The food is solid and fairly authentic. Not the best Mexican food you will ever have the pleasure to indulge in, but merits occasional visits. Good service with a very large menu of diverse selections. The salsa is very nice although a pinch salty. The portions are very satisfying and the prices are good so the value is definitely a plus. I read some sketchy reviews about cleanliness but honestly I thought it was more than clean so they must have stepped up their game in the sanitization department.

We've been eating here for years. It is simply, in my opinion, the best Mexican restaurant in the area. From the freshly-made chips and salsa to the authentic main dishes, it satisfies our cravings for Mexican every time. We lived in Alabama for 10 years, and this restaurant reminds us of the local Mexican restaurants we would patronize there. They do not serve alcohol, but I believe you can byob (call ahead to make sure). They have the regular range of sodas and iced tea, but also offer bottled Mexican sodas. (I usually get the lemonade.) We have always received great service here. I recommend Los Aztecas to my friends, when they are looking for a good Mexican restaurant.

You're in Pottstown and want something a little ethnic. Los Aztecas will fit the bill but may not leave you completely satisfied. I have visited the restaurant many times over the years. Many reviewers write that it's the best in Pottstown or the area. Well, it really is the only choice when you're looking for somewhat authentic Mexican. The restaurant is located in a dying strip mall. It is shared with a Chinese buffet (ewww), a pawn shop, a small grocery store and a Walmart among other shops. The inside of the restaurant needs some serious redecorating and cleaning. If you've ever watched "Restaurant Impossible", Los Aztecas could use Robert Irvines 2-Day makeover. It's the detail cleaning that could really make this small place shine. As well as repairing torn fabrics and a good paint job. My service has always been great. This is a family run restaurant and they are very friendly and welcoming. Although they always seem to have a few booths occupied with the kids doing homework or watching the one TV (which is always on a spanish speaking channel). For the service, glasses stay full, food is delivered quickly and accurately. I think the menu prices are a tad high, but the portions make up for that, if you like taking leftovers home. And in my opinion, there are few leftovers that sustain a night in the fridge better than Mexican. As for the food itself, Los Aztecas is mostly good. The menu is way too large however. How many ways can you present beef, chicken, green chilles and salsa differently? Yet, it is always consistent. I usually get the chicken chimichanga's with rice and beans. The dinner portion is huge and I always have lunch for the next day when I leave. The flavors, as I said, are good, but never great. Many of the dishes seem to share a flat flavoring where I can't really tell the difference. I add a little hot sauce or jalapeno's for some spice and heat to liven the dish up, but's thats my taste. The salsa and chips they serve as a freebie app, is just okay. The salsa is a little too thin and the flavor is very mild. I would like to see an offering for something thicker and spicier. My 2 Star rating represents an okay meal, but yes, there are way better Mexican restaurants I've been to. But this is Pottstown (or as I like to say Potts-Vegas). Choice isn't really an option (please don't consider Taco Bell and option... that place is rancid). IF YOU ENJOYED MY REVIEW, PLEASE RATE IT AND SEND ME A COMMENT!

My son and I love going here for authentic, cheap and plentiful Mexican food. You will not leave here hungry!!!

The food here is fine. There aren't a lot of authentic Mexican restaurants in the area, so there aren't many better options near Pottstown.

After a rough day we climbed in the car with our 5 year old and some ice cold beers and headed off to Pottstown after hearing good recommendations about Los Aztecas. I ordered the Enchiladas Aztecas and loved it! Four Chicken Enchiladas served with refried beans, green sauce, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, & avocado. The chicken was moist and flavorful and the dish overall was so fresh, as opposed o red sauce enchiladas. Hubs had a combo and said his was delicious. Even the kids menu is great for only $5.50. We will definitely be going back!

I'm an idiot. After reading the reviews I decided there was no way I was going here. But then my mother's friend said it's great. UGH. Should have listened to the fellow Yelpers. Service is lovely. Cleanliness, eh. Food- not good. Chips were awful, fajitas were not good, whatever my family ate, wasn't that good. Now in Pottstown's defense- not a lot to choose from. If you're craving Mexican Pottstown- take the drive to Reading, it appears there are several great places to go there.

Always a great experience. The chips and salsa are great and the meals are delicious. Only down side is that the wait staff is usually slammed with how busy it is.

My kids love this restaurant because of the decor. I like the waitstaff, always so friendly. The portions are large. The fajitas are pretty good. We always order extra guacamole, it goes fast.

The food is very good and pretty authentic, from what I can tell. It comes in large portions and is definitely filling. It is a BYOB place with a corking fee, for those of you who want alcohol with your dinner. The decor is really great! It definitely completes your dining experience. I've never had issues with cleanliness that some of the other reviews have mentioned so either that wasn't a real issue or they've stepped up their routine.

If you are visiting the outlet mall or in the general area for another reason and craving Mexican food, this place hit the spot. Pros - Generous portions! - Guacamole: Amazing!! It did NOT have lime in it, and you could tell it was freshly made then salted. This is difficult to find as a lot of places add lime, which is not needed when you make guac fresh, so that was a good sign. They also gave a generous portion with our meals versus the usual tablespoon you get elsewhere. - Food: Refried beans, rice, tamales, beef, taquitos, and fajitas were great!! Everything had strong flavors. The chips were great as well, not too thin nor too thick! Parking is ample being in a strip mall, and the decor was the most vibrant I've ever seen at a casual Mexican restaurant. Very colorful! Cons - The service was slow even though there was only one other table occupied when we were there. We even had to wait awhile after walking in to flag someone for seating. I was going to add a side of queso to my meal after it came, but they brought out the food, quickly left, then we were halfway done by the time we saw anyone again. There was no one in sight most of the time. Good thing our orders were done correctly to avoid a long wait time otherwise! - Women's bathroom: The soap dispenser refill was sitting on the toilet with no way to try and use it even though the wall dispenser was still up, and there were no paper towels. Luckily I had brought my hand sanitizer, but it made you wonder about the sterile quality of anything and the staff's hands...hopefully they used the kitchen sink! - The shredded chicken they used in the taquitos and on their "nachos" chips is seasoned differently from anything I've ever had, and I didn't like it. I also wasn't crazy about the salsa as it left a weird aftertaste (I'm a salsa fanatic). If we are in the area again, we would go back as we crave Mexican and Tex-Mex regularly, but it's hard to find. We just wouldn't drive 45 minutes to visit it either. Try it once and see!

Just lost a long time customer. I have been eating at Los Aztecas for the past ten years - on average once every two months. Before Pottstown had many dining alternatives, my husband and I could get a decent meal here. After being a faithful, reliable customer for over a decade, they have finally lost me. Tonight I pulled up their website. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the website has been redone. They are offering new specials, incentives, a mailing list, etc. One of their specials is a 2 for $20 menu. This special includes an appetizer and two entrees selected from a limited menu. Unlike some of their other promotions (i.e. coupons), there are no restrictions listed on the 2 for $20. I called the restaurant and placed an order for pickup. I told the man who answered that I wanted to order from the 2 for $20 menu. His first question to me was "Which appetizer would you like?" His second question was "Which two entrees would you like?" There was clearly no confusion on the fact that I was ordering the 2 for $20 special. After a few minute wait, my husband went to pick up our order. When he got home, I unpacked the bag and the receipt said "Pretip amount: $33"! Now clearly this isn't right - a $13 overcharge. I know - my husband should have caught it at the counter, but he didn't know. I placed the order and I really didn't think it would be an issue. My nice husband was just trying to help out by picking up the order I had placed, while I got the table set for dinner. He immediately called the restaurant to see if they could refund the money over the phone or if they needed him to come up with our credit card to issue the refund. Frankly, they don't care and they aren't issuing a refund. The woman who answered said "We don't offer that special on take out". When my husband reiterated that the man who took our order didn't have an issue with it and didn't say that it was a restriction, she just repeated the fact that they wouldn't honor the price. This is a bad time for Los Aztecas to begin treating customers this way. Pottstown is finely getting some restaurant options - and more are (thankfully) coming soon. I can't wait! We've been meaning to try Henry's Cafe. The next time we want Mexican, well, it has been a year since I visited Juan Carlos on High Street. Time to give someone else a try. It will be a very, very, very long time before Los Aztecas gets more money from me.

Used to be one of my favorites til we had roaches in our food and on the table! Waiter simply brushed the roaches onto the floor stepped on them and told us there was no more problem !

Food is pretty good. I had the veggie fajitas, they were not blow my mind awesome, but I enjoyed them. I have been here 2 or 3 times, each time get the veggie fajitas, each time they have been fresh cut and come out on a sizzle plate and are very tasty. The food is on the mild side, but that is why they have a variety of hot sauces at the table, not everyone likes spicy foods! The people that I went with each time enjoyed their meal. I really don't care how authentic it is. This is pennsylvania, deal with it! It tastes good, it comes out in good time, and the staff is attentive. 5 stars.

Gross tasting, horrible customer service, advertised price online is not accurate, ol el paso and taco bell out ranks them.

Went here a few months ago with a friend, since it's pretty much the only Mexican restaurant around. We heard it was BYO, so we picked up some straw-ber-ritas and went inside. It is in a strip mall, so I wasn't expecting much, but the decor leaves a bit to be desired. We were seated by a young child (7 or 8) and given menus, chips, and salsa. The salsa tasted like jarred tomato sauce. Yikes. After much debate (and waiting), we placed our orders, and then waited. And waited some more. When the food came out, it smelled delicious but there was no presentation, so it didn't look very appetizing. In the end, the food wasn't average, but it wasn't terrible either (I mean, we didn't get sick... What kind of defense is that?). The price was reasonable, but we don't be back.

Love this place! It is very theme oriented! It's a BYOB which is great. Every time I'm in here, it's busy. The staff is quick, friendly and attentive. I'm always approached at our table by the manager asking if we were satisfied. The food it's always great!

  • Adam S.

Tucked away in a strip mall, this place is definitely easy to overlook. But you shouldn't; the food is really really good. The tamales are delicious, and the plates are HUGE...you'll have enough food for 2 meals at least. Prices are reasonable, and fresh hot(HOT!!!) chips and salsa before every meal!

I eat here at least once a month. Love the chips and salsa, which are included at no additional cost when eating in. Great loco dip. Decent guacamole. Terrific enchiladas. I love their enchilada sauce. I'm not a fan of their shredded beef or chicken in the various dishes because they put bell peppers in them. If you like bell peppers, you may like the flavor that adds. Just makes everything taste like a fajita to me. Great re-fried beans. I like that they use Mexican cheese (guessing that it is queso blanco) since it melts well and is not too greasy. I have been to Mexico several times and they do not use cheddar cheese on their food. Actually, in Mexico, they do not use too much dairy at all. Well seasoned food. Not too bland nor too spicy, but I'm sure that you could add some hot sauce. Has more flavor than the chain Mexican restaurants, which in my opinion usually have bland food. Large portions for the prices. I always leave stuffed. Nice fast and friendly service. A young boy may ring you out, but he provides better service than most teenagers and even adults. Love that it is a family run business. Around here we usually just get corporate chains. Cute booths and atmosphere. They recently replaced the chairs at the tables, so they are more comfortable now, but I still prefer a booth for the privacy. Best Mexican food in the Pottstown area.

We just moved to the area and were so thrilled to find this gem of a Mexican restaurant hidden in, as others have said, a deceivingly crappy strip mall complete with Wal-mart and pawn store. However, the menu looked good so we took a chance and were so happy to have done so: the (free) salsa and chips which we dug into on the ride home (we did takeout) were absolutely amazing...addictive! We ordered basic the first time around: taco salad, chili rellenos, burrito - all were exceptionally created with flavorful ingredients and put together beautifully. We have ordered again since our first experience and have not been letdown. Highly recommended!

I have definitely had better. My carnitas was very good but the burrito/taco platter that my partner had was pretty bad and the sopapilles was fried way too long. The staff was attentive but the kitchen needs to be overhauled.

After some cravings for Mexican food and the lazyness of not going all the way to Philadelphia, I've decided to try this restaurant that it is in the Walmart plaza close to home... bad decision. The menu is very poor and the food doesn't have flavour at all. It is just like putting latin ingredients together and just see what happens. The service is very friendly and respectful, but no way we can call it a "Mexican Restaurant". There is nothing authentic in it. The only good... the chips and salsa. Plop!!!

Hidden within the Wal Mart shopping center in Pottstown... hidden behind Red Lobster, Arby's and Wendy's you will find top notch Mexican food -- right here in Pottstown! If you didn't know it was there, you might never see it. The restaurant is nestled smack in the middle of a strip mall and is barely noticeable. We have been here twice so far and will be back many more times. The service is always fast and very friendly, you'll never want for a refill. The chips and salsa they bring out to the table at the beginning of your meal are a delight. Warm, crispy chips are complimented by a flavorful picante style salsa that they will refill for you at your request. We have sampled their enchiladas, burritos, hard and soft tacos and we haven't been disappointed yet! If you are looking for reasonably authentic mexican food at a reasonable cost and don't want to have to drive to Philly -- Los Aztecas is your destination!

Love it. My wife who is from El Paso Tx. says this is the closest to the real deal. The food has as always been fresh and delicious. The service is always friendly. It helps when your wife is fluent in Spanish.

Great food. We always enjoy our meals. Great service. Come every few months for past 5 years. Have only gotten better. Appearance of the area right when you walk in does need a makeover but dont let it fool you. Good stuff inside. Good prices too.

Pottstown has never really been renown for its fine eating establishments. Almost every restaurant I spotted was a chain or plain frightening. Luckily for Los Aztecas, this means I'm grading them on a curve. Anywhere else, and I'd go with two stars. The menu is actually quite varied, and the many vegetarian combinations (around $8-$10) are appreciated. Service is polite, although our server brought out the wrong entree and we were almost through with the first one when the correct one came out. The food is plentiful, but incredibly bland and lacking in complexity. The cheese quesadilla is a white flour tortilla folded in half and filled with white cheese and nothing else. Keep working at it Pottstown!

I have been to Los Aztecas on multiple occasions. Initially I was not a fan of the Mexican restaurant. However, the last several times I went, I ordered Pollo Mole, which is not on the menu. This was a mole that rivals any mole I have had in recent years. In addition to the outstanding mole, I love the chips and salsa that are served prior to every meal. Fresh hot chips, with some really tasty tomato based salsa. As you have heard in other reviews, it is a BYOB place. We stopped off at a state store and picked up a bottle of pre-maid Margarita cocktails. Upon seeing our margarita mix, the waiter brought us two glasses with ice and salted rims..awesome. It may not be the best Mexican restaurant, and I probably would not travel a great distance to go here. But if you find yourself in the Pottstown, PA area and you want some Mexican cuisine, this will do just fine. Additionally, since it is a BYOB restaurant, you don't find yourself spending huge sums on the house margaritas. My wife and I managed to dine on less than $50 for two meals, and an appetizer. We had so much food left over that we were able to make two additional meals out of left overs..Pollo Mole omelets are delicious for breakfast.

Very sad. When this place first opened, it was fabulous. We ate there a lot. over the years, as the menu changed, the food became more processed and generic. Fresh salsa turned into tomato puree. Things do not taste bright and fresh anymore. It is a real shame, but we will be going elsewhere from now on.

  • Sarah D.

The decor in this place is off-putting and could use a good cleaning. The wait staff came over quickly to add our tequila into their margarita mix and the food came out in record time. That being said, the margarita mix was disgusting. It was a radioactive, Mountain Dew yellow and tasted like tangy chemicals. We couldn't even drink it, which is unheard of. What a waste of good tequila! The food was average. I've had better, I've had worse. Burritos are served platter style as opposed to wrapped up in a tortilla. Enchiladas tasted like they were filled with mozzarella cheese and topped with a salty marinara sauce. Guacamole was a glue-like consistency but ultimately didn't taste awful. Pico de gallo was good though. The margarita mix, side of guacamole and two entrees came to $40 which seemed high for what we received. Unfortunately we won't be going back.

Horrible food. I'm from Southern California and I know good Mexican food and this place does not have it. My enchiladas tasted like they had spaghetti sauce on them. I do not recommend this place at all.

This is a decent Tex-Mex restaurant. I lived in Dallas a few years and learned to love Tex-Mex...missed it when I moved back until I found this place. The food is fresh and tasty. Service is fine. My favorite is Los Amigos. BYOTequila and they will make you a margarita! If you are looking for good Tex-Mex this is the place!

Went here for dinner on a Friday night when we just didn't feel like standing in line at the local steakhouse. We were seated immediately & given fresh chips & salsa that were so good. The menu is extensive - it was hard to make a choice about what to have. Our meals were delicious & huge portions - we both took some home. Loved the atmosphere, that its family run & a great place for authentic Mexican. Will definitely be going back.

Not good. I find it hard to believe that anyone could give this place a good review based on the food. If I wanted to microwave my dinner I would have stayed at home. Bland! The rice looked like it was cooked a week ago. I will never go back and warn others to stay away.

I'd never been to Pottstown before but I was there with my daughter and her friends and Mexican seemed to be the only food they all could agree on. This particular establishment had good reviews compared to the other south-of-the-border spots in this suburb so I took the plunge, not really expecting much. Just some quick highlights: * Very good service * No alcohol - probably just as well. * Prompt with the preliminary chips and salsa. * LOTS of families there - a good thing! * Pricing was very reasonable * Quantity of food was good. Way too much for my 'guests', but that's their problem. * Good selection of Mexican sodas. I don't see the appeal but the girls loved them. * The chicken chimichangas I ordered were good. The fried ones weren't as crispy as I'd like but it tasted good & hot. * The fried ice cream was interesting, particularly the menu description where the dish was described as being 'topped with crunchy stuff'. The only bad thing I can point out was that the beef seemed to be substandard. I didn't have any but several of the girls felt it was 'bad'. It definitely was grey and unappealing but, 24 hours later, I can say that no ill effects were reported. All in all, I'd give this four stars based on my own experience, the girls felt it was worth three.

    (4)
  • Jim E.

Mixed feelings about Los Aztecas. This last time the chimichangas were excellent and there was more than enough. But our experience in an earlier visit parallels some of the earlier reviews - food was bland, not vibrant, and the cheese was American not Mexican. I don't understand all the raves about this place, other than many of our friends who do like this place are definitely NOT into livelier (spicier) food as we are. I would return with friends for the company, but not on our own.

Good portion size and very falvorful. Well seasoned without being over the top in any one particlular spice. Service was sporadic, quick at first, with drinks, food order and chips, but after the food came out, they disappeared, so dont drop a utensil! For the price and quality of the food though, I will defintely go back again!

On Friday night we had a hankering for some Mexican grub. Haven't been back to this joint in awhile so we decided this was were we were getting it on. This time, I ordered the enchilada's Aztecas based on our servers suggestion. It's 4 chicken enchiladas topped with refried beans, green chili sauce, sour cream, lettuce, tomato and avocado. Never had a green chili sauce so I was excited to give it a whirl. 10 min or so after I ordered, bam it was on the table. These guys and gals are super quick with the food. Let me tell you, this dish was absolutely outstanding. The chicken was fresh and juicy, the toppings also extremely fresh and flavorful. I couldn't believe that I ate the entire plate. It was that good. To be honest, after only 2 enchiladas I was satisfied, but it was to damn tasty that I couldn't stop. I felt like a glutton, but I don't care. Diet be damned!! If, for some strange reason, you are ever in the Pottstown area and you're looking for some good quick grub, check this place out.

My favorite Mexican restaurant and I've been to many! They have the best free chips and salsa, along with a big and diverse menu. Service is generally fast but it is BYOB so you have to bring alcohol if so desired. Their lunch specials are really reasonable too.

  • Scott S.

Los Aztecas is one of those strip mall restaurants whose cuisine and service deserve a better venue: Its pawn shop and a Chinese buffet neighbors belie the savory, pungent, and generously portioned Mexican cuisine and family feel you'll find inside. (I had the chicken in molé sauce with Mexican rice.) Plus, the pricing is reasonable. Most distinctly, it's a very easy place to get to know the waitstaff -- and as a result, a great place to practice your Spanish.

Here in Pottstown, there seem to be a fair amount of Mexicans. And I think that perhaps each and every one of them goes for lunch at Los Aztecas. That in itself should be enough to lure anyone looking for the real deal. Nothing fancy, just very good, authentic Mexican food. It's not a bad looking place. Sometimes, if it gets really crowded and the take out business is also heavy, the service can get a bit slow. Add that to the list of reasons to try this place.

We have been frequenting Los Aztecas now for three years. We typically will go there at least once a month. Their food is wonderful and so very reasonable. The staff is friendly and servers always check back in with you to see what you need. AND . . . . it is a BYOB - which means you can bring along a great bottle of Tempranillo Red to go with your dinner. Yum. The atmosphere is casual and upbeat. They have piped in Mexican music which I always groove to after the second glass of Tempranillo : ) As soon as you are seated they bring out warm, crisp and flavorful tortilla chips with their own salsa- I always use to ask for the salsa caliente . . . now when they see me they bring it right out : ) The Chicken Fajita is incredible- they make it a little extra spicy for me when I request it - delicious, tender pieces of seasoned chicken with grilled onion, red and green pepper and a little bit of roma tomato. The portion is huge - it's served with warmed tortillas, a side dish of rice and refried beans AND a side dish of fresh pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream. The chicken and veggie portion is served on a hot skillet with a little chili pepper oven mit covering the handle - very cute! The other dish I can highly recommend is the Shrimp Quesadilla. They actually use grilled jumbo shrimp - plump and yummy. My hubby gets that religiously - in fact he often has fantasies about this dish - calling me in the middle of the day with his sexy voice whispering - Los Aztecas tonight . . . Shrimp Quesadilla . . . . . who could resist! There's never been a downside to this place. Glad to have them in the vicinity :)

Los Aztecas is by far the tastiest place in the Pottstown area to get Mexican food. I've ordered pick-up there a substantial number of times, but have only eaten there once and the restaurant service was great, even though it was very busy. (It always seems to be packed on Fridays and Saturdays, which are the days that I generally do take-out.) Meals are reasonably priced, and you get a LOT of food, two meals worth with each dinner dish. The restaurant has a very casual atmosphere. You probably wouldn't want to wear anything fancier than jeans anyway when keeping in mind how messy Mexican can be. Now I am giving this place 3 stars instead of 4, not because of the quality of food, but because of how many times they've screwed up my pick-up order!! Since I discovered this place about a year and a half ago, they have screwed up my order four times, which is about a third of the time I've done pick-up with Los Aztecas. I normally get chicken fajitas (which I definitely recommend ordering while dining at the restaurant if you are a fajita lover!) TWICE they forgot to add the tortillas and therefore messed up the fajita dish alone. (They've made mistakes two other times on different meals.) I should've learned my lesson the first time, and checked through my bags more thoroughly the next time around, but I normally order out with friends or family and there is a lot to go through, especially since three containers can make up just one meal. Like I said, the place is normally packed, and I don't want to be annoying to the people waiting behind me (a line that sometimes nearly goes out the door). I live about 15 minutes away each way, so normally I wouldn't bother with driving an additional 30 minutes for their screw-up. But the last time they messed up my fajita order I was so mad that I did just that. I called ahead on the phone to explain what happened, and they said I could come right away to get the tortillas and a refund. So I got there and said I could have either the tortillas OR the refund.... Um, yeah right, mi amigo. I got both, but only after arguing with the manager. So with that said, if you're in the mood for Mexican, you're much better off dining at Los Aztecas. If you do take-out, do so at your own risk of disappointment and aggravation!

I stopped in here for the first time last week. There was a gentleman that was quick to greet me, but I asked for the take out menu. There were no customers in the restaurant and now I know why! The gentleman left to go in the back. I stood at the counter for over 5 minutes waiting for service. The was a female server sitting at the table directly across from the register. She was too busy playing with her phone to even acknowledge me or get up from the table!! I chose not to get anyone else's attention as I really didn't feel like a valued or wanted customer. I've never tried the food here, but I will stick with Mesa Grille in Wayne or On The Border in Exton as I've had great service at both of those Mexican restaurants. Los Aztecas may or may not have good food, but if they want customers they need to overhaul their current wait staff and get some quality workers who appreciate having a job! I will not be back to spend my hard earned money here!

Quaint place tucked away in a shopping plaza. Food tasted great and was delivered nice and hot. It's clean and is a great place to go to get away from the chain restaurants. Lots of activity on a Friday night, but we were seated quickly. Give this place a shot if you're in the area.

Fair Mexican fare at decent prices! There is NOTHING quite like calling a restaurant on Mother's Day at 1:00 PM and asking if they can accommodate 22 people in 20 minutes....that's not only what we did, but the friendly endearing staff at Los Aztecas seated us, stuffed us and sundaed the moms (complimentary sundaes for the moms)! On the way into this nifty little YELP find we passed Friendly's Restaurant which is across the street from the strip center Los Aztecas is in and they were lined up out the door waiting for seating. The chips were excellent and the dishes were delicious. One of my pet peeves is being charged for minor side dishes like pickled jalapenos, but we have found a nice little spot that we will visit when in the area.

The food was pretty good here. I ordered take out, so it's probably even better fresh. My problem with the place was the cleanliness and service. First impression when I walked in was a girl that was not happy that I came in, because then she had to actually work. The entrance was pretty cluttered with several vases full of dead flowers. Being new to the place, I took a few minutes to look through the menu. The hostess just starred at me until I decided, and any questions that I asked, she didn't seem to know the answers or didn't want to answer them. She was not familiar with the menu, as I had to show her what I was ordering. Then she told me it would take 15 mins, so I left for a little bit. When I came back 20 mins later, the nice server asked me what kind of meat I wanted on my order, which I had previous told the hostess. Then I had to wait there an additional 10 mins for them to cook my food. I will probably try it again sometime, but will sit down to eat as I said the food was pretty good and the server was nice.

Good Mexican food in a random Pennsylvania suburb. Who would've guessed? If you think Taco Bell is Mexican, than this is not the place for you. Los Aztecas serves up delicious and reasonably authentic Mexican food at extremely reasonable prices. Located in a strip-mall, between a chinese buffet and a pawn shop, it'd be easy to pass them by, but what a mistake you'd be making. Just writing this review makes me hanker for their choripollo or a chili relleno.

This is as good as it gets in regards to Mexican food. The service is generally fast and the wait staff is always courteous. I've eaten here at least 30 to 40 times over the last four years. It is by far one of my favorite places to eat for lunch. Every patron gets chips and salsa to start most of the time before you even get your drink order taken. The lunch fajitas are excellent and I would highly recommend them if you can't decide on anything else. Of course the fried ice cream is an awesome treat if you have room after eating the generous portions for dinner. Considering the fact that this is located in a shopping plaza (aka strip mall) it is a really pleasant suprise to find such an excellent place to eat. Hope you enjoy!

I should have listened to my gut when I read Ronnie M's review, being from Cali myself, I know good Mexican food and I am always on a fruitless search for good Mexican food in Pennsylvania. I was hoping he was just being too critical, but sad to say he wasn't. This place disappointed beyond belief. When we walked in we were "greeted" by an unfriendly woman who barely gave a quarter of a smile. Once seated, the place reminded me of a pretty authentic Mexican hole in the wall, which is not a bad thing, as long as the food matches up. Our server did come over promptly with chips and salsa and a smile, woohoo! score for the smile and that is where the 1 star comes from. I ordered one of the various combo plates on the menu to get a variety of tastes in case I finally found my Mexican spot. I got the Chile Rellano, beef burrito and chalupa. All of the sauces were pretty much the same and very bland, the chile rellano was the best thing on the plate and that isn't saying much, but it wasn't too bad, the burrito was a soggy flour tortilla filled with low quality bland ground beef and topped with bland sauce, the chalupa was basically a flat corn tortilla shell topped with refried beans, lettuce, cheap cheese and that awful beef. My dining partners food was basically the same thing...all the same sauces and cheeses just rolled up in different ways...very unoriginal and tasteless, I do feel bad for people who actually think this is good Mexican food, take a trip to Southern California and try any hole in the wall and you will have a meal far superior to this for about half the price. Oh by the way, for 2 horrible meals and some Mexican sodas the meal came to almost $27.00, far from a good value in my opinion, seriously taco bell would have been a better choice.

The food was NOT hot (warmish) even at the time we order, I had speciifically requested that I like my food HOT as in temperature. Disappointing... The food was not very cheesy or cooked under a broiler like most places do. The food was bland, not seasoned/spiced. However the warm chips and salsa were the good...like the best part, other than being a byob establishment. Sorry, will not return.

Chips and salsa upon arrival. Awesome Horchata, great seafood, vegetarian, and meat dishes. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Food is wonderful, always enough to take home and have leftovers for another meal! Highly recommend! Love their salsa also!

I went here for lunch today and was thoroughly impressed. If you like taco bell, don't bother. If you wish to have authentic and professionally prepared mexican dishes and you're in pottstown, you should go here. I like that the place is B.Y.O.B. and did I mention the food?

Best mexican food around! A bit of a drive from Phoenixville but well worth it. We've been pleased with the service and they serve huge portions at a great price. Make sure you try the Orchada drink and the Guadalajara is a feast!

Being from the Southwest, I always yearn for decent Mexican food in Pennsylvania Dutch country. I figured I would never be able to find anything good, until Los Aztecas opened in Pottstown. Los Aztecas filled my aching heart with fabulously fresh Tex-mex. The waitstaff is attentive, quick, and funny (if you know a bit of Spanish). Always ask if you have a question about a plate, they're more than happy to explain it. If you're in a hurry, don't worry, your food will get to you very quickly. The kitchen gets meals out to the waitstaff rapidly and in large portions. I love the fresh chips and salsa, the chimichangas, and the tamales. I love that they have tasty Jumex available to have with your meal, it makes for a nice alternative to soda. Pricing is decent, and they have takeout, which is a nice way to feed the family at home.

We go here on a weekly basis. Staff knows us by name and usually the same order all the time. Have tried all different things ona their expansive menu but always love the fajitas cazuelada. Perfect. If go there on cinco de mayo they give you free cervesa or margaritas. Best Mexican food in the area and beyond. Homemade salsa. Great.

People who think this place is good have never tasted anything better. I was recently in Pottstown and ate here. Granted this was a one time only but good heavens the food tasted like something from the alley. And on top of that it was expensive. Taco Bell and this place, same difference except one will cost more. Four of us ate there and all four of us hated it. I would like for these people to feel ashamed of the stuff they serve. If I were Mexican I would sure try harder to impress the clients so they could see that Mexicans do eat tasty food. You will not find it here unfortunately and that leaves Pottstown seriouisly deprived. I would recommend that unless you feel like wasting money buy a pizza.

Good, authentic, Mexican food. In Pottstown. No, I'm not kidding. I have not sampled their entire menu, but their enchiladas... to me, the test of a good Mexican place... are fantastic. And you will not leave there hungry.

Omg I couldn't even finish that's how bad it was! this is NOT authentic...if you like this crap then you have NO clue what Mexican food should taste like! It's not even tex mex...which there is difference between Mexican and tex-mex...they do not use the proper cheese, or the correct cuts of beef..GROSS....and over priced....these people are laughing all the way to the bank selling knockoff food at more then average prices

Here is the problem with this place, while you are eating it seems great. The food comes superfast and its affordable. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and the food must be premade and quickly heated for it to come out to the table in less than 5 minutes. I have had so many people eat there and just get sick. I have declined a few dinner inviations as soon as people suggest this place.

Food came out in large portions and was all hot and filling. It's nothing to really go out of your way for but it's good Mexican food for what it is and far better than heading to Applebees or something. But come for the decor. Solid food for the area it is in and the decor is pretty interesting. It's very.... "tourist Aztec" to say the least, complete with big wooden carved booths and garish paintings. Would have liked a souvenir Macuahuitl to take home with me.

Tucked away in a strip mall, this place is definitely easy to overlook. But you shouldn't; the food is really really good.

Great food. We always enjoy our meals. Great service. Come every few months for past 5 years. Have only gotten better. Appearance of the area right when you walk in does need a makeover but dont let it fool you. Good stuff inside. Good prices too.

5 stars.

My favorite Mexican restaurant and I've been to many! They have the best free chips and salsa, along with a big and diverse menu. Service is generally fast but it is BYOB so you have to bring alcohol if so desired. Their lunch specials are really reasonable too.

Quaint place tucked away in a shopping plaza. Food tasted great and was delivered nice and hot. It's clean and is a great place to go to get away from the chain restaurants. Lots of activity on a Friday night, but we were seated quickly. Give this place a shot if you're in the area.

I went here for lunch today and was thoroughly impressed. If you like taco bell, don't bother. If you wish to have authentic and professionally prepared mexican dishes and you're in pottstown, you should go here. I like that the place is B.Y.O.B. and did I mention the food?

We are Arizonians born and raised...the food at this restaurant was absolutely disgusting!

When I'm in Pottstown, I try to found a way to eat here. It is a small store with great art. The portions are big and the food never disappoints. The latest time the service was a touch slow and felt a little awkward. I love it that it's authentic. Definitely worth a try!

5 stars.

Great food. We always enjoy our meals. Great service. Come every few months for past 5 years. Have only gotten better. Appearance of the area right when you walk in does need a makeover but dont let it fool you. Good stuff inside. Good prices too.

Great.

Plop!!!

  • Ashley H.

The food is decent, better than expected based on location and better than Chili's down the street.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
