A few years ago this wasn't a bad place to eat. Used to get meat loaf dinners, stuffed chicken breast, chicken wings on wing night... Not the situation anymore. Last few meals there were terrible and the service might be worse. Portions are probably half the size; might be a good thing due to how bad the food tastes now. The last couple waitresses were so rude it felt like we were bothering them by being there and actually ordering. They almost threw the plates at us. Good luck getting a refill of coffee! It's sad. I like to support small businesses, but we won't go back to this place.

Stopped here Memorial Day weekend after spending the day at Mcconnell's Mill. They reopened 3 weeks earlier after a fire in December. The place is quaint and the wait staff is very friendly. The menu had lots of options but we both decided the BBQ chicken special. It came with baked beans and potato salad. I opted to substitute a veggie for the potato salad being lactose intolerant. Our waitress found out there was butter in the veggie side dish so the cook made me steamed green beans. The chicken was a half chicken and cooked perfectly. It was a hearty portion. We saw some good looking dishes being served around us. We will definitely stop back the next time we are in the area.

After an afternoon hiking McConnells Mill Park, we found this as one of the few area restaurants. I'm not sure whether or not we found the best local one, but it definitely could improve the food. We had both the Philly cheesesteak and the Reuben. The philly cheesesteak was pretty pitiful. The roll itself was the tastiest part, but was oversized for the ingredients. The entire sandwich was microwaved with the (4) steak-umms being the base. The onions were way too strong and too plentiful, and it overpowered the sandwich. There wasn't enough real meat and it was sad. The melted cheese overtop almost fooled me initially into thinking it would be a decent sandwich. It was sad. The sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly and were delicious!! The Reuben was served with dry insulated pieces of corn beef and was pretty flat. No dressing on the Reuben? Even after ordering extra dressing, this sandwich would not be resuscitated. The kids meals were equally dreadful, but restaurants often cheap out on those, and could have almost been excusable if everything else was fine. The service was very friendly and competent, including the younger guy who greeted us as we sat down, and the young girl who was the waitress. No complaints there at all. They both moved with purpose and kept up in a busy restaurant. I looked at the food as I sat down on other tables, and it passed the sight test, so maybe other dishes are more successful. The prices were very reasonable but almost seem guilt-laden as if you had paid $3.00 more per item, you'd really feel like you were taken to the cleaners. The floor feels like not enough joists were laid down and that plywood is spanning 24" or longer, because the entire floor bounces when people walk by your table. I had higher hopes for this place, but the food needs a lot of work.

Just wow... This is the closest restaurant to my house, so I really wanted to like this place. I gave them five tries. I tried breakfast (x2), lunch (x2), and dinner (x1). But now I'm done. Breakfasts were always cooked ok, but one in the orders will be wrong, and don't expect a refill unless you get so frustrated you get up and get it today's Lunches... Worse... Who knew a roast beef sandwich has turkey on it. Again, BYOB, cause you'll get a refill whenever the waitress feels like it. So far, these things have been pair for rural western pa. Frustrating but not anything to keep you away for good. Till dinner... Expect to hear, "we are out of that" at least once (we heard it four times before settling on a main course) side salads afford you one slice of tomato, one slice of radish, and slice of cucumber, and as much day old iceberg lettuce and Sysco dressing as you can shove in your face. Next came the meal... You guessed it, underwhelming, but that's no surprise here. We didn't get food poisoning so I won't dwell on those details. (Surprising with no gloves or hair nets worn by the cooks.) The final act was the best. They close at 8pm on the night we ate there. At 7:15 they began sweeping the floor, at 7:20 they killed the music, at 7:30 the cooks and waitresses stared very obviously out the kitchen window at the 4 couples left eating. Don't bother calling to complain, the owner showed up at 7:35 and killed what was left of the coffee. At 7:38 they turned away two couples saying, "the grill is closed, we only have soup and pie" while the couples discussed if that was enough options, the staff locked the doors and turned off the exterior lights, leaving these folks literally in the dark and my pregnant wife and I to walk through the gravel parking lot in the dark. In leu of retribution, legal action, or reporting this establishment to the BBB (all of which will accomplish nothing) I'll settle for warning YOU! If you ignore this review, allow me to be the first to say, "I told you so!". Consider yourself warned.

Delicious! We stopped by for the first time today while traveling between cities, and we'll go back again if get the chance. I had the meatloaf with two sides (broccoli and apple sauce) and my husband had the pork chops, also with two sides (cottage cheese and apple sauce). Both entrees were excellent and the sides were tasty as well. The four star rating is because the restaurant was out of both salad and cole slaw. I have never had a restaurant tell me they were out of salad, and since other reviews also mentioned this problem, it seems like poor planning.

My 5 buddies and I stopped in for breakfast on route from Pittsburg to Toronto. Their blueberry pancakes were outstanding. They came with eggs and bacon as part of their breakfast special. All of us were especially pleased with our meals and the delightful service. Portions were quite large and tasty and prices were inexpensive for the area. The only short coming was no grits for 6 ole southern boys, but they did have sweet tea. A delightful experience.

We always stop here on our way to Volant. The meals are always excellent and cheaply priced. I've never had a bad meal here ever and I always recommend this place to people traveling this way. The BLT is very good and I always get it when I come here. The restaurant is very clean and they have new bathrooms.

If Cracker Barrel was just a locally owned place, it'd be Brown's Country Kitchen That's not necessarily a bad thing. My girlfriends and I stopped in here after doing some hiking. I opted for my usual BLT. I must confess that I am a BLT junkie and I judge a place by how well it does its BLTs. O' but I was very pleased with this one. Crisp toast, bacon cooked just right, flavorful lettuce and tomato--perfecto! Good coffee here too. We topped off our lunches by splitting a slice of carrot cake and an order of Em's Special: Dutch apple pie, topped with vanilla ice cream & hot caramel topping. ooh baby, was that ever decadent. And it certainly bumped up my rating from three to four stars. And that's one of the many great things about being a chick--it's socially acceptable to share desserts. And hey, we had been hiking for several miles that morning. So we quickly metabolized those desserts, right?

Cozy restaurant with good service and very reasonably priced food. Stopped here for lunch with co-worker and we both had sandwiches with coffee and it was less then $15. If you're in the Portersville area this is a must visit.

If you were looking for that country hospitality this is NOT the place! It took 15 minutes just to get seated by a hostess that clearly did not care. When we finally got a waitress she was rude. We order our food and a half hour after another table with 6 people came in sat right away ordered and finished their food before we even got our food! We end up leaving after an hour wait and it didn't seem to even matter to them. Completely ruined our appetite and experience! They don't deserve even 1 star Terrible & Rude!

The food here ranges from sub-par to very good and the prices are reasonable(most entrees are under $10). Most of the help on the other hand, would prefer to stand in a circle and shoot the breeze. You often, literally have to walk up to them and ask them to bring your food or drinks, because they simply could care less.

That's the place to go when you are in this area! Good environment and super nice people. Moreover, you can't beat the price! Thumb up for their homemade pies!
