Note: CASH ONLY! An ATM is near the front door. I'd known for years that were was a bakery inside this shopping plaza in Baldwin Borough, but it wasn't until a recent trip into the South Hills that I convinced Kay to take on a "side-mission" as the gamers say. First of all, I found nothing to be "hard as a rock" or "completely tasteless" as another reviewer stated. Instead the chocolate log cake I bought had a plush, moist body and a smooth, pale buttercream icing that was neither overly rich nor bland. The same basically goes for the cornmeal muffin-like chocolate chip cookies I took home. Now a day later, the cookies did become somewhat tougher (10 seconds in the microwave can remedy that), but upon tearing open the bag that day, each yellow puck was as soft as lard and was well-loaded with chocolate morsels, hints of salt making every bite all the sweeter. Also indulged in were spongy macaroons and Easter-themed "gobs" that were coated with a fudgy ganache and stuffed with that same buttercream and chocolate cake. I spoke with the proprietor as I was settling up and was told that Dave's has been in the area for over 17 years. That's an awful long time for a delicious little secret like this to stay hidden, Dave's Terrace Bakery being yet another uncovered jewel within Pittsburgh's suburbs. Come on out. Buy yourselves some sweets. You know you want to.

My grandfather enjoys this place so I have tried a variety of things. Everything was so gross! The cookies are hard as a rock and completely tasteless. The cake icing is terrible. It's not even sweet. I definitely would never recommend anyone coming here for anything.

Story is unbelievable but true. I placed an order over a week in advance for my son's birthday cake. The morning of his birthday one of the workers called and told me they had 3 people not show up and weren't going to make it. Just like that. No apology. No offer to make it up. Nothing. When I got mildly upset and told the lady that wasn't acceptable she hung up on me. When I called back and asked for the manager she was WAY worse than the first person and hung up on me. I called back again and they just picked up the phone and hung up. I waited a little while and tried to get a message to the owner and the lady threatened to call the cops if I called again. I've since called 3 times (once a day) and tried to speak with Dave the owner with no return calls. I wanted to discuss this with him before leaving the negative post since I've never felt the need before and wanted to give him a chance. Left written and voicemail messages so I know he has to be getting. If these managers treat their employees like they do their customers no wander 3 of them called off at once. I used to go there once a week or so to take donuts to work but never ever again. Pastries are ok but not good enough to make up for such horrendous customer service. There are plenty of other equal or better bakeries in the area to give my business.

I don't understand the other reviews. I've been using Dave's as my go-to bakery for several years. Their bread is fresh and delicious and their pastries are all perfectly made. They are more than happy to take special orders on even minor things. Their doughnuts are everything you could ask for. Please give them a try.

I haven't found anything here that was good. I can get the same thing with better quality from even a nasty place like walmart.
