The best roast pork sandwich in the business, especially with provolone and broccoli rabe. The atmosphere is very fast-food local, and the wait can seem excruciating, but the sandwiches are great, especially if you eat them on the picnic tables there. They are, however, so juicy that by the time you get them home the rolls have dissolved...so plan to stuff yourself on the spot.

We were visiting Philadelphia and my girlfriends husband said he wanted to go here because he saw it on a food show. We agreed. We get there and they are actually filming for another show. It was a good sign and was excited to try. They have a variety menu but known for the cheesesteaks. I got a plain. It was so good. The bread was soft, meat was tender and I really enjoyed it and watching them film another food show was very cool. While we were waiting we met the owner. What a great guy. He was so friendly and outgoing and urged us to try his roast pork sandwich, which was delicious. He really cares about his customers. Thank you for your hospitality. Next time we are in Philadelphia we will be back and certainly recommend.

Better tasting than the one in the Airport....good variety of sandwiches, good tasting meat, and toppings BUT the bread is not my favorite. It has a cornmeal dusting which I don't like, also it doesn't hold up well with the drippy cheese wiz. Overall, its only worth going back to bring other people to try.

The cheesesteaks here are delicious. The menu was bigger than expected. I love that they offer vegetable toppings. My Aunt had a chicken cheesesteak with brocolli and my bff had a chicken cheesesteak with spinach. Both flavored well. The only complaint my friend had was that the chicken wasn't shredded instead it was chopped. Oh and the fried triangle mozzarella were just mozzarela sticks. It was packed when we got there but surprisingly a table freed up just in time. Otherwise you might have to take your order to go.

The best of the Philly tourist spots and they're open late. A solid cheesesteak, good pizza steak, amazing roast pork sandwich and a really good chicken cutlet. The fries can be a meal by themselves, they're huge. I don't get people saying the staff is mean; the late night woman is always nice, says please and thank you, and calls me "baby", what more do you want? The guy at the window who gives you your food is nice and courteous too. Get a roast pork italiano with sharp prov and spinach, you'll thank me.

Awesome... Need we say more? Yes we will say more! we had the cheese steak with cheese whiz and fried onions ....delicious! in fact, totes delish!!! And we had the roast pork broccoli rabe called pork Italian... also totes delish! My son had the chili cheese fries and they were using his word "awesome!" No utensils allowed tho so prepare to get messy!!. Also they have pickles and hot peppers at the fixins bar so help yourself...free parking in the adjacent lot plus more across the street at tony luke's Casa dipasta restaurant... definitely a spot to hit in philly!

WORTH IT. Yum. I love me some cheese, bread, and steak, so some type of Philly Cheesesteaks were a must on my trip. I picked Tony Lukes after doing research for hours, and I was not disappointed, let me tell you that. I got American with (I was so nervous using philly slang, but it worked! Okay, I made my mom ordered it, but it still worked! Sh). If I go to Philly again, I'll probably try Pat's just to see what that's like because I've heard their cheesesteaks are great too. Definitely stop here just to see the viewing place for the sacrificing of the Philly Cheesesteak virgin. It's a national landmark more important than that stupid cracked Liberty Bell.

This was our first "cheesesteak" experience in town and it was good. We had two: chicken & steak. Honestly, the chicken was better. It was on a better roll, which might have been luck. There is only outdoor seating. It is covered, so rain isn't a problem, but temps in the 90's IS a problem. The pickle bar is wonderful, the price is what you'd expect: $20 for 2 steaks and a drink. Plenty of locals, plenty of parking, plenty of onions. When they say "Best Steak in South Philly", I believe it.

After reading the reviews on yelp, I had to try Tony Lukes despite Pats and Genos being the "popular" philly cheese steak place. I'm so glad I listened to yelp! Expect long lines, limited street parking, and limited seating. We got lucky and found a spot right when we pulled in. The wait was miserable because us Californians aren't used to the cold weather. I ordered the original Philly Cheesesteak with provolone. The bread was perfect---not too soggy with just the right amount of crunch. The meat itself wasn't too fatty like I was expecting and it was more lean and tender. Yum! The sandwich was huge and it took me 2 meals to finish it all. This place was a definitely a good deal and I'm glad I went!

Before enjoying Dave Matthews Band this past Saturday in Camden, friends and I ventured over to Philly to try Tony Luke's. Wow! Obviously Philly hype is all about the cheesesteak but, let me tell you, the Italian pork with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe was extraordinary!! Off the charts good. Good bread, tons of meat, nice amount of cheese and broccoli rabe -- and you can grab some hot peppers where you grab straws and napkins. Fries were great too - better than what I've had at another famous cheesesteak spot. Prices very reasonable and they have parking! Overall terrific first experience. By the way, Dave played for 3 1/2 hours! Top 5 concert experience!

Whenever my parents visit, they always want to eat a cheesesteak. Before going to the art museum, we stopped here to grab lunch. Parking was easy for us at lunch (odd sounding from the other reviews) as well as ordering. We all ordered cheesesteaks and I thought it was better than the other hyped places. But it's weird. There is a local joint near me that I think is better. So I use that as my barometer. The cheesesteak was good. My parents thought it was better than my local place. The place is good and if you are going to eat a cheesesteak in Philly, this is the better of the other 2 choices. I will have to check out the last "main" place to make the last comparison.

drove down here after going to the camden aquarium. got the cheesesteak with mild provolone and spinach. sandwich was very good and it packed alot of flavor. the meat was very juicy not dry like some other cheesesteak places. there are tables to sit down and the line moves pretty fast. Definitely one of my favorites in philly.

Tony Luke's totally knocks all other cheesesteak shops in Philly out of the water. I've never gotten a bad steak at this place. If I had one negative thing to say about this place is that it's a mad dash to get a table since it tends to get crowded especially when there are events being held at the nearby Sports Complex, but that's neither here no there. TL's is the Real Deal! A great stop for those visiting Philadelphia!

Stopped here to try Tony Luke's cheesesteak, and we were very impressed! Nice, thick, juicy, and tasty meat. Also got the chicken cutlet which was juicy as well as being seasoned perfectly. Great comfort food, and they have much better customer service than other cheesesteak joints in Philly in my opinion. Must try!

Random (and unnecessary) fact: I actually joined Yelp to find the perfect cheesesteak. I wasn't very scientific in my approach though. I kind of hopped around from place to place, frequently swayed by the opinions of friends and strangers alike. Additionally, I didn't document my experiences in a quantitative (or qualitative) manner. I hang my head in shame at my failures as a researcher. But, anecdotally I can state that I really enjoyed Tony Luke's. Was the entire experience amazing? Not at all. It wasn't as speedy as some of the other obvious cheesesteak joints; my cousins and I spent a fair amount of time standing around (talking about other cheesesteaks, which seems to be the only topic of discussion when we're at a cheesesteak establishment) and twiddling our thumbs as it were. It was super awkward because there were like... 15-20 other people milling about while waiting for their food. And we got hit up for money on our way out. Which... I guess that's all of Philadelphia, so it's not really a detraction as far as a review of Tony Luke's is concerned. On to the cheesesteak; the whiz was less than I'm used to from other places, and I would count that against Tony Luke's a little, but the steak was soft, and the bread was better than what I've had elsewhere. I was kind of toeing the line between [*][*][*] and [*][*][*][*] but the issues aren't enough for me to say the meal was only "A-OK." It really was an enjoyable cheesesteak. While the service/wait was "meh" and there were minor aspects of the meal that I would have done differently, I can't complain too much. As of right now, Tony Luke's is up there on my completely unscientific "best cheesesteak" list.

The broccoli rabe... Add it on everything! The pickles and the peppers, add it to every possible inch.

  • Anne W.

This place was a bit underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it was definitely tasty but I was expecting something absolutely awesome. There's something wrong when a cheesesteak from Chicago is better than one from Philly... There was definitely waaaaay too much cheese in mine. I actually felt like there was more cheese than beef. There's something wrong with that... It's definitely a solid cheesesteak but just not as awesome as it could've been. Sad. :(

Yea this was lovely. I just regret not getting Cheese Wiz. I got white American cheese instead. Just something about that cheap yellow can cheese you know lol. Lovely place. The Pizza Fries were the bombdizzle. Lastly adding some spice to the cheesesteak would've helped a lot too. But all in all great place.

Lived in Philly 3 months. Finally tried Tony Luke's. My ratings go 1. Steve's / Tony Luke's Need to try both side by side now 2. Jim's 3. Pat's haven't tried dalessandro's yet. hear there's some spot in west philly that's supposedly good too. but Tony Luke's was impressive. Clean, great staff, good meat, great bread.

I went here because it was featured on Man v. Food once. We traveled to this place from NYC (we were bored) and I had such high hopes for this place. Upon arrival, I noticed that there was a short line, which was a sign for us to turn back. We shouldered on and I realized that the staff seemed a bit rude. When I asked to go to the bathroom, they said there were portapotties in the parking lot. WHAT??!! We ordered a cheesesteak and some cheese fries. The cheesesteak was bland and the steak was extremely dry. I didn't even try to put some toppings on because it was open and people were touching it with their hands. YUCK. I loved the cheese fries, but that's only because I love fries and cheese. It's hard to go wrong with the two things. The place was really dirty and sticky. The weather was nice that day (68 degrees), so it might have contributed to the stickiness of the tables and benches. Never coming back

Six stars, no seven. I realize most of the reviewers here are from out of town, so they can be forgiven for not knowing that the thing to get at Tony Luke's is not the cheesesteak. You go to TL's for one thing. The sublime, transcendent, mesmerizing Pork Italian sandwich, maybe the best sandwich on Earth. There are a thousand things on the menu, and you can see them all while you wait on line, but when you get to the front, simply say to the nice lady "Pork Italian Spinach, please", and you're done. If you like Broccoli Rabe, so be it, but this is the sandwich locals order there. Try it, you'll like it.

This is my favorite place for cheese steaks in Philadelphia. They are sizable and very filling and I feel the least crappy after eating them. They have an extensive toppings menu and their pickle bar is crisp and tasty. Love them! It's a must if you are in Philly.

Tony Luke's is the best cheesesteak I've had in South Philly. The bread is phenomenal. Perfectly crunchy. The whiz isn't overwhelming like at other places. High quality meat. They have a wide menu selection and plenty of seating in the tent as well as parking out back. And my customer service experience was actually pretty good (not that it really matters to me anyway). Definitely will be heading this way after the next Eagles game I go to next season!

THE BEST CHEESE STEAK IN PHILLY. NO. REALLY. THE BEST. Don't fall into the trap of Pat's and Geno's. DON'T. This is melt in your mouth cheese steak. Expect a long line, no where to park, and the best cheese steak.

  • Kelly D.

This is hands down the worse cheesesteak I have ever had. I could have made this at home with steakums and it would have been better. The cheese was chewy and hard and the meat was gross. They even forgot the fried onions I asked for. It was just so gross I could not even finish it. If you like good food don't go here.

Never got order and when I asked they simply said they mixed and did nothing to fix problem. I asked for refund and went else where. I will now be going to Jims instead. Important to note that I was waiting 35-40 mins before they figured out they "mixed" up order.

The third most overrated cheesesteak in Philly, not far behind Geno's (1st) and Pat's (2nd). Terrible location, decent people, cheese runnier than a cold after the 4th day, fried onions that could've been replaced by rinds, and meat as chewy as a Milky Way. Save yourself the effort and go to Steve's on South. Or hell, any place closer to you.

  • Danielle R.

Um yeah yay yummmmmmmmmmmmmm do it! Couple things: 1) it's more a pick up window then it is a restaurant 2) they have seating but it's outside and it's first come first serve 3) it's delicious (but not nutritious!!!)

Your boy Tony knows where it's at for an authentic Philly Cheese steak Sandwich - at his place off Oregon Ave by the freeway (Please just say "Cheese steak") Forget the whole "wit whiz" thing the tourist sites warn you of, here it is just straight forward delicious artery-clogging masterpieces that are sure to get a rise out of your cardiologist (along with your LDL.) The sandwiches are bigger than your forearm, and definitely bigger than your stomach so you can either a) share with a friend or b) leave the friend at home and eat it by yourself without judgement. BEWARE: No public bathroom, you will have to walk a block away to McDonalds or Burger King. Many suggest sandwiches can be found on the board or customize it yourself, about 10$ for everything including tax. They take card for 12$ and up, so while you're eating incognito be sure to order something for dinner / late night snack that you will regret tomorrow when you hit the scale. The cheeze wiz Philly cheese steak with sweet + hot peppers, tomatoes and grilled onions will knock your socks off. Knock. Your. Socks. Off. Or order with sharp provolone for another popular choice that adds a unique flavor to this already life changing moment. Beware: These are not for the weak-willed. It takes a lot of commitment to stuff an entire cow's worth of rib-eye down your throat. Fast for breakfast and delve in - you'll walk away with a smile and rockin' those grease stains like a badge of honor. You deserve it, my friend. Calories, you ask? There's not a menu big enough to fit all those zero's. As we say in Brooklyn, fuhgettaboutit!

What makes Philadelphia steak and cheese different from philly steak-n-cheese from everywhere else in the US is the meat quality and the unnecessary additions. Tony Luke's does it right. The meat isn't the dinky shredded steak strips n drenched in oil that you're used to. All you can eat jalapeño... Key. Don't pass by it. Make it a point to stop by. It'll be worth the experience.

  • Cathy H.

Best cheesesteak in Philly, hands-down. Don't waste your time at Pat's and Geno's despite the famous rivalry. All that doesn't matter. Tony Luke's uses very fresh bread that is crispy on the exterior and fluffy on the interior. Steak is thinly sliced and tender. I ordered mine with fried onions and Whiz since that's a classic. At the self-serve area, there are ginormous Italian peppers and perfectly crispy and tangy pickles -- all homemade. The cheesesteak does not need any other condiments, so taste it before you douse it with hot sauce, mustard, etc. Tony Luke's is in South Philly by the stadium. Off Oregon Ave, it is very easy to find and there is a little lot, so parking won't be an issue. I had it at 11 AM and would prefer to go at this time in the future to avoid a wait.

Had Tony Lukes on several occasions while passing through Philly. It is a great sandwich and given a choice for a meal, I would not pass it by for anything other than another cheese steak I like more. The meat is of standard quality and the bun is a little above average. It just didn't pack the flavor I get at some of my favorite cheese steam joints.

No drink refills?!?! How the ***** are you supposed to eat a good Philly cheesesteak with just one cup. Not gonna work. Not worth it.

We came here on a hot sunny summer afternoon and got two philly cheese steak sandwiches. The sandwiches were delicious and juicy. Finding seats can be challenging, but not impossible and they have a parking lot. Will definitely come back for the roast pork and broccoli rabe sandwich!

Every time we're in Philly we try to try a different place for cheese steaks. Tony Luke's shows up on top ten lists pretty consistently. I had the steak with onions and provolone. They use a sharp provolone which is adds a distinctive tang. Pretty good steak.

The fries were better than the cheesesteak. **side-eye** I tried the cheesesteak and from the first bite, I knew that the bread was the magnum opus of the meal. The steak, which should have been the highlight, tasted like tender and tasteless plastic. The least these people could have done is add some salt and pepper. The sandwich was greasy, there was enough meat in the bread to feed a starving family of 4, and the cheese tasted processed. Very anticlimactic, given the reviews. My sister tried the chicken cheesesteak and the chicken tasted better than it looked. Never again. I will add, however, that this place has a cute setup and free parking right near it. Too bad I will never take advantage of the free parking ever again.

My husband's first cheesesteak experience was good. He had the Philly cheesesteak with fried onions and American cheese. I had the chicken cheesesteak with fried onions and American cheese and I liked it better than his. They have wonderful pickles and peppers that you can help yourself to. A real deal cheesesteak place!

  • I I.

Was in Philly and wanted to check out all the cheesesteak places. With so many to choose, I went with the top 3 in this order: Pat's, Geno's, and Tony Luke's. Luckily went when there were no lines in either and got to taste all of them quickly! To make this test fair we ordered all of them with Cheez Whiz and onions and took a few bites. For Tony's, it did take a bit longer for them to make the sandwich than Pat's and Geno's, but it was a little cheaper than them, so meh. It was very similar to Pat's for me in taste, the chunks of meat, and even the bread. The sandwich was not piping hot, which I thought it should since it took awhile to come out. Overall it was good.
