A fun place with nice people but I don't smoke. Some places that allow smoking are tolerable because they have good ventilation with filters. This isn't one of then. Sometimes it gets so smokey you can barely see the stage from the back. 5 stars if I could breathe and not come home smelling like an ash tray.

If you're looking for classy, Sweeney's is not it. Although the laid back atmosphere is great for all (above 21) ages. The people are friendly, the bartenders are fun. The bands aren't the best, but drinks are cheap and everyone knows your name. With pool tables, dart boards, live (not always good) music, video games and food, there is something for everyone. It even offers take out beer. not being forced to go outside for a smoke is a plus as well.

This place is the best place to see original bands on a Thursday. You can also catch original bands like Skullfire, Deluge, and Dime Street Joker on a weekend. The beer is cheap and everyone is friendly.

ATM stole 40 dollars out of my account and when I told the bartender that it took the money out but didn't give me the money he told me that it wasn't the bars problem. the customers and staff are rude and not in a charming dive bar kinda way, but in a "Hi I'm from hick land PA and am hanging out in a bar that is attached to a strip mall." the prices are high for what the bar is, the only up side is you can smoke and the bands are generally descent. I've been to this bar a few times and everytime I leave I feel like I was violated by rednecks and then robbed. I can say that after multiple bad experience( and I mean BAD, I had a friend get groped and the waitress thought it to be hilarious) I will NEVER go back. Save your self the time and money and find a different bar!!! If I could give them a 0 star I would. there are plenty of good dingy dive bars that let you smoke, and have beer to go in the Philadelphia area, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!

Atmosphere isn't too bad, but there's no reason to pay a 5 dollar cover charge and pay for overpriced drinks. Not nearly worth the price of admission.

Much like Tally Ho -- this guy gets two stars for being a smoking bar. I love the lack of pretension from the clientele. Two pool tables, a dart board and a back room with an island bar and stage for live bands. The music the night I was there was pretty crappy (not a fan of mediocre hardcore cover bands). Was pretty annoyed that the bartender didn't tell us that a pitcher would've been more cost effective than the three pints we bought at the same time.

We've been here 2 more times since my first review and those times have been great. I can't say enough how awesome and accommodating the staff is here. Last night my boyfriend's band was playing again. We all got an awesome deal for our friends and I, $25 open bar for 3 hours which included well drinks and domestic bottles. But this one patron there was giving my two friends a difficult time, the patron ended up throwing a beer bottle at my friend and immediately got kicked out! We appreciate the staff being thoughtful and checking up on my friend who was extremely upset and also made sure that we were all safe outside leaving the bar. It's unfortunate that the patron was a drunk idiot, but the bar handled it very well.

Stopped in for a Metallica cover band and a few beers which eventually turned into lots of beers and a few shots... typical old man bar (couple pool tables, tv's and the scent of stale beer) I'd stop back again depending on the cover band. I didn't try the food but the wings looked pretty good.

Sweeney's is always a good time. It's a classic bar with a great and friendly staff and the food is AMAZING. Their wings are the best in Philly. It's a feel good neighborhood bar where everyone knows your name and their always glad you came.

Not worth the cover charge (which they charge on weekends, no clue if it's similar for week days). They do have take out, but it's quite expensive, even for your average macro brews. I was disappointed in their lack of good crafts beers (though they did have Dogfishhead at least), and their general prices tended to be a little more than similar bars in the area. The only reason I can see myself going back is for the live music, otherwise there's not much that's exceptional about this place.

Sweeneys needs a lot of work. The staff are friendly for the most part, but they don't know a lot about bartending. When I ordered a Tequila Sunrise, the bartender walked away to make the drink, then came back and asked me what was in it. A Tequila Sunrise is a classic bar staple and and every bartender should know how to at least make that. Later in the night, I asked about the glasses they had under the bar and what they were used for, to which the bartender replied "They're for mixed drinks...don't ask me to make one, I'll kill myself." Perfect example of less than great customer service. They charge covers for less than average bands, and overall it's just not a fun bar to hang out at for people in their mid-20s (which is the crowd a bar can make the most money from). Overall, not a place I would recommend.
