This place is great! I think it's a must see part of Philadelphia. It's so cute inside, and outside. It has the feel of an old time/good time! It's a little funky, and has red lights. I totally want to disco dance every time I step inside. Now for the cream, the food is AMAZING. It is so delicious and has so many options. Healthy, naughty, treats and everything in between. I loved every option. It was really tasty! The drinks are also amazing! I sampled many drinks, and my favorite is The Spring Garden. However, The Pink Panther is a close second. It's delicious. Everything here is great! The people are great! Go go go!

I had been looking forward to dining at Silk City for a while. i've heard how fun it is and that the food is pretty decent, too. After a long wait for outside seating, the three of us were first seated in the corner of the outdoor beer garden, trapped between the bar, the steps, and a table full of incredibly loud/drunk people who had no intention of a) moving their party, or b) moving out of our way anytime one of us (or the waitress) had to get out of our little corner. We lasted MAYBE 5 minutes before we grabbed a table inside. It's not Silk City's fault that some rude and loud guests were there, but why were we seated in such an inaccessible space? Doesn't make sense form a service perspective. Oh well. Onward. Once inside, our waitress was SUPER nice and friendly. We started with the Thai Chili Wings. I'm not a huge wing fan (they kind of gross me out) - but the flavor was great and the wings themselves had a ton of meat on them. After much deliberation, I decided on the Shrimp burger and swapped a salad for fries. The burger was a mystery to me. I was getting huge, meaty chunks of shrimp, but the burger wasn't falling apart and had a great flavor. I'm not sure how they pulled it off, but it was a surprisingly good dish - and the best of the entrees anyone ordered at our table. My friends got the Eggplant Parm Sandwich and the Italian Dip Roast Beef Sandwich respectively. They were both pretty underwhelmed, but enjoyed their sides (fries and onion rings).

Got the chicken and waffles, best I've had and staff was friendly, clean environment.

Just had Father's day brunch here with my man and 4 year old... Everything was delicious, servers were fantastic and we were able to order 1 giant pancake instead of 3 for the little guy. Great grits and bloody marys!

Chicken and waffles with bloody marys....very delicious. The service was awesome. The bloody's are ok, but the chicken and waffles were insane. I will be back shortly for more chicken and waffles.

My friend and I stopped in before a show at Union Transfer down the road. At first we were intimidated by the prices and the fact that there are no breakfast options later in the day, but when I got my sandwich and fries I quickly changed my tune. The fries are handcut and perfectly seasoned. All the vegetables in my sandwich appeared fresh, and the turkey tasted great. Everything was fresh and delicious. Next time I am in philly for a show at Union Transfer, this will be my go-to spot

Quirky, fun, great food and good vibes. My husband and I went with my in-laws a few years ago and I've often thought about that warm late-summer day, conversations over a cold bottle of Dogfish lager while munching on the perfectly airy, crispy fried calamari (with tart, briny cherry peppers in the mix, genius!). The peppery arugula, earthy honey roasted beets and bright citrus lingered faintly as I admired the colorful strung lights, sculptures and mosaics in the patio as we talked and the sun set... I definitely think of returning to Philly just for a stroll around the beautiful historic town, and a bite in that awesomely zany little place.

First time here, patio seating and atmosphere is great. Sunday morning brunch, didnt wait long to be seated despite being busy. Food was quick to come out, but delicious. I had the Huevos Rancheros and my friend had the chicken and waffles. Both were delicious and not a disappointment. Drinks were great although a little lite on the alcohol. Fresh squeezed ok in the mimosa was wonderful. Prices for the quality was unbeatable. Waitress was polite and prompt. Mixed crowd of patrons which added to the enjoyable atmosphere. Was not a big fan of their bloody mary but all in all great experience. Would definitely come again and recommend.

We always find our drinks to be incredibly strong, not to say that was a bad thing. The food looks good, but I've actually never eaten here. It's usually our go to place before/after a show at E-Factory, Union Transfer, or Festival Pier and it's always busy. Service is fast and polite. The beer garden is a nice place on a spring or summer evening. I just wish the bathrooms were a bit nicer, but all in all this is a great place for a night out!

This is for the food. Silk City, I'm sorry baby. We had some pretty rough times during our relationship, and when it ended, I was pretty torn up. Well, it turns out, that was because I was trying to make you something you're not, baby. And now that I'm enjoying what you have to offer, I'm pretty sure we can get back together as food buddies** and I can let you put things inside of me again. **Kinda like bang buddies but less complicated and more exchange of money involved. The food at Silk is tits. I'd always kind of had it as an afterthought because I'd been introduced to this place as the bro-ey shit show that I reviewed twice before. No longer! Come here for dinner on a weeknight and prepare to be blown away! Things worth trying: The Silk Salad - mixed greens, grape tomato, crispy croutons, and tangy dressing with sliced avocado to bring it all together. Surprisingly filling and hearty. I suggest getting the dressing on the side because it's pretty forward. The burger with any of their toppings - It comes standard with lettuce, pickle, and beefsteak tomato, but the other toppings are where it shines. Caramelized onion, mushroom, and provolone is a favorite of mine. Kinda like a cheese steak burger, I guess. Mac and cheese with bacon - this shouldn't need an explanation. No crazy old-world cheese combinations or truffle oil. Just elbow macaroni in a well made cheddar sauce with liberal amounts of bacon, and crispy garlic bread crumbs on top. Nice! Of course, the booze selection and pricing is win upon win, but I never had an issue with that, even when other patrons were very nearly throwing up on my shoes. I'll be back for more. Squarely a fan again.

I had my surprise 30th birthday celebration at Silk City lounge many moons ago so it was so awesome reuniting with 2 of my closest Philly friends for brunch there this past weekend. Awesome outdoor seating area! We got a cute table in the corner and could not have had a better time. Food (huevos rancheros, eggs benedict and grilled cheese, not to mention the bloody marys) were fabulous. Likewise, the service was exceptional. My friends and I cannot wait to return to Silk City. Highly recommend!!!

I didn't realize until last night that I've been here a couple times before. This was teh first time I visited with intent rather than ending up here, and the goal was to dance. Dance I did not. Out to celebrate a bud's birthday, we first ate on the diner side. I started with a Tom & Jerry to drink, because I needed to warm my insides. It was the first I tried the drink and I liked it a lot, though I doubt it's the epitome of a Tom & Jerry. I moved on afterward to the Dark & Stormy, which was nothing amazing but ginger beer is tasty. While the salads sound delicious, in anticipation of the night's activity I ordered a burger with goat cheese and mushrooms, medium rare. Most readers will not be surprised to hear that the burger was cooked medium. It was a large burger with a good brioche bun, but I couldn't finish it and preferred to fork the cheese & mushrooms leaving the burger. The fries were a pleasant ratio of crunchy and tender. The waitress was solid. We moved to the bar and future dance floor, where we learned they stop serving cocktails at 8pm. No more Dark & Stormies. We avoided having to pay a cover by arriving early though, so that was nice--Especially because the music consisted of top pop/club hits circa 2001-2006 and that's about it. Not my jam at all. The line-up of songs could have just been playing from a Pandora playlist. Silk City tweeted last night, "@DJDeeJay is playing a few songs that has folks going down memory lane but in a great way." Poor grammar notwithstanding, I still cannot agree (Also, DJ DeeJay didn't do most of the deejaying last night). If this was evidence of Silk City being the spot to get down on Saturday nights, then I will be having my own dance parties at home for a while. Diner side is def the stronger side at Silk CIty. The birthday girl had fun, though, and that's what matters, right?

The food is bomb. I've been here for brunch and it was so worth it. It helps that they have so much space that any other place on the weekend would be packed. The dancing is..pretty bomb. A lot of dudebros come here but if something cool isn't happening at the Barbary, then this is a good second bet.

We all ordered the Belgium waffles & they were delicious! Service was very quick. They sat us in the bar area that's used for partying, it's kinda smelly back there & we would have preferred to sit in the diner part of the restaurant ... The mimosas were very strong if you enjoy that kind of thing Bonus: 90s R&B soundtrack

This place is so cool and just hip for all ages! I felt so cool just eating here. It looks like a normal diner, but when you walk in, to your right is the diner, to your left is the club area. Everyday is a different theme. So I went on a Monday and that was Motown Monday! I'm 23 years old and I felt to young to go party with the older crowd but I definitely enjoyed the music and just the energy I felt while eating. Oh yeah and the food and service was great! Highly recommended!

Had been a while.. Will be a while- Had been a while since we had visited. Honestly not sure if they've gotten a new cook or new management but in our opinion something changed at Silk City and it's a shame. Service was great and we got seated quickly but the food came out burned and did not delight the taste buds. We used to enjoy coming to the city and having brunch at Silk City but now I think it's time to find a new spot.

I have been here a few times and generally enjoyed myself. I had gone before during the day with friends and twice at night after concerts at Union Transfer with no problems whatsoever. I am not sure if I missed the memo because Yelp says one thing and the dude at the door said another. Per usual after a concert we all headed over to Silk City Diner and were pretty thirsty and eager for a bite to eat. Upon most of our entry my friend wasn't allowed inside because he wasn't 21. I am not sure if it was just luck we had gotten in after concerts prior, or if it has something to do with the PLCB (which is a mess in itself), but I was pretty annoyed due to the inconsistency.

Pretty solid dance club, almost a decade strong under this management. Not a huge fan of DJ Deejay or other Top 40 DJs, and though I love Motown you can only go to so many Motown/throwback nights... but occasionally they have real stars like Lee Mayjahs? or Questlove popping in for some actual silky beats. They let wayyyy too many people in however -- I love a good sweaty dance hut as much as the next person, but multiple times I've been here it has literally been hard to move. Then factor in the heavily drunk uncoordinated people, and you have a dam mess. The food is only average but a nice menu variety, long open hours, and great outdoor garden enhance the okay cuisine. If you are there for the food experience, go have a better version of it at N3rd instead.

The food is excellent here. Everyone in my party loved what we got. The diner is also adorable, the outside seating area is especially cute. Good music while eating good food. The only thing that was disappointing was the service - our server wasn't attentive and we had to ask for drink refills. Definitely recommend and the food is worth coming back for over and over.

Great service, great food, cool vibe! Definitely enjoyed the Reuben sandwich, the fries were also very good. It was around midnight when I arrived and I had no trouble parking. the gentleman at the door was very nice and the hostess got us sat right away. The server was very attentive and the food came out just as it should. my friend had a burger, which she said was perfectly cooked. This is only the first time I have been here, but I will definitely return.

Stopped by here Saturday around 3PM for lunch outside on a beautiful day. However! When you are just sitting there waiting for food, the sun gets REALLY hot and the umbrella over our table was not shading anything. We were quickly seated outside where there were 2 or 3 open tables but by the time we were leaving there were a lot of open tables so 4ish would be a better time to come. The boyfriend had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich $12 (prosciutto, sharp provolone, broccoli rabe, long hots, basil pesto mayo, ciabatta) and enjoyed it. I had the Smoked Salmon Benedict $12 (house cured salmon, sautéed spinach, toasted english muffin, dill hollandaise, roasted potatoes) that was pretty good. The hollandaise sauce was a bit too creamy for me but overall the dish was good. The english muffin was nicely toasted and the salmon was good. It also came with a thin slice of melon that the boyfriend took. Our waitress was hard to get a hold of by the end but other than that, she was nice. Might be back since the location is pretty convenient and having the option of a big outdoor seating or nice indoor seating is nice.

We went to Silk City based on the Yelp reviews. We had breakfast and it was fabulous. They offer biscuits and gravy and I think they were the best I ever had. Eggs over easy cooked perfectly. Sausage delicious taste. Cheese grits were excellent. My wife got the smoked salmon platter. They were very generous with the salmon. It came with a salad that had the most delicious dressing. She ordered a side of potatoes. We like our potatoes cooked well done and they were perfect. Prices very reasonable. All in all, a perfect experience.

I was in philly for the weekend, and asked the bestie to find a cool brunch spot. We arrived around 12pm on a Sunday. Reservations aren't accepted, but we were seated maybe, 30-40 minutes after arriving. While waiting, I went to CVS which is right next door. When I returned, my party had been seated. I walk to the hostess station to ask where my party had been seated. 2 female hostesses talked to one another, about something work related for a few minutes while I stood in front of them. By the time they acknowledged me, I received a text from my friend, so I walked away from the hostess station (No one ever said anything to me.) I walk outside, past the cool bar, and find my friends. Once I arrive I see they're seated in the sun. I spotted a hostess (1 of 2 from earlier) and asked if we could sit at a table across from ours because it was in the shade, but had not been cleaned off. She said she didn't know, she would have to check. I then asked if it was ok to move the table a few feet into the shade. She then replied "Calm down, everything is going to be ok." Uhmmmmm what, I'm calm, is what I thought to myself. She was a weirdo. Anyway, we moved the table into the shade. Our server Rebecca was great. We ordered the white sangria. Not a fan, too much ice, and no taste. I ordered the smoked salmon benedict, and cheese eggs... both were great. I'm a stickler for amazing customer service. This place could have gotten 3 or 4 stars, but the hostess situation was annoying, so 2 stars it is.

My fiancé and I are in a mission to go to as many Diners,Drive-Ins, and Dives places as possible. SilkCity is one of the Philly ones. We went for brunch and I had the sweet potato, pork belly hash. My fiancé had a burger. We both absolutely loved our food!!! The hash was savory with a little sweetness-I wish I could have it all the time! My fiancé is a burger snob and was very happy with his choice. Drinks are well made but take longer than most places to get to the table. Atmosphere is really cool- we sat in the lounge side but there is also a more traditional diner part and an outdoor garden area.

Fried chicken and waffles here are AMAZING. I love coming here when it's warm out, the outside bar is adorable. I used to love the throwback hip hop they used to play but I went a couple weekends ago and it was house and trance music. I hope they bring back their old choice of music

I love it here. I basically live right next door and I'm usually here about once a week. I've always had a great experience. I usually order right off of the today's specials and have never been disappointed! The staff is always friendly and I love that the outdoor seating is open for the season!

  • Michael N.

I'm strictly writing based on the food and drinks as I'm not a huge fan of the venue at Silk City. Overall though, Silk City is a cool spot. Going from a smaller bar in an renovated diner in the winter time to a massive restaurant with outdoor seating in the summer must be tough on the chefs, but I've never noticed a drop in quality from winter to summer. The menu isn't overly big, but there are enough options from salads (chicken Cesar was excellent) to appetizers and sides (the baked mac is to die for) sandwiches and full on dinner options. Drink wise there are plenty of craft beer options at standard Northern Liberties prices. As I hinted at above, the real draw of this place is the outdoor area / beer garden that is open in the summer time. With plenty of umbrellas and shady spots, this is generally a good place to grab a drink or some food during the summer. Bonus points for all the weird and colorful art throughout the space. Service has always been decent, but not over the top. As for the location, there tends to be plenty of street parking in the area, especially on 5th just south of Spring Garden. Just be careful if you park too far to the west as it is sort of a no man's land. Be smart.

This review is solely based on my dinner experience at silk city: I ordered a chicken salad sandwich with fries, and a bomb pop (at least I think that is what it's called) frozen drink. The chicken salad sandwich was decent. Good hearty bread and generically good chicken salad. The mixed drink, however, was so incredibly gross. It was super tart and strange, and was nothing like a bomb pop (those awesome red white and blue Popsicles every kid from the 90s grew up on). Though the drink was upwards of ten bucks, it was bad enough for me to leave it on the table. The service was good, and I have heard that it's a super fun nighttime venue. They apparently have good music and dancing, and everyone seems to enjoy it. I will revisit the silk city diner in the future, and update my review once I have had a second experience.

I love Silk City for the Vintage boxcar diner look and also the amazing food and great time I have everytime i go there. The wings and mac and cheese are usually my pick my date had a grilled chicken ceaser salad and everything was portioned out great. The music was great the dj had us dancing all night! The drinks were nice and strong and last but not least the service was top notch.

It was convenient and unique to have the restaurant/beer garden and the club under one roof. We started off in the beer garden and were able to order drinks and finger foods. The food quality and the drinks were decent. I recommend the thai chili wings. The empanadas are good as well, but the portion size is small. However, the main draw is being able to relax in a chill atmosphere before the more intense dance club portion of the night. On the other hand, it was a bit jarring to move from the hipster-ish beer garden experience to the dance club experience, which was your typical club pumping out the usual suspects (Missy Elliot, Jay-Z, etc). Regarding the club, the dance floor felt small on a Saturday night. The L-shape arrangement of the space meant that the bar area was underutilized while everyone was smushed together on the dance floor to the point that it really kept groups from being able to dance at times. Overall, I'm glad that our group went here because we were able to get two very different experiences in one night, and would recommend trying it out.

This review is for Saturday nights: My best friends and I have been going to Silk City for about 7 years now, and it is hands down the BEST dance club in the city!! DJ Deejay is AWESOME, and the crowd is great. People actually come here to DANCE - not to just stand around. Usually no assholes in here to bother you, so that's definitely a plus. It gets PACKED, but it's worth it for a really fun night out. The drinks are a bit pricey but you'll pay pretty much the same at other places. They have 2 bars which helps when you are trying to get a drink fast (I go to the bar that is in the dining area if the other one is too packed). Overall, we've never had a bad time here! Won't have more fun anywhere else if you're looking to dance the night away!

Good lord I love this place. Silk city consists of 3 parts, the dance floor (where I spend most of my time when I come here), the diner, and the beer garden. An intoxicated persons trifecta. You can be three different versions of yourself all in one night when you come here. A) casual, sipping on a craft brew in the beer garden B) hungry and stuffing your face full of their awesome fries C) hyphy on the dance floor I've always had a great time here, though I've only been to eat and on Saturday nights for DJ deejay.

Thursday 11pm review: Am I cray or does this joint remind you of 90210's Peach Pit? Omg I was on set. I could not believe places like this exist. You eat at the coolest frickin diner and head down the steps and into a hip hop club????? WHAAAAAT! Omg I paid $13 for my HUGE bangin buffalo chix salad, $7 bucks for amazeballs ooey gooey Mac n Cheese, $8 bucks or something for my vodka drink and paid $3 bucks to dance my ass off until my whole body was drenched in hip hop, hot, dirty, grindy, sweat. Holy cow. You know the Chef is happy there because the food is really good. I mean, I was shocked. Any joint that's attached to a dance club just screams bad food. Plus, who goes to dance and eats??? Welp folks, if you love to eat with music blasting from the club and everybody drinking and having a good time, this is the place for you. And the prices are so cheap!!!! Omg I'm from NYC and now I wanna move to Philly!!!!!!!!!! The diner part and the club part are run and managed so efficiently together. They coexist in perfect harmony. It's unbelievable. And the people that work here, WORK. They're awesome, friendly, and their eyes are everywhere, very fast, taking care of each and every goddamn people in that place. It's so awesome. This place is frickin awesome. If you're lookin for some good ass food and loud music, this place is for you!

Love this cute place. They have great food & drinks. For brunch I had pomegranate mimosas, pancakes, but they were out of Mac biscuits. For dinner we had chicken, Mac, and mashed which was more than enough to share for two people, and the coconut rum drink. The decor is different and adorable.

Silk City is best described as a 1950s diner meets a 1970s disco overcome by hipsters. The Pork Belly Empanadas are delicious, a must order. I had the Ham Hock Mac & Cheese, it was heavy on the Mac & Cheese, light on the Ham Hock (I think there was some in there). The reason for the 3 stars is the service. It is your privilege to be able to be served at Silk City (at least if you are sitting in the Lounge). Do not expect anything more than your dishes to be changed and your check. In fact, the most attention that was paid to us was when it was time for the check. Drinks were empty (thank goodness for water), and I don't think I saw our waitress until it was time for the check.

Had a very good turkey BLT with avacado on a multigrain bread. Fries were really good too. Sat in the diner part and had a nice view of spring garden street and a valet guy breakdancing. Will definitely come back. Really chill vibe. Nice lighting. My only complaint is that the sandwich was large and the prices are kind of high. Staff is really cool and comped us some drinks because they accidentally sat some one before us. They brought it to our attention, not the other way around.

The first place I ate at when I moved to Philadelphia - a keeper! I've been several times since and cannot tear myself away from the Honey Roasted Beet Salad. Stay with me ... Red + yellow beets, baby arugula, oranges, whipped feta cheese, pistachio honey. I had no idea I even liked beets. Hands down, the best salad I've ever had. Not your dish? My boyfriend swears by their baked mac + cheese. When my parents were in town, mom got the eggplant parmesan sandwich + good 'ol dad got the buttermilk fried chicken. Both agreed SS had a unique take on what diner food can (and should) be. There's a great patio out back, though I'd imagine seating might be limited once winter hits.

Great night spot!!! I went here for my friends birthday and was so excited about it!! I have been driving past it since moving to this city and always wondered about this eccentric looking spot. I never knew what it was from the outside. We got here around 10pm (directly from dinner) and the place had a decent amount of people but not so many that makes you frustrated. The music was awesome when we got there- throwbacks and some good hip hop. We ordered drinks but I was not happy. I ordered a Malibu bay breeze and though the drinks were reasonably priced (especially for the location) the actual drink was not well done. It's a sweet drink but this was super sweet (even for me!) my friends ordered drinks and they weren't too happy either. As the night went on the music (in my opinion) got worse, not better. By the time I decided to leave because I couldn't stand the crowd, the music was overplayed stuff from 3-6 years ago. It was overcrowded and I think fairly overrated. Sorry silk city, the drinks and the music were just average. Nothing to go out of my way for again, especially if I have to pay $5.

I was surprised by how mediocre Silk City has become. The outdoor space is still awesome, especially on a gorgeous night. But I once thought Silk City bests Standard Tap? Not even close. I visited the other night. The bar only has 3 rotating drafts, along with Kenzinger (4), Lager (3), and Blue Moon. I still found something worth drinking. Calamari was okay, but the rest of the meal needed some help. $12 for a chicken sandwich with a 4:1 bread to meat ratio. Salt and pepper were foreign concepts to a burger made with the most bland ground beer in all of Philadelphia. Slow service lead me to wondering several times, "So why have I been waiting for a beer for so long?" Price is high, especially for the quality. 1 app, 2 beers, 2 mixed drinks, 2 sandwiches comes to almost $80 after tip? Yikes. Bottom Line: I can't think of a single reason to recommend Silk City. Wait...they have huge pickles with all the sandwiches. That's the best part of the whole place.

Lately my experiences with Silk City have been less than stellar. My favorite dish (fried chicken) has been stone cold in the middle on more than one occasion. Today I had breakfast and my food was horrible. I had the Eggs Benedict. One of my English Muffins was straight out of the bag and not even slightly toasted, the other was burnt. The eggs were poached nicely but they put only about a tablespoon of hollandaise sauce on top not even covering the egg. And to top it off the breakfast potatoes were very cold and have obviously been sitting around for some time. The bacon topped corn muffin with a Mac and Cheese center was yummy, and the Bloody Mary was as usual top notch. The kitchen should NEVER send out food that is in lees than perfect condition. Please please please get it together Silk City!

My first experience at Silk City was this weekend when my boyfriend and I went for breakfast. I ordered the Silk City pancakes which had caramelized bacon INSIDE the pancakes (!!) and he got the Silk City breakfast sandwich (fried egg, cheddar, bacon, avocado, arugula, tomato, garlic aioli on a croissant). Needless to say, both of our breakfasts were incredible and perfectly executed. The pancakes were everything a weekend breakfast treat should be...fluffy, salty/sweet and filling. My boyfriend was pleased to see that the sandwich came with hash browns that were sautéed with peppers and onions. We both also had coffee (by La Columbe) that was delicious. Our server was attentive and the price was very reasonable. I definitely want to come back for breakfast and try Silk City for dinner!

I've been to Silk City twice for Happy Hour, one time I sat on the inside and the second time outside, I loved the outside ambiance much better. This past Sunday my fiance and I went for brunch. All I had to do was tell him they have chicken and waffles and he was onboard :) I was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was even down to my decaf coffee. I got cheese grits, and a croissant sandwich with eggs, cheese and turkey bacon and my fiance of course got the chicken and waffles. The food was good, the ambiance of being outside on a sunny Sunday morning was awesome, and the wait wasn't bad either, but we did get there close to 10:00 am. As we were leaving there was huge line to get in, so I made a mental note to never go for brunch after 11:00 am if I'm hungry. Overall nice experience and I would definitely go back.

I went to this place one Summer evening and we loved the food! She had Salmon and I had the Fried Calamari with the most amazing sauce, and there Buffalo Wings. The Fried Calamari was perfectly fried and flavorful and the wings may have been one of the top 5 I've ever ate. The Mac and Cheese was just as good as a homemade dish it wasn't no Mac with some cheap cheese sauce it was homemade. baked, and real cheesy with bacon bits at the top. If your looking for a place to eat quality food with a large variety of options this is a perfect place to eat. I loved it!

Came back this past weekend and had a rockin' frisee salad for brunch. We were actually planning on trying Green Eggs in Northern Liberties but couldn't get parking. Then we tried Cafe La Maude - there was a line out the door. No line at Silk City, plenty of parking, and the food was among the best I've had. The lettuce was fresh. It came with a honey-maple vinaigrette, which was different and super light - perfect complement to the salad. The salad was topped with small pieces of crispy bacon and potatoes. I'd order it again in a heart beat. This is the second awesome salad I've gotten at Silk City. My parter had a pork belly hash which he really enjoyed. And the service was awesome. I generally hate brunch, but if any place could turn me onto it, it's Silk City.

I have lived a few blocks from this place and always pass it but tonight I finally took the leap and entered. The ambience is awesome, great throwback music, great service and over all cool vibe... Oh yeah the Mac N cheese is tits!!! I also ordered the chipotle chicken and bacon sandwich which I had to wrap up for lunch tomorrow because I grossly underestimated the size of the Mac N Cheese... Will def be back in the near future.

TIP:In beer garden forgo the tabletop candle after dark. Pretty but the skeeters love it too. SCD was everything previously reviewers stated. A very nice place to eat, mingle and drink. My hard to please 21 year old loved the food and atmosphere and since she will be living nearby will visit often. Parking was easy on a Wednesday night which is #2 with any of us who drive in to the city. Service: Obviously trained. Really good service. I am turning on my suburban friends onto this gem that many of those savvy burbs diners have never visited.

Silk city never disappoints...food is always great and flavorful, and service is always good!! Me and my bf went for brunch and ordered the shrimp and grits to share! We basically kicked our plate clean, it was a delicious meal!!!! Other menu items I would recommend are the mussels, skirt steak and the Thai Chili wings!!!! The cheese fries are also delicious!

I've been to Silk CIty a few times and have always had a great time. Depending on the band that's playing in the lounge, there might be a cover, but the acts are quality so it's well worth the few bucks in cash to get in. The drinks are reasonably priced and they pour a mean lager (yes there is such a thing). Last time I was there, I even smelled the bartenders coffee from the diner and she offered to go get me one from the other side! How sweet. The dance floor is big enough but not sprawling, so the bar feels perfect whether there's 5 people there or 50. The stage is big enough for large acts, but feels intimate when it's a small acoustic show. Check out their list of acts coming up, and maybe stop in for dinner first. I hear the food's pretty good!

Love this place. Great outdoor seating area for Saturday Sunday brunch. Perfect place for brunch and bloody Mary's. There Silk Breakfast Sandwich and Greek omelet were great. Awesome staff. On the weekends they have a great dance floor. Silk City is the place to be for brunch, dinner or a night out in the city!

There aren't many places you can get some good eats and then take a few steps over to the night club and shake you're groove thing. I recommend the chicken sand which with a bucket of coronitas. Be warned though, it gets pretty wild in the club. I once saw a guy doing ribbon dancing in the middle of the floor! RIBBON DANCING. How'd he get past the bouncer with those!?!?

My favorite part about this restaurant is their outdoor seating area. It's great when you're out with friends on a warm summer night. Loved their mac & cheese, however there's not many vegetarian options. They have a nice friendly staff.

Silk city is the place to go for brunch on the weekend. They have great quality food at decent prices. My husband said his Angus burger was probably the best he had ever had along with their natural cut fries. I ordered their eggs Benedict which was phenomenal along with their deliciously seasoned hash browns. I definately look forward to going again.

Okay quality food but they added a mandatory 20% tip for 6 people which is too hefty. Service was awful and I would never willingly tip over 10% for the service I received. They offered us the lounge seating and then tried to kick us out when the lounge got busy to make up for their awful deejay

Terrific brunch! I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was definitely something I would order again. I also shared the macaroni stuffed corn bread ... which had just the right amount of mac n cheese! The service was great as well. My friends and I sat in the lounge, but it was a cool environment to chill and enjoy a good meal.

Decided to hit this joint before a concert at Union Transfer. Its reviews were good and we had driven past it and noticed their outdoor area, which on a long summer night held a lot of appeal. Arrived at 6:30 and got an outdoor table no problem. Immediately smitten by the eclectic decor. Surprised by the cocktail menu (craft cocktails!) when all we were expecting were the basics. Had a great server (Chee, sp?) who was super- attentive, and this place knew how to deliver great food on the double! Our meal did not fail to impress. For drinks we loved the house mojitos and their Yardbird the best. Got the pork empanadas for appetizer, and the beet & goat cheese salad was delish. Their Angus burger on yummy bun came with fab housecut fries, but it was a bit overcooked. Ended the meal with a corn & jalapeno muffin that was just perfect -- not too sweet but its honey puddle on the plate provided the perfect dessert alternative. And a sidebar hat tip for clean potties. We'll be back to this joint fo shizzle!

Party, party, party.... I love Thursdays at this spot. It's a mixed crowd, with DJ Sylo and mostly "urban"music. It's $5 for guys, Free for girls. Only problem is waiting in line to use the bathroom :(

This place charges twice as much for men as it does for women on Saturdays. This is discrimination, pure and simple. I understand that they obviously want to encourage more women to come and then draw in more men on the prospect of having a lot of women to choose from. What about gay men? I have no incentive to pay twice as much to attend, and my female friend wanted to attend with me so we could enjoy the evening together. Are gay men simply not welcome? Get rid of this messed up outdated policy.

Went here on a date, after a recommendation from a friend. The hostess was a bit daff, but the rest of the staff was on point. Leslie, the bartender/server was great, and very friendly. EVERYTHING we had was delicious and perfectly cooked.

Want a meal bursting with flavor? This is the place for you. Excellent way to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning for brunch. The decor is as bold as the favors. The Silk cakes and French toast is a great sample of the flavored. The Pork belly hash was just as great.

Amazing food!!! Like damn! Chicken, mac&cheese, pork belly empanadas, and adult beverages were on point! Amazing cadillac margarita with an amazing bartender (Eddie). Nice, young crowd. Great music. I personally don't pay to dance in a venue though and was thrown off to be greeted with a small fee in the same venue where I'm spending money on food and drinks. Wasn't gonna happen! Nevertheless, I'd come back!

I went here for Sunday brunch with my boyfriend. I went in fully understanding that it was prime brunch time, and there would be a long wait. When we walked in, there was a huge line, but I think there was one group of 6 waiting for a table. Surprisingly, a table for 2 was about a 20 minute wait. We ended up waiting only 10 minutes. There's two dining areas. Its a diner/lounge, but in the daytime, they add tables in the lounge area so they can serve more tables. My bf and I ended up sitting in the lounge area. I really wanted to sit in the dining area cause it reminds me of an actual diner rather than a cafe. The lounge area is pretty dark. It's also eccentrically decorated. I sat next to a painting of a nude lady. Pretty crazy, but it didn't bother me. Food came REALLY quick. You would think they had it sitting out, but I ordered the huevos rancheros, and the waitress walked away and came right out with it. It was hot! My boyfriend's eggs benedict came out about 5 minutes later. The waitress said it was cause the eggs were over poached. I loved the huevos rancheros! The chips were crispy, the eggs weren't too runny. It was perfection. MUST TRY. My boyfriend enjoyed his eggs benedict too. The service was great, the food was delicious. I've been wanting to come here for a while, and I'm glad I did. I definitely want to come back, but next time, I want to sit in the diner section. MUST TRY; huevos rancheros.

The dance floor gets very crowded making for a very fun night. They have a nice variety of djs and live music. The reasons for only 4 stars is #1. One bathroom for a place this big? Horrible!!! and #2. The bartenders are consistently RUDE right off the bat and it takes far too long to get a drink. My advice is to drink somewhere else and then show up for the dancing.

Got there before the cover, Its a really adorable retro atmosphere. The place is part diner-part bar which I loved so much. When we got there it was still slow and we had time to hang out at talk (around 9 PM) after an hour or two the place started to fill up really quickly and the place was filled with people dancing. The outside bar was also really nice and comfortable. You have to exit the dance floor area then cross through the diner to get to the outside. I didn't mind that though since the diner area smelled amazing and the bar next to the booths was lit up by a red light. They really do a nice job making the place comfortable/cute. The drinks weren't too expensive either. My only complaint is that the bathrooms are small/too few and the lines really get backed up. Also, the rush for a cab at the end of the night is sort of ridiculous (but that can be said about a lot of places in Philadelphia)

Always was an awesome spot till about two years ago. Silk was always my go to Thursday night spot then it got pretty ghetto. The djs are amazing and they will have you dancing all night, that's if you don't pass out from the horrible stench of the hood ratchets twerking.

Funky, new american cuisine that seems to always provide a no-frills but fun dining experience. Their retro-diner, hipster style may be considered trendy, but this was their style long ago, and long before their menu was worth remembering. With new ownership a few years ago, and some much needed improvements to the menu, its become a consistent staple in our brunch routine. The brunches in the summer are what will bring you in for your first time, there's a great outside patio with eclectic artwork and sculptures around the garden. In colder months or bad weather, there's the traditional diner vibe in the main room, or a more open space in the nightclub space that's used for overflow seating. Eggs benedict is a classic dish but with a better substitute than the traditional canadian bacon. Also available with crab for a lighter breakfast option. The potatoes served on the side are roasted just till they're browned and crisp, but still soft and tender inside. The French toast with apples & pears is a great dish to share as a side for the table. The Belgian wafffle with ice cream is light and a good compliment to the pork belly hash with it's large salty chunks or pork. Their most famous dish is the Fried chicken and waffles, it sells out early so be sure to put your order in right away before it's gone. The main menu has some great staples on it, but don't forget the daily specials! Come back for a dinner, the food is just as good as brunch, but with the added bonus of amsocial scene that turns your dinner into a night out with the option of staying on after for live dj/music, and a very chill bar scene.

Silk City is such a good time. I love coming here on Saturday nights. I love that half of the place is a restaurant and regular bar and the other half has dancing. And the diner feel of the restaurant is really cool. The DJ last night was really good. The cover is only $5 and the bouncers are very nice. This is a good spot for a bachelorette party. And the bartender manager Jolly is the absolute best. We got there around 9 or 9:15pm and were talking to a table who was finishing up dinner and they all said how great their meals were. So far, I have only been here for drinks and dancing but need to come back some time for a meal.

Absolutely terrible music with no central theme to it or consistency in the tunes played. Our bartender was extremely rude and was drinking quite a bit while I was in there. I saw her take 3 shots in the one hour I was there. I will never go back.

Went to Silk City for brunch and was fairly surprised when we had no issue grabbing a table. I imagined it to be a pretty popular place. I didn't drink (although the sangria intrigued me) but as for food, the vegan options are fairly non-existent. The server was helpful finding something (a modified salad) but I left hungry and had a full meal when I got home. Atmosphere was very cute, but everything was pricey, so I'll only be back if asked to by others. 4 stars because I'm not going to dock solely because of vegan opportunities, and the other people I was with enjoyed their dishes.

Silk city had an awesome beer garden and chill atmosphere. Too bad the service isn't very good. The outdoor beer and food area is very cool. Our waitress was not very good. We had to keep repeating our order to her on separate occasions, she gave us the wrong order of wings, and it was sort of annoying that she kept politely trying to tell us she was trying to leave. If your customer decides to stay until close and your scheduled to work til close- deal with it. I've been a waitress, too. Also, someone in my party asked if they served dessert and she said yes...well can we get a dessert menu then? Lucky for her she added the 20% gratuity because she certainly would not have received that much from us. The food is okay---pretty standard bar food. I think the calamari is great. Fries are pretty standard. Thai chili wings are okay, a bit sweeter than I like. Shrimp burger was good, but the shrimp party itself was pretty bland. The lounge/dance party is $10 guys and $5 girls. I've been there once before--if you're hammered it will be tons of fun. Overall, I'd still come back to drink outside.

So unique and trendy! We came here for Sunday brunch and sat outside and I felt like I was at a caribbean resort with the tiki bar and the bright colors. They had a great food selections and it was very hard to decide what to order. I chose the Silk city breakfast sandwich and it was delicious! My friends had the french toast and an omelette which were both very good as well. I saw someone with the breakfast burrito so I will have to come back to try that. Its very casual and the service was quick except for when they brought us the check they just never came back to get it. Other than that we had a great experience and I'm looking forward to coming here again when im in the neighborhood!

Came here Friday night after bar hoping and I was very pleased with the food and drinks. I really like that the bar and resturant was separated and that the resturant area looked like a retro diner theme. I got the Cesar Grilled Chicken Salad and fried calamari with their spicy mayo sauce. It was really satisfying for a late night snack and great for two people to share!

I know this a very popular place. But the service we got was very sub par. They menu is very small so you think the quality is very good. And also think the execution of it would be very good. Well wrong had to send the food back. Got the bagel platter and the green were brown and wilted. The waitress was nice brought a new plate out. And the green were the same. Also got a side of there roasted potatoes. They were stone cold. I also saw the food runner running plates and caught a few plate that green garnishes or green lettuce on the plate look brown tinted. I would stay away if your going to eat so you don't get sick. If your just Grabbing a drink in there beer garden might be your best bet. You can't get sick drinking beer. My overall experience I will never go back here again.

Disclaimer: This review is for brunch only. I came here with Hubby, sister-in-law and father-in-law for some brunch. We decided to try Silk City instead of the usual Green Eggs because we didn't want to wait in that long line, and I'd recently heard that Silk City has a pretty legit brunch. Well, I can definitely say that assessment was spot-on. I really loved my Bloody Mary. Any time a bar actually has Absolut Peppar, I know I'm in for a real treat. The addition of the cornichon and the pickled green tomato were also awesome. After consulting with our server, I decided on the popular Huevos Rancheros with the optional house made chorizo. I'm a huge fan of all things Mexican for breakfast, and this did not disappoint. The portion was huge and every flavor was excellent. I expecially enjoyed the chorizo. It was well-seasoned and had just the right amount of spice. This is one of their best sellers, and with good reason. Hubby had the chicken and waffles, and he said it was the best he'd ever had. I tried some and I agreed. For me it was just the right balance of sweet and salty. SIL had the french toast with caramelized apples & pears and whipped ricotta. This was tasty but admittedly not something I would order, but just because I don't typically eat sweet brunch foods. If you are into that sort of thing, this would be right up your alley. FIL had the special that day, which I honestly don't remember other than some pretty fantastic horseradish hash browns. If I see those on the menu again (regardless of what they come with) I'm ordering it. Those hash browns were that good. As far as service, it definitely could have been better. It took us longer than 20 minutes to be greeted by a server on a slowish afternoon and the service continued to be very slow for the rest of our stay. I noticed the bartender goofing off for quite some time after seeing our drink tickets print up on multiple occasions. Again, it really wasn't busy at all so there is no reason why I should have to wait 15 minutes for a Bloody Mary. Normally I would deduct more stars for bad service, but the food was just so good I can't bring myself to do that. We sat outside in the beer garden, and I definitely recommend that if it's a nice day. There is a lot of seating, so there is was no wait for a table.

I went there around 9:30 at night on a Saturday and enjoyed there outdoor seating with a group of friends and there Blackberry Lemonade was very good. After a drink or two we then proceeded to the dance area ( guys 10 dollar cover, girls 5). The music is very upbeat and dancing is fun and a good time was had by all. I would recommend this place for people who like to go out to Bars and Dance but don't enjoy the whole club scene. Though a word of caution it is very hot in the dance area so dress accordingly

I really tried to give this place a try this time around, but it was the second time on a Saturday night. It is horrible because the bartenders are horrible with how quick they are to respond to the customer. I tried to close out and the bartender completely ignored me for a whole 15 minutes. I am a strong believer in tips for bartenders because that is the base of their income for their shift, so I left her a tip. It will be a while until I return to this place. POSITIVE: their drinks are pretty good and strong.

What a great outdoor brunch. Service was spot on. She had the sensational lemon ricotta pancakes w/strawberry rhubarb compote. I had the tasty and savory Bees Breakfast burrito. Waitress was cheerful and we were not at all rushed. The result of our experience? (and I'm gonna go full LOL Cats/Cheezeburger here): We can has brunch perfection.

I've had dinner at Silk City a number of times, and made an effort to try different things. They have a specials menu that changes every night, so there's definitely pressure to try something on there that you won't be able to get next time. I've had some great luck with the specials menu. As far as their regular menu goes, I'm in love with the eggplant parm sandwich and the side of mashed potatoes. I'm very picky about mashed potatoes, and the ones at Silk City are delicious - smooth, creamy, and buttery. The buffalo chicken salad is also good, but beware - they do not have ranch dressing, so if you (like me) are not a fan of bleu cheese, plan ahead when ordering. Inside seating is comfortable and the dimmer, red-tinted lighting is easy on the eyes after a long day staring at computer screens. Outdoor seating is also lovely, and the colored lights give the patio a nice ambiance. The one thing I would note is that I don't believe they have the outdoor heaters like some places do (or else they weren't on at the time), so depending on when you're going, bring a sweater. Service can be pretty slow even when they aren't very busy, but the food is delicious and worth the wait. One thing that I absolutely love about Silk City is that there is always parking on the street right out front. I can often sit at a booth and see my car from the window (not that I need to for security reasons, that's just how close I can park). In most of the city parking is a real hassle, or pricey, so it's awesome that Silk City has ample free parking right up close.

Way too old to go here for dancing, and from what I hear, it's gotten pretty lame at this point. I went for brunch with my friend Ryan. We were seated within ten minutes in a crowded restaurant, and got a booth. The menu looked like standard brunch fare, for the most part--so we stuck with specials (also, standard). The usual: an omelet (frittata in this case), a Mexican special, a big, heavy breakfast, and the sweet stuff. We split the Sunday Gravy (two sunny-side-up eggs over pork, sausage, and meatballs with red sauce on grits) and the Chicken Tamale (with avocado, two over-easy eggs on black beans). The Sunday Grave was good. The grits was buttery, each of the meats were acceptable, and the eggs ere cooked well. Seems to be like the meatballs weren't made in house and the sauce wasn't either. I think my sauce and meatballs are better. The tamale wasn't as good. It tasted fine, but uninspired to me. Our server was great, though and so was the rest of the staff. I like the vibe here, but there are better, and more satisfying lunch spots within a stone's throw.

(This is a review of brunch at Silk City.) Brunch reviews are always tough, because I am typically not exactly feeling topital when I arrive, and the food becomes a kind of medicine, which is hard to review. "Made me feel better" isn't the kind of glowing review I want to leave on Yelp. And so while this was not my first trip to Silk City for brunch, it is the first time I've been coherent enough to really enjoy the food and describe it afterwards! I ordered the chicken and waffles. But not just chicken and waffles. Three big pieces of thick, juicy fried chicken, each sitting on a slab of chipotle waffle, smothered in sausage gravy. Sweet little baby Jesus wearing a tuxedo was this an incredible dish. Just a little bit sweet... and just a little bit spicy. Comforting but different, flavors I love in a combination I've never had, filling but not to the point I felt like I had just made a huge mistake. Our waitress (I forget her name sadly) was also the best-equipped I have ever seen to handle a group of eight hung over people. She was all business, and without being pushy got the eight of us to order quickly and efficiently. We weren't so badly off on this particular morning, but even if we were I feel like she could have gotten us in line. I was impressed. I also tried the truffled creamed chipped beef, and it was delicious. Absolutely worth getting. But I don't know that I will ever be able to order anything besides the chicken and waffles. It's one of those. Well played, Silk City. Well played.

Had the Posole Rojo aka a beef stew. Delicious meal BUT $17 for what is considered the poor man's food in Mexico is just a little absurd. At least give me the whole avocado if you are going to charge that much. Overpriced with little appeal to go back.

1st experience: I went to the lounge late one night for drinks with a friend. There happened to be a pretty crappy hip-hop show going on, but it was an okay vibe even though the show sucked. We went over to the diner after drinks. The Mac & cheese was amazing...but I wasn't sure if it was just because I was pretty tipsy by then. We sat at the bar to eat and got great service. The bartender was very knowledgable about the food and able to recommend her favorites. 2nd experience: I went for a Fela Kuti tribute event sponsored by Heinekin Green Room. Any party with Rich Medina is gonna be great, and he did not disappoint...the free Heinekins didn't hurt either! 3rd experience: My mom talked about how cute the outdoor seating area is every time she cameto visit and we walked past here. We finally made it on her last visit. We shared the French toast (amazing!) and another dish...I can't remember the 2nd dish right now, but I recall thinking everything tasted good. We tried hard not looking at other folks' plates, but all the food that came out looked yum! The service wasn't the best this time; the server was friendly (especially, for NoLibs), but she was super slow. Granted, it was pretty busy, but she was terrible at multitasking and seemed to only be able to do one thing at a time. I liked her hipster outfit though! The prices are good for what you get here. I'll definitely go back more often. I'm surprised I haven't been more since it's in my hood!

Amazing brunch. Huevos is good. Pancakes are fluffy. Great prices. Can't ask for anything better for brunch. The thing that blows my mind is that this place is not only amazing for brunch, but its got great music at night! This place is worth a visit whether brunch or drinks. GO!

What a unique place! We came a little later in the evening on a Friday and got a seat right away. Our waitress was nice enough and the white sangria is to die for!! My burger was OK but my fiancé's burger he loved (with the liver moose). As we were leaving the night club half was looking pretty crowded but we were all tired and just wanted to goto sleep. Overall, if I am in the area I would go back but probably wouldn't go out of my way. Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

I won't go anywhere else for brunch! Seriously...it's awesome. Moderately priced, with a wait that usually isn't too bad (especially on Sunday). Such a cute diner, AWESOME outside seating. The staff can be a little on the curr side but it was really only one bartender and one hostess that I had that problem with. Other than that the staff is friendly. Their breakfast sandwich and pancakes are to die for!

Went here on a Friday night with my boyfriend and our 2 friends before going to a show at The Electric Factory. It was getting pretty busy but we were able to get a table after 15-20 min. They have an incredible menu and drink selection and everything is relatively inexpensive! I got the eggplant parm sandwich - AMAZING. My boyfriend got the hot wings and loaded cheese fries - our friends got the 3 cheese grilled cheese and italian sandwich. Everything was delicious. The ambience is great - low red lighting, eclectic paintings and decor - they have an old school diner side and a lounge area. I can't wait to go back!!

I can't really speak for the food--I've only had it a couple times and it was a while back. What I can speak for is the dancing on Saturday nights with DJ DeeJay. The floor is always crowded, between the two bars it is easy enough to get a drink, and the music is awesome. DJ DeeJay is amazing because he doesn't suffer fools, so if someone is acting out on the dance floor, they are removed before it becomes an issue. I've had some of the best nights of my nights at Silk City!

This is our go-to brunch spot! The brunch specials are always interesting and delicious, and the regular menu is delicious as well. I'm a huge fan of their pancakes. The original pancakes are yummy, as are the special pancakes they often offer - lemon ricotta pancakes, carrot cake pancakes, cookie dough pancakes, etc. The service is usually good. We always try to get there by 10, when they open, especially if we have more than 4 people.

So, 2 Ohioans and a Southern girl walk into this bar ... ... for a reunion of sorts. After standing in the lounge area for approximately 2 minutes while the waitress/bartender/ain't-cho-ordinary-hostess girl walked past us 4 times like it's totally normal for folks to just stand in the middle of a music-less dance floor, my chums and I just saddown at the bar. 'Twas cool. For a hot minute or so we sipped Manhattans and caught up on stories and chortles, and then we got down to the munchables--things I know Silk City does particularly well, which is why I suggested it in the first place. Oooh wee, those thai-chili wangs are delectable (!) and the fresh-cut fries (skin on, crisply fried and lovingly dashed with salt) easily hit the spot for the 3 of us. Then we went and ordered the mussels, and that big ol' bowl did us up right, too. Food-wise, Silk City has yet to disappoint me. As errybody in Philly already knows it's not your typical diner fare; it's fancy without bein' too faincy and the price is always right. I'm happy this hasn't changed--I'm not a regular by Yelp standards. However, this was the first time I didn't devour the cornbread/corn muffins--it was probably a mistake. When you go, getcha self one for me. Don't worry yourself about whether or not the co'nebread goes with whatever you're eatin' or drinkin'. It will. Enjoy yourself. And now, a li'l diddy 'bout the atmosphere. It was a rather drizzly Saturday night, and e'en though I don't know how you go 'bout getting one of those high-top tables in the lounge, the bar had plenty of seats and the bartender ladies were the appropriate mix of hipster-aloof and oh-you-look-thirsty-I-can-help. My one buddy asked them to turn from TMZ to the Knicks game, and after a little back-and-forth about what a basketball game is and how the Knicks are not the Sixers, we watched a little bit of the game and kept our chat on. And then--and I'm sorry to have to go Phil Collins on ya, but it's a must--something happened on the way to a jovial conversation. And by something I mean a horde of bachelorettes and the start of DJ DeeJay's set. I mean, it's a lounge so we certainly weren't objectin' to the music and volume boost ... and sure, the tables did scatter as folks started their boogey. (And love is a many splendid thing, so congrats to the happy couple.) It was just hilarious to watch the mood change from casually clothed people chillin' and chattin' to chicks in lacy black frocks push up on the bar besides all their dudes in their M-F khaki pants. We were surrounded, but still enjoying ourselves as DJ DeeJay led off with one good song. I am sad that I can't remember what it was; it was the most delightful setup, because when it segued straight into Steely Dan's Peg, I honestly thought the lounge still held its promise. But then I don't know 'cause I don't have all the answers, but something good went way bad when the TV got turnt off, somebody's daddy sat down in the middle of the dance floor and we found ourselves overcome with Lovefool (from the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack--you know, the Leo DiCaprio one). I'm telling you, when 2 dozen, pearl-clad OMG-ers start exclaiming in unison love me! Love me! Say that you love me? It's time to press on, and so we did. End of this story? We've had our problems, but I'm still on their side--the city is still silky.

I have to be completely honest. I had the french toast and it was really good UNTIL I found a bright orange food label (those cheap price stickers you see at a farmer's market) on a piece of the sliced fruit and hidden under some whipped cream. At that point I was done with the meal. The waitress apologized and just took the food away, didn't offer to replace the food or make something else. She came back about 10 minutes later to ask my girlfriend if she was done with her meal and if we wanted dessert or anything else, no mention of the foreign item found in the french toast. We just asked for the check. When she delivered the check she informed us that french toast had been taken off of the bill (obviously). Then the manager came over and made situation even worse. My girlfriend and I had just come from the Punk Rock Flea Market so we both had pink wrist bracelets on. The manager again told us that the french toast was taken off of the bill and said that it was a pink piece of a bracelet (like the one I was wearing) that was in the food. He was insinuating that I either accidentally or purposefully put a piece of my bracelet into my own food. I told him that he was wrong, there was a very distinct difference between the bright pink bracelet I was wearing and the bright orange label with a price inked on it, that I found. He said, "No, I'll show you, I have the label right over here." He came back with a very shamed look on his face when he realized that I was right and said, "Oh, it seems to be a label, someone told me it was a wristband. Anyway, we took care of it for you." Still never apologizing and still acting like he was doing me a favor. I was very disgusted with the customer service more than anything. In any other case I'd expect the waitress and especially the manager to not only do everything they could to replace the meal or offer something as a substitute, but not argue or bring conflict in the middle of the establishment. My experience was that the staff was very unprofessional. Just because the diner is trying to set itself apart as being "hip" and "eccentric" doesn't mean the service should be anything less than professional and courteous towards their customers.

Silk City may sound like a sleezy strip club, but it's my new go to brunch spot. Ever since they closed Cafe Estelle, we've had to walk an extra block to get our early morning delicous fix, but it's worth it. I usually order the specials and I am rarely disappointed. I've also always had great service. There's one waiter there who we think looks like a young Justin Timberlake... He's awesome... plus he looks like a young Justin Timberlake. If only he would sing "Bye Bye Bye" when we left fat and happy. A girl can dream One thing that I found odd about this place is that whenever they're busy and we come in they always say "Two? We're all full in the diner but we could put you in the lounge" and they alway say it in this apologetic way as if the lounge were a terrible place to be. I actually prefer the lounge! Hey Silk City! Stop selling the lounge short!

We came to this place to pregame before going to soundgarden. I also got an order of the wings, pretty good. good spot to come and pregame, drinks are relatively cheap and service is good.

This is a favorite lunch/ brunch place for us and our two young children. The food is consistently excellent and the menu is varied with great specials. Parking is ample and with the outdoor section open there is a lot of seating.

We had an awesome meal! Fried Green Tomatoes were delicious! Chicken Wings are a must! The thai chili sauce makes it! We wanted to buy it by the bottle! Some of the others items we ordered were Shrimp n Grits, Chicken n Waffles, French Toast and Eggs Benedict. We will be back!

I have loved Silk City for years - the diner part, the bar/club part, and the outside part. It's generally a place to go for things of good taste, music, food, and otherwise. Today I had a really bad brunch experience there. The bartender/waiter dude was SO RUDE. I don't know what we did (or didn't do) to piss him off, but he was rude from the second we sat down until the second we got up. He gave us dirty looks the whole time, was rude while taking our orders, didn't refill our waters or coffees without us asking, didn't ask if we wanted another drink or if we liked our food. After we finished our food, we kept shooting us dirty glances until we paid and generally made us feel unwelcome. Maybe his skinny jeans were too tight today? Or maybe his band just broke up? Or someone stole his bike? Or maybe be got in a fight with one of his 8 roommates in Fishtown? Not sure why he was taking it out on us, but it was not appreciated rude brooding hipster dude.

This review is solely for the dance party aspect of silk city, and I feel so disappointed because silk city has been built up by many. I can certainly appreciate the diversity. There are young people and ... more 'experienced' people there dancing and having a trying to have a good time. The ratio wasn't so bad so long as you counted the 'experienced' folks. I'll bet you the DJ really hates playing Kesha. again and again. The music was so bad I made an irish exit.

Good bar to dance at in the area. Good parking. Drinks aren't that expensive. So you can buy a lot of 'em and going to DelRossi's afterwards. In regards to food during the day, it's very unimpressive. I think people are wowed by the diner aspect in the city. Brunch was heavily salted and the texture of things were not pleasant. The bloody I got was not flavorful. Plenty of other diners/driveins/dives options in town.

Nice looking menu but the food doesn't live up to the expectation. My fried chicken was dry and clearly re heated. Cocktails were mediocre. Thank god the bill for two people was under $100. Not worth a second visit.

The food is above average, but not as good as some similar places in the neighborhood. What really stands out at Silk City is the beer garden. It is by far the biggest draw of the restaurant. There's nothing like having some beers with some friends on a nice night. I've been to the dance floor side a few times. I had a good time, but it was a little cramped for my liking.

I rarely write reviews. However, I felt it necessary to write this, as my experience was so negative that it was difficult to enjoy my meal. My friends and I decided to go for brunch Sunday afternoon. I was 1 out of an 8-person party, though 1 member of our group did not eat and only drank water. As a sidenote, I used to be a server and understand that an extremely busy shift can entail a lot of situations that are (sometimes) out of your control. It WAS very busy, so a wait was very understandable. We received glasses of water while we waited for a table, which was very appreciated. After about 25-30 minutes of waiting, we were seated outside because it was the first table available. I would estimate that we sat for about 10 minutes before our waitress actually came to our table (she breezed by several other times, saying she'd be with us in a moment), and at that point another employee had brought half of our party more water. Already, the group and I were feeling restless, hungry, and a little annoyed. The waitress introduced herself, counted how many of us needed more water, and then took our drink order. It took another 10-15 minutes to receive our drinks (where only 1 out of the 8 was an alcoholic beverage). After this, she would disappear for moments on end. We actually had to ASK her if we could put our food order in, and then waited another 30-40 minutes. The food was good. However, the overall experience made us rush through the meal just so we could get the heck out of there. The waitress was inattentive and borderline rude. Again, I understand being busy - but it's important to be kind and as attentive as possible to your tables; this is especially so when you are attaching an obligatory 20% tip to the bill. The manager has already been notified, so I found it unnecessary to use the server's name. I hope this experience was a fluke, but I can't say I'll rush back to Silk City for food anytime soon.

I have a very high degree of loyalty to this place, as I have worked with the management of Silk City as a volunteer for Dining Out for Life. They have always been very supportive of DOFL's efforts, particularly Joe. The staff has always been very kind to me whenever I have volunteered there as a part of the event, and they have gone so far as to bring me donation envelopes when a patron has left one on the table that I didn't see. The food is very good, particularly the salmon dish that they serve, and in addition have expanded their beer garden and outdoor seating area. It's reasonably priced for a nice dinner after work, and the wait staff is very attentive and courteous. Definitely patronize this business and all the other Dining Out for LIfe locations.

I've only been to Silk City on Thursdays when my homie DJ Sylo spins, so let me write a review about the "lounge" section of Silk City. The sound system is spectacular. I didn't expect such an excellent sound system from a dive bar. The decor is a bit funky, with plastic icicles hanging above the DJ booth, and weird red aura lighting around the lounge. Drinks are pretty good for a dive bar, I usually either get Yuengling drafts or shots of whiskey. Cover on Thursday nights (whatcha doin in a club on a Thursday?.....Bound 2 reference anyone?) is only $5, and the music is awesome. Classics, throwback hip hop, trap, and groovy tunes. I always have a great time when I'm at Silk City. I highly recommend coming here on Thursdays if you don't have anything else to do! Now, all I have to do is try the food...

I need to flash back to 2002 for my first Silk City experience.... A freshman in college out in the burbs, I jumped at the opportunity to go into the "big city" with a friend who had a car (score!). I put on my finest 5-7-9 tube top, along with some facial body glitter and my mini butterfly hair clips and we were off! Although a night of awkwardly dancing to R. Kelly's "Ignition" while confined to the "under 21" section of the club was fun, the highlight of that big night was heading to Silk City afterwards. Flashforward to 2012, I exchanged the tube top for a cardigan, the facial glitter for muted earth tone makeup, and the mini butterfly hair clips for... well, those were just in the trash. My husband had seen the Diners Drive-Ins and Dives episode there and had been dying to try it. We were in the neighborhood so we said why not. My pastrami reuben was delicious, but definitely not something I couldn't get elsewhere. I really, really liked the fries, but I think if they added a homemade fry dipping sauce (like the one at Royal Tavern) it would push it over the edge. The place was pretty packed when the kitchen opened at 5 pm- I was actually surprised how many people were there right when they opened. Just a note- on Saturdays, the bar opens at 4 but the kitchen doesn't open until 5. We got there at 4:15 and found this out. They will let you hang out and drink before the ktichen opens, but just something to keep in mind before you visit.

I've been here a few times for their bar/dance party area and it's always been a good time. If you're looking for dancing with a top 40 music vibe, this place probably isn't for you. They spin a lot of electronic 4 on the floor kinda stuff. Cheap beers, good music, friendly people. Solid late night spot if whatever bar you're at isn't too happening.

Had sunday brunch here with my linesisters. was really good. I got the Silk Breakfast Sandwich. It came with home fries. Very yummy not too heavy. The Silk Cakes are really good. My sister loved the wings she got. I will definitely be back for brunch and to party :)

Awesome brunch! awesome indoor & outdoor seating. Played a show here once and actually made some $$. Packed the room & had a great time. Minus one star for the sound guy being a prick AND being bad at his job. If you're going to be the former, don't be the latter. Otherwise I love this place.

Oh man. This place has an awesome brunch, and is really fun on Saturday nights, as long as you are into dancing and crowds. They have a good selection of drinks, and they play good music. Go here on a Saturday night, and then wake up the next day and head over again for brunch.

This review is for the diner only. I've always adored this place, and was so happy to be there tonight for quality late night food. The food was delicious. The service was great. My husband and I shared a booth and ordered $45 worth of food and drinks, munched quickly and were in and out in :35 minutes. So why, then, did our waitress put a 20% gratuity on our check. 20% on top of tax and alcohol - which is just bad practice. I've always tipped generously and I get it, I've waitressed plenty. But I'm not indulging this crap. See ya later Silk City.

Stopped by here to grab some dinner before heading to a show nearby. It wasn't hard to find with the neon lights guiding me in. First decision: right into the diner or left into the bar area? Left it was. I first noticed they have fairly limited, yet good draft selections. The menu also has some interesting choices and I decided on the Asian Spiced Tuna Burger. It was a delicious change from the traditional beef and chicken selections I usually resort to. I realize Silk City has a lot more to offer with other food options, DJs and their famous beer garden, so a repeat visit is probably in order come next spring or summer.

Oh Silk. Part of me wants to hate you - you're so damn trendy. But... I just can't because the food is always scrumdiddlyumptious! If they ever have venison on the menu, get it! Unless it is the sausage...yuck. But, their venison steak (or venison steak sandwich) is one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. Also, they are one of the few Philly bar/restaurants that actually (consistently) makes my drink of the moment - Dark 'n' Stormy. And, it's always just right.

Its poppin here on most thursdays. Music is mostly hip-hop. Good variety of ppl in the crowd. It has two bars and they can get packed at times. I usually have drink specials (pbr $2). they usually charge a cover ($5) but if u head to the dinner section (make a right at the entrance) it's free. Ate brunch here it was was just average food. Not that of a big deal for me compared to sabrinas and honeys. Smaller servings. Can get packed on sunday mornings/afternoon. Theres also outdoor seating if the weather warrants.

  • Joyce L.

Brunch here is pretty good. Usually we order off the regular menu: cider pork belly hash with poached eggs and the chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles are perfect--the best I've had. There's something about the gravy sauce they use. And the chicken isn't super greasy. Yum yum! If it isn't too crowded, the staff are fun to be around yet still attentive. We like sitting at the bar if possible.

I don't get it. The food is just okay, though the prices are decent. Beer prices are also on the better side for a club. I also enjoy the atmosphere in the diner side...it's fun that they saved a vintage diner and repurposed it in this way with the large outdoor seating area. That's the positive. What I don't like? The club. I just don't get it. They let too many people in so you can barely move, let alone dance, unless you've only come there to grind up on your lover or some stranger (in which case, have at it!) Having separate covers for men and women is an automatic turn-off for me. Why would I want my guest to pay more? And I don't think I'd want to dance with the type of random guy who'd be okay paying twice what women do. And dj deejay? Maybe I'm old, but I think Pandora can do just as well considering all I heard there was a bunch of pop music. Whatever.

Have only been here twice which is strange considering how long I've lived in the city. And I have to say, I'm impressed. First time I came here was to drink and dance in the lounge area at around 9ish on Halloween night cause Dirty South Joe was playing. Great, great set. Awesome crowd. Good mixed drinks. Not a terribly long wait for the bathroom. A little small but it didn't bother me enough to ruin my night. Second time I came here was last night for Valentine's Day for dinner and drinks and unfortunately, all the seats were taken in the diner area so we once again went to the lounge area. A lot more chill, low-key, and low-lit when it's dinner time (around 6:30-7) and we were the only people in there besides one other couple. Bartender was also our waitress and she was really attentive and always asking if we wanted another round. Painkiller mixed drink was good, nice and strong. Good selection of beer and wines. Had the fried calamari and cheese fries for appetizers- both tasty and filling. So filling we could barely finish our burgers. Our requested toppings (bacon, blue cheese, etc.) were plentiful and the burger was cooked right. Nothing special, but still very good. I'm still kicking myself for not ordering their classics, like the mac and cheese and the buttermilk fried chicken which sounded delicious. In fact, it all sounded delicious and I'd definitely love to go back and try it all. I'd also love to go back and sit in the outdoor area in warmer weather. Took off a star cause it's still kinda pricey for being a diner and for the uncomfortable chairs we sat on. I think more "lounge" style couches would be nice. Stupid complaint, I know.

I'm not 5-staring the food here at Silk City, but definitely the place as a whole. There's something about the place that makes me smile....and kills my hangover. With great drink specials, beers, brunch specials and an all around cool vibe, it is simply the best anti-hangover special. The outdoor patio is full of colors and various odd lawn ornaments and the staff is quick to bust out the umbrellas when the skies decide to open up a bit (thanks for that Molly). Head over here if you're in the mood for a semi-hipster upscale diner and don't forget to grab 6-pack to go on the way out. Tip: Try the syrup on the table. It's straight from Vt and good enough to eat by the spoonful.

First, let me say that the food here is AWESOME! We have come for brunch at least 15 times in the past couple years, and the food (and drinks) never disappoint!) That is not what this review is going to be about. We had a group of 5 there for brunch today. Our waitress was mostly, eh. She spilled hot coffee on someone's leg and barely mumbled a "sorry". Then, she was nowhere to be found when our appetizer we ordered to split was delivered and we needed some small plates for the group. We actually had to get up and go ask the bartender if we could have some. She was not around for a large portion of our meal. But, like I said, the food is AWESOME and so worth it. When the bill arrived, we were shocked to see 20% gratuity was already added on. Now - I totally understand adding gratuity for large groups, however, for a group of 5 that got crappy service?! We were shocked by it - and didn't think she deserved the 20%, which is what tipping is all about - correct? We have also been to Silk City NUMEROUS times before (with groups larger) and have never seen gratuity added on. I don't know if this is a new practice or what, but we were really disappointed that we had to give a tip of that amount (not that we would have stiffed her, but felt 15% was fair) when the service was pretty awful.

I love this diner on spring garden, close to BFB. I use to eat here all the time when I lived in the city and they had the best diner food!! They've changed to add outdoor seating and menu additions but the well cooked food is the same! Hope this diner always stays here

The breakfast sandwich was okay. The crab omelette was a bit off. It was crowded and we waited at the bar for 30 minutes. The bartender was very pleasant and our mimosas were great. Our waitress was friendly, although service was on the slower side. The atmosphere was the best part of the experience. We might go back.

Totally reliable brunch spot on the verge of Spring Garden and by Northern Liberties. Summer is the best, their patio is amazing. They have grey brunch specials- the Huevos are my favorite! Try a Bloody Maria with it! The grits are also delicious. Line to get seated can be pretty long on the weekend, so go early or post brunch rush. Service is ok- it can take a while for a server to come back to your table. Oh, and bring ID if you plan to drink. Even if you look 50 you'll be asked to show ID. All in all one of my favorite spots in my area to grab a bite to eat.

If you're going to put curry on homefires....ya gotta put it on the menu and let people know. Not so pleasant surprise, who wants something curry-flavored for brunch?! That said, food came out...cold... within 10 minutes of ordering. It was cheap though, and you get what you pay for.

I went here with two friends and had a great time. From my both, I had a terrific view of the skyscrapers. The lady who waited on us was very friendly. I thought I was prepared for my order when I choose the salmon entrée; it turns out their fish is sushi-grade. I've never been asked to what temp have my fish cooked at, if at all. She was very patient with me on this. I also had their house-made strawberry-lemonade. It was noticeably pulpy, very tart, but still enjoyable. I haven't had the patio experience yet. And it's cool you don't have to go all the way outside to get to the adjoining bar.

Don't get the empanadas, they have no flavor and the slaw that comes with it as well doesn't have any flavor. I would skip out on the late night food here and just stick to the drinking. The late night menu is pretty boring.

Love it. ?estLove serendipitously was a high-light of a recent Philly trip. (That night it was kind of small, but with some room to move it would be lounge-y. Used to love the chocolate bread pudding here years ago but don't think they have that anymore. After-hours round the corner from 2 to 3 sucked.)

Previously I had only been here in the wee hours to enjoy a few cocktails and hit the dance floor. However, this weekend we came for brunch and we were pleasantly surprised. It was a busy afternoon, and it looked like our waitress was pretty swamped, but she still managed to give us great service. We started with a pitcher of sangria, YUM! We ordered the greek yogurt with honey and granola as well as a side of scrapple, both delicious. Entrees included the pork belly hash (yowzas, this was a great dish! Who knew pork belly, sweet potato, and maple syrup went together so well??) and the crab omelet (great flavors). We definitely were not disappointed and have been talking to our friends about it ever since. It's safe to say, we will return again in the daylight ;)

Amazing food. We was satisfied with everything that came out. Above all the presentation was spectacular for a diner and key notes to make for the biscuits and sausage gravy and the drenched chicken and waffles. Not a place to sleep on.
