I searched Yelp and found this place as it was near my hotel. Great pizza, great price! I go to Philadelphia for work quite often and this is the best pizza I've had in The city. I will definitely be back!

Great pizza! Moved from NY/NY area to Ohio where the pizza just doesn't compare. Found Rosa's visiting Philly and the pizza is fantastic NY style! Highly recommend it.

I was excited to hear there was a dollar slice place open in Philly, but after stopping by several times I can say I'm borderline ecstatic. Excellent value, extremely friendly and involved owner, and great pizza.

Great pizza for $1 a slice . Tried it yesterday on their first day being open. No choices for toppings, just cheese and sauce. Crust is thin and crisp.

I love this place! There is such a warm vibe every time I've stopped in here. Well what's so special about Rosa's Fresh Pizza? It's not exactly the pizza which isn't bad but it isn't gourmet pizza. Still at a buck a slice, it's good pizza - cheese, sausage, or pepperoni. What I like is how the cool owner serves pizza everyday to many homeless individuals or people down on their luck. It's awesome and results in such a diversity of clientele from the business people in the neighborhood to hipsters and students to those living on the streets of Philadelphia. And for a dollar you can buy a slice for someone else and then put a note on the wall and then someone low on funds can come in and grab your message and redeem it and eat some fresh pizza right out of the oven. Everyone in Philly should go to Rosa's Pizza every so often...and Bright Eyes should def compose a cool song about it! Hey, this is true "Pay It Forward" in action!

I'm in town from NYC for a conference and found Rosa's on Yelp! Their menu is painfully simple, but this is a blessing in disguise. The gentleman, Jason, on the phone was very polite, told me my pickup order would be ready in 10 minutes, and they were just finishing it when I got there from the Marriott. The young lady behind the counter was very pleasant, as well, explaining their story and how they offer/facilitate a donation program that feeds hungry poor people in the area. She was so genuine, yet not pushy, about it. The pizza was affordable and tasted better than I expected for the price. Simple, but done right and they were happy to do mine just a bit well-done as I requested. The pie is tasty and affordable and the people are very cool. If you're nearby, do yourself a favor and stop in.

What a great concept. Buy a slice and buy one for a somebody who is less fortunate. First time we have had this kind of pizza and it was pretty good. The energy of the place was amazing as well. Made our day.

I appreciate Rosa's concept -- the opportunity to purchase slices for the homeless. That said, the pizza its self leaves a lot to be desired. The crust was burned and had a strange sweet flavor that didn't bother me as much as it did my girlfriend. For a $12 16" pie, the price isn't terrible considering all the good this restaurant does for the community -- but the hunt continues for a mind-blowingly decent slice of pizza in Philadelphia.

This would be perfect drunk guy pizza, but I wasn't even intoxicated. Blasting music at over 60 decibels in a sketchy neighborhood - this place didn't exactly have the warm fuzzy feeling I expected from the reviews and Ellen Degernes fame. My expectations were instantly lowered when I walked in; it has a pretty ghetto feel. I recommend take out - which is one of the problems here, they don't have little boxes or any good way for you to transport slices ( I seriously might bring foil next time). Ok - so sounding pretty awful huh? Well the pizza is dirt cheap - and here's where they get their stars - it has some sort of magic to it. It looks really dull, but i devoured 3 slices in a blink and wished I had more. It's very tasty stuff! I don't know about the donation thing. I didn't catch a sign about it - I left a tip - but I'm not sure that goes to a good cause per se.

Tasty NY-style cheese slices for $1. Crust was crispy and had a great flavor to it. Hits the spot if you're looking for something quick and easy. No frills here. Mason, the owner, was super friendly and uses his business to help the homeless in the community. Customers have a no-pressure opportunity to purchase future $1 slices that will feed the homeless. For every slice you buy for this program, you get a post-it note you can use to write a message for someone helped by Mason's program. The walls of the joint are littered with so many colorful post-its and positive messages. It was inspiring. The walls also display appreciative letters written by some of those who benefitted from the program. It was great for my husband and I to help out a good cause. Mason said that he has donated 3100 slices to the homeless in the past 4 months. As tourists of Philly, we did notice as we started walking to this place that the area was starting to get a little rougher, but it still felt safe in the middle of afternoon. Not sure how it would be in the evening?

They didn't deliver the pizza even after 2 hours. And didn't give a compensation either. Horrible service. I am still waiting on it.

The pizza is decent; good for a dollar slice. Definitely nothing amazing, but for a dollar slice, i'd give it 4 stars. Definitely one of the better dollar slices. But with what this place does with the pay-it-forward program, there is absolutely no way i can give it anything less than 5 stars. I mean giving a place 4 stars is great, but it needs more than 4 stars. The owner Mason is an amazing guy. He took my order and he was really damn friendly and nice. Felt like I was in a small town in the middle of America. We definitely need more people like you bro.

Bought the pork pepperoni slices cost $10/box needless to say great looking pizza and tasty average ones! Added a dollar to donate just a lil concern of the neatness of the place

Love this place and everything it stands for! Working nights and they delivered at 230am via bike!!! Need I say more

So fresh & delicious. Tasty crust, thinner fresh & refreshing sauce, and not too much cheese. Definitely recommend. Great food & initiative in the community. Owner was right there making everything fresh. Cool scenery.

  • Rebecca L.

I know the pizza is only $1 and I know it's for a good cause but the pizza stinks! The atmosphere is also lacking. There is no music playing or anything, so it is ungodly quiet and awkward.

I had the pleasure of dining at Rosa's over the weekend while I was in Philly for the Made in America festival and even purchased a Little Rosa's. First trip was Friday and second Saturday, ordering multiple slices each night. Having regularly eaten late night $1 slices in NYC I was not new to the concept but I will say that the NYC slices pale in comparison to Rosa's. Pizzas were churning out regularly, even at 1AM, and cooked just right; not burnt or under cooked, with delicious gooey cheese. Best part was you could actually hold the slice and it remained flat as compared to the NYC slices which drooped down leaving you with 40% of the cheese on the floor (if you were lucky enough to dodge it). This made it very easy to eat. Staff was really friendly and they even gave me a free slice since the one I bought was a "small slice". The owner loves his operation and speaks with pride about how he feeds the homeless. With so many articles in print and online I'm surprised how he managed to stay so humble! I would give this 5 stars, but unfortunately I found out his mother's real name is Rose, not Rosa. So did he really name it after his mother like he claims? I'll let society be the judge.

For the past few years I've been complaining to anyone that would listen about the sad state of pizza in Philadelphia. Mostly to my cats who don't even eat pizza and can't speak English so I never really shut up about it. My beef was with the lack of quality traditional pies. Sure, you can't jump out of the way of a biker on the sidewalk without landing in a gourmet joint, flipping 12 inch pizzas with toppings you've never heard of but there are times when that's simply not going to cut it. One of those times was following what can only be described as a bender at Movie Tavern. Philomena + Wolf of Wall Street / 4 Steins = a hangover hunger that just won't quit. Sunday morning I opened my eyes turned to boo and said I want a Steve's Cheesesteak and Rosa's Fresh. Maybe the hangover dulled my other senses giving birth to my pizza eye because somehow despite never being there I knew Rosa's was going to be the messiah pie I'd been waiting for. Before I could indulge my cravings we had to hit the grocery store. I lagged behind boo staring down at my phone examining the menu on Rosa's website waiting for the moment we were checking out and I could order my prize. They have an application for online ordering (which I'm told was just launched) which was very easy to use on an iPhone. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza and entered my card information. The total? Ten duckets. We arrived shortly there after and three super nice guys greeted me at the shop including Mason the owner. He informed me that they had just ran out of pepperoni but gave me $5 cash to atone. In all honesty I was in the wrong ordering peperoni on my first go around. It was actually better to get the plain so I could really taste what they were puttin' down. I couldn't wait the 6 blocks to get home before I had my first piece. I wasn't even halfway through my first bite before I knew my pizza eye had served me well. The thin chewy crust was a perfect base for the salty mozzarella and robust sauce. This was actually the best sauce I've ever had. After one slice I felt Nick Cage at the end of Nat'l Treasure. Not only is the pizza amazing it's really a business you can root for. Mason seems like a really great dude and if they can overcome Market East I have a feeling more of these puppies will be popping up.

Chances of me being in Philadelphia and being able to eat here are slim to none but after seeing a story on how the owner pays it forward by giving homeless people free slices of pizza from customers who made donations prompted me to rate. There are very few hero's in the world anymore but this owner is one of them. I tip my hat to you.

    (5)
  • Michael P.

In a world of pretentious, overpriced gourmet pizza, one man wanted a couple of inexpensive, simple slices. New on the scene came Rosa's Fresh Pizza, where our hero found 3 slices and a can of soda, for under five bucks. The pizza itself is pretty good. The crust was slightly chewy with a bit of crisp at the edges. The sauce was well balanced and mercifully not sweet. The cheese tasted real and the pepperoni was the standard thin silver dollar slices. It's not going to rival the city's best pies, but well worth the price. There are a couple of standup counters to eat in, but this place is going to get very busy with the takeout lunch crowd. It will be a perfect place when you need a stack of pizzas for a meeting or party.

    (3)
  • Bob C.

It's a dollar slice, and its good. Service is fast and there is a philanthropic component to the business, what more can you want? I saw some complaints on Yelp about this and that, look if you are looking for a slice that satisfies your wallet, your tastebuds and your soul, this is the place. It is just that simple.

  • Justin Z.

Great food and good customer service. They also help feed around 40 homeless people per day. Great place all in all.

  • Tanya S.

We were in town for a volleyball tournament and took our team there for pizza. We ended up ordering 5 pizzas. They were excellent. Especially for the price.. The girls also enjoyed writing messages on the post it notes.

    (5)
  • Genesis L.

it was an amazing place, full of beautiful sticky notes. Some even had people thanking for all the donations! The pizza was AMAZING, it was just a feel good place. it was nothing fancy, just like your local pizza shop but that ok, didnt bother me

  • Francis O.

I admire restaurants with the sense to focus on one thing, and then do it extremely well. Really good pizza and a really great price! The store atmosphere is very cool and chill. It's a great place to get a slice and talk with friends. The staff is excellent. Very friendly and great quick service. Did I mention the pizza is really good? Just the right amount of a nice flavorful sauce with the right amount of cheese on a perfect crust. If you want gourmet, deep dish, twenty-five toppings, this is NOT the place. If you want pizza, a good ol' slice of cheese pizza, made fresh, this is the best!

  • Robyn H.

Heard about this place via NBC-10 and the Ellen Show, and didn't even realize it was the same Rosa's I was already going to for my slices! I love their pizza!! I'm always waiting in the car when my fiance goes in to buy our slices, and have never actually been inside this place. I think what the owner is doing is a beautiful thing (free slices for the homeless). That just makes me like this place even more.

    (5)
  • Randy P.

I work across the street at Jefferson Hospital and I happened to wander in here when it FIRST opened. Mason probably does not remember me but I remember him very well. He was extremely enthusiastic, warm, and genuine. He told me about his plan to feed the homeless (there were barely any post-its on the wall at that time), and I was extremely impressed. You are making such a positive impact on our community. Oh yeah...the pizza was DELICIOUS! GO THERE.

    (5)
  • Amanda M.

Great slice of pizza for $1. I love the chunks of tomato in the sauce and the thin crust! And the Little Rosa program is awesome. Love the positive change to a rough area! I recommend going just to check out the wall of post-its and the responses from people fed from it. And then getting a couple slices while you are there!

    (5)
  • Tania M.

Wonderful pizza! And the owner and workers are the sweetest people! The Rosa Program is beautiful, little things like this is what makes the world a better place! Thank you guys for what you do!

  • L.M. Z.

When I went to school in the area, I was lucky enough to have this place to feed me for a cheap price. The pizza is great. Then you find out you can purchase slices to feed the homeless. If you're not around this area, feel free to go online and donate. There's should be more places doing this. Such a great concept. Makes me proud to be from Philly !

    (5)
  • David G.

Love what they are doing to pay it forward in Philly! More businesses should be this proactive.

    (5)
  • Ji Eun L.

What are all these 4-5 star reviews. This pizza isn't even passable for dollar slices. The smell alone made me retch. I appreciate the nice guys and their philanthropy but please make a better product first.

  • Harvey L.

Saw the story on the Today Show. You are awesome. I live in LA and haven't had the privilege to have your pizza, but am sure it is great with such a great owner. Your kindness is inspiring.

  • Sara K.

Gave him one star cause I had to give a star to review. So rude I asked if they delivered over the bridge and he literally laughed over the phone! The store was a mile at most two away from my house. Don't order this place! Its is full of rude inconsiderate people! I'm completely appalled!

  • Taylor M.

Wanted pizza to go but was in a rush to get back home. Called Rosa's, the owner took my order and it was ready in 15 minutes. Super nice guy and the pizza was very good for the price ($10?! Whaaaat?!) I'm definitely coming back.

    (5)
  • Mark Z.

The place is kinda eh, but you get what you pay for. The staff was friendly, but the pizza was just okay. The pizza was more cheese than sauce, so kinda not big on that. I might go back again, only if I am in the area and don't want to spend a ton of money on lunch.

    (3)
  • George R.

Great pizza at a great cost for a great cause. It's amazing what this guy is doing. You would think the pizza would not be great but it's better than most of the pizza places I go to. If you want great food and want to contribute to a great cause go to Rosa's. You won't regret it

  • Stephanie S.

This place is incredible. It's inexpensive AND delicious pizza, comes in large slices, and a warm, unpretentious environment. However, the best part of this place is the philosophy and heart behind it. When you walk in, you find the walls are COVERED in post-its. Turns out, people have been donating a $1 to pay-it-forward and purchase a pizza for a hungry homeless person. So the homeless can walk into this pizza place, and get themselves a satisfying and delicious meal, and also read the encouraging and loving post-its splattered all over the walls. I have no doubt there are so many folks who leave this place with bellies, hearts, and souls warmed and fed. Take some time to chat with the owner, he has an incredible story. Thanks for doing what you do!

  • Mz. A.

$1 slices of pizza that actually tastes good?! Sign me up I just might have my lunch here every day - ok just weekly. In and out pizza is fresh and ready to enjoy!

    (5)
  • Steve L.

Cheap pizza that doesn't taste cheap. I don't work in the city anymore, or else I would to swing by more often. With the area of market east trying to upscale, I'm afraid this place may not last more than a few more year :( Also, it's great that they feed the poor. everyone needs a hot slice of greasy pie once in a while :)

    (5)
  • Jake W.

Stopped by for a slice when I was driving through Philly and ended up getting a whole pie since it was so tasty. Spoke with the owner while I was eating and he told me all about the pay it forward program which is very cool. I would come back frequently if I lived nearby.

  • Gilad P.

small shop pleasant service. the decor us crazy - post its all over the walls. great pizza too, for a great price. definitely stop by! I would probably reccomend take out.

    (4)
  • Mike C.

The crust is promising but the lack of toppings is a little disappointing. Friendly staff and the owner on site makes me think this place has potential. If you're looking for a nice pizza dinner you may want to try elsewhere but ok for a quick and cheap slice of cheese.

    (3)
  • Keith G.

Great pizza and it goes to a great cause. Only $1 for a slice and if you can purchase a future slice for the homeless. Very great concept and good pizza.

    (5)
  • Frank L.

The pizza here is good, the owner is awesome, and its cheap, what else can you ask for? Its $1 slice which means $8 pies. They have sausage and pepperoni for a little bit more but even then its still dirt cheap. They help feed the homeless and its a place that you want to stay in business, this is the farthest you could get from a dominos. The pizza is actually really good, a bit thin and crispy with nice thick crusts. Its kinda in a lower class neighborhood but youre right near jefferson so its not the worst, just be careful at nighttime because they are open late. Go there and support his business or buy food for the homeless, either way, check this place out in a city full of overpriced garbage pizza.

Three years ago I made my first visit to Philly and vowed to never go back. Then earlier this month I was called away on business (Gambling in Atlantic City) and decided to meet a friend in Philadelphia for the drive. The first stop we made was at Rosa's Fresh Pizza and the slices didn't disappoint. Only $1 for cheese and $1.50 for Pepperoni plus all the red pepper flakes and oregano you could ever want. Not only was I pleasantly surprised with the taste but the staff was exceptionally friendly. Mason (the owner) was exceptionally handsome and polite and even asked us about our experience in the shop and for feedback on the store. I told him that the only thing I would change is if he played more Rap music and he immediately put the Marshall Mathers LP on the speakers, a surprisingly effective compliment to the environment in the store. What really sold me about Rosa's was the story of the owner. Mason was a former Wall Street Finance guy making his money doing excel modeling and blah blah blah when he decided what he really wanted to do was sling pizzas for a living. So he quit his job with the intentions of bringing quality, $1 per slice pizza to his hometown. This may sound cheesy but I believe Mason does this for more than the pizza, he has a pride for his hometown that he wears on his sleeve and from the brief time I spent at the store he seemed extremely happy to be bringing a cheap and delicious Pizza to the people of Philadelphia. Because of Rosa's I will go out of my way to make it to Philadelphia and I'll be sure to get some $1 pizza while I'm there.

There has been lots of buzz lately about Rosa's all over the media so we stopped by on our way home to grab a slice. Slightly cold slice- you get tomato all throughout and good layer of cheese and herbs. Both the crust and sauce tastes sweeter than any pizza I've ever had. Pretty tasty. If your'e in the hood, hungry, intoxicated or not- for a buck- why not.

    (3)
  • Mike T.

Stuck in a hotel with no room service.. can't find a pizza place open that late which is close.. so where do you go for a $8 pizza and call it a night.. ROSA'S! The pizza was actually good and you can't beat the price period.. It's a no brainier here.. cheap prices and good quality done deal.

Going into rosas pizza today changed my outlook on life! I met a man named James there who happened to be homeless at this poibt in his life. We struck up a conversation while eating rosas great pizza. He told me so much about his life, some very heavy stuff. its extremely hard on the streets, so much so that he was thinking about taking his own life which is heartbreaking. I really tried to encourage him and keep his spirits up, but im afraid i might not have done enough. James made me actually see the homeless as people, not just bum begging for money. Everyones life is tough but i couldnt imagine living on the streets not knowing when my next meal is. Rosas is doing so much good for the homeless community but i feel like EVERYONE needs to open their hearts and help out the less fortunate. I will always think of James and i hope for the best for him!

  • Sam A.

Pizza for $1 a slice- yea! Tastes like a NY slice- yea! Nice owner?- check. Philanthropic approach to feed the homeless- Pretty awesome. I would come back. Needs more options like Sicilian pie. Neighborhood is eh- one star off for lacking that appeal.. Esp that block but for a dollar a slice... Beats NYPD pizza on the other block.

  • Adriana N.

Went here today for the first time and was very pleased! The owner is super friendly and the pizza is both dirt cheap and delicious! The crust is thin and the sauce is on the sweeter side. It's perfect for when you're craving a good ol' slice of pizza, nothing fancy. If that wasn't enough to make you want to go, the owner donates pizza to the homeless and has hundreds of sticky notes around the shop to prove it. Good pizza with a good cause, I'll definitely be back again!

  • Jay B.

Don't tell my vegan friends I had two slices but I couldn't resist!!! Pizza was great, reminds me of the dollar slices I get when I go to NYC. Smart move. I'll be back!

  • Steven N.

Dollar slices in Philly? Sounds good. They're smaller than normal slices but if you get hungry you can get more. They're only a dollar. A little greasy. Cheese goes right to the edge. Thin crust.

    (4)
  • Rich B.

Excellent pizza at a way affordable price.Nice chewy & crisp dough; great sauce & cheese! Quality ingredients. One of the best slices I've had in Philly. Got 2 for $2. One slice was about 50% larger than the other. At these prices who can complain? My new go to pizza stop. Easy to miss, not clearly marked, but there was a small placard outside on the side walk. A few stools. Nice atmosphere;vintage reggae playing, natty dread pon' de register. Became an instant devotee. Can't wait to get back!

You don't need to be around to long to know when somebody is doing the right thing. I am in town for the weekend and was in the mood for a late night snack. Looked on Yelp saw this place had good reviews; clean place, and very modest. As far as the pizza less is more. Nothing extraordinary, just a good ole slice of plain cheese pizza. Did I mention that it's just a buck? And if that was not enough to get you to head that way, how about a good cause to make up for your late night sins. For an additional buck you can buy a slice ahead of time for any homeless individual and leave your comments on a sticky note. Granted this won't change the world but it's a step in the right direction.

Good pizza! Great owner!! Donate pizza for the homeless for a buck, hell yeah!! Support this business!!!!

Thin crust. Not too much sauce. Delicious!! NY style. Simple, Not too many toppings no goat cheese, broccoli rabe etc. loved it!!

  • John B.

Wow. Best pizza I've had in awhile. Who knew it'd be in a nondescript part of Philly and only a buck per slice to boot! Would have easily paid double for what I got. Had a chance to chat with the owner who seems to be genuine guy trying to do good for his community as well as for himself. I'll be back soon and often for great pizza and to support a budding social entrepreneur.

I'm in town from North Carolina for a teacher conference on a small budget. Great costumer service and awesome concept of encouraging customers to donate a dollar so a homeless person can enjoy a free slice. It felt good being a poor North Carolina teacher helping out some poor folks of Philly.

Mason is DA bomb. Almost DA bomb as their pizza! So cheap and amazing!!!!!!!

  • Dewey T.

A few friends and I from NYC went to Rosa's because we know the owner, and it definitely lived up to expectations! If you love a quick slice of pizza, this is the place to go! The crust is thin and the sauce is fantastic! You can't go wrong with the price, either. Stop by for a couple $1 slices or grab a whole pie! Highly recommend it!!

    (5)
  • Wesley P.

Ok. Yes, slices are $1 dollar, that doesn't make it worthy of 5 stars. You can get dominoes for the same cost as Rosa's and it will taste better. Don't be fooled by the 4 star reviews for this pizza place

  • David T.

    Great pizza and kindness

  • Dee B.

$1 pizza. Yeah. It's not life-changing but for a dollar, it's good. The slices have a thin crust which is still ok. The owner was pretty nice as well. He talks to the customers and really tries to get to know them. The employees are also friendly and have a big smile when you enter. Although of course once in a while, you have an employee(s) who looks like he or she just had a bad day.

  • Robert B.

One of the great things about visiting New York is cheap pizza, so I was happy to hear we'd have our own $1 slice right here in Philly. The slices aren't huge, but plenty especially since they are a dollar. The sauce is sweet, with a crispy crust. They are also connected to the community, if you pay $2 it buys a slice for a homeless person. This may become my regular pizza spot.

    (4)
  • Charlie S.

Almost too good to be true. Dollar slices that are actually really delicious--what else could you want in life? They also have a wonderful little program where you pay for a slice for anyone in need. This place is a true winner!

  • Steve P.

I know I shouldn't complain about a dollar slice... but the slices were tiny. I eat a lot of dollar slices in nyc and they are never this small. The pizza didn't look small when coming out of the oven but when I saw my slices, I was quite disappointed. The taste was okay... not much cheese. I really wanted to like this place because I am a fan of dollar slices and because of the kind things they do for the homeless, but 3 stars based purely on their pizza.

  • Trevor C.

I read about this place on philly.com and thought it was a great idea. Always fresh slices that aren't dried out and for only a dollar a slice. This is the best dollar a slice pizza I know of. The slices are pretty small but are extremely flavorful. Keep in mind this pizza is basic no frills pizza but for only a dollar a slice it is very satisfying. The owner is a young entrepreneur and has a really great attitude. He is doing everything right- simple, inexpensive, tasty pizza in a clean restaurant with great customer service. I'll be back whenever I am in the area.

    (4)
  • Ashley C.

Delicious NY style pizza for only $1 per slice! The owner made the pizza himself and it was fresh from the oven. He was very friendly and asked for my feedback on it as well. My new pizza place has been found!

Tried a slice of their $1 pie last Friday. What can I say. Not many places where you can do this anymore. Nice sized tasty slice , not too greasy. Good product for a buck.

Not sure how this place received 5 stars from so many people? The pizza is average, the dollar slices are very small, but worth the money. The owner was very friendly, but the customers there were mostly hobos. Be ready to be pan handled when ordering from this pizza joint.

The slice was great. I love the concept of allowing consumers to pay-it-forward. My office is near by and I am strongly recommending to management this afternoon that any office pizza lunches are provided by Rosa's.

Awesome fresh $1 pizza! First of all - the quality for the buck is amazing! Fast service! Super clean restaurant! The owner comes at around lunch time and greets everyone. He's very proud of the business and said that good pizza, nice people and cleanliness are his top priorities. So far, everything matches up.

Hard to beat this dollar slice, especially fresh out of the oven. Good thin crust and sweet sauce, with a friendly owner and staff to top it off. I sat down with two slices and decided on a third as I walked out the door. Good decision.

This is legit NY style pizza!! Nice crust, good stringy, salty cheese and tomato sauce that pops. Born and raised in north Jersey on $.75 slices, this immediately takes me back. If you're in the area, there's really no reason to go any place else.

Great thin crust pizza. Mason the owner is real personable. We were all impressed and ordered more slices!

The best dollar pizza! Went in expecting the standard NY dollar slice, which I like fine and was happy to see in Philly. But this is real pizzeria quality pizza, thin and thoroughly baked, and with flavorful sauce, easily better than the full price places nearby. The space is bigger than the usual dollar pizza place, which means they could maybe offer tables to stand at, or even chairs. (The place right now feels very bare and new, with just a few stools, and doesn't read very readily as a pizzeria from the street.) But no matter what innovations they introduce, what matters more is that they keep making (really!) good cheap pizza. I selfishly wish Rosa's the best, just so I can keep coming...

Went here last Thursday night before the Flyers game... what a great idea. Not only were these pizzas legit and delicious, but they were only $1 a slice. That's about as good as it gets here in Philly

In town on a combination work/vacation visit, found this gem on Yelp. Gotta love the $1 slice and opportunity to make a difference locally, and ordering right from the owner. I actually picked up a couple of pies, also a steal, and brought them back to feed the family. The pizza was a universal hit with my crew, especially the extra pepperoni!

Great quality pizza, and slices are only $1?? Wow!! I will definitely be going back there. Very friendly staff.

Value, Quality, Service, and Heart. I had just finished a great night at the Philly Auto show with my nephew where I was relieved of $22 for 2 hotdogs, 2 soft drinks a bag of chip and 3 lackluster Oatmeal rasin cookies. 2-3 hours later I was feeling ripped off and we were both still hungry. Our stroll looking for a fast cheap place to eat could not have taken a more fortunate turn than it did when we walked in to Rosa's. I just wanted pizza and didn't even realize that it would only be a dollar a slice until I asked if all they sold was pizza. The owner's face lit up with a smile, and he said "we only do one thing, and we do it well." He wasn't lying. My nephew and I each got 2 slices and a bottled water and my total was like $6-$7. Value. So there were 2 pizzas out one that had slightly toasted cheese: fresh hot and gooey, and one that looked like it was of a more senior vintage. I prepared myself for the usually inevitable, "Do you think we could have slices from the new pie" discussion (or sometimes argument) that has come to be an all to common interplay when I go to grab a slice at a place where the pies are pre-made, but to my penultimate surprise and delight, the worker ignored the dry pie, and served us both from the delicious and clearly more fresh looking one. I was impressed. Service. There looked to be a good amount of cheese on the slice and my skeptical side was getting the better of me. Too good to be true rang through my head like a clarion call to unfounded pessimism: pessimism that was completely shattered with my first bite. It was delicious, exactly what I was craving. The crust was thin and crispy, the cheese had just the right amount of tooth resistance. It had a little bit of oil, but was defiantly not a grease pie. The sauce, cheese, and crust swirled in my mouth combining it one savory delicious bite after another. Quality. I also got to speak with the owner and what impressed me more than the fact that he was a former stockbroker was that he had named the place after his mom. It's the kind of small, but significant thing that reveals the owners passion and investment in the business. Heart. After scarfing down the first 2 slices, I found myself wanting even more. I approached the counter, which now had only the before mentioned, and still ominous, slice of dry pie. I thought for sure this time that, left with no other options, they would try and push the remaining slice on me. Again I have was blown away to be wrong. Instead, after a 1-2 minutes well spent, I was greeted with a piping hot, fresh from the oven slice. What's more, the employee gave up his own fresh hot slice after calling out to my nephew and ask if he was still hungry and wanted another slice. It was like being in the kitchen of my old Italian baby sitter. Good food was love here and they all wanted to make sure their was plenty of each for everybody. I offered to pay for the extra slice and the employee just said, "it's on me tonight." Heart, Service, Quality, and Value. That is why this Philly boy born and bred will be going to Rosa's every time he comes home. Rosa's may have only been opened a few months ago, but the spirit it brings is the one that I have loved about our great city my entire life. Thank you for a great slice and an even better experience, one my nephew and I will have for the rest of out lives.

Pretty straightforward cheese pizza slices. While the food was good, the place really wins itself a 4-star rating for the little things: you can't beat the price, the owner's a great guy with a philanthropic mission in mind, and it's a great spot for a quick stop to chow down on pizza.

We've been at a conference at the Downtown Marriott all week. Last night we picked up a bottle of wine and considered takeout options. After reading several reviews of Rosa's, I thought it worth a try. When we got there, the spartan setting almost scared us away. Walk in, and there is a sitting area with a few stools, a soda machine, one rack with small bags of chips, and then the counter and pizza ovens behind. Really, not much else. And the menu is thin. No dozens of pizza choices, different sizes, etc. Just a few basic pizzas. Luckily, we didn't freak out. We never even asked how big these pizzas are. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, which was made fresh while we waited, including watching the dough tossed into the air several times. When it came out, they tossed it in a box and we were off. The price: $10. The most basic cheese pizza is $8, which comes to $1 per slice. The pepperoni added a couple of bucks. On the walk back the block to the hotel, we stopped a got a carry-out salad from Maggiano's, where we ate a couple of other times during the week. Then back to the hotel room. Okay. Rosa's pizza. First, it appeared to be about a 14-inch pizza. Very thin crust, but excellently done. The crust wasn't soggy, and it wasn't wimpy. Taste was great. We're from Hawaii. so can't claim to be familiar with the best pizzas around, but in ojur opinion, Rosa's was good. It made for a great meal. If you're stuck at one of these Philadelphia Convention Center hotels, give Rosa's a try. They are new, open a couple of months now, we were told. I hope they make it. Because they make a very good pizza.

Whatever you do, don't get pizza here. I've been sick for the last two days from this garbage. I called in ahead of time to make sure it was a fresh pizza. It wasn't. It looked like a combination of a couple pies that have been sitting out for god knows how long. But I paid for it and was hungry, so I had a couple slices. Worst mistake ever, never have I been sicker. Telling everyone I know not to eat here. You shouldn't either.

    (1)
  • Joe D.

The sign outside said something like "$1 for the freshest slice in Philadelphia!" My slice was undercooked and had probably been sitting out for at least two hours. When I'd rather walk a few blocks and spend my $1 at Wendy's, you're not doing pizza right.

I was eager to try this place out but was disappointed. The pizza looks really good but tastes pretty bland and cardboard-like.

I was a little skeptical about pizza for a $1.00 per slice, but I found the pizza very good and tasty. Yes, it is thin crust, but the quality is very good. And, the owner is very friendly and pleasant. I mean, even if the pizza was not good, you can't beat $1.00 per slice. Anyway, I recommend this place for a hot, fresh and cheap lunch.

A dollar a slice is a great gimmick to get people in the door for the first time but the pizza was a bit lackluster for my taste. The crust wasn't spectacular. Crunchy, not chewy. The sauce was fine and the cheese was fine but neither knocked me for a loop that made me exclaim "Now that is a slice of PIZZA!" This being said, it is world's better than the other cheese bread masquerading as pizza in this city that seems to really, really struggle with making an acceptable pie. Kudos to the owner for this attempt but it needs to step its game up to replace another pizza place down the street as my favorite place to get a slice. I continue to maintain that Philly should stick to the foods it does well: Cheese steaks, hoagies and pretzels and leave Pizza to NY.

Rosa's definitely delivers on what it promises. Cheap price but good quality makes for a great value. It's legit. And I've had my fair share of pizza....at least that's what my gf tells me. Will come here often.

I am very picky about my pizza and I tend to be a creature of habit so when this new pizza place opened the chances were slim that I would give it a shot, even with the ridiculously low price of one buck a slice. I work across the street from this place and was very happy with my pizza from down the street even though the owner is an evil Yankees fan. well times are tough you know and a buck is a buck so why not take a leap of faith and go try a slice or two. Well I am glad I did. The pizza was very good, very fresh, and the sauce as mentioned in another review was very flavorful. I will most certainly return for some more inexpensive pizza. I did not use the word cheap because there did not seem to be anything cheap about the ingredients. The folks at the counter were very friendly. I suggest you give them a try, its only a buck to give it a shot. The place is huge though and the walk to the counter from the front door rivals the walk to the ocean from the wildwood boardwalk. Do it anyway. its worth it.

$1/slice. Fresh and hot. Can't beat that. But the main reason why you MUST go to Rosa's is that you can buy a slice for someone else, and that someone is a homeless person. Rosa's generous nature and their mission to feed the homeless is something that I just had to support. It's just good karma. You must go to Rosa's if you're in Philly!

I, like a lot of other people had heard about Rosa's Fresh Pizza through all of the local media attention and decided to give it a try. Plus, I had just moved back to Philly, and have been looking for new pizza places to try! The social justice theme around donating a slice (or an entire pizza) to homeless or food insecure people really appeals to me as a progressive, and an organizer. The pizza is pretty good, not the best, and definitely not the worst; right in the middle. I've had a lot of $1 slices from places in New York, and this is pretty on par if not better. The sauce is full of flavor, nice and zesty and not too sweet. The mozzarella was a bit chewy but I like it that way. And the crust had a nice light crisp but was still soft. My partner and I went in for two slices each and waited roughly 15 minutes. I think it was a bad time (4:30pm) for us because it looked like they were readying a bunch of pies for donations as well as a rush of customers. I still think it was worth the wait though. If you're looking to donate a slice, you don't even have to go to the shop to do it, you can donate through their online ordering system with GrubHub, that's pretty neat!

For $1 a slice, you really cannot complain about the pizza - reminds me of the simple cheesy goodness of the pizza from places like Chuck E Cheese. Maybe I'm making that comparison because there were about 50 4th graders crammed into Rosa's when I went in there for lunch. Despite the average pizza, this place is unique - you're not just here for the pizza. You're here to give back to those who cannot afford even the $1 slices. So when you pay for your pizza, give a couple of dollars (or whatever you can afford back to the cashier. For example, I got 2 slices, paid with a twenty, and asked for $15 back in change. And while you're there - post a fun little post-it note up on the wall! There are thousands up there to give you some ideas.

There is two sides of this place. An ordinary buck-a-slice pizzeria and extraordinary project! The project is an awesome Pay It Forward Pizza concept, it is a heartwarming idea to feed the homeless of Philadelphia and raise the awareness of this major and increasing problem countrywide. The place is simple, not super clean but ok, very practical with 2 plastic domes. A 16 inch pizza in each, a buck a slice! SIMPLE! Yes I had a slice and YES I will be returning. Not because It was delicious, nor because it was $1 pizza slice, but because it is such an inspiring concept! I'm proud to be part of it and that by itself showing the love of the city of brotherly love! Three and half Yelps!

Pizza was hot and fresh. It wasn't anything special but it is probably the best pizza I have ever bought for $1. The sauce was a nice balance of sweet and tangy. The pizza was fold-able. The crust was nothing to write home about. It got the job done. I ended up getting two slices for me and 2 for someone else. I love that you can buy a slice for someone in need. Great idea!! I appreciate the simple straight forward approach this place takes toward pizza.

Eating pizza has never felt so good! I came to Rosa's with a group of friends because we had heard about its amazing $1 slices and pizza donation program. Their pay-it-forward program allows people to pay a little extra for their pizza in order to provide free slices to the homeless. The place is covered in heartwarming post-its from those who donated to and benefitted from this amazing program. The menu was surprisingly limited but that didn't really bother me since that's probably the only way this program is sustainable. Their only topping options were mushrooms, pepperoni and sausage. We ordered a cheese pie and different several slices. The pizza was freshly made with a beautiful thin crust, a delicious sauce and warm, gooey cheese. The owner, Mason, is a very humble and hardworking gentleman. We chatted with him for a while and he told us more about the restaurant's story. Overall, it was a great experience and my friends and I intend to become regulars at Rosa's.

Haven't had really good...crispy crust pizza like this in a longgggg time...Althought the pizza is 5 star's..the over all cleanliness of the seating area is not so good. When I seen this place on facebook, I had to get down here. But as I'm sitting here now, they really need to clean up the place..this alone would make me not stop in again and just donate online. Even though the homeless come in and are able to eat..does not mean that this place up keep should go down

It's mediocre pizza sold by a business with good intentions. I wanted to visit this place because I saw the owner and the restaurant on the news. I didn't expect amazing pizza, and neither should you. It's cheap, $1 pizza, but you can always donate and write a message on a post-it note for the homeless. I definitely support their cause. The restaurant itself is small and messy. Spices are in shambles. There is not much decorations except for the post-its covering wall to wall. I've had worse pizza, so it's still good support for the business.

I was very excited to have finally get to visit Rosa's pizza. Great friendly staff. Not the cleanest place. But that won't stop me from visiting again. I love the whole concept of paying it forward so people can eat a slice of pizza. It's where the homeless can eat and be free!! The pizza was tasty! I love the thin crust. We ordered 2 pies to go and 1 soda, bottle water. For only $ 20.50!! Great price!! It's more than just going to eat pizza. I'm happy to help support the pizza shop with such good intentions and love they have for the community. Parking is horrible!! The pizza shop is located off of Market street. We found a parking garage on one of the side streets. I wish I could have met the owner!!

Nothing much to say, but the best place to get cheap, decent pizza. Depending on the day/night you go, you can either get good service or mediocre service, but I've never been disappointed by the pizza. I usually get the cheese pizza, but I've also tried it with toppings too. Once I ordered mushroom, and was a little disappointed that the mushrooms weren't really cooked and since it was just sprinkled right on the pizza before they put it through the oven, it fell off of my pizza. Other than that, this is the perfect place for a quick thin pizza fix and I love the cause they are supporting--providing food for the homeless. I was moved by the various stories on post-its and papers posted along the walls. I highly recommend going here, sitting down for quick bite to read these, and buying some pizza to help those going through a hard time.

How could you give this establishment fewer than 4 stars?? For $1 pizza and a wonderful corporate misson, I don't even care what the pizza tastes like (it was delicious, in case you were wondering). The tiny place is papered with uplifting post-it notes, and homeless Philadelphians now walk in and are able to get a free slice of pizza paid for by their fellow brothers. Everything is obviously very simple-- with only cheese, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza and soft drinks. The crust actually was really delicious and not greasy like most pizza; perhaps this means each slice was less hefty, but I didn't mind for the dollar it cost and the misson behind its cost. The only reason I docked a star was because the pizza slice burned my mouth ... but it might have been partially my fault as I couldn't wait to try my slide of mushroom pizza that I doused with parmesean cheese! Also I had to wait a long time for my slide because they're used to giving out plain cheese pizzas...and also I think the shop's space could be better utilized as there was almost no room to sit down.

One of my favorite lunch spots in philly! $1 slices and cans of pop, and the best part is you can donate and pay it forward. The pizza is good the cost is great and mason generally gets to know the customers and recognize any regulars! Definitely check it out!

Mission aside, for plain pizza that is only 1$ (toppings are 50 cent extra) you can't go wrong. Service was fast, and it was nice reading all of the inspiring messages. I would go here again for a quick lunch, and would definitely consider donating for the cause!

The pizza isn't the world's greatest, but it's not bad either. Compared to other $1 pizza slices I've had, it is one of the better pizzas. I've heard about Rosa's but I don't go into center city often so I never went. Yesterday I was walking in circles trying to remember where I parked when I walked past a pizza place with a sign "As Seen on Ellen" so I went inside. I bought a slice for myself and a post-it for the homeless. I wasn't expecting great pizza for a dollar but I liked the novel idea of the store and I was hungry

Mission aside, for plain pizza that is only 1$ (toppings are 50 cent extra) you can't go wrong. Service was fast, and it was nice reading all of the inspiring messages. I would go here again for a quick lunch, and would definitely consider donating for the cause!

So fresh & delicious. Tasty crust, thinner fresh & refreshing sauce, and not too much cheese. Definitely recommend. Great food & initiative in the community. Owner was right there making everything fresh. Cool scenery.

I know the pizza is only $1 and I know it's for a good cause but the pizza stinks! The atmosphere is also lacking. There is no music playing or anything, so it is ungodly quiet and awkward.

  • Cori F.

  • Bob C.

It's a dollar slice, and its good. Service is fast and there is a philanthropic component to the business, what more can you want? I saw some complaints on Yelp about this and that, look if you are looking for a slice that satisfies your wallet, your tastebuds and your soul, this is the place. It is just that simple.

Great food and good customer service. They also help feed around 40 homeless people per day. Great place all in all.

We were in town for a volleyball tournament and took our team there for pizza. We ended up ordering 5 pizzas. They were excellent. Especially for the price.. The girls also enjoyed writing messages on the post it notes.

it was an amazing place, full of beautiful sticky notes. Some even had people thanking for all the donations! The pizza was AMAZING, it was just a feel good place. it was nothing fancy, just like your local pizza shop but that ok, didnt bother me

GO THERE.

Gave him one star cause I had to give a star to review. So rude I asked if they delivered over the bridge and he literally laughed over the phone! The store was a mile at most two away from my house. Don't order this place! Its is full of rude inconsiderate people! I'm completely appalled!

  • Jake W.

Stopped by for a slice when I was driving through Philly and ended up getting a whole pie since it was so tasty. Spoke with the owner while I was eating and he told me all about the pay it forward program which is very cool. I would come back frequently if I lived nearby.

The crust is promising but the lack of toppings is a little disappointing. Friendly staff and the owner on site makes me think this place has potential. If you're looking for a nice pizza dinner you may want to try elsewhere but ok for a quick and cheap slice of cheese.

  • Keith G.

Great pizza and it goes to a great cause. Only $1 for a slice and if you can purchase a future slice for the homeless. Very great concept and good pizza.

Don't tell my vegan friends I had two slices but I couldn't resist!!! Pizza was great, reminds me of the dollar slices I get when I go to NYC. Smart move. I'll be back!

Dollar slices in Philly? Sounds good. They're smaller than normal slices but if you get hungry you can get more. They're only a dollar. A little greasy. Cheese goes right to the edge. Thin crust.

Ok. Yes, slices are $1 dollar, that doesn't make it worthy of 5 stars. You can get dominoes for the same cost as Rosa's and it will taste better. Don't be fooled by the 4 star reviews for this pizza place

$1 pizza.

Almost too good to be true. Dollar slices that are actually really delicious--what else could you want in life? They also have a wonderful little program where you pay for a slice for anyone in need. This place is a true winner!
