Only decent during the summer, crowded the rest of the time. Burgers are overpriced, and for what you pay for them you get a shitty bun unless you buy one of the way more expensive "specialty" burgers. The staff is retarded, and the dyke ass bouncer tries to assert herself around any guy who comes, it's just plain annoying. 2 years ago I would have given this place 5 stars, I truly loved it, now it's just loud, crowded, overpriced, and annoying. I only go here when it's convenient now.

I'll get the obvious criticism out of the way up front: I can't seem to recommend PYT to anybody without adding that the service stinks. The place is trendy, busy, and has a fairly complex menu, but I always feel like I'm the last guy in the room to get my food, even if I'm one of the first to arrive. That all said, this place is a treat. The fact that this place gives you a free beer just for being a FourSquare member is a great way to start the meal. The burger menu ranges from obvious (a standard double cheeseburger, a BBQ bacon blue cheese burger, etc.) to once-was-trendy-but-now-is-commonplace (the infamous Krispy Kreme burger) to their Burger of Week, which ranges from delicious to downright ridiculous. Ever think you'd eat a hamburger made from kangaroo meat? Neither did I. The burgers are well-cooked, juicy, and delicious without being too greasy (with the exception of a Krispy Kreme burger, which should be banned in every state above the Mason-Dixon Line). The fries are crispy and perfectly seasoned, heavy on the pepper. The shakes are downright magical, and this is coming from somebody that doesn't even like milkshakes. I haven't tried any of their non-burger options, but there are a few vegetarian choices that are made from equally-exotic ingredients as their cow-based counterparts. Stay away from the special sauce if you're not a fan of mayonnaise. That white stuff dripping all over the photos on the walls? That's it. It's basically mayonnaise with chunks of carmelized onion strewn about. Good for some, but not for me. The decor is cute at first, but ultimately, it's distracting after the initial one or two visits. Start asking questions about the people pictured on the walls, and that distraction factor will probably multiply ten-fold. The burgers are awesome, and the drinks are great... when you finally get them. In their defense, the management is usually quick to help you out if you're in a bind, but they're not omnipresent. They took away their reservation widget on the website, so you might be better off making for an early dinner on a non-peak night like Tuesday. And speaking of the website, there doesn't seem to be any online way to check the Burger of the Week or rotating menu.

No, no, no, no! I've given this place a fair shot now, and I just hate it. The burgers are not bad, and I'm a sucker for bacon laced calories and potato bread so PYT doesn't disappoint in that arena. It's just that I've never had a great experience going to this place. Is it a restaurant? Is it a bar? Is it an excessively loud bevy of frat boys and under-dressed women? My last and final go-around with PYT was a few weeks ago. We walked in the joint kinda late on a Friday night. They seemed to be in full-on bar/club mode so I asked the guy at the door if the kitchen was still serving, he said yes and told me he had a table for us. We were taken into the small dining room off to the left and seated at a 4-top. Since there was only 2 of us that left 2 remaining seats and a half empty table. I guess this confused some of the bar-goers because they chose to use our table as a place to sit when the bar got full and spilled out into the dining room. Once our new friends got up and left people started using our table as a place to leave empty drink glasses and beer bottles. The waiter could have cared less about our existence, people were so close to our table every time they gestured to a friend some of their drink spilled out on me or my bag. Some people are into that crazy late-night bar scene and I don't begrudge PYT for satisfying those folks, but then just stop serving at 10 or make the dining room an open seating area without host allocated seating and wait service. This place has an identity crisis and seems to hire folks based on image vs. competency.

I have been to PYT twice- once for dinner and once for drinks and dancing at night. I enjoyed my dinner more than I enjoyed the night scene here. If you go for dinner (which I recommend you do) GET THE KOREAN BBQ KIMCHI BURGER! OMG... DUDE ITS SOOOO GOOD!!! My only complaint was that the kimchi was very juicy and wet and kept dripping all over my hands, arms and plate and got some of my fries a bit soggy :- / Otherwise, OMG I think it's one of the best burgers I've ever had. My friend got the lamb burger and he freakin' loved it as well, so they really know how to please burger lovers here. Another thing I thought was cool was the adult milkshakes. Although I'm not a huge fan of milkshakes, it was cool to read the extensive menu- my friend got the Questlove shake and she really loved it (I believe there was amaretto and vanilla ice cream in it- good combo). In terms of the night scene here... I liked the outdoor seating areas with couches and umbrellas (it started raining at one point in the night and the umbrellas were a lifesaver) and I also enjoyed the fact that the drinks were cheap and they have pickleback shots!!! Otherwise, I'd say skip it. There is a "dancing" area in the back, but there wasn't much dancing going on. Also, the music in the back area was BAD. It got really crowded throughout the night and I was only able to find refuge outside under the umbrellas in the rain. Although PYT is a chill spot to have a burger and a beer, I'd go elseware to have fun at night.

This place rocks. Hubband and I went there last night because we were intrigued by the Eastern Bloc that is the Piazza and had heard that this place was good. Glad we went. The weather was looking a little ominous but the friendly hostess told us if it started to rain, we could go inside. Service was quick and friendly and when it did start to rain our waitress AND the hostess came over and helped us move our plates, etc. inside. Super nice and helpful. The burgers were awesome. I got the PYT burger with fries (a little weird that they charge $2 extra to switch to fries but...) and Hubband got the Cheesesteak Burger, which was served on a Philly Pretzel Company specially made pretzel bun. Awesomeness. My burger was also delicious and heartily consumed. Side note: they had Summer Love beer, which has been difficult to track down this summer, major plus. To top it off, we split an "adult milkshake": the chocolatebananapeanutbutter I think it was called. SO GOOD! I was honestly expecting to be disappointed and have it taste like a milkshake with booze in it but this thing really did itself justice. It was boozy but tasty. As far as burger places go in Philly, PYT kicks the shit out of Bobby Flay's place IMHO.

I was in northern liberties and had a craving for a burger. Surprise! I ended up at PYT! I mean after all, its a burger place so why not go there? Well this review is for the food, not the bad 'night life' experiences I've had. As soon as I looked at the menu, the Philly Cheese Steak burger grabbed my attention. I actually let out a 'OOooooo' when I saw it, and It was god damn good. I also loved the big ass pickle slice it came with. I couldn't finish everything, but that might have been because I wanted to try a milkshake. The milkshake was good, but I don't think my insides can handle all of the dairy and booze at the same time. I'll stick with the burger and beer next time. It wasn't busy, so everything came at a reasonable rate. It was generally a good experience. I'm kind of disappointed that I didn't give PYT a chance sooner.

I've been here a few times now...mostly late nite in the back lounge and it's not bad. HOWEVER every time I have been there they run out of PBR cans! Is this done deliberately so it forces the customers to consume pricier drinks? Everyone is drinking them and the bar knows this...why not stock up on it!?!? Also there was no toilet paper in any of the stalls, and they were disgusting! This really pissed me off though... My boyfriend went up to the bar to get a drink...paid his $3 and the bartender immediately says to him "I don't work for free". WHO DOES THAT? How does he know we weren't planning on tipping out at the end of the night? Needless to say my boyfriend didn't tip him or go back to him after that. Note--we had been tipping all bartenders all night so it wasn't like we deserved that comment

I've worked in Northern Liberties for almost 10 years before the "upswing" and the Piazza was built. I look at it sometimes as a bunch of guys in skinny jeans trying to be hip. I actually tried the restaurant because they had offered a "Group-on or Living Social" deal and figured why not. To me, if I was going to a bar PYT would be unique for its "adult milkshakes and drinks" but as far as burgers go it was good...-above average-...not great. I've had better burgers at Marathon Grill, 5 Guys and Red Robin Diners....for a lot less money. I'm sorry but I am just thinking that they are trying to be so clever with a Krispy Kreme donut burger, Cool Ranch Doritos burger or adding bacon to a milkshake. Whoa you guys are crazy!!!! On my visit my service was fair but a bacon-burger with fries, chocolate shake and onion rings shouldn't run you $24 for lunch. My server was ok-nothing special-it took a while for the food to come out (granted my burger was med. well). I was finished my shake before it came out. A guy wearing (you guessed it) skinny jeans, glasses and a derby hat was sitting at the counter working on menus when I left-no goodbye, comeback again nor did my server ask me how everything was. If I was younger and trying to be cool I guess I would have liked the place more but I value what I spend my money on now and if I didn't have that Group-on voucher I really would have been pissed.

My husband and I grabbed lunch here yesterday, on what was a Sunday afternoon. We were seated without issue , and our waiter greeted us shortly thereafter. We had our drinks within a few minutes of sitting down, and our appetizer not too long after that. Our waiter, Igor, was great. He checked in with us throughout our meal, kept us informed of changes to the menu, and provided us with several suggestions regarding food and drinks. Although the burgers were not the best I've ever had, they were enjoyable. There bottled beer list was pretty extensive, so you shouldn't have a problem finding something to drink. As a side note, everything look clean, including our table. We'll definitely be back.

American Apparel and Waffle House make a food baby, and then the baby has a party. That's pretty much what PYT is. They have interesting burger specials, and decent beer. Everything is slightly more expensive than it should be, but maybe those are just Piazza prices. In any case you won't be bored. My friend had the Paula Deen burger, which was a glazed donut bun encasing two burger patties. It was...memorable. The adult shakes are nice too. Wait on a friday night at around 7 or 730 was not bad, which is either a good thing, or a bad thing. Depends on how you see it.

I figured I'd start my veggie burger hunt here... since my friend asked me to get some drinks today... The veggie burger is great... the pickle superb, the sauce - nicee .. everything was good... I would have preferred some more texture to it .. but the guy did tell me before to ask for it to be fried.. I didn't LOL but it was still good.. I am not a fan of beer. I don't drink it.. however I do try beer often ( different ones) to see if I find one that I may actually like.. I have yet to find one.. however being the day of all things green I always want to drink a green drink! LUCKY for me @ PYT I sat next to some girls who suggested I try to cider.. and they'd make it green for me =D that made me happy haha so I got my green alcoholic beverage and my nice veggie burger.. I am content

PYT is a wonderful place to eat, drink, and be merry. i recently found this gem courtesy of facebook ads and groupon. i went on a friday afternoon, and basked in the sunlight, with my incredible burger. i had a veggie burger and it was truly a delight. the waitress was very kind and put a lot of the sauces on the side as i requested. (i was feeling a bit under the weather, but didnt want to miss out on the fun). and the lamb burger was exceptional. it had a hint of a pistachio, which balanced the flavor of the lamb. my sick self wasn't feeling the grease, so i got a salad but tried a few fries, and they are super tasty too! i really want to try out the huge onion rings next time, they look incredible. btw, the checkin offer with yelp is awesome! free beer! thanks yelp and pyt!

Alright so here is my updated review. I've been back two or three times since I wrote that particular one and it got progressively worse each and every time. This place is OVERRUN with the hip kids so thick you can't walk to the bathroom. This seems to be the trendiest spot right now so good luck if you want to have a conversation/use the bathroom/order a drink/move/function like a normal person. Good features: Big outdoor seating area Back room for dancing, if you're into that. FREE BEER upon checking in on Foursquare Bad features: Over crowded, especially with the hippest of the hip Not a central location for most folks. The service for sit down meals is horrendous. While these guys are open late at night, absolutely do not go there to eat after like 8pm. The place is too jammed and too night-clubby to get any good food/service.

I had to check out the hype about PYT and their burgers. They make an awesome chicken burger but I think their mix drinks are a miss.

This place blows. The service is horrendous (unless you had Natalie who isn't there anymore) the adult shakes are overpriced, under-liquored and take 15 minutes to make. The food is trash and will leave you with indigestion for hours. The customers are bigger douchebags than the ones you find in old city on Saturday nights. I recommend going once, checking in on foursquare, getting a free beer, and asking the waitress (if she ever comes back) for a pickle. The pickles are phenomenal. Leave a tip and never ever go back.

After being bombarded by PYT ads on facebook and elsewhere, I've been aching to go there and try their milkshakes and burgers, apparently cyber-campaigns work. It's too bad that the Piazza is so out of the way that one have to take a special trip in order to get there, but when you get there on a nice day, the sky was blue with light wispy clouds, the sun is out with a cool breeze, it's uplifting. I'll venture to say that PYT plays a big part on what makes the (relatively) new Piazza district so hip and trendy. Friendly waitresses, late 80s early 90s hip hop music blasting in the background and crowd-pleasing food. I can see why it is so popular. Fried chicken with waffles as buns, double cheeseburger with fried onion rings right inside, these are creative foods that people WANT to eat. Adult milkshakes with various booze in it, it's fantastic. Between me and my boyfriend, we had a Cheesesteak Pretzel Roll Burger and a Korean BBQ Ribs Burger that was on the special menu. The Cheesesteak burger has cheese wiz inside the burger and cheddar on top, it makes for lovely stringy fun when you bite into it. Pieces of steak are well cooked but the pretzel roll while innovative can be a bit much. I do wish there are salt crystals on top of the pretzel roll to add more authenticity. The Korean BBQ Ribs Burger was served with a burger braised with a Korean barbecue sauce and topped with a quick pickled kimchee. It's a very nice burger albeit that the kimchee is on the cold side, the garlicky, vinegary kimchee lends a great crunch in the juicy burger. The whole thing is inside a overtly sesameed bun which is soft and appropriate. I only wish there could have been more spice and more sauce. All the burgers come with very addictive fries and a pickle. Love the milkshake with the whipped cream, jimmies and the cherry on top. Again, people are friendly even though the service can be a touch slow. Food is good, price is reasonable. I'll definitely return to try the other ones.

I love the burgers here! Whenever I'm with a bunch of friends and we're extremely hungry, this is often one of the places that pop into our head. The lobster burger is delicious and so is the blue cheese burger I believe it is called. Additionally, for those summer days, the outdoor seating that PYT provides is wonderful for fresh air and delicious burgers, fries, and shakes. Definitely a keeper :)

I've gone twice so this is based on both experiences. P.Y.T has (had?) a lot of potential being located in the middle of The Piazza, but it falls short in the most basic areas of food service. It's hard not being a bit mean towards this place, but I will keep my criticism short and level-headed. First -- if you have any choice -- do NOT sit anywhere near the DJ station. It's only success is in destroying any potential for meaningful conversation. Please, P.Y.T, consider replacing it with a jukebox. I believe the DJ is a summertime thing -- when the seating from that room can move outdoors, but if it can't be executed well, it shouldn't be. Second -- the food is mediocre at best. You can easily pay the same price for a burger with more interesting flavors. Third -- a necessary for any establishment is timely service. Since you've got a young funky thing going -- maybe servers on roller skates would help speed things up. Fourth -- if you're going to rely on the popularity of the adult milkshakes (which are, in fact, quite delightful) then perhaps re-conceptualizing the business might be in order. Actually, with a jukebox, servers on skates and spiked milkshakes, you'd do well becoming a grown-up soda fountain.

Are you ready for a rant?.... I have to get this off my chest. Food: 3 stars I guess "West Coast Style Burgers" means copy In 'N Out Burgers. Anyone who has had In 'N Out would not object to PYT's burgers but probably wouldn't be very impressed. I wasn't very impressed. Service: 3.5 stars Nothing special but still attentive and fast. To the "Promoter" of the restaurant... I called him the PYT Mascot... Please stop dancing around. You can't dance and no one wants to look at you. You're arrogant. Ambiance: 2.5 stars The patio makes the restaurant 2-3 times as big. The restaurant is desperate to encompass the California vibe but their furniture is ugly and their stained couches and kiddie pool are ridiculous. The mechanical bull is a nice touch, though. But when you realize that you are sitting blocks away from the I-95 and those notorious Northern Liberties hipsters are laughably mimicking what they envision as "California trendster", you start tripping out. Its just a fake and lame vibe. Price: 4 stars Keep an eye out for the Group-On Discount Locations: 2.5 stars The Piazza is a joke. I'm impressed that someone had a vision but when something is forced, there is no getting around it. The Piazza is perfect if you are a rich post college student still living off Mom and Dad or a very young family (still not the best environment for a family). There is no water, there is no cool breeze... its Northern Liberties. The California theme fits in like a razor covered square peg in a round hole. Overall: 2.5 stars The food is alright. Nothing spectacular. The price with the Group On is good. The ambiance and people in the restaurant are SUPER TRY-HARDS and just pissed me off. I will not go back.

I was only here once, and I don't remember anything about the food because the crowd sucked so bad that I decided to get hammered on adult milkshakes. I don't remember complaining about the burger, so I'm guessing it's good. The boozeshakes however are AMAZING. I'm tried something with whiskey and I think peanut butter. It was glorious. The service was meh at best. The staff was more concerned with talking to each other than the customers. The overall atmosphere of the place was pretentious hipster at it's finest. Prepare to be surrounded by waves of non-prescription glasses, ironic moustaches, and girls with ugly haircuts trying to be "edgy". Also, don't come here when it's naked bike ride time. It's the same people, but now they're nude and their junk probably touched the seat you're in.

I haven't tried the burgers but from all the reviews.. I will have to try it! My friends and I stopped by here before going to the popped concert this past weekend. Their beer selection is better than the other bars around. This statement is biased as I wholeheartedly favor Strawberry wheat beer and Victory headwaters over other beers. Yes, they have those and that is why I like this place. :D The bartender was nice and friendly and so was the hostess. The hostess was very accommodating and even though she said the tables outside was for guests who planned to order food, not just drinks, she said it in such a darling manner that I wasn't even angry about being "rejected" a table. If you're with a group of friends on a sunny afternoon, go here and drink beer and be merry!

  • Kaynaz M.

This place makes me so angry. Their service is so bad that it makes me never want to even look at this place. I used to go here all the time for burgers and they are tasty burgers. However, the servers always ignore you when you walk in looking for a table. They think they're too good to talk to you and just stare at you with a look that says "what r Uuu doing here". Then they act like you're an inconvenience when you're in the restaurant dining and they're always more concerned with talking to each other or their friends. I've given so many chances, and its all of them. T make matters worse, they came out with an automatic 20 percent gratuity regardless of how small or big your table is. Their service was bad enough, and now they are automatically getting a good tip? Can't imagine how bad they are now. Also, don't do pickup. The burgers are always overcooked with a tiny sliver of cheese that's not even melted in. Too bad that the servers are ruining this good burger joint.

Have been here twice now. Stopped in today during the Summer Block Party for a beer. They had four beers on draft, only one of which was a microbrew, so my choice was very limited and therefore (and unfortunately) very simple. After getting my first beer, I checked in on Yelp and got a check-in reward for one free draft beer. So, after I finished my first beer I went back to the bar to redeem my perk. When the bartender came over I held up my phone and before I could even get a word out of my mouth, she says "You can't use that while there's a concert outside", turns, and walks away without a moment's pause. What??? First of all, there is no fine print on this Yelp reward that says there are restrictions on when it can be used. But fine, I understand that you're busy and there's an event going on - whatever. Secondly, and most important, I STILL WANTED A BEER! She didn't even give me a chance to order and pay for a beer, which I would have done had she not completely dismissed me and walked away. There are plenty of bars in Northern Liberties, and a lot of them have better service and a better selection of beer and food than PYT. And if you aren't going to honor your Yelp rewards, then don't freakin' offer them. I won't be back.

The menu is full of interesting and ambitious flavor combinations when you read through it it is so difficult to choose. Fear not, no matter what you choose it will be adequately prepared, but not with flare. All of the comments about the indifferent service delivered at a sail's pace are true. I'm sure it's a great place for neighborhood regulars, but not worth traveling for. Outside seating is dog-friendly.

I decided to try pyt after hearing so much good things about it, but in reality this place SUCKS. The food is okay, but it took like about an hour and half for our burgers to come out, and it wasn't even busy!!! Our waitress took FOREVER! Look like everyone was pissed off because she kept messing up people's orders. THIS PLACE IS THE WORST!

I've been to PYT quite a few times and usually, I don't have any issues. Decent enough food and yummy delicious milkshakes...However, my most recent trip was a disaster. It was a Friday night and it was packed - about a 30 minute wait for a table outside. Fair enough. They put my name in their little ipad app and said they would text me once my table was ready - very cool. We sat at the bar, had a drink and decided what we wanted. A little before 30 mins, text received. Table ready. Once we were seated, our waitress came over pretty quickly and took our drink and food orders...our waters and drinks came quickly thereafter. We enjoyed the summer evening chatting away and people watching. We realize it's been awhile since we've ordered, or seen our waitress for that matter...30 minutes later...no food....or waitress....45 mins...still nothing...an hour later we flagged down the waitress and she tells us sorry the kitchen was backed up...Really? WE ORDERED BURGERS. How backed up can they really be? She acts as if we are being a nuisance - she literally told us it hadn't been an hour, closer to 45 minutes. Umm, yes honey, it has....see this text message where you told me my table was ready? That came in an hour and 15 mins ago so yeah...it's been awhile. Even if it was 45 mins, that's too darn long to wait for burgers! We ask to speak to a manager who was somewhat apologetic but I felt like she could really care less that we'd been waiting that long. She did take 30% off our check which I suppose was ok. It wasn't really about the money...I'll probably be back for drinks/fun/sports watching....doubt I'll have food from them anytime soon. Oh our food - I had sliders...I ordered medium, I got well done. They also effed up my friends order...So after an hour+ wait our order was still wrong which made it taste bad. Once our checks finally came, the waitress runs our card and brings back the receipts with no pen.

This place is nestled in a condo community and open courtyard that is bustling with activity. A good place to go on a warm day and hang out and people watch. we sat outdoors at a table with an umbrella. This review is only for drinks and service, as we did not eat here. The menu was reasonable and they had a wide selection of beers. We got pitchers of hefeweizena nd they were $12 each. Not bad...the service was average and crowd very hipster and trendy. All in all, a great place to check out in Northern Liberties if you're tired of the usuals.

i had to take some time to really think about the rating i would give pyt. the burgers i have had here are decent, nothing that wowed me. fries are... well fries. onion rings are not always consistently made well, sometimes they are just too greasy or batter is falling off. and then there were times when they had the 20% auto gratuity which was definitely not earned when it was applied to my bill. ironically enough, when they don't have the 20% gratuity (last two times i was there it was not on my bill), they actually earned it. the biggest reason for the bump up from what i would normally rate as 3 stars to 4 are the milkshakes. of all the places to get milkshakes in no libs, pyt hands down is the best milkshake i have had. the consistency is not too heavy and creamy, but not too watery, perfect amount of flavor be it a peanutbutter, banana, or chocolate (or sometimes in my case all three flavors together). the giant straws are a plus.

Who can deny a great burger?! I know not me. I came here on a Sunday night and was pleasantly surprised the ambiance and how chill the whole place was. The burger of the week was the Twinkey burger (deep fried) that day which is a bit much for my honestly but it certainly wasn't the case for other people. We started with buffalo chicken waffle fries. You can't go wrong with waffle fries - if you hate fries, then that's OK but if you hate waffle fries, that's a crime. No problems with these buffalo chicken waffle fries! I ordered the Philly cheesesteak pretzel burger and my other foodie friend ordered the Twinkey burger. I would very much prefer the philly cheesesteak burger with a pretzel roll (again, how could you go wrong with a pretzel roll?!). The meat was juicy and tender and did I mention it was on a pretzel roll?? The Twinkey burger was a slightly different story...it was deep fried to the max - fair food for sure. It was great but really greasy a bit heavy on the stomach. By the end of the meal, I couldn't handle the waffle fries on my own plate because of how greasy everything was. However, burgers and grease are best friends so no complaints there! Overall, I would LOVE to come back here again and enjoy more of their burgers!

The concept behind PYT is great. I got the cheesesteak burger, and it was delicious. The problem was that I, along with the three other people I was with, had to wait over an hour for our food. Nobody ordered anything out of the ordinary.. just some basic burgers with some basic toppings that didn't need to be retrieved from opposite ends of the Earth (although it seemed that way). Ive read other reviews, and like its said in the other reviews, all checks have gratuity automatically added, so the servers work at their own pace, and that pace is kind of slow. Would I go back? No. Was the burger good? Yes the end.

In the words of Michael Jackson's aptly named song "PYT", "I Want To Love You (P.Y.T.) / Pretty Young Thing / You need some lovin' (T.L.C.) / Tender lovin' care / And I'll take you there...Hee-EE hee" I started by saying/singing that because as much as I want to love PYT, this place is not consistently up to par in terms of management and actual food service. I've come here multiple times and it's hit or miss, however it's always a miss in terms of service. This St. Paddy's Day 2011 was the worst experience by far. My friend and I both ordered a medium PYT burger, her's no lettuce, mine with everything and tots on the side. Our food arrived 25 minutes later, however what she got was a well-done PYT burger, no lettuce, with a blond hair in it :( If I order your signature burger, why does it take ~30 minutes to get it? I mean yea, the burger is good but it's not that difficult of a burger to make. So anyway our server, who mentioned that it was her first night there, took "it" away and 20 minutes later another well-done PYT burger, no lettuce, arrived. The Perez Hilton look-a-like manager (we even told him this to his face which he seemed pretty amused about), came over and apologized and offered us a free round of drinks. 5 mins go by, 10 mins go by, 20 mins go by and still no free drinks so I took that as maybe he wasn't that sorry. Never one to just give up, I complained once more and we eventually got our drinks. This place has so much potential and I like the concept, the vibe and most of the other patrons so much that I almost feel bad for that night going the way it did, but honestly I'm just disappointed that this place hasn't gotten it together by now. A little attention to detail and a lot of attention to customer service goes a long way!

If I lived in Philly, I would probably be a regular here. A friend brought me here while I was visiting from the Baltimore/Washington area and promised that the burgers were amazing and that there were alcoholic milkshakes. Twist my arm. I was planning on getting the cheesesteak burger, but they had a Korean BBQ burger on the special menu, in which the short rib burger was marinated like bulgogi and topped with kimchi and spicy mayo. I couldn't resist and was glad that I didn't... it was fantastic. I am pretty much going to refuse to eat burgers without kimchi from this point going forward. My friend got some sort of burger with fried pickles on top and a "pickle shot" which consisted of a shot of whiskey and a shot of pickle juice to chase. The waitress assured him that this shot was imperative to completing the pickle experience. The spiked milkshake menu is pretty awesome. I got the "Jack Rabbit Slim" (chocolate or vanilla ice cream with whiskey) solely because of the Pulp Fiction reference. It was good, but take note, the taste of whiskey does not blend well and I could definitely differentiate between two tastes: ice cream and whiskey. If you are a big fan of whiskey, this might be the shake for you. The other milkshakes ordered at the table, which were mixed with bourbon, blended much more nicely. The cookie monster was my favorite. The indoor area of the restaurant is small and there was a 40-minute wait to get in. It was hot out, so we were able to be seated outside immediately. The music was loud but appropriate for a Friday night. The staff was all very friendly and the food was good. I was told the kitchen's open until about 1am, which would make this place idea for a late night meal. I will definitely return the next time I'm in the Philly area!

Just got the Han Dynasty burger. Definitely don't go by the picture for what you get. Our burgers (there were 3 of us that all got the Handy Nasty) all had a tiny tiny dab of aioli and about 6 minuscule cucumber tips. The flavors were all there but they really skimped on the toppings, making it all pretty dry. About 2 bites had all of the flavors. 2 great bites out of about 12...

For a place that prides itself on burgers, they don't even have the best burger place in the neighborhood. The burgers I have gotten here have been over done and quite frankly weren't that good. The ones that do sound good they never have! They are always running out of their specialty burgers. One visit my friend ordered a burger and added bacon. They only gave him one slice. That's a crime. Any respectable burger joint knows that there is a two slices of bacon minimum (especially if you are paying extra). When we asked out waiter about it their response was "that's how we do it". I have also had bad service here too. I've had to go to the bar get refills of water, they left empty appetizer dishes on the table the entire meal and don't check in for long periods of time. The idea of this place is great but it's execution is subpar.

This place is terrible. It starts with the owner TommyUp and goes right on down to the line cooks. First off...the food is overpriced for what it is. I just got out of a year lease at The Piazza and I can honestly say that in that year I saw a gradual decline in not only the quality of the burger's, but also the size of the sides (fries). My personal biggest problem, in addition to what everyone on Yelp mentions about the servers just not caring at all...are the fact that "TommyUp" allows them to wear tank tops while serving!!!!!!! Again....tank tops while serving. This includes the male servers people! If there is one thing that I'd rather not look at when giving my order to a lackadaisical server its his pit hair jetting out from his Smiths Tank Top. Now like I said earlier...I lived a year at the Piazza...so I have a very good pulse about this place. I literally saw the place every.single.day . The shooting and unfortunately ... the murder that occurred on the morning of the 11th is by no means a shock. Tommy has done nothing to quell the loitering right outside his restaurant by these thugs. Hell...they have even added a old yellow Winnebago to serve drinks outside. (P.S. the Winnebago looks like a P.O.S, and in my opinion is an eye sore for the complex). If they wanted to get rid of the clientele that are causing these nightly scuffles and shootings...they can do so. However Tommy is willing to sacrifice this so that his pockets are a little fatter. Hey Tommy, remember when you had to institute the mandatory 20% gratuity? You think that may be because of the clientele you open yourself up to? The very same clientele that are now causing you a world of problems? Think about it....fix it...or seriously...just get out.

Two words: Adult Shakes. Delicious options. The burgers were great, but I was disappointed that there wasn't a falafel option for the non-meat eaters. The menu for the burgers is extensive, and pretty much covers all toppings that a person can imagine. Great late-night drunk munchie location.

Um.. Well, I've heard a lot of ranting and raving about this place. I even had a classmate in college who actually redesigned PYT's menu for them, and he eventually started working for them for a short time. That's love, right there... But coming from me? I'm not feeling it. I think it's neither great nor horrid. It just is.

I ate here on a nice summer evening. We were seated right away outside, but from there the service went downhill quickly. It took a while for a server to come over to us. By this point everyone had decided on both drinks and meal selections. After ordering, it was a long wait for the food. I was surprised because everyone in my group of 5 ordered the basic PYT burger. It was impossible to get the server's attention for drink refills. The server was very nice, but not attentive at all. We had to flag him down when we needed anything. Even for the bill. When the burgers came we all were pleased with them. However, I do not plan on going back due to the slow service. There are plenty of other great burgers in a one mile radius. We all felt cheated that the 20% tip is added on automatically. It feels like the servers get a free pass to not pay attention. Also, the beer selection is minimal.

I am disappointed with this place. While the burger was damn tasty... er at least the sauce that it was drowning in was tasty. Everything else falls on its face. The fries are nothing special, and the onion rings are a disgrace. This saddens me because they are a guilty pleasure that I only indulge in once in a blue moon. So when I do order them I generally expect a flavor beyond the oil it was fried in. They are supposedly beer battered but said batter is completely flavorless, aside from sponging up all the oil from the fryer. Also they were cooked to the point of the onions inside turned into dry strings. The adult shakes are a joke and a gimmick to charge more. I have had dollar store liqueur candies with more booze in them. To top this all off everything is over-priced for what it is. The staff are a rag-tag bunch who are hard to tell apart from the rest of the hipsters there. Lastly they need to get their sh*t together with the hostess mess. We came in, it was packed, we expected a wait, but were staring at a open, clean, two top table. The SO and I were give an hour wait time and after giving our # for them to call us we wandered off because the bar area was too packed. So fast forward to an hour later we get a call, our table is ready. Guess were we get sat, yup the empty two top that was open an hour ago! I wish that was then end of the waiting but no. We waited on our waitress to grace us with her presence. We waited on drinks, we waited on our burgers for over an hour. People who came in after us got their food before us. WTF! I would have complained but it was a lost cause since our waitress was no where to be found and she would not have been able to hear our cries anyway the music & noise level is so high. I know you want to be hip PYT and play the 80's & 90's music to appeal to my age group but cranking it up like you are a night club is annoying.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Its a trendy bar, fun to hang out, they have lots of seating. The service is very friendly but a bit on the slow side. The problem I have is with the food its Meh.. Burgers are just ok, kinda small and kinda expensive. I did love the special wasabi sauce though

This place was very creative with their burgers menu and the burgers were cooked perfectly to order. The atmosphere was college bar like. This is not a bad thing. The bar area was lively and music was very loud. I would not bring the family but this was great for date night as we sat at the bar to be in the middle of the action. Plus sitting at the bar avoids the 45-60 minutes wait as there did not seem to be many tables. I saw a lot of outside seating, so perhaps the wait is less in the Summer months. I would recommend a visit and enduring the wait for the bacon taco alone.

Good food, good milkshakes, but hot damn this place looks like it hasn't been cleaned since it was built. White chairs are black from dirt, Lower wall corners are dirty and dusty. This was the first we noticed and we eat out a lot! Cleanliness In a restaurant is a MUST.

I would have liked to give it more stars, but...I just couldn't. Let me just say that the service was perfect. I came on a Saturday at 12:00 and was immediately seated. The waitress was great about everything and really helpful. She refilled my Diet Coke, even when it wasn't completely empty. The reason it's getting 3 stars, is because of the burger. I ordered the lobster burger, because I had heard good things about it, but...well, to be honest, the flavor combinations probably worked, but it was so poorly executed, that I couldn't tell. I ordered it rare...but it came out well done. The waitress apologized a million times and had them remake it, but the second time it was cooked medium well. I mean, if 90% of your menu is burgers and you cook the same thing all day long...I would have thought you'd have perfected it. .

My friend from LA was visiting and we were in the mood for burgers, so I decided it would be a good time to try out PYT. Mind you, LA is home to 25 Degrees (at the Roosevelt), which has incredibly delicious burgers, so our bar was already set fairly high. Yes, it is packed with hipsters. And I mean PACKED. It was a Sunday afternoon, not even happy hour, and the place was electric. We placed an order for takeout and finagled a table outside, but the bartender who took our order was awesome and delivered us our food instead. Totally unnecessary and unexpected, so a huge thank you to him. He also recommended what burgers to get. Korean BBQ Short RIb burger - who knew kimchi could work on a burger? It was a great contrast of temperatures and textures, and the spicy mayo was delicious. I honestly couldn't tell it apart from a regular beef patty, but it was juicy and overall, not a bad choice (if you like kimchi). Not sure if I'd order it again, as their menu is totally intriguing. Lobster Burger - THIS IS BEYOND. The best thing about it is that the lobster doesn't overpower the beef and vice versa. You taste everything. The truffle aioli was a smooth touch and very pleasant. I can't describe it...it was beyond. The fries are awesome and I feel like they purposely let some of your burger sauce spill onto the plate for dipping. Maybe a little pricey, but worth it.

I will say is, Tommy Up is the freaking Willy Wonka of burgers. I had a Country Fried Burger with sausage gravy and pickled green tomatoes. YU-FREAKING-UM!! Sadly, the only reason why I give this 3 stars is due to the service. I went there with 3 friends, and the place was empty. Yet, it took the waitress over 10 min to greet us and take our drink order. Then took her longer to take out food order. I will return

So my friends from NYC [note: 1 was gay, 1 is a punk skater, 1 only listens to rap, 1 is just a fool] came down for memorial day weekend and after attending a Red Bull open bar type thing we decided to hobble over a few blocks to PYT at the behest of one of her coworkers. One of the best decision we could've made. I could write many things but I'll keep it short: the back room is dancing heaven. high turnover rates but awesome music (dubstep, dancey, pop, rap, good shit). ghost world was playing in the background. $2 PBRs and $3 mixed drinks aka drink specials are BANGIN. shots were a bit pricey but that's cuz i love jameson. If you don't know what to do on a saturday night, come here and get sweaty. the backroom's walls are velvet. need i say more?

I've heard great things about this place, so I was excited to finally try it last Saturday. We went for dinner around 5:45 (because apparently we're senior citizens) and there was already a 30 minute wait! It might have been because it was gorgeous outside and there were lots of people out in the Piazza. I've heard mixed reviews about PYT, some people saying their burgers are awesome and some saying they were fast-food like. I ordered the lobster burger off the specials menu, at the fair price of $14. When it came out it had a generous amount of lobster on top, with lemon aioli on an egg bun, and a ton of old bay fries. It was really, really good. The burger was juicy and flavorful, although I couldn't really taste the lobster bc the meat overpowered it. I also got to enjoy this gourmet meal with a complimentary draft of the champagne of beers, courtesy of Yelp check ins. Decided not to try the "adultshakes" since in my book mixing dairy with alcohol is just asking for trouble. The back room has a bar and is fun/slightly creepy if you're in the area at night! It's also cash only (just the back room, the rest takes cards).

Well for starters this place has decent burgers. But they aren't anything I would go out of my way for again. I have been here twice. Both times the service was terrible. Both times my food took over 45 minutes to come out. The staff was never around when I needed a napkin or a refill on my drink. All in all ... this place is overrated and not worth a 3rd trip.

The big draw for me was the adult milkshakes. I had the cookies and creme one, which includes vanilla vodka, irish cream, and crumbled oreos. It was even better than I expected. The shake was really thick, and I could taste a hint of the booze in it ($10 price tag totally justified). I tried my date's jack rabbit slim shake, consisting of chocolate ice cream and bourbon... and that was a strong shake. Very noticeable bourbon flavor. Since it seemed irresponsible to have only a milkshake for dinner (and a milkshake full of alcohol, at that), we ordered burgers too. I had the PYT baby cheese burgers, which were basically sliders, and they were very good. While we were there, we kept noticing the fun 80s music playing in the background. Love it. They also have a big outdoor seating area, which would be cool on a night when it wasn't 16 degrees.

I felt it would be appropriate that my first "official" review should be the one place that I could consider my second home in Philadelphia. I will try to keep this review as unbiased as possible, but the positive experiences I've had here has made it a very difficult task. I've been coming to PYT pretty much since it opened. And like most restaurants starting off, it had its share of inconsistencies and faults at first. The service was not the best, my burgers were not always cooked correctly and they were still trying to figure out who they were catering to. The reason I hold this place in such high regard is because I was currently the 'new kid' in the area when this place opened. So essentially we were both trying to figure out what the hell we were doing at the time. Over the past year I've been coming here and every time I visit I feel more and more welcome. The current staff are some of the nicest and hardest working people I've met. They're friendly to the point where I feel like I am part of the PYT family. Another amazing quality that this place has is that the owner, Tommy Up is there almost all the time just hanging out and talking to the patrons. He makes it a habit to get to know every single person that comes here and makes sure they are enjoying themselves. Now onto the food: I've pretty much tried every burger they have on the menu as well as almost every burger of the week... the fact that I don't weigh 300lbs at this point is somewhat of a mystery to me. Regardless, I have never been disappointed by a single burger I've had. There have been some that I've liked WAY more than others but every single one of them has had their merits and I've never had a time where I regretted ordering something (aside from the time I thought it would be a good idea to put two patties of beef on the cheese steak pretzel roll burger.. but that was my own damn fault.) The adult milkshakes are something that I've ordered all too frequently as well. The Diplo Shake (Key Lime Pie) and the Creamsicle Shake being two of my favorites. The Monkey Julius (One Part Golden Monkey/One Part Orange Juice with a splash of Champagne) has pretty much become a staple drink for every time I'm there. I've also introduced this to a few of my friends who simply have responded "wow..." after trying it. Needless to say I've had one too many of these before. If you're looking to party I'd suggest going here on a Friday or Saturday night. They tend to have the largest crowds and the best music selection as far as dancing. Hell, even Sunday brunch has become somewhat of a rager (probably due to the complimentary mimosas they serve from 12-2). If you're looking for a more relaxed atmosphere for a date or just trying to get a bite to eat with some friends, I'd suggest going here anytime before 9PM during the week. It's a little quieter and you can usually grab a seat quicker. Also be sure to "check-in" on foursquare because they have free drink specials going on all the time. Personally I think foursquare should thank PYT considering the amount of people I know personally who have downloaded that app specifically just to get their drink specials. Another few random/awesome things that occur here: - Doggy Ice Cream in the summer - Outdoor Waterbed - Heated Tent Lounge in the winter - 2 Separate rooms for dancing with different DJ's spinning in each space - Don't even get me started on Four Loko The reason I give 5 stars is because I've seen this place change and evolve into something completely original to Philly. They've overcome all the haters and skeptics that didn't think it would even make it 6 months. You can't compare it to anywhere else in the city and I'm sure there will be more than one place that will try to replicate what PYT has done. I could honestly write another few pages about this place but I think you should just go there for yourself and experience it. It's definitely not for everybody, but they've established themselves as one of the hippest spots to visit and for that, you should at least give it a try.

Holy yum! The burgers are amazing, the drinks are delicious, and the atmosphere is enjoyable. I love the outside seating inside the Piazza itself. I loved the Kangaroo burger and the Korean burger. The ?uestlove adult milkshake is THE BEST! You will not want to share this, lol!

I'm not sure that hipsters like food... it seems a little too mainstream for them because when we ordered ours it took effing forever. They probably had to draw straws to contact a person wearing non-yeast infection causing pants to do their evil mainstream bidding. And with a restaurant full of open tables, they sit a couple on top of us so that we could all have the pleasure of enjoying each others' boring conversation. $45 later, we had pretty excellent shakes, but possibly the messiest burgers ever. They just slid off the bun and into a pool of Ketchup. I wasn't impressed really... I kinda felt like I was in a Fudruckers that hung out with the wrong crowd.

It was just a matter of time before someone was killed here. The clientele that you are catering too is ghetto. Sunday nights at the piazza have turned into a night where you need to wear a bullet proof vest. The ignorance in the people that come to your place is unbelievable. People want to go out sit outside listen to music and have a few drinks and dance. The people you are catering to are coming with guns looking for trouble not a goodtime and not to spend money. When a business has to add gratuity on to checks because there isn't any knowledge or common curiosity that you are suppose to tip your service staff thats a red flag that they are not the clientele you want in your establishment nor in the Piazza period. I really hope you take the incident that happened into consideration and start changing what kind of people we would like to have at the piazza.

Just wanted to drop back in on my PYT review page to reaffirm that PYT has got it going on. The crowd here was incredibly well dressed and the music was off the chains. I heard maybe four Nicki Minaj verses while sitting there and every time a Nicki Minaj song came on all of the girls became visibly excited and some sang along. I felt right at home. The menu is veggie friendly, the french fries took 45 minutes and were just okay, but the stand out is still the adult milkshakes. I went with the "Cereal Killer" this time and it was so good I drank it too fast and gave myself a stomach ache to the tune of cereal-infused milk, vodka, vanilla ice cream, whip cream, crushed up Frosted Flakes annnnd the obligatory cherry on top. Worth it. Worth it, all day. Far away from the juiced Friday nights of Old City, PYT is the place to be for actual cool people. Just like you and I. And even if you aren't wearing a really expensive jacket, a mad short skirt (got it, flaunt it), or a crazy bowtie and day-glo sneakers, you're pretty much cool by proxy for being there in the first place. Congrats, you've made it!

Sometimes reading reviews doesn't give you the whole picture and you need try for yourself. That being said I heard more good things than bad about PYT and knew I had to try before making a decision. First let me start by saying the service I had was great. I was greeted at the door within a minute and seated very quickly. My waiter had menus in hand when he arrived and was helpful with the menu. Not rude or anything and let me and friend just hang out with no pressure to pay, which I like. I ordered the BBQ burger and onion rings. The burger was very tasty but the onion rings were too die for.The batter was the perfect combination lightness and full flavor. I wish I had a fryer at home so I could try and recreate them. For a Thursday afternoon the place was packed and it seemed to me that there weren't too many plates that weren't cleaned prior to heading back. All in all in good burger place, good beers and eclectic crowd. I will return.

Oh PYT ... I had such high hopes for you! Two ladies and I stopped by early-ish for Friday dinner, expected a wait, no big deal. About 20 minutes or so later we were told our table was ready and were lead to the ..... tent. It was a blustery evening and I was chilled to the bone even with my coat on. There were a few heaters around but they were not consistently heating the tent, which was also practically empty and extremely low lit, not in an ambiance-inspiring kind of way. In fact, there was zero ambiance in the tent. Could only hear the music in that "Wow everyone's really having fun in that other room" kind of way. I really felt like we were shunned to the tent while everyone inside the actual restaurant was having a blast. Sad face. This tent is most likely a thousand times better in the summer. I really wanted a milkshake (despite the freezing temps in the tent) and I enjoyed my black & white. I likewise enjoyed my calibunga burger -- great flavors and texture, though the bun was soggy when it arrived, as if it had been sitting somewhere for awhile ..... Not a fan of pop chips. Glad these are subbed in for whatever non-vegetarian chips they used to have, but next time note to self: order the fries or onion rings or just go without. At this point I would've given PYT 2 stars and said "Better luck next time," but our server was just so genuinely friendly and spirited that she garnered an extra star. I'm sure I'll be back, and next time, PYT, you have your work cut out for you!

long story short: worst customer service ever and a burger joint who does not understand how to cook burgers to temps. we have gone a handful of times, mostly for the milkshakes (which are good - prob the only reason to ever go), but this time in particular for the burger of the week. now, the service has never been great. it's a burger joint so you can't expect much but i should at least be able to get my burger cooked to the temp i ordered. this isn't the first time it happened but it sure will be the last because i am not going back. third time ordering food there was definitely not the charm! it took over 45 minutes to get a medium rare burger (without warning). after about 25 minutes we asked the bartender (where we ate because the wait was over an hour for a table) and he was like "oh i forgot to tell you the kitchen was backed up. we were going to cut off food service for a bit but they said they were caught up." YOU ARE A RESTAURANT! i have been in the business for over 8 years and know that it should take less than 15 minutes to cook a med rare burger.. and their patties are not that large. and when it's the only thing you really make, you should have it down to a system... i understand being busy but it really was not anymore. it was a thursday night after 9 PM. it had def died down and people were mostly drinking at this point. we finally asked for our food to go, which seems to have sat in the window for quite some time. the hash browns were so soggy and the burgers were med-well to well done. our walk is just upstairs so it's not like it could have cooked that much more in a to go container. the best part - the manager just like stood there when we confronted the bartender about the wait. way to back up your employees and run your restaurant, coward.

Back in 2009, I would have given PYT four stars. It was a great place to hang out and the back room was popping. It was great for big groups or just for quality time with a boyfriend. Fast forward to 2011 and it gets a 2.5 star rating. The servers here used to be really fun, colorful characters. Even if they were a little "eccentric" the food still came out relatively fast, they were generally attentive and kept the socializing amongst themselves to a minimum. The last three times we've been, the portions have gotten smaller and the burgers were not cooked to order. There have been extremely long wait times and I've seen other tables ignored by waitstaff. Also the last two servers we had were very "flighty": forgetting what we ordered, not bringing the check in a timely manner, no silverware/napkins and delays in food/drink. The food portions have decreased substantially and prices are still relatively high for what you get. The sliders are pathetically small, as are the chicken patties. The fries used to be good and the onion rings have been burnt the last few times. Oh yeah, before I forget: turn the music down!

[This was solely based on my first visit] I came here last summer for the first time with a friend for dinner. We were greeted by Tommy and seated right away. Yes the atmosphere may have started out hipster-ish or w/ that concept then got way too mainstream because it was too yummy to keep a secret. The menu was easy to read and pretty simple. I ordered the "Kalibunga Burger" which is by far the most tastiest veggie burger I have ever had. My taste buds wanted to marry the flavors after a first bite. OMG and the onion rings were the best! They looked handmade because they were huge and does not look or taste over-process or over-cooked. As a beverage I got the blueberry ale (forgot the exact brand) but I'm loving it! I want more !! Service was good, no complaints. Music is right up my alley. I havent gave PYT another visit because I heard that it got too hype and overcrowded. Dont bother coming on the weekends is what I heard. Maybe I'll have to revisit on a random weeknight.

OK. This place has been reviewed to death. So, here are the nuts and bolts: 1. Be prepared to wait. I have had at least a half hour wait (unless there was a reservation made) almost every time I have been here. 2. For what it is, it is NOT cheap. For burgers, fries, and an adult beverage, be prepared to drop around 35.00 per person. 3. ALL your food will come out at the same time. So if you order some fo the unusually filled pierogis, or the like, you will NOT get them as an appetizer. They will come out with your burgers. Hell, twice they even came out AFTER the burgers. I am no longer sure whether to blame the servers or the kitchen for this. Frankly, I find it annoying. 4. The shakes are tasty but nothing you cannot make at home with ice cream, a blender and some booze. I don't really think they are worth 10.00 each. Maybe 8.50 or even 9.00. But 10.00 just irks me. 5. Onion rings and fries are delicious but small. You will want to order more than one to feel you are getting your fill. 6. Free mimosas on Sundays during brunch are a lovely touch. So, yes, the burgers themselves are tasty, juicy, and wonderfully sloppy. The service and prices - meh. It all needs some work.

If you want a burger with a flare...wait, no, scratch that. If you want a homemade black bean and lentil burger MARINATED IN WHISKEY, FLARED AND SERVED WITH A FRIED PICKLE then come to PYT! This place is AWESOME! I have seen the Philly pretzel role bun with steak/burger in the middle and it looks like the absolute best hang over food on the planet. If I were ever in need of some seriously good eats and forgot I was a vegetarian then that is what I will eat! In the meantime, I will gladly choose from the assortment of homemade veggie burgers with all the PYT pizazz that I know and love. And if I'm still not full (which is simply impossible), I've got several adult milkshakes to choose from for the sweet delight after a salty plight. I've had the Bananas Foster and it is fantastic! Not enough alcohol to leave me tipsy or anything like that, but the smooth rum mixed with the sweet banana left a caramely sweet, warm feeling throughout. Not a place to eat before the club, but enjoy drinks at the bar while you're waiting to have an unforgettable night perhaps. Definitely the place to go the next afternoon after a night out to recount memories and replenish your body. PYT was already on the map, but they became even more famous with their "Chik-Fil-Gay" sandwich which they sold in response to the Chik-Fil-A fiasco and gave a portion of the proceeds to a local LGBT health organization. Gay, straight, whatever, this place has all the flavors in the right places as well as a spatula on the pulse of the LGBT community and its needs. I will be regularly endorsing this establishment and you should too!

Soooooooooo I'm not sure why people are so upset about this place but I have NEVER had any issues. I've never heard about the 20% auto-tip but then again I've never paid out of pocket for this myself. Also, I've never had an issure with the food....EVER. It just makes me so happy to sit down and indulge my entire life away with one of these burgers and a milkshake. Recently tried the ?uestlove milkshake and it was probably the best bit of creamy goodness I've had in a LONG time (hey, hey, keep your minds out the gutter!). I finished that way before my meal even showed up. I've also had the Birthday Cake shake (you have to ask for it, It's not on the menu), and the Cookie Monster. I have NEVER been disappointed. They also load them with alcohol and who doesn't love that?! I will admit that if it gets crowded, some of the waiters that don't have their light bulbs screwed in too well tend to slack, however, for the most part, many of the ones that I have had were pretty good. They're also really down to earth and I think that's the atmostphere that they are going for. Only thing I really don't care for is that the Krispy Kreme burger is now served as a set of minis and I don't think that you can get the full effect of it's goodness. It's kinda like downsizing a shot......you really don't get it's full effect. Now THAT'S a waste.

I absolutely love their "Adult" milkshakes! The 'Cookie Monster' is the best. It is made with vanilla ice cream, vanilla vodka, Irish cream liquor and crushed Oreo's. YUM! I did not try their food because it seemed a bit overpriced for burgers and fries, so I decided to opt out and just get a milkshake. It was very much worth it! Neither the alcohol or the sweetness were overpowering. There was a great balance between the two and it was a tasty combination. There is a milkshake for everyone's taste buds and I highly recommend visiting PYT. It is in a hopping section of Northern Liberties so after your visit, you can hit up one of the local bars.

Have been here countless times and the food is pretty good. They have perhaps the best chicken burger in the city and the beef burgers are probably top3-5 in the city. The fries are good too, even though alot of people don't like them. I recently went here and found out they now have a set gratuity for all orders....regardless of party size. This kind of irks me being that a) it's a glorified burger joint b) it's often crowded here and level of service can not be guaranteed. From what I've seen lately the main clientele here now days are white hipsters and young blacks....not to stereotype but two demographics i'm sure aren't heavy handed with the tips. So I get the new policy just rubbed me the wrong way and probably will affect how often I come here. I heard even if you sit at the bar they still charge you 18% gratuity. Not good edit: ok I probably sound like I don't tip. But seriously auto-gratuity at PYT? cmon

PYT's a great place for your out-of-the-ordinary burger. I had the sliders w/chocolate-covered bacon on grilled Krispy Kreme "buns" with a Caucasian (White Russian-esque) shake. Fantastic!!! The sugar rush was kept in check by the booze. My girl had the more conservative Lobster Burger, which I agreed, was excellent. Fries (specialized for the burgers, kudos, guys!) were excellent as well. Atmosphere was quirky, as is with The Piazza. I dig dining alfresco, and if the big tv's on, you might be in heaven or hell, depending what's on. Service was attentive and friendly. Food arrived hot & well presented. Costs are reasonable, if you can stomach $10 milkshakes...but hey, they're full of booze! Parking's a pain, but isn't it most places in Philly? Can't wait until my next Caucasian.

Luv me some PYT! --Delicious Burgers --Surprisingly good lobster roll --Pickleback shots (another surprisingly good discovery) --FourLokos --Bangin "Backroom" parties w/no cover w/ hot music--shout out to DJ Ed Blammo --Reasonably priced Only draw-back: Still super-slow service :-( But all the positives outweigh this negative...you just kinda get used to it lol. NoLibs is lucky to have a chill spot like this with Great Food! Oh---and those 'Burgers of the Week' are super-creative---Red Velvet Cupcake Burger???? Whhhaattt!!??? lol

PYT is just f**king brilliant. Not only can you order any burger on the menu, but you can also create your own burger. Awe and amazement! The staff are great! I enjoy Andy. When he take my orders, an pen and pad is non-existence. I love that. The hostess is cute and helpful. I don't know her name because she constantly fails to introduce herself. PYT IS THE BEST BURGER JAWN IN PHILLY!!!

Took a friend here for his birthday finally convince him to come here And now he said he will never come back. Slowest service ever. Took 20 mins to get a beer at a table. Not even busy. Lost our order when we asked where is our food. After waiting for almost 40 mins. Have to reorder everything!!! No comp. no discount. Only say sorry. Poor service. Poor management . Manager never come by to apologize or offer anything. Why make a good service, They don't care they know the r making money either way. Very disappointed. :(

Oh PYT, how the mighty have fallen. Before the summer, you were the bees knees, but you've become complacent with your place in the Philadelphia food scene, and you've clearly been slacking off when you should have remained consistent on quality and service. On a recent return trip, I was greatly underwhelmed with what I thought was going to be an awesome meal to make up for a shitty week at school. It was so disappointing. First, the staff seemed spotty and carefree, not really attending too much to us or the other diners for that matter. I know that PYT has the habit of hiring hipsters to huck hamburgers, but there are certain things that waiters and waitresses need to do when serving customers (be attentive, occasionally swing by and take orders, not act like a space cadet, service with a smile, etc...). Either hire people who actually want to work and serve food or don't hire them at all. Second, the food. It's been downsized, and I don't mean in a good way. Compared to earlier visits, the burgers are smaller and the buns are not as sturdy as they used to be. It was like getting served a cookout-sized burger in a restaurant setting (3-4" diameter) on a filmsy bun. The burgers are still topped with the same funky foodie-friendly combos, but obviously they don't hold up as well. And they haven't lowered the prices to compensate either (so the $12 you spent three months ago on a Korean BBQ burger is now buying you less meat today). Just not right. Everything else, as far as I'm concerned, hasn't changed terribly. Still good milkshakes, still ok fries, still decent atmosphere that screams "gentrified Northern Liberties hipsters". I think the time has come to rediscover Sketch up the street.

I've heard sooo much about PTY. It's great parties, super awesome burgers, and just a general great time. Unfortunately, I didn't experience any of the above my first visit to PYT. I went there with a friend from out of town expecting a very hip restaurant with great food. We walked in, and found a very boring diner set-up. There were only about 2 other tables and maybe two people at the bar. There was no music, and the atmosphere just seemed very dull. Well we sat at the bar anyway to try out the food (especially the burgers that I heard so much about). We got beers that were on happy hour special (the only good thing that happened). For food, my friend, who wasn't that hungry just got an order of the onion rings, and I ordered the Portabella burger. I'm not vegetarian but every portabella burger (not sandwich) I've ever had was amazing. Things continued to go downhill when I was informed they were out of goat cheese for my burger. Bummer, but no biggie, they substituted boursin cheese instead (which is yummy). My burger came out and I was soooo disspointed. It was teeny tiny (only about 3-4 inches in diameter) and the bun looked like a burger king bun (a simple white bread bun you can buy at super fresh). Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was expecting a large sandwich, since it is a burger, with a great Le Bus bun or something similar. And my sandwich came with chips. Like potato chips. The whole meal was NOT worth my $9. I wanted to try their famous adult milkshakes but just did not want to be dissapointed any further. No sure if I will return again. Sorry PYT, there are just too many other burger joints to try in Philly :(

For all that is said about the service and clientele, I for one can say I did not experience any of this the other night. I went on a Tuesday evening and we were sat immediately upon arriving. A few seconds later a nice gentleman server greeted us and took our drinks. I got the Cookie Monster shake and the gf got a Rootbeer cocktail. Both were delicious, but mine was extremely heavy on the booze. I couldn't finish it, but the gf had no problem picking up the slack. We were quite torn on what burgers to try, so we split the cheesesteak pretzel burger and the bbq bacon bleu burger. We ordered both medium and I'm happy to say they were cooked correctly. The bacon bleu was beyond excellent. The combination of the bacon, bleu cheese and bbq sauce was perfection. The roll was fresh and held up with all the messiness of the sandwich. The cheesesteak burger was absolute perfection. The pretzel roll was fresh and an actual real pretzel. It still had the salt on it, which a lot other pretzel rolls fail to have. The burger was topped with whiz, fried onions. PYT sauce and steak. Between the service and overall quality of the burgers, I have to say I was impressed. I would definitely come back here when the next craving for a burger hits. Also, I should mention their waffle fries are AWESOME. Get the waffle fries.

Korean BBQ burger was delicious. Free beer with yelp check in also a nice thing. Parking was.. easy enough. Crowd was friendly. I went there around 4 or 5.. I don't know about the crowd after 9pm though hahaha Service was cool enough. Oh and I went there on yelp drink week that just over. The 'honorable mention' was good. So good I have to forced myself to stop after the 3rd glass; since I didn't bring noone with me and I have to drove back home myself. I'll be back to try on something else.

I originally gave this place a 4-star review. I had enjoyed great food and decent service on that visit. Sadly, I feel compelled to come back and lower that score to a 2-star review. First, on my visit today, it took 20 minutes to get water and to be seen by a waiter. It took 35 more minutes to get food. When it came out, they brought three of our meals, but not the fourth, leaving one of the members of our party without food for an additional 5-6 minutes. On top of that, my order was totally wrong. It took another 25 minutes for them to bring me the right thing. I got the mini burgers, and they were clearly only half cooked (perhaps because they were rushing to get them to me?). I know the difference between medium and medium-rare, and these were on the rare side for sure. The chips were oddly flavored and very mediocre. These were not the chips I had had previously. It took another 10+ minutes to get our check. They gave me my meal for free as a result of the mix up, but considering it took two hours to get in and out of there, and my meal wasn't even good, I can't image heading back there any time soon.

I've been a fan of PYT since they opened. The burgers are yummy and so are the onion rings. It's a fun atmosphere and less expensive than you'd think it would be. When people I know have dissed it, I stuck up for the place. The backroom was pretty cool, too. And come on, free draft for checking in on Foursquare or Yelp? Into it. I've gotten used to the laissez faire attitude of the servers, who are usually pleasant and helpful but also seem to not care too much about...well, anything. Still, I've never had a problem with them. I enjoyed a beer once and the waitress even took the time to write down what kind it was so I could enjoy it again at home. However, my most recent trip was less than pleasant. Our drinks took forever and we didn't order anything crazy or out of the ordinary. I asked for our order of onion rings to come before our burgers and they did not. Even getting more water in our cups seemed to be a challenge! I got a strawberry milkshake to go and it came up in a regular glass. Luckily, the dude who brought it out had no problem putting it in a cup to go, after realizing our waiter left that part of the order out. The thing that most pissed me off was the mandatory 20% tip on all orders. Big groups? I understand. I could even understand tacking it on for Friday & Saturday nights. But a 20% tip for slow, unsatisfactory service on a Saturday afternoon was absurd. I have absolutely no problem giving a great tip when service warrants it but not this time. Still, I'm sure I'll go back. I'll just be grumbling about the mandatory tip.

I heart PYT. I would give PYT all five stars if every. single. one. of my visits didn't start with a ridiculous wait for someone to acknowledge my seated party. Morning... Afternoon... Night time... Whether we are two at the bar or six in a booth.. it's always the same. The hostess seats us immediately. And then we wait. I don't know what that's about. The service is great, once we get it, but I'm always on the verge of walking out before our server even says hello. Annoying wait aside, it's one of the few places I think is great for anyone. Any kind of group/demographic/etc. Foodies, drunks, sports nuts, party animals, intimate date-nighters... it all works. Kids, adults, drunks, AA members, everybody fits comfortably. And the food is FANTASTIC. One day, I will get my lips on a Chicken & Waffle sandwich, but, it's kinda ok if I can't catch it, because I'm addicted to the Korean BBQ Burger and the Fried Chicken Sammie. With a "grape soda" (Three Olives Grape & Sprite) and some onion rings, please. And don't forget my pickle... It's like, spicy or something.

Yummy burgers!!! My sister and I tried the famous Korean burger which was fabulous and we also tried this double cheeseburger with onion rings (I forget the name) and it was amazing as well! My only gripe was that my silverware and water glass wasn't 100% clean....but nothing to prevent me from coming back (just asked the server to replace). The service was good and the atmosphere cool. Can't wait to try their other burgers.

Not a bad place. Great place to hang in the Summer. Obviously the place gets really packed, so service will continue to be sub par. Not much that can be done about that. Its nice to get a free beer (Kenzinger or Miller Lite) every time you check in. PYT is a place to hang out and drink at....I would not recommend going there to get a great meal.

Went here with our Groupon- was pretty excited because BF and I love a good burger. Used our Yelp check in and got the free draft beer- can only be used for Miller High Life or Kenziger. I got the Lobster burger and bf got the Korean. They were ok- fine in fact. However mine was pretty plain and I would have loved a little lettuce and tomato on top. Bread was great. The meat just wasn't seasoned very much- the lobster was good but definitely no stars amongst. His Korean was same, not very seasoned but the kimchee was good. Also, had the cookies and cream adult milkshake which was amazing! However at $10 a pop, can't say I would go back for one especially since the burgers were just fine. Definitely busy place and they have outdoor seating but for me I wouldn't make the trek.

They give you a free beer with each foursquare check-in. They serve a pretty decent burger and do a rotating featured burger weekly. They do pickleback shots (if you're cool [read: not extremely, extremely cool] Tommy might but you one). The onion rings are good, the pork roll, egg and cheese was legit, and though I can't comment on the rest of the menu (chicken burger, veggie burger, alcoholic milkshakes) I haven't heard too many complaints. You will hear complaints about service, clientele, etc. but you really should know what this place is and when to avoid it. With the right discretion you might actually enjoy yourself.

I've heard a lot of hype about this place, but I can't say I was that impressed. The service was great, but my burger wasn't anything to write home about. My dining partner ordered a veggie burger that they had run out of, so they offered us the chance to order something else, or wait 20 minutes for them to prepare more. We opted to wait, and our server was attentive and apologized more than once. I asked for my burger to be cooked to medium, and good thing I did! There wasn't a drop of pinkness inside it, so if it was cooked any longer it would have certainly been overcooked for me. The burger was moist enough, and toppings were decent, but for the price you pay I was expecting something more. The fries were just ok. There's nothing bad I can say about this place, there's just nothing that great I can say.

Four stars because our server was fantastic. We went to PYT for yelp cocktails week with an inordinate amount of people (14 - which I am usually against) on a Saturday night. Matt went out of his way to be nice, accommodating, and efficient. He split the check up by our names without anyone asking. The drinks were great. We sat outside on the couches and outdoor tables and had a great evening. I am not into the situation that occurs in the back room on Saturday nights (a little too bro-sky), but I had a really great time. I would definitely like to go back for dinner on a weeknight, especially when it gets warm and you can sit outside.

Dear PYT, I love your cheese fries, wonderfully social bartenders (except for that one guy...), and most recently, your incredibly generous service to me: helping me carry my entirely unconscious friend home. She's alive. She made it. Couldn't have done it without you. No, really, I would've had to drag her by her feet were it not for you. I might have just left her on the sidewalk on Girard. I've never had a problem with your service, though I do see a lot of reviews talking about that. I understand if it could get slow on crowded nights though, it does get packed. Anyhow, you have a great large menu, nice to see the adult milkshakes that are incredibly sweet and astonishingly heavy. Again, the cheeeese fries... oh wonderful fried goodness. Haven't had a burger, may try one someday. But mostly, it's the free PBR nights, trivia nights, and the perfectly comfortable sunday afternoon beer atmosphere that brings me back again and again. Stay good! Your fan, K

I'm always on the look out for fun foodie road trips. When I happened upon this gem of a article.... avclub.com/philadelphia/… "PYT's latest weekly novelty burger platter is a set of Krispy Kreme sliders, beef topped with chocolate-covered bacon" My friend and I jumped in the car drove the 3 hours from westchester county NY to Philly P.A. Knowing it could be a total bust we were happy that it was surprisingly good. I wouldn't be able to eat more then one slider. The salty bacon the sweet chocolate the beef and glaze really balanced each other out. PYT has a burger of the week and that week was to celebrate a Krispy Kreams coming to the neighborhood. If I lived closer I would definitely hit it up more often.

So good! Had a burger on a soft pretzel w fries an a Cookie Monster adult milkshake. The burger is so big its my lunch for tomorrow too. The burger is cooked perfectly and was such a creative take on a burger. My boyfriend got a burger w a Jameson glaze that he's enjoying as well. The wait time for food wasn't bad either and the waitress was very friendly.

Horrible manager. They refused to do takeout, even to vendors at the Brooklyn Flea outside their front door who couldn't leave their booths. Staff members said that she didn't care about losing business. Bizarre. Stay away.

This is a place to go if you are drunk or want to be and crave fried food. This is not a place to go if you actually want to eat in a reasonable amount of time. I went there last night, got seated right away, but waited 15 minutes and no one ever came to take my order... even as waitstaff tended to tables all around mine. Me and my friend left. I'd been there once before and had a similar experience, but actually got to eat that time. I'll never go again.

PYT is located in an awesome area that's great to visit particularly in the summer. I came here recently to celebrate a friend's birthday, and they were happy to give us a free bottle of champagne (tasted decent, but I don't have champagne standards). Lovely touch. We ordered some shots, then some cheap beers, then some adult milkshakes. As you can tell, we were there for the drinks rather than the food. Their food menu is creative and the appetizers we did get were consumed rather quickly. I liked the atmosphere, though the music could have been more upbeat for the time of night. Our waitress was one of the most personal and genuine I've ever had. She was joking with us, taking shots with us, and was sometimes even a little abrasive. It was refreshing to me. Anyway, definitely try this place. I hear the burgers are bangin. Bring a six pack to tank in the Piazza while watching the Phils in the summer, then come in for some good grub and drinks. Especially if it's your birthday.

Stopped by here last weekend and couldn't wait to try their burgers that I keep hearing about. Got there around 11 pm on a saturday and it was moderately busy. We all decided to start off with drinks at the bar. I stood at the bar for at least 15 minutes and wasn't even acknowledged by the bartender. He just stood there talking to the other employees. So I gave up on that and decided to get a table. We had to put our name on a list even though there clearly were plenty of tables open. So we waited and waited and waited some more for about 20 minutes to finally get seated. Everything on the menu looked delicious. We were already to order and you guessed it...we waited and waited some more! It took about another 20 minutes for our server to finally arrive at our table for the first time! I ordered the PYT burger medium, onion rings and cheese tots. I was expecting an 8 oz burger. What came out was a tiny burger cooked well done topped with 1 strip of bacon for $9?!?! One strip of bacon?!?! That's WEAK!!! Looked like a kids burger. The onion rings came out soggy with the batter falling off. Fail. The cheesey tots came out better than expected, crispy and loaded with cheese. Pros: cheesy tots? Cons: SERVICE, value Would I give PYT a second try? Ha, I would much rather go over to Village Whiskey and wait 30 min for a table and pay $26 for a burger.

I've been back to PYT a handful of times in the past year and none of them have been very good. I really want to love this place because the scene is cool and the owner is a super nice guy and a great part of the community. When it comes down to it though, I just can't justify upwards of $12-$14 for a burger that really isn't much better than a $4 Whopper. I feel like they're using deceptive advertising. When you walk in there are these images on the walls of people practically having sex with their juicy condiment oozing delicious big beefs but I'm left starving for something memorable each and every time I leave. Maybe I'll go back if they were to focus less on the novelty burgers and more on something truly yummy.

I'm giving PYT 5 stars solely based on their Kim Chi burger, which i had last night and my life will be forever changed. Absolutely delicious! PYT isn't a gastropub, and as such do not go expecting to get a typical Gastropub burger (big patty) on a hearty bun. Instead, the burgers here taste more like a fast food joint- a little slimmer fried patty, but honestly- I felt the portion was perfect, as was the balance of flavors. The buns are a bit too soft for their burgers here (sopping up the juices too much), but then again, it tasted fantastic to me so I guess it all works. Service was also very attentive. I am looking forward to going back with other newbie friends, and not sure I will be able to cheat on my Kim Chi.

So first off I'd just like to say, I think this place deserves a better rep than the vast majority of the reviews I've read on it gives it. I say this because, from reading the reviews I had placed this restaurant in the 'yeah some day we will go there and eat' but i wasn't in any real rush category. And I feel like now that I've been there, it never should have been in that category at all. Because we had an excellent time and for several different reasons. I feel it would be remiss of me to not mention that one of the reasons we had a delightful time was our waitress Natalie. She was very attentive and quick to helpfully advise us on what was on special (it was happy hour) and what we might like, and basically she was totally awesome and everything you could want in a server. Secondly I should mention the weather yesterday was primo for sitting outside and imbibing. Serious, perfection. So we were very fortunate to come here at this exact moment in time. The food was very good. I was a little disappointed with the roll on my truffled lobster burger (it was dense and a bit thick for my liking) but the burger itself and toppings were very appetising. My boyfriend had the BBQ blue burger (or something like that) his was totally awesome, roll included. And the fries on both our plates were delicious. So food wise we will definitely return. Drink wise it as happy hour when we arrived so I may have gotten a bit overly intoxicated on a few golden monkeys, but at only $3 a glass, can you blame me? and Natalie suggested we cap the meal off with a Caucausian -adult shake. I didn't really read it, but it was delicious! and while 10 bucks is definitely a bit steep for a milkshake, there being booze in it, and all I'd say it was the perfect cap on this basically perfect meal. The only reason we're at 4 and not 5 is my roll. but that may have just been an ordering faux pas on my part. However, we will definitely return in the future and see if we can have 5 stars -meal. I think it's definitely doable. Hopefully Natalie will be there too!

What do you expect from a place that is described as, Ambiance: Hipster, Trendy, Casual? Which is exactly what it is. For that reason it will be: crowded, take a while to get a drink/food, noisy. If you want a great burger and drinks relatively fast, go at 12pm on a Wednesday. If you want to feel cool, try out your new piercing, tattoo, and/or holey leggings in public go at 11pm on a Friday night. Just writing this review has me craving a PYT burger...damnit!

You gotta have the word "sucker" written across your forehead to show up at PYT. Remember the time Bush screwed up the "throw me once, shame on you, throw me twice, shame on me" line in a speech? Well, PYT managed to throw me twice. Shame on them. Or wait, is it shame on me? Thanks Dubya. Either way, PYT's service stinks like a dead skunk in the middle of a country road. It's shame-full. We ordered two burgers for take out last fall when they opened. They told me to come pick them up in 20 minutes. I arrived in 20 minutes and had to wait another 20. Then I returned home to enjoy an average-at-best burger which featured future indigestion and heartburn. The second time we walked in on a weekday evening. The place wasn't really crowded, but we stood in the doorway for a good ten minutes before being seated. Another five minutes went by and some staffer came over with glasses of water. He informed us that he had no menus to give us and would be back "soon." Ten minutes went by without seeing a server, a menu, or even the offer of a cocktail. We got up and walked out and were not even asked if anything was wrong when we went past a cadre of employees. The final result was dinner at El Camino on N. 2nd Street. They at least seem to give a damn about their customers! Perhaps they ought to change their name to PDT. Pretty Disappointing Time.

Layout is nice, weird club-like entrance procedure, NOT. Service is AWFUL! And you want to automatically take out 20% gratuity???? -1 star bitches. And waitstaff my laugh in your face is you politely request that the heinously loud music in the middle corridor be turned down. Try having a phone convo here... Yeeeahh, not gonna happen. Krispy Kreme donut BURGER w CHOCOLATE BACON??? Sold! Yum yum yum! Skip both the onion rings AND fries. Their service cuts their yelp rating SIGNIFICANTLY, so 2 for now.

I'm still going here all the time. The burgers are not only delicious, but they're entertaining. The expansion of the menu to include a variety of hot dogs is great. The addition of the krispy kreme burger (now as sliders) to the menu full time is even better. Shakes are awesome. Still some of the best fries in town. Things still holding it back from 5 stars: - a few times they've overcooked my burger, which pisses me off. - automatic 20% gratuity is kinda weird.

Well, most of these reviews are pretty accurate. This place is run by lazy hipsters and the food is mediocre. They had our party of five, two of whom were obviously pregnant, wait for seating for 45 minutes on a Wednesday evening, while they sat dozens ahead of us. The food is no better than five guys. I'd rather go to 500 degrees on Sansom any day to get better food and service in a quarter of the time that you'll wait at PYT. It's also a turn off when I see the wait staff smoking directly in front of a restaurant, which several were doing here.
