One star because you can buy beer there. The food is so bad it has to be a front. Just get the beer and leave.

Do not order from Peking Inn on 2020 Penrose Avenue. They have terrible food. We ordered Chinese vegetable soup, scallion pancakes, and sweet and sour deep fried pork. The vegetables arrived in warm, not even hot, water (not broth). No seasoning at all. You could tell they were leftover veggies. The scallion pancakes lacked any taste and were loaded with fryer oil. The pork was old, tough, and gray. It was in some sort of dough coating. The oil that they were cooked in from the deep fryer was rancid and almost black. We were sick for two to three days after eating this awful food from Peking Inn.

Do not order from the Peking Inn! The food was awful. The only reason I ordered from this place is because they take credit/debit and I did not want to go to the ATM. I ordered two sesame chicken platters with 2 pints of broccoli and broccoli chicken with rice. First off, the sesame chicken was dry. Literally no sauce. Sesame chicken is supposed to have some sauce and it should be slightly sweet - nothing here, no sauce, no flavor. The broccoli came with sauce and it just tasted like pure MSG. Pure sodium flavor. I felt like I was slowly dehydrating my body as I ate the mix of chicken and broccoli. This place is gross and on top of that extremely overpriced. Please, for the sake of your tastebuds, wallet and health, spend your money elsewhere.

Why can't I give it zero stars? Slow service when the restaurant was nearly empty, the table was dirty, and when I received the food - I left after only having one bite. The tofu was dry. I mean DRY. Its as if it sat out for days. Please go out of business. Soon.

first off we walked in and there was only one other couple... the fried wonton noodles they gave us were stale.like really stale.... I ordered general's tso shrimp which is usually not difficult to make and my friend ordered general tso tofu. this was disgusting. the shrimp was really slimy. when we complained the women said that we had eaten half of our meals which is very not true and wanted us to pay half. We refused and got out only pay$5 for tea. THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING HOW IS IT STILL OPEN?

Peking Inn has only a 2 star rating?! Blasphemy! I've been coming here for just over twenty years now and they serve the absolute best Chinese food I've ever had - period. Whether you decide to eat-in or take-out, the chances of you enjoying your meal should be 10 times out of 10. We recently enjoyed a meal dining-in; I ordered wonton soup, pizza rolls, boneless spare ribs, lobster and chicken in velvet sauce, and a vanilla ice cream (I know it's a lot, don't judge!). Everything was delicious. The soup was just right, the ribs were cooked perfectly - medium - not too dry, and exceptionally moist. The lobster and chicken in velvet sauce was also prepared to my liking. Now, if you're expecting a ritzy, non-dive type restaurant this isn't the place for you. The decor isn't overly impressive, you'll find refrigerators filled with beer/malt liquor/wine coolers, and a shady person or two will stop in here or there to sample the spirits. If you're a true South Philadelphian, this won't bother you in the least. I'd recommend Peking Inn to anyone - because of the food. You won't find better Chinese food in this city, even if you go into Chinatown. Don't listen to the negative reviews. This place has been in business so long for a reason. Give it a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Needless to say, I'll be returning!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
