Quick update. Went once more for breakfast and one word comes to mind "consistency", something a lot of the local eatery are seriously lacking. Today I tried one of they're cheese steaks...$7 for full size sandwich. Taste was great, perfect mixture of meat and cheese with just the right amount of fried onions. Neither flavor overpowered the others. Roll was fresh, beef tasty and cooked right. Definitely a new favorite for some quick breakfast or lunch chow.

This is far from a decent place. The food took a half hour, and the place was empty. I got a turkey cheeseburger and it was greasy, as well as tasteless. If I wait 30 minutes than I expect something edible. My stomach has been feeling cruddy after eating there. I doubt I will return here, regardless of the cheap prices.

This is the straight up diner you've been looking for. Solid Food, great service, super cheap. Bacon Egg and Cheese Sandwich for 3.75? I'll take it any day of the week. Also, the wood paneling, kitchy light fixtures, and plate and mugs that are just a little more ornate than you would expect are awesome. I just love the vibe of this tiny family owned hole in the wall. And they open at 5:30 AM! Perfect for the post late night rager.

Love the whole "old school" feel of a classic philly diner. Great staff and service. The breakfast and daily soups and special are always outstanding. A true hidden gem!

100% hands down the best Cheese Steak I've had in my entire life. I was traveling around the country in Philly for a few days and befriended the owners and they were the nicest people I've ever met. Why waste your time at Geno's or Pat's when you can have this?

I go here a couple of times per year and the food is usually pretty good. I just left there after having the meatloaf special. I should have opted for a sandwich. The meatloaf special was not very good. The mashed potatoes had the consistency of gruel. Sorry, but I did not enjoy my most recent experience.

New Town is pretty much the only lunch option within walking distance of my strangely-located office, and a great sole option at that. Maria is the BEST. So nice, friendly and easy to talk to while waiting for pick-up. New Town is one of those places that the amount owed changes every single time you're there, even if you're getting the same exact thing, but it's always ridiculously cheap and really delicious. Personal recommendations are the Cheeseburger Platter ($5 for a burger with any toppings plus delicious fries and some coleslaw), the Grilled Cheese (something insanely cheap like $2) & all the subs. They have daily specials as well that are all great. Coming from Northern New Jersey I've missed the traditional, friendly, local diner that I grew so accustomed to. I'm so glad to have found somewhere that is exactly like what I had growing up - great food, great people and great prices.

New Town is the best. This diner reminds me of the diners of George Pelecanos books - cozy, family-owned (by some awesome Greeks!), and reliable. The food is delicious and affordable, and the staff attentive. I really love the owners as well - extremely sweet and welcoming. I plan to become a regular here!

Hello to my new favorite breakfast place! I can't believe that I've been in Philly for a year and missed this wonderful place only a few blocks from my home. Let's begin with the service...many places have good service because they have to...New Town has great service because they are genuinely great people that truly care. The family that own it are the poster children for nice. I had the creamed chipped beef on toast with home fries. The chipped beef is hands down the best I've had in Philly and the home fries were cooked nice and crisp with fried onions seasoned perfectly. The reason I've missed this diamond in the rough is because it is in a pseudo industrial area on 9th between Callowhill and Spring Garden. Do yourself a favor and stray off the beaten path to breakfast heaven.

Great place. What a gem, indeed. I was leaving today's bi-annual hipster-mania event known as the R5 Productions' Punk Rock Flea Market...and we stumbled upon this place. Great deals are to be found on your standard American fare. They have some Greek stuff and this place just looks straight out of the 70s and 80s...a place where Jerry Seinfeld would eat at (in reality Larry David, of course). My friend and I got two BLT's and an order of fries and it was very quick being prepared...just under $12-13 with tip. I will be back here, I like the cozy, non-packed places. The reason this joint doesn't get much love is because it is dead center in the middle of nowhere (No Man's Land) in the Center City area. It's pretty close to the Electric Factory and on the same block as the Starlight Ballroom. If you are planning on going to either of these venues and want to get some cheap eats beforehand...go to New Town! Hope this review convinces others to come here. This is a cash-only place, by the way. Nearest ATM is at the convenience store on 10th and Spring Garden.

I was visiting Philadelphia when friends took me to New Town. The proprietors are super sweet and the food is very good and inexpensive. The location is weird - hidden in a crumbling industrial area of town, but getting there is totally worth it. They had really good coffee and I got to try scrapple!

New Town Deli and Restaurant is a little gem located in the no- man's land between Callowhill and Spring Garden Streets. Clean and reasonably priced, New Town is a favorite breakfast and lunch place for the cops, cabbies, firefighters and government workers who work on Spring Garden Street. Service is friendly, and the owners, who are Greek, have a firm grip on American Comfort food. I have been to New Town several times for lunch, and always get the specials, which are delicious. Today was the first time I ordered breakfast at the New Town, and it did not disappoint. Breakfast for two, friendly service, and bottomless cups of coffee were less than $12.00. There is no parking lot, and, at lunch time, parking on 9th street can be a challenge. No parking issues during our 7AM arrival for breakfast. New Town also delivers, will fax the menu of daily specials to your location, and has a comprehensive sandwich selection. All menu items are available for take out. The hours are Monday thru Friday 6 AM until 3 PM, Saturday 6AM till 1PM. Closed Sunday. So- reasonable prices; great food; clean bathrooms and friendly service make the New Town a "go."
