Not bad, nothing extraordinary though. Have only gotten delivery here once and will try again. (delivery time was less than 30 minutes) I was pleased with the shrimp fried rice and the serving size of the dumplings was very generous. Good vegetable spring roll also. I liked that on their website they have coupons when you order, so I was able to get a free order of cheese wontons. They were a nice little treat and I liked the sauce that came with them.

We got take out from here a couple weeks ago and I don't think I will be back. This place is a little pricey, nothing crazy but I have gotten better food for the same price. Four of us got takeout and it was over $40. My boyfriend didn't even get an actual meal, just shrimp fried rice. I don't mind paying for good quality food and this chinese food was pretty good but nothing crazy. The one thing that really bothered me was I ordered the kung pao chicken and an egg roll, both were really good. However, the kung pao chicken didn't even come with rice! Maybe it was just an error and they forgot to put it in there, but I have never order a chicken entree from a chinese place that didn't automatically come with white rice. I would've paid the extra and gotten a pint of white rice if I knew it wasn't included, it's not like it cost much. Anyway, we found another chinese place in the area that delivers, the food is maybe a notch below this place, but still good and WAY cheaper. So I don't see us ordering from here again.

Just moved to the neighborhood, food is good and hot, the lady at the counter was friendly and our order was ready in less than 10 minutes!

This place has been my go-to spot for Chinese food for a while, prior to it being a "Lucky Garden". Food is your typical Chinese takeout but delivery is so damn fast. Literally, made the order by phone and it came to my door in 10 mins. How's that possible?! Good nonetheless. Not super greasy but still normal.

Just ordered chicken & broccoli lunch special with extra garlic sauce & a small wonton soup. There wasn't any garlic sauce on the dish & when I called back to complain & ask for the order to be corrected, the lady at front desk became rude. She demanded that we pay an bextra dollar after already paying for what we ordered & tipped the driver extra. Then the lady proceeded to tell me what I was going to & needed to do (which was a big mistake on her part). I am disappointed because I always visit this spot when I do my laundry across the street & I had considered them to be one of the best in the area. In addition, I always gave my friends & family referrals to this place. However, poor customer service & foul behavior trumps all of this. They deserve zero stars & they should know word of mouth generates most business & this is business that they will no longer receive from me. I am utterly disgusted with my experience.

My husband and I moved back to the Rox area last year and were looking for a good Chinese take-out place. We tried a few that came recommended, but they were all ho-hum. I found this on Seamless and gave it a try and it's been our go-to ever since. It's pretty standard Chinese takeout, but like others have said, man do they deliver quickly! The food is good, the service is fast, and I can't complain about the pricing, either.

Before I ever went in, I had low expectations for this place. Even when I dared to duck inside, I was put off by the slight dinginess of the place, as well as the menu pictures taken in the 1980's. But in all fairness, this is takeout Chinese in my 'hood within drunken walking distance. So I have to give them a chance. I ordered the General Tso's chicken combo which came with steamed (or fried, your choice) rice and a fried egg roll. No soup, but it was only $7.45 after tax and I wasn't really up for egg drop soup anyway, 10 minutes later, after a brief trip to the Wawa across the street to pick up dessert, my food was ready. My reactions were as follows: Oooh, steamed broccoli. Hmm, this looks like a pretty decent sauce. Nice hunks of chicken. Oh wow, that's delicious. I ate half of my meal that night (the egg roll was incredible, I normally don't even eat those), and the rest made terrific lunch leftovers the next day. Yes, it is your typical MSG-laden fried greasy American Chinese affair, but it's good. Plus, they do their delivery in a Toyota Prius. And your eggroll comes in a bag with the title "Golden Bag" on it. Can't beat that for seven bucks.

Terrible. Just ordered from here on a Sunday afternoon, and it took them more than 50 minutes when we live less than half a mile. Ordered my favorite dish from other Chinese restaurants, and what they delivered is beyond gross. Pale, gelatinous, and the chicken is slimy. Tried to call them up and explain that this is not what I ordered, and they quickly told me that this is exactly what I ordered and hung up. Never ordering from here again.

There are three other Chinese take-out places I can think of off the top of my head between my apartment and Lucky Garden, but this one takes the cake for me. On the outside it looks like any typical Chinese take-out and the inside is just about as un-welcoming as most of the others in this area, but that sweet girl behind the counter (I really wish I knew her name but at this point it'd be too awkward for me to ask) is one of the sweetest people I've met in Philly so far. Even the first time I ever ordered from this place which was maybe back in October of 2010 she was there and treated me like she knew me from the start. Then, last week I went in at 3:35pm on a Tuesday knowing I missed the lunch special hours, but she still gave me the lunch special price on the General Tso's chicken! She told me since she knows me and that I come in often she'll always honor it if I'm late, which is amazing since I really only do Chinese maybe twice a month and it isn't always from here. I've only ever had the General Tso's chicken and pork with garlic sauce, but they both are definitely worth going back for. If you don't ask for the General Tso's chicken to be cooked crispy, it's usually soggy, but if you ask for it crispy it's amazing. I usually order the white rice with the meal instead of the pork fried because for some reason I have a thing for white rice. I usually take the egg roll instead of the can of soda because Wawa is a 30-second walk from this place so I walk over there and get a fountain soda while they're cooking it. It's just a win-win situation for me!

Honestly, I'm not sure what all the hype is about this place. I looked it up on both Google and Yelp after I placed my order and my food arrived, and I can't fathom the good ratings. Last night I arrived home late after a flight. I pulled out my "folder-o-takeout-menus" and thought I dialed Shan Chuan (in East Falls). I ordered the Mushu Pork, Pork with Garlic Sauce, Hot and Sour Soup, and the Sesame Noodles Appetizer (there were two of us and we wanted left overs for lunch). I went to order a Dragon Roll too, but the woman said they didn't make sushi. Confused I flipped the menu over and saw it was for Lucky Garden. OOPS! Not a big deal though, I hadn't eaten their food yet, so I thought eh.. what the hay Chinese is Chinese. 45 minutes later the guy dropped off our food. I pulled out the Hot and Sour Soup and see the color-- its almost the color of egg drop with a little tint of brown. I thought maybe they're just having a bad soup night, or maybe their soup just sucks and to avoid it. Either way I shrugged it off. Everything else looked great in the little plastic take out containers. I was a little disappointed by the way they packaged the pancakes for the Mushu Pork (in saran wrap?)-- but each place is different. I poured the soup into some bowls and put in the table. I went to plate the sesame noodles. They were pretty much one giant mass of noodle stuck together. After fighting with them for a few minutes I had some on my plate. Next was the Pork with Garlic Sauce. It looked beautiful, and the sauce was brown as it should be. I asked for it extra spicy and was surprised that I saw no little red peppers, but again each place is different. Last was the Mushu Pork. It was dry and mostly cabbage. I unrolled the pancakes to spread on the hoysin, and it they were equally as dry (almost brittle to the point where they broke apart). Now comes the fun part-- eating it: 1. The Hot and Sour was as disappointing as I'd thought. It had almost no flavor what so ever, with a slight sense of hot. 2. The Sesame Noodles were OK, aside from not being able to eat them without having giant clumps stuck together. I thought the sesame noodles tasted sweeter than other places, I think they put sugar in the sauce. 3. The Mushu Pork was dry and flavorless (unless you like the taste of sour kraut, because it tasted like they used that instead of Chinese cabbage). The pancake virtually disintegrated by the time I went to eat it-- I guess it was so dry it absorbed all of the hoysin and broke apart. It was also very sweet (?). 4. The Pork with Garlic Sauce: AWFUL. Complete letdown which was a shame because the vegetables were so brightly colored and perfectly steamed. The pork tasted kind of old/frozen, like maybe it was just defrosted after sitting in a freezer for a few months and then sliced and cooked. The sauce was not spicy at all, and it tasted like molasses it was so sweet. In the end, I barely made it through my meal. We ended up throwing ALL of the left overs in the garbage it was so awful. After wards, we tossed their menu into the garbage, so in the event I'm tired and or drunk dialing for food I don't happen to make the same mistake again. Bottom Line: If you like HORRIBLE Chinese, this place is for you. If you like good Chinese and you're in the Roxborough/East Falls area I recommend Kings Palace or Shan Chuan (or Ruby will also do in a pinch).

I was in the mood for Chinese and decided to try delivery from Lucky Garden, since I recently picked up their menu at my PO. Box. I ordered a Chicken Won ton soup (I don't eat beef or pork) and it was definitely hearty . . .lots of egg and lots of chicken, yum. I also ordered a "Crispy Spring Roll", and was disappointed. I've had way better and there was nothing crispy about it. Also, ordered Chicken with Garlic Sauce for an entree. It was not very garlic or "hot" (I like mine extra hot and spicy, should have specified), it definitely had a ginger taste that actual made it taste a little more "gourmet" for a Chinese take out place. Overall, the service was fast and friendly and I will order again, but still looking for that one spot that gets everything right all the time when I get a hunger for Chinese . . . I know its out there!

Innocuous entry into the chinese take-out realm. Average food. Patron area looks clean and neat. The woman taking orders was pleasant, the man (cook, owner?) wished me a good night. Egg roll was a little to greasy. I was disappointed that the dinner combo didn't come soup, but not a biggie. Update: I would avoid the beef. After many visits over several year, this is one item they do not do well. It's extremely chewy and pink on the inside. Inedible.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
