It's too popular. You wouldnt like it. yeah, yeah that's it. yes. I wouldnt lie. It's terribly inexpensive and not inferior to any of those other taco places around this area. You'd hate it. Trust me. TRUST ME (hard stare). The staff is generally not hip or insensitive to your needs. The brunch is disturbingly indulgent, you will not leave feeling less than over full. Avoid it for that alone. You'll have money left over if you make their happy hour. Their guac will make you SO disappointed... at many other restaurants. Don't get ruined, stay away. It's crowded because people hate it.

Rarely do you find quality fare with lost cost- this place however sets the standard! Not only do the tacos range from $1.85-$3.00 each, the taste is superb! Do yourself a favor and visit this place! It is a quaint space and the decor makes you feel like you stepped into a friend's cozy basement. I had the grapefruit soda and it paired well with my selection of tacos (fish and seitain/mushroom). Service was good, no complaints. I will DEFINITELY be returning in the near future, maybe I'll get a burrito next time!

This place is PERFECT. Based on the reviews they may not need to hear it again but honestly this place is so ideal. It is so good that my boyfriend and I ate here twice this week upon discovering it when we were passing through the area (I know we are late to the party on this one here). First of all! The margs here don't skimp on the booze and they are about $2 cheaper than what I have encountered in my Mexican culinary adventures in Philadelphia. I will say I am not a major fan of the impala, I don't think I like the tequila they use in that one....but the coupe de ville marg is seriously dangerous, its so good. Now on to the food! I got the seitan and spinach tacos both times I came here and both times I had to double check my food to make sure it was seitan. Like these taste like chicken they're delicious and the seitan is deceptively un chewy, something I rarely encounter when I eat seitan. The atmosphere is rad, like a cool dive bar that could be in Philly or Silver Lake, Los Angeles. Music is on point, they played Stone Temple Pilots last night while I annihilated my 3 tacos in probably under 5 minutes. It was one of the highlights of my weekend.

Quite a hike for us - since we are closer to old city - but was definitely worth the cab ride. Mixed drinks were excellent - i especially liked the monte carlo. Shot of tequila given with a chaser of bloody mary mix (something like that). Food was awesome - we tried every kind of taco there as well as the burrito. Its a very chilled out place - good for groups as well as families. definitely going to try and go back

I gotta give props to Yelp for Loco Pez - because honestly, without Yelp, and my food blogs, I would NEVER have found this place. It's in a part of the city I don't usually trek to, but I dragged a few friends here recently, and I think I will be going here more often. The vibe is very fishtown - young, hipster crowd. The bar is long and narrow - and there are some great bar tables to sit at. We waited for a tad for a table of three (all booths in the back) - and the host was GREAT about keeping us informed. The bartender gave us some FANTASTIC blood orange margaritas while we were waiting - and I must say, having had a few of these in my times, these were possibly the best I've ever had. HANDS DOWN. The cups are lined with salt, and CINNAMON! Making drink taste delicious. When we were seated, we ordered from a great menu - which I must say, is really how all menu's at Mexican places should look. You decide what fillings you want, and what iteration of Mexican food you want (burrito, quesadilla, enchilada, tacos, etc.), and then they give you just that. There are standard apps like nachos (which were pretty darn bangin I must say - really well made, fresh, and definitely tasted like they made their own chips, which I respect), and guac, etc. I tried the quesadilla - which was pretty amazing. I had them with mushroom, spinach and seitan for a dollar more - and they were not too filled, had a great amount of cheese, and held up pretty well despite how much was inside of them. I tried the enchiladas (mushroom) - and quite frankly, I was pretty impressed with those too. I think I will be heading out here more often. It's WELL DONE Mexican - which is pretty rare around these parts!

I finally came back for $1 taco day during happy hour, and it was the best decision ever. Nachos are only $4, and still as huge, impalas (margaritas) are also $4, and the tacos were $1. My friend and I were so full afterwards that we literally waddled back to Berks station. I'm not the biggest fan of their tacos, but the NACHOS, the nachos!! I will be coming back for their happy hour all the time now. Did I mention that I love the music they play in here? Loco Pez is now one of my favorite Philly spots.

Compared to most 'Mexican' places that are really just tex-mex, I find Loco Pez to be 'muy authentico' (mind you as Public Health professional, I don't tend to frequent REALLY authentic places as I fear bad sanitary practices). I'm biased because they do an amazing job on all my favorite Mexican foods (see below : ) Strong margaritas which are decently priced (even better during happy hour), and lots of interesting specialty margs. I usually go with the 'Impala' i.e. Classic, or the Coupe De Ville (be careful, the salt mix they use with that one has some kick to it). Best guacamole I can remember in Philly (chunky, not too much cilantro). Best nachos (I love refried beans with mine), and great salsas. I really love the chipotle and tomatilo salsas! They are small, and tend to fill up, so go early, or late. Also, Cash only, but worth it.

I was holding out on writing a Loco Pez review until I had the opportunity to get there for dinner/happy hour. (I live up the street and we tend to do the Sunday-morning-hungover-stumble over to Loco Pez for a recovery Bloody Mary at brunch). I love/hate you, Loco Pez Happy Hour. Why would you make your delicious margaritas $4? I was hurting the next day, but in a "hurts so good" kind of way. Oh, and the $4 nachos. Don't even get me started. I usually get pissed off when people order nachos because I hate the shitty, soggy mess they become and I think it's a waste of money, but Loco Pez's nachos are ON POINT. And for 4 bucks!! Someone mentioned that it's not for more conservative folks. Good. More margs and nachos for this bitch.

I gotta give props to my fellow Yelp peeps because all your positive reviews convinced me to stop here to grab a quick dinner before a show. And when I say quick, I'm not exaggerating in the least. I ordered three chicken enchiladas and the bartender set them down in front of me before I got more than a sip of my half-off, Happy Hour margarita into my system. I swear it was less than two minutes between ordering and eating. He said that was super quick, even for them. But they were actually very tasty as well, with a little spicy kick to the shredded chicken, just how I like. After an eventual second margarita, I paid my inexpensive bill (cash only) and was on my way. Loco Pez = Loco Efficient

We came in the late evening on a Friday night for some drinks and were able to get seats at the bar pretty quickly. We had actually put our name in for a table (there was a 30 minute wait at 10pm) but took advantage at the bar. We tried a few of the margaritas- the Regal had salt, lime, and grapefruit soda and was a little salty for my taste and needed more grapefruit (though it seemed to even out as I drank it). It would have been better probably if it had muddled grapefruit like the El Dorado- which also had mezcal and habanero and was way too smoky and strong for my palate but the boys loved it! We weren't planning to eat anything but were considering some nachos when the bartender cut in and told us that you can have any of the nachos made with waffle fries instead of tortilla chips and that sealed the deal for us. We ordered the Nachos de Kenzo with waffle fries. The Nachos de Kenzo were supposed to have carne asada, pollo, and chorizo but I didn't see any chorizo on ours. The meats were really tender and delicious though and it was awesome to have the melted cheese and queso fresco. They also had fresh guacamole on them. The whole platter was freaking huge and 4 of us barely finished it. Definitely a good late night food option. Overall the one bartender was super nice and helpful and we enjoyed our time at Loco Pez. They have such a huge bar with so many liquors that I almost feel like they should create some cocktails that aren't margaritas but it's nice that you could order almost any drink you'd like. They had TONS of whiskeys available. My only bone to pick is the cash only status. Seriously...these days you can pay a parking meter and buy an antique from a flea market in the middle of nowhere with a credit card...just get a credit card machine already. I don't like to carry lots of cash around and businesses like this are not going to see me as often because I'd rather use a card. Cash only is not cool.

I feel so lucky to have found this place. I recently moved to Philadelphia from Los Angeles and was in dire need of an al pastor taco. Loco Pez is the most authentic taqueria I've found in philly thus far. Great scene, great prices, generally a pretty friendly staff totally worth the trek.

Coming from California near the mexico boarder, I was excited to try this place out. Came in, and was amused by their decor based on a play on words. However, was not amused by our server, nor did she seem amused by anything. I felt like I was talking to an emotionless robot. Food? Nachos were ON POINT. Full of flavor, good size, and not overly cooked. Tacos are on the smaller side, so you may need to order about 10 to be full. Burritos were also a bit on the smaller side for the $10 price tag. Shrimp was good, but al pastor was dry. All in all, still one of the better places to go for mexican food in philly!

Worth it for the happy hour, but would not come here and pay full price. Classic marg is pretty good, nachos are pretttyyyy good. Tacos are ok (I have had the mushroom, chorizo and potato, seitan, and al pastor) but the tacos are like super small mini tacos. Appropriate when 1$ but not as much otherwise. 4$ nachos during happy hour and a marg makes a great meal that your stomach will hate you for later.

Not hard to miss they have a big bright sign despite of the dark streets. Parking here is a hit and miss they have a nice bar friendly staff great selection of drinks food for a 5-6 people or just by twos . You can come here to drink or just eat it's a nice environment for both. The feel is very pub like but way more warm and the food aroma is the air! Makes you hungry! The front of the restaurant is a bar the back is the restaurant. The customer service is awesome! The bartender today was so funny! Nice and he really makes good drinks no complains. Now let's talk about the food Food was so and so I think it's overhyped the pork shoulder and ground pork were so dry!!!!!! So disappointing. The sauces were good but it doesn't compensate for the tasteless dry meat. The fish taco was too fishy!!!!!! I don't know how that happened because ahi tuna on tacos are usually not fishy. The American style taco was passable i just thought that this place will be that good because of the rating.

This place is another breath of fresh air for the area. It should be considered at the level of Green Rock Tavern and Memphis Taproom. The draft selection is quality and the food is delicious. Each table gets three different kinds of spicy salsa to go with their food. There is a mild one with a hint of pineapple, a medium one with tormatillo and jalapeno, and a spicy one with chipotle. They are all delicious. The burger is so buttery and delicious and comes with a mountain of waffle fries . It's only six bucks!!! The pico de gallo salsa was awesome too. The biggest shock was how good the TVP taco was...It was banging.

Being from LA, I never knew how much I missed good Mexican food until I moved to the east coast. I've been on the east since early 2008 and I'm always on the lookout for a good Mexican restaurant. Which surprisingly is kind of hard to find. In LA, it was given that any Mexican restaurant that is actually run by Mexicans would be pretty good. But in the east coast, especially in the Princeton area, that was not always the case. So when my bro in-law and his girlfriend suggested Loco Pez, I immediately looked it up on Yelp and was excited by the 4 star average it received from over 130 reviews. The décor is very hip and trendy and they have what looks like a full bar. There's bar seating and some high tables next to the bar as well as a main seating area in the 4 booths and a couple of tables. Its not the biggest place so it may not be good for big groups. They have a pretty decent vegetarian option which worked out well for us since one of us doesn't eat meat. Our group ordered the nachos with soy chorizo to share which was very good. I ordered the carne asda burrito which was also very good. The meat was well seasoned and very tasty. My only complaint was that the tortilla was over cooked and a little crispy. But that may be a person preference. Also, I wished my burrito was a little bigger for the price I paid. Others in our group ordered the shrimp and fist tacos. They liked them but wished they knew they had the option to have the meat grill instead deep fried. The service was excellent and very attentive. Our food came out promptly and drinks were always full. Overall, it was a very good dining experience. 4 stars for decor 4 stars for service 5 stars nachos, 3-4 stars for tacos and burritos. 4 stars for cleanliness

Came by last night for a bite after the Phils game. We had been drinking for the better part of the evening and by 11:30p, we really just wanted some food. We grabbed a high-top, and the waitress came over with menus. The place had a pretty good crowd for 11:30p on a Tuesday night! She seemed almost thrown by the simplicity of our order- 3 tacos each and chips and salsa... and a check... oh and lots of water... and no booze. We just kind of ignored her hesitation. The food came out- the tacos are the lil 3 inch guys... which was just fine by me as I got 3 of them and didn't want to go to bed stuffed, but it's good to know if you go in there super-hungry. The veggie chorizo was surprisingly my favorite. With the raddish and lime, and the condiments provided, it really had a kick to it that i enjoyed. The mushroom one had some texture issues in my opinion. I typically love mushrooms, but it got the shell a big soggy, and then kinda wiggled their way out of the soft taco shell. Tasewise, this one could have benefitted from some cheese too, but it wasn't half bad. Especially not for $1.25! Finally, I had the spinach and seitan taco, and this one was pretty amazing. Seitan has a place in my heart as my favorite veggie protein and this taco was pretty memorable. The chips were crispy, the salsa was more in line wtih pico de gallo- which i consider better anyway etc. The decor of this place is awful... but in an amazing way. It is reminiscent of a 1950 grandmothers house... purchased by some trendy punk rockers and spruced up. It definitly feels old inside, but I like it. I was particularly drawn to the Pez dispenser collection. Oh yeah- 1 last thing- Cash only! Many cute little monikers around the joint reminding you in less-than-polite, but quintessentially Philly style that your credit card won't get you very far in here. It's a block from my best friends place, the prices are cheap, the food is good, I'll be back.

This is the WORST bar, I've ever been to, and I've been to Ia., Va, Ms, La, Ohio, NJ, Md, Mn, Il.. pretty much I've been all over. For one, when I walked in there, I had to wait over three minutes before I was acknowledged because all three bartenders were at the end of the bar socializing instead of tending to their patrons. Strike ONE! After all of that I was finally approached, after having to yell down the bar and meet them halfway before being asked what I wanted. I asked the cost of their Long Island Iced Teas and this frigid idiot of a bartender states she doesn't know AND they didn't have Lemon Squirt so she had to put O.J. in it! No price fix or anything! Strike TWO Mind you, the only reason I came to this bar was because I was at a friends house waiting for them so I figured I'd kill some time. Oh wait, let me take aback a little. they charged me before even giving me my drink, but when I noticed the ladies sitting next to me, they were charged AFTERWARDS! Strike THREE But by this time I already paid for my much needed drink. All during my episode there, I wasn't tended to, or checked on, Nothing. Like I said, I've been to bars, I know the routine: Greet, Take order, Check on patron a few times and send the bills. Basic protocol. Get this, when another set of patrons who resembled very much the same patrons who didn't have to pay until they were about to leave, entered the bar, they were greeted INSTANTLY! Checked on, the whole nine. Mind you these patrons could never be mistaken for being a member of my family, if you know what I mean. So that was an issue that came to mind and I will continue to suspect. I have video of the whole experience. I wish I could post it here to show you how this chick really had me feeling as if I was a fly on the wall. I know anyone who is a native of Fishtown would ask, whats a guy like yourself expect when entering a bar out there? But money is green and that should be the ONLY color involved and concerned with. I dont care what these other posts say about their menu and prices because the service SUCKS. And when youre dealing with the public, you should be EQUAL, friendly and informative.

All you could ask for at a divy looking Mexican bar...descent price, awesome taste, and the taco's are made with real corn meal, so they are Gluten Free. The Al pastor and pollo taco's are awesome. Definitely opt for the red or green rice as a side. They opened my eyes to what a little bit of lime juice and radish can do with the taco flavors. The only complaint I have is that there are often flies buzzing around the back because of the side door always opening and closing. It adds to the ambience of a little south american taco joint, but can get annoying after a bit! Beware it's cash only, so bring your own to avoid the ATM surcharge!

Can't go wrong with the food, everything is good, love to get the chicken nachos at brunch, also love the margaritas with the chipolte infused tequila. Would be great if they started accepting credit cards, but will still go because it is that yummy.

Loco Pez is loco-good. From walking through the doors and casting on eyes on the cautionary message: "Cash only, bitches. Si, putos, tengo ATM!," I knew we were in for an irreverent good time. (Though it's worth noting that I probably would go 5 stars if it weren't for the cash-only thing....putos!) I was immediately struck, after being seated, by two positives: 1) the menu offers a handful of great choices that are very inexpensive, and 2) our waitress was unbelievably nice. It's amazing how much an upbeat server who appears to like his/her job can make a restaurant experience. I got the volcano burrito, which was very good. A small critique is that, if it's possible for a dish to have too much cheese, and I'm not sure that it is, this burrito may have been near that threshold. Also, it wasn't that hot, but they give you a ton of delicious sauces, some of them homemade, to spicy it up. I also got the diablo black beans, which were awesome. The guacamole was also fantastic. I hereby dedicate this paragraph to the bloody mary. It was one of the best ones I've had in a long time. It is quite spicy, which I love, and they accent it with cumin and chili powder to give it a Mexican feel. Highly recommend it. Bonus: they had a pinball machine in the back that somehow had 3 free plays loaded up. So each of us played a round on our trips to the bathroom. I can't wait to come back here and try the brunch.

Your typical fishtown hipster vibe, with that said, it is still an awesome place! The food is great, why I love it so much..they offer hard shell tacos! Believe me, very hard to come by. In addition, they prices are awesome and the staff is friendly Great local hang out! I've been about 5 times and cant wait to get back!

Amazingly delicious tacos. Being from Arizona, I'm glad to recently see some palatable Mexican restaurant pop up in the city. This just happens to be one of them. The happy hour here is killer with $4 nachos and $2 taco Tuesdays. Coupled with the $4 beers and margaritas you seriously can't miss with this one. Fishtown in starting to be a Mexican culinary destination, which is exciting. If you are looking for satisfying cheap eats, this is a winner every time.

One of the best Mexican places in philly. Their tacos are amazing especially the shrimp. They have delicous nachos that are perfect to split. They have great margaritas and the staff is always friendly. It gets very crowded though and it is cash only. Having a Mexican craving? This place will not disappoint!

Best dam nachos in town! This place is a dream for anyone who likes nachos. The toppings are piled high and definitely something you can share. The tacos are also yummy, I love the fried chicken taco and you can't go wrong with the street taco with ground beef. If your in Fishtown this place is worth the trip.

Wow, had a taco feast; chicken, beef, pork, pork shoulder, and shrimp. With "Devil Beans" and Guacamole. It was a tasty treat. Only complaints was the amount Guacamole and the quality of the tortilla chips. BTW, margaritas were bangin'

Loco Pez never fails to please, it's a regular spot for me. They tend to be busy most times I go there but since I prefer to sit at the bar it's never a problem. The bartenders at Loco Pez are almost always swamped but you wouldn't know it since they're so attentive and on the ball. The food is always good though I only stick to tacos and nachos. Margarita's are delish. If I want mexican food this is my go to spot.

It's a great bar with great food and a great atmosphere. Though loud, it isn't meant for any thing but fun! Not a place for serious conversation or a business meeting. I went on a Wednesday might for dollar tacos, and all of mine were artfully prepared. Pork, chorizo and potato, and fish and shrimp were very tasty. I like the single tacos too, great for a taste or a complete meal. Beer list is great too. Not a dealbreaker, but had a bartender who didn't address me personally and merely gestured. I could do without the cash only (and bragging about it) as well as the raunchy decor in the bathrooms.

Admittedly, Loco Pez and I had some rough spots. It was early on, and I was holding grudges about the cash only part and poor service from people who no longer work there. I have let go of all grudges, and now I'm obsessed. It's so nice (and dangerous) to have really yummy tacos and beer so near my house. The happy hour is kick ass with cheap nachos (that don't feel skimped either just because it's happy hour). The salsas are all so good, and I'm pretty sure I can down an entire appetizer portion of the guacamole all by myself (and in only a few minutes). I've gotten to the point where I'm okay with waiting a little to be able to get a table here, though I look forward to the expansion because it's just too dang small for all the greatness it holds within.

Being a Fishtown newb, this was a good start. I was a little skeptical as i made my way through the curtain, but once inside I was pretty comfortable. I ordered the Monte Carlo [Margarita?not sure or is it just a cocktail more likely?] It was chipotle pepper infused tequila and hibiscus water and something else I can't remember. It was delicious! I kept licking my lips. The savory after-note to the drink is marvelous! They did have a Guava and hibiscus water one too, I will have to try that next time! So coming down to the food, i'm a taco-girl. I honestly wanted to try all of them, but had to limit myself [self-respect, if any] to 3: Carne Asada, Grouper(Pez) and Mushrooms[my semi-vegetarian friends convinced me]. The Grouper was amazing, Carne Asada juicy and Mushroom a pleasant surprise. My friend got a pork burrito and said it was pretty damn good [i dint try it, as I don't eat pork, but i trust his judgement]. So where do they loose a star? Portioning. I wish their tacos were a taaaad bigger or had 2 tortillas or something. Some complimentary chips maybe? I don't know but something. BEWARE! Cash only. I was so embarrassed when i proudly took my card out. Apparently Fishtown is not card-friendly. P.S: Try allllll their sauces they give u in the basket! Each one is better than the other!

This place is super hip, no doubt about it. Kind of a dinery feel with "Cash Only Bitches" written anywhere it can be, Loco Pez was a place I've been trying to get to forever. Is there any convenient way to get to Kensington? Had three tacos and shared black beans and rice with the group. The fish was my favorite. Seitan and spinach and mushroom were tasty as well, but DAMN if those tacos weren't the tiniest tacos I've ever seen. Tacos for babies. And at $2~ each, it adds up. Black beans were pureed- I would have eaten it like soup if I wasn't sharing with the table. Rich flavor and a tiny kick, yum. Rice was rice. Chips were good, and even better with guac. Also, this place is CLEAN. The bucket that carried three squirt bottles of hot sauces was spotless. No crusty containers, no sticky fingers. Bravo. I'm looking forward to coming back for happy hour.

Loco Pez is one of my favorite places to eat and drink in Fishtown. It has a nice warm hipstery vibe without trying too hard. The matgaritas are on point and I would recommend trying ALL OF THEM...eventually. Sometimes it can get a bit hectic if it's crowded and the hostess may or may not forget about you but it's worth the wait. The nachos here are amazing as well as the quesadillas and tacos. The tacos are bite size but delicious and super affordable on $1 taco night. Their brunch is also really delicious with really tasty breakfast burritos and juevos rancheros. I know it's cash only (b*tches) but I wish they took credit/debit cards because they're getting really popular and I'm sure they can afford the fees.

We came by on a Saturday night at 7pm and had no problem grabbing a spot. We started with an order of the Nachos, which were generously portioned and topped. Our waitress waited patiently for us to finish them before bringing out our tasty Pez Tacos (definitely on the smaller side as reflected by the price point) and our Cochinita Pibil Enchiladas. Overall, solidly good food and nice service.

This place is a good addition to Fishtown. The margaritas are solid, there's a good beer list, and the service is usually very friendly and quick. It's in a great location, and the soy chorizo they use in tacos and burritos is devilishly delicious. Spiciest bloody mary ever, too. Unfortunately, it's usually heinously crowded. It's loud, and the nachos are pretty gross - cheese is not gooey, chips are not crispy, toppings don't seem that fresh. Every time I eat one, it makes me kinda sorta wish I'd gone to Dos Segundos... $1 tacos aren't really an amazing deal if you don't eat meat. Also: cash only!

The nachos, margaritas, and tacos were fantastic. We have been wanting to try Loco Pez for quite a while and we're glad we finally did! We made it for the last 10 minutes of Saturday happy hour, which included $2 off specialty cocktails. I had heard nachos were discounted for happy hour, but no dice. Oh well...they were delicious regardless! We got what I'd call the fancy nachos (had chicken, beef, chorizo, and guac). The only disappointing part of our meal was the guac...just wasn't great. Be prepared to come home in a food and booze coma. Not a place to visit when you have to be productive after. So tasty!

The happy hour margaritas and nachos are awesome. The nachos! The calories are all worth it. The chips are not thick cut, but stay crispy even under the cheese-salsa-guac-meat blanket. The $1 tacos are not every day, but announced on Twitter, which sucks for me because I don't Twitter/tweet. My favorite taco was the Carne Asada out of the Pez, Al Pastor, Chorizo/Potato. The tacos themselves were small, with a decent amount of meat. Tasty, those were. Seriously, GET THE NACHOS!

Loco Pez might not be the first option that comes to mind for Mexican in the city, but it fits a good niche. Great cocktails, cheap street-style food, and a respectable brunch round out the helpful service and hipster atmosphere of this Fishtown cash-only joint. Their Monte Carlo (chipotle tequila, hibiscus, lime) is quite strong with a bracing chipotle kick at the outset followed by a smooth, subtly sweet floral finish. Worth ordering and one of the more complex concoctions I've tasted in quite some time. The chips seem freshly fried, and pair nicely with both acidic pico and the sauces from the table (all were solid, but the thicker smoky-spicy red was the best). The chicken and waffle brunch special sounded enticing, so I went with that. It greeted me with four large pieces of shatteringly crisp chicken in a coating that tasted of chipotle pepper. Served atop four ideally sweet waffles generously ladled with spicy, rich chorizo gravy, it was a balanced, filling sweet-savory dish. Though my companion's seitan spinach burrito needed some livening up with the table sauces, it still was akin to Chipotle in terms of size and satiation while tasting better than many other burritos in the city. The damage per dish was less than $12, the margarita was $6, and the chips were $3. We were stuffed and remained so for some time, making Loco Pez a great value. Definitely worth patronizing when in the mood for Mexican brunch or just solid, street-style fare in a low fuss atmosphere.

$4 Nachos at Happy Hour were DELICIOUS! I woke this morning thinking about them... We tried 4 different tacos: pez, chorizo & potato, cochinita pibil, and camarones. All were delicious but my favorite were the fish tacos.

I love this place. Hilary is our favorite server. I love the shrimp tacos and the enchiladas...definitely worth the price since you get a lot of food! My only complaint is that it's always crowded and there isn't outdoor seating.

I went on a Saturday mid-afternoon. It wasn't too busy, but they had steady business. The margaritas are delicious, and the enchiladas were very good too. I also got the chips and salsa. The salsa is amazing. Both the enchiladas and the chips and salsa were large portions, so I was only able to eat half, and I took the rest home with me.

Loco Pez is my favorite place to go. It's better than work and closer than the beach. It's only a block from my house, actually. Which makes it extra good. All the food is delicious. Try their brunch, too! The only thing I've ever had there that I didn't like was a mescal drink that they promptly replaced after seeing my facial expression.

As with every Philadelphia popular restaurant, I'm sad to say this place has gone downhill. I still love their nachos and salsa (delicious). Their tacos used to be my favorite. It seems like they started slopping them together lately, looking more like a prison taco night than anything. The tacos drip oil all over which they didn't used to. I hope they get their act together, because I really used to enjoy my meals here.

I usually only come here when they have $1 taco nights. The tacos are tiny so I don't see a point of spending more than a $1 for them. I've had a burrito here as it was ok just a bit salty. Service here is very hit or miss it seems. You either have a very awesome bartender or one who hates being there. loco pez isn't my favorite place to go but it is a decent fishtown hipster bar

I used to live the next block over from this place. We would stand on our roof and see how long the wait was before going in. $1 tacos are great. Waits are not. Drinks are decent. Prices are alright. Service is usually decent. Pez tacos and witty signs around the restaurant are great. Make a mean Al Pastor taco. Brunch meals are alright. Not taking cash is never my favorite but I handle it. Let's end this with a positive. Get the Kensington Nachos.

The food is actually pretty good. My only beef is the rude staff(the reason I haven't been back). Treat your customers better and I might come back.

I miss living so close to Loco pez, which was my weekly taco Tuesday joint. The soy chorizo and mushroom tacos are some of the tastiest in Philly, I believe. The bartenders and staff are always super friendly. If you come around happy hour, be prepared to wait for a table because this place gets packed.

This place was pretty cool. Definitely a hole in the wall kind of place. Went to brunch with two of my friends. We got mimosas and they were purple which I thought was a little bit different. I got waffles with caramel and apples. It was pretty good but nothing to go out of your way for. Can get a bit crowded in there too.

I don't get the hype on this place. It was good, but it's sorta dumpy and dive-y. Which is fine, but you're paying premium prices for food and alcohol for small portions. Burritos are what, $10? Most mexican restaurants give you a $10 burrito and it's huge. I housed it like nothing, then got the $10 chips and guac, which again, was amazing but it's not enough. I could probably eat 10 tacos. The food is good, but with my appetite, I can't afford to eat here.

Tacos are SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO GOOD. Service is great. Ambience is divey but lovable. I recommend the Gabacho (the Gabacho can also be made with the soy chorizo which is still awesome), chicken taco, mushroom taco, and the spinach taco. Don't hate me, but I believe this is the BEST taco place in Philadelphia. And anyone who gave Loco Pez anything less than 4 stars has confused taste buds.

Cheap delicious tacos and wonderful tequila drinks!! Do I need to continue with this review? Loco Pez is the most fun I've ever had eating tacos while drinking massive amounts of tequila. This little Fishtown eatery is the hangout spot for many of the locals, locals who know how to make everyone feel welcome. The food is fairly damn close to the LA mexican I grew up on. NYC, where I live now, has failed at many attempts to gourmet-ize street Mexican food where Loco Pez pretty much kept the true flavors it's known for. And if you're looking for cheap eats, 4 yummy tacos will cost you less than a burger and fries at most fast food chains. If you're a tequila drinker, there are dozens of varieties on the menu. They have great specialty cocktails and the bar staff is hip cool, not hipster jerk. Every time I make it to Philly, I make sure to stop in for shrimp tacos and some crazy tequila cocktail. Trust me, this review isn't just the tequila talking.

The tacos here would be overpriced if it weren't for dollar taco day, but that's the only day I go. Sure, they're small, but that way, I can try like 6 of them, so I am not complaining! It gets crowded, but the staff is attentive and you're fine if you get there early. Order the nachos if you go to happy hour, or even if you don't because they are delicious! The drinks are all good and the decor is awesome too. The cash only thing is the only bummer, but it's worth it! Plus they have veggie-friendly options :)

I've been to Loco Pez 4 times and always on $1 taco day. The tacos that I've had have all been delicious, though looking at the regular prices, I think other places such at Honest Tom's would be better for your buck. That being said, NO ONE beats $1 tacos of this quality in Philly. I usually get 5-7 tacos and 1-3 beers during happy hour on 1$ taco day for about $13. The chicken taco is made with a marinated pulled chipotle chicken as opposed to the chopped dry breasts that other restaurants offer. My favorite are the shrimp tacos. Medium sized shrimp individually fried... just delicious. The Al pastor is delicious with pineapple and marinated pork. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes the bartenders are attentive, other times, gruff to flat out rude....but it is what it is when you're buying $1 tacos.

Absolutely amazing food. I love tacos, and when I come to Philly to visit friends this is always a requirement. Tacos and burritos always hit the spot. Brunch is also amazing combining the beat of all worlds.

Alcohol, tacos, nachos, burritos, happy hour , hipster ambiance , what more could you want ! This place is on a hidden corner in Fishtown, once we discovered it we couldn't stay away. It's always crowded with mostly college students so be ready to wait for a seat. But I promise it will be worth it . Like them on Facebook and you will receive notifications when they have dollar taco nights! They have the best nachos here as well, you will be picking the cheese off of the pan. They have nice strong margaritas as well. Highly recommended if your in the area.

After a 3 mile run on one of the recently crazy nice days we've had, the plan was to hit Loco Pez for some vegetarian fare. It was a Friday during Lent for our visit. I didn't know what to expect and I ended up pleasantly surprised. This place feels very Fishtown to me. Just off the beaten path (a few blocks from Frankford) it was relatively easy to secure a spot. When you walk in, you see an old-school long bar with the wall done up in Mexican luchador decoupage. I recently learned that word so it was funny to see it in action at LP. Sitting at the bar for happy hour was great. Cheap quality drinks and inexpensive delicious food. We got the house nachos and they were picture perfect when they arrived. Good layering, lots of accompaniments and went perfectly with my margarita. Next came the soy chorizo tacos and seitan & spinach tacos. Both were very tasty but the spice on the soy chorizo was excellent. Whoever put it together totally nailed it. The tortillas were small and they weren't filling or expensive. I can't wait to come back here and eat meat. I'm so psyched to try their other offerings.

Like many place in the Fishtown area, Loco Pez is best hit during happy hour. Their nachos are massive and excellent for the four dollar happy hour pricing, but I feel that their non-happy hour price of 10 bucks is a little absurd. Their tacos have quite the reputation, but again, I would only indulge in these if you happen to hit one of their unpredictable dollar taco nights. A peeve of mine, as an individual who isn't constantly glued to facebook, is that Loco Pez only advertises their dollar taco nights to those who follow their facebook page. They are not every week, and the day changes up randomly. They are cash only, which is a bit of a hang up as well. They have an ATM in the restaurant. I would not recommend getting their burritos, they are pretty tiny for how much they cost. Their beer list is average over priced Fishtown pricing, their normally priced margarita is around $8, which is a little steep considering alcohol content. Although I generally enjoy hanging out at Loco Pez, their interior can get extremely cramped during busy hours.

I stopped in here before the Yelp Elite event recently and I'm glad I did. The place has a very hipster vibe and seeing as how I'm not very hipster I did feel a little out of place at first, but once the smells from the kitchen hit me, I didn't care. I had the cochinita pibil quesadillas, which were three small quesadillas with cheese and the pork. They were deliciously cheesy and the pork was tender and spiced perfectly. I'm glad there were only 3 to an order because I was full when I was done, but I think I would have kept eating more if they were in front of me. I tried a little bite of the black beans and they were spicier than I thought beans should be, but tasty nonetheless. I kept attacking the chips bowl too which were still warm and salted perfectly. There were a bucket of sauces on our table, but nobody told us which sauce was what so we had to just kind of taste test them. Thankfully none of them were mouth-scorchingly spicy. Definitely a great meal and I'd love to get back here soon for happy hour!

I enjoyed myself at Loco Pez. Small neighborhood type spot with an eclectic decor. The food was was very good and the service was superb. They had the regular options for dishes, but the list of fillings was comprehensive. I housed the enchiladas filled with potato and chorizo. The dish came with the standard re fried beans and Spanish rice. The nachos shared by the table were excellent, right up there with the better spots in the city. The tacos are of the smaller variety, but the burrito was humongous. Order accordingly. The service was prompt and friendly, checked in on us frequently. I sipped a bit of the Margarita and thought it quite good, there was some kind of hot pepper in the salt rim, be advised. Loco Pez is too far from my house to be a regular but if I am in the area , I would make it a priority to stop in.

Loco Pez is my favorite bar that happens to serve the best tacos and amazing drinks. The Monte Carlo is my favorite drink to get. The bartenders are friendly, personable and are very attentive. I'm a bartender myself so I have a habit of noticing these types of characteristics when I'm at a bar. You can't beat the dollar taco night they have once a week. I suggest getting their early for a table or a seat at the bar. It gets very crowded on those nights.

What's the spanish word for efficient? I went back here the other night and let me just tell you: this place rocks. I gave four stars last time, but they've officially gone up a notch in my book because the bartenders here are on top of their shit. They made our drinks right away, the food came out quickly, and they even gave us free chips because we had some leftover guac. That probably doesn't sound like that big of a deal since it was just a basket of chips, but I appreciated their thoughtfulness. I'm certainly not an authority on Mexican food, but trust me anyway because my meal here was good. As if there weren't enough reasons to love this place, they still have an amazing happy hour special here (cheap mini tacos, $3 beers, $4 margaritas Monday through Friday). There's no excuse not to get up here and try this place out.

Loco Pez has delicious nachos and margaritas! The nachos are well plated so that the toppings are properly dispersed among the chips, and the salsas that come with them are all quite tasty, especially the salsa verde! The happy hour is excellent and the staff attentive too. I will be back for more!

Good: 1. A la carte Tacos - try all you want 2. Cochinita - slow-roasted pork - oh man 3. Good beer selection 4. Super casual Not so good: 1. Regular margarita is $6 (I think), wait for happy hour 2. That's all

I miss working five minutes from here, but my wallet and liver are probably grateful. Loco Pez has to lace all of their margaritas with some kind of crack or crack derivative because I can never leave without having more than three. This could also possibly be because I love (LOVE) tequila, but is most likely because of the awesome bartenders staffed here. My favorite: the El Dorado. Mezcal, Espolon Blanco, grapefruit, and fresh habanero. Smoky, spicy, and just sweet enough; in short, my kind of cocktail perfection. Their guac isn't my favorite, but give me some nachos, any burrito, and another excellent marg and I'll soon forget the transgression anyway. To echo other Yelpers, this place isn't for everyone. It's not because it's "Fishtown hipstery"--I've been here with hipsters and non-hipsters alike--it just isn't a place to take conservative folks. On Saturday night, a group of four older people were standing behind my place at the bar waiting for a table, and as they read the menu and came to the word "b*tches" illuminated above them they quickly headed across the street to Cedar Point. It's probably for the best none of them needed to use the restroom wallpapered in semi-nude Mexican cartoons. I love you, Loco Pez. You can call me a b*tch anytime.

I've been to Loco Pez a few times since it opened and it's really underwhelming. The food is OK but I'd expect larger portions for the cost. The main issue is the serious lack of seating and standing room. I've gone in with small groups and not only does it take forever to get a table (even when there are open tables) but there's nowhere to wait. The bar is small and fills up fast so if you're waiting you're stuck directly behind the people at the bar and directly in front of other tables with no room for people to walk through. Half the time I see people stuck standing in front of the bathroom door just because its out of the way of foot traffic. There are way better Tex-Mex or authentic Mexican restaurants within 10 blocks.

Loco Pez is a cool Mexican pub hangout. It seems to be crowded every night but if you can get there a little earlier, you not only get a place at the bar or a table, you get great Happy Hour prices. The Nachos de Kenzo are a mountain of taste .... def don't order them for one but share .... and maybe you'll have some room for some of the items on the menu. My fav is called a street dog. This is how a hot dog should taste . The location in a great neighborhood at an unique intersection where there seems to be streets radiating out in every direction is worth finding. Loco Pez is a thumbs up plus addition to the Philly scene.

It's nice to have another option for Mexican food in the NL/Fishtown area. We walked in around 8:30pm Friday night & were seated right away (there were plenty of open tables). We started out with the $8 nachos. Yum. Great nachos. It appears that they were arranged with care rather than just throwing a bunch of chips & messy cheese on a plate. I think they were covered in pico de gallo, cheddar cheese, a crumbly white cheese (cojita?), refried beans and crema. There was no description on the menu, but I figured out the difference between the $8 nachos and the more expensive Nachos de Kenzo by reading yelp reviews (thanks guys!). The tacos are TINY. I actually said 'aww baby tacos' when they came out. I was bordering on full from the nachos already, so I was ok with 3 little tacos. If you're planning on filling up on just tacos, you'll need more than 3. I had the pollo (very good), al pastor (VERY dry...not that I like fatty meat, but the pork was so dry that I needed to drink a bunch of water to get it to go down) and chorizo & potato (easily my favorite). The margarita was delicious but just a tad too tart. The beer selection is good, especially compared to other Mexican places that just offer standard Corona/Tecate/Dos Equis. It's a nice touch that they bring a bucket containing 3 types of salsa and 2 types of hot sauce to the table. The atmosphere is faux divey. I like the water glasses, they remind me of old school Pizza Hut glasses. I'll return to check out the Nachos de Kenzo. I do think they should add the nacho descriptions to the menu, and it would be nice if they offered free chips & salsa to start out the meal (like most other Mexican restaurants).

I feel like I have to review this place since I end up there way more than I'd like to admit. I live pretty much next door, it's dangerous. I'll keep it short and sweet: delicious food at a great price point, good drinks, and awesome staff. Dollar. Tacos. Love you Loco Pez. And I'm sure you know it. See you soon.

I find myself venturing to Loco Pez multiple times a week, the food is not only phenomenal but the staff is also very friendly and the bartenders are a riot. Food always come out quickly and the sauces are fresh and addicting that I order waffle fries mainly as a vessel for the sauce. Can't go wrong with the soy chorizo and mushroom tacos. Pair with a horchata and you'll be set for the night. I was there last night, will probably be there again tonight.

Some damn good Mexican food at the right size for the right price. The paz taco was amazing beyond amazing, and the chorizo and potato tacos are too. I also had the pollo, which was pretty good, the soyrizo, which was solidly good, and the al pastor, which wasn't really up to snuff compared to the rest. I also ate some of the nachos, which were fantastic (I was hungry!). They only take cash but the in-house ATM makes that no problem. Next time I'm here I'm getting the Chicken and Waffles special--I saw it getting walked past me after I'd already placed my order and it's one of the bigger regrets of my life that I didn't get it instead.

The location is a little hard to find and not in center city but the food makes up for it. The tacos were filling, pretty cheap, and had some high quality ingredients. The lamb taco was really unique! The mountain of nachos was hearty and had plenty of meat topping on it. The service was fast and despite a packed house, the waitress assisted in finding an extra chair for our group of 5. Apparently, they have $1 taco nights which means I'll have to return again!

Glad to have another decent bar in my neighborhood. Loco Pez has one of my favorite restaurant features: a great happy hour. $3 drafts, $4 house margaritas, and $4 nachos. It runs M-F 5-7pm. A $3 Dead Reckoning is a great thing. I had dinner here with my friends Lauren and Will, we all really loved the versatility of this spot. Long bar to watch TV? Check. Smallish dining room suitable for conversation? Check. Family Guy pinball to pass the time? Got that too. Overall, the prices are pretty reasonable. Note that the tacos are small, but you can still fill up for around $10. I didn't love all of the tacos that I ordered; the menu seems to have some stars and some duds. Bottom Line: Great neighborhood spot with good service, prices, food, and decent beer. I'll be back.

This place is excellent. It's simple, mom and pop LA street style Mexican food which is how it should be. Philly is awash with the worst Mexican places ever - charging way too much and not delivering the goods. This place will hopefully raise the bar. I lived in LA for 8 years and this place could hold it's own there easy. EXCELLENT margaritas. No cheap bullshit sour mix. Try the "Pez" tacos with quac. Amazing. (fried mahi) My only complaint (not enough to take a star away) would be that their "carne asada" in simply not that. It's shredded beef which is totally different. I do not care what the "technical" definition is - any taco shop in LA offering carne asada is ALWAYS chopped, grilled steak. Shredded beef is often an additional choice but is NEVER referred to as carne asada.

I've been here twice and ordered the Kenzo Nachos. The nachos have cheese, sour cream, guacamole, diced jalapeno peppers, cilantro, roast pork and beef. The first time, I ordered them for myself and realized I made a big mistake. It's a very large dish and I barely made a dent in them so I had to get them to go. I also ordered the steak and al pastor tacos. Though very small, the steak tacos were good, but the al pastor, were bland. I wouldn't recommend the al pastor. The fries and burgers are good, too. I saw other patrons ordering margaritas, which got great views. I see why because they were very good. I would definitely come here again for those Kenzo Nachos and margaritas. The music selection and servers are friendly, too. As a caution, though, it does get crowded and you may have to wait up to 20 minutes or more to be seated.

This place is a vital part of my weekly routine - and it should be part of yours too. I have been to Loco Pez since it has opened and have never once had a bad experience. The staff are amazing, the food is always delivered in a timely fashion and so delicious. I suggest the seitan and spinach tacos with about 3 baskets of their chips and guacamole. If you can't make it for dinner, don't sleep on their brunch! Plain and simple - just go!

This place is fantastic. I go about three times a week with my roommate for tacos and waffle fries. Food is always fresh and comes out fast, no matter how crowded the restaurant is. Bartenders are amazing and super attentive, servers are polite and quick. $1 taco night is an awesome deal. Cash only but there's an ATM in the back. AMAZING jukebox, who ever picked out the record selection did a great job.

I've always been meaning to go here, but was always deterred away since it's cash only (I'm not a fan of this new trend since I hate having cash on me). We decided to give it a try Sunday afternoon. I gotta say I was pretty impressed. My boyfriend had the tostadas trio and I had shrimp tacos and everything was pretty amazing down to the fresh guacamole we got with nachos. I like that there's a take out option as well. Will definitely be back.

I like everything about this place except for their rude bartenders, and this is the reason I've updated my review to four stars from five. Table service is fantastic, food is delicious, margaritas are the best I've had around this area, but the bartenders kind of ruin the whole experience for me. If I do go there again I will definitely sit at a table where I won't have to deal with some smug attitude and eye rolls. The red juice they give you with the tequila is inconsistent, as well.

I'd say Loco is a hidden gem, but it's not so hidden anymore. One of my favorite places in the city. I'm there at least once a week, and if I lived in Fishtown, probably more. The tacos are amazing. Best I've found in the city so far. The ONLY reason it's getting 4 and not 5 stars is because it's cash only.

OVERVIEW: After listening to a story about Tacos on NPR I had a hankering for some, so I looked up "Best Tacos in Philly" on Google and this place was the first to come up. A small divey taco bar in Fishtown, it specializes in Tacos, Nachos, Margaritas, Quesadillas, and Burritos. By no means authentic Mexican (in fact to my knowledge none of the wait staff or customers were even Hispanic) it instead specializes in California-style mini tacos. Homemade and store-bought sauces are also available. MY MEAL: I had a Classic Margarita, Nachos, and 3 Tacos (Chorizo/Potato, The Pez [fried fish], and Marinated Pok Tenderloin). My girlfriend had all 3 of their vegetarian tacos. The tacos, though small, were all delicious and unique and could be pared with 3 delicious homemade sauces. The Margarita was also as good as anyone has a right to expect north of the border. Surprisingly, the real standout was the nachos. Even without meat (you could add it for $3) these were the BEST nachos Ive ever had! A perfect combination of cheese, tomato, onion, jalapeno, and some other powder-like cheese on top, with the salsas they were to DIE for. You know a meal is good when, the whole time you are eating it, you are thinking about coming here again to try more. VALUE: If you want value, come at Happy Hour (5-6:30 weekdays, thats when they open), but get there early, they fill up fast! The Happy Hour deals: $4 Classic Margarita (norm $6), $4 Nachos (norm $8!), $3 Draft Beer (good selection). Burritos/Quesadillas a bit pricey, but a Mini Taco ranges from $1.75-$3, and with nachos 3 will fill you up, you can come in at under $10 a person without drinks, a pretty great deal. VARIETY/OPTIONS: Everything I mentioned is most of what they have really food-wise, though they have about 10 different versions (including 3 veggie) that you can get made into taco, burrito or quesadilla. A specialty place, come here for Cali-style Tex-Mex and drinks. ATMOSPHERE/SERVICE: Loco Pez does a sort of pun with its name (Pez is "fish" in Spanish, so they have a litte aquarium, but also "Pez" dispensers, ha ha my sides). Honestly, atmospher is only downside to this place. You have to like divey bars, not a place for kids. The wait staff were...well, attentive to be sure, drinks filled up real fast and always asked if you wanted more, fast service. They were just a bit...surly? Unenthusiastic? My compliments and inquiries were oftem me with a simple, "OK" or "Awesome" then on to the next guest, but this is a bar so what can you say. A sign above the bar says "Cash Only Bitches! Si Putos, Tengo ATM [Yes Bitches, We Have An ATM]." That should tell you all you need to know about the atmosphere here. VERDICT: Slightly questionable atmosphere/service is entirely made up for by AMAZING food at good prices. Try this place at least once. If this place was in walking distance, I have a feeling Id be here constantly. As is, I will definitely return soon and invite friends for some quality food/drinks. Viva Comidas!

Solid Mexican food! I was impressed by the quality of ingredients. Their carne asada and cochinita pibil (slow cooked pork shoulder!) were standouts for me. Prices are decent and they give you a lot of food. Service was great. Would certainly check it out again

Some of the best service I have ever had, food is really good, who cares of its cash only or small, you go to a place for food and drinks not size and ability to take credit.

I came back here for the first time in a long while and felt the strong urge to update since Wednesday is $1 taco night. Dear Loco Pez -- I officially love you. Your $1 tacos are sublime and your 1/2 price happy hour margaritas are dangerously good. Your bartenders are ridiculous, and I mean that in the best way possible. I just got home from dinner here and I am supremely happy. Thank you Loco Pez and your awesome bartenders for getting me both drunk and full for under $25 on a Wednesday night.

Bring cash! Great taco/burrito combos you can build yourself. Quality ingredients, authentic prices, and happy hour goodness.

no. Just no. This is yet another hipster spot in the city that I have no idea why everyone likes. You don't impress me with your soy chorizo ! You walk into this dark, little bar met with a weird antiseptic and sweat smell - not exactly what I want in my Mexican joint. My dinning mate and my son sat towards the back in the booths. I was unaware, it being the first time I was in there, but not a place for kids. The waitress literally scowled at my son for most the time we were there. He was just sitting there eating a taco quietly and she and the other waitresses, I could tell, were shit talking us. On to the food. We ordered tacos, chips and salsa and guacamole, and a chorizo and spinach burrito. They give you so few chips that we went through the whole thing and didn't even make a dent in our normal sized salsa and quac. The waitress never came around to ask us if we wanted more. I got the chicken, pez, chorizo, and carnitas taco. The size of the tacos is laughable. They are about 2-3 bites each. The pez taco was very good but everything else was nothing to scream about. The salsas were watery and my dinning mate's burrito was a loosely wrapped tube of rice and some fake meat. This would have all been fine but the price was was too high for what you got. I have taken burritos out of the freezer and heated them up with the same results. Also, for a two bite taco, I should not be paying $3. Most a la carte mexi places are the same price, but give you a real sized taco. I guess this place would be cool if you were going to get really drunk and cram a taco or two in your face, but if you really want a Mexican meal, this is not the place to go. This is just a bar with overpriced, average Mexican food and two meatless options.

Nice vibe but nothing great on the menu for vegetarians. The near by No Libs offerings are a much better bet at least for me. Gucamole was the best thing I tried, but again I have had way better near by. Drinks also seemed to be missing something, almost like the margaritas were premade mix with just something added to it (maybe lime juice). Those that eat meat in our group enjoyed the fish tacos the most.

Stopped in here last night for a snack and some drinks and had a really nice time. For a Saturday night, my friend and I got a seat at he bar pretty quickly. The bartender was efficient and pleasant, but not overly friendly, which is fine for a busy bar on a weekend night. I really enjoyed the chips and salsa and the guacamole. It should be mentioned that I can make a meal of chips and salsa and this would have been fine with me. But we also tried several of the tacos; both of the pork, both of the vegetarian meat substitutes and the chicken. They were all very good and combined well with the salsas provided. And quite a bargain! I also had one of the house specialty cocktails - the Coupe De Ville, I think. It was the Blood Orange that compelled me. It was quite tasty and the glass was rimmed with some sweet/salt/spicy thing that made it intriguing. Not a bad deal at $7. But I'm more of a beer guy, so I was a little disappointed with the draft selection. A good variety of bottled beer, but they could benefit from a few more taps. All in all, a good night and a place I'll return to.

Every time I go here I love it. Usually get carne Asada tacos. Just recently tried their quesadilla and it was also very good. Tortilla soup is good just remember to get tortilla on the side so they aren't soggy. Also the margaritas are freshly squeezed.

We came in for dinner and feasted on tacos. The most expensive ones are like $2.50....they're small so for dinner I got to try 4 different kinds. I had carne asada, chochinita pibil (slow cooked pork), pez (fish), and mushroom. They were all fabulous, though the fish was my least favorite because it was heavily fried. Perhaps most importantly you get a bucket (literally) of different salsas to top them with so you can mix and match and bring out different flavors. The cocktails were a major highlight as well. I had a Monte Carlo--chipotle infused tequila with lime, sugar and hibiscus water. It is on my short list of favorite cockatils ever. It starts out tangy and a little sweet, and develops a light smokey flavor with a hint of spice. I usually associate a progression of different flavors with a nice red wine, yet here it is in a cocktail.... I would come back just for that drink. I also had a drink with tequila and grapefruit, which was tart and refreshing and also delicious. Beer prices are reasonable (4-6 for pretty much everything). I don't live in Fishtown, but loco pez is worth the trek!

Such great Mexican. I love their carne Asada. Hillary is the best waitress. I'm from Oklahoma and there are really good Mexican places all over down there. I had been living in Philly for almost a year when I finally found Loco Pez. This place is legit. Better than back home. Great salsa's, great burrito's, great nachos. It's all good. I can't wait until they expand because if you don't get there at the right time, the wait can be too long. All of the wait staff and bartenders are really nice, just treat them like family and they do the same.

Got here on a Friday night around 7:30pm and boy was this place packed. We were somewhat greeted with friendly stares from everyone in the place lol I guess we looked out of place? Needless to say we eventually ordered a few drinks while we waited for our table to become available (roughly 15 min). Very good signature drinks (somewhat light handed on the alcohol) interior is nice, kinda reminds you of El Rey, very relaxed vibe *tacos were either hit or miss....steer your ordering towards the beef rather than fish *awesome guacamole We had a really awkward situation where someone walked in and wanted us to hold his wallet filled with hundreds while he yelled at us to let him use our cell phone. He looked plastered off some sort of illegal drug and needless to say everyone just stared at us while we were getting harrassed by this character. Our waiter came by during the middle of this and said nothing to this person. Really uncomfortable and kinda scary. As he left screaming "yuppies", we all sat in amazement wondering if we were being pranked. The area is kinda seedy Nice spot for cheap eats and drinks.

I've been sort of disappointed lately. they won't let you mix and match burrito ingredients and their only veggie burrito is mushroom, so it's getting old. Also, the burritos (they're all I ever get) are always borderline cold and the cheese is often only 1/2 melted. Don't get me wrong, I still love the flavor and sauces and service has always been fine, but there seems to be some half assing in the burrito dept., and at $9 per, you should get a better quality product.

Love this place. First off it has a cool laid back environment, much like you would expect from a Fishtown restaurant. The variety of meats for the tacos is great. I recommend the shrimp tacos and the pork taco- also can't go wrong with the Kenzo Nachos. It's a fun spot with good food and drink. You definitely won't want to go to Taco Bell after eating here.

shhhh! my favorite taco place in Philly and its already crowded. I tell you what, go else where and leave the tacos for me. But seriously, the food is awesome, the drinks kick ass, and the bartenders give great service. What more could you ask for? Keep in mind - parking can be a little tough but if you drive around for a bit you'll find something and its cash only.

Oh man, I find myself hear about once a week. I seriously find myself craving their tacos and margaritas. Their classic margarita is probably the least good one but the blood orange and grapefruits ones are AWESOME. the food is good, the guac is good, their happy hour specials are good, and the bar and wait staff are pretty cool people too. Oh yeah, how can you beat surprise $1 taco days???? You can't.

I love it here. Awesome burritos, and amazing tacos. EXTREMELY tasty, authentic Meixcan food. The service is great, I've never had a problem with long waits, or grumpy servers! I will be frequenting this place whenever I can!

I'v been hearing all the buzz and finally got out to Loco Pez for some cervezas and tacos! It was $1 taco night so we tried about 3/4 of what was on the menu in addition to some margaritas and canned beer. Oh, and the nachos! Yes, you want to go just for the nachos. They're so full of yum. Go right ahead and stock 'em up with meaty goodness for a few extra bucks but we veered sans-meat and still thoroughly enjoyed them. The sauces were stellar. I commented that they were an excellent compliment to the corn tortilla concoction of your choice while not overpowering it at all. The tacos themselves were (during this $1 each special) outstanding. I think most were under $3 regularly so I can't complain. These are smaller 4 inch tacos so order a bunch - live a little dood! This was my first time here. I found it interesting that although Loco Pez isn't exactly in the thick of Northern Liberties and Fishtown hot spots, by 6:30 there was a 2 deep stack at the bar and people waiting for tables. The Happy Hour crowd was pretty mixed. A few seniors, a couple kids, moms, dads, hipsters, nerds, etc. I like it like that.

This jawn is tight. Literally, and figuratively. Loco Pez is a welcome addition to a line-up of solid bars in Fishtown. Living less than a block away, I find that I can more often than not find myself here unintentionally. There's so much drawing me in: $3 drafts during happy hour (5-7 daily). $1 taco days (follow them on FB). 3-dimensional Jesus photos. Vegan or not, make sure you try the Mushroom, Seitan & Spinich, and Soy Chorizo tacos. They are all equally amazing. Well, the soy chorizo might take the cake; that spice is epic. And their guacamole is pretty damn good too. As for drinks, you can't go wrong. They've always got a nice selection of local beers (PBC!) and their magaritas are all legit. I'd recommend the Monte Carlo -- it's got chipotle-infused taquila. Yea. Make sure to get there early, this place can get packed! And don't forget, it's "cash only, bitches."

This place rules! Add them on Facebook so you can see the dollar taco nights. I live here and go all the time. It kind of reminds me of a 1970's grandmother's trailer park home, somewhere in socal or something. I brought a friend there and he remarked similarly. Not a big fan of the cash only thing, especially because it's a pretty well to do place it seems, they have a ton of customers in there every time I'm there, get with the times! I love their drinks, and the bartenders that make them. They have a few burly guys that work there who have a really funny sense of humor. At about 10 minutes before closing a guy walked in one night wearing sunglasses and looked really sketchy. The bartender pointed at him, told him to get the f*$k out of the bar, and asked him who wears sunglasses to a bar at 2AM. My friend then ordered a tequila sunrise, which prompted a "Really?", when my friend confirmed, he laughed, shook his head and made a very strong drink, then made some small talk with us. A few minutes later he poured us a few free shots of whiskey, that was nice. Tacos and nachos are salad, really want to try their other items. Really great type of place for Fishtown to have right now.

I love the food, love the atmosphere, but dislike the service! They have fantastic chicken, fish and vegetarian tacos! I also love their chips and guac as well as their cocktails. I have NEVER once had good service there...mediocre at best. The place is always crowded with the hipster types, which is fine-live and let live, say I. Anyway, I'm sort of your average citizen (occasionally I get take out in workout clothes because I teach Pilates.) I feel that I am often ignored or not given the time of day until much later than I should be considering it's the service industry (which I have worked in.) Earlier this week, I went in to get some takeout. Both bartenders ignored me for about 5 minutes even though the bar was half empty and restaurant only medium busy (not full, no waiting list). I know they had their bar duties to perform, etc. but as a service professional they could acknowledge my presence and tell me they will be with me in a moment. But they did neither until I had been waiting for about 5 minutes. So frustrating-they also avoided eye contact, which is weird as I didn't assume my monster shape for the night. Anyway-you get the picture. That was only 1 incident of which there are many. Of course I will keep going back because they have the only Mexican food that's decent and close, but I felt the need to vent a bit!!!

My friend took me here for the first time on my birthday. We were disappointed because the restaurant had mistakenly tweeted that it was dollar tacos day, and we hadn't seen the correction posted later. Personally, I think the restaurant should have assumed responsibility for their own mistake and given us the discount, or at least apologized in some way, but the waitress was pretty unapologetic. Oh well. Luckily, the nachos we ordered instead made up for it--loaded with pork, cheese, guacamole, jalapeno peppers, sour cream, these nachos were truly unforgettable. HUGE serving size and bursting with flavor, and could probably be enough for an entree for two people to split. I also ordered the shrimp taco and the al pastor taco. These were delicious but very small and expensive--definitely would be worth it given the dollar taco deal that happens once a week (as notified on Twitter and Facebook). I also got the Fairlane, which was pretty good but a little strong for my taste (read: it didn't taste like Ocean Spray). Fun environment, solid Mexican food, will definitely be back.

If I had only lied close, I would go here for happy hour every week. So cheep and very good for its price! My friend and I each got 3 margarittas, 2 tacos, and nachos, and this whole came out to about $25. The drinks we got were strong and good! I loved it! I definitely wanna go back for the nachos too. I was so full but couldn't stop cleaning the plate :)

Oh, I'm going to really, really like living within 10 minutes of this place. We came on Friday night of Easter weekend, but on the way, received a warning text. "It's PACKED. What should we do?" We instructed our man on the ground, put in our name, ask how long, and if it's more than an hour, we move to Plan B. Luckily, the responding text was optimistic. "Only 30 minutes!" Less than 30 minutes later, we were seated at a great table in the middle of the action. I really like the vibe of this place. It still has strong echoes of the dive bar it used to be - leather bar chairs, old plastic signs with spanglish writing, red plastic cups like you'd get at Pizza Hut... but they have definitely kicked it up a notch. Service was on point, happy hour deals were awesome (half price nachos? you don't need to tell me twice), music was fantastic. I love the option to mix and match the little tacos, and everything my friends had (soy chorizo burrito, "tiny meats" enchiladas) got stellar reviews. Within no time we were staring at a mess of cleaned plates and empty, salt-speckled margarita glasses. The sign of a good meal if I've ever seen one. Can't wait to go back and get a little taco blotto!

The margaritas are so good, I've stopped in just for drinks. The tacos are good, but order several because they are small. I like the atmosphere and have no problems with the service, but I got so sick after eating here! I've talked to several other people who've had the same experience after visiting Loco Pez. My husband swears this isn't always the case, but I haven't been brave enough to eat here again.

Love this place! Great food, great specials! Dollar taco night makes my day when I catch it. Especially when on my birthday they ran $1 tacos. I made sure not to miss it; happy bday to me! Try the seitan and spinach tacos. The shrimp tacos and fish tacos are awesome as well. They are so full of shrimp/fish that I usually wind up using a fork because they get sloppy to hold. Delicious!!!

Rolled in on a Tuesday afternoon for one of their $1 taco nights (check their Twitter feed for when they're running the $1 promos; it's not always a weekly thing and they switch up the days of the week) shortly after their 5 PM opening and the place was already starting to fill up. Tacos are normally pretty decently priced (between $1.75-$2.50) so still not too bad without the special. They also do Happy Hour M-Fri from 5-7 (and Sat/Sun 1-3 PM) so double bonus: 1/2 off nachos, $4 house margaritas, $2 drafts, etc. The nachos were off the chain. We got them without meat but if that's your thing, then by all means, load em on up! They had several sauces that you could try which were an excellent compliment to both the nachos (which we had a stare down over the last nacho & eventually decided to call a truce and let it keep it's deliciously crunchy, cheese covered life) and the tacos that arrived swiftly after we'd finished our appetizer. I ordered a carnitas, a fish taco, chicken & a chorizo. The carnitas might have been the best one. Green sauce was killer with the chorizo. The smokier sauce was a perfect compliment to the carnitas. FYI - They're small, 4 inch tacos, not the usual 6 inch - so just knock yourself out and ordered one of everything if you're feeling "loco!"

Fresh ingredients, corn tortillas, excellent drinks and fantastic service. Why only four stars? They don't serve 'agua de tamarindo', also, the tacos are tasty, but not served the authentic way, with TWO tortillas per taco. Please, Loco Pez, can you add the missing tortilla? I used to live in souther California and made VERY frequent trips to Mexico, plus, I lived in Mexican hoods in L.A., so I am spoiled on authentic tacos.

I love this place- the quirky decor is great. The first thing I noticed was the prices, you know you aren't in center city anymore! Tacos are all around $2, and during HH a gigantic plate of nachos are only $4. I would skip the margaritas, I wish they used better ingridients in their standard marg (hello grand marnier!) I would get a dos equis with lime instead. My favorite tacos are the al pastor, carne asada, and shrimp. Brunch here was excellent as well, although the prices are a little more inflated ($5 OJ?!?) I got the fried eggs with tortilla chips baked with salsa verde, it was delicious, but 2 eggs + chips + salsa should not = $11. Everyone else had the huevos rancheros and seemed pleased with their heaping plates of comida. Luckily I work nearby, so I can easily get here often, but I highly recommend leaving your center city bubble and making the trek to Kensington!

Went to this place for the first time last night. It was worth the trek out to Fishtown (from graduate hospital) which I am normally not too keen on especially when I know I'll be drinking heavily/taking a cab. We waited a short time, in the not too crowded bar area and consumed some drinks. Their margaritas and special margaritas were very good and heavy handed on the tequila. Beer selection was also quite plentiful. The service was excellent and very fast and attentive. Our waitress was very enthusiastic about telling us everything about the menu. I agree with some other reviews that the menu should probably include descriptions of some of the items on the menu. The tacos, while small, were VERY good and at a good price. We actually saw the guy in the kitchen cutting smaller tortillas out from a larger premade tortilla. Not sure why they would do this, but my stomach was happy so I obliged. I thought it was cool that you could order by the taco and therefore get all different kinds of meat. I never liked when other places don't let you substitute meats. Also a few points off for the fact that they don't make their own chips/tortillas, but whatever they are using works. The Nachos de kenzo were hands down the best nachos I've eaten in life. I kid you not. These are a requirement if you go here. There was so much deliciousness piled on top of these chips that I was content to eat just them (which I didn't). Overall, come to this place!

  • S.Frances B.

Amazing quality food and drinks (nice tequila selection). Also not expensive! The staff is super friendly. It's quite the trendy place at the moment so the only downfall is the crowds. Expect to wait a while for a table, or even a seat at the bar. Most people aren't aware but they do offer take out. We live close by so it's quite convenient to pick up some of the great food and just have it at home. Ordering for take out never took more that 10 minutes so if you're craving good Mexican fast this is the way to go.

For Philadelphia this place is a decent Mexican bar restaurant. Their nachos can compete with Philly's best: comes with a large plate of chips smothered with cotija and chedder cheeses, frijoles, jalapenos, salsa fresca, and supposedly guacamole (but, I didn't see any on our plate). They also have the Nachos de Kenzo which is double the size of the regular nachos and includes chirizo, shredded chicken, and carne asada. They have an accommodating salsa selection in a basket for you including three house salsas (salsa verde, salsa chipotle, and salsa regular) and Tapitio and Chalula. If you want to start chips and salsa they charge you $3. The tacos are reasonably priced (ranging from $1.50-$2.50), flavorful (can't go wrong with the fish or shrimp tacos!), but who in their right Mexican mind eats a single tortilla wrapped taco? Just saying; if they double wrapped them bad boys it wouldn't get soggy and fall apart in your hands. If this is a conscious decision then they are TRULY holding back the full taco experience from their audience, a predominately non-diverse hipster crowd. The vibe is mellow nothing-too-fancy which gives it a local feel. They tune into Flyers games and play cool grooves like Ratatat in the background. The wait service can lag at times when they get busy, but they are generally nice. Some of them do actually habla Espanol and not just "habla Mexican." I had one bad experience, but only because I had a bill that was $13.64 and when I received change back from a $20 I received back a $5 bill, a $1 bill, and no change. I wound up changing the $5 for ones with the bartender, but that was deserving of a $1 tip. They have a brand new Family Guy themed pinball machine in the back by the bathrooms. That's boss. I highly recommend putting in your quarters before you leave. They also have an ATM in the back because they are CASH ONLY. All in all, as a native Californian who grew up eating Mexican food her whole life, although this is no Mexican I know, I'm still glad Loco Pez is in my neighborhood!

Decent beer selection and prices, and pretty good food. Charging folks for chips and salsa is kinda lame, but I guess I can let it slide once in a while. We were surprised to find a table for six on a Friday night at 8pm without any kind of wait. I was told we were lucky. The place is not big. And it fills with hipsters quickly, though it wasn't exclusively hipster. They won't kick you out if you wear North Face. Portions could be bigger. Nachos were pretty good and they were kinda like a sampler for the tacos -- so it worked out well as a preview of what was to come. Basically this is like "Cantina North" but without the outdoor "terrace". Good addition to any Philly neighborhood and I hope it continues to attract patrons.

I discovered this place from a friend and I'm really glad that I did. As a vegetarian it's hard to find mexican food that you can eat. I have been to a bunch of places around the city, but this is the BEST for soy beef. They also have great drinks. Every time I'm there is packed, and still the service is on point. This place is good and authentic with a great price tag. Bring cash, no charge.

I absolutely love Mexican food and Loco Pez is way better than any other similar joint in the area. They have a happy hour with $4 nachos, $4 margaritas and $3 drafts. You have to get there right when they open at 5pm or you will have to wait, awkwardly around the bar, yes this place is very small. If you can come during the random $1 TACO NIGHTS during HAPPY HOUR you can fill up on food and drinks for two around $25. The food is reasonably priced and prepared with quality ingredients. The service has always been great with attentive friendly staff and fast food turnout. The one thing that I was not impressed by was the burrito it just seemed to be missing something but there are plenty of other delicious options. People need to stop complaining that the tacos are too small, they are $1.75 for christ sake. If you can't afford that then maybe you shouldn't be going out to eat.

I actually read about this place in a local newspaper and came for the happy hour. We ordered one of each taco and tried all the sauces but nothing was good. The chicken one was okay and the shots were steady but definitely not a place you should go out of your way to try when visiting Philadelphia.

Very good gringo hipster mexican spot. It's tucked away in fishtown but definitely worth checking out. I really dig the ambience here. Wide variety of drinks and tequila (I recommend the bloody maria with chipotle tequila for brunch). Breakfast burrito was great. Tacos are the bomb. Awesome that they have an assortment of hot sauces for your enjoyment. Food is as good as most places in Cali or Texas. Prices are reasonable too.

I love this place! Great happy hour where you can their nachos for half off, and they are to die for! Regular margaritas are on special too, but they are inconsistent depending on bartender. I love the seitan spinach tacos, chorizo and potato tacos, pez(fish) tacos, and cochinita pibil tacos. My sister went and said the pork tacos are dry and I've heard the chicken ones are nothing special.

YUM! What was that? That smell? Delicious! Is that? No, it can not be, my favorite! Tacos! Watch how it oozes flavor! Dallops of sour cream! Carne Asada, the steak! Is Carne Asada another name for heaven? Lettuce! Fresh from Earth! The shell! Made from Maize by hand, is perfection! Ground chiles mixed with spices, for divine flavor. Are these pieces of heaven not the second coming a certain savior? No human concoction surpasses For the inventors are not from this dimension! Were tacos the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden? For Adam and Eve it was the ultimate guilty pleasure. So next time you are feeling down and depressed try a taco from Loco Pez.

The food is decent however the menu is quite limited. The service here is HORRENDOUS!! All the servers walk around with a stick up their booty. A group of 5 girls went after work, we were all laughing the whole time and the waitress didn't crack a smile the whole time. She was also very short with us and unfriendly. Then when the check came she added 20% gratuity. WTF, I could see if we were a large group, but seriously a party of 5 at a dive bar?? The waitress then stated that it was up to the waitresses digression on how much gratuity to add. So apparently this rude waitress thought she was worth 20% added gratuity. Needless to say all the people we work with have decided we will never go back there.

To be sure, I've only had some of the tacos from here, so this is just the food. That said, they were phenomenal. Lots of interesting flavors. I need to visit formally sometime, but I'm pretty sure I won't be disappointed.

Loco Pez, I'm demoting you 2 stars. Sorry, old friend. Your food is still tasty, but it's your atmosphere that I cannot stand. You are far too crowded, and I'm not just saying that. Really, I can't move or stand comfortably within your walls. I wait for at least 30 to 40 minutes for one of your tables. I wanted to keep visiting you Loco Pez, but when there are other tasty Mexican options nearby where I can always get a table, you just aren't worth it anymore.

We ate here tonight for the first time. it was excellent. We sat at the bar, but they did have booths and tables. We got there during happy hour (5p-7p). $3 drafts and $4 house nachos. We ordered the nachos and they were HUGE and delicious!!! I got a "coupe de veille" margarita, made with blood orange puree. yummy!!! Then I switched to draft beer. My husband and I each ordered 3 tacos. They were the perfect size. Our favortie was the Al Pastor. We will definitely go back to Loco Pez. If you go, remember, they only take cash, bitches! They do have an ATM :-)

I dunno, maybe I'll have to give it another try but I wasn't thrilled. Had some mediocre tacos and ok service. Place was packed full of the kind of people who look you up and down when you walk in the door. Hate making those entrances. Was a bit disappointed because so many people I know like it, but I think its just hype.

I fucking love this place. Pros: margaritas that put you on your ass, fresh and flavorful food, attractive staff, incredible happy hour. Plus I can see this place from my front step. Cons: pretty small so expect to wait, especially if you're going on $1 taco night, they won't deliver margaritas to my house- rude.

Cantina, you're going to suffer from the opening of Loco Pez. The taco fillings are so tasty I didn't even need to use a drop of hot sauce, although there were several bottles of what looked like homemade sauces of different kinds. I always find myself dumping all the different hot sauces I can find on the Cantina $1 tacos to get some flavor. The tacos at Loco Pez may be small in diameter, but damn do they stuff them! You're going to end up with a whole taco of filling in the basket when you finish one. They could really make 2 tacos out of each. Today I tried camarones - surprisingly breaded and fried, but to absolute perfection! Those are some high quality shrimp! I also had seitan with spinach - holy crap, they actually know how to prepare seitan. It actually had taste and texture! My last was al pastor, no less delicious or overstuffed than the other two. I can't believe how cheap these are! We shared a plate of nachos, which were just OK. Not a whole lot of cheese on them. I probably won't get them again, if only to be able to eat more TACOS! I also had the margarita with chipotle, I forget what they called it though, maybe Monte Carlo? It was definitely a spicy, unique drink. Spicy beverage + spicy dishes are not enough contrast, so next time I'll stick with a sweet one. The layout of the place is a little awkward, but if you want to eat and it's crowded at the entrance by people waiting for a drink at the bar, make sure you just get through the bar crowd to the hostess at the back. It's a good thing they don't take cards, just cash, or I would have spent a LOT more money on trying all the different margaritas.

The tacos are really good but small, the beer menu is extensive but expensive, and the seating stinks. It's a good little neighborhood spot and I've been there many times. Nothing to complain about, nothing special either.

I came here last night, I have to admit, I had no idea what was going on w/ the old Crazy Fish. I really think that this joint may be my new neighborhood "go to spot". It's kind of dark inside (not a bad thing), they had sports on TV, decent music playing and the place had an old school feel to it. The bar is long and had plenty of seats, there were about 5 tables on the side and 3-4 booths in the rear. They had a great beer selection, I prefer Tecates....but at $4 a pop, I think is kind of expensive. The margaritas were really good too, @ 6$ was reasonable. The bartender was completely attentive, explained the menu and had beers lined up before we were finished our current ones, there is nothing more I can ask for than that! We sampled about 4-5 tacos, all authentic, fresh and flavorful and had the volcano burrito (veggie) All food is accompanied by 3 sauces in range from mild (verde) to a pretty hot pepper sauce. I can not wait to go back to this place w/ some friends, I hope they incorporate some specials and have a happy hour. Sorry Dos Segundos, but I don't need to travel to you anymore, I can stumble home from this place!

Loco Pez is seriously so much better than anything I could've imagined would take over the Crazy Fish Saloon spot. Only a few block away from my house, it's AMAZING to have a Mexi spot so close. I am a tequila fan, and it's hard for me to say no to a Margarita just a short walk away - especially when they're pretty strong, not too sweet, and only $4 during Happy Hour. Actually this reminds me, I'd like to take this time to give their Aussie bartender Bob a shout-out. He is awesome, but potentially dangerous (don't worry I mean for your alcohol tolerance, not your wallet!) The last time I went there for a serious happy hour I ended up blacking out a few hours later and not too much poorer, although to be fair my bad judgement in deciding to have a "quick" follow-up drink at the Nut Hut was partially to blame. In short, Loco Pez is the perfect addition to Fishtown. Yummy food at totally decent prices, great drinks, cute vibe. It can get really crowded, but the lack of annoyingly loud blaring music (I'm looking at you Kraftwork) means you can still do as much chatting as you want no matter how many people are surrounding you, drooling over your $4 massive plate of Happy Hour nachos!

Had diner twice, first about a month ago, then again last Monday. Food, service, and ambiance are all top notch. First time had fish, carne asada, shrimp, carnitas and al pastor tacos, all exceptional as was the huitlacoche quesadilla. Fun, lively and knowledgeable server. Next time had the Kenzo nachos, and shrimp & carnitas tacos, as good as first time, service and food. Have not drank here yet but the margaritas look authentic and yummy. Next time.

We love Loco Pez! The food is delicious, and the atmosphere friendly and inviting. Prices are relatively low, and if you "like" them on Facebook, you will be notified of $1 taco nights - an awesome money saver!!! I highly recommend the nachos de Kenzo. The wait staff are friendly, and truly appreciate the customers. They are a cash only establishment, so be prepared (or take advantage of the ATM on site).

Loco Pez has good food. It's difficult to enjoy because there tends to be a 1 hour wait for a table and the bar is packed. Not easy to find a seat anywhere or even standing room.

Loco Pez... Not a favorite. I am a big fan of Mexican food and this hipstamatic place was a thumbs down. The food was OK, not amazing. The bar leads in to this dingy dining room with awful throwback artwork with 1970 garage sale written all over it. The place was dimly lit and appeared not clean. The food we ordered was just OK. The tacos blah. I had high expectations based on the reviews. I will be going to Taco Riendo more authentic and cleaner.

I had a chicken taco, which while very tiny was really flavorful! I also had a shrimp burrito, which was very tasty, and quite filling. I really loved the decor and vibe of the place. It smelled a bit because of the renovation, but not too bad. Really nice wait staff. I am glad to have this place in my neighborhood!

This place is simply great. First, I just want to say two words: mushroom. burrito. This place is cash only, so hit the ATM before arriving. Their cocktails are pretty delicious and are about $7-8 and food is reasonable. The service is pretty fast and attentive (with the exception of one time out of the 4 times I've been there) and the bartender always has a smile on his face. The tacos can be bought individually, but they're pretty small. They're the only thing on the menu that I don't think are worth their price. Did I mention that mushroom burrito? IT IS SO GOOD.

One dollar taco nights!!! Ok so unfortunately that's not every night, but as Nana says-"absence makes the heart grow fonder." The food here is good, its stumbling distance to my apartment and they have negra modelo on tap- bam! Instant favorite. Now those of you who aren't me/don't live in my apartment probably want more info. "Is it authentic?" I hear the corny white people ask. I'm not sure what the hell that means. "But I'm from California! That means I'm basically Mexican." News flash- Mexican food from California isn't authentic, if by authentic you mean traditional. If you mean "made by Mexicans we pay $6 an hour under the table" then Cal-Mex is authentic. But really traditional, like Abuela-grinding-corn-in-the-kitchen-authentic is a hard thing to find in the U.S. and increasingly hard to find in Mexico. Pretty much all of the border states in Mexico have become "americanized" in terms of the use of things like cheese, sour cream and pre-packaged commercially-manufactured ingredients. It's cheaper, easier, faster and more deliciously fattening than the "traditional" food starving subsidence farmers lived on 200 years ago. SOOOOO bottom line- stop being worried about authenticity and just focus on what your taste buds say. This place has excellent tacos, a relaxed dive bar feel and good beer on tap. If you're still concerned that it isn't Mexican enough for you, get drunk on tequila, dress up like a charro and keep yelling "Tierra y Libertad!" whenever the waiter asks you a question.

Are the tacos better at Los Taquitos de Puebla? Yes, of course. There was nary a Mexican in site at this hipster bar. But the margaritas were honest (no neon-green mixer) and fairly priced and the food fresh - and unlike the "food only" spots in South Philly, this is a place where the lighting won't make you have second thoughts about your date's looks. Beware though, the tacos might look cheap but they're tiny - by the time you go through 3 or 4 of them and a couple drinks, you'll be dropping the same cash as anywhere else. Authentic? No. Fun? Yes.

I went opening night. I may have found my 2011-12 blizzard headquarters. Beers: good selection of drafts and bottles. Tequila: extensive list but didn't try any. Food: absolutely delicious, bite size soft tacos ( had one carnitas and one pollo). Staff: cool, knowledgeable and helpful. Crowd: neighborhood mix, which is crucial - not too many hipsters, towns, yuppies but just the right proportions of all. Decor: like the typical Fishtown dirty old man bar, including drop ceiling, minus the smoke. Long bar w bar tables and a few dining tables in back plus a Family Guy pinball machine. It's cash only for now but they helpfully have an ATM in the bar. Best part is that it's 2 blocks from my home.

What can I say this place is perfect. Tacky decor, delicious food, cheap drinks. I love it here so much. Definitely a bit of a hipster hang out, but the good kind, that feels friendly and welcoming. The Nachos De Kenzo can feed me for a week, they're crazy huge and delicious.

  • Thad S.

This place is great. The drinks are delicious, the tequila flows like water, and the tacos are bite sized and priced as such. Happy hour nachos, you will not find a better version in the entire city. The waitstaff isn't too hard on the eyes either.

Loco Pez, you are so good. So good. I am sitting at work right now, at 10:20 AM, fantasizing about their guacamole that I ate last night. It was seriously one of the best I have ever had, I might have to go back tonight. Also, ordering by the taco is the best idea ever. I tried the Camerones, Al Pastor, Pez, & Carne Asada. When they first came out, I was bummed because they seemed small but they are not small at all. So much meat/shrimp, whatever filling, and just a little taco, which is so much better than the reverse. They were so tasty that trying to think of my favorite one right now is proving impossible (and making me really hungry). They didn't need any of their salsas, but I tried a little bit of each just to sample and they were all excellent. I know I pull the "my boyfriend is Mexican" card on all of my Mexican restaurant reviews, but it matters, because my nightly meals usually involve mole or salsa verde, so I am becoming an expert on Mexican food, even for a guera. My boyfriend was not with me last night, but I came home and blabbered about it so much that he now really wants to go there. It was super busy when we got there (during happy hour) so we waited a little bit for a table, but they were all really really nice about it, so I didn't even care. Quick note: Both my friend and I tried to Google map their location and they came back with directions to Dos Segundos. Pretty tricky Dos Segundos.

Went for the first time Saturday night with a friend after hearing numerous people rave about it. I wasn't disappointed. We sat at the bar since there wasn't any tables open and started off with some drinks. I got the diablo margarita which had habenero pepper in it...I'm not too into spicy things and obviously it was SUPER spicy but the bartender recommended it and he was cute coupled with an Australian accent (if I'm remembering correctly) so obviously I would've drank 5 if he recommended I do so. I haven't had Mexican food in forever and this totally hit the spot. I got enchiladas for the first time and they were WONDERFUL. It was definitely some of the most authentic Mexican food I've had. Also the service was very prompt. The only thing I didn't like was it was a bit cramped. I mean we literally arrived at the perfect time because we actually got a seat...shortly after we arrived people started piling in. It's a really small establishment and it's obviously not just a bar where people would be fine standing around and drinking...it was evident most people were there for the food as much as drinks, so it's kind of like you're eating on top of each other and there's people standing throughout the place waiting to grab a seat. It being such a popular place and becoming seemingly more popular they might want to think of expanding a bit but maybe that's part of their charm. Also I did feel it was a little pricey...I think the food I got was definitely worth it but the drinks were small and expensive and I don't quite get why. Overall I thought it was pretty good and I'll definitely stop in next time I'm in the neighborhood!

I've only been here during lunch hours but I can safely say that this is my favorite lunch spot in Fishtown. Food is consistently good and the service is great. Make sure to order the tacos and bring cash since they don't take plastic.

Fun vibe, yummy and cheap eats. Bar service is quick and friendly, table service sometimes misses the mark if the dining room is crowded. Still a little musty or fume-y smelling from the renovation. Overall, a cool place to have on the block.

I've only ever been here for dollar taco night, but I've been to a ton! You never know when dollar taco night is going to be, so you have to follow them on fb or twitter. However, it goes on all night until they close at 2am. Great for a late night snack! Tacos are fresh and tasty. Service is always friendly and quick. The place is very small, but I've never felt crowded when sitting at a table. A big downside is that they are cash only. Be prepared for this before you come! Carrying the cash is definitely worth it!! Street parking can be tough, but the restaurant is accessible via the el train.

Loco Pez is quite the Fishtown gem. The first time I found myself there, I was a little caught off guard and did not know what to expect; it was busy, it was loud, and I really wasn't sure where I was. At the time, I found it mediocre and wasn't impressed, but I thought that might also be a reflection to my mood and decided I'd like to give it a second chance another time. Last week, I gave it that chance, and let me say that I am glad that I did. I posted up at the end of the bar and ordered a few tacos: cochinita, al pastor, and mahi. All were great, especially the mahi and cochinita. However, just by chance, I overheard the cook telling the bartender about this mahi mahi sandwich that he concocted a few nights before. I was intrigued and so I asked if I could have one (it couldn't hurt to ask, right?). The cook obliged, and several minutes later I was staring the beast in the face. It was honestly perfect, so much so that I felt compelled to start a Yelp account just to say this. Grilled mahi mahi on a bun, topped with escabeche (pickled jalapeños), and slathered in a habanero and bleu cheese sauce that sent my tongue into an inferno. Plain and simple: this needs to be on the menu, because I cannot go on living life without the opportunity to have this again. EDIT: Whoa! So I went back and this sandwich is now on the menu (albeit "secret" menu)! Ask for the "El Jimmy!"

"Too Kool For Skool". Been here 3 times now, with the same woman tending bar. She has no business being in food service, maybe debt collections or DMV. Accidentally went during their buck a taco "night" (were there for h.h. at 5:15 pm..), was packed with hipsters that scrounged change from under the couch. Put name in for table, we had a round of mgritas, and waited 20 min. Asked when we might get a table, and were told "when someone gets up to leave". O.K. smart ass. Couldn't get to door fast enough. BTW, the two times were were able to actual sit down and eat, the food and drinks were actually quite good, but ruined by the needlessly arrogant attitude of the staff. We went to Interstate Draft House. Great service, great beer, and great owner who gives a f*uck.

Tried the carnitas burrito, carne asada burrito, waffle fries and chips and salsa. The burritos were superb. The meat on both was perfectly seasoned and tender. The waffle fries were a little too overdone for my taste and the chips and salsa tasted very fresh with a bit of a kick. I can definitely see myself visiting this place often. I am not a fan of the 70's, but the decor here is very kitschy and well done. I actually enjoyed looking at the walls with the funky wallpaper. The music was really good, too. If you get easily bored, they have a pinball machine I. The back to keep you busy.

i don't normally write a review after being somewhere once. only if it's notably bad or notably good, or there's something i HAVE to tell you about. this is an example of the last situation. they have a great little menu of fun cocktails, all named after cars. i got the Monte Carlo, which is what would happen if a Cosmopolitan and a Bloody Mary made sweet, sweet love and had a baby full of alcohol. seriously, who puts chipotle in a fruity drink and not only does it work, it's amazing?!? Loco Pez, that's who. the decor is straight up Williamsburg kitsch, the clientele on break from an American Apparel catalogue shoot. it's Fishtown, y'all. it's located at that weird five point intersection that always makes me confused. i was highly amused by the prominent sign on the front door admonishing patrons to not park at a certain street corner as it would prevent the 25 bus from making the turn (i know this, having been on said 25 bus when it got stuck at said intersection). oh, yes, the food. i had the Nachos de Kenzo, which, given its name, was not surprisingly piled high with three kinds of meat. also, it was HUGE. enough for two entrees. and yes, delicious, with the perfect combination of textures (this is a huge thing for me and nachos), the pulled pork and ground meat, melted but not overwhelming cheese, mound of guac and perfectly crispy chips. so yes, save a Monte Carlo for me at the bar. i only live a ten minute walk away. Fishtown FTW. ps. bonus points for the weird dude with a Turkey Hill Lemonade who wandered about, sat down at the booth next to us, watched the Phillies game and waved off the wait staff every time they attempted to give him water or, you know, get him to actually order some food. pps. negative points for being cash only. no one's perfect.

This place was really good but the service was mixed. We showed up with a party of nine and the host was very accommodating. In spite of it being super busy we were seated quickly, squeezed into their biggest booth. The food came out quick and was great. I had the pollo burrito and my wife had the soy chorizo. The draft beer selection was small but good and they had a bigger bootle/can list. My only problem with the place was our waitress. She was not very attentive. The host/waiter who seated us was great but she was not. Maybe next time we will get a better waiter/waitress. We will definitely be going back.

Went here for the first time on a Tuesday evening after I heard it opened the week before...PACKED!! Great sign and now I know why - Happy Hour 5-7PM!! Margarita Please! The tacos are mini ~3" in size...hence the cheap price so order a few different ones to try. I tried the Al Pastor and Pez tacos. MMMmmm, must try more Al Pastor!! After Happy hour ended, I switched to the Negro Modelo and ordered the Nachos de Kenzo. Wow! The best Nachos...better than Dos Sequendos in my opinion! 3-different meats on top with all fresh ingredients stacked high and every chip had some deliciousness on top! I took half home as I was stuffed. The menu is simple. The Tequilas and Cervezas are plentiful. The margarita I had was delicious...just could have used less ice as it was gone in a few swallows. The service is friendly and you may recognize some faces from Xochitl and Swift Half. I recommend this place, but please don't park in front of my house!! I like my neighborhood and the ability to find parking! :)

Very nice set up. Booths in back, tables in front. Efficient servers, good bartenders...GREAT MARGARITAS. I really hate to say anymore, because this place is around the corner from my house, and I don't want anyone to know how great it is. I was hoping to keep it a secret, but as you can see by everyone's review, they hit it out of the park with this one.

Just had brunch for their inaugural brunch. BRUNCH! AT LOCO PEZ! It's like a fiesta of dreams coming true. I had the Eggs Benedict (I always have to try it if it's offered), and was blown away. This place is FN AWESOME! My partner and I decided to give this place a try after deciding against chinese and pizza. Its literally a 3 minute walk from our house so we decided to go for it and boy am i glad we did! We both started out with two shots of tequila (we asked the waitress for her suggestion and she didn't suggest the most expensive one like they do in most restaurants which surprised us both) We downed the shots which they gave us with some yummy red chaser(had no clue what it was but it went well w the shot) ordered a couple more drinks and burritos. My chicken, spinach, mushroom burrito was to die for and my gf finished her chicken burrito so fast I didn't even see her eating lol Overall this place is fantastic! Chic hipsters all over, cool decor, awesome service, and spectacular food. They even have brunch! What more could you ask for? I'm so happy we ventured around to this place we will def be back especially since we are so close! :)

Hands down the best tacos in Philadelphia. I'm a born & raised southern californian & spanish. I've tried many places in the city that claim to be "close to authentic" which is really just mexican fusion. (I hate fusion food). But, the the tacos at Pez remind me of home. It's unfortunate that people base their bad review off of one bad experience. I'd say give it another go because everyone there is very friendly. It's a small bar/restaurant so if you don't like crowds or you don't want to wait then skip it on a weekend night. Plan and simple. I tried their brunch yesterday. Which was delish! & the bloody mary was out of this world. Oh, and too the retards who complain about the tacos being "too small" That's what a REAL taco looks like! If you want a Gordita go to Taco Bell. You are what you eat! :PPP

As a Philly native and foodie I consider myself a pretty tough critic. I can go from Amada to Dalessandro's steaks. From N. Third to Santucci's pizza. I have been to Loco Pez 4 times and it is my favorite place of late. By far the best Margaritas around. I love the classic impala but my wife swear's by the Fairlane! Nacho's (regular without beef) and taco's are spectacular with obvious fresh ingredients. Get the Pollo, Pez and Gabacho (only hard taco available) Even the sauces on the table are tasty. Great dive bar atmosphere and very affordable. 2or 3 bucks a taco. Fabulous!!

went here on a date night with the hubby. it was a friday night so a bit crowded. we wanted a table so we had to wait a little bit, but basically only the time it took to drink a really good margarita. i had a couple gabacho tacos - yum and the hubby had nachos with beef - another yum. good food, good drinks, we were seated by the bar so we could watch a little of the game and still were able to have a conversation. looking forward to a return trip.

I've been really excited to try this place because I love mexican and I've heard great things. I've had take-out nachos from here that were absolutely amazing, so I was very much looking forward to the entire experience. I ordered all the standards: margarita, chips & salsa, 1 chorizo & potato taco and 1 chicken burrito. I dont know if it was because we got there later (10:15 ish) or if they were just having an off day, but I was not impressed. The margarita was the only thing that was excellent. Strong yet very tasty (fairlane) We received all of our food in less than 10 minutes (seriously) which worried me a little bit. The chips tasted like day old tostitos and the salsa had way too much cilantro for my taste. The taco was tiny tiny tiny but I suppose that's why they are 1.75 so i'll give them that (even though I've had bigger single tacos for far less) and the burrito consisted of runny, puree beans and hardly any rice. The reason I give this 3 stars instead of 2 is because the service was extremely friendly and the place was very clean. I am willing to give this place another try, an earlier try and hope for the best!

What a great place. Remind me of El Rey except cheaper and cooler. The drinks are strong and unique. The "plain" nachos could be an entire meal. Three of us tried almost all the available taco choices and not a complaint on one! Highly suggest this neighborhood gem for the great, reasonably priced food and the cute boys running the place!

Pros: more places in Fishtown to eat, the best margs in town (no mix! thank god!), vegan chorizo burritos & fresh fresh guac. Cons: the word is out & it's seemingly always busy. Even so, yay for Loco Pez!

A true Philadelphia treasure. Hands down amongst the best tacos (if not THE very best) I've ever eaten. Great atmosphere: I see it as a blend between a Cantina and a hip city bar, perfect for Fishtown. Staff is fan-tastic (esp the bartenders); they really took care of us as we fired down margaritas (reco their pepper margarita, btw!). Its location is both an advantage and disadvantage: hard to find cabs there, but it is close to the "L" and there tends to be more parking in the area than you'd find in CC. Definitely worth the trip down there!

$4 Margaritas and $4 nachos are a great pregame. The entrees were very good and the bill for two was about $40. Great place.

We were looking for a new experience and decided to forego the big chains and try different than our usual go to places. I found this place off a listing for great burgers, jumped onto yelp saw the great reviews and decided this was a place to try. So we had dinner there last night for the first time. It was moderately packed when we arrived for dinner @ about 8:30 or so on a Tuesday. We saw an empty table in the bar area and seated ourselves a few min later we were given the menu. The waitress was great very knowlegeable about the menu, she was very friendly and refilled our waters frequently. I had a margarita which tasted good, I'm not much of a drinker and it wasn't too strong for me, although I couldn't finish, which is not unusual for me. Food came out quickly and was awesome. We ordered chips and pico which was very fresh and delicious, steak , fish, chicken, soy chorizo, and shrimp tacos (we were hungry and wanted to try a variety). I also tried the burger w/waffle fries which I liked very much as well!! The fries were very good and crispy, they even stayed crispy after sitting a while we finished our food. We came out extremely stuffed and beyond satisfied! Very relaxed atmosphere, with great food and service!!

had a chance to return to this place this past weekend and were very pleased. first off, the bartender with the british accent was still there and hooking us up with good service. started with a kenzi and switched to the margaritas. by 730pm we were nice and toasty, the cocktails are really good. We had the dreaded "party of 7" here, but scored the big back booth and they didn't treat us like lepers and we enjoyed a great meal of tacos, guacamole, waffle fries, and street dogs. This meal even satisfied the exacting standards of our surfer friend who happens to be honduran and thus well schooled in tacquerias... the friday night dinner must have made a strong impression since we had to walk by loco pez on saturday night on our return from a local tiki bar and we stopped in AGAIN to get some drunken take-out food. In the time it took to quaff one of the excellent margaritas, we had some tacos,a burrito, and some waffle fries all bagged up for the stumble home to the row house. we devoured these on our couch and wondered at our good fortune, great mexi-CAN food late night in the heart of fishtown. TASTY! GREAT JOB!

i've been here a few times, the atmosphere is light and the decor is fun. it's a great spot for a first date- tacos are exceptional. i almost want to say best in philly but that is reaching a bit. they're definitely in the running and if you catch it on dollar taco night you win. good beer selection, not sure how often they rotate.

This spot is fantastic! Great addition to the neighborhood. The food is tasty and their sauces (especially the chipotle) are out of this world! I can't wait to get back and try the nachos de kenzo

A nice watering hole to add to the Fishtown area. If you love tequila they have a good selection. The few mixed drinks I had here weren't really good so instead I just stuck to shots. The place has a good vibe and is always packed. If only they had a credit card machine and wasn't cash only it would be 5 stars.

I live on the same block as this place and found it surprising at how many people like this place and how popular it is. I've been spoiled by the recent restaurant and beer scene popping up in the Fishtown neighborhood and when I came here for the first time, I thought I would be getting a decent meal. My bf and I love beer and there weren't much of a selection, 3 Mexican beers and other locals brewery drafts, which I didn't prefer so I didn't order any beers. I ordered a shrimp burrito and my bf ordered 4 tacos, each with different meat on it. The burrito is so small and there were no flavor in the rice or any toppings--there were hardly any. The "tacos" were sOOOooo small, they were the size a large hockey puck. The little bit of meat we got on it did taste flavorful and tender, but it is literally two-bite fulls. When we finished, we were still HUNGRY, so we decided to leave to eat somewhere else where it wasn't overpriced and not satisfying. I do not recommend this place, it feels fake and the name is backwards in Spanish... I will not be returning.

Given the part of town, I was hoping for more of a funky "cantina" than a slick sports bar. The American ESPN monitors, the American waitresses, the American pinball machine, and the American background rock music dispelled any notion I had of enjoying a trip to an authentic Mexican bar. Give the owner credit, though. The wall decor, even the restroom comic pages were in Spanish, and the food was real Mexican. Oh, the guacamole! Lovingly and authenticly prepared. Excellent tacos. I just wish enchiladas and stuffed peppers and tamales were on the menu. You know, authentic Mexican cantina food instead of the Americanized "nachos" that I saw the locals eating across the way with their "diet soda". Yep, they're going to lose weight with that. LOL. OK, so Fishtown is not going to draw enough Mexicans and Mexican food lovers to make a go of it. The beer selection is good, the margaritas are too sweet but better than those made with a mix. The manager and staff were accomodating and friendly. It's a nice , clean, inviting place, albeit crowded in the back dining room. I wish the owner luck with his limited, tasty, and overpriced menu in this neighborhood. Me? I guess I'll return to the Washington Avenue tacquerias and truck in my margarita fixings until someone opens a true Mexican cantina in town.

Delicious!!! Everything is priced appropriately and the food is perfect. Always listen for the specials before making a final decision. Those are always outstanding! Definitely get a michalata! Remember the place is small and does its best to be accommodating but again it's not giant. The service for the most part is fantastic. I asked this past visit for a special television program to be put on that was not a Philadelphia sports team and the bartender was accommodating and changed the channel for me. Yes - I was able to watch the flying Wallenda cross Niagara Falls. Thank you. Remember cash only!

Good bar SAD FOOD. If you're from Philadelphia you will think this is good Mexican food. If your are from out west you'll say "what the hell is that?" My al pastor pork burrito was nothing but rice. No meat, no beans, no sour cream, no cheese, just a rice wrap. I'd give it 2 out of 10 stars at best. Didn't have the tacos, but they were so small they should be embarrassed to serve such finger food. They were more appropriate for small bites being brought around at a cocktail party or event. The bar was very cool though with great atmosphere and fun. Nice friendly staff giving- good service. Get your taps fixed though every beer was flat regardless of which beer. I'm sure they'll fix that soon. I was really hoping for some good Mexican I could walk to, but not for me, but like I said if you don't know any better you'll think it's good. Try Plaza Girabaldi on Washington and 9th. Best I've found in Philly. Mexican is slowly growing and improving here- just need a little more time. It's on it way.

This place is a true turd in the rough. I had high expectations, and was really disappointed. It seems like the worst thing to happen to this hidden spot was a positive review from Craig Laban. We were told that there was a 15-20 minute wait for a table, and ended up waiting almost an hour. The beers are overpriced, some of their flavors are right, but ordering anything with fish in it is a big mistake; the fish burrito tasted like they hooked something out of the dumpster. I may be in the minority giving this place a bad review, but I will never go back there.

I don't know about the rest of the people on here but this was just ok, the services was good and friendly , but the food was so-so.I ordered the pez burrito , one piece of fish and thing fell apart , the tacos were the size of a nickel. They also charge you for chips and salsa , for the price of the burrito and the 6 bucks for the beer at least you could throw in some chips for free . Hipsters would eat hair and on plate and think it's the best thing since sliced bread as long as the place was trendy .

I've lived in Mexico on and off for years. I know tacos. And this place is so good, I could weep. It's life changing. Seriously. Having been exiled to Fishtown has been brutal. Loco Pez has saved my life and probably my relationship. The tacos (you could also choose burritos or quesadillas): a single small tortilla, chopped onion and cilantro, lime and radish on the side, choose your filling. The al pastor (with pineapple) was sublime, the chorizo and papa muy auténtico (very authentic), and the pollo, simple and perfect. No dry meat or fatty weird gristle you need to pull from your mouth, disgusting the people around you. Just beautifully seasoned simple authentic tacos. The fish taco, with crema and shaved cabbage, was absolutely the most perfect thing (as good as I've had in Baja, almost). Black refried beans (frijoles diablos?) to die for (was there epazote in there? I dunno but they were amazing), topped with cotija cheese (nothing smothered in low quality cheddar cheese here) and served with some chips. And the hot dog. Yes. The hot dog. I don't even eat hot dogs. I don't think anybody should eat hot dogs. They should cease to exist as a food. But lord, god, smothered in, hmmm, was it pickled jalapeños and salsa, I don't even remember. I just remember feeling true love. Vegetarians: do not fret. There are options. Soy chorizo (which I've eaten often both here and in Mexico and man, what they can do with TVP. It's good) and mushrooms. Yummy. The margarita was not a sweet sticky mess that gave me a sugar high rather than a tequila high, but was clean and perfect, rocks and salt (yes, they have liquor!). They have cheladas and micheladas (the latter is a beer with soy sauce, lime, hot sauce, worcestershire, salsa maggi, and more. at least I hope that's how they prepare theirs. I know, it sounds terrible. It is not and will blow your mind on a warm summer day). The decor: oh sweet jesus! Thank you! Finally a Philly restaurant that isn't in need of serious help with decorating (Kraftwork, you are great, but the giant wrenches and gloss on the exposed brick walls? C'mon! The awning at Fathom and those bulky chairs that barely fit in the small dining area? And Sketch, don't even get me started with that color scheme...). It's simple 70s stuff and feels both clean and homey (if you are over 35 and have spent as much time in bars as I did as a child [don't ask]). It's perfect. PERFECT. This morning my husband woke up and told me he felt the kind of giddy optimism a man feels when he meets a woman he thinks could be the great love of his life. That woman is Loco Pez. It has changed him. Yes, I'm sure the owner and bartender (very nice, very skilled) thought we were freaks, the way we were carrying on, weeping, wanting to make out with them in gratitude. But so be it. I'll probably never eat anywhere again. Mil gracias Pez Loco. Te quiero con todo mi corazón. Abrazos!

I live nearby and did not realize a new place has opened up again in Fishtown. WOW, Im so impressed with my area, being here 6 years as a single homeowner. I tried this place tonight and was impressed. I did not give 5 stars because the do not have a credit card machine and no frozen margaritta's which I love. I compared this to El Vez and N. Third's blood orange margaretta's so they were pretty comparable and definately went down easy...I just like that sweet aftertaste that I get from drinking it frozen. The FOOD is a great price, love the tapas style and eclectic menu. I had the satan and camarones taco's along with guacamole. It was definately a very nice evening after such a HARD HARD day at work. I will come back and bring friends. Kudos to opening up another great place in Fishtown. Shonta C.

We've gone three weeks in a row for dinner and have not been disappointed at all. Their margaritas are tasty and strong (rare combination) and their food is great and cheap! We did have to wait a while each time for a table, but we waited at the bar and enjoyed some drinks which passed the time quickly. The homemade hot sauces are a nice touch. The green one is especially spicy and great on their chips. The tacos themselves are small but there is plenty of meat and tons of flavor. Everyone is nice and they work to get you a table as fast as they can. It is cash only, but there's an ATM in the restaurant for those that don't plan ahead. This is a great new neighborhood spot.

Great addition to the Fishtown scene. Happy Hour (5-7) is the best with reduced price drinks and appetizers. The tacos are great and at around $2 each, the price can't be beat. The employees and nice and friendly and the service is prompt. The word is out and Friday nights can be very busy.

Great addition to Fishtown. After three visits we've only tried the tacos and guacamole - fresh and tasty every time with six or so varieties of tacos to choose from. Tacos come with sides of lime and three house sauces in plastic squeeze bottles. Margaritas are good and strong and the beer draft selection is pretty good. Mellow vibe with good music and friendly staff. Thumbs up.

I live on Berks street and boy oh boy I am uber excited that this jewel is in walking distance from me. I am so in love with this new hipster spot, I ate there 3 times in the last 7 days. I have no COMPLAINTS. The happy hour actually has prices that will make and keep you happy; you can't beat $ 4 margaritas. Even if you have to pay full price, 6 bucks aint bad! Everything on the menu is great the nachos are to die for not like those generic restaurants with piled on globs of cheese and thick slices of jalapeños that leaves you feeling like you have just consumed 3 pounds of slightly baked cheddar and monetary jack cheese. It is actually authentic Mexi street food that satisfies the pallet and all you Mexican cravings. The space is small so you will probably be waiting for a table depending on what time that you decide to go. If you are able to go around opening time then, you will be in great shape. So hurry up and go enjoy the best local Mexican place in Fishtown!

I live nearby and have been to the place a few times before my last experience. I went with a party of 6 on Saturday night, after checking in with the server we were told to wait. We did, as there was only one table available that can accommodate our size. About 20 minutes later the booth opens up and we proceed over after informing the waitress that took my name down. After a few moments a sever tells us we have to get up because there was another group of 6 that wanted the table. The problem occurs in that the other group was not there when we checked in. If so why were we not informed upon check in. It became obvious that the other group was "friendly with the staff". So we left. To this and my previous experiences, the staff is not very accommodating, many of them come off as angry hipsters (as is the majority of the patrons) if you're not one, which I am not, the service reflects it. It's unfortunate but the staff should make the place inviting but in this case they don't. If you like tacos, tight jeans and flannel, the place is a hit..if you are looking for a welcoming neighborhood establishment look elsewhere.

unfortunately I was extremely underwhelmed with this place. definitely not "LA street truck style" food. the tacos were dry and lacked flavor. the bartender was headier than thou with the i'm too cool for school hipster attitude. margaritas were a bit meh and the salsa was like a garnish. definitely won't repeat but I am sure some other local hipsters will take my seat.

When I first heard about Loco Pez I was picturing a fine lavish cantina that delivered fresh and delicious tacos and guacamole with strong margaritas. But walking in and seeing a chill neighborhood dive bar that delivered all of those things made it even better! From the crazy Pez dispenser collection that the Fish is partly named for and the eclectic art throughout, to a solid brunch offering and dollar taco night, Loco Pez is a fun and inexpensive occasion every time that you go. And that's why the cash only bar has been given the designation of being a perfect cheap date location on more than one occasion ( philly.thedrinknation.co… ). The bar is fully loaded with plenty of local beers on draft and in bottles and cans. And it offers 25 tequilas making making it a perfect spot for fresh made cocktails with Latin flare. As a result of this its a given that they make some damn good margaritas, but I quickly learned to prefer going on the road to El Dorado with its Espolon Blanco, Mezcal Joven, muddled grapefruit, habanero, lime. but there's also a couple of Sangrias, mimosas and bloody Mary's for brunch, and Micheladas for the perfect beer cocktail with a kick. With so many taco, burrito, enchilada, and quesadilla options available its near impossible to choose what you order. especially when you add inexpensive Americano goods like a chili dog and burger with waffle fries into the mix. but with options like chicken, shrimp, fish, seitan & spinach, and soy chorizo or regular w/ potato to fill your order with; your belly is happy no matter what you choose. Especially if you get a side of ultra fresh guacamole with chips.

If you're ever up for exploring Philly then please visit this spot in Fishtown. I'll admit, it's hard to get to by public transit. If you get off of the Market-Frankford line (also called the L), then you'll find yourself walking through an area that seems a little sketchy at night. Once you get to the restaurant you'll see that it's hopping. People with their booze and food. Keep in mind that it's a small place that gets kind of loud. Really great for the hipster or young crowd (that probably includes me). I tried the carne asada, chorizo (of course), and the al pastor. All very delicious. I wish I still lived in Philly just to revisit this place because I didn't go often while I was there.

Huge fan of this place. Have been a handful or times and brought a friend from out of town this weekend. He loved it. The Nachos de Kenzo is one of the best plate of nachos in the city. It's got 3 kinds of meats, guac and the perfect ratio of chips to toppings. Wide variety of tacos that are $3 and under each. Cash only but there is an ATM.

Oh, Loco Pez. I still love you, even though you took the Black Beans Diablo off the menu. That was my favorite side. My favorite server, Hillary, knew it too. (Shout out to Hillary!) Apparently they weren't a huge seller. Insert sadface here. Updating my review to reflect the following info: Loco Pez now has takeout beer! Loco Pez is now open for lunch! Loco Pez is still awesome! Try the bloody maria with chipotle infused tequila for a seriously spicy spin on a standard brunch drink.

$1 tacos, bomb pozole soup, nachos the size of your head and great drinks-- pretty much, enough said. The tacos are amazing-- simple with onion and cilantro (the way they should be). The pozole is like none other that I've had in Philly-- makes me miss LA! Perfectly seasoned, a bit spicy and with the shredded lettuce, radish and spices to add on top. Sooooo good! The nachos are perfect to split with someone, as I'm not sure someone alone could finish such a huge plate! Hard to find seating for dollar taco night though, so you better get there early!

The food is so good. I'm a huge Mexican food fan, and I've been coming here for years. The service is always so nice and useful. This time my man and I got the nachos to start with, which are absolutely huge, and amazing. We got a ton of tacos after that, my favorite is the al pastor! The octopus taco was a special for the night too, really good. You can't go wrong with trying one of each. Flan could be better :( but hey, you shouldn't even have room for dessert after all the tacos you eat! The building itself has some character, feels so cozy and fun.

I absolutely love this place, great atmosphere, staff, food and drinks! What else is there? A plus, happy hour specials are legit and they have $1 tacos once a week. My favorite taco place in the city, I never leave disappointed.

$1 tacos (seems to usually be tues or weds, check their Facebook!) that are delicious! My favorite tacos in Philly but they are pretty far from me so I don't get out there often. Their drinks are decent and they have some cheaper beers, but I would go here mainly for their tacos, full or at the discounted price because they are just as delicious either way. The Camerones tacos are my favorite!

We had just walked in - put our names on the wait list- meandered to the bar and asked for a cheap beer. Before even glancing at us or noting that we were committed for the night ( and live in the neighborhood) the bartender har-har-har-d at us and told us to go across the street. So we did! And with minimal regrets after I've written this review, I'm happy to say that we- and the people I've told about this unfortunate experience- will not return because faux Mexican in fish town is not worth the popularity contest!

I must have missed the Loco Pez Kool Aid, because i just don't get it. I will say the Kenzo nachos are pretty fabulous, but that's where it begins and ends for me. Nothing has ever been outright bad, but nothing blows me away either. The quesadillas are the saddest looking things anyone has ever seen. I'd actually prefer a Taco Bell quesadilla over the one served at Loco Pez. It was basically a tortilla with a little smattering of melted cheese and shrimp so tiny they could be mistaken for sea monkeys. The lettuce, tomato, and sour cream are on the side, so you essentially have to make your own quesadilla. I ordered a shrimp burrito which was aight...but I have had better burritos at chipotle. Drinks are pretty good, if a little on the expensive side. I quite like the Fairlane. I'm thinking that Loco Pez is probably five stars in dollar taco night. But every other night of the week, it's just ok.

Born and raised in Philly ate Mexican foods all over Philly all my life, these are the tiniest one shell vrs two on a taco, dried pork, dried lime n only one piece per 6 tacos, no receipt from take out, very very disapointed in this place!

It is a bit of a walk from the temple area to fishtown, but it is definitely worth it. Margaritas are awesome and you can not beat when they have $1 taco night. Al pastor and carne asada are among the best I have ever had. Will be back soon!

Stopped here on Saturday while I was on a bike ride called the tour de taco. 20 miles, 10 taco stops. This was stop 10. I took the strategy of one at each stop which was pretty ambitious. Here I wound up ordering the al pastor taco. It is one of my favorite styles of taco, and I hadnt tried it yet that day, so I gave it a shot. I also ordered a classic margarita, because my friend had told me they were his favorites in town. While I cant say it was my favorite, (see my review on Sancho Pistolas), it was a very well done margarita. Again rocks all the way, and always salt on the rim. I sucked down another two of these bad boys quickly. I also scarfed down the taco. Thank god it was small because I had 9 others inside me already. The flavor was really good though. It had really nice sweet a spice to it. The little tortillas were packed full of al pastor goodness. The decoration was really weird and not at all what I was expecting, but I am glad I the name makes more sense now...Pez dispensers everywhere. Its a really fun atmosphere. I would definitely come back again.

I live in Fishtown and even though everyone that visits me wants to go here, I cannot recommend Loco Pez at all. Navigating the baffling seating procedure is the first hurdle - there's no hostess, but tables are always reserved. Good luck finding how to get on the secret waiting list; there's no one to help you and your best bet is to be yelled at by other patrons when you skip the line. The yelling will at least tell you who to talk to. Ok, you say, I'll sit at the bar. Well, unfortunately, there's usually only one bartender and she/he is constantly overwhelmed. No barback to help, and frankly, it's a big bar. So it's completely hit or miss whether you will get served in anything approaching a timely manner, and if you do, don't expect anything more than a gruff, passing "you doing ok?". I can't say much about the food - never had the stamina to actually stay there long enough to order anything. But what I've seen looks pretty basic: anglicized tex-mex, heavy on the squeeze bottle sour cream. Drinks are watered down, and not particularly flavorful. Avoid the michelada especially. Finally, don't forget that Loco Pez is cash-only. Which would be fine if it was a regular taqueria. But people tell me it's tough getting out of there without spending $40 per person, especially if you have drinks. If you still insist on going to Loco Pez, good luck.

Tacos for cheap, and a tasty margarita Don't take the four star rating too literally, just know that I truly like this spot but can't just give it five stars because of my infatuation; it's not that kind of place... think of your general corner bar layout and you'll know what Loco looks like. Located in a pleasant little section of fishtown, the bar has a warm and saucy vibe: they were professional and friendly, but I got the feeling if I started popping off at the mouth they wouldn't be afraid to pop me in the mouth. Basically got one of every taco, and my favorites were no surprise for me since I am such a meat fan, but I'd bet chorizo was my top. I was filled when I finished eating, but honestly I could eat those little Mexican salads on a shell all day if had the time (and it wouldn't have hurt my wallet too much to boot). I would definetly come back for a quick lunch or a long night with no second thoughts.

Our favorite food in fishtown and we're likely enough to live right around the corner! The service and staff are awesome and it's generally busy with a very friendly neighborhood crowd. I've never had a bad meal here and their veggie choices are delicious!

Me and my girlfriend came here one night to get some margaritas and some food and I have to say I was really impressed, the food was awesome, we were sat right away. I ended up getting a Carne Asada Burrito and it was huge! Enough to share between two people, but I wasn't sharing that night! My girlfriend ended up getting the Pez Tacos and she loved them! I love that we get fresh salsa and chips to munch on while we sit and wait and the service was very good. Our waitress made sure we had drinks and checked on us constantly. It was a nice night out for some good food and some strong drinks after a long week. They're cash only so don't forget to tap mac! We will be back !

I cannot stress just how great of a place this is if you want good Mexican food and a drink. I love their $1 taco days (check their facebook and twitter to see when they are, it changes every week), but their prices are more than reasonable on regular days. The staff is pretty friendly and attentive too, and the music they play is always on point. Overall, this place is a must visit for anybody in Fishtown.

I went here on a date a few weeks ago. Even though he turned out to be terrible, the food was amazing! This place is tiny and really easy to miss. When you go inside, you'll realize it's like a rowhome just with a bar and a lot more people in it. They definitely cram you in there but hey. It's worth it. I'm not a fan of spicy food so i was worried about going here and hating it and looking like an ass on a first date, but he ordered me the chicken quesadillas that were absolutely incredible. There was definitely a little kick to them but it was doable. The service kinda sucked and we had to sit at the bar and the bartender just didn't care about us whatsoever but we had each other's company which worked...for that night. I would definitely go back. Sometimes when the food is so good, you can overlook bad service! And maybe if we were sitting at a table it would have been different! I'll be back though! :)

I'm so happy my friend brought me here. I was visiting from NYC and unsure of this plaice. It's actually quite perfect. The special taco was steak writ potatoes and insanely yummy. The fish and pork tacos were also really good. Living in New York made me unreasonably picky about food, but this bar food was better than most Mexican restaurants I've been to. Bravo!

I'm a fan of this place. Other than the import, the service is generally sub par. I've had better Mexican food, however I'm into cheap tacos, the 70's living room dive bar atmosphere, and it's a short walk from my apartment. Dollar taco night is always fun to stumble upon. Tune into their twitter account for what night they decide to have it. If you want authentic Mexican food you've come to the wrong place. Their garbacho taco is the classic hard shell taco you had at your friend's place after school. Ground beef, lettuce, pico, and cheese - I'm a sucker for it. The rest of their tacos are served the more traditional style on a small soft tortilla. I'm a big fan of their happy hour: $4 for a huge plate of nachos, $4 house margaritas, and $3 drafts. Good for a cheap dinner alone or with a friend and some cheap drinks to drown your sorrows from the day.

    1. The bar tender was incredibly rude. I walked in, sat at an open bar seat and he literally yelled at me saying "didn't you see the line?!" No, I didn't see the line because I'm not your hostess. I saw an open seat, no one took it so I did. 2. When my friend finally asked for a drink he said "I was ready 20 minutes ago". Really? No you weren't because you were busy yelling at me. 3. This bar was too crowded for food. Not their fault, not necessarily a bad thing, but just an FYI. I went for $1 tacos and couldn't get any. 4. Hipsters. Everywhere. To be expected? Maybe. Bad? Not necessarily. Just not my scene. However, I would have chilled if I could get food and the bartender wasn't an ass. Would never go here again. Mainly because of the bartender. There are too many bars for me to deal with his negative attitude.

I went here for the second time last night, and it's definitely becoming one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city. Yesterday's special was a scallop taco that was absolutely to die for. I had two and a whiskey ginger which definitely satisfied me. Honestly the only thing wrong with the place is the abundance of pseudo-hipsters and ex-sorority girls on their phones, but that's only to be expected in Fishtown. Do yourself a favor and stop in for some giant nachos and reasonable priced Mexican grub. And if you can nab a seat at the bar? The bartenders are great and will give you all the suggestions in the world.

While the Nachos Pez were outstanding the tacos left little to be desired. The al pastor taco was overly sweet and dry and I've had a better hard shell taco with ground beef (Gabacho Taco) from Taco Bell. Slightly disappointed. Would go back for the nachos and a cocktail, but nothing else.

The food is usually great. Only real downfall is that they get so busy, it can be hard to find a seat. I get take-out a lot from them and it's always good!

The tacos are great! I like how they have their $1 taco nights randomly. They always make little clever posts on Twitter and Facebook to let you know when it's going on that day. Plus, I can never say no to a margarita there. My personal favorite is the Coupe de Ville. I get it every time I'm there (which is often since it's right in my neighborhood), to the point that one of the servers sees my face and immediately asks if I want a Coupe de Ville lol. Servers and bartenders there are always nice and attentive!

Stopped in here for some tacos and margaritas. It was my first and will not be my last. Tacos were great, server was quick and polite. Drinks were tasty and strong, nothing worse than paying $9 for a juice. I would recommend at least 3 to 4 tacos if your are not doing an appitizer or side as they are not very filling. Make sure to bring cash as they do not take cards. I also would not recommend the house margarita as it was not very tasty, it might have been the tequila though as I do not like rail.

Took the day off and decided on Loco for lunch. Friendly staff, cold beer, good margarita and tacos that actually have some flavor! My husband and I had the pollo, mushroom and the fish tacos. Be sure to use the verde sauce and the extra hot, yum! Prices not bad either. Only downside was that it felt like the artic in there....but will def go back.

This place freaking rocks!!! The little burritos are the bomb and they come proper with the variety of tequila (not even a tequila drinker) Oh and the cast of characters and bartenders here make the magic happen... 2 of the 3 times I went there just to have a beer I ended up closing down the bar, waking up on my bathroom floor with my boxer briefs on backwards, and had work the next day both times... I know I participated in some type of dance off/contest and obviously came in fourth but the others cheated... Great spot to let loose.

Tonight my boyfriend and I got take out. It was our first time eating here and it was delicious! Food was delicious and prepared so fast!! Atmosphere was very cool and employees were friendly. He got a pollo burrito, it was huge and delicious! I got fish and shrimp tacos, both tasty. Price was reasonable and portions were big. I would most definitely recommend. Also, if getting takeout, there is a side door where you can conveniently enter to pick up food!

If I lived here I would be a weekly regular. The nachos and pez tacos are both so so so excellent and the price is definitely right! When in Fishtown, get the fish tacos. Tasty cocktail menu as well!

Liked this place. I had been hearing about Loco Pez for quite some time and I was very eager to try it. Not to say I was disappointed but I can't say it held up to the hype. I went for $1 taco day and it was happy hour. The tacos were ok who can really complain about a $1 taco. However, I can't say that I will go back on a regular day. All in all it was a decent fish taco but not he best ever. I highly recommend the soy chorizo. It was pretty delish!

Man, I am sort of sad that I am just finding out about this place now. Loco Pez is so great! I went for brunch today. We sat at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and got us beers and food faster than I could have imagined. A friend and I shared Nachos with Guac. Their nacho set up is perfect. I had 3 tacos, 2 carne asada and one chorizo & potato. Both fantastic, though I think I liked the chorizo ones better. I will def be bringing visitors here next week when they come to town.

This is a great new spot in Fishtown with super cheap tacos and tasty margaritas. The service is great, but the place gets slammed on the weekends. It can be worth the wait...unless you're stumbling from the last bar. Find a little time somewhere to give it a shot. I'm pretty sure you'll be back!

The Mexican food here really does not hold a candle to some other places out of state. But that is the problem...they all are in the Pilsen area of Chicago!!! So thankfully I can get an Al Pastor taco from Loco Pez. And for better or worse, they have a surprise dollar taco night. Which you can find out from twitter, or facebook, or their website, or whatever nauseating social media network you subscribe to. Great in theory, tough in execution, it is always jam packed. Some how, some way the bartenders there keep it straight and cool. I applaud them for their amazing skill and patience! The margarita's are decent, but all around I would not suggest going to Loco Pez outside of happy hour and dollar taco nights. It is a bit over priced and always crowded. The type of people who would rather shove you out of the way to sit at a bar seat, then be decent, make eye contact, and have a humanly confrontation. Pros: Great prices on happy hour, dollar taco night, and EXCELLENT staff Cons: Overly crowded with no place to stand.

The food is really great but the staff and service sucks!! After waiting for more then an hour for the food, it takes the staff forever to get the drinks and food to you.

I went with high expectations hoping what I read on yelp was right. I started off with a margarita. It was the worst drink I have ever had in a bar. It was made so strong with cheap tequila that I couldn't even stand more than a sip or two. The nachos were great however the meat served was flavorless. We had a variety of tacos to try all of the meats that were offered. The meat was bland and I was so disappointed. We will not be going back.

I just wanted to add I really enjoy the brunch here as well. I've had brunch a few times here, and I like their Bloody Mary's (albeit, I doubt they are vegetarian).

Oh Loco Pez, how do I love thee - let me count the ways....Happy hour is awesome, solid margaritas and great nacho specials. I hope I get to take advantage of the dollar taco night tweet sometime soon, but they are still soooo worth it if not. Soy chorizo taco's an enchiladas are comfort food to chase away the worst Monday you can imagine (the margarita doesn't hurt either).

This place is great. First of all, it's right around the corner from my house so I can pop in on a whim almost anytime. Secondly, the food is excellent. I have tried my fair share of Mexican spots in the city and this place can hang with the best of them. The Happy Hour is a great deal, with half price nachos and drink specials. It is pretty kid friendly around dinner time as well. I have been in several times with my daughter and there are always other people with kids. There are only a couple of downsides to Loco Pez. First, it is really, really small. Which is cool, except for the fact that if you show up after 6:00, you will be standing in the middle of the place waiting for a table. Secondly, it is extremely loud. Since the space is so small and completely open, the noise travels through the whole place and makes it pretty tough to have a conversation. Also, the tacos are tiny. I understand that they are meant to be a snack or "bar food," but they are literally two bite tacos. If you plan on making a meal out of them, get at least three or four.

It's amazing to me how someone can review a restaurant and give an impression from a restaurant's opening month. This is one of the most hectic period and when a place "figures itself out." Had Nachos during happy hour. (Half off 5-7, beer/margarita specials) Nachos have mounds of beans, pico de gallo, and cheese. I loved it. I'm also a huge fan of the shot of tomato juice thing that is given with a shot of tequila. So many different flavors in it. Follow Loco Pez on twitter to see when they are having dollar tacos!

So my wife and I tried to come here two Friday's ago at 4:15 pm before a benefit to grab some grub and were told at the side door that they don't open until 5 pm. Really? Five o'clock on a Friday...whatever. So we went back this past Friday at 5. I've go to say that they have a great happy hour, $3 drafts, $4 house margaritas, and $4 nachos. We sat at the bar and my wife had a margarita and I a PBC Harvest From the Hood. Her drink was tasty and seemed like it was the real deal and not a premade mix. Atmosphere was cool and the bathrooms were bright, clean and the Spanish comic book wallpaper with the buxom women was totally fun. Perused the menu and started with the Nachos de Kezo. Carne Asada, Pulled Chicken and Chorizo and Potatoes loaded on to delicious chips with melted cheese, Crema and Guacamole. Holy cow they were awesome. The bartender told us they also make them as Nachos De K & A but use waffle fries instead of chips. We will definitely try them next time. Then onto the tacos. We ordered the fish and the shrimp tacos. Yes they were small but they are only $2-$2.50. The ingredients were well prepared but it seemed like they needed some seasoning somewhere along the line. Both were a little bland but coked perfectly. A little salt can go a long way. Maybe that's why they give you 4 to 5 different sauces in a little bucket with your order. Overall we enjoyed the chill vibe and the nachos but thought the tacos were a little lacking in the flavor department. We will give this one another try.

Woo-hoo for another neighborhood spot I can walk to! I've tried almost all of the drinks and my favorite is the Monte Carlo, with a nice chipotle spicy kick to it. Nom. The traditional margarita was ok, nothing to freak out about, but tasty. Beer selection is pretty awesome and they give you a tomato juice concoction as a chaser for tequila shots, kinda rad if you ask me. The food is really quite tasty, and the veggie options are plentiful. You can get tacos (tiny, but three will fill you up pretty nicely), quesadillas, or burritos filled with the two veggie offerings of mushrooms or soy chorizo. The soy chorizo is super yummy, the mushrooms can be a little bland, so I suggest those in the quesadilla. Combined with the salty cheese they're muy delicioso. The guacamole was fresh and tasty, as was the pico de gallo that comes with the chips and salsa. The nachos were a little bland for me, with cheese sort of crumbled on top, and not really melty. I'd try them again though. So far the only fail was the burrito. The tortilla tasted freezer burned and the rice was crunchy. Could've been an off night, but still. Your best bet is the tacos. They're bare bones, with just onion, cilantro, and your filling. I hate cilantro and am not a fan of the raw onion so I scrape mine onto my husband's plate and the flavor of the chorizo is still enough to satisfy. It can get packed on weekends, but with table and bar seating you don't usually have to wait long. I hope they start serving brunch soon. HINT HINT. Oh and cash only folks, but there's an ATM.

I love that Loco Pez. Here's what I'm screamin: Tequila! Margaritas! Nice array of beers for ya! Magnificent Nachos! Delicious little tacos! Great salsas! Great bar! Juke box! I screamed these things, like I told you, and so now I have a nice bit of breathing room on the bus. Informative right? Yes... and convenient for me, this some-kinda- Mexicali-foodstuffs-and-drinks-yellin' tick. So yeah, Loco Pez supplies tequilas a-plenty and some lovely margaritas, from the classic style Impala, to the blood orangey Coupe De Ville. There are abouts six or so beers on tap, and many cans and bottles, including your Mexican favorites along with the crafty. The nachos are grande and come highly recommended by me, as they are loaded, well-layered, and not skimpy in the least, even if you order the o.g. non-meatsy ones...but try those Nachos de Kenzo some time if you do dig on chorizo and carne asada, cause that's likely all you'll need outta life. I love that the tacos here at Loco Pez are lil fellas on smaller sized corn tortillas, cause that makes em ripe for the makings of a personal taco combo fiesta for yourself. I'm sayin, a la carte and mix n match that mutha. My favorite tacos of theirs include the super flavorful shredded pollo- if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times; I love a tasty Tinga! I found the mash up of chorizo and potato to be delicious, tambien. The cochinita pibil of roasty, juicy pork with pickled red onions are straight up lip smackin. I'm tellin you... Love the mushroom tacos too. For a place called Crazy Fish, I've still yet to try a fish taco here. Strange. Hmm. I should get on that. Make sure to try every salsa in the bucket. To these salsas I do the international hand gesture of chef kissy fingers. Good stuff. I'm a fan of lotsas salsas, ya know. I enjoy. This Loco Pez is a fine, fine example of the kinda neighborhood bar I'd like to have in me own. They have a goood jukebox too- always appreciate that. We've always gotten good service here t'boot. We keep on comin back. More aspects to yell at ya face piece: Happy hour deals! Dope, dope brunch cures your every hangover! Shrugs: Cash only.

Best. I have nothing bad to say about these guys, they're doing Mexican Jesus' work and showering Fishtown with tacos as God intended. I've tried most of their dishes and enjoyed the living fuck out of each one. Drunken midnight nachos and Margaritas is a guilty pleasure. Viva la flatulence!!

Cool local spot when I had friends in the area that had good beer and tacos - good for either breakfast/lunch or dinner/late night. Prices are not crazy, selection is good (for pretty much anyone including vegetarians), and the staff is not pretentious or aloof and are very helpful. Good for large or small groups.

Tonight was it for me, I've eaten at loco pez one too many times besides the mediocre food which is flavorless, uninspired and pedestrian but what puts the icing on the cake for me was tonight's bartender Lauren her attitude was shity and the service sucked. This is s hipsters wet dream so anybody with tastebuds should stay away.

Think of a deranged Mexican grandmother's 1950's style American home mixed with Mexican cuisine that is out of this world: welcome to Loco Pez. Décor is great- limited seating, but it makes for a close knit atmosphere. The prices are very moderate: I had four tacos and two sides with tip for a solid $20. You cannot bEAT it! I think I went overboard on how much I ate, but you know what they say... when in Rome (in this case Mehico). The carne asada taco, shrimp taco, chorizo, and hard shell were flavorful. The only qualm I had was with their sauces- lacked a bit of flavor and spice. The guacamole was cool and fresh and the green rice had a different taste- both added a bit of excitement to my dish. If I ventured back to Fishtown I would definitely stop in to this restaurant again- the tacos are so inexpensive that it is perfect for a quick bite.

By far my favorite Mexican spot in the city. Going on record over here. Fantastic guacamole, chips, and salsa. Excellent selection of tacos no matter what you're in the mood for (meat, seafood, vegetarian) . They also seem to always have a list of food specials for the night. Last night we went with the scallop tacos and the pig wings from the specials list. Out of this world. My other go-to items are the carne asada, al pastor, and chorizo tacos. Burritos are solid is as well. Overall I don't think I've ever had something I didn't like from here. Beer wise, they have a substantial list of drafts and cans. And if you've ever been here in the past, you've probably had to wait for a table at some point. Don't worry about that now, they just opened the second room as a larger dining room, so there shouldn't be an issue in the future. Well, maybe on $1 taco night. Pro tip, if you don't feel like waiting for a table just order ahead. They do take out. It's only street parking in this area so be prepared to drive around a bit during peak hours.

  • Kelly S.

I was excited to finally get a chance to try this place, because every time I've tried to go- they're packed! Like no standing room packed. Good sign? After standing smashed in a corner, waiting for a table - it became apparent that most of the crowd consisted of local hipsters filling up the bar area, not so much people waiting to eat. I was excited to try the vegetarian options for tacos -and warning- they are very, very small. Like 3-4 bites. I ended up getting 2 soy chorizo + 2 seitan/spinach. The soy chorizo weren't any better than I make at home + I would've probably passed on the seitan ones if I wasn't still so hungry. Plus sides: the waitress was really sweet/attentive + the guacamole was tasty. Drinks are expensive, even the 'cheap' beer ... We were a little devastated by the bill.

Ok. Let's face it. Search all you want but the Tacos and Burritos available in this town don't hold a candle to the stuff you can get in Southern California or Texas etc. There is nothing like Torchy's and that is sad. The closest I have experienced around these parts is right here at Loco Pez. Maybe similar is the wrong description. Let's just say that the best taco I've had in Philadelphia is here. They have a selection of fillings and you decide if you want it in a Taco or a Burrito, Enchilada or Quesadilla form. Then you tell someone and a short time later someone brings your choice to you. I like the fact that you can get as many or as few tacos as you want and each one is inexpensive, as little as $1.50 and the expensive ones are merely $3. If you're looking for some cheap eats you can get in and out of here for easily under $10 even if you have a beer. Or you could go crazy and order one of each taco for about $21. The decor is divey, hipster, neighborhood bar and everybody is friendly. If you've read some of my other reviews you know how I feel about places that don't accept credit cards. This place is cash only so be forewarned. Maybe because they are essentially a dive bar it's more ok. Or maybe if they accepted credit cards they'd get a fifth star from me.

Went here on a whim with friends in an effort to "branch out" from our usual spots. I had the white sangria while they both had a beer. The sangria was soooo good! a hint of sweet, a nice brandy kick, and small chunks of fruit. I think my only complaint would be that the glass wasn't big enough (it was that good!) For dinner we shared the epic nachos with all the meats and a couple of tacos--al pastor and a special of the day. The food was really, really good. The portion of nachos was huge for the price so we almost didn't need the tacos. The house sauces were good and we enjoyed trying them out. Perhaps a bit thin, but still very flavorful! There was a soccer game on and whatever team was losing made everyone in the bar area depressed. Our server was sweet and attentive! We will definitely be back!

Visiting my husband's cousin in Philly this weekend, he wanted to take us to a good Mexican place for margaritas. This place was perfect! There was a little wait when we got there so we ordered our first round of drinks at the bar. i got the coupe de ville maragarita which was made with blood orange and had a spicy salt on the rim. It was delicious and I ended up having another one later on. There was a chorizo taco special, so my husband and I each got one of those tacos. The he got a chicken burrito and I got the carne asada quesadillas. We also ordered nachos as an app, no beans which was cool cause my husband isnt a fan of beans, and the guac was great. Very delish. i would definitely go back next time we are in Philly. :)

I have been to Loco Pez at least 4 times in the past 2 years and it is always a welcome treat for me. The tacos are fresh and tasty..Went to dollar taco night last week with a group of four ...We had a drink each along with black been dip and 3 tacos each....Total bill with tip was less than $40.00 :) and delicious...

In search of good fish tacos, I was directed to Loco Pez by a talk thread. I ended up bringing along the brother and his wifey to help me on my journey. There were a few things that caught my eye on the menu, but I was here for tacos and so tacos are what I got. I ordered 2 fish, 1 pork, and 1 steak. The pork and steak were both ok. The flavors were there, but both needed some sauce to help make them better. He felt the same way about the tacos. The sauces were fun to mix and match. The fish tacos were good, but the piece of fish was so tiny, it was more cabbage than anything else. Surprisingly, the waffle fries my brother ordered were really good. I don't even like waffle fries. Service was awesome. Cash only...good thing we had that dinero.

The service was good but the food was mediocre. I love chicken tortilla soup and had high hopes. My Dad loves posole. Sadly, these two soups were almost identical and neither tasted good - they were both very spicy with a burnt flavor. My stepmom's chorizo burrito was not tasty either. She is convinced the meat was actually ground beef. Tacos or nachos seem to be a better bet here. Also, the music is super loud and it's definitely a festive bar vibe which is cool but not what we were expecting. Again, the service was good and the place was packed. Most of the happy people had margaritas and nachos. It's more of that kind of place.

If you're devoid of any Vegan/Gluten-free restrictions like myself, I HIGHLY recommend the Kenzo Nachos. They're bangin'. Solid beer selection and from what my friend was saying about the margarita he ordered, they're pretty good as well. I'd suggest splitting the nachos and then getting a few tacos per person. The chicken burrito wasn't what I was expecting (I couldn't tell where the chicken was with all the refried beans) but it was still good. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Great food! Traditional Mexican, not Tex-Mex. I always get the pez and camarones tacos. The nachos are also excellent. Brunch is delicious. I recommend huevos divorciados. The staff is just stellar. SO nice. We bring our baby and they are so accommodating. Last night they gave us an extra table to put his booster seat on - so helpful! My one complaint is that too many people know how awesome it is so it can get crowded!

Okay yelpers we get it, Loco Pez has superb food! Now, can we talk about what really irritates me? Thanks.... Start accepting credit cards. It really irritates me when I have to walk through your very small and always crowded establishment to the back and bother those poor four people at those two uncomfortably small looking baby tables they are sitting at. I can hear them breathing that's how close they are sitting to each other. That's how close I am standing to them as I withdraw money out of the ATM. Just saying..... No, I will not start carrying cash. I never have and I never will. That is all.

As 2013 winds down my mission to hit all the Top 50 Bars from 2012 in 2013 has hit a fast track. Which had me at Loco Pez early on a Monday night but the place got packed fast. Probably because they have a great happy hour, $3 draft beer, $4 margaritas and half off nachos easy to see why. I had some friends rave about the taco and other say they were so-so so I just got one, randomly selected the mushroom and I loved it. The bartender ask if I like spice and recommended a few drops of El Yucateca Chili Habenero sauce to match my taco selection. I took the recommendation, it was great for those who want a small kick but the mushroom taco would of been excellent without it. Nacho were large, but despite my plans to only each half take the rest home I ended up eating 3/4 and left the last 1/4, cause lets face it nachos aren't great leftovers. I thought they had a good balance of cheese, salsa, jalapenos, and refried beans and it was hard not to find a chip without something on it. I hate when you eat the top layer and it just chips underneath these were layered nicely. The place had more of a dive bar feel to it rather than a Mexican restaurant. Well a dive bar with flat screen TVs, it would of been nice if they had the close captioning on the TVs since they had music playing.

Definitely one of my favorites. Their happy hour is amazing! Dollar tacos, yes please! Its like a little hole in the wall bar with amazing food. All the locals know it and sometimes its hard to get a table. I suggest going during the week because a friday night, forget about it!

  • Chris M.

Love love love this place! My friends and I go here probably once a week. The happy hour specials are great (half price margaritas and nachos) and the food is always fantastic! My usual go to is a burrito, but I recently tried the enchiladas, and I have to say my usual might be changing! The tacos are great too (especially if you catch them on dollar taco night) I could eat the chorizo and potato tacos until I explode. The draft list is pretty reasonable too, and they have a nice selection of bottles. The recent expansion of the dining area, and the additional of take out bottles really solidifies Loco Pez as a place I recommend to everyone who hasn't been there before!

Awesome place! It can get VERY crowded and I don't like that it only opens at 5. The take out counter in the back (accessible through side door) is convenient. I like all the bartenders and wait staff. The nachos are great, and are big enough to share, yet good enough to eat by yourself. The tacos are really small, which is good because they are cheap and you can build yourself a mix of like, four different tacos, instead of having to get all the same like at other places. This place is good to eat little by little. Instead of committing to a big entree, it's cool that you can order a drink, maybe some tacos, and then drink and get even more tacos as the dinner goes on. I've only had mixed drinks, not beer, and the Fairlane is good. It uses guava juice, and was recommended to me and I've gotten it repeatedly. This place is cash only, so make sure to keep that in mind. ATM on site is convenient if you need it!

Loco Pez makes some of the best nachos I've ever had. Also, really great Margaritas. Visit this place during happy hour and you can get both of those items for $4 each. The tacos were okay. Not awesome. Maybe I was spoiled with great Mexican food living in Arizona for 6 years. I've tried the Pez, al pastor, and carne asada. Next time I'll try different tacos. Still, the chefs here should win the Nobel Prizes for nachos. Follow Loco Pez on Twitter to find out when their $1 taco day is that week.

Two words... DOLLAR TACOS!!! This place is always busy the times I've gone but the service is quick and people are in and out! It can definitely get a little close for comfort though. Great food and fun environment!

Stopped by here on a random Thursday night, we moved into the area a little over a month ago and have been meaning to check this place out. It definitely lives up to the hype food wise. The HH specials are pretty good and I would recommend that you go in around then so that you can take advantage of them. Basically they do deals on nachos, drafts, and margaritas, not too shabby. We started off with the guacamole which was actually a good size portion for 2 people and the chips were sturdy enough to be dragged through it. Everything was extremely fresh and it made a difference. For dinner we did a few chicken tacos, a shrimp taco, and a fish burrito. The tortillas here are legit and they hold up while you are eating the tacos/burritos which is really important in my opinion. Everything was great, no complaints at all. The service was good and our service was very friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for some really good cheap Mexican. 2 of us tried our hardest left stuff with a bill around $40.

I love Loco Pez! This was one of the first restaurants I went to in Philadelphia when I first moved here, and although I no longer live in the area, I keep coming back! What first attracted me to it was $2 taco days, and they are moist and delicious. Although small, the tacos are full of flavor that make me come back on any other day and make me shell out the extra $0.40. You can always add some sauce to them too, as Loco Pez gives you a bucket chock full of sauces, some with flavor and some with spice. My other favorite menu item are the nachos de kenzo. One layer of nachos, a layer of three varieties of meat, sour cream, guac, and pico. Throw on a variety of sauces Loco Pez hands to you, and you've got yourself a meal for two! I barely order nachos from anywhere else because I feel like I will be disappointed, but these nachos are so loaded I know I won't be left unfulfilled. The one knock I would have on Loco Pez previously would have been the size. In the past, it was a little hole in the wall with a bar and about eight tables, so on busy nights, or even lunch time, it would be a long wait for just two people. Recently, Loco Pez expanded with another room, so there is plenty of room to enjoy some beer, great music, and delectable cuisine!

Crowded and noisy, not really a great place to relax and have a conversation. But it's busy because the food is GOOD. Remember it's CASH ONLY, get the nachos to share while you're waiting for your tacos.

  • Pierre T.

One of the best perks about just signing a new lease in fishtown, is that loco Pez is a 30 second walk away...everything I've had so far has been nothing short of exceptional..if this place wasn't cash only I would probably eat here everyday..cheap and strong margaritas!!!! Also try the el dorado drink if you like spicy...Minus 1 star for atm being broken at a cash only place, ran around for 20 minutes drunk trying to find one..

this rating is mainly for the food. I had the nachos, mushroom taco, conchinita pibil taco, and the pez taco. I layed on a bit of each hot sauce to try. I also had some of my boyfriend's conchinita pibil burrito and I have to say I was not blown away by any of the food. People kept saying how great it was here but I found it mediocre when compared to other taquerias just a few minutes away. it's a shame I really wanted to love this place since I live in the neighborhood but most of the food seemed bland and really nothing special. I will say it's not a bad place to gather with friends. the drinks and service were good so overall I'll give it 3 stars. if I'm in the mood for tacos again, I probably wouldn't come back.

Oh Loco Pez a Mexican staple for fishtown. Do not come here on $1 taco night you stand to wait atleast an hour minimum. Aside from the crazy compact days on dollar taco frenzy this place is a solid decision for food and drinks. The nachos are an absolute favorite for me, they just have mastered the perfect ratio for every topping to ensure you get a bit of everything with every tortilla. The beef is seasoned perfectly, cheese melted to a gooey perfection and diced veggies juicy and crisp. If you actually looked around the bar while pondering about what to order you would see an order of nachos on every surface top; hinting that you should try some too. Tacos are small but pack a punch and drinks are well blended and above average. Although the place is small if you're willing to wait (which you should be used to waiting if you live in the city) this place lives up to the hype, is satisfying and easy on your pocket.

Our go-to Mexican joint. Tacos al pastor, chicken quesadillas, and the pink Cadillac martini are my favs! Usually find street parking easily. Bartenders are a little moody but everyone else is awesome and super nice, especially the guy who works the little take out bar!

    (5)
  • Laur A.

Love affair. I'm in love with this place. It's no frills with the food, but it's one of the best mexican joints in the city. The cocktails are top notch. The al pastor tacos are dreamy. 5 stars across the board.

I came here with my fiance, Paul V. on a Thursday night. We came in for some margaritas and happy hour specials. We had 2 margaritas each and they were delicious! We also tried the Pez and Pollo tacos. They were okay, but the nachos on happy hour for only $4 were absolutely AMAZING!! I couldn't get over how good the nachos and margaritas were! The service was great as well. The bartender, Ruben, was very friendly and on top of drinks and keeping our bar area clean. Great job Ruben! Overall, I would recommend to come here, especially for the margaritas and nachos. I haven't tried much else, but let me know how it is!

Ok so I reviewed this place a month or so ago and I need to update my review. The first one I did, I was upset because they couldn't simply remove the grain portion of my meal from my meal to make it edible for me. Yesterday, on our day off from our diet, my boyfriend and I went back (even though we vowed not to return). They did renovations recently and added an entire extra seating section which is good and was needed but moreover our waitress was AWESOME, Hillary- thanks! And the food was out of this world; as per usual. The drinks were awesome and the fact that we went during happy hour didn't suck either. The service was fast and like I said- food aaaahmazing. I lived in Guadalajara for a semester and was able to experience true Mexican cuisine and even this tasted better. The margaritas were amazing and if you like guava, try the martini that has the guava in it (shoot can't remember the name). I had chicken enchiladas (i know it's a gringo choice but their slight mole enchilada sauce or whatever it is is out of this world) and my boyfriend had tacos: my fav was al pastor but he enjoys them all! I recently went to Fairmounts La Calaca Feliz and although their decor was awesome and whatnot, the food came nowhere close. I need to take back my shotty review and swallow my pride and apologize. This place is amazing!

Living in Bella Vista I have a plethora of Mexican joints to choose from, and they are as authentic as you can get. There's a taco truck a block from a restaurant, that's a block away from another taco truck, that's around the corner from another Mexican restaurant. You can see why having a favorite Mexican restaurant can be a little difficult in my area. But hands down: Loco Pez takes the prize on my favorite tacos in the city. I'll even take the drive on I-95 for these bad boys that are filled to the brim. Driving on I-95 for food when I live in South Philly? Unheard of. Except for these flavorful tacos. What separates Loco Pez from the others, other than the true divey, hipster vibe and location, is the flavor that is soaked into the meats, rather than chunks of tough meats sitting atop a tortilla. I can't speak for any of the vegetarian dishes yet. The tortillas are smaller, but they are filled to the edge, so you're getting more protein than carbs, which I prefer. I am usually full off of three tacos elsewhere, but I think I could easily go for four-five here. It is CASH ONLY!

  • Leon J.

Was there for happy hour and had a nice time. The bartender Lauren is super hot and nice, so that's a star, but for the most part was a real group or couple vibe. Not really what i was looking got since i was looking to meet new people. Would stop in if I'm in the area and on $1 taco night.

    (4)
  • Maura T.

Loco Pez was solid. I went there for a solo brunch on a Saturday and found the AC cranking (awesome), the bartender squawking (bearable, sort of charming I guess), and the food good. Huevos rancheros was $11, and while I didn't have a drink the Bloody Mary's next to me looked delicious and were $2 off, making them only $5 each. I had heard rave reviews and to be honest, was happy but not blown away by the food itself. I think the whole package is what you come for -- well priced drinks, solid food, nice decor, fun atmosphere -- NOT authentic, unbeatable Mexican cuisine. And I'm okay with that. I'll be back.

updating my review since i've gone and tried nachos elsewhere in the world and the results are in: the best nachos are here. if i have to move more than 10 blocks away from here i might as well move across the country.

We were lucky enough to end up here on $1 taco night and happy hour to boot with half price nacho's and margaritas! Nacho's were good, not the best but good. Taco's were great and I love that you order one at time so you can get different one's!

Loco Pez is a pretty cool vibe, a little hipster for me, but hey, I live in Fishtown. This food is really good and staff is friendly. A downfall is that it get really crowded, but only on Friday night and weekends usually.

  • Brian L.

It's always crowded here, but the tacos are freakin fantastic! Sorry that I didn't come by here sooner, but the tacos are always delicious and always come out in a timely manner. Yummylicious! Running into old friends. Nice servers as well. I'd give it five stars, but it is in Philadelphia. Sorry.

I went for their Sunday happy hour (which is a great idea), and got food and drinks. For drinks, the Bloody Mary is the way to go. It's super spicy and thick, pretty much like drinking spiked salsa. The margerita is also good, very strong. We got nachos to share for the table (4 people), and we finished every last chip. We each got two tacos for the main course, which was plenty after the nachos. I recommend the cochinitas pibil taco. The wait for our meal was pretty long, but the waitresses were really nice about it. Definitely going back soon.

Hipster taco bar is what I here on reviews. I live blocks away so I have o go. But here's the thing; Loco Pez isn't like that; Personally I can ignore pretentious people and enjoy the food. Great nachos.... Love that I can taste a little of each in taco form before ordered as burritos, empanadas or quesadillas, too. And before I forget good margaritas.

    (5)
  • Jared L.

There is zero this establishment does wrong. Simply put, Loco Pez is perfection in food and drink (and atmosphere to boot). Whether with a group, or all by your lonesome, you will definitely leave with a few more friends. Hanging at this place becomes an addiction. You'll always have a great time. Please though, ask Franny about the Gordo Board, it's her favorite thing to discuss.

Great Mexican food at this hole-in-the-wall spot in Fishtown. Get there! Get a margarita! Get some food!

    (4)
  • Joseph K.

wait staff was super understanding over an issue we were having at the table. they held our table while we left to get something and even brought food out to the table, believing that we would truly return. good service and good food. i am definitely a fan. food also comes out so fast that if your uber driver tells you they're almost there, that means you have time for one more round of tacos/drinks. service 10/10 food 10/10 price 10/10 frank (our uber driver) 10/10

    (5)
  • Robert B.

Great local taco spot with the added bonus of a bar. The soy chorizo will make you forget you ever liked eating dead animals, and sampling some of the tequila will make you forget everything else. The "gordo board" is at best problematic, which merits the missing star, but the nachos alone would be a 5. Get there early, it's usually crowded, but the bartenders and servers are excellent and genuine.

Went here two times in the past week. Great bar! Great beers on tap, and fabulous margaritas (a little boozy, but I'm not complaining). Had the Nachos De Kenzo with a group of friends which is the only way to enjoy it. It's a landfill of nachos and meats and cheeses. Tacos are delicious as well. I've only eaten the chicken which was fantastic but I hear the shrimp ones are the best. Both times so far, I've eaten the burger which might be one of the best burgers I've ever eaten at a bar. Their secret sauce and jalapeño peppers make the already delicious buttery burger even better. Definitely a place I plan to go often, especially during their dollar taco nights

Loco Pez is a great spot. I live around the corner from it but I don't frequent it as much as I would like to. To be honest, I've only been here about 3 times. Sadly my bf doesn't have an affinity for tacos like I do! Both times I've been here the service has been great. I've only been able to grab a table here once. That's the only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars. It's always so insanely busy sometimes that 1. you cant have a conversation with anyone unless they're screaming in your ear and 2. people tend to sit at the tables for a long long time. Other than that, the food is amazing. I've had a lot of things off of the menu. but my favorite of all time was their scallop taco. I don't really like seafood, but this taco was like made by God. It was so good that I wanted to smother myself in them and die. I've also tried their margaritas which are pretty on point too. Service at the bar is great, Ruben was my server the very first time I went there about a year ago and he was so nice! My boyfriend and I mentioned to him that we were looking for a place around Fishtown and he kindly offered to get in contact with his friend who did real estate. Awesome awesome guy. I'm not sure if he works at Loco Pez anymore since I haven't been there in quite a long time. But this place is great if you can grab a seat!

Loved the nachos at this place. I have no idea how they make them so good each time but they do. Its so good. They have good drinks and the ambiemce is nice small place but its got a great vibe. Only downside is that its a cash only business.

  • Gina V.

Me gusta Loco Pez! I went for brunch with two friends, and we sat at the bar. The nachos were delicious - piled high, tons of meat, excellent guacamole, and the chips by themselves were also very tasty which contributed to the superior quality of the nachos. The chicken and waffles were a special that day, and they were also amazing. The gravy was just a bit spicy, and I didn't expect it to be good on the waffles, but it really was. It was more food than I could eat, and I was starving when I sat down. They also have Mexican soda (which uses real sugar instead of the fake stuff), adding to the authenticity and the flavor of the place. The staff was friendly and very attentive, even though they were pretty busy. They didn't make us feel rushed, and were very kind about the mess we made with the nachos, despite our best efforts to keep it tidy. The women's room is very cool - so cool I feel it is worth noting right here. It is wallpapered in Spanish-language comics, making it a neat place for a selfie that doesn't look like it was taken in a bathroom, if you're into that kind of thing (which I am, because my iPhone has made me a narcissist). *Note: Cash only! They have an ATM in the back if you forget.

Not going to lie, I had my reservations walking in. This place looks like an old neighborhood dive. Not much says "mexican" when you first arrive. But man, great tacos, burritos and do yourself a favor and try the street dog. Solid tequila list and a friendly staff round out a great spot to try for dinner.

Does it get cooler than a hipster Mexican restaurant with quality food and inexpensive drinks? No it doesn't. Awesome energy in this place. The food is excellent. We split guacamole which was delicious. I couldn't get enough of the chicken tacos with cilantro. I had 5. Could have doubled that. Just an awesome restaurant oozing with character.

Good food, poor service. Unless you're white. Now, I'm usually not a racist, as I am African American, and I grew up in a Jewish neighborhood. Anyway, I came here twice, and I usually enjoy the food, but it seems like the people that work here only cater to a certain crowd and usually waiting for the the end of the night. The bartenders are barely present and the crowd seems that of the hipster "we have our own club and you're not invited" mentality. I wish it were more friendly but what can you expect? It's Fishtown (not your town). So if you want good tacos and great service with cool people, go to Honest Toms and stay away from the pretentiousness of this place. Loco indeed.

This place doesn't look like anything special, but I was pleasantly surprised. Parking is pretty easy, and the wait wasn't as bad as I was told it would be. My friends and I went for happy hour and dinner on a Friday. The drink specials were great, and the tacos are always affordable. I got all three of the vegetarian tacos, and I liked them all! The guac is great, too. Our bill was pretty low, service was great. The menu has something for everyone. I can't wait to come back for brunch.

If you like authentic Mexican and great margaritas am check this place out. When you walk unit deals like you taken a time machine to your friends parents basement in the 70s. Great bartenders, decor, and the silver dollar tacos are amazing. A+ for loco pez I will come here for as long as I live infishtown.

Visited this place about two weeks ago with my girlfriend. Really liked just about everything. Started with chicken nachos, loved it. Then ordered three tacos, one shrimp, one chicken and one pork. The tacos are tiny but delicious. Well balanced flavors, authentic corn tortillas. The tortilla was a little small for the size of th shrimp in the shrimp taco. But that's my only complaint. My girlfriend liked her margarita. Will be back.

  • Kurt I.

The $1.75 mini tacos are amazing. Three spinach/mushroom and three soyrizo - followed by some shots of tequila, please and thank you. The wait can sometimes be long, that is purely because this place should be 3x the size, but it is def worth the wait.

Where do I begin? Easily my favorite restaurant in fishtown. Every time I have guests over to visit without a doubt I come here to wow them with all of the delicious food options. Come here for happy hour and grab an order of 4 dollar nachos that pair perfectly with their house made sauces. OR for an even better combination get here for happy hour on a dollar taco night for a great meal. If you do come on dollar taco night be prepared to wait. Can't say a bad thing about anything on the menu. Drink menu included. So thankful to have this place in walking distance from my house.

Came here on a Saturday around 6:30pm. Meh. Full points for decor, choose-your-own taco assortments, and beer list. But we were rather underwhelmed. I was surprised that both the fish and shrimp tacos were fried... and not even "Yum, tasty! This is SO worth eating fried food!" kind of fried. But just a bland batter. $7.50 for a tiny bowl of guacamole (that I highly suspect was cut with yogurt or cream) was pretty steep. Otherwise prices were fair. Worst part: SERVICE. Our server barely checked on us; we had to flag her down whenever we wanted anything. And it didn't seem that busy, either. I probably would have gotten a couple drinks over the course of the meal, but with the lack of attention I ended up just sucking on leftover ice from one cocktail the whole time. The tacos themselves. Okay. Nothing to rave about. Meats were a little dry. Nothing special about the toppings. I could make better at home.

This puzzlingly-named tequila bar / taqueria does not actually serve fish, despite having fish in its name and a picture of a fish on the sign outside. However, it did serve me a very excellent lunch of bell peppers, fried eggs, carne asada, potatoes, and hollandaise sauce brought to the table in a sizzling-hot iron skillet. Three different salsas were provided in squeeze bottles, but the skillet thing was good enough that I didn't want any salsa. The coffee is La Colombe, but unfortunately is served out of plastic jugs and is not hot. I would go back anyway. Total cost for lunch and coffee was $13.00. Addendum 2014-07-03: I tried to go back for dinner, got there around 6:30 on a Wednesday, and couldn't get a seat. The hostess wouldn't give me a table, so I stood around for a while hoping a seat at the bar would open up, but none did. I had to eat dinner somewhere else. It's a shame, because that means I probably won't be able to go back. It's too far to make a special trip only to find that it's full up. It occurs to me that the puzzling name is a reference to Fishtown.

After weeks of bridesmaid dieting, the day after my friend's wedding all I wanted was margaritas and nachos. Loco Pez was the perfect setting for this indulgent affair. The bar is bright and fun. The holographic Jesus picture and various random decorations are great. Margaritas are solid and the nachos are huge and loaded with toppings. Apparently the happy hour is pretty sweet so we'll definitely return for that. Be sure to bring cash or your debit card to hit the ATM!

I've been to Loco Pez a few times and the service has always been fine. But I really don't understand what the hype is about for their food. Everything I've had is mediocre. They're not bad, but not great. Also, the tacos are so small and sad. And they're unmemorable. My husband loves their Nachos De Kenzo, but I don't know what's so amazing about them. I'd rather go to an authentic Mexican restaurant than to come to a crowded hipster bar with over-priced, over-hyped food, IMHO.

Was in the mood for a late dinner and searched for a taco joint that was open late. Loco pez came up on my search and my companion had heard good things. I had noticed it trending on 4 square recently so I decided to give it a try. We hopped in the car and headed to fishtown. Living in Logan Square , we find trips to northern liberties to be adventurous and full of hipsters .... Fishtown is the new northern libs. I definitely wanted to turn the car around and put on more tatoos , nose rings, and squeeze into my skinny shorts, but I found a great parking spot right outside and slipped into this corner bar. We sat right away and the waitress who was pleasant and full of alternative piercings alerted us that tonight was dollar taco night , and any taco would only be $1. Of course I ask , how much are the shrimp : $1 , and the fish : $1 , the carnitas: $1. Overwhelmed with the excitement of a bargain I ordered one of each and sides of chips of salsa, green rice , black beans. To wash it all down: a michelada. My friend ordered 4 tacos : chicken , fish , pork , and steak plus a margarita. Drinks came out fast and were great. Food arrived 5 minutes later and each taco was more delicious than the one before. Salsas were great but not needed for the tacos and rice was banging. The check came and the whole bill was $30 !! I couldn't believe it. I asked the waitress when dollar taco night was and she told me you have to follow on Facebook to find out because it changes. I friended loco pez right there and can't wait to come back.

I couldn't care less that this isn't "authentic" Mexican food. I do care that it's super delicious. I've been there a few times recently and I find myself craving their soy chorizo and nachos pretty often. Soy chorizo does not exist in traditional Mexican food, but it's amazing! Their nachos are also everything I want in nachos, but most places don't have. They are crispy and layered throughout with toppings. It might be too much for one person to eat alone, so it's better to share. Seats can be difficult to get at times, but if you go on an off night, or maybe a bit later you can get a spot. The service is surprisingly good and the prices are affordable. Whenever I go, they have cool music playing - usually either old school hip hop, the XX, Radiohead, or something else I like. Bonus points for the she-male trannie drawing on the bathroom wall.

WARNING: the Margaritas are AWESOME! I was a little bummed when receiving my tacos, tiny little three biters but the flavors were good. My husband got an enchilada and it was VERY good! Just a note, if you are hungry go for the burrito or enchilada or order 4+tacos.. I will return for the Margaritas and the NACHOS!! :)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
