Giving this 3 stars because the waitress was friendly and attentive. The place is beautiful on the inside - lots of great details. It's big too. We were there late on a Saturday afternoon and there wasn't a crowd at all. Sat in the back in a booth. Drinks were delicious - we had the butterscotch something or other. Yum! And some hard cider. This is what we ordered: Beef stew = Dinty Moore can stew - exactly what it smelled like - and what it tasted like. The menu said it came with bread but we had to ask and some dinky soft roll was brought out. Crab Cake and chips = the worst I have ever tasted. I'm sure it's my fault for not understanding that a "deviled" crab cake actually has a dusting of crab flavor and no actual crab - the only flavor this had was the red pepper which was in the mush of it all. Wasn't even served with lemon - that could have helped to make it more edible. Buffalo Chicken Thumbs = really good! Super hot - like it made our foreheads bead up sweat hot. There are so many places in Philly to get good pub food - IMO this isn't the place. But I'm sure with the right crowd - on the right night - if you get drunk just enough the food isn't that bad.

Rude host - not even worth going into at this point. Slow service. Had their food at their other location, which is fair, but skipped here. Basically, a college joint with cheap eats.

This place is huge so a big plus is that it never quite feels crowded. It's not the nicest/cleanest bar but it's not pretentious and the bartenders are nice enough. I wouldn't recommend coming here for food but rather if you need a place to start or end the night. Their pitchers of beer are cheap and they took good care of our large party (12 people) last time we were here. In summary, this would not be a destination spot for me nor a happy hour spot. I probably won't be back anytime soon...

  • Dan D.

Not what I was expecting. This has a mix of good looking younger people (26-36). It looks to get bro tastic later on, but when I was there it was fairly good (7pm). The bartenders were awesome, just look out for the barback swiping your drink away. I will try it again, when tria is packed

This place is fun.. like everyone said cheap beer and good music and hot bartenders. It's spacious and at night the tables are usually empty for big groups to hang. Most people are around the circular bar in the middle. The bar itself is hugee hence why there aren't a lot of people but it seems crowded..just a note if they try to renovate in the future :] The crowd is your usual Rittenhouse 20 somethings crowd.

We've gone here a couple of times for center city sips. The inside is beautiful, the wait staff was friendly and attentive but not overbearing, and we liked the appetizers a lot. They gave a lot of choices for just $5 - highlights were the wings and the southwestern egg rolls. The beers were good prices (obviously it was sips). I just wish their happy hour was always like this!

Went on July 4, sat at the bar, had an awesome time. It's called the Irish pub. That's what it's gonna be. The music was a mix of top 40's and country. Bartenders super attentive and fun.

I was in town with a few friends for Made in America and we were desperately searching for a brunch spot. The place we originally went to was packed, so we walked around and stumbled across Irish Pub. Glad we did! First, we ordered a round of Bloody Marys (I got a spicy one) and it was really good. Probably one of the better ones I've had. For lunch, I got a buffalo chicken cheesesteak and it hit the spot. So good. Could go for another one right about now... Great atmosphere for a bar. Plus, our waitress was really nice too.

Irish Pub was a decent spot to hang in for a beer before dinner. We were a group of 9, so we grabbed a corner and hung at the bar. They had a nice beer selection, with Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA on tap which was awesome. Not too crowded but we were there around 5pm Saturday - I'd assume it gets significantly busier as the night goes on. Nice waitstaff, easy bar access. Nothing special, but a solid spot for a quick beer.

I've been way more than I really should, mostly for drinks with large groups. This is a great place for group 'mixers' where people can stand, talk and drink. It's possible to book out the main bar area, the back bar area as well as the downstairs area. Drinks are standard and food is bar food, though they do have an extended menu. Try the chicken thumbs with honey mustard (there's a buffalo version of this as well). Buffalo wings, nachos, and cheese fries are also not bad. They also have salad!

I think i like coming here more than I used to. They even sent me a complimentary $10 gift card for entering the Tour De Shore charity bike ride. The Chicken Thumbs are still my favorite bar food in Philadelphia and the bar tenders are accommodating, fast and friendly. I enjoy my $2.50 Yuenglings and whatever cheap beer specials they are putting out that night.

In from out of town , it was A-OK, I would go back for a drink, but it wouldnt be my first pick. Simple and the food is good, but maybe too simple, they need to spice it up somehow. Again, maybe the bar was better, we had a side room event so maybe I got a jaded view. I would try again. I loved the food and beer. hmmmm...

Its a nice "local place". Smells like an irish dive bar. Had the chicken thumbs. They tasted awfully like chicken fingers...oh wait, they're the same thing.

Good for what it is: a homedown Irish pub. While wandering around for something to eat around 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon, we were attracted to this place because of a sandwich board boasting decently priced good food and open windows overlooking Walnut Street. We snagged a seat by those open windows and took in the warm sunshine and temperatures. We went basic: I got a bowl of white chicken chili and the beau got a chicken parm sandwich with fries. The chili was tasty though a tad watery, but the melted cheese on top and decorations of multi-colored tortilla chips was a nice touch. The sandwich was actually quite tasty, with a delicious marinara sauce and a juicy chicken cutlet, and the fries were perfectly crunchy. We didn't drink, but there seemed to be a large and wide-spanning selection of beers, et al. Nice little place!

Decent pub with the standard drinks and a patio for outdoor seating in Rittenhouse right across the street from the Wanamaker building. The venue is spacious enough for larger groups which is a plus. Overall it is solid but not outstanding.

One of the worst meals I have ever had. Grilled chicken sandwich was disgusting and reminiscent of middle school cafeteria food just much more expensive. Honey mustard sauce was horrible. Not sure how you can screw up honey mustard but they sure succeeded. Wife got the buffalo chicken thumbs took one bite and couldn't continue. The draft selection was solid which is the only reason they are getting any stars. We left without being asked how our meal was and went next door to Tria Taproom to have a meal. Avoid this place at all costs!

  • CJ H.

It's a pub for heck sake, what were you all expecting? Loved it! Was within walking distance of my hotel at the square. It wasn't too busy. Had some draft beers I had never tried which were great! I ordered the fresh Cod Wrap which was really good with two sides. Three beers and dinner for $25 works for me! I will go back next time I am there

Been here twice. Pretty good food surprisingly. I tried the pub burger. The beer was fairly priced. Didn't like then flying fish beer that much though. The place was pretty packed when I went on a Thursday night. I would definitely go again.

  • Nazee Z.

Honestly, I didn't do a lot of drinking here as I was already stuffed full of beer but I had a blast! I has a yeungling draft for $3.50, which I enjoyed from the start. But most of all I liked the atmosphere. Music was loud enough to keep you awake but wasn't so loud that you couldn't have conversation. A bunch of friends and I were in a little nook area in the back too which is super convenient cause we could put our coats on the ground and not worry about them. Good place though! Great location too

A chill place for drinks during the work week. During the weekend, it can be very crazy and very packed. The food here is nothing special, just your regular bar food selections. They have a good selection of beers on tap and in bottles. Fairly large seating area with a large sized bar. During the warmer weather, they open the windows which is nice. Bathrooms are located downstairs where there is another room with a full bar.

Well don't go here if you are expecting an Irish pub that serves Irish good. Spring rolls, meatball and sausage grinders and standard bar food are the basis of the menu. Interesting seasonal drinks .... Cucumber cooler (gin, muddled cukes, simple syrup , line & club soda) & honey lemonade (JD honey & lemonade ) were tasty but weak. The boys went for bar food. Vegetable spring rolls were obviously frozen fried products served with sticky sweet jarred duck sauce. When soy sauce was requested none was available. Spicy chicken thumbs were grease laden logs of breadcrumb fried chicken. Steak fries although obviously not homemade were edible but when asked to accommodate " loading" them like an appetites item the request was denied. The beef pannini ..... Or at least that is what it was called was really a grilled wrap folded in half with onions and horseradish . Edible according to the eater. Given the lack of authenticity I stuck with a garden salad but when I order low fat Italian dressing I do not expect creamy Italian. Luckily it was on the side so I at least eat a dry salad. But fear not when I think I can not be further disappointed they hit my pet peeve . Under the brightly colored romaine and the bagged shredded carrots what brown lettuce. I will not serve that at home never mind expect it in a restaurant. I never blame a server for poor food to management's lack of accommodation of diners but when she tried to take away our only half finished drinks I had had enough. Do I need to draw a conclusion?

Really good if you order the right food: Cheesesteak egg rolls are incredible, and REGULAR chicken thumbs are great. Stay away from the buffalo.

  • Elaine M.

I don't really have much good to say about Irish Pub except they have an ok micro-brew section on tap. The food is terrible, the crowd is either a mixture of 21 year olds, drunk happy houring young professionals or super sports fans there to watch a game. The service can be slow and unaccommodating.

  • Kathleen K.

Oh Irish Pub. Disclaimer - this review is probably a bit biased because I spent a lot of time here as a young wide eyed intern when I first moved to philly. When I was a much younger woman (5-6 years ago), we would come here a couple times a week. I was from a college town in Michigan and shocked at the price of going out for drinks in Philly. Here at Irish Pub there were always $2 beer specials(At least that's how I remembered it) I'm pretty sure the price may have gone up to $2.50, but seriously, that's super cheap. I've never had the food here (at least not that I remember?) so I can't vouch for that. Either way, you're not getting a super classy bar here. It's bound to be packed and loud and probably full of drunk people. But if you're looking for a place to throw back a few cheap beers, look no further.

  • Alexis A.

Ummm..this place was interesting. Would I go back? Maybe, but not on a weekend. I went with a group of girlfriends on a friday night and it was ok. It wouldnt be my first choice. It has a very "bro" college feel. The place is crazy loud and super crowded. The people were a bit obnoxious and it seemed like it was big for the "afterwork" crowd. At this point in my life..aka being 30, its not my scene. No shittier than any other pubs, nothing to write home about. I didnt have the food, so nothing to say about the cuisine

    (2)
  • Drew M.

On a time crunch and the server brought the check to sign right away. This hot roast beef sandwich is great comfort food on a cool autumn day!

  • Rob H.

You have to know to go to Irish pub at the right time. It has a college feel to it Thursday Friday Saturday nights but can be cool for an earlier side midweek date spot or after work hangout. I've gone there a few times for after PSSC games drinks, which it is perfect for, usually there is a special on a domestic draft or one of their cocktails (although I've never had much success with them). People that complain about Irish pub being too loud or too much of a bro bar are simply going at the wrong time, and hey, sometimes that can be just what you are looking for. Don't expect much from the food, it is fine for bar food but nothing to write home about, serves a purpose but I wouldn't go here with the sole purpose of eating. I usually just grab a sandwich and fries.

  • Shobitha S.

The Shepherd's Pie was delicious! There wasn't anyone to greet me at the door and walk me to the restaurant portion of the pub. However service was quick and the waitresses are so nice!

  • Amy N.

This is the place you wind up at the end of the night when you're looking to keep drinking while out & about in this part of town and don't have the cash to fork out anywhere else... The music in here is too loud, and pretty awful -- and the waitress not only first forgot to get me a water with my beer, but then screwed up one of my friends drinks. It's the little things... add in the limited beer selection (you're an Irish bar!!) and I'd prefer to drunkenly stagger elsewhere in this neck of the woods, for sure!

I have been to the Irish Pub in Rittenhouse Square a few times and it's been a decent time. Beers are average in price with nothing really special in their selection. There is a good amount of space in there. When you walk in the main bar is right there and in the center of the room. The bar is square and takes up a good amount of the room so it can get pretty tight in there. However, the Irish Pub does have many other rooms besides the main one. There is a bar downstairs as well as a lot of seating area in the back. The main room can get crowded but the rest of the bar will usually have some open space. It can get a little college oriented at times and the crowd is hit or miss.

  • Kelly C.

Was here for the first time on St.Patty's day. I didn't expect much other than a drunken crowd. It was pretty packed but I was pleasantly surprised to still get good service from the bar as well as from wait staff at a table we sat at for food. I had Mac and cheese and chicken fingers .. Better than expected and definitely hit the spot !

Went here a few days ago on a whim ( we were wandering around and decided to try it out). To sum it up in less phrase: not very Irish at all. I had been craving corned beef for awhile so when I saw the name of this place (can't really get more generic than "Irish pub") I decided to see what they had to offer. Needless to say I'm kinda disappointed. One look at the menu reveals a distinct lack of Irish food. Out of the 40 or so items on their menu, only about 10 or so were what I would call "Irish". They had the standard options like shepherd's pie and fish and chips, but that's about it. The rest of their menu consisted of items like wings, quesadilas and other typical bar food. Ambiance: Typical bar like setup, with a few shamrocks tossed in. Nothing out of the ordinary Food: I ordered the shepherd's pie while the rest of my family had the fish and chips. Neither was extraordinary but wasn't terrible either. The shepherd's pie was filled with ground beef that gave it an almost chili like taste. The fish and chips were okay as well. Nothing I would go back for. Service: Quite nice. The waiter was prompt and friendly, always coming back to double check on us. Drinks: I didn't explore the drink menu that much, but they did have strongbow on tap which is a nice touch. Overall I wouldn't come back since there are much better and more authentic options out there.

Meh sums up my feelings about Irish Pub pretty well. Probably go a few times a year for happy hour or post-party drinks. I've had lunch once or twice too. There is cheap beer and decent bar food. I think everyone knows what to expect when coming here.

Irish Pub apparently boycotts Guinness along with "a lot of other Irish Pubs" (our waiter's words) b/c Guinness has plans to open up Irish-themed restaurants in Philly. We stopped here b/c it was beautiful out and we wanted to sit outside. But after hearing the ridiculous reason for boycotting my fiance's favorite alcoholic bevvy in the entire world, we had one beer and then went to Black Sheep where they are secure enough in their Irish-hood to serve Guinness like a real Irish pub should. The waiter was attentive but I will not be returning.

I hosted a surprise 30th birthday party in the Garden Room and it was a big success. Erin Cullens, the manager I had been planning with, was very accommodating - she let me change the time of the event many times, and even let a few of my underage family members in. Everything was very smooth the actual day of the event, and my guests (nearly 40 people) had a great time. The food was replenished frequently, the drinks were cheap, and the bartender was attentive. They also let me bring in my own desserts. I would definitely host another event there.

  • Sarah F.

Oh the Irish Pub...I was too harsh on you. For a place to go out for drinks with a group of friends, no matter what night of the week it is, I find myself at the Irish Pub at least once a week. Whether it's a weekday night and I try to monopolize the jukebox with DJ Saraah's Greatest Hits or a Friday/Saturday night with a rotation of visiting DJs, the music is loud and sets a booty wigglin, drink guzzling atmosphere to forget the rest of the world outside of the pub. A good spot for celebrating but get there before the night rush if you want to have good standing room. It can get crowded pretty fast but hey, with cheap drinks and fast service what else would you expect?

    (4)
  • Jake F.

Nothng special. Bartenders are hit and miss. Best feature about the Irish Pub: A good place to go and get lubed up before you head out to a nice bar with good drinks. Period. Don't trip on the sidewalk rushing there. I would say the average customer is an adult male who hasn't quite figured out that he's not a frat boy anymore.

    (2)
  • Rebecca S.

I have never really been a fan of this bar, but for whatever reason I find myself there often enough that I can't believe I never wrote a review. A 2 star rating is the best I can offer given the crowd, the awkward bar with bottlenecked traffic flow, and the women's basement bathrooms (which actually get only 1 star, the cost of cheap beer compensates). The male bar patrons of last nights St. Patrick's day festivities ranged from the typical frat guy to the married man sans wedding band all out with the hope of buying a girl enough drinks that she'll maybe be interested in him. Let me tell you, most of the girls aren't interested in anything more than your offering of overpriced shitty draft domestic in a plastic cup. "Thank you for the drink it was very kind of you", then hurry back to the dingy basement bar to the rest of your friends. The bathrooms in the basement all sit on raised platforms, a little awkward having to climb up to the toilet, but even worse that not one stall had any toilet paper....at 9pm....on their freaking busiest night of the year. Wouldn't you think they'd be better prepared? This is a once or twice a year kind of bar, or the bar that you visit when your suburban friends visit the city thinking that this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Definitely not one of my fave watering holes for certain.

Names don't get much more descriptive than "The Irish Pub." Although, to be honest, I'm a bit more of a fan of the Bard's, next door, and that place is about as Irish-pubby as you can get. Anyway, Irish pub has a large selection of everything, even if their tap list is more along the lines of Sunday Night Football than craft beer. Don't get me wrong, I f*ckin' love Sunday Night Football. It's just the beer could really be a lot more diverse/better. As for the food at Irish Pub, it's respectable. I recommend the buffalo chicken thumbs, and pretty much anything fried. Finally, remember how I don't like lines, or waiting for things? That's the only "problem" on weekend nights here. Too many people getting things at the same time makes Vichet have to wait for his beer. And I'm childish as sh*t , so I'll throw a tantrum. Maybe start crying, too. Irish pub is a good standby if you're looking for a place to start your night off. It's also much better on weeknights. Pro-tip: there are two bars off the main bar - one opposite the restrooms downstairs, and the "cafe" area. These two bars are more chill, and lesser known, which means faster service and a chance to actually get to know who's serving you. Plus, they're Vichet recommended!

    (3)
  • Christine G.

Food was overpriced, even for happy hour and I had every one of the 4 bar tenders ask at different points try and get me something. Make up your mind on who takes which patrons and go from there.

    (3)
  • Marissa B.

The bartenders are dicks here so try to get a table if possible since the waitresses are sweethearts; completely opposite ends of the spectrums. Drink specials all week and great food as well. Enjoyed a decebt Thursday night with my boyfriend the first time around about a month ago and have kept coming back.

The location is too small for the number of people allowed in. Forgetting Fire Marshal. And because there are only two TVs you have to strain your neck to watch whatever they'll tell you to watch. They rely on a cover charge for crowd control most nights, because it has gotten to be too popular of a place that they just have to turn away late arrivals at the door. Can't figure out what the fascination is. It's been an okay place to be if there's a big Flyers or Phils game and you are able to get in. I was not keen on paying a cover then not being able to see/hear the TV for most of the night. Food is decent. $10 daily specials menu is a nice addition. Better choices elsewhere.

I just went to this spot for a lunch between jobs this afternoon and had a really miserable experience. My friend and I ordered lunch and we're doing fine till some friends joined us. Our server changed and the new server was immediately sharp with us. Twenty minutes later the two of us who came in initially attempted to pay our bill and we're told we couldn't pay until everyone who joined us at the establishment (all of whom sat at different tables) were also ready to pay. What? That doesn't make sense and the waitress was incredibly unclear about the reasoning. She then told our friend he couldn't order another drink and that he didn't meet the ten dollar card minimum. So there we were, unable to pay because everyone else wasn't done eating and our friend was unable to pay because he hadn't ordered enough food before the waitress decided our visit was over. Our waitress was rude throughout and ended the encounter in such an unpleasant way I was shocked. They weren't even busy. Myself and my pseudo-party of 8 will not return and I hope they replace the shoulder-length haired waitress who was serving the bar area today. Awful, don't go! There are much nicer places next door.

Seems like a great place to get drinks with friends but dinner was sub par. Mexican quesadilla far from delivered. No cheese, they used breaded chicken, it just didn't hit. Buffalo chicken fingers were good but nothing special. Service was eh. I will not return with all of the other options in the area.

  • Jon D.

Came here to watch the Patriots beat the Ravens in the AFC championship game. They had a huge screen up in the corner in addition to the TVs around the bar, which prevented me from getting next strain from cool. The waitress was friendly, the mixed drinks were priced as you would expect, and the burger was a typical bar burger, but it wasn't that bad. Also, my friend left her scarf here and they were very nice when calling the next day and set it aside for her. Came back for Saint Patrick's Day. I remember waiting in line outside before getting in...and that's about it. Not even the reuben or chicken fingers that my friend's told me I had ordered, so unfortunately, I cannot review those beyond saying that my friends thought it was good. Overall, Irish Pub is your typical pub. It's a big place, a good to come watch games, and kind of reminds me of some of the bars back in Boston.

The Chi-Fi A generously portioned chicken "thumb", which is a cut of boneless chicken breast, coated in bread crumbs, fried to crisp perfection, and laid on an oval porcelain plate. These glorious phallic dipping meats are paired with a side of "secret" honey mustard sauce which is most likely made by leprechauns. Combined, the chi-fi becomes a orgasm inducing pleasure vehicle. It's often served so hot that it's a tease for your mouth. Have patience; once cooled the chi-fi has the power to satisfy you both spiritually and physically.

  • Kenny T.

I've been to this place maybe 3 or 4 times prior to writing this review and I can say my experience has been different each time. I guess I start with the food. I like coming here for two reasons, the pitchers of beer and the burgers. The burgers are nicely sized and come with a side of fries and a small cup of coleslaw. Enough food to fill my appetite. I believe there is a pitcher special every night, $8 for a pitch and each night is a different beer. Nothing too special about this deal. As for the service, this has been hit or miss for me. Sometimes my friends and I can walk in and get served immediately and other times it can take up to 10 minutes. This place is usually noisy from the chatter of the crowd and the sound of the music. This is a decent place to come to with friends if you are only looking for the typical bar food and cheap beer atmosphere.

  • Nicole C.

Anyone who says the drinks and food here are expensive are out of their minds. They have happy hour specials all day everyday and their is no meal over $12 although most are around $8 and the portions are a great size. Their is always one type of beer for 2.50 and shots and mixed drinks which are certainly not weak are rarely more than $6 which is great for Philly and the Rittenhouse area. As for selection they have like 20 things on tap although hipsters might not like the fact that you actually have heard of 90% of them before. I haven't eaten anything I didn't enjoy and the reuben and baked chips are my favorite. The atmosphere is the best part of this bar. When the weather is nice the windows are all open and the best tables are by the windows. The staff is also extremely friendly, fun, attentive, and attractive. I suppose the bad reviews aren't really affecting this place because its true that it certainly gets crowded on weekend nights, but there is plenty of room in all different areas to meet with friends including the cafe and the downstairs bar. Sure there is a $2 cover sometimes but the price of the drinks makes up for it, and honestly I don't want to hang out with anyone that's too cheap for a $2 cover. In fact that's a good reason to have a cover, to keep these cheap ass people out. All in all a great place to enjoy a cheap drink, a game, good food, and the company of friends.

    (5)
  • Justin S.

Cheap beers, exactly the atmosphere you would expect from an irish pub. It gets very, very crowded, but you can escape to the downstairs for a little more space. Drinks are usually very reasonably priced, though it can be hard to get the bartender's attention when it is busy.

  • Mike Z.

Good Fish n Chips, ok beer selection. Had an overall good time there, fun atmosphere. The staff was very attentive during our meal during a very busy night which I really appreciated, friendly as well. Server was nice, bartenders cool, but beware the stealing busser! The busser for our table swiped the tip for our server, so she got nothing! We offered to give the server another tip, but she respectfully declined and said she would bring the issue to her management. I'm kind of shocked at the low move of that individual, stealing someone's tip and saying nothing about it. The situation was handled very professionally from our server, which I give her mad props for. I hope that other person gets fired to be honest. Will return for the food, a solid time there.

Great happy hour, huge projection screen for games, very large bar area. Little run down inside but thats part of its charm. Very friendly and attentive staff. Did not get to try the food but it looked good (standard bar/pub food).

  • Nate C.

Irish Pub is a great place to start the night. There are always cute girls working it to get free drinks from the football-look-a-like bar tenders... if I were them I'd give 'em free drinks. However I would describe the beer selection as "meh."

  • Mike W.

Unlike most people, I appreciate chains because walking in I know that although I won't get a wonderful experience, they give you what you want. Usually. So when I walk into one of Philly's many wonderful pubs of Irish descent, I expect to be able to experience one of man's greatest achievements, a frothy pint of Guinness. However, you can't at any Irish Pubs in the city. Why? I care not. I just know I can't. The food here is decent bar grub, and the servers were very nice and friendly. However, again, my main gripe is with the establishment. The beer list is pretty non-existent and yes there are nightly specials. The rotation mainly consists of BL, Coors, and Miller. If you are okay with that, then you aren't the pub for me and we can't be drinking buddies.

I love how the two star rating description says "Meh". I couldn't have put it better myself. Went here as part of an irish pub crawl on saturday. Coming from ireland I was honestly baffled when they said they don't do Guinness. I mean seriously, it beggars belief really. On the other hand they did have fairly cheap vodka and cokes ($3 I think?) but I'm not sure if that was a pub crawl special or whatever. Typical plastic paddy bar, all done up to look "oirish" but having zero personality whatsoever. Plus points for the staff though who are ridiculously cool and nice. Just a shame about the rest of the place.

Main floor is roomy but the downstairs, CLAUSTROPHOBIA! This place reminds me of a frat house. It smells like a frat house with too many men without game with too much cologne. It has the layout of frat house sort of (too many stairs and such). I'm sure guys pick up girls wearing too high stilletos by helping them up and down said stairs to get in their pants. I don't really see what's so Irish about this place. I guess I need to eat here to find out. I enjoy myself too much at Fado, so this place just doesn't do it for me.

I was a regular here from roughly 1997-2000. Who remembers the $2.50 pints of Murphy's Irish Stout? It's a big, popular, busy bar. Attracts a lot of people in their 20's and gets packed every weekend. It's a good place for tourists. I used to live and work nearby back then, so aside from drinking there frequently I would have a lot of meals here. I have fond memories of their Reuben and Chicken Thumbs (Their version of chicken fingers, but because they are so big they call them 'thumbs' instead, get it? They're actually more like cat paws.) I don't know if anything significant has changed. I'm going from memory and I have a lot of great ones from the Irish Pub. But like I said, it's a place for people in their twenties, with age one inevitably moves on. I used to try to go there maybe once or twice a year, usually for lunch and a few pints just for old time's sake. So why the two stars, you ask? I discovered, to my horror, during my last visit a few years back that they no longer serve Murphy's Stout. Irish Pub, you're truly dead to me.

Doesn't do a damned thing for me. But it is CHEAP and you can get sammies, burgers and FRIED pub grub here for a quick lunch or a beer after work. Maybe I am too snooty-snotty for this, but I am not a fan.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say I like this place. A lot of things people have said about the service, food, and crowd can be true, but I always have a good time here I'm sticking by it. It's sort of my friends' and my default bar, either at the beginning or end of the night... "Where do you want to go?" ... " Eh, let's just go to Irish." It's nothing spectacular, but they serve cold beer and decent bar food in a fun atmosphere. Spacious, good meaty chicken "thumbs", good to watch the game, happening on weekends. And Benny the bouncer we can now call a friend. Sure the $2 cover is a little rando, but cmon, it's 2 bucks... go inside and enjoy the $2 pint special.

Charging a $2 cover at the door on a Friday night drops it a star. Really? Cover at a place like this? Irish Pub is your standard watering hole. Not a club, not a lounge, just a normal bar with bar beers and bar grub. Also, I don't usually carry cash (I'm certainly not a baller, I just don't like paying those ATM fees) and thus, I try to avoid places with cover charges (plus i just really hate the concept of a cover charge) unless I'm really out to party and club and wild out. Don't get me wrong, the service is good and the bartenders are pretty attentive even if theres a lot of people there (and it does get quite packed). It's certainly not my favorite spot, but it has been, on numerous occasions, the starting point of a night out. Good place to chill out and watch a game.

The Irish Pub is the greatest. The bartenders are quick, the drinks get you drunk and all the workers are so nice. However, a lot of dumb girls like to come in and hog up all the seats at the bar. NOT COOL, time to move ladies, I want to sit. It can get pretty crowed on Friday's and Saturday's and esp. on game night!

This...place...is...the worst. I don't like rating places badly, I really don't...but something sketchy is going on with the 2 dollar cover at night here. The other irish pub doesn't charge, and it's 8 blocks away. The guy collecting money refused to tell me if he was an employee of the bar, and never has a shirt on that says "irish pub" unlike the bouncer, or bartenders. The ID checker also wouldn't tell me if the guy collecting cash was an employee. I've gone there to collect my drunk friends, a quick walk in and walk out, and still been charged a cover. The music isn't worth much, and usually the crowd attracts some pretty overly testosterone men who are looking to fight people. Not worth it...if you REALLY want some Irish Pub, just walk 9 blocks to it's bland twin...at least there the service isn't bad, and they don't charge you to enter.

Should be subtitled "what white people like." Crappy food, overly load sports-bar-ness, too damn bright, sub-par wine selection.

I've done my share of starting the night at Irish Pub, but I attempted to go here the other day for a relatively normal meal for once (instead of drinking). Ordered the cobb salad and couldn't even get through half of it. The turkey on top was lunchmeat turkey, which was wet and slimy; the hard boiled egg (usually chopped on top) was cut into 1/3 and sitting on the side, also slimy; the "bed of mixed greens" was some droopy iceberg. I would have complained to the waitress but I saw her twice, once to take the order and once to drop it off. Will never make the mistake of eating here again and will stick to drinking.

I really like coming here for a drink. I have never had the food, so I can't comment on that. But they have a good happy hour and I've never had bad service, even on a crazy Friday night. Sure, it can get crowded, and the music can be a little overwhelming. [Side note: Requested Journey once, and the DJ told me he could only play "dance music" after 1am. What?] But it's a solid bar.

  • Beca M.

It smelled like ketchup. My companions and I sat at two different tables, and no one ever came over to take our order. The place is also creepishly large.. the front bar gets packed and the one downstairs by the bathrooms does too, but the other rooms are uncomfortably vacant. I obviously can't speak to the quality of their drinks or food, but that's testament to their appalling service. As another yelper said, with so many bars in the city, why waste your time and money at this one?

More like Irish-ish Pub. I mean, how Irish can an Irish Pub be if you can't get a Guinness? Given the plethora of Irish pubs in town, this is probably the only one that requires such a name, because otherwise, you might not know what it was. It's like a frat guy wearing a bowling shirt embroidered with a random name. In this case, that name is Irish Pub. For $2 draft beers on game night, a sticky floor and soggy nachos, it's not bad. But as far as Irish pubs go, there are way too many other options within walking distance.

My stars for the Irish Pub vary, pending the time of the day. When is the best time to go: Summer/Spring Saturday and Sunday Days for lunch and a pint Game days. If you want take out beer. Day Time: 4 Stars: It's a great place for a Spring/Summer day. The front windows are opened with nice weather, people watching at its best, while having a pint, and the waitstaff are always great. Only on "off" days would I walk into the pub and sit at the bar. There is booth seating in the back, it's great for larger parties at night. There is NO sunlight in the back. The have daily dinner specials that are usually well done. (they share a kitchen/chef? with the Cafe next door) THE OFFER BEER TAKE OUT. Night Time: One Star: As beautiful as the building is with the decor, night time at The Irish Pub is a hot mess. The Main Bar: Too big for so many people to walk around. Limited high top tables to stand at because the standing space is so limited. You will be pushed. The bouncers do NOT regulate crowd control. The bartenders: Arrogant, poor service. They have little to no social engagement as you would expect from an "Irish Pub". Expect to be 2-3 people deep. waiting for your beer on a Friday and Saturday. The bathrooms: Usually hot (they are in the basement). Do not tread if you are taller than 5'10". The ceilings are low. The DJ: The ones I've seen play agreeable music, willing to take requests.

I went here at the end of an unexpectedly long day at work on a Sunday night. I came in on the tail end of the Eagles game, so there were a lot of unhappy fans. The bar was hopping and there was a gaggle of early 20-something women vamping for the bartenders, as well as some couples and assorted other bar patrons. I ended up getting the Irish Pub burger and a Winter lager. The burger was pretty good, as was the fries. The Winter lager was decent, but I liked the Hoegaarden I got next. As far as atmosphere, it seemed like more of a 20 something type crowd place. The bartenders had control of the music, and seemed to be enthralled with cranking Sublime. While I like Sublime, I also value my hearing. The bartenders were attentive however, and my beers came out fast. I forgave them their Cocktail type approach to bartending, since hey, I was in my 20's once and I'd be strutting for some hot young women if I was them. I wouldn't go back here as a first choice, but it would be a decent backup with decent bar food.

This is a place that's good once you have befriended everyone there. On the weeknights it has a good crowd of people who just want to grab a beer after work. On the weekends it gets very crowded, however there is a downstairs bar that usually isn't as crowded. Fridays & Saturdays they charge a $2 before 1am. They have 2 TV's I believe for the games, but once the playoffs begin they tend to put out a big screen projector. I've been told there is a specific reason why they don't have Guinness, and it has to do with the distributors .. or at least it used to have something to do with the distributors. Overall it's a good place to meet new people and make friends, especially on a weeknight :)

Meh, this place just didn't do it for us. Don't get me wrong, if you're looking for an Irish Pub replete with sticky floors and hardwood countertop -- well, then cheers! However, we see eye-to-eye with Karen F.; we too might be a bit snooty :D. Came in for some desserts. Got the brownie over icecream (approx. $5) and bread pudding over whiskey sauce (approx. $5). Brownie was standard fare. The bread pudding wasn't pudding but a feable attempt at a dry Cinnabon. We didn't finish a single dish. We wandered around the bar area a bit and finally opted to settle down at the restaurant side. At around 11, the double doors separating the bar from the restaurant swung open and people began to leak out. So much for a quiet Friday night -- we were out in a jiffy.

Any Irish pub that charges cover should automatically raise suspicion. I only go here because friends meet up here, and every time I go I hate myself a little bit more. The place actually has potential to be a cool pub. Great bar, seating in the back, a half-open patio. Honestly, the place is set up perfectly. The problem is the drink menu. Whoever decided that an irish pub couldn't serve Guinness and had to serve their own "house beer" is smoking some strong stuff. The lager and stout taste like cat piss. Someone told me that they recently changed the house beers to a Victory brand special brew, but I think the damage is done. It doesn't help that the place is overrun with the fresh-from-the-frat crowd. Brad's rating (out of 5): Price: 3 Drinks: 1 Decor: 3 Service: 3 Wild card: You can bypass the bouncers by going through another entrance...shhhhh

Maybe because I went here on a Thursday at 6pm I had a completely different experience than everyone else on this site. There was no cover charge, and though the bar looked busy it didn't seem like they were loud or obnoxious. The food here was delicious (okay, the loaded fries were only alright--but everything else was really good) And don't even get me started on the bread pudding! Two large delicious warm triangles covered in a whiskey sauce for only $3.50! Dinner for two with dessert and drinks came out to $45, can't go wrong. I would definitely go back for the bread pudding alone.

Irish Pub is pretty much as original as it's name. It's simply just a generic bar, with a generic menu and draft list, nothing really special about it. The layout is also strange, with the bar itself taking up 75% of the upstairs space (minus some dining space in the back I have never seen used) and you have to awkwardly push past people to walk around it. I recently discovered they had a bar downstairs too, which was shady/creepy. The main reason I hate Irish pub is that they charge a cover on Friday and Saturday nights. A cover? Really? You don't have live music, or even a DJ. The music that you do play isn't even that good. Also, the bouncers collecting said cover have a major attitude problem. Avoid.

I normally wouldn't go to a bar like this but an old friend was in town for the Army Navy game so I had to meet up with him. I got there around 12:30 and this place was beyond packed. I'm fairly certain the fire marshall wouldn't have been too thrilled. It took me 10 minutes to find my friend as I circled the bar. It was mostly due to the 3 Thousand 20 somethings falling all over each other and on top of me as I wiggled my way through the pack, but more so, it was the sticky floor trying to hold on to my shoes for dear life! I actually had to use force to lift my feet off the ground! I guess if you're drinking "domestic" beer at the Irish Pub your wallets going to be a little happier than drinking an import or local beer. Yeah - I didn't get that either. I ordered a Troegs [from Harrisburg, PA] and it came in a small glass and cost me $6. :-O So sticky floors, expensive beer and too many drunk douche bags equates a single star in my book. I will NOT be going back here.

This place is good for drinking only! Great deals on beer (2 bucks for a miller lite!) most of the week and they have tons of tv's to watch during sporting events. The food is really not so good in my opinion though. I know it's a bar and they serve "bar food" but the food is eh at best.

Whether it s Walnut/21st or Walnut/12th (curious right - that maybe they only meant to buy one but got hit by dyslexia ?) - these are awesome, straightforward, blue collar (OK - fairly white collar tinged blue at the sentiment level) pubs. Not really like the old country, but closer than too much else. The barkeeps are cool, friendly, business-like - just as you'd expect. There might be vodka in your mimosa (but if there is, and I'm not saying its a bad thing, its probably because you are the first one in a while to order a mimosa). Various beers are on the cheap at the weekends - if you're lucky you'll find a good one. If not, the others aren't really pricey). Chicken thumb platter (chicken nuggets and chips for grown ups) is awesome. Take care with the bloody Mary - sometimes they add "stout" (Guiness substitute) - thats their secret sauce. It not high-brow, but its dependable. In the end, its home.

So far have watched two Phillies-Yanks games at the Irish Pub with some buddies. Great atmosphere for big games with plenty of well positioned HD flat screens and volume turned up so you can hear the game. Also, always have $2 beer selection, which consists (on a rotating basis) of High Lifes, Rolling Rock, Miller Light, and Bud Light. Before a big game, I suggest getting there an hour early if you want to get a table in the pub area. Only food I had was the sampler, which was decent.

I have been to the Irish Pub two or three times now, but I went last night with some friends to watch the Flyers game and kick back a couple brews. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Weekends, especially during the warmer months, find this place packed, as the open front seating area is a great place to chill early in the evening, and the gigantic amount of space makes it a good place to go later in the night. The bar sports typical Irish decor-- wooden floors, seating, booths, etc. THE LAYOUT: There are actually two bars here, they are connected, the name of the one next door escapes be but I think it has a different name. These two bars connect a bit further back, the main bar of Irish Pub has a lot of (generally unused) seating in the back, and a big central bar area toward the front, with plenty of hi-def TV's and tables with stools, and then the open air seating in front of that. During the weekend, it's a good central area for groups of people, during the week or for sports games, the central area is perfect for enjoying the game or some food and drink. THE FOOD/DRINKS: Three words: Blue Moon Special. Although it's not the $1 Blue Moons I fell in love with at Hemingways back in Pittsburgh, $4 Blue Moons are as good as anything around here. They have a full bar, but at an Irish Pub, beer is likely to be the drink of choice, although the ladies we were there with had Stoli Vanilla and Soda water. The food is food, it's really nothing special, I didn't eat much as I was still full from my late lunch at Goodburger to be honest. As far as pricing, I thought the tab was lower than I would have expected, but apparently the food wasn't cheap. At least the portions aren't too skimped out. THE SERVICE: Our waitor last night was a Scottish guy named James, he kicked some serious ass...very courteous, friendly and responsive. If you get him, be sure to throw the chap a few extra bucks for tip! Weekends I can imagine service is tougher to deal with since it gets crowded. THE CROWD: I don't want to sound superficial or anything with my assessment of the attractiveness of the girls who came out-- at first the place was a total dude-fest with only a few attractive girls, same story for weekends as weekdays. Later last night, I was fortunate to meet a couple cool girls and strike up a convo, and the girls who came to meet us were drop dead gorgeous so I stopped caring. The point is, this isn't the place to go looking for a hot date or something, go with friends and enjoy their company, if you meet someone there, it's an added bonus. THE VERDICT: It looks like this place got some low reviews for various reasons, but I think for a place to catch the game, grab a few brews and wings or something with friends it's good. For weekends, there are better options within blocks, but it's not that bad. You'll have to make up your mind for yourself!

Maybe I've been spoiled lately, but I found Irish Pub just an ok place to go for lunch. The decor is a bit shabby in the day light (although maybe it looks better in the evening after a few drinks). While others I was with seemed to enjoy their Shepard's pie, which was certainly a huge portion, the turkey breast sandwich I had was nothing special, and the fries that accompanied it seemed like they were dumped straight from the freezer to the frier. While it was not an expensive place to eat, the value seemed to fit the quality of the experience. I do not see any reason for a return visit.

Good for after-work happy hours b/c it's cheap, cheap, cheap. It's mindless fun after an exhausting work week. For a few hours you revert back to freshman year of college. Food is awful unless you're drunk, at which point I suggest you head on over to Old Nelson for a hot pocket. Trust me, the food is that bad. And chicken thumbs? Thats just creepy. If you must go on the weekend, I suggest you go downstairs. Research has shown that douche bags are averse to navigating stairs so the crowd is a little better down there. Sometimes. Well, occasionally. Ok, this one time. Irish Pub is the manayunk of center city. After getting sufficiently buzzed off 2 dollar beers at happy hour with your fellow polyester blend yuppies, go elsewhere.

I can't believe I've never reviewed this place. Talk about an experience. The bar is huge, but can be a hot mess. Over time I've gotten friendly with almost all the bartenders, which greatly helps in the ability to get good drinks, and quickly. If they like you, they'll even help you with what I like to call "Creeper Duty." Having a male, the more muscular the better, on Creeper Duty is essential here. It's filled with crazy frat boys and old gross married men attempting to pick up the mostly underage girls that are hot messes off one beer. The guys have shooed us away from sitting next to certain guys, and have come to my aide when they can see I've been cornered. They honestly do always look out for us when we go, so that itself gets a star. What I want to know is who decided that in the women's bathroom they were going to place the toilets on a ledge?! Literally, you open the stall door and have to step up! This is not good in any way. If you're drunk (or like me, clumsy), the chances of you falling off this ledge are quite high, especially in heels. When you stand up, if you're even slightly tall, you can get an eyeful and give the person a stall over a heart attack - you can see straight over top and in! This was helpful the time they ran out of TP as the girl was able to easily pass me some, but still. Also, the women's bathrooms are like a maze...some stalls here, a sink there, more stalls in a corner, and mirrors in all weird places. The bartenders here have told me the men's rooms aren't like this at all, so I'm lead to believe the architect was a bitter, bitter man who wanted to see women suffer. Do you know how fun it is to have to go like a pregnant racehorse in July only to basically faceplant into the toilet bowl as you make a dash for it, because of this ledge?! Though I guess that's helpful to the 18-year-old train wrecks who need to regurgitate their last meals. Sometimes there's a $2 cover, which doesn't really bother me at all. Yeah it's silly but it's better than the $10 I paid at then-Denim to be one of two people upstairs and still not even be able to get a drink from the sole bartender (we left after 15 minutes). The bartenders are definitely flirts, which might anger some other male patrons, but they're genuinely good and funny guys, which is nice considering this place rates about an 8.8 on the Scumbag Scale (it's at a full 10 on the Wharton Bar Crawl night...I shudder when I remember...).

We went there for the Thanksgiving dinner. First off they allowed us to make a bogus reservation to the place attached to it called The Cafe and it wasn't even open on Thanksgiving. Upon arrival we were perplexed that they gave us reservations to a place that was closed, but we stayed for dinner anyways. The selection was meager and our server was very snarky, with a generally annoyed attitude. Upon paying the bill a $20 tip was clearly written on the receipt, but there was an error on our part when totaling, two numbers were switched, clearly a small mistake but the guy took advantage of this and gave himself a $50 tip when the tip was clearly written $20. Not only was he rude but dishonest.

Irish Pub, probably one of the most deceiving places in Philadelphia. It looks and sounds like so much fun from the outside, but the inside is a completely different story. First I have to tell you about why I have a vendetta against Irish Pub. I worked in Center City as an intern and the other interns and I were always searching for the cheapest lunch. We found it at Irish Pub. The Poor Richards Lunch Special always sounded good, but would sometimes come with a fly in your salad. The two dollar Rolling Rocks in the middle of the day kept us coming back though. However, one Friday night, I was talked into going to Irish Pub (even though I was just there for lunch) to meet friends. I live very close so of course I was the last one there. As I went to enter, the bouncer stopped me and carded me. Fine, I look as old as I am (which is 23). Then came something I was not expecting; He asked me to pay the cover. Which was only a few dollars, but I was not in the mood for this from a place I had been frequenting multiple times a week for free. I looked at him and asked what the drink specials were since I would be paying a cover. He said "$2 well drinks and $2 Rolling Rocks" to which I then returned "You mean the same $2 Rolling Rock I drink here for lunch?" That shut him up. My friends were already inside, so I just gave him a death stare as I shut up and paid. Haven't been back since.

I really don't know why everyone is hatin' on this place. Maybe because everyone goes on Friday and Saturday. Big mistake! As mentioned before it does get too crowded. I prefer Thursday nights as the night to go. There is usually room at the bar and the people there are just want a drink after a long day meaning they're easy to talk to and I always meet new people and make new friends. Irish Pub, or IP as I refer to it as, has a lot of regulars and the bartenders are super nice and attentive, even when the place is crowded. Yea, so they don't have Guiness, well Guiness isn't that good anyway (and I've been to the Guiness factor in Dublin). Try the loaded fries! Find me there most Thursday nights and say Hi! :)

This three star rating is actually based on the separate cafe portion of the pub (I still hate the pub portion as much as I used to). I actually found the cafe to be quite enjoyable, and it drains out the very forgettable crowd that drinks inside the pub area. They make pretty damn good fish and chips too.

This place is a safe bet. Decent food. Decent drinks. On weekends it can get pretty crowded and can be hard to find a seat anywhere. So, I usually just drink more until standing doesn't bother me as much :-)

I tried very hard to not review this place but, alas, things must be said and trust me, nothing will be sugar-coated. I should probably start off by saying that I worked for this company for exactly 4 training shifts and it's second on my list of worst jobs ever (coming in first is the video store I worked at for 1 days in Virginia. I quit after they made me re-arrange the porn room for 2 hours). I'm one of those rare servers that actually cares about how my service is so I was absolutely shocked when they told me that their NUMBER ONE PRIORITY was how quickly tables got turned over. Not how good their food was, not how to maintain regulars, but TURNOVER. That's right people, this place couldn't care less about your service. But it's ok, you won't be able to complain because I promise you that you'll see your server a maximum of 3 times during your 20-minute lunch and won't be able to recognize that person again. Secondly, their food is horrible. I was really surprised to see how many people came to this place during lunch because it's bland and expensive for the quality of food that it is. Even their cafe has shitty food, although I will say that it's infinitely better than the shit that's served in the pub. Beer is also way too expensive and their draft beer list isn't that impressive because they really only serve 2 or 3 Irish beers. Thirdly, the crowd here is horrible. It's full of 20somethings and people in their early 30s who refuse to admit that undergrad is over. Picture your least favorite memory of a frat party and this is basically it. Finally, I want give out a warning to people who want to work there: JUST DON'T. Seriously, it's horrible and you make no money. The busiest time of the day for them is lunch and the average amount you walked with is about 35-50 dollars for 3 hours of LITERALLY running through the restaurant. They refuse to hire female bartenders (which must be illegal considering it's discrimination) and won't let new employees work weekend nights for at least a month or two. Do yourself a favor and remove any thoughts of working here from your head immediately. I promise you that you'll thank me in the long run.

Until the other night, I hadn't set foot in the place since the mid-eighties. Now I remember why. The first cosmic joke is the no Guinness. I was treated to a half-full semi-pint of flat Victory. Should have made it an issue but my friend who had just moved back to town was deep into describing his screenplay treatment, so we rolled on. We ordered wings for appy and I ordered a burger. I mean, can't go wrong, right? Guess again, Seamus. The burger came out looking like a gorilla's knee cap. I ordered it with cajun spice -- hopefully the capsicum would win out over the incipient salmonella. And when they brought out the entrees, we had to ask -- where are the wings? The good-natured server was very apologetic. But ut was also clear that most of his energy was taken up apologizing. They also blew my buddy's order -- the menu said two chicken breasts, he was served one. By the time the ... I don't know what her role is -- the woman with the matching bad attitude and boob jib came to disdainfully clear our table -- the horror of the evening was complete. The only redemption of the evening was that my pal picked up the tab. I don't think I could have given these people hard-earned cash for this so-called experience. Of course it doesn't matter -- by the time I rolled home and walked past the place, it was packed with buzzing prepoids, the same way it was in 1985.

Incredibly loud and often hard to move around in. Food was pretty good as I recall, but then again, I was fairly drunk when I ate it. The bartenders were fairly responsive given how busy it was, but the alcohol selection is pretty weak in my admittedly unreasonable opinion. There is nothing really special about this place... If you wanna get drunk, you can do it here. If you want something interesting, look elsewhere.

I wouldn't even give this ONE star...it has to be the WORST bar in Philly. No wonder they are NEVER busy except on Friday and Saturday nights (OR, during sporting events...which is also pathetic). NOT TO MENTION, THEY HAVE THE WORST FOOD IN THE CITY. IT'S DISGUSTING. EVEN FORMER EMPLOYEES I KNOW FROM HERE, WOULDN'T EAT HERE WHEN THEY WERE STARVING THROUGH A 10 HOUR SHIFT!!! (Not to mention, they have a cat that lives in the kitchen to get rid of the mice or rats or whatever...this lovely tidbit was announced to me by former employees)....THEN, let's talk about the beer selection....it's pretty pathetic....and, the bartenders don't even know HOW to pour the good beers they DO have!!!! And, i think ANYONE who has encountered the DJ on Fridays and Saturdays would DIE from either laughter, or thinking they got sucked back into the WORST of 1992 (which you have to pay a COVER FOR?! LOL). I know LIVE music venues that cost a little more, but at least you can hear LIVE music! Wow...all around the WORST restaurant/bar in the city....HANDS DOWN! As for the Cafe part, the bartenders are pleasant, but the food is ALSO horrid. What is the point of this bar? Well, if you want to see college kids fight or puke on themselves, while trying to dance to the ANNOYING DJ, then by all means, please go there. If you want to go to REAL bars with REAL music and with an AWESOME crowd, try ANY other bar in Philly....from University City to South Philly....ANY OTHER bar beats this one. I still AM shocked I ever stepped foot in this place. Now, if you think I am harsh....please read ALL the other reviews on here....they might be a TAD less mean, but they all have the SAME complaints. The only thing people give them credit for is their bread pudding....which was HORRIBLE if ANY of you on here have had REAL Irish bread pudding. Please get out of Philly and just keep the one in Atlantic City opened.

Anytime I've gone into this place to get something to eat (I'm smart enough to stay the hell away during high drinking times), it's taken forever--even if it's 2 or 3 tables seated. The food's edible though if not a little overpriced.

I don't know that I could possibly hate a bar more than I hate this bar. Everything about this fake Irish bar stinks, from the mediocre food, to the terrible music, to the Budweiser-drinking crowd (except, I'm assuming, on St. Patty's Day, when the idiots that frequent this place likely purchase Guinness and Harp because it's the cool thing to do). If you enjoy top 40 hits, the fraternity/sorority crowd, and bad beer, then this is the place for you.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, and as a true man of Irish descent, let me tell you why this place isn't so "lucky." Firstly, there's a cover. A cover for what? To get my feet stepped on, and have some buster in an Izod shirt bump into me in a hurry to grab three more Long Islands? Which leads me to #2 - the crowd. Even when I don't go in, there's nothing like a romantic walk down the block and having some slob sitting in his high-chair stool in the open-window try to say something slick to me or my date. Sorry brosef, you've got egg on your face - literally. #3 - this is a Jersey magnet, as are all bars on this block. The one redeeming quality of this place has nothing to do with it at all... my right-hand-man ran into Fox sports commentator Joe Buck (who has made the Midnight Cowboy less cool) here, and told him to "Go eff yourself!"... Buck booted like Brooks & Dunn. If you're a girl trying to hook up with a Phillies utility infielder, go here... they all hang out here and get sloppy.

It's funny that Irish Pub has gotten such terrible reviews because people do love it. Who are those people you ask? Well lets put it this way... Irish Pub is the "Pub" of choice for those who frequent 32 Degrees. IP is a joke, I can't believe they charge people for just walking through their doors.

A bunch of 20-somethings looking for $2 drink specials. An Irish pub with absolutely no character.

This is a consistently average place to go when your looking for pub fare and a place to watch the game; mind you it will get packed when the Phillies/Flyers are in the playoffs...I would never go here on a friday or saturday but during the week this place is alright. The staff and owner are exceptional. However, one huge negative of this place is the beer list, no Guinness at a place that is called the irish pub is kind of a joke.

not really a fan- i only come here when one of my cheap ass friends who likes miller lite wants me to meet em here for the $2 dollar pints on Thurs. Typical younger happy hour crowd - nothing special, although according to Rocky 6 the guy from Hero's hangs out here. I would consider the food good if i had cooked it at home w/ my limited culinary skills on my 3 year old Foreman, but otherwise a definite pass unless u r shit face. oh there are 2 locations if that helps, i personally do not think it does.

i actually like this irish pub. i have many fond memories of (drunkenly) yelling at other customers for ordering 'bud light' at an irish pub. needless to say, some irishman came over to me and said, 'sweetheart, you look more american than irish'. ... oooh. burn. all in all, i love me some irish(american)men. and the irish pub is full of them. funny how that works. the stouts are great, and i personally think the bar food is decent. also a great place to hit up with your buddies for center city sips on wednesdays (5-7p)

Ok place to grab a drink if you happen to live in close walking distance and want something super convenient. Otherwise, nothing special. I particularly hate the set up of the main bar area - one giant square bar in the middle of the room, leaving tiny amounts of space on the sides in which it is impossible to stand and chat/drink in peace without someone bumping into you as they pass by. The food is unremarkable (but ok) bar food (the usual chicken wings and mozz sticks type stuff), but the brunch is actually pretty decent (and probably the only time really worth stopping by).

I don't do the after work scene, but this is a regular lunch spot since it's near the office and the service here is pretty quick and reliable. The food is OK - I normally stick to the same thing, the Chicken Thumbs, which are really chicken tenders and fries. Sometimes I get the roast beef melt which is also pretty good. My co-workers like the beer selections and I gotta tell you, they make a faily decent martini! There are times when I feel this place needs a really good top-to-bottom cleaning, as it's sometimes musty and sticky, but certainly not gross.

way too loud, too crowded, the food is mediocre, the service is worse and theres a cover?! its the tiki bobs/ finnegans experience remade for a slightly higher tax bracket

This has a great neighborhood bar atmosphere. Their beer isn't as cheap as other places, and they don't have my favorite whiskey (Johnnie-Walker Red Label), but it's got a real nice atmosphere, it's huge and there's a good amount of folks there almost every night. You can't get near the bar on a thursday, friday or saturday night...so don't even try! It's quite close to where I live, so I enjoy going there a lot.

I get forgotten in this crowded and loud place filled with popped collars, striped shirts, shiny tops, tight jeans and hair gel for everybody. Not as bad on the weekdays but still a tad of the same. They have a cheap lager which makes things a little better but the catch is I don't think it's yuengling. Sacrilege! I don't think I've had the same waitperson here before and there's a $2 cover just because they can for everybody coming into the city. In the summers they open the windows which is nice but for some reason the guys who sit there act like they want to fight whenever I look in.

pay the cover if: 1. you wanna see 'pat the bat' hit on skanks (i think he's over that now) 2. you like paying cover 3. you're under 24 4. you like shoulder bumping 5. you're totally into organized bar-hopping with buses and / or trolleys involved

a fun bar, but mediocre food. their hamburger is one of the absolute worst I've ever had - the roll was stale, the tomato and lettuce looked diseased and the meat was from a frozen patty and tasted and had the consistency of cardboard. but again, it's a fun bar. they always have $2 drafts and a good crowd - just don't get the burger...

Situation: lunch with co-workers celebrating a 50th birthday on a Tuesday. 20 people. Everything was handled very well. They seated us in a back room that accommodated all of us nicely. Half of us wanted alcoholic bevereages, half did not, so the alkies sat on one side of the room and soda-drinkers sat on the other. That way we got 2 checks: the soda-drinkers didn't have to foot the bill for the alkies. No fuss, no problem. Only draw-back to the room was that it faced the street, with floor-to-ceiling windows. Can you spell "hot house"?? Other than that, service was very prompt. I heard some rumblings that the "Chicken Thumbs" (big, fat version of Chicken Fingers) were not full cooked, but a couple of G & T's put me in that happy place where I didn't much care. I had Fish 'n Chips (satisfied my fried food craving and made me feel sanctimonious because I was, after all, eating fish); others had burgers. Someone got the bright idea to order "loaded fries" with their meal, assuming that they would substitute those for the regular fries that come on the platters. All of us thought that was a great idea as well, so we all did the same. Bad idea. They brought us the regular fries with our platter, AND all of those orders of "loaded fries". Can you spell "carbo overload"? That's one of the reasons I'm only giving 2 stars; the servers should have let us know the ordering those loaded fries was, in effect, ordering an app in addition to our meal. All in all, the lunch for 20 was a piece of cake. The birthday girl was mortified when we sang Happy Birthday loudly, and those of us who sat on the "good" side of the room are having a very happy afternoon. Reasons for only 2 stars: undercooked chicken, very hot room, the "loaded fries" order padding. Positive: comfortable seating (not crowded) in an area dedicated just to the group & fast service, especially for a party of 20.

Drinks were okay, food was okay, everything was pretty much just okay. With so many options in Philly I don't really plan on returning. They've had a few chances and have failed to impress. That being said, it's bar food and it's really not that bad and they do have a pretty good selection of beer.

This place is so bland and unexciting that writing about it makes it seem that it is more cool than it actually is. I have been twice and both times left feeling unimpressed. AND the bartender seemed a bit sketchy to me...

On a nice day this is one of my favorite places to go and enjoy a few adult beverages in the afternoon. I usually go with a few friends and sit in the outdoor area. This outdoor area is pretty small, though, so get there before crowds and maybe go with smaller groups. The food is generic pub food. There is tons of room inside. This is also a fun place to go to watch sporting events but get there early as it tends to get packed. Some of the bar tenders can be a bit short and/or rude, which is annoying but if you are in the outdoor area you have a waitress and they all tend to be pretty nice.
