I want to like this place more than I actually do. So far, I've been here probably 10 or 12 times. The food is okay, but nothing to write home about. The service is efficient, but I wouldn't call it friendly. I believe the efficiency is mostly the results of the guy who runs the register (and apparently the whole place) who is so very obviously OCD. I do think this place could be a bit more customer-centered and friendly, however. Here are my thoughts on the food: Hamburger (I've ordered this a few times) - overcooked, smashed together and not particularly tasty. Not even quite an average burger in an area where there are lots of good burger choices. IT is cheap and fast. Close proximity to my office and the willingness to take speed and convenience over quality bring me back to it occasionally. BLT - it's hard to mess this up - and it was a basic BLT - just enough bacon, the bacon not incredible, but it wasn't the tasteless cardboard other places use, either. Fries - they're frozen krinkle fries . . . I ordered them once. I won't again. Cheesesteak - ordered it for the first time today. Not bad - a little over cooked and somewhat of a burnt taste with the meat, but overall tasty. The bread was a little stale at the ends. Just average. The truck on 16th just South of Walnut is better. Considering the incredible mix of customers this place gets, I think it could make itself into something really special, or it can keep on this track and just be an average place serving average food in a very orderly fashion.

Good solid tuna salad hoagie. Hit the spot! Order it with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. You won't be sorry. Bread is pretty good. Service is ok but they have an $8 limit for cc. Pickles are yummy!

Small deli with decent prices for the city. It's simple and gets the job done. The staff is courteous. The only knock against the place is that their food is fresh, but not spectacular. Their sandwich names are pretty cool. Maybe I'm a tough critic or someone who is used to having a delicious lunch. Either way, this place is 3-4 stars. I'd go back if I was in the area and wanted to grab a sandwich.

I eat breakfast and lunch here EVERY SINGLE DAY. Classic deli, great food, great owner (andy is the man). They also do delivery which is nice if you are stuck at the office but need some chow. If you work in the rittenhouse area this should be your go-to deli. No seating though.

This is my go-to spot for a quick breakfast sandwich. They're fast, friendly, cheap and delicious! Definitely the best of its kind in the area. Great for lunch as well. Really can't go wrong here. Just remember to bring cash!

Walked past this place thousands of times at night.. So I decided to check it out while actually open.. I had a really yummy egg and cheese on a long roll ($4.50) and a small coffee (~$1.00) .. The coffee was really good.. I guess it was Hazelnut or something .. I'd go back.. Afterwards popped over to Rittenhouse Square and ate breakfast with the morning birds chirping.. Good start to the day.

My office is just a few blocks away and I have ordered breakfast delivery from here a lot. I mean, at least thirty times, probably more. I always order the same thing, so I'm not sure why they are now refusing to deliver to me. Today, the guy on the phone said "you need to order more for delivery"...which is insane considering I've ordered the SAME EXACT THING multiple times in the past and never had an issue. So, I'll just take my morning breakfast business elsewhere. Little Pete's will LITERALLY deliver you toast and coffee, sans attitude. Peace out, Grill Master. You have lost a customer.

i've stopped by a few more times after my initial review. i just can't stay away from their delicious salads! the guy at the counter has definitely gotten better and i don't think he was ever intentionally trying to be rude in the past...i just think he has a brusque demeanor. i've caught him chattin it up with some regulars (seems like they have lots of them and they are always busy...both good signs). he's def grown on me...even knowing exactly what i'm about to order before i even say anything. give them a try...you'll get addicted to their salads!

RUDE. As a small business owner I'm tired of dealing with people who act like they are doing the customer a favor taking their hard earned cash. They could be serving up some great sandwiches (Not the case) and it would still be unacceptable to pay for the rude guy at the counter to keep a job.

If you're looking for an awesome egg white sandwich, this is your spot. Multigrain bread, yummy eggs, and American cheese. All for $3.75! Friendly employees and quick cooking (at least when I arrived at 7:30am on a Friday). I haven't tried anything else, but this spot is top notch as far as classic egg sandwiches go!

The "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" theme always plays in my head whenever I enter this place: Solid sandwich menu. Passable cheesesteaks. Skip the fried stuff because it's all frozen, crinkle-cut crap anyway. Decent value for the money. Convenient location to grab a work lunch and whisk it back to the office. However, I keep an eye on the guy at the register because he always appears ready to pitch a fit and start throwing spatulas. There is no customer service. You're in Philly. Give your order, fork over your cash, take your paper bag of greasy deliciousness, and get out.

Was in the mood for a grilled chicken sandwich. Called here and ordered over the phone. I was there 10 minutes later and they were just packing up my two sandwiches. Asked for grilled chicken, tomatoes, lettuce, and avocado. Sandwiches were packed the white chicken pieces that were nicely spiced with black pepper. The sliced wheat bread was nicely toasted. They also carry ice cream bars, which was another requisite of my pregnant wife. They really saved me in a bind with some so simple, tasty sandwiches. The only thing I wish was some sort of online menu. Thinking I might post photos of the hanging menus on my next trip over.

A quick search on Yelp for "breakfast sandwiches" led to my discovery of this gem. I've walked by here too many times to count, and it wasn't until today that I learned what lay behind the green Grill Master awning. My sausage, egg, cheese, and avocado on an everything bagel was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in a great while. Dining Partner had egg and cheese on croissant. We were both pleased with our sandwiches. I added avocado to my sandwich and the portion was very generous. For a mere $13 we enjoyed two breakfast sandwiches, an orange juice, and a banana. No frills, but good food and VERY reasonable prices. The cashier was friendly, the sandwiches were made to order, and service was quick. Undoubtedly we will be back for more!

Where does one venture to find solitude from their hangover? Grill Master Deli! I have finally seen the light and no where in Center City compares for a to-go breakfast sandwich of this quality. A few dollars more than other delis or the lunch carts parked on the street. I reward myself after a night of heavy drinking with egg whites, avocado, and American cheese on wheat toast. The grill master sure knows what he is doing because my egg whites are always fluffy and delicious while the bread is actually toasted perfectly. Plus this breakfast sandwich isn't soggy or dripping with grease like at other places. Breakfast served till 11 am. This spot definitely lives up to its name "Grill Master".

This is the spot for a breakfast sandwich! I'm sure their other subs are just as tasty. Bring cash.

It works if you're desperate for food, but I can make a better sandwich @ home. Not to mention the guy @ the register has been consistently rude, Wait for your food and then wait to pay. Why not order and pay? Just sayin'!

I've known of this place for a couple years, with it being only a few blocks from my apartment. I've never given it a shot because, from the outside it doesn't look like a place where you could get any really good food. Boy, was I wrong. I was searching for a good breakfast sandwich this morning, and I found the Yelp reviews about this place. They were all right, this place is awesome. The Pork Roll, Egg, and Cheese on kaiser I got this morning was just great. I was excited to see that they also have Scrapple on the menu for breakfast and I am definitely going to get that next time. Their menu, for breakfast and lunch, is actually pretty huge, lots of options pancakes, sandwiches, hoagies and everything was pretty inexpensive my sandwich was under $4. Only downside seems to be that they are closed on Sunday. I can't wait until I can go back. TL;DR great food, cheap prices, fast, big menu, breakfast, lunch

It's 1pm... I've been on conference calls all day at work... I just want a decent quick, delicious, and simple lunch.... Where can I go?? Grill Master Deli!!! I live right around the corner from here, and I when you just want something to eat quickly this is definitely the place to go. They have a great menu that has everything that you could want and more for lunch. And guess what, you don't have to deal with Jared and his "Corporate 5 dollar footlong!!" And did I mention that it is priced RIGHT! I am talking you can get a sandwich, soda, and maybe some chips for all under $10 or EVEN LESS!!! WOW!!!

  • Jason R.

So the hoagies here are ok, but that's really about it. In the past 8 years ive been working around the corner, each year i seem to go less & less. It seems as there was ownership change and that's when things got really bad. most of the food is not worth the cost at all. to pay the price you do and get as little as you get, it's a shame. This really should only be a last resort place.....

This place is cheap, they give you plenty of food, and it's all delicious. For my money, they have the best breakfast sandwiches around.

I was wandering around center city this morning looking for a simple breakfast that wasn't fast food and wasn't a sit down restuarant. so i typed breakfast into the little yelp application on my phone and this was on the list. I like trying new spots so I thought why not. It was very unassuming inside, but lots and lots and lots of options for great sandwiches and pasta salads and other deli sort of foods. They have some healthy drink options, too. Coffee is here. And normal stuff like soda, cigarettes, etc. The man who took my order was very polite and I asked for a simple egg and cheese sandwich. They had more than just rolls which is sometimes the down fall of a lunch truck. I was able to get an english muffin (simple but i feel like most places don't have them!) with egg & cheese and a bottle of chocolate Silk soy milk for $4.50. I guess I could get it a little cheaper, but that sounds about right. Breakfast is done here at 11:30 though. You can't get breakfast all day. It was ready super fast. and when i brought it to the park with me (it's less than 2 blocks from Rittenhouse) and took my first bite, it was seriously delicious. I know its just eggs, but sometimes there's just something about the way one makes a breakfast sandwich. and the english muffin was fresh (I always think they're going to be stale because i feel like im the only person who orders things on an english muffin so maybe they've been sitting arond for a while). It was great. I definitely suggest this place for a quick in and out bite on the go.

I have walked by this place so many times without going in. Finally, in need of a quick breakfast and to curb a serious banana pancake craving, I stopped in. No, it's not gourmet, but solid good diner-type food. The service is friendly and fast, and there are a lot of choices. I wish there was somewhere to sit and enjoy the food (they put a few folding chairs outside but some tables might be nice too). On my first visit, I ordered the banana pancakes. I was surprised that they folded the mashed bananas into the pancakes instead of just dumping bananas on top like most places. This is how I make my banana pancakes at home! You get three huge pancakes in an order, and it's only $3.99. Breakfast is served all day on Saturdays. (Only til 11:30 on weekdays). Second time around I was hungrier, so I ordered the aptly named "Hungry Man's Breakfast." OMG, SO MUCH FOOD. I must have read the menu wrong but it came with both bacon AND sausage, 3 eggs, homefries and toast. I ordered my eggs over-medium because that is my test of a true "grill master." They came slightly over-done but nearly perfect. The whole platter could have used a tad more seasoning, namely salt. Also the toast had no jelly nor did it come with a packet. Next time I will ask. Definitely worth the $4.99 I paid! Overall the food was good and I will be back. I have to try some of their sandwiches. They have lots of vegetarian items too.

I stopped in for breakfast while I was in town on business. I had the Hungry Man breakfast. You get a ton of tasty food for like 5 bucks. Scrambled eggs were just ok, bacon was not cooked to order and was limp but tasted good, sausage and potatoes were good. I might go back tomorrow.

One of the best price/value relationships for lunch in Rittenhouse. I just had The Hungry Texan -- grilled chicken and beef topped off with bar-b-que sauce on an Amorosa's roll. That, plus a 12-oz. soda for less than $6. And that's a tasty meal. They move fast at Grill Master. And it can kind of look like chaos in there at lunchtime. Don't be daunted...stand still and get the pace of the place. Order...then wait just a little time. You don't pay until your order is up -- no matter what. I recommend the Jewish hoagie and the BLT from there. They also do tasty breakfast sandwiches.

The food at the deli is not bad, but I consistently get nasty service when I go in there, so much so that I actively avoid the place despite the convenience of its location.

You are homeless. It is a sad story really. You lost your job at the local meat packing plant because you were caught hoarding cuts of meat in your over-sized yellow rubber pants. You pleaded with your boss to keep you on, and told him of how you were simply trying to feed your family. He wouldn't have it. Like Donald Trump he pointed at you from across his board room table and told you, "You're Fired!." You're wife left you for one of your former co-workers who could still get away with sneaking prime cuts of beef. You turn to alcohol to ease your heart ache. Your only friend is Jack Daniels, and eventually he leaves as well, leaving you with a guy named Vladimir. You are evicted and you home is now a cardboard box placed over a vent on the corner of Broad and Walnut. Your lone possession is your trusty six string. You aren't good. You never were. But with plenty of free time, you write humorous songs about your own misfortune. You begin playing these songs for passerby's who laugh. It is unclear if they are laughing at your songs or you personally. It doesn't matter, they are giving you money. $4.95 is your daily earning, enough you get a large sandwich or hoagie from Grill Master Deli. You are now satisfied and toss around the idea of going on tour. You decide to practice all day and night until someone notices your talent. You get drunk instead. You are homeless and it is a sad story really.

I'm headed there right now to get a decent sandwich. It's like that place Wisemiller's in Georgetown, only not quite as good and without the cookies.

Great place for grabbing sandwiches TO GO. In fact, this is one of those places you never notice until someone brings you in and you have a great sandwich that forces you to recognize the goodness that is Grillmasters. I've had various items from the egg and cheese sandwiches on bagel (super yummy) to chicken salad on hoagie with pickles and hotpeppers (don't judge me). All items are fresh and as someone who usually cringes at the idea of ordering chicken/egg/tuna salad from a deli I have to say everything is extremely fresh and made really well. The coffee is also really good, nothing special - not La Colombe I don't think - just good simple deli coffee. If you live or work in the neighborhood and want a quick and extremely CHEAP lunch or breakfast to go be sure to check out Grill Master Deli!

Grillmaster is the jam for lunch-time deli eats. The prices are more than decent and the food is fresh, fresh, fresh. True, this is not gourmet, but the food ranges from standards to more inventive choices and the portion sizes are ample. The tuna salad is always fresh. The service is fast and super friendly. I'm eating a ceasar salad with grilled chicken as I write this and it's totally solid.

my review is not going to be a helpful one, so sorry in advance. my review is mostly based on the service of Grill Master. they rule, simply put. very fast paced but never rushing anyone. i never hear the front main managers yelling at the cooks and backcounter people. i love that, bc it really bothers me when i hear managers yelling at their staff. i have walked out of places bc of that shit. the woman at the register is always so sweet and kind to everyone, she knows them and asks about their families, etc. she always seems to have all the orders under control. okay all that said, i only ever get bananas hahaha. they are only 25 cents each. and they always see me and let me just lay my change for them on the counter when they're busy. i love that. but man the food does smell super good!
