I went to Girard today for brunch. The coffee was amazing. The serving pitcher was enough for three cups and it stayed hot the whole time. My boyfriend and I split the French toast as a starter. It was incredible without any syrup or additional sauce. I got the eggs Benedict with spinach. It was perfect. The eggs were poached perfectly and the potatoes were amazing. My boyfriend got the two eggs with sausage. The sausage was homemade and very flavorful. The portions were filling. We were incredibly pleased with the food and upscale, fine dining service. We can't wait to go back to try the daily dinner specials.

What ever happened to getting what you're paying for? That's not happening here! $16 for a thin hamburger made from "chuck" ( AKA. the cheapest, fattiest beef). I'd rather not hear my arteries slamming shut while eating a burger). No bread or even a cracker offered with the soup. "Beet tartare" was nothing but diced cold beets. No salt or pepper on the tables so you have to bother your server for them. Burned pie crust with traces of pears and no "apricots" as promised or dry, tasteless bread pudding for dessert. We all suffered through our tiny, WAY over-priced portions of fancily-described, boring food and swore that once was more than enough for this place!

My second visit to Girard did not disappoint! The food here is truly delicious! The service is wonderful and you will have a great time with your family or friends! I have been here twice for brunch so far, I wish upon a star they open a location in my neighborhood!

Great brunch! Service and food were excellent. Menu is on the small side but everything was delicious. Portions were just right and we left very satisfied. French Toast was delicious - the combo of flavors were great. The Oliveria omelette was very well done and the breakfast potatoes were amazing. Homemade sausage was spicy and delicious too. Good coffee! Loved the music selection - late 90's / early 00's indie rock. The yellow decor was fun and the seats surprisingly very comfortable. Only negative was the bloody "marie". They are made with tomato water which looks like dirty water - visually off putting. Tasted more like cucumber water. Very refreshing but not what was expected when seeking the spicy savory kick of a bloody. Will definitely be back to try some piri piri chicken!

Great meal. Great service. Great location/decor. What more could you ask for. Tried a bunch of different food stuffs and beverages. Started with cheese and meats, the selections of which were inspired. The house made duck breast prosciutto really stood out. Soup, a shrimp bisque garnished with a whole grilled scallop, was excellent. Entrees were both specials for the evening, lamb ragu with gnocchi and a steak frite, the steak prepared with a coffee rub. Both were aces. Glad my buddy was willing to share. For dessert we had the cheesecake and funnelcake-esque option. If you guessed delicious, then madame you are correct. Our server, Cristian, was attentive, knowledgeable and funny without being overbearing. He really added to the dining experience. Go here. You'll enjoy it.

I wanted to try GBB since I've spent many years working in the food industry and appreciate the staff getting a better wage and benefits. The service was good but the food was just average. The quinoa breakfast bowl was okay but the French toast wasn't. It was a large piece of dry bread and the brittle on top tasted burnt. Neither my guest nor I enjoyed it. The place was half empty on a Sunday at 12noon so you don't have to wait. I do like the concept but GBB's food doesn't compare to the other, well know brunch places in the city.

A group of us are here today to film a shoot. The owner was so very nice and accommodating. I had the quinoa and berries and it was absolutely delicious. Everyone else's food looked wonderful and I heard nothing but positive feedback. The interior is bright and sunny and I say bravo.

Great spot! Fantastic service and food with a lovely concept that should be embraced around Philly and beyond. Ordered lamb the burger and the avocado toast.

Fine experience. Excellent and sophisticated elaboration on flavours. Loved the French toast. Moreover, the French press was like fireworks of flavour in my mouth.

Quality food and something for everyone - meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans, etc. I don't understand how they make the simplest thing taste so good - their avocado toast is just perfect. I love how they change up the menu but don't sacrifice taste or quality. I also love their model as it mimics cafes in the EU with fair treatment for staff. They serve Elixr coffee and also have a great tea selection.

Didn't want to like this place, because I work for tips and this is a no-tip place. The food was really good and worth the value. Chef Brian as is his partner Christian, both nice guys and they make clean food and they're both great guys. I loved the food and of course I tipped. Heavy!

Great food and decor. Service was quick and appreciate after living in Europe the idea of gratuity included those will say that for it to work service needs to keep up and better it did. Would go back.

I'm offering no stars. Reservation at 7:30, host gave the reservation to someone else. Took forever to get water and acknowledged. Menu somewhat interesting. Bus boy clueless and had no personality, confused by the simplest of requests, however, in his defense the server talked to him like trash. Server was condescending for no reason, only checked back on us once after two in our party of 5 were delivered their appetizers. Never came back to check on our dinner to see how it came out (after we waited over an hour and a half) and mine was cold (the crab cake served over a pound of guac). There were too many seats for the 1 bathroom so a line was always formed in front of it that trailed throughout the petite dining room. Another guest in our party had the bitter disgusting lentil salad. The wine that we had chilling in the back took forever when we requested it. I would never go back. I would never recommend it to anyone. The art show happening was absolutely amazing though and it was lovely to see how well received the artist was. Overall thanks but no thanks. I will say though that the rude host did offer our appetizers to be taken off for giving our reservation to someone else who claimed to be our party and even going so far as to say they were us.

Stumbled upon this quaint little brasserie on a recent visit to Philly. What a great find. The service was attentive, and the food was delicious, especially the avocado and bacon omelette. Thanks for making our visit even better.

This place is consistently amazing. Tonight we showed up 15 minutes before closing (we only realized this later), and the owner never showed any impatience with us as we ordered dinner and dessert. Can't say enough good things about this place. Salad nicoise was equally beautiful and delicious. So was the avocado toast.

The food here is excellent, coffee is fabulous, ambiance is lovely, and the service is first rate. This is our new favorite place for brunch and dinner. The owner is extremely cordial and accommodating. All in all, the components are in place for a great success. Disappointment is not on the menu.

Went there for lunch yesterday with DiSab, it was remarkable. We brought our own Belvedere and our waitress made us Elderfower martinis from the drink cart. DiSab had the mushroom soup and burger and I had the avocado toasts and the burger- everything was excellent!

We decided to place ourselves at the mercy of the chef on Friday, 21 November, opening day. My luncheon companions were two music professors from Temple, one of whom had just returned from Paris, so her palate was still vibrating with memories of that city's cuisine.. And though all three of us were more than old enough to be the grandparents of any of Girard's employees, we sat like obedient children, as the chef blessed us with course after course of some of the most delicious food we've had in a long time. I won't even attempt to describe it here, because my rather limited food vocabulary couldn't do it justice. But it was, quite simply, one of the best meals we have ever eaten. And given the fact that it was the first serving for lunch on opening day, the staff functioned like a well oiled machine, with Johnny, our server, never missing a beat. Girard is not only a welcomed addition to burgeoning Fishtown, but to the city of Philadelphia, as well. I wisely let the chef know ahead of time that we would allow him to serve us whatever he selected. That gave him time to think about what he would choose. It's a fun way to dine when you're in such capable hands.

Service was a little slow but very friendly; I really enjoyed myself and would like to go back to try more items. Avocado toast was delicious (as promised) and I got the braised beef special that was also excellent. We had a large group and they brought us some complimentary cheeses and chocolate which was a nice treat. I was very pleased with the amount of food for the price--and the price did not seem out of line with other hipster/trendy fishtown places, even with the upcharge for no tipping. Much more pleased with this than Kensington Quarters down the street which seemed overpriced for tiny portions.

When you advertise fresh, you should produce fresh. My friends enjoyed their meals today, unfortunately I ordered the tuna salad. No one can hide the texture, the appearance or flavor of CANNED tuna, made even less tasty for the price tag. Charge more, serve fresh. Disappointed.

My girlfriend and I came for lunch a few weeks ago and loved it. I had an amazing herbal tea, a delicately flavored lentil salad and a deeply delicious lamb shank that was falling off the bone. The service was wonderful, the restaurant is gorgeous and it's wonderful to have a brunch spot you can make reservations at, instead of waiting for 100 hours outside of a first come first serve jawn. 100% lovely.

Went here with a group of six for brunch today. Everything was pretty on point-I had the French toast, another person had an omelette, another the eggs Benedict, the croque Monsieur, and some kind of salad thing that my brother-in-law picked. Coffee was great. My French toast was super moist even without any extra syrup. The cherry compote was less of a compote and more like chewy dried cherries as garnish, which wasn't a bad thing. Had a side of tasty merguez sausage. Mother-in-law'a omelette was nice and fluffy, good cheese flavor. My sister devoured her eggs Benedict with duck prosciutto, and it was nice that they had a choice of proteins for that one in case you had vegetarians or non-pork eaters in your crowd. The potatoes lyonnaise were crispy and had great flavor. Everything could have been served a little hotter but again, it still tasted good. Kid-friendly, cozy, not too dressy but still had a sophisticated, sleek vibe. Only downside was that it was super loud in there-not sure what they can do about that acoustics wise but it seems to be endemic to byobs to be very loud! Decor was bright and peppy-loved the panoramic photo of Girard in the bathroom. Overall, great brunch option that takes reservations and we'll be back for dinner!

Having reviewed the menu prior to being coaxed by friends to give it a try, I was supremely disappointed. The decor was stark and not reminiscent of a French bistro but more of an East German cafe before 1989. The noise level must hover close to 99 db. The black and white ceiling was no substitute for decor. Not a single flower. So on to the food. This is another BYOB (bring your own bread). Nothing served with the soup. A beet tartare for $9.50 consisted of at most a quarter of a diced beet. The hamburger was tasty and accompanied with 12 waffle chips and a dollop of mustard for $16. The desert choices were limited. I was served a pear/apricot tart with burned crust. A taste of the bread pudding made me savor the burned tart, it was that bad. In summary, this is a PRICEY restaurant that is offering small portions of unremarkable food described with gastronomic hyperbole that misses the mark. Service was good but exhausting with "Would you like to enjoy some more wine, some water, some pepper?". Actually I would've liked to have enjoyed a well prepared and fairly priced meal and have been able to hear what my dinner companions were saying. "Thumbs down".

This place never disappoints me. The food is always on point, there's nothing like it in the neighborhood, they frickin serve elixr coffee, and I love the yellow and black decor. That's all.

Girard on Girard made my food dreams come true today. I got a lentil and frisee salad with picked persimmon, trumpet mushrooms and a poached egg. The layers of flavor meshed so we'll it was hard to believe. But I am forced to believe... This salad was truely fun to eat. I also got picked vegetables, a healthy portion of radishes, peppers, fennel. Outdoor seating on Girard was really nice today.

So pleasantly surprised. A couple of friends and I came here for dinner last night. We shared the avocado toast, cheese plate, and crab cake appetizers. The crab cake was incredible, no filler. The avocado toast was comprised of a thick toasted piece of pumpernickel metropolitan bakery bread piled high with smashed avocado, seasonal pesto, and a dollop of ricotta. I detected a hint of dill which I wasn't thrilled with, but when all the flavors combined in my mouth I couldn't stop taking more bites. I would definitely come back for more. The cheese plate featured 3 cheeses, marcona almonds, honeycomb, and miniature grapes. Crostini was served with the cheese plate as well. All of the appetizers were fairly priced, the cheese plate in particular was a steal. For entrees my friends enjoyed the vegetable mezze plate and the bacon Gruyere omelet. I had the Piri Piri chicken which was juicy, flavorful, and served bones intact. It is fairly spicy, which I loved, but if you are sensitive to spice this is a fair warning. Served with a fennel slaw, it was a delicious entree and a generous portion. I loved the way that the server presented the check. Three bite sized pieces of dark chocolate were presented to us on a plate with the check underneath. Clever and a sweet touch. We used a Gilt City voucher and had no problems at all. The staff was incredible and though gratuity is included we left a little something to show our appreciation. The staff mentioned that brunch was worth coming back for, and I will definitely be back for both brunch and more dinners. Surprised it took me nearly a year to try Girard as I live so close. Definitely worth repeat visits.

So I really want to rate this place a 5 star, I think I will once I get to try their dinner. Ok first things first, this restaurant is called Girard (per giant yellow sign). Brasserie and bruncherie seem to be subtitles (nowhere to be seen in the front door aside from being on the menu). Not a big deal, just technicalities. I came in for brunch with my boyfriend and sat outside. I kind of got a diner vibe once I walked in the restaurant, however, make no mistake, the food was far from diner quality. We started with the tomato gazpacho (morr puree than creamy but certainly was filled with flavor). I normally dislike puree soup but this was really good. I had the smoked duck benedict with hollandaise sauce on the side while my bf had the country style breakfast with bacon, charred grapefruit. Ok, so I was actually expecting a thicker piece of duck than sliced beef like duck. However, it was overall very good without being too salty which is normally the reason why I don't like smoked salmon on my benedict. Glad I got to try the duck version benedict. My boyfriend really enjoyed the hike fries which were a fusion of being a chip but filled with potato filling. We ended our meal with the banana granola coffee cake, served warm and moist. No complaints there. The granola were toasty and crunchy, loved it. Oh for our drinks. We had the ice cafe Brulee (I thought was a little disappointing because it tasted like a cold brew) and coconut Chai lemonade (one word, INTERESTING but not my cup of tea). Overall, a very enjoyable meal outdoors because the building was on the side where it was shaded so not too hot on summer days. I'd definitely come back for their dinner menu and review again. But I'd really give this a 4.5 star for brunch in fishtown.

I came to here expecting to rate them 5 stars before even trying it, but upon trying it was a little let down. I found two hairs in my food. For a $60 brunch tab I expect the kitchen staff to put on a hairnet. The other hygiene issue which my girlfriend pointed out was one chef was texting the going back to work without washing her hands. I am imagining them texting with that phone on the trolly right after holding the nasty rail. Other than hygiene however, I was impressed by the food. I wasn't blown away because it was trying to seem exotic but when you break down the dishes its kind of ordinary often inexpensive ingredients. The execution was on point though and they showed creativity in how the ingredients were paired. I liked the pistachio butter and banana sandwich the best. I was underwhelmed actually by the pistachio butter - i thought it would be more catchy - but the sandwich pulled it off by being fried and the bananas were fried too and there was a side of dipping syrup that was good. I also had the Quinoa for my main course and it was good but it couldve used more of the additives like poached egg or berries and less of the quinoa. My girlfriend had the eggs Benedict with salmon but it couldve used some pickled red onion on it. Overall a lot of just slightly missed marks. Good meal though.

I went for a weekend brunch. just looking at the menu, i wanted everything. My friend got the mushroom lentil salad and I got the French toast which was the size of my head. there was a coconut chai deliciousness that i can't put into words. the service was lovely and prompt. and i absolutely don't mind the fact that tip is included! there was also no line. i'll happily be back here for brunch.

AVOCADO TOAST...that's all I gotta say. I've never had it before, but it's what the craze is all about now, and don't know whether it's a blessing or a curse that I had it here (it was awesome!). Visiting a good friend all weekend, we were lucky to try so many good restaurants and this was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had in a long time. Even looking at other people's review, I can tell that this place has consistency. We walked into this bright restaurant on Saturday late morning for brunch. I still had my coffee from La Colombe so I politely asked our host/waiter if it was OK for me to bring it in (and if not, that's completely fine and I'll throw it out). He was taken aback that I asked because he told me nobody has ever asked him and that it was definitely OK for me to bring it in. He was an extremely nice guy! We split a couple of small dishes, such as the aforementioned avocado toast and the pistachio-butter & banana sandwich. The avocado toast was amazing - granted, I've never had it before, but it was on this pumpernickel bread and all the flavors worked magically together. I'm typically not a fan of pumpernickel bread, but with the thick avocado (picture guac, but more "spreadable") and the additional toppings, it all worked really well. In addition to the avocado, there was pickled asparagus, goat cheese, and some radish slices. The pistachio-butter & banana sandwich was tasty, but really sweet. Granted, we all put syrup on it because that's how you're supposed to eat it, but the syrup added a whole other layer of sweetness that it didn't necessarily need, but it was still sweet and moist. I ordered the country-style breakfast as my main brunch entree and it was really good. I got scrambled eggs, which were seasoned perfectly, and their home fries are thinly-sliced potatoes the size of quarters, and they were great. The biscuit was a bit dry, but warm and tasty. The charred grapefruit was interesting - definitely a cool concept and great in theory, but I'm just not a fan of grapefruit. Overall, an awesome place in the neighborhood and I definitely want to check them out for dinner sometime...one of the best brunches I've had, hands down.

Did I just have the best brunch EVER today? Quite possibly so. From the friendly service to the impeccable food execution, there is no way to describe this experience other than "pure and simple perfection." I had a wonderful Chai Latte with my Croque Madame, which was perfectly made with fresh Sourdough, ham, and Gruyere, and a side of fresh, house-made potato chips. My friends had the Eggs Benedict with Salmon Gravlax and the Gin Salmon Gravlax. All were very tasty and perfect in portion. The ingredients are locally sourced, and it looks like the menu changes seasonally. I also wanted to try just about every other item on the menu, but there wasn't enough room. Some items that stood out were the Quinoa Breakfast Bowl, the Smoked Royal Trumpet + Lentil Salad, and the French Toast. There is definitely something for everyone. I also highly recommend bringing your own champagne to complement your food with mimosas. This is a BYOB, and although it's perfect for brunch, it looks like there is a dinner menu as well. For a restaurant that pays its staff higher wages than the typical $2.83/hr + tip, the prices are still comparable to other good brunch spots in Philly. Also, the decor is awesome. You really feel like you're in a different world while you're inside. It's kind of a hike for downtown city dwellers to get to, but it is within walking distance of the Girard Ave. stop on the blue line and it's totally worth it once you're there. I can't wait to be back!

I've been meaning to try Girard Brasserie since it opened, and thankfully had the opportunity to today. We split a 4-cup french press pot of Columbian coffee that was quite smooth with just a little bit of milk added. The coffee cups are petite, but the 4-cup was more than enough for the two of us. There were two other types of beans available, including one that was described as kool-aid-y (which sounded too strange for coffee, so we stayed clear of that one). For food, we split the croque monsieur + egg and the eggs benedict with duck ham. The croque was an open-faced sandwich with a thick slice of white bread, ham, cheese, topped with an egg and drizzled in a jus sauce. It was quite wonderful and rich. The eggs benny was also pretty great--the crust on the bread was a bit tough but I give extra points for the duck ham because I haven't seen that anywhere else in Philly. We also tried the salted-caramel doughnut for dessert, and honestly I wish we would have skipped this. I didn't enjoy the flavors and thought it was a little dry. A disappointing end to a great meal. I'll definitely be back once it gets warm outside--I noticed that all of the windows open up and I love eating en plein air :)

I came here last night with a few friends and had a fantastic dinner! True to other reviews, the avocado toast was fantastic! Other amazing apps were the cheese plate, which gives you a nice variety, and the crab cake. The crab cake was great though; definitely my favorite. Very little filler, if any, and just an overall really yummy taste. For the main course, I had the vegetable mezze plate, which was beyond words. Great taste and smoothness to the hummus, veggies were seasoned well; just an overall wonderful meal. Service was excellent and the atmosphere overall was quite enjoyable.

Even better than we expected! A perfect Valentine's Day dinner . . . The atmosphere is warm and the entire staff attentive, friendly and inviting. The open kitchen set-up is beautiful. On top of the regular menu, there were special options for Valentine's Day. We started with the Foie Gras Tartine and the Shrimp Bisque . . . both excellent. The bisque was possibly the best I've tasted, very deep flavors. We both chose one of the specials, I had the hanger steak which was perfectly prepared as ordered (medium rare), full of flavor and tender. My partner had the scallop special - again perfectly cooked and delicious. We added a shared side of seared wild mushrooms, simple and very good. We closed out by sharing a dessert - the awesome, light as air Zeppoli, with caramel sauce and topped with delicious butter pecan ice cream. Seriously, service was as good as it gets - and everyone in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying the evening. We will be back . . . kudos to Brian, the talented chef! Girard is a winner.

Summary: Beautiful space with friendly, attentive staff and deliciously flavored meals. A great concept for a restaurant in this generation--no tipping required. I love the idea that the owners are giving their staff a living wage and benefits to boot. (Tip anyway! Everything is great!) I visited with a party of three others on Girard's second night open--11/22/14. The entire place was running like a well-oiled machine, which can be suprising for a place that just opened. The only hiccup of our visit was that there seemed to be some kind of misunderstanding for my friends order with the waitress... But I have to chalk it up to it being the restaurants second day. I ordered a prixe fix meal because it was a great deal-- App, meal, dessert for fair price. I had celery soup to start--the flavor was amazing and not what I was expecting. It tasted like amazing thanksgiving day stuffing somehow. There was not a drop left in my bowl. I had the roast beef as my main--very tender--and the horseradish sauce was amazing. For dessert I had the chocolate tart. It was very good! But if you're not a huge fan of chocolate, I would either share it or get a different dessert as its one of those chocolate desserts that leaves you full after a few spoonfuls. The rest of my party savored and enjoyed their food as well. We all tried a little of each other's. The avocado toast was sooo good! The flavors are so tasty--it was even a little spicy. The burger was amazing and the potatoes are so so good! I've been craving the burger and potatoes since we've been there. The philly muffin the burger comes on is so nice and crusty. I also tried my wife's pumpkin creme brûlée and it was amazing. It was smooth and light. We all also shared a charcuterie plate--amazing!! I can't wait to return to try their breakfast foods--they're served all day! The atmosphere was lovely: the decor is modern--I like the yellow and black color palette. The space is cozy, but you don't feel like you're sitting on top of other diners--which I hate. The vibe is chill, but fancy. The staff is knowledgable, friendly, and attentive. The owners and lovely--the chef comes up with the best flavor combos! MAKE YOUR RESERVATION!

I just had dinner here tonight with the 'rents and it was amazing We had the cheese board, pork chop, ribs, veggie plate and plum tart for dessert. Everything was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was great and I was shocked that it wasn't way busy for how amazing the food and service were. That's another thing...we had the sweetest most top notch server tonight and even if the food wasn't as delicious as it was I would probably come back due to how A+ the service was. Honestly have no complaints! So glad to have finally tried this place out!

Ate at Girard on Sunday. The staff was super nice, The ambience is celan and energetic and truly feels like a cute French bistro. Whoever the chef is, he is extremely talented. We had the eggs Benedict with duck and it was AMAZING!

I don't even know where to begin! They were extremely understanding of us being late to our reservation. We were immediately seated once we arrived and suggestions were made on what drinks to get. The place is BYOB. We didn't know this so we were actually offered liquor on the house! I got the coconut chai lemonade with extra shots of vodka. It was mixed so well by Christian that I didn't even realize that I was drinking alcohol. Food (5 stars) Everything was just on point. And by that I mean the seasoning and presentation. We finished almost everything and by no means are the portion sizes small. It was that good. To start we got the soup of the day and the crab cake. Let's just say I'll be dreaming about the crab cakes when I return to Chicago. Next we ordered the Niçoise salad. The salmon was cooked to perfection, seriously, I am not over exaggerating. For entrees, I ordered the mussels and he got the seasonal flat iron steak with summer vegetables. Again, seasoning was perfect, not too salty and very palatable. I think there were over 40 mussels that came with my dish, which is something I've never seen before! Service (5 stars) Christian and Kristin you both rock! Thank you for making our evening so memorable! The staff is extremely attentive and made every effort to make our experience as comfortable as possible. Empty plates and glasses were taken off of the table within 5 minutes. Plates and silverware were replenished after every course. I can honestly say that I've never had such a nice experience at such a low cost. Girard's is rare in that pleasant service is expected of the staff. Our bill came out with service included in the cost of each dish. I was so surprised because other restaurants that we have visited expect you to pay for service even if it is subpar. Let's just say I've never wanted to tip at a restaurant so badly. They definitely earned our gratitude. All in all, there are so many great things to say about Girard's. If you are looking for a fantastic and intimate setting for your date, look no further than Girard's. P.S. I was so satisfied with the experience that I had to immediately write this review. Again, thank you Girard's!

Their service is unbelievable. Some of the best service I've ever had. As far as the food goes it's just okay. I've been there for both brunch and dinner. I actually went got New Years. It was one of the only places we could get a reservation. For breakfast I got an omelette which was average. Nothing special but not bad. I had the Niçoise salad for dinner which was okay- seemed like they used canned tuna. All in all I'd say it's worth a try.

Wow that was definitely one of the best brunches I've ever had. We brought a bottle of champagne to enjoy with a carafe of their fresh squeezed orange juice. For food we started with the Avocado toast. Generous portion of whipped avocado and toppings that included picked asparagus. The entrees were top of the line and included the gravlax with pickled egg, beets, cucumber salad, dill cream cheese and crostini. Amazing. Everything was very fresh and the flavors were on point. Fair prices and some of the best brunch fare in the city! Highly recommended.

This is a great neighborhood spot for dinner. I came here on Saturday my husband and had a great experience. We ordered the cheese plate, hanger steak, and burger and brought red wine. The food was great. The cheese plate was delicious and had a generous portion of three cheeses. It has had honeycomb and other accompaniments that paired well with the cheese. The burger was fantastic and so the was the hanger steak. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering service is included. Prices are comparable to places without service included. Service was excellent and very knowledgeable and attentive. We will definitely return and look forward to trying the brunch.

Me and my gf went to this place last weekend and was pleased with the food. I had the Country style Breakfast and my gf went for the Croque Madame with Spinach. I must say that both were great choices although the Country Style breakfast had nothing special other than their biscuits (Don't get me wrong it tasted good but its just eggs, bacon and salad so how much can you go wrong?:). I must say though, the Croque Madame was surely a more sophisticated and "a thing to try" kind of item. The only thing that bothered us was the rushing attitude of the waitress. She constantly approached us to take the order but we were just not ready and having hard time deciding... Anyway, we will be coming back for some deliciousness for sure!!!

Was very pleased with the food and taste. Would deffinetly go back and will be doing so in a week or so. Why a 4 stars instead of 5 for this great place that I am returning to within 2 weeks after going there the first time? Well, our meal was finished, all was amazingly awesome, they cleared the plates and brought the check right away. That's great but we wanted to try something from the beautiful capphicno machine they have. We were not given the chance to order. There is a coffee/record shop a few doors away that was also a great discovery that day.

Came for brunch this morning and had an amazing experience! Since Philly brunch can be busy, I made a reservation through Yelp SeatMe. We were seated right away after coming in and there were a lot of open tables around 11 am on a Sunday). My friends and I all started with cold brews, and I thought it was one of the best coffees I have ever tasted. I just came back from Israel where they are known for coffee and this cold brew at Girard blew every coffee I had there out of the water. I ordered the quinoa bowl with a poached egg, which was delicious and flavorful with berries, almonds, avocado and honey included. It was the perfect amount of food and at a great price. Our server (sorry I can't remember her name) was extremely accommodating. This place was the perfect brunch spot to catch up with friends and I can't wait to come back.

One day I drove by and noticed that there was something new and bright on the corner. I made a mental note to try it out soon. The new and bright something is Girard Brasserie & Bruncherie. I came in right at the beginning of dinner service. I picked a seat in the corner and was all set to enjoy my dinner. They have a roast of the day and this day's was a roast beef au jus. I asked about it and the server made a point of telling me that it was being served medium rare. This is how I like my meat so I ordered it and waited with anticipation. Alas, my roast arrived, a generous portion, but it was stone cold. The sides it was served with were the right temps but the meat was not. Also, only maybe the center 1 1/2" was med rare, the rest of it being well done, cold and grainy. I never do this but I complained to the server. He took my plate away and told me if he heated the meat it might be close to meduim or med well. I accepted this. When he returned it to me he told me that they had just refired the plate. Alas, this one suffered from the same problem of being a) cold, b) overcooked on the outside and under in the middle. This time around, I just ate what I could and left what I couldn't stomach. I did not complain or send it back. I think I just made the wrong choice that night because I saw the food everyone was getting and it all looked awesome. Oh well. I know I make this complaint frequently but I just feel a lot of the eateries in the Northern Liberties area are overpriced and This place is no different. Oh Well.

Meh. I wanted to like this place. Unfortunately it missed the mark for me. I came here for brunch a few weeks back with my boyfriend, and we chose to do the $10 lunch special. He ordered the roast beef sandwich and I got the soup and salad combo. My boyfriend really liked his sandwich, but I wasn't so impressed with my meal. I chose the squash soup, and it was quite thin and lacked salt and pepper. I wouldn't order it again. I went with the Cesar salad, and was equally as disappointed. The salad also lacked salt and pepper. It wasn't anything special. I know most people are thinking "how special can a SALAD be?" Trust me, salad can be unique and creative. This one was not. We both felt that the décor was a bit strange, and the wall color choice (bright yellow) may have been better in theory.

It took me about a year to get here, but now I've been the last 2 weekends! This place is just so lovely. Everyone (my parents and New York hipsters) who I've taken with me has loved it too. The service is fantastic without being too stuffy and surprisingly there hasn't been a wait for brunch either time we've been. The place looks a little cheesy on the outside, but the decor inside is bright and cheery and I love the wacky painted ceiling and open kitchen. Stellar menu items I've had thus far: french press coffee, blackberry breakfast pastry, smoked salmon eggs benedict and the crab cake special. Their breakfast potatoes/chips are delightful as well.

Girard Brasserie is damn good. I know there's been a lot of resistance/annoyance at their claim that "tipping not necessary" and I suspect that's the biggest issue they need to deal with. Im not against it, though I believe the way the public and press anticipated it and translated it, some of the public just got angry. I suppose that's a typical reaction from being confused. People don't like to be confused and the hype over Girard was inflated before it even opened. Let's stay focused on the most important thing of all: THE FOOD. The food is GREAT. I've had a great lunch there in January with a friend. We over ordered and treated ourselves to a great lunch/brunch feast. The service was really good and the kitchen was super. Our food was spectacular and we left with a smaller bill than expected. We tipped a lil on top of our bill because our server went out of her way for us which enhanced our meal. Then, last night, I stopped in with a friend as we were looking for a last minute dinner destination along Girard ave. I am so glad we did. Sadly, the place was mostly empty. I like that the interior is fresh and original. Thanks Girard, for not looking and acting like every other place Ive been too. The server was friendly and attentive. We started with the Avocado Toast to share. I have to admit, I was very pleasantly surprised. The heaping serving of smashed avocado had spring peas and mint mixed in with drizzles of honey. I wasn't prepared for the level of pleasure that evoked. I love getting an inventive surprise and this was exactly that. My friend had the half chicken piri piri, which was really tasteful and came on a large plate of saute'd vegetables. It was a LOT of food. My main course was the coffee-rubbed hanger steak. It was cooked in a wine reduction and placed onto a delicious layer of mashed potatoes that seemed to have the slightest hint of truffle. Im not sure but the entire dish was incredibly full of layers of flavor. We split a dessert and that too was amazingly good. Over all we had a very enjoyable dinner and the server dispelled confusion by his friendly mention that the bill he brought included tip already so we "can pretend we're in Paris". Honestly the bill was too low for the quality of our meal so we bumped what we each paid up to $40 so that there was another 10-12% tip. We did that so willingly because the food was just about perfect. In fact, the food was so good we had to double check the bill for a mistake because it was a lot lower than expected. We often pay as much for less inventive food at gastropubs. I hope that the area continues to support them because this is a gem for the neighborhood and the city. I'll be back.

really a gem in philly. 1. fresh locally sourced food in huge portions 2. delicious non alcoholic beverages 3. wonderful, friendly, non intrusive service 4. service charge is included in the bill for our apps we got the pickles and the avocado toast. the pickles had non traditional veggies like fennel and radish- just tart enough but crisp and light. the avocado toast came on dark brown bread that was still warm, with avocado seasoned with just enough lime and a dollop of ricotta and a drizzle of pesto. i could eat that for days. we split the nicoise salad and the burger for our entrees- the salmon was ordered medium and had just the perfect amount of crispy skin- served with roasted radishes (yum!) and a soft 6 min egg, charred par boiled beans and olives with butter lettuce. the burger was huge and we upgraded our side to the poutine fries- a huge pot of wedge fries with gooey cheese and a rich gravy poured on top. finally- not to be missed- the ice cream sandwich. 2 dinner plate sized dark chocolate cookies with house made strawberry ice cream. no further explanation needed. truly a fantastic addition to the already rich northern liberties/fish town scene. can't wait to go back for brunch.

Girard Brasserie and Bruncherie has been on my mind for about two months now. My friend Jennifer and I had lunch there today and I was not disappointed at all. The ambiance was inviting, the food was amazing, and the staff was so friendly! What's even better than their unique business model is that I learned that they received free business counseling from SCORE Philadelphia ( philadelphia.score.org ). It's so great to see the advice of volunteer small business mentors put into action throughout our communities! I'll be back soon (with more friends)!

Great lunch. Had the quiche and my ex had the smoked salmon . They were both excellent but the homemade pickles and chips are worth the trip. Best pickle I ever had. Homemade chocolate cherry ice cream was right there. And the treat there workers fairly. (Pay , insurance, vacations) what's the world coming to?

The food was delicious. We were very pleasantly surprised. The service was impeccable and attentive but not overwhelming. The pickeled vegetables were wonderful and plentiful. The burger was one of the best I have ever had and the piri pri chicken was not only abundant, niely spicy and flavorful the quality of the chicken was surperb. And dont forget the homemade ice cream. We will return again very soon. Want to try the house charcuterie next.

I recently had dinner at Girard Brasserie. I was redeeming a Groupon coupon. Wow. What a great meal. The avocado toast was outstanding. My husband and I both had the pork chops. They were moist and full of flavor. The prices are reasonable . The quality of the food. warrants higher. Lastly the service was better than any of the center city restaurants. Try it. Mary C

A walk for a quick brunch with friends turned into a wonderful. relaxing brunch experience! Place was not packed when we walked in on this late spring, early summer day. We ordered our food and the place slowly got packed. The wait staff was awesome, very attentive and fun! The food was sooooo good!!!! We all had our meals (standard brunch-y items - eggs, toast, coffee) and split the french toast. Just awesome good brunch food and great ambiance. The weather was so nice and all the windows were open. We sat there and chatted long after we ate our food and received no issues from the staff. We were mad that we forgot the booze though... the table next to us was popping champagne for mimosas like crazy! ha... NEXT time....

I'm so glad to have a great restaurant in the neighborhood. I love my burger and casual places but Girard amps it up. It's my go to place for visitors and family. Great food and service. Avocado toast is a must. You can't go wrong with the crab cakes and pickled vegetables. Everything is flavored beautifully. Tasteful without being overbearing. Had the ribs and broccoli slaw tonight. Great summer meal.

Had breakfast here a few weeks ago and loved it. Coffee was great and they also serve and avocado toast with goat cheese, mint and honey that is to DIE for. Service is great and they actually PAY their employees a livable wage. What's not to love?

Ate dinner here last night. As mentioned by most, the service was excellent and food well prepared. Didn't know the restaurant was byob and waiter was kind enough to grab a bottle from the back for us. Will certainly try to make it back more often - want to try brunch as well.

I went to Girard Brasserie & Bruncherie last Thursday for lunch. It was AMAZING! Beyond the fact that the yellow, and white color palette was cute & Euro modern, the food made every one of your tastebuds jump for joy. Our server was knowledgeable amazing, with a great personality. I'm not really a burger person --- I can more or less take the or leave them....but gouda cheese & bacon jam + chips done to perfection? I was in my happy place. For every last bite. Coconut Chai lemonade was on point, and the perfect thing for my "i'm-ready-for-spring-even-if-mother-nature isn't" kick & the creme brûlée smooth creamy goodness. It's not if I'll be back, it's definitely WHEN. And a bonus, they're all about an affordable wage for their workers. CHECK. And why wouldn't you want to support that? Definitely a business worth supporting. I'll be back!

I went there for dinner last night - the staff is lovely and the service was on-point. I easily could have paid almost twice as much for the same meal in Center City or the East Passyunk BYOs, and the service at other places wouldn't even match Girard's. Seriously! It's a beautiful nighttime atmosphere that actually pleased my hyper-critical lady crew (nothing short of a miracle these days), but had enough meaty options that I'd feel comfortable taking dates, parents, or whoever there. Crucially, it's not too loud even when it's on the fuller side (I'm hard of hearing and lose my voice easily, so this is *really* important to me, plus few restaurants in this neighborhood have good talking volume). This is definitely going to be my new go-to for BYOs. Also, DEFINITELY get the avocado toast. It sounds simple, but last night it was made with chili oil, honey, and microgreens, and it was a serious crowdpleaser. It walks that hearty/healthy line perfectly. If I worked in the neighborhood I'd get it for lunch on the regular!

I came here yesterday with the bf for brunch. The first thing I noticed was the bright yellow walls and the black and white striped ceiling. It reminded me of a circus and was slightly blinding at times when the sun shined through the lovely windows. I learned during those blinding moments that I personally prefer a more muted interior when dining. The second thing i noticed was the volume of the music. I was sitting about a foot and a half from my bf and was straining to hear him from across the table. I ordered a hot chocolate ( they use steamed milk, which is the only way to go) and while it was delicious, the tiny size was not worth the $4. As many others have stated on their reviews, the avocado toast was delicious. My order was served with grapefruit and radish on warm, fresh bread. I highly recommend it! I also ordered the soup of the day, which I wasn't too fond of. Our waitress described it as an Indian lentil soup, which I had (wrongly) assumed it to be full of flavor and spice. It was very watery and while I enjoyed the veggies and lentils, I was hoping for something more. My bf ordered the country style breakfast with scrambled eggs and bacon and had no complaints. In fact, he did state that the biscuit was the perfect amount of bread he wanted with his meal. Our waitress was friendly and pleasant. This place was okay, but there are better options in the fishtown/ no. libs neighborhoods.

This is one of our top few favorite brunch places in all of Philly! The food, service and ambiance are all top-notch. They have many unique dishes I've never seen before, such as the avocado toast, which is sublime. Their daily pastries are delicious as well. Especially if you live in or or near Fishtown, check it out! It's also BYOB and tipping is optional, which are both awesome features.

I was treated to dinner at Girard last evening for my birthday. My dear friend that made the reservation asked Chef Brian and co-owner Christian to "surprise us" with a random sampling of their best for the evening. While I was not part of the prior group Bob, my host has asked for them to do this "surprise us" thing before and was so delighted that he requested it once again. I am an adventurous guy where food is concerned so this concept gave me no pause. Well clearly Girard has no reservation about doing this and they started us off with Heirloom tomato gazpacho, so fresh and a glorious texture. Next came a blue crab crab cake. I regret that I didn't take notes on every layer of the dish and presentation but Bob who is an excellent cook looked at the plate and commented "That's the part I can't do". The presentation was beautiful and more than that it was true crab cake, not filler cake or breaded filing and a bit of crab, it was wonderfully seasoned crab meat. Next we had a (Heritage, I think) pork chop which was served with roasted mushrooms and quinoa salad. PERFECTION across the table. We finished with caramel and sea salt chocolate mouse and Neapolitan (their own) ice cream. That was without a doubt right there with the finest meals I have ever eaten and it was served in the heart of Fishtown. I have dined in twenty-eight countries and forty-nine states at some world class establishments. I am not overstating the stature of this meal. Let me also classify this as having been far superior to arrogant chain that suggest that they "sell the sizzle" and yet can't deliver on service or satisfaction. We have been to Girard on several other occasions for brunch, lunch specials and after dinner down the block at a friend's home for coffee and desert more than once. We have never been disappointed. The owner's have launched an ambitious business plan, a complex menu, an original interior and a lofty level of service. They have not waivered from their plan. Service is excellent, taste is paramount and consistent as with the quality of the ingredients. You can dine here for a relatively modest price up to the cost of very fine dining. At any level you choose to enjoy Girard you will receive a great value for your tender. This is a jewel in a constantly changing neighborhood. It sets the bar high for those that come along in the future. I read a very negative review in The Inquirer some time ago. While the reviewer may have felt he was "schooling" two young owners in their early days of building their restaurant I believe that they know what they set out to achieve and they deliver on it very well. Chef Brian, Christian, once again thank you for a wonderful evening.

Everything was perfect! Service, ambiance, choices, food - their standard must be excellence in all things! My only complaint is I was there on vacation and I don't have a Girards near me! What will I do without the veg croque Madame and the brownie with espresso chantilly cream?! If you are anywhere near run don't walk to this treasure!

I almost don't want to review this place, because it's right around the corner from me and apparently hasn't yet been descended upon by the brunch legions. But alas, praise is deserved. My girlfriend and I arrived at noon on a sunny and unusually warm February Sunday to find a small, brightly colored, yet half-empty restaurant. Our waiter was very polite and actually unusually formal for the neighborhood. He asked if we had a reservation. We did not, but were seated right away. I started with a cappuccino, the lady with a chai latte. My cappuccino was fantastic, the best I've had in Fishtown (I'll spare you my La Colombe rant). It was on par with Hub Bub and Parc. The chai latte was a bit mildly seasoned, it smelled better than it tasted. Wow, the menu was slightly intimidating. The French Toast has a scoop of coffee ice cream on it. Two smoked salmon breakfast dishes. There was a lot to take in, but fortunately I had a cappuccino to assist me. I eventually went with a Croque Monsieur with fried egg, and she chose poached eggs benedict topped with smoked salmon. Both were served as open-faced sandwiches with a side of homemade potato chips. The sandwiches were a bit difficult to hack into with the butter knives we were given. My sandwich was pretty much what I expected, which is fine by me. The chips were seasoned with herbs and caramelized onions which was a nice touch. I will say I prefer smoked salmon cold, and when served atop eggs benedict it is not. So I wasn't a big fan of the bite I stole from my girlfriend's dish. Why not, we ponied up for a raspberry tart dessert. It was large and seriously chocolatey. I don't regret it. Other tables near us had BYO champagne. The waiter kept bottles in the back on ice and was attentive to return with said bottle to refill drained glasses. I guess I must comment on the tipping thing. Tipping is not required but yet not discouraged. Honestly I like the idea but when you go against cultural convention in such an ambiguous way it's hard to know what to do. We enjoyed our meal and tipped 10% when I would ordinarily tip close to 20%. Did we overtip? Undertip? Who knows. Overall, a really nice Sunday brunch experience, and for the time being you don't have to wait an hour for a table.

Decided to check out this place after reading in an article about their "tipping is not necessary" policy. I went for brunch with my sister and we both loved it and declared it a definite "foodie" spot. We got the avocado toast, gin and dill lox, and a special crabmeat eggs Benedict. Everything was fantastic. Though it is a bit far from center city, I highly recommend making the trip.

Solid meal and an enjoyable night. Service was prompt, accommodating, and friendly. We ordered the foie gras, avocado toast, croque Monsieur, whole fish (special) and the duck salad. Maybe a bit too much bread with the foie gras (it's pre-spread on toast), so even though it was still tasty, I might choose something else to start, next time I go back. The duck salad was really delicious, and I would recommend it to others, and would order it again. Avocado toast and the whole fish ended up as clean plates. I look forward to returning.

Loved everything about it. Although it was the first night and the place was packed, the service was super friendly and efficient. Johnny, our Maitre' D, and Kristen, our server, were attentive and personable. We first enjoyed the cheese and charcuterie plate, with 3 selections of French cheese and 3 meats served with naked crostini stacked criss-crossed for a nice presentation. The first course was accompanied by a coarse mustard which went perfectly with the rest of the plate. Next we had the autumn soup which was hearty and yummy on a cold night, and the avocado toast, chilled avocado with honey and something slightly hot for a sweet and spicy sensation on whole wheat toast--this was especially awesome! For my entree, I ordered the lamb shank, which was a much larger portion than I imagined and was roasted to fall off the bone perfection. The actual space is kind of kitschy and hip, low key and relaxed, with the kitchen in plain view of the diners. I liked the fact that I didn't have to dress up to enjoy a meal every bit as good as The Fountain Room or some other stuffy overpriced place. A welcome addition to the burgeoning Fishtown restaurant scene, surely will be a winner.

There are a number of things factoring into this 2 star review. My boyfriend and I went on opening day for lunch around 2:00. We were greeted at a side door and sat immediately. Although our server was a little but awkward, he was kind and genuinely wanted us to have a nice time. We started with two cappuccinos that were decent, but small. We then each got a sandwich, mine was a croque madam and he got a burger. The food took over 20 minutes to be cooked and we were the only people in the restaurant. When I got my sandwich, I took a bit and the inside was cold. At first I thought that maybe it was supposed to be cold, but after asking our server, he informed us it was to be warm. They took it and back and reheated the same sandwich. 10 minutes later I get my heated up sandwich and it was just OK. No bad, not good, just forgettable. My boyfriend asked for his burger medium rare, but it came out well done. He was hungry and decided to eat it anyways, saying the bun it was on was good but the rest was just meh. We paid with a credit card and saw there was no line on the credit card slip to leave an additional tip. I work in the restaurant industry and DO NOT think $12/hr is a good, livable wage. Honestly, I think it's offensive that the owners of this place are trying to pride themselves on being "fair" to their employees, whenever it's clear they're simply using the "no need to tip" feature as a way to bring attention to a restaurant that is otherwise boring, forgettable and uncomfortably designed. I'm sure I'll stop by again in a couple month to see how things are going, but I would never recommend to a friend.

Just had brunch at Girard. Love the atmosphere and the vibe. Lots of energy and the servers were very friendly too. The eggs and sausage were really salty but the chips with caramelized onions were a winner. Be sure to ask the server for the specials in case they forget to tell you -- they did for us. Overall a good experience but not a great one. Worth coming back and giving them another shot at greatness.

We went here for dinner on their first night. The lambshank was very good, and the both desserts (pumpkin creme brulee and a chocolate fudge tart) were amazing. The only reason I am not giving four stars their vegetarian option (a vegetable tagine) was pretty lackluster and that made up half of our experience there. The staff and decor were great, and I look forward to trying it again.

Three of us went to check out this new place for brunch and we each had the eggs benedict; one styled with a cured salmon and the others with duck prosciutto. Both were plated very nicely and ingredients were high quality and delish. The sausage/meat ball accompaniment was made with lamb and the flavors were also very good! We ended our brunch by sharing the dark chocolate dulce de leche tart with chantilly cream and it was amazing but definitely larger than we expected so I'd consider this a shared dessert if you have it after a good meal. Our server, Nika, was warm and friendly, very knowledgeable and passionate about the food she was serving, which makes for an extra awesome experience! When an establishment serves Elixr coffee via french press you can pretty much assume that they know what they're doing, and these guys definitely do! Well done guys:)

food was good but did seem overpriced. I'd rather tip 20% or more than have the food price jacked up- maybe it's a mental thing. I ordered the avocado toast and before doing so asked if it was two pieces of toast or one because I was very hungry. The server said two. When I got it I thought that they had forgotten half because it was only one piece cut in half. It was delicious but wished it had been bigger. The signature potatoes on the other hand were delicious and the serving was HUGE. Definitely enough to share. The daily juice concoction was good but I thought it was juice and it came as a smoothie so they might want to spell that out better- could have been vitamixed juice but it was thick and I wanted a cup of thin juice. My friends both got the pre fix breakfasts with meat and raved about them. The server was very nice and attentive and funny too- we sat at the bar.

I'm excited to have a nicer casual eatery near my home. I had a good lunch on their first day open and Im sure they will only get better as time goes on. The space is bright and welcoming. Best of luck to Girard Brassier and hopefully many other restauranteurs will follow suit so Girard ave. will continue to blossom.

Great food with good selection of items. The staff is very friendly, knowledge and excited about the new establishment. We tried a lot of the dishes on thee menu and everything came out perfectly. I personally loved the avocado toast and the lamb. We also loved the mixed cocktails that was made from our own tequila. Ambiance was also nice but it could be spiced up with a touch of color or maybe few additional decor items. Overall, great addition to the Philadelphia food scene and planning to go back!

Great for brunch due to their byob options and their constantly changing menu. Every time I go I push myself to try something new and always like it. I recommend their chai, one of the best in the city, and their coffee. The charred grapefruit as a side is delicious and different!

Absolutely amazing! I tried the roast beef sandwich, the potato bacon soup, the avocado toast and a white peach tea. I wasn't sure what to think about this place initially, yes the decor is unusual, but the waitress was really nice, food was frankly exquisite and the tea was on them. I hope this place starts getting busy, I think every fishtown neighbo should go there

Amazing food and great serivce! The servers recommendations were spot on; I can't wait to come to go back to try what I didn't get to eat this time around!

My husband and I went there on New years eve and I have to say the food was delicious. We ordered 5 different things to try a bit of each but we ended up only taking part of the lamb shank home. Service was excellent until there was a mix up with the check, waited a half hour for it, and we weren't offered desert. I did have my coat on at this point because we were late for a party so maybe that's why. however if it was offered we might have stayed. overall a great new addition to Girard ave.
