If you like homemade pasta, this is the place to go. I had the linguini with meat sauce and added meatballs. It was very filling and had tons leftover to bring back home. The prices are so reasonable.

I grew up on this place and continue to come here 5 decades later, despite the ignorant creep who owns the joint. Great value, excellent portions, and delicious food. The servers are wonderful and very responsive. Only downside, is "Frank", who in my opinion, is a genuine a-hole and should be shipped back to Greece!

I've been to this place a few times. They say the pasta is fresh, but I can tell you that the manicotti or ravioli is not. It's cheap, OK food. You can always find a table. So if you are looking for an ok, cheap, quick meal this is your place.

Awesome selection of truly authentic Italian food here in Northeast Philadelphia. this restaurant gets five stars all around, from portion sizes to staff. everything was wonderful we came here for my grandfather's 78th birthday and we were not let down. they had a great selection of food to fit everybody specific tastes. and good lord they're dessert I highly recommend the cherry cheesecake it is absolutely phenomenal. it's like heaven and creamy cheesy cherry way. I could die and I'd be happy after eating that cake. it is very small there but it has a homey feeling definitely worth it. the prices are about average with the chicken parm platter being about $11. but damn, is the price worth the portions. their sauces are not overly acidic so people who suffer from heartburn like myself can walk away feeling satisfied and comfortable knowing that they will not have to take an entire bottle of tums by the end of the night.

Food was really good. Fresh homemade pasta and ravioli. Price's were great too. 3 entrees, a kids meal, a glass of wine and desserts and our bill was less than $60. The atmosphere was so-so. As casual as it gets and local pop radio station playing too loudly. All in all worth the trip and we will definitely be back.

Comfort food in a sweetly planned space with attentive waitstaff and fast service. A bill for 2 people, no alcohol, was $18. They also make a ton of accommodations for my grandmother that keeps us coming back, which is why I tend to bring her here a lot. No matter how busy these guys get, there's always someone helping me get her to the car.

I will never go back to this place. Should have known to stay away when we pulled up on a friday night and the place was almost empty. They say their pasta is fresh, LIE, the linguine wasn't fresh and neither was my daughter's ravioli. The meatballs were tasteless and just fell apart and the mere touch with a fork. If any restaurant should call Robert Irvine, it should be this one. It was cheap though, not that cheap is always a good thing. The wait staff stood around talking amongst themselves, because there weren't enough customers in the place to have that many people waiting tables. I would avoid this place for now, go after they appear on Restaurant impossible.

I have to say, there are few places that I've never had a bad meal. Frank's is one of them. A landmark in the NE for sure that I've been going to. Definitely comfort food with reasonable prices. Yep, the decor, a bit dated, but as a local goto spot, I'm never disappointed. I always get a vibe that they're about to do some exterior modernization, but I've been getting that vibe for years. It's irrelevant! Take out has always been super convenient with my orders always on point! Food is consistent and tasty with generous portions, soup/salad and plenty of bread. Chick Parm, Marsala and Cacciatore are my top suggestions.

I took my Mom to Frank's for her birthday and we both walked away extremely disappointed, certainly never to return. We started with soup. Mom ordered the minestrone which she said was terrible. I ordered the chicken noodle which was ok,, but nothing to write home about. For the main meal, I ordered the grilled shrimp. They were not bad, just blah -- no spices, just bland shrimp. Mom ordered penne with garlic. She said it was OK, but did not have enough garlic. We asked the waitress for some garlic, and she said "olive oil, ok." When we reiterated garlic, she said "garlic oil" and ran back into the kitchen. When she came out I called her over to the table and told her that my mom wanted fresh garlic, not garlic oil. She said she was not sure if they had any but that she would check. She came back with minced garlic in oil, stating that was all they had. When my mom asked if they had fresh chopped garlic, she responded that the cook would have to chop up a fresh garlic clove but that there would be a wait because he was cooking. This is crazy for an italian restaurant to not have fresh chopped garlic on hand. My mom had to settle for the minced garlic in oil. I should mention that while prompt service is always appreciated, the entrees were brought out too quickly, while we were still eating the soup. After that point, however, service was not very prompt. Neither of us had dessert as nothing they had appealed to either of us. Now to the part that really pissed me off. Frank's has a 10% off coupon on their very own website. Rather than print the coupon, I simply showed it to the cashier on my Kindle Fire HDX. She went to consult with the boss who told me I had to print the coupon. He then asked me where I found the coupon. I replied that it was on HIS website. He again stated that I need to print it. I told him that most places these days allow you to show coupons electronically. He said, "we don't have a computer." I am not sure what that had to do with anything. I would understand if I found the coupon on some obscure website, but this was on his very own site. Why put out a coupon that you have no intention on honoring. I was not going to bother to argue with him. Afterall, it was only a few dollars but it was also extremely poor business on his part and I certainly would not return there due to this as well as the quality of the food. I would certainly not recommend this restaurant to anyone, nor would I return.

For a real NE landmark Franks is still one of the best around for the money. It us rare that a restaurant stays the same it is a safe bet for an outstanding meal!

I do not and never will understand the hype this place gets. It's run of the mill Italian food that they seem to make in bulk and freeze. I orders stuffed shells that came out with more water on top than sauce. Yuck! Never going back and I do not recommend this place to anyone!

A Northeast staple for many years. Our first time there. Was good. About what I expected actually. Decent prices and quantity.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
