I came here for dinner with a group of 10 girls for a bachelorette party and we really enjoyed it! Finding a good BYOB for a larger group can be hard and we were super happy with this one. They had the tables all set up and ready to go when we arrived and were quick to recommend what drink mixes we might like. We went with the mango mojito/rum combo and the spicy tamarind margarita/tequila and both were really good. The spicy one was just spicy enough to have a kick, but still be refreshing. The food was delicious, but more than I could eat. However, they only give you three arepas, but twice as much meat/beans to stuff it with. None of us were able to finish our meal and it would have been a better move to split the meal for two and request an extra 3 arepas. The restaurant closed at 11 and we were one of the last tables in there and the staff was super friendly even though we were getting noisy at times. The waitress was efficient and was chatting with me about the upcoming wedding. The owner came in at the end and introduced herself. It's in a great location, close to the bars on South Street, as well as walkable from Old City where we were headed out. The price was pretty good (maybe a couple of dollars more than ideal) and I would definitely go back.

Viva la Arepas! If you are uncertain what an arepa is , it is a flatbread made of ground maize dough. Maize is better known as corn , and the way Delicias perfects this masterpiece it is truely one of a kind. It is the Latin version of a "Hot Pocket" , but a thousands times better, fresher, full of flavors , pretty much down right amazing. One of the main reasons why we came in here was because we had enjoyed their La Robinita at a Night Market event. Along with their cozy home like atmosphere as you walk through their doors, Delicias also brought their Latin flavor to the streets. Delicias is a place where they make you feel like its a family dinner. The owner of this fine esblishment, she makes sure you are well accommodated, like you are a part of her family. Thats what I / we experienced. I wish I wrote down her name, because I have met her 3 times and it still escapes my memory, so I will call her "El Jefa" !(boss lady in Spanish) The Goods, lets dive into this like a kid to a pinata on their birthday! We started off with an order of Empanadas in Beef and Salmon. Why not mix it up a little , a surf and turf edition we'll say. They were good, myslef I enjoyed the Salmon one, I know the carnivore in me had taken a back seat for the moment. Don't get me wrong they both were great, but the Salmon was AMAZEballs. Great flavors, the mixture of herbs and spices. Now to the main course, the homerun, this is where the pinata blew up, the entrée. I had gone with the Masistas deCerdo. What I am about to describe to you is simply mouth watering. The carnivore has returned with a garlic marinated grilled pork served on a skillet with a homemade guacamole was my dish of choice. This sizzling skillet with the freshly made Arepas (3) waiting to be stuffed , I was doing a shimmy, a little dance everytime I was filling in the Arepa. The texture alone I can not describe as my taste buds were going into an overload. The aroma, the spices and herbs , the freshness of it all dancing around. I feel only one word, well there are several that can be said , but only descibes this is DELICIOUS! Delicias is on point with everything , from family type atmosphere, to the Latin flavor you will be treated to . It is also a BYOB so bring that wine you love, or some Dos Equis and prepare for a treat.

What a find! What started as a food truck on PENNs campus is now a 25 seat restaurant just off South Street. Never had an arepa before but these amazing little pita pocket type bread slices you can stuff yourself with the most amazingly seasoned meat or veggies. And the sweet plantains are the perfect balance along with the black beans. Get the Seafood soup of the day made with shrimp. It comes in a cast iron bowl with enough for two. We couldn't believe it was an appetizer. Thanks to the owner who walked right up to us and explained the menu. Finally, ask for their fresh squeezed juices of the day. Amazing experience.

Went for Valentines' Day. Perfect. Food was outstanding, although, one of the entrees was unreasonably priced (the shrimp). Other than that, a real gem. Lots of food. The pork was legit. Guacamole that comes with nearly everything was pretty good as well. Note- they don't advertise the price of the mixers for your drinks, so beware of the charge ($15 for a margarita pitcher--not too bad).

Delicias was...delicious. Reasons this was a great spot to host my sister's birthday dinner: 1. BYO tequila for their tamarind jalapeño marg mix (so good with quite a kick!) 2. BYO rum for their mango mojito mix! Very sweet and masks alcohol a bit too well... 3. They took a table for 12 reservation on opentable with only a week's notice. 4. Free side with yelp check in! Get the guac. 5. Cute atmosphere and close to a lot of bars. 6. Didn't get too crowded so we could be as loud as we wanted... Although there was a table who asked to move further away from us because we were loud so... Oops. 7. The arepas come with so much food! (And are gluten-free.) Recommend the pork (comes with guac) and the chorizo). 8. So the chorizo comes in an adorable little pig that they light on fire. So that's awesome. 9. The specials were great- my sister really liked the mofongo with shrimp and I loved my rib eye steak (and it was massive). 10. They brought out churros with chocolate caramel dipping sauce on the house with candles in them! And played the minions version of happy birthday... So they basically win at birthdays. Service was a bit slow but we were a big group and they were very accommodating (even brought out some lemons (no limes) for us to finish our tequila with a few rounds of shots...) They ran out of a few of the specials which was a shame. Yucca fries were meh, but maybe I just don't live yucca. Entrees were a bit pricey (around $20 range). We all paid $40 which covered tax, tip, 4 pitchers of mixers, appetizers, an entree, and the birthday girl. We left full and drunk and happy. Definitely recommend for a fun dinner out, and goods food. Now that Lolita's is no longer BYOT this fills the void in my margarita craving yet also cheap life.

Love their arepas! Coming from California where latin food is everywhere, I have a high bar. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday, and while the restaurant was small, they accommodated us well. Bring your own TEQUILA! They have amazing mixers and these are not to be missed. I gave up tequila a long time ago, but I couldn't help myself with their amazing mixers. We had a big party so we pretty much tried everything on the menu. I would say that their Yuca fries were definitely memorable. I had the arepa / pork plate since I'm partial to pork, but I tried the other plates and they were delicious. I wished I discovered this earlier, I would've gone more often before leaving Philadelphia.

I was very excited to try this place but it was a bit disappointing. It's not terrible but you can do much better. The physical place is fine and the service is fine as well. For one the food is pretty limited - as far as entrees go, you are limited to picking filling for an arepas meal. I tried both the beef and the vegetarian, they were 'ok' but short of good. What essentially kills the place for me is the price, it's rather pricey for what they offer and will likely leave you unsatisfied for the cost.

Came here with my wife looking for some good Latin American food in Philly. Didn't disappoint!! Food was very well prepared... I had the Masitas de Cerdo and my wife had the La Robinita. Both DELICIOSO!! Our server was very nice and made sure we had an exceptional experience. Even the owner came out to greet us and checked up on us which I thought was great!! Highly recommend!!

I've always loved the Delicias food truck so I was overjoyed to see that they opened up a restaurant. My guy and I ordered the Yuca Fries as an appetizer and they were delicious! As entrees we ordered the La Robinita and El Pabellon. Both plates were outstanding! The portions were very filling and the drinks were well made. When we went the establishment had only been open for about 2 weeks and there was only one staff member on the floor. You could tell that he got a little overwhelmed when the restaurant started to fill up so I hope that they added a few employees since than. Other than that, Delicias will always be one of my favorites! Oh and it's a BYOB so don't forget some Tequila!

I'm a big fan of the Philly Delicias food truck on the Penn campus. It's the only truck that purports to have authentic Venezuelan food. The original owner, a Venezuelan woman of Chinese descent, made some incredible arepa sandwiches. Not long ago, the truck and its business was sold to a new owner who continued the tradition of serving the same food and maintaining its high quality. Because the truck has done so well, it befuddles me why the restaurant serves basically the same food for higher prices. Shouldn't a restaurant give a chef an opportunity to really shine at his or her craft? The Pabellon, marinated flank steak served with black beans, cotija cheese, and plantains, tasted exactly like the food truck version. By itself, the steak was chewy, stringy, and tough. About the only thing saving it was the broth it was sitting in. Combined with the beans and plantains, the toughness of the meat is masked, just like the food truck pabellon sandwiches. I will say that the beans and plantains are nicely done and the arepas and empanadas are very good. We ordered a beef and a fish empanada. The beef one contained the same tough pabellon meat. The fish, a salmon and vegetable mixture, was actually quite excellent. The restaurant itself is located in the old 5N2 sushi restaurant space. I know this because the layout of the restaurant is the same and the old pair of pants that serves as a curious decoration still adorns the right wall. I feel that Delicias is still new and searching for its identity. There is no question that the food is good, not great, so now the owners need to create dishes that will take their restaurant to the next level.

We tried this place on Friday, which were told, was still within the 2 week soft opening period. From the outside, Delicia's looks hidden amongst a row of random stores that don't fit together. Although that is the charm of South St. However, once inside, the decor is warm, cozy and inviting with exposed bricks and a pair of sweat pants on the wall. Some of the things I wanted to try on the menu were not available such as the seafood soup. But it is the soft opening weeks so it's cool. We had empanadas, Pollo Fricase, and Masitas De Cerdo (grilled pork). The empanadas were very good. Nice and cripsy/chewy shell without being greasy. The beef was more flavorful than the chicken one. While the Pollo Fricase was good, I really enjoyed the grilled pork entree. Both dishes came out plated nicely with sides, accompanied with warm delicious arepas. The owner (Delicia?) came out to introduce herself and see how we were doing. That was nice. I wish her much success and plan on coming back soon.

Short Take - This is a rare find and worth seeking out, especially if you are in the South Street area. It's on 4th, just North of South St and easy to miss if you didn't know that you were looking for it. Very flavorful Latin American cooking with an excellent staff. Skip the chain-fair idea of Tex-Mex and seek out great cooking, your stomach and wallet will thank you. BYOB Long View - Needed a quick bite before an Open Mic nite at Dobbs. I was around 7:30pm on a cold WED night. The place was empty but they had a lot of take out orders going. The waiter was very friendly and accommodating since one in our party had food allergies. He took time to double check with the Chef's on preparation and even check some labels for us. Then patiently went through the menu with our guest to explain which items had the ingredient that she could not tolerate. The meals were excellent and the blends of spices, while Latino, were definitely different enough to ask the origin. We were told Venezuelan with an influence from Puerto Rico. The Arepas were incredible (corn patty). We never had anything like this before. We will definitely be back for more.

Just happened to try this place out by chance. We were in the mood for Latin food and my husband said he knew a few people who worked here so we decided to check it out. It's a pretty small place so if you're looking to come with a group, make reservations in advance. It was just the two of us so it worked out. We had the yucca fries and the house made chips with the pico de gallo. Probably the best yucca fries I've ever had, but what made them even more memorable was the garlic sauce they served with them. Most places serve them with a sweet sauce so it was a nice treat to try it a different way. The chips were also very good. Each meal is served with three arepas and fillings. I think this is what makes this restaurant pretty cool. I got the vegetarian dish and my husband got one of the chicken dishes. I didn't expect the vegetarian dish to be great because I don't really think Latin food is meant to have vegetarian options but I was pleasantly surprised. The vegetables were well seasoned and cooked and the beans and guacamole served as excellent fillings for the arepas. My husband's family is South American and I would say these arepas were on par with what I've had at their house. Very good! A lot of folks complained about the price of this restaurant but if you consider how much food you get (appetizer, entree with THREE arepas plus filling) it's a lot of food. A LOT. I have lunch for the next two days. So I think the price is reasonable considering that.

I came here on Sunday night for a birthday dinner (for me, just a few months late.) I had a hard time picking a place, but I decided on Delicias, and I'm so glad that I did. We checked in and got a free side. We ordered the tostones. They were perfectly made. Definitely order them. (Most of your meals will come with guac anyway). We got yuca fries too, which were good. We took tequila which they put in their margarita mix. They had some kind of coconut kind, which was unusual and delicious. The meals are huge. You get three arepas to fill. They are sort of like little pitas made from corn flour. Or fat corn tortillas (think gorditas) that a cut so there's a pocket. Then, you pick the meat (or the veg option), which come with various sides. I ordered the masitas de cerdo which were perfect. It came with onions, guac, and salsa. The meat was so good, I was eating it cold out of my takeout container the next morning! I definitely want to come back here! They are also on grubhub, which I will definitely take advantage of!

First time having arepas and happy it was here. The corn tortillas were thick and scrumptious. We got the pollo fricase, which was Spanish styled stew chicken with black beans and fried plaintains, and mofongo which was shrimp in what I think was a mango habanero sauce but could be wrong. The sauce of the latter was a nice mix of sweet and tangy. If you like your empanadas deep deep deep fried then recommend them as well. Arriba Arriba.
