The people making the Blizzards here are friendly and get the job done pretty efficiently and quickly. Not much else to say here - if you're in the mood for something cold, creamy, and calorie-laden, feel free to stop by!

I had a Blizzard here today and found them to be extremely friendly and quick. This was in the midst of a very busy day and yet, they kept their cool in serving frozen treats to tourists and Philadelphians alike. As with all DQs, avoid the food. But, there's nothing like their ice cream.

Our favorite DQ! My husband and I are regulars here. This place does a great job, every time. It is located in the heart of the tourist part of the city, so the line is often long in the summer time. Even though they stay busy, the employees move the line quickly without compromising the quality of their tasty treats. The owner is really great and makes a mean blizzard, always served upside down! :)

I like my ice cream without a side of implicit racism. Extremely disappointed to get a phone call from a friend who stood waiting for service for 10+ minutes while NO ONE else was in the store. She told them several times that she was ready and they all just seemed to act like they were doing something else. Finally, a white family walked in and they were taken right away. This is horrible customer service and I am extremely disappointed in the employees of this Dairy Queen. I will never go here again. There are plenty of other better ice cream places in the area where myself and my friends can be served and treated respectfully.

This was my first time at a Dairy Queen and I would move to Philly for this place. They make an awesome Peanut Butter chocolate shake. I would definitely be 500 lbs easy if I moved to Philly. I'd be waddling here every day and the only exercise I would get would be lifting the shake to my mouth.

Only 2 people working during the lunch rush! Waited 15 min in line. Everything is microwaved instead of being cooked fresh like the other locations. No burgers or fries even though it's listed on the website! Even microwaved a chicken sandwich with mayo! Yuck!

I feel bad giving a DQ such a low rating considering my ice cream addiction, but its hard not to when you have such an awkward experience. Stopped in around 3pm on a rainy Friday after visiting the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. We were the only people inside. There was a woman at the front counter who was chatting on her cell phone and didn't acknowledge us for a good amount of time as we sat there, and an older gentleman sitting on a small bar stool behind the counter just watching us with his arms crossed. The woman paused talking on her cell phone, pulled the phone away from her ear, asked what we wanted and then called to an employee in the back to come and help us. She then disappeared for our entire trip as she walked into the back and continued her phone conversation. A young kid came out from the kitchen area to help us, and interaction was short and brief. As soon as the kid came up to help us, the older man sitting on the bar stool staring at us hopped up immediately and was hovering over the kid, watching every single move he made. Literally every. single. move. The employee was obviously uncomfortable, but made it seem as if this happened a lot and was normal. The man watching him followed him like a sad puppy throughout our whole experience, from the time he grabbed two blizzard cups to the time he gave us our change. If that's not micromanaging I don't know what is. The most awkward thing about it was that he never acknowledged us, welcomed us, or said thank you. Being that he's (I'm assuming) either the store manager or business owner, you would expect some sort of gratitude to customers. But no. Additionally, the blizzard cups were filled about 3/4 of the way full and were skimpy on the mix-ins, which to me seems like a nickel and dime money saving tactic. Like, is it really worth it? Not impressed, by a long shot. Sorry DQ.

Went there today around 12:30. There was a line and only one person working but he was GREAT ! Very efficient and friendly to everyone. He made the best blizzards. Sure didn't skimp on anything. The Jurrasic Park Blizzard is so so good. Great experience !!!

I was injured while spending the evening Philadelphia and many of the local pharmacies were closed. I stopped in to Dairy Queen and had the pleasure of meeting Carl. He was genuinely concerned about my well being and even gave me a bag of ice. I cannot thank him enough for coming to the rescue when I needed him most!

I had the most incredible experience of excellent customer service offered by the manager of the Dairy Queen on Chestnut St. Harshal Patel went way beyond the call of duty to help me organize the perfect birthday cake for my 3 year old granddaughter! She was delighted and will be talking about her party and cake for a long time! I have been amazed at his desire to please me and making sure that I was happy. Mr Patel you exceeded every one of my expectations and you have a new very loyal customer! Thanks again for all your help.

This is the WORST DQ in the history of the universe. They have "forgotten" our ice cream cake for birthdays in our office TWICE in just a few months, with no apologies and a mere $3 discount offered for the second time they forgot. Their excuse? They were "busy". Excuse me, it's late October (not prime ice cream season) and I was the ONLY CUSTOMER in the store as they tried to give me this bs answer. This sloppiness basically ruined the surprise we were trying to give our coworkers for their birthdays. Do NOT patronize this business! Unprofessional to the highest degree.

  • Denise B.

A huge "THANK YOU" to Hershel at the DQ on Chestnut St. who, when I arrived to pick up the ice cream cake I had ordered for my grandson's birthday, told me that it was not thoroughly frozen and I could not take it without it thawing. He said he had a transit pass and would be happy to drop it off at my office when the store closed. And he did - in freezing rain with streets and sidewalks treacherously icy. What an amazing act of kindness!

It's Dairy Queen. You like it or you don't. I and a group of 4 went the day before July 4, and it was pulsing with sweaty tourists and their sweaty touring children...but I still got my turtle fudge blizzard. And a cup of water. Then we sat outside at one of their cast-iron outdoor tables. What more are you asking for? Oh, shut it.

worst dairy queen ever!!! The employees always have a attitude when you order something besides ice cream. Also you will probably never be able to get anything besides ice cream. every time i went inside to order food they gave me an excuse that they were only serving ice cream. this has also happened to my coworkers. they also close at 9 but like to close early and have removed the hours sign from the window so nobody can call them out on it. i used to love dq but this location has ruined it for me.

After being a tourist (for a day, for fun) I needed something sweet.. Was coming across DQ when I saw their capturing photo outside, sweet-tooth was calling me! Loved the man who took my order, he basically said I'll give you whatever mix you want, wanted vanilla plus plus (very picky with what I want) amd for that, ching-ching $4.00 only... Gotta be charming to get your sweets right, right? :) I sure got mine! More caramel, fudge and whip cream + almonds nuts. All the best for a Wednesday walk around the Historical-part of Philly! :)

The service and attention to quality was really unbelievable here - I really wasn't expecting much, except a great -tasting vanilla cone. While you wait in this location very close to all the historic places, you can look at a lot of old Dairy Queen pictures and history on the wall... they set it up that way, and it almost seems like a mini(very very) museum in itself. I don't know if all DQ's are like this... While waiting, I saw a lot of people of all ages coming in for various treats - seems like a lot of adults order the ice cream and the kids come in to eat burgers and fries and soda... lots of adults ordering mini-blizzards. Anyway, the ice cream was super-dense, watery and not what I was expecting. It was refreshing on a warm almost spring day, but I think I will not be returning soon because the taste also was so bland. But a super clean location, super neat and great service with a smile.

Very close to the Liberty Bell, this was a welcome sight on the hot humid day we chose to be in the area. I just went in to grab a bottle of water, but ended up getting a hot dog as well. It was clean in here and not crowded, service was good.

Although the treats here are delicious the staff is clueless and they are often out of key items/ingredients. A few experiences I have had with this location: -Went in on a Sunday afternoon and the store was completely empty except for 1 employee, tried to order a blizzard and was told by the employee that he was 'locked out' of the register and couldn't ring up my purchase until his manager got back....but he didnt know where his manager was or when he was getting back -tried to order a hot dog on a different occassion and the employee told me they didnt have any hot dog buns -attempted to go there during the week and the store was closed (found out later that their water heater had broken or something) -went in last week and saw a sign on the door for the waffle bowl sundaes - attempted to order - was told by the employee that they 'don't even bother' with the waffle bowels -saw an advertisement on TV today about the mini-blizzards being on special for 1.99 in april, called this location and they stated that they had never head of that special I am officially DONE patronizing this establishment because you can never get what you want.

The most wonderful...ah. Strawberry Cheesequake Blizzard with Chocolate Soft Serve and Chocolate Sauce is absolutely to DIE for! I know it sounds funky, but it is just what the doctor ordered for me...actually, it isn't, because it is loaded with calories and fat, but I get a kid one and eat it anyways. It's a wonderful treat on occasion. Yum!!!

This Dairy Queen is new and is close to Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and my apartment! The layout of the counter is a little odd, and if there is a long line it gets congested at the pick-up portion of the counter. Because it is new, the staff has not found their groove and don't really function as a cohesive unit... But that will come in time! The best thing, you can get your ice cream and go sit in the park behind Independence Hall and enjoy a nice day and good ice cream!

True story...over the summer i went in here with my husband to get a blizzard. I ordered a mint chocolate chip blizzard w chocolate ice cream. The guy working says to me rudely ' and what if i DONT HAVE CHOCOLATE' i was so taken aback i just said 'ummmm ok then i guess ill have vanilla' then he goes on this tirade about how ALL people want chocolate ice cream after 6pm. i just wanted my blizzard. So he's making it and asks me if i want fudge. I tell him no and he continues making it. He hands it to me and takes my husband's order. Once he's done making his, the guy working starts asking my husband if he plays halo. Then he goes on and on about how he cant believe my husband doesn't play video games. Then he asks him if he's seen some movie and then is appalled bc my husband said no. This wouldve continued for god knows how long had it not been for more innocent customers waiting. (Wonder if they got yelled at for ordering chocolate ice cream post 6pm) Oh and they dont have hard ice cream. Wtf kind of dairy queen is this? And while i was waiting and eating my blizzard, i discovered it had hot fudge. At least i got chocolate ice cream.

This is the only Dairy Queen that I am aware of in downtown Philadelphia. I live in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood and walk to 6th and Chestnut Streets to satisfy my sweet tooth: The Blizzard is my favorite! Herschel is the manager--and maybe the owner--at this location. He is a friendly guy who is always willing to accommodate the customer. Look for Herschel and say hi when you visit. I would highly recommend visiting this DQ, purchase a tasty treat, and take a walk around the historical area, Society Hill and Old City. What could be better on a warm summer evening or any other day of the year? Enjoy!
