Crown Fried is not the patron saint of urban fried chicken spots. I will not pretend it is leagues better than KFC, Popeyes', Bojangles, or your local joint. It is one very important thing, however: Reliable. Boasting an exhausting menu of chicken, burgers, fried white fish, and grease-drench sides, Crown Fried Chicken is guaranteed to have what you need to settle your alcohol-laden stomach. Open into the wee hours of the morning, I very rarely crave anything different after a night out.

Finally got CFC what whaaat Chicken - well flavored/seasoned, crispy, yummy. Better than Gold Star imo Mac and Cheese - fail. just tasted like butter... Onion rings - standard.. Prices - expensive compared to Gold Star. They got 10 pieces + 2 sides for 10.79.. ours was $17.00.

This chicken breast that they sell was fried to perfection and the sweet potato pie was delicious.. Very cheap eat!!! They can keep that nasty biscuit tho loll......

This place has the best fried chicken - salty, but amazing fresh out of the fryer. The biscuits are lacklustre, but fresh pieces of thighs are the best. Open super late on Fridays and Saturdays - makes for a tasty snack on the way out of the subway. They can also do special halal orders.

Being from out of town, I walked up to the counter and was amazed at the selection of items available! I then simply asked what he suggested... he suggested the cheese steak. Turned out to be a good choice! The sandwich was a little greasy, but very, very good!

the 40th and Market CFC is my jam, yo. Especially ever since they upgraded their biscuits. I swear, the old ones had some kind of a sad, glazed muffin thing going on. The new biscuits are flakey, buttery, and probably full of MSG, which as we all know makes things awesome, and people who think otherwise were influenced by a bullshit study that doesn't exist. For those of you not in the know, Crown can loosely be considered a chain. But, your experience with Crown will vary VASTLY depending on what location you go to. My litmus for whether I'm going to enjoy my Crown experience is whether the person working there is cracking jokes and smiling. 40th and Market has got you covered. Plus, the hood has gotten nice enough that the bullet proof glass you see at most other Crowns doesn't seem necessary to them. Anyway, the guys who work the counter here are really chill for having to deal with last call BS that makes most other joints around the city (hello unnamed steak places in South Philly and late night fast food chains) look completely outmatched. I don't know their names, but they're always smiling, always polite, and everyone who walks into the place likes them. You know why? Cause their chicken's the shit. Get a "picnic box." That's 6 pieces with 2 sides and 2 biscuits. Get the dirty rice (rice and beans with spices), and collard greens, or mac and cheese. Shoot, even the Jamaican beef patties, though clearly not made in-store, are full of meaty goodness. Take it home, eat it all while watching reruns of Futurama, and pass out upstairs. Other things that kick ass on their menu include their chicken sandwiches, their wings, and Hershey's ice cream - unless the sign is lying. Those are some sweet, sweet lies. 40th and Market is the king of kings when it comes to late night, regret-free fried chicken. I have happily gotten this food sober. I tend to get it while drunk. Don't worry though - it's great while sober, so after 10 beers or so, it's all six of the bee's knees.

Amazing fried chicken! Good prices and the people here are always nice. The area is a bit sketchy at night though.

While I used to be sketched out by the interior, chicken that looks like it's been sitting under a hot light for hours, and mysterious looking mac-and-cheese, this place is probably my new favorite late-night munchies stop. I came here with a bunch of friends after a long night of karaoke and it was the tastiest things in the world. Given I might have been a little drunk, it hit the spot, was affordable, and completely changed my view on the place. While I won't venture there every weekend, I know Crown Fried is right around the corner to satisfy my fried chicken cravings. Tip: bring friends and get a box!

So, I haven't been to this place in a while, but I still decided to Yelp it because I came up on it randomly. This place is located just right outside the EL station, and it stays open pretty late. So if you're ever coming from a run from a movie and are looking for a quick bite so you can get on the train, you'll be happy to know this is here. It's fried chicken, what can you expect? I got the chicken fingers-nothing I'd crave, but they still were hot and tasty. The interior is a little dingy, but I really don't worry about that since this is U-City. Lol, the clerk kept making fun of me and my friend for being fat. It was really funny and we laughed our asses off.

If I could only get fried chicken from one place for the rest of my life, Crown Fried would definitely be the place to go. I've never been to a place that can so consistently nail a crispy outside and a tender inside. Dark or white, thigh or breast, the breading is always consistently thin (yet substantial), the meat is always juicy, never greasy, and the skin on the chicken is always done perfectly (it's worth eating every time). Shame on my stomach for not being able to eat more than 5 pieces at once! I've had CFC at larger-scale events and have picked up a 5-piece combo box as late-night snacks. Either way, the quality is always consistent, and the sides are classics that you can never go wrong with. The collared greens are a personal favorite. It's a little sketchy around 40th and Market, but a to-go box from here is definitely worth your while.

Hands down the best fried chicken I have ever had that is sold from a store, and almost as good as the chicken my friends' grandmothers back home in Georgia make!! The skin and breading are perfectly crispy and not too greasy, and the meat itself still manages to stay tender. MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE CHICKEN IS THE LEAST GREASY YET MOST DELICIOUS FRIED CHICKEN YOU WILL EVER GET!!!! I can eat 5 pieces and still not feel (too) guilty! I always order $100 or so worth of chicken from here for school events, and the generous portions and quality are always consistent. Definitely get a box of breast, biscuit, and hot sauce next time you're craving junk food! The interior and places around it may look a little sketchy, but just get a box to go and you're good!

The neighborhood is a bit shady and the shop looks rough, but I like the food for some reason. Their sell is "soul food" -- most people come here for the 5-,10-, or 20-piece chicken meal w sides of collard greens, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese. The sandwiches are my thing. The chicken is always freshly fried and tastes surprisingly like real chicken, especially considering that it's a deal ($3.50), and topped with fresh lettuce and a dash of mayo and hot sauce. The thighs, breasts, and drumsticks are fried with a spicy, seasoned batter which is slightly oily but very satisfying. They also have chicken fingers and tilapia, in case you feel like something fancy.

The Good: Crisp, juicy, tender battered and deep-fried chicken! Crown does it right. Perfect for a meal when you're tired of rabbit food from Sweetgreen and HipCity Veg, or for a regretful nighttime snacking fest. The Bad: The sides are lacking in flavor and texture, but I can't figure out why anybody would want to eat smushed baby food, chunky plastic noodles, or overcooked, wilted blobs anyways. Go for the chicken! The Ugly: A stuporous old homeless man wandered in while we were waiting for our food. The man behind the counter piqued up and yelled, "This is CROWN Fried Chicken, not CRAZY Fried Chicken!" Gotta love Philly.
