So the place is in the cut! When I reach there, there was a nice atmosphere. It really is a hole in the wall until you walk inand even then it's not spectacular. The food was already prepared and the time that they give you the food is pretty fast. However, the portion sizes for the amount of money that they want is absolutely ridiculous. Going on the recommendation from my aunt, I thought this was going to be The best barbecue in North Philly...boy was I wrong! The cornbread was dryer than the Sahara desert......the cabbage had NNNOOOOOO seasoning. The Mac.... Was ok... But it wasn't good enough to be charging $5for a medium side!!!! My rule of thumb is "I'm paying you to do what I can cook or better".... My plate was $13 and it wasn't good- on top of the attitude from the owner...who was so arrogant...(ok you own a hole in the wall in the hood) never again! Neverrrrr!

Heard about this place from family members so decided to give it a try. I was not impressed. I got the pork rib platter with potato salad and greens. Everything was very mediocre. Had to "doctor up" everything with more seasoning to give it flavor. We paid $46 for 2 pork rib platters and 1 BBQ chicken breast platter (platters come with 2 sides). We also got an extra side of potato salad. I probably won't be going back. It's just not worth the money :-(

The place is awesome. People are friendly and the food is awesome. Location is a little rough and the place is small. The food and the price makes this place awesome.

This is another rest. in a bad section of town and no parking lot. What's up with Philly and parking spaces???? I paid $21 here for ribs, collards, potato salad and cornbread. They made me pay extra for mac n cheese because they don't allow it as a side option. The sides and cornbread were all ok, but I did not like the ribs. They weren't quality ribs and were too mushy. The young girl running the counter had an attitude problem but she was very detail oriented. They do have a buffet style going and the food looked pretty tasty though excessively greasy. I might stop here again if I were in that area otherwise, it's not worth the long drive I made just for home style southern cooking.

I've been going to Charlie's for a number of years. The food is good and sometimes very good. There were a few times when the greens were too sweet or they didn't put enough sauce on their expensive ribs. Goodness gracious, the ribs are good but not that good. The portions are small, even for a person like myself that never eats all of my food in one sitting...no leftovers here. With all that being said, I truly do not come here for great customer service. Charlie's wife is okay sometimes, but that chick with the short, blonde, hair will make Jesus lose his religion. Miss Thing, seriously, it won't kill you to be a little more nicer. If being nice to the customers is that difficult, do us all a favor and quit! On the other hand, the lady in the kitchen that cooks and preps is a sweetheart along with Charlie and the rest of the kitchen staff.

I like it. I've only had fried whiting, greens and potato salad. I order the same thing every time. My family has tried other platters and they like it too. So Yummy

I like Charlie's but it is a hit or miss. I've been going here off and on through out the years. Every visit is a different experience and it can get pricey. Let me start by saying the sweet potato pie is really good. That is the one constant I can give (if they have some left that day). The rest of the food and the service is another story. For starters when the food is good...it's really good. When it's not it's really not. Then there is the wait time and the rude staff. Depending on who's grandchild is behind the counter you may get a pleasant young person or a crabby teen who really don't want to be there anyway. (A word to the wise...don't force little Shane-qua to work in order to teach her responsibility. It's bad for business.)

I visited this place a few weeks back because of work. When I stepped in, I was instantly greeted with a huge smile and a big hello. This place was so welcoming; I would have recommended it even before I tasted the food, which was pretty good. They serve typical Southern fare: ribs, chicken, greens, pound cake, etc; I only tried the chicken wings and the cake and I recommend both. The place is pretty small and in a secluded area but definitely a warm and welcoming treat, a place to stop when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Philly.

i have loved this restaurant for 11 years. the food is usually delicious. the only thing that has changed are the yams. they haven't been up to par - not cooked enough or sweet enough. i usually get turkey wings over rice and gravy, w/greens & potato salad. they never fail. and the mac & cheese is the best! although they have a couple of tables so u can eat in, i wouldn't suggest it. its VERY tight in there. just do a pick up. overall, i think its one of the best soul food restaurants in philly.

I've been a customer of Charlie's Country Ribs for over 10 years now and the most important thing i can say about it is that the quality and overall taste of the food has never changed. It is consistently delicious each and every time I visited Denice and Charlie's restaurant. They really specialize in Southern Style cooking and the menu is very large compared to most Soul Food joints. Are you ready? You can get Fried and Barbecue Chicken, Barbecue Ribs, Chopped Barbecue, Pork Chops, Fried Fish, Cornish Hens, Pigs Feet, Beef Short Ribs, Ox Tails, Smoothed Turkey Wings, Limas,Collards, String Beans, Black Eyed Peas, Potato Salad, Yams, Mac & Cheese, Okra Corn and Tomatoes, Corn Bread etc. eye. etc. !!! And that's not counting Breakfast or Desserts and IT'S ALL GOOD!
