We decided to get steaks for a BBQ. We looked at Costco but they wanted $16/pound for ribeye steaks. (Ribeye steaks are the best cut for the money in my estimation, better than a filet mignon.) Well, I wasn't going to pay $16 for ribeye. I went to Cannuli and Charlie cut me two 3/4" steaks that were awesome. Best of all they were only $11.99/pound. If you need further proof of the value of a local butcher, I think you have it now.

It's a mandatory stop, besides the klller product I'm deeming it as excellent customer service. I called Canuli's months back in my first attempt to understand how the Korean BBQ meat Bulgogi was created. I was extremely lucky to talk to Jerry who told me what meat to use, and what would be cost efficient. He sliced down a roast for me, wrapped it separate and gave it a little citrus spray. I took it home to make the Bulgogi, I've used it for Cheesesteaks, and pepper steaks also. It's unreal. The fact that they WILL slice it for you is a gift, but mainly I understand it's labor, and he volunteered it, which simplifies to excellent customer service. I have incorporated the house of pork into my freezer stocking ventures. With that being said, it's time I also recommend what most people know (or if they don't they need to) they are famous for. The sausage, it's hands down the clean up hitter in the lineup on an all-star block of great Italian foods. I was first introduced to their hot sausage at a dinner party and my friend advised me of the location, which ultimately set the wheels in motion. It's amazing. What also is amazing is the breakfast sausage, the real deal. It's absolutely unreal, and I'll go one step further to state that I am not really a sausage fanatic. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to make their sauce (or gravy) turn heads or their in laws happy morning guests. 10/10.

Oh Mame if you need yourself some delicious meat you need to come down here. They cut anything you want to your specification fast and efficiently. The aroma that comes from the pigs roasting in the back and the giant bin of smoked meats brings a huge smile your face. Seriously the best butcher shop at the market. If you have an access card you can rack up the biggest meat bill you can find and good old Uncle Sam will take care of it for you. Only in America.

Garlic Butter chicken thighs. ... Oh, I need to write more than that? Okay. When we want high quality meat and reasonable prices, we go to Cannuli's. The staff is always super friendly and ready to answer any questions you may have. if you only buy one thing from Cannuli, buy the garlic butter chicken thighs. Drop them on the grill, cook them up in a pan on the stove, bake them in the oven, it doesn't matter. They are flavorful and tender no matter how they're cooked and need nothing else done to them but some delicious sides.

Best old school butcher in the Italian market!

Seriously??? That was my reaction when I walked in there. Amazing selection of fine meats. I got the stuffed pork chops, and the guy put them in an aluminum pan for me, and told me how to cook them. Great service, great meat, fair prices. Nothing not to like here. Highly recommended.

Had their bacon on New Year's Day, but the skin was left on (if you do not know, the skin is very tough and difficult to eat, so if a place leaves it on, it's best to have them slice the bacon thin) and this made our bacon virtually inedible. We gave the skin to the dog, who liked it, but we wouldn have been happy to eat the bacon ourselves. We tried to give them another chance, since we usually hit Esposito's and the really good butcher a few doors down with all the best quality cuts, but we waited and waited, and butcher after butcher passed us by, and helped other people. People who walked in after us were helped over us for no reason. I made eye contact with multiple butchers who ignored me time and time again. We were prepared to buy a lot of meat, with cash, but couldn't get any service so we walked out and down to Esposito's where we were in and out in 15 minutes and helped right away by a very friendly gentlemen who was happy to help us.

this is my spot on my weekly trip to Italian Market. They have the freshest chicken around. I am hooked on the garlic marinated chicken thighs for $2.99/lb, insane! They also have another shop next door for pork and beef.

Cannuli's is GREAT and very reasonably priced. Chicken, meats, turkey is all fresh and good there. Recently, I've been ordering their cooked food too...chicken parm and oddly chicken meatloaf. Yeah, that sounds weird but, throw a little hot sauce on this stuff along with cannuli's tomato sauce and its like crack. Incredibly good. I've been privileged to go behind the scenes at cannuli's and these guys are CLEAN. Don't have to worry about contamination of meats here. Great service is a huge plus.

I wish we lived closer to Cannuli's because this place knows how to do poultry. We've tried their garlic/butter chicken thighs, which are super easy, as you can just stick em' on the grill and your friends will think you made some crazy marinade and worked really hard to impress them. I recently tried their buffalo hot sausage, which an employee told me tasted like hot wings, as it has hot sauce and blue cheese in it. He was right on the money because they were some of the best sausages EVER. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and you really can't beat their prices. I'm sold.

If you've ever been to Cannulli's, you would think a serial killer had been let loose in South Philly. I have to shield my eyes when I walk past. Nauseating.

Canullis is one of those awesome Philly spots on 9th street. We come here once a week, we know all the butchers by name, and we buy 10-15lb of meat per trip. On Saturdays, with the exception of the end of the month, it will be BUSY. If you want faster service, just avoid Saturday. Charlie, the owner is also a really good guy. We've come to know him over the years and they will happily give you a tour of the back if you ask! (Not during peak times) Note: their bacon isn't good. Just FYI.

I like the quality of the meat here, but I have to say that the service can vary a lot. I've been in here a couple of times where it's been nearly impossible to get the attention of the staff, or where they've been totally uninterested in figuring who has been waiting the longest.

I'm a carnivore. I'd like to be vegetarian for purely moral reasons, but I can't help that I love meat. Love, love, love it. With butcher shops lined up along 9th Street, I'm honestly not sure how Cannuli became my butcher of choice. Perhaps I was standing in front of it when it dawned on me that I really wanted to cook a pork shoulder. Or maybe the line was too long somewhere else. At any rate, I now head to Cannuli whenever I need a hunk of flesh to consume. I like them because they are friendly and efficient and because they have a good selection of very fresh meats. They always make sure I have two bones, one for each dog, even if the cut of meat I purchased that day only came with one. They always trim the meat to my specifications and offer to season it, too. Also, they generally don't have a bunch of carcasses hanging in view, which allows me to pretend that meat does not actually come from animals. That illusion is shattered, however, when they serve pulled pork sandwiches RIGHT OFF THE PIG at the Italian Market festival in May. However, the sandwiches are so good that I don't care.

The only thing I like about winter is that its the time to start drying/curing meat. Cannuli's is my first stop for eye roast, pork shoulder and belly. Usually crowded on a Saturday but its the only day I can get there. An eclectic group of people both behind and in front of the counter always provides the entertainment. Good Prices, fresh quality meat so what more can you ask for? Soon the Peperone, Brasiole, Sopressata and Pancetta will be finished and the blood pressure/cholestrol will be up but it will be sooo worth it. What would I do without you wonderful house of pork.

Known in simpler times at Cannulli's House of Pork, this is a classic old-school butcher shop where you can pick up parts of any animal you'd like to eat. Known for selling whole roasted pigs ready to go, Cannulli's will also sell you a whole, raw dressed pig -- any poundage you like -- and you can have a manly time charring it over a giant fire in your backyard, with all you man friends admiring your massive hunk of meat. For those with more refined carnivore tastes, have one of the friendly butchers saw a cow's femur into 1.5-inch lengths and roast. Spread that soft marrow on toasted bread for the finest meat butter experience you will ever have. A five-star butcher shop for price, service and selection. This is all commerical-type feedlot beef/pork/chicken -- no grass-fed stuff. Hopefully they will add top-quality grass-fed meat in the future.

Great prices and you can find almost everything you need here. I'm a vegetarian but I shop here for our three dogs so we buy in bulk. I'm sure everyone here wonders why I burn through 20lbs+ of assorted meat a week, too. They have a poultry-selling sister next door.. the chicken quarters are less than a $1 per pound when you buy 20lbs. Gizzards, pig's feet, ground meat, pork shoulder, cow hearts, lamb ribs.. sweetbreads.. liver.. The butchers are all friendly and super helpful, too!

You can't beat Cannulli's Turkey Sausage. It makes the BEST turkey meatballs and turkey burgers you or your friends have ever had. Trust me. They stuff it with sage and you can add a little peprika, and an egg and there you go! 3lbs for $6.00. They also have a wide variety of other turkey and meat products. Everything fresh. Cleanliness is amazing for 9th st. I've been coming here for years and people that work there have become like friends because of it. They will definitely remember you if you are nice.

I don't eat a lot of meat but when I have a dinner party and need something or want to try a new recipe I go here. Last night I wanted to get a bone for my dog's birthday. I left work early in hopes of making it in time. I live around the corner but work in West Philly. I arrived and they were closed, all dark and closed up. So I decided to call and see if someone answered, perhaps in the back cleaning up. So someone did answer and the gentleman said "you just need a bone" and I said "yes" he said, I'll be right there. He let me in and I got my birthday bone. I thought that was really nice! The men that sell are super nice, always pleasant. My only complaint would be that you never know who is in line but that seems to be the south Philly way.
