Been back a few times to pick up bonchon wings to go... And we keep coming back because the wings are tons crispier! YES! THANK YOU!

Here with a few friends on a Friday afternoon for lunch, and we all got their lunch special. At $8.99 with 8 wings and a side, it's a pretty good deal (their wings are usually $12 for 10, no sides included). The wings are fantastic, double fried so they are crispy on the outside and super tender inside. Both choices of sauce--spicy and soy garlic--are great, though I must say the spicy one is a bit too hot for me, and I usually love spicy food. We also got an order of popcorn chicken for the table to share. The portion was generous, and I would say good for a group of 4 - 6 to split. It comes with a spicy kimchi mayo sauce, which was pretty good. We all got different sides: fries were nice and quite heavily battered, kimchi cole slaw was quite special but also pretty spicy, the white rice was a bit disappointing. Service was attentive but not memorable. If anything, the hostess seems to be the most enthusiastic about her job in the whole restaurant. Decor of the restaurant is modern, but they have more TVs than they do tables (seriously...we counted at least 12 TVs). The novelty of Bonchon and Korean fried chicken in general seems to have worn off a bit, but I still think Bonchon offers some of the best wings in the city.

I had a great experience today at Bonchon, I got the vegetable fried rice with tofu (see photo below) and I had a really friendly and amicable waiter named Zach. The hostess was also very sweet and helped me with directions, told me about the city, and spoke to me like a friend would. It was a really nice and welcoming environment. Chic too. Being from NY originally, I can tell when a lot of money has gone into making a restaurant come alive. This place felt alive and yet like a club. I highly recommend going here. The portions were very generous, the place was clean, and the people were nice. I could've done without the blasting provocative Korean music videos all around.

I had heard many good things about Bonchon when it first opened in Chinatown, and my friend and I finally decided to head there for something new one rainy evening. When we first walked in, the atmosphere reminded me of every K-pop fan's dream. Huge TV's all around the restaurant played different music videos the entire night, and the decor was modern, yet comfortable. While I didn't mind the loud music and bright videos (K-pop does a great job of producing some very interesting content), it could definitely be overwhelming for some people who want to have a calm, decent meal. The waiters were attentive and friendly, and made sure we were satisfied with our experience. My friend and I split a medium order of wings and drumsticks (half and half), and an order of bulgogi sliders. The chicken was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, which was the perfect balance. I actually preferred the soy garlic sauce over the spicy, but overall nothing extremely special. A side of pickled radishes came with our dish and was a fresh palate cleanser. The bulgogi sliders were also good, served with lettuce and fresh cucumber and topped with a Sriracha mayo. While their signature chicken wasn't the most novel or unique, I definitely would be willing to check this place out again just to try some other dishes and sample their Froju.

I have been a fan of Bonchon for a few years now. Coming from Virginia, I have eaten at the Richmond and Sterling location. Their soy garlic chicken has always been consistently delicious. This goes for the Philly location as well. Along with the chicken, I ordered the bulgogi bibimbap - thinking it was going to live to the same standard as the fried chicken. Bonchon Chicken is named Bonchon Chicken for a reason. The whole dish was rather bland and disappointing. For once, I did not take my leftovers to-go. While we're on it - the owner needs to improve several qualities of the restaurant. Firstly, please have your host wear appropriate pants. I'm all for empowering ladies, but there are certain places and occasions where see-through leggings are not appropriate - one being a family establishment. Also, I understand this is a fried chicken spot, but both floors were dangerously slippery. Everyone in my group made a comment about this as well. What are you doing? Rubbing the chicken all over the floors? TLDR: come for the lunch special only for their soy garlic wings, get it to-go

I was really nervous to try this location out because of the mixed reviews and mixed articles about how the hype of Bonchon opening in Philly was all just talk. We've been to Bonchon in NYC and absolutely loved it. We've also been to Cafe Soho and loved it there too. We lucked out and loved the Philly location! We made it just in time for Happy Hour so we got $3 drafts and $5 wines! Perfect for the boyfriend and I. We got the medium combo (10 wings and 5 drums)... it was $21. We got half soy garlic and half hot. I love the soy garlic more. The hot is like way too hot for me to enjoy but the boyfriend loved it. We also got a side of fries, they were so good! Maybe I should've been more specific, but I wanted the fries with our wings. It came out first and we were done the fries well before the wings even came out. The waiting game for the wings took awhile, it was almost 20 minutes! I guess this is why people get really drunk before eating since they probably just keep ordering drinks. The service was decent. The waitress was nice. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cool. It was weird they were playing like Asian MTV music videos, but whatever. It is Bonchon. We'll definitely be back!

I love Korean friend chicken. I'd been wanting to check out this place ever since it opened. Last night I was leaving a party in Philadelphia around 11:30 PM and wanting a hot bite to eat. I noticed that Bonchon was one of the few places open as they close at 2:00 AM. This seemed like a good opportunity to check it out. We parked on the street very easily right by the restaurant since it was late, and we didn't have to wait forever for a table like I'd been hearing about in the reviews. We were seated on the first floor by the entryway. We didn't have any of the service problems I'd been reading about. I'd originally wanted to order a soju fruit drink, but they were all $20! Maybe they are big, I don't know, but I would have been the only one drinking it, so I gave that a miss. We ordered the medium combo with drum sticks and wings with half soy and half spicy. The chicken took maybe 15-20 minutes to come out. While you wait, you can enjoy the K-pop music videos on the large tv screens around the bar. Now, if you have been to Cafe Soho, this chicken will disappoint you. If you have nothing to compare it to, you'll probably walk away pretty happy. It wasn't as crisp as Soho's and some pieces were lacking on the sauce. Also, the hot sauce wasn't hot enough, and the soy was a bit too sweet for my taste. It was good, but I've definitely had better. The other disappointment was the radishes. They give you a lot, but they were a bit dry, not as crisp as Soho and needed more vinegar. The only advantage I see to Bonchon over Soho is that they offer boneless chicken and chicken drum sticks which Soho does not. We couldn't finish two pieces of the chicken as we were full, and the server nicely offered to wrap them up to go. If I am in the area late at night and craving this kind of chicken, I'd come back, but when given the choice, I'd much rather go to either of Soho's locations.

I came back again to eat in, and was pleasantly surprised. Food: - Small Soy Garlic Wings ($11.95) - Avocado Salmon Ball ($9.95) - Reload (Raspberry Yogurt Soju) ($5 HH) The quality of the chicken definitely was better this time around, with more sauce & crisp to the chicken. Even the avocado salmon ball, for which I was a little hesitant for, was pretty tasty (but a little heavy on the mayo inside). Despite the better food, I still feel as if the food is overpriced for the quantity and quality I receive. Hopefully next time my thoughts will change as I come back for their happy hour specials!

We had a BONCH of fun here the other night with a large group! When I lived in Korea, one of our favorite things to do was go get fried chicken and (pitcher after pitcher) of beer while hanging out outside. I was so excited when I heard Bonchon was coming to Philly and the other night brought back some great memories. We got the 40 piece chicken set for 10 of us, with some appetizers (japchae, takoyaki, dumplings, seafood pancake), a few pitchers of beer and a lychee soju pitcher and it was about $25 each with tax and tip. Everything was great. The spicy sauce (on both chicken and dumplings) was like a kick in the face, watch out. The chicken was crispy and awesome, and all the apps were all great too. My friends and I got a bit loud (and broke 2 glasses) and the waiters were still awesome/nonjudgemental. They even alerted us when the late night specials were starting (they have some awesome drink specials starting at 11 and they let us start at 9). Check the website for specials like discounted top shelf, margaritas, martinis, etc. Great place to start or end a night!

No point to write long review for a place with 100+ reviews already. Lets get right down to business: Great lunch special: $8.95 for 8 wings and a side. (Fries, kimchi, etc). I'd suggest the "half and half" sauce. Very good. Fair prices given its Center City. I heard some others complain about slow service. I sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and prompt. I had my food in about 10 minutes or less. Bonchon has avery trendy and clean atmosphere. Everything is pretty much brand new. Theres big screen TVs with K-POP on during the day and sports at night. Good: scantily clad Korean girls dancing on big screens, Bad: Korean Justin Biebers hopping around on big screens. Cool place with good food. I could possibly give them 5 stars, but I need to take it in a little more first.

The famous Korean chain Bonchon Chicken has come to Philadelphia and it has stirred controversy including an early-on inability to keep the supply side of its famous Korean-style fried chicken equal to the demand. A totally negative view from the Philadelphia Inquirer restaurant critic also eventually followed. Well now things have settled down for this cool-looking Chinatown eatery and I'm ready to contribute my thoughts. Bonchon Philadelphia is much better than its critics make it out to be. (Some people will criticize any chain restaurant.) The Korean fried chicken (both wings and drumsticks) is quite good ... even if I agree it is not elevated into the same stratosphere as the Korean chicken from Café Soho in Philadelphia. The kimchee coleslaw is def totally tasty - I could easily eat a pint of this stuff in one sitting. The service was friendly and attentive - my water glass was filled up three or four times without asking. The kitchen was still however slightly on the slow side even though the restaurant wasn't overly busy. And as a tip - they have a tremendous value lunch special for around nine dollars offered every day of the week. I can in good conscience round off my rating and give Bonchon Chicken four stars.

I'm glad that they finally opened one in Philly, however I'm not that impressed. I'm going to start off by telling you about my experience with the food. The lg soy wings were very tasty, sweet, salty and had that great crunch factor. The chicken itself was very large and plump in size, a lot larger than wings you'll find being served at soho. I also ordered the salmon avocado ball as an app. It was great! I highlyyy recommend! It reminded me of a kani salad. I believe it was covered in crispy salmon and this delicious creamy sauce on the outside and filled with good stuff like cucumbers, faux crab on the inside. Sooo good. Only complaint that I have is that my fries came out like 10 mins after my entree. The atmosphere was so and so. It's small. Tables are small, space is cramped. It is always busy. The bathrooms... There is only one bathroom for both genders!? I suggest you hold it. The wait to be seated can be 45 mins sometimes, which is too much! Overall I think it's best to call for takeout before you take that drive downtown, skip eating in.

I came back to give this place another try after their soft opening. It's been a while so I was hoping the food has improved since then. Consensus? Definitely has improved over the few months. Also, the hype has died down so there isn't a 1-1.5 hr wait as there was before. We ordered the salmon avocado ball and a medium order of the soy garlic chicken combo with drumsticks and wings. The salmon avocado ball came out in a timely manner and was presented pretty well. The appetizer consists of a generous amount of crabmeat, cucumber, avocado, tempura crumbs, and tobiko all wrapped up in some seared salmon drizzled with spicy mayo and unagi sauce. So so yummy! Definitely something to get to start off your meal here. Our chicken came out shortly afterwards, and it was great. Soy garlic flavor was on point. The chicken was tender for the most part, but there were some parts that were pretty dry. No biggie though. Bonchon has upped its service and food quality the past few months. So glad to have a place like Bonchon around to serve up some mean Korean fried chicken. Keep it up, Bonchon!

It's ok. I've had better fried chicken at the Bonchon in Virginia. It's great for late night, when this place at least doesn't smell so weird or has sketchy ambience like other late night cafes in chinatown. But it just doesn't have much for option. Nothing is really super out of this world or different as opposed to other fried chicken you can find all over this city... And it gets kind of one noted with limited menu options that are interesting. If all you want is fried chicken and you're in china town, and it's late night, come here, but after one plate you'll get bored. and coming back you'll be really bored. Well that was me at least. I've been here three times and i think i'll stop. i am officially bored. see? that's not a sign of a good thing going. yawn

BonChon, welcome to Philadelphia, and welcome to Chinatown. I called to make sure they were open, and when I got there I realized it was their soft opening day, I ordered my lunch to- go so this is more of a preview until I dine-in properly! Some take home notes: 1/ BonChon is Korean for "My Hometown" or "origin"! 2/ My Order: I ordered the combo of wings and drums with a mix of Hot sauce and Soy Garlic sauce. The Chicken was so D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S. Crisp shell from the outside and juicy and tender from the inside. The garlic soy chicken was not overpowering or garlicky, which I liked. The spicy chicken, however, Oh boy! After the first bite, I jumped off my seat to grab the fire extinguisher!! As soon as the chicken hit my tongue, the steam came out of my mouth & ears like immediately! Still LOVE it!! Those were serious wings! After a couple of sips of water I enjoyed the side of Kimchi Coleslaw, even the salad is Spicy, whoever invented this dish is a genius. A cool & crunchy slaw and a tangy kimchi. My latest obsession. 3/ very Yummy chicken but the waiting time was more than one hour, I'm sure service will be improved- it's just the first day, and with the solid chicken they have I'm not concerned. 4/ An insider told me that the key is the spices they use, and their secret is that they import their spices from Korea so no one can copy the recipe! Will be Back soon to burn my tongue BonChon! See ya Three Yelps!

Enter through the sliding doors. I think there's a long wait time (2 hours) because it just opened and there aren't many seats to begin with in this place. There's two floors but the top floor only has like around 6 tables. We came here on a Saturday (group of 6), they don't have many big tables so the wait was long. We waited at 730 and got seated at 9 something. We ordered 40 soy garlic wings and 20 half/half (soy garlic and hot). The soy garlic is probably the better flavor. The hot wings aren't very hot at all- didn't really have a kick to it. I've been to bonchon in annadale, VA and it's definitely better there. The wings are a bit on the dry side- not sure why- maybe it was just an off day. We also got yogurt soju ($20), ~12 shots. The beers are around 6 bucks for non domestic ($4.20 for coors light). The wings are around $37 for 40- not too bad, decent price. I really do like bonchon because of my experience in VA but this one isn't as good. If you're craving korean fried chicken though this is probably your're best bet in the city. If you go 20 min outside the city you can get korean fried chicken at cafe soho. MUST GET THE SALMON AVOCADO BALL- if you're a fan of avocado and spicy mayo- delicious! (~$9.95) They have a big bar area in the middle - I think they might be trying to make this a night scene as well. Decor is nice, modern. They have big screens with kpop videos playing. Service is super friendly!!

Never had korean fried chicken so what great way to try it at this newly opened restaurant at chinatown. First time I came here I was very disappointed because i didn't expect a restaurant would open at 5 in the evening. I had to try again. My friend and I had dinner here right after we got off work and thankfully we didn't go any later because the place got packed really fast. In fact on our way out, there was a line forming waiting to be seated. As we were seated, our waitress recommended we ordered the fried chicken first since it would take about 30 mins. My friend and I got the half soy garlic and hot drumsticks and wings. We also got calamari and bulgogi bibimbap. The calamari was delicious, very different taste from the calamaris I've had. It was more like the asian take of calamari which tasted like it was marinated in soy garlic sauce very similar to the fried chicken. It didn't come with marinara sauce it just had its own sauce that it didn't require the marinara. The double fried chicken was crunchy, tasty and moist. The bulgogi bibimbap was ok. The flavor wasn't all there not very authentic. The place isn't that big although they did have a second level seating. It also had about 5 TV that played korean pop videos. Overall I liked the the fried chicken and calamari. I would come back here for more chicken.

I LOVE this place. My friends refer to the Soy Garlic wings as "Crack Chicken" because it's seriously addicting! They're perfectly crunchy and savory. We recently tried the Soy Garlic strips and they're just as good. The Salmon Avacado Ball is also a favorite. We've tried so many things and have never been disappointed! Get a bottle of Strawberry Froju. It's perfect with anything but dangerously delicious as it is surprisingly strong. The atmosphere is great. They have big screens with music videos playing. Also, the staff is awesome and friendly.

This probably deserves closer to 3.5 stars, but overall, I thought Bonchon was a tasty, different (for those who have never had it before) place to eat that had pretty good service as well. I came here with a group of 5 and we ordered the XL wings (half and half), a salmon avocado ball, japchae, and the watermelon Froju. We were all pretty hungry to start, but I felt pretty full after the entire meal. I loved the chicken and thought it was super crunchy, which was great. I liked the soy garlic a little more than the spicy. The salmon avocado ball was great, although I think it might have been The noodles didn't stand out to me too much. I'd definitely recommend trying a bottle of their soju; you could taste that they used actual watermelon in our drinks. The atmosphere definitely catered to fans of kpop, as there were large screens around the restaurant blasting music videos the entire time (I didn't mind it). The waiters were attentive throughout the night as well. Overall, I wasn't so impressed that I would go again every week, but this is definitely a nice place to check out, and I could see myself coming back here every now and then!

Of course Philadelphia gets a Bonchon after I move out of the city! I miss the city every day, and one of the things I miss the MOST about Philly is the plethora of food options that are available. Chinatown is no exception, and Philly getting a Bonchon is the best news, like, ever. My boyfriend had never had Korean fried chicken before, and on our last visit back to the city, I knew I had to change that. Bonchon is open late, so after a few drinks a block or so away, I knew where we had to go for post-drink munch time. We ordered half spicy and half soy garlic, but I did warn my boyfriend that the spicy wings do not play around. He thought, "How spicy could they possible be?" I thought, "You gon' learn today." The wings came, and we went for the soy garlic first. Heaven! Just as good as any Korean fried chicken I'd had elsewhere. Next up: spicy. I struggled through it (I'm half-Korean and half-can't-handle-real-spice-wimp) and my boyfriend's eyes opened wide, telling me we had made a terrible mistake. He liked them, though, so he ate more, but I don't think he'll be ordering the spicy on our next visit. Our server was this really awesome guy. I forgot to write a review right after our trip so now I can't remember his name, or I'd give him a huge shoutout.

Too cold. Too slow. Too expensive. My friend and I waited for 30 to get a table, which was acceptable. We would've left and eat else where if we knew the wait for the food was 90 minutes AFTER we sat down and ordered because everyone ordered take out and the kitchen was backed up. We ordered pan an as appetizer, which did not come out until 70 min after we sat down and after we asked the waiter to bring it out first.... The worst part was that pancake was 14 dollar and it was the size of my hand.... There wasn't even scallion on it.... Two star because the chicken was good. Or else it would've been a one.

In the beginning I thought it was pretty decent. If I had to give it a scale from 1-10, it was a 7 and Cafe Soho would be a 8.5-9. After trying it out a few more times I will have to downgrade my rating to 6. The only reason I would go is because it is so much closer to the city than Cafe Soho. Let's start with the chicken itself. I feel like they are being a bit stingy with the sauce and not evenly coating the chicken. Also the chicken itself is a bit small compared to Cafe Soho and not as crispy. The pickled radishes are horrible compared to Soho. There are not enough pickled juice for the radishes which end up making them really dry and under pickled. I really think the radishes are quite important to the entire meal, but to fail to make such a simple dish correctly saddens me greatly. The Salmon Avocado Ball in the beginning was pretty good, but now I feel like it is a waste of money. There are a ton of cucumbers and not enough avocado. It's called a salmon avocado ball and not a salmon cucumber ball. I definitely feel a bit cheated when I ordered this on multiple occasions after the first time, hoping that it will taste like the first time. Bulgogi fried rice was pretty good and not bad at all, but I do feel like it is a bit overpriced. I fee like the soju should be placed in a different container to prevent the liquid from spilling. A carafe would be a better container in my opinion. Also compared to Cafe Soho, I feel like the soju would be better with fresh fruit and be better worth the money. In the end this place is decent, and the atmosphere is fun and trendy, but I feel like they are taking cheap short-cuts and lowering the quality of food.

Open late. Not as good as the nyc location but hits the spot. The salmon avocado ball was good but more cucumber than salmon. Can't go wrong with the hot and spicy flavor. Good crisp and served hot. The bottle of watermelon soju was a good size and refreshing. Service was great. Uber nice waiter.

I was staying at the sleep inn right near china town. Every night I saw this place packed so I decided to try it. Everything from the Parmesan fries to the chicken potstickers was amazing. The chicken is made just right and mouth watering none the less. If your looking for a good wing spot with a Asian twist this is def the best spot to eat!

I have struggled with how to review BonChon since I went and I have finally decided that I am just going to have to rate it now and then revise my review when i go again. I went to BonChon on opening night, I had heard a lot about it and was excited to try out a bunch of stuff. Upon arriving I was informed that they weren't serving any food until 5 pm, I arrived at 4:45 pm. I asked if I could sit at the bar and have a beer until 5 and they let me do that. Once at the bar I ordered a beer, checked out the menu, and the bartender said that he would put in my order so that the kitchen could get right on it at 5 pm. I thought that I was ahead of the curve on this so that's what I did, I went with the bulgogi bibimpop and a small order of wings (10 wings total), half honey garlic, half hot. Then I proceeded to wait and wait and wait. Parties at the bar that arrived after me got their food, ate, and then left. I tried to stay as patient as possible and asked the bartender a few times, politely, what was happening. The excuse was that the kitchen was working on a 300 wing order (why anybody would accept such an order on their opening day is beyond me). After a few more times asking the manager got involved and voila I had my bibimpop and wings in about 2 minutes. They comped my beers and apologized but the damage was pretty well done, all in all I waited almost 2 hours for food. Once it arrived everything was fantastic, on the food they get 5 stars and the service get 1 star and it's primarily the kitchen's fault on that one. The bartender was definitely stuck between a rock and a hard place here. I want to return once things have settled down and BonChon finds itself, once that happens I will certainly update this review and I have no doubt it will be a 4 or 5 star review. BonChon certainly deserves its cult-like following status.

KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN I have attended the both the soft and grand opening of Bonchon Chicken. Both visits i have ordered the fried chicken. The chicken had the most satisfying crunch from freshly fried chicken. The chicken was splattered with the usually sauces from an korean friend chicken place, soy garlic and a spicy sauce. The soy garlic was ok, not the best version of the sauce i had eaten. The spicy has a nice kick with a slight sweetness to it. Of course I ate everything I order in about 30 mins. Food wise, i would probably go again The restaurant itself is a little small of my liking. I was with a group of 4 others and we sat by the main entrance on one of the coldest nights in philly. The table and chairs tight and barely enough to hold about 80 pieces of chicken on the table. The ambience caters more towards young adults. I enjoyed the large amount of tv's everywhere. Watching the fan favorite kpop videos while simultaneously watching college basket is always a treat. If you are fan listening to kpop while watching ESPN then this is your place. Overall the restaurant drew a large crowd but has a very small area. i throughly enjoyed my food and the atmosphere Bonchon has is geared towards college students to young working adults. They are very good at updating their serving hours on their facebook so my sure you like it to get the latest. I was a bunch of people walk in without this knowledge and wasted their trip there.

First of all, I just wanted to say that it's petty how some reviewers are overly upset because of the entrance. Although they have the right to be upset, Bonchon should definitely place a sign telling people to go through the sliding doors. This is grand opening week so of course there will be kinks that they will need to work out. I came here on Friday night, and it was freaking packed to the point where my friend and I couldn't barely even get inside. Once we got inside, the hostess told us that there would be a 40-45 min. wait, and so I asked her if I could make a reservation and come back, and she told me that she would give me a call during that time. So my friend and I left to get bubble tea and then came back 50 mins later and we still didn't have a table. We weren't upset over not being seated right away because it was PACKED. Eventually we were seated and our waitress was so nice. She was friendly and provided great service. As soon as we were seated she gave us the menu and explained the different options they had (She also gave us a heads up about the wait time for chicken) , took our drink orders, and brought our drinks to us immediately. As we sat there and waited for our food, we noticed a lot of the waitresses (not ours) were gathered in group or they were on their phones. They should have been tending to their customers not their phones, but since that wasn't our waitress, that was not really our business. About 40 mins later, the famous Bonchon chicken was served to us. We ordered the spicy & soy sauce fried chicken. Our chicken was crunchy, but it could've been a bit crunchier and it was easy to eat. I also think the chicken lacked flavor as well, as in they could've definitely up their flavor game for the soy sauce chicken. One thing I really liked about their chicken was that it wasn't dried. We also ordered the takoyoki, and it was soooooooo freakin' delicious. Overall, the chicken was good but it wasn't as what people hyped it up to be. Overall dinging experience at this establishment was fun, the atmosphere was inviting even though it was a bit chaotic inside. It gets really loud inside because they blast korean music and all the people in there, so if you don't like loud dining places, this isn't for you. Well apparently this place doesn't take reservations as of this point. Hopefully that changes...

Great place! Came here on a Sunday evening, and was seated instantly. The place features numerous TVs featuring sports or asian music videos. The food itself was good. Ordered the wings to share. As well as a bimbimbop. Your typical korean style wings. Not too much batter which is good. Would come back again. The servers are young adults (college students), but they are very attentive.

We came here on a weekday at 5:30pm and were able to get seated right away. We ordered the combo Drumstick and Wings - half soy / half spicy. Overall, it wasn't bad. The Drumstick was large and crispy BUT the meat inside was WAY overcooked and really tough. The wings were actually really good. The spicy ones were good. I liked the flavor but I didn't think the soy ones had much of a flavor. We also ordered fries and japchae. Japchae was good but the fries were not crispy. If I were to ever go back, I'd just order wings. I'd prob still get half/half just to off balance the spiciness. The service was a really great. The waitress was really attentive and really nice.

We came here on a Thursday around 9:00 pm and had to wait a couple minutes to be seated. The place just opened a couple weeks ago and we decided to check it out. We waited a couple minutes and got seated upstairs where there was a giant projector spewing out K-pop music videos non stop. I love k-pop but it was getting a little annoying with the same type of music video every couple minutes(K-pop girl groups), wished they mixed it up a bit. The restaurant itself was pretty small there were two levels, 1st floor had the bar and a couple tables and the second floor was half the size of the first floor had about 5-6 tables. The crowd was pretty young mostly Chinese and Korean customers and a few middle age guests at the bar. Our waiter was very nice and explained how Bonchon was famous for the wings here and they double fry it to make it extra crispy. He also explained that the wait for the wings would be around 50 minutes since they were backed up in the kitchen. We ordered a large combo of wings with 1/2 spicy and 1/2 soy garlic and also ordered some fries as an appetizer. The first batch of fries came out cold and we notified our waiter and he brought it back to the kitchen and apologized. We waited for 30 minutes and the fries still didn't come, this time our waiter told us there was a mix up and the kitchen forgot to make it LOL. So he brought us 3x the portion they usually had, which made us extremely happy cause we've been waiting for sooooo long for the wings and were hella hungry. The fries were very tasty, it was crispy and hot, it also had some garlic mixed it which added a little zing to the fries. Now on to the wings which Bonchon is famous for. After 50 minutes the wings finally came. 30 pieces of mixed chicken, a giant drumstick, the smaller drum, and the wing. I Tried the soy garlic wing first. The first thing i noticed the wings were very very crispy, and tender. The meat itself was pretty juicy and yummy, the soy garlic sauce though had a pretty subtle flavor which is hard to taste but overall the soy garlic wings were really tasty, just wish there was a little more sauce on my wings. The hot wings were my favorite, at first it wasn't particularly hot at all but after a wing the spices kick in and your mouth starts watering. The hot sauce was slightly sweet and the hotness tasted kinda like the hot sauce they use in Kimchi. The hot wings were my favorite even though it made me drink like 5 glasses of water. Giving this place 4/5 because the wings are delicious and they gave us extra fries for the inconvenient wait. The hostess and servers were incredibly nice and really attentive filling my cup up every time it was at least 1/2 empty. Docking a star cause the wait for our food was longer than expected, the floors were actually really wet when I tried to walk up the stairs and they only have one unisex bathroom. Even though the wait was long I would come again just for the wings alone, yummy. P.S Thank you to my cousin for treating me for dinner that night.

Came here with party of six, and we were waiting for like 2 hours because the place doesn't have enough tables for a group. The atmosphere is really similar to Cafe Soho, but I would say Cafe Soho is better because 1) wings tasted no different from Soho 2) Bonchon only has one bathroom for both men and women 3) Bonchon charges the additional pickled radish 4) I didn't see fried chicken on Bonchon's menu while Soho has really good fried chicken wings. However, I like Bonchon's soy flavor wings more than Soho, and Bonchon's Okonomoyaki was awesome! Overall, I would recommend to avoid peak time if you want to go to Bonchon; Soho is good for group dinning!

The battle of the KFC = Korean Fried Chicken. I made the mistake of coming here on a Friday night and waited over an hour for a table of 4. You know what also sucks? Having people come here in large parties when you know there are empty tables but obviously waiting on other parties to leave so they can make the seating arrangement for parties of 6+. I do appreciate it when you can leave your name and they'll call you when the table is ready but when you have a mob of hangry people... it gets tough when you see empty tables reserved for people and you were waiting inside the whole time. It's also a problem when the restaurant was not created with larger parties in mind since there's only so many tables to be seated at and a larger bar in the middle of the restaurant floor. It was hard to get a drink at the bar since everyone seating barside was enjoying their meals to even wait to have a drink while waiting for your table. The waiting area is minimal especially since it opened during the cold winter months when you dont want to wait outside but corral inside. I waited for 1.15 hours until I saw an opening at the bar and since that area is first come first serve, we ran towards the seats. I told the hostess that we'll be sitting here so it was fine. At this time it was 9 pm when I arrived at 7:45 pm so my stomach was eating itself at this point. It wasn't until another 20 minutes that someone called our phone saying the table was available but clearly we noted when we sat down?! Bonchon has a variety of offerings aside from the fried chicken. I had the ddukboki (very spicy, caution to everyone out there), the salmon (which was really good! full of flavor, variety of crunch and fresh), and fries (crispy and crunchy). Don't be fooled I also ordered the chicken but by the time I finished all the other dishes, I was not hungry for the chicken since it was another 45 minutes until it arrived. I had Soho chicken so I had something to compare this against. Bonchon's chicken is crispy but the meat itself was dry and the flavor doesn't go past the crunch of the skin. I officially ate at 10 pm and asked for the check so I can make it to my next Friday night destination. I'll probably return to give it another shot a year from now but not going back any time soon.

Came here for late night on a Saturday with some friends. We had just come back from watching a show and were hungry, so we ordered a huge plate of 40 wings and some drinks. Man, the wings were good. Not only were they giant (the chickens they came from probably played whatever the chicken equivalent of football is), but they were delicious and juicy. They were double fried so they were extra crispy on the outside, and hot and juicy on the inside. We got a mix of two different flavors -- soy and spicy. The soy was good, the spicy was a bit much for my taste and I could only handle two or three, but my friends seemed to like them. They also have some exotic selections like Okonomiyaki on the menu, but unfortunately we didn't get to try it because it wasn't available on the late night menu. They also have an impressive Japanese/Korean drink selection, including Calpis and various sakes. Will be returning here in the future if I'm in the area!

Chicken is dryer than Caitlyn Jenners vagina. Put some sauce on it people. First time I went here it was really good, but every time since it seems to decline a little more.

Went here Tuesday night with a couple friends and honestly service was great. They greeted us right away..BUT my only problem was where they seated us. They have a really mini table by the bathroom and also near the kitchen. Which I did not like because me? I am not a small person so I had trouble being careful and comfortable. I mean we were sitting under the stairs.. Yeah not so great for my first time there and I'm a girl who absolutely loves Korean food, music and culture. Also I heard more than one music which was a bit disturbing because it was from the kitchen and the main. Other than that food and service was great and my server was adorable so I had to tip her big lol all servers were friendly. Hopefully I'll get a better seat next time though.

Just strolling Chinatown and stumble upon this place. I looove the huge screen tvs. And of coarse they were playing kpop. So everything about the this place is good. The interior were amazing, openness makes it look so good. We had lunch so good, the fries that come with the wings are huge. Totally will go back.

When I order 20 wings, I expect 20 legit wings, not a box of mixed pieces with huge drumsticks. Texture and flavor is still not there yet, falling short of their counterparts in NYC and rival up 611. Soggy and bland meat, direct contrast of the savory chicken pictured. They must step up their bonchon game and take it to another level. Decor is trendy and would be nice to watch a game. I would return because the service is good and I'd like to see their progress!

Only one star because 0 is not an option. Overpriced, loud, quite average to poor food makes this a really really bad choice, ESPECIALLY in Chinatown where you can find so many good bang for the buck places. Go to the Korea-town in north Philly if you're craving really good Korean food. Btw especially awful were the was the okonomiyaki & the Korean seafood pancake. Happy hunting.

The service there was awful. I was waiting for fried chicken to take out for 30 minutes. It was ok. That was not the reason I got upset about. Food was served to other people on the tables first who came at least 15 minutes later than I walked in. so I asked a waitress at the front how come they got the food before me. her answer made me so upset. " I don't know. " really??? that's your first reaction? That is not an appropriate attitude to customers.

The best boneless fried chicken I've ever had. The crispy crunch was unreal. The soy ginger sauce was outstanding, and we asked the waiter for a dash of the spicy sauce to add (since they wouldn't officially mix the two flavors in one order). Got a bottle of Soju on ice for fun. Loved it.

Wings on point! I have been waiting for a good asian style wing place to open in Chinatown for a while. Then Bonchon chicken came around and the food was absolutely great. I have to admit the line was a little long, but thats because I went on grand opening day. However, it was all worth it when my friends and I got our 40 wings. The wings were crips and flavored perfectly. Almost odered another 40. I loved the hot wings with the half and half option. They also had some kind of flattened takoyaki that was pretty great. The place had a unique appearance as well. There were TVs everywhere, which made it a great place to hangout and chow down on wings. The lighting was nice. This is honestly the place to be for game day. EAGLES! Did I mention the huge wall projector? There is a bar in the center and a second floor to the restaurant. The place will be amazing during the spring and summer. The employees were genuinely nice as well. Our server was extremely friendly and took care of the table extremely well. With all these in the atmosphere of the restaurant, I can't wait to go again.

Hype is over rated, food took over 1 hour for Korean Chicken Wings, they were not jumbo wings like I've had at otther places in NJ & NYC. They had little to no sauce on the wings and not meaty. I will recommend other places for this kind of bar food. Not recommened

EDIT!!!!!! I called to get an order for take out and I was startled to hear a girl nearly yelling, "HI THANKS FOR CALLING BONCHON WE AREN'T TAKING ANY TO GO ORDERS" followed by a click. She had hung up before I could react or say anything. So I call back confused to look into it. I was told no take out orders over the phone because some other folks did not pick up their food. So said, yeah sure put it on my credit card. The guy told me that they are unable to take credit cards... even though Bonchon is a franchise?? I mean you can download an app right now for free to take those payments. His suggestion was to come in and order takeout in person, wait an hour and a half for my food in the restaurant then enjoy... Because he couldn't just take the order over the phone.I'm confused why a restaurant would punish other well to do, paying customers. Apparently the only way to get this food to go is to go to BonChon, place an order at the bar, wait 1.5 hours then I can leave with it. Serious rough start. It's a problem when a restaurant is turning away good paying customers. HEY BONCHON - I want to give you money in exchange for your product.. why am i not able to do that...? Get it together Grand opening, Shrand shopening. Working out the kinks of a restaurant may be challenging. But one should be humble and kind while figuring it out. There were 4 hostesses and 1 manager behind the front desk not doing much of anything but playing with their hair and iPhones . I watched one hostess turn a group of 4 away by saying "we are closed" it was 10:25p and she said they closed at 11p (website says they close at 2a). My takeout took 55 minutes for 20 wings (I was running late and still made it with plenty of time to spare). While waiting for my food the group of hostesses were complaining about the table that had just left. My advice is for the manager to take a stand and really customer service Great food, glad it's in Philadelphia finally. I'll always come back because the wings are just so good.

Bon Chon, the new hot spot in Chinatown? This placed just opened and I wanted to see what all the hype is about, so the wife and I tried it. Reading all the reviews about the long wait time, we decided to order the take out. The girl who answered the phone was nice and real helpful with choosing items off the menu. We knew we wanted to try the chicken, but needed that something extra for me to be completely satisfied with a meal. I'm not a big fan of just eating chicken. She recommended the Salmon ball, which I saw some great reviews on yelp about, so we tried it. As expected, the wait for take out was an hour. The restaurant is located on Cherry Street. I drove this small street many times before and never thought anything of it. Tonight was different. Bon Chon, with its two flaming heaters and bright sign lit up the place. It is definitely the gem of the block. I went in to pick up my food and the interior was just as great. As soon as you step in, you're overloaded with TVs and a giant bar on the wall. This is my kind of place! I hope they play games during football season. Now, on to the food. We got and order of half soy garlic and half spicy. They were both cooked to perfection! I like the soy a lot better than the spicy. The spicy was good and a lot better than others i have tasted because the spice is not so overwheming that you lose the flavor. Surprisingly the star of the dinner was the recommended SALMON BALL. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it was like kani salad wrapped in cooked sushi if that makes sense. As I was leaving, there was a line of people waiting to be seated and a few more people coming in to pick up there order. I can see why the long wait time and can see that Bon Chon will be the new staple of Chinatown's food and entertainment. The wait is the price you pay for premium food. I can't wait to come back just to sit at the bar and see what specialty drinks they have to offer.

If you're looking for Korean chicken similar to cafe soho, this isn't the place. The chicken here is heavily breaded with not enough meat. The taste is bearable, but when thinking of the tasty chicken in Korean town my tastebuds become dissatisfied. It was pretty cold during our visit which was a disappointment. I asked for all wings but they only gave me drums. We probably won't return again.

Came here for a work happy hour and dinner and we had an amazing time. The wings and strips were so good and the perfect level of spice (but I'm Indian so I love spice!!) I would definitely recommend the fries, they are so crispy and delicious, and lychee soju (sweet and not too strong.) o love the daikon pickle that comes with the wings!

First of all i wish you guys the best of luck with the new business. Now let's get to the point. I came on the grand opening night and ordered for take out at 6:30pm i ordered for 20pcs strips and one of the hostess/waiter said it will take about an hour, and i was fine with it and try to kill an hour. An hour pass and i came back thinking it was done and what did i get? I get an apology saying that "we RAN OUT strips and the kitchen guys did not inform me. would you like to switch to wings instead?" So i politely ask her "ok change it to wings but how long is it going to take? Are you going to rush the order out?" And she said "oh if i put this order in you will have to wait another hour, I'm so sorry for this." So i waited and kill an hour of my life for nothing in this 15° weather. Owner/manager would not even do anything. Thanks bonchon philly!! You guys rock!!

Just my honest opinion, this place has nothing on cafe soho been to soho twice and it was all good but just so happened I said let me try this spot out, the females greeted me great helped me place my order wonderfully told me it will be a half hour ok cool now heres the kicker the young lady called me 15mins later so I knew from there something ain't right so when I said that was fast the young lady agreed as well, the chicken didn't have that good crispy taste because most likely they gave me old chicken not mad at cha but just wanted to give my honest opinion, the two stars were for the greeters.

I'm familiar with this chain from living in NYC and was excited to grab some wings before getting (back) on a Greyhound bus. We were on a REALLY tight time frame, but the team at this location was AWESOME. Everyone we talked to was super nice and helpful and did their best to help us make that bus. Absolutely made our night :)

I was so excited they were coming to Philly (finally). Took the family for a late lunch on a sat and got seated immediately and food came out quickly. Took advantage of the happy hr drink special and lunch menu. Didn't bother to get anything else besides fried wings- half soy sauce and half spicy. So good. And with a side of radish. Just wish the space was bigger because I imagine the wait will suck at dinner time. But welcome to philly!

I come here because soho is just too far for me! The chicken is not as crispy but I do believe there was an improvement from they first started. The salmon ball doesn't taste as great as it jus opened. The place sometimes gets way too loud with the music video making it hard to have conversations with friends.

BONCHON IN PHILLY? YASSS! No more driving to soho(That place takes forever anyway). I came here with two friends, and got seated right away. There's a million flat screen TV's, a nice bar area and the seating is plush. I like the large windows out front, although it's only a view of the street, during the summer it would be nice to have natural sunlight enter the room. Obviously we went for some chicken. We got the half&half which is soy garlic and spicy. The spicy was spicy enough where it didn't melt my tongue off and I could actually eat more than one. Sometimes too spicy throws your taste buds off but not here! The soy garlic is very yummy too. We also ordered their seasoned fries and salmon avocado ball. LET ME JUST SAY, both were so damn good. I didn't even read what the fries were seasoned with but damn they were good. And the salmon avocado ball, is like heaven in your mouth. The sauce is similar to a Kani salad. We split the salmon avocado ball between three but it was so good that we should've each gotten one. We also got strawberry and watermelon soju, which was also very good!! I wanted to try all the flavors! NOW, our waitress, Mercedes, was AWESOME. And so is the rest of their staff. Attentive and sweet. Even though they had a crazy grand opening, the staff seemed to handle it very well. They didn't look overwhelmed and all had smiles on their faces as soon as you walk in. Some of the reviews on here are ridiculous. Give them a break. They LITERALLY just opened. Sometimes things don't aways go your way the first time you try something new. Doesn't mean you shouldn't go back! Opening a new business is hard and I'm sure management is doing their best to make sure everyone is happy. I highly recommend this place. I'll definitely be back!

I absolutely loved this restaurant. The service was fantastic, the food came out quickly, and most important everything was delicious!!!! My boyfriend and I ordered four things off the menu and our favorite hands down were the wings (you have to try them!), crispy, meaty and delicious. There were great drink specials too starting at 11pm. We will most definitely be coming back. :)

One of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. I know it's their first week of opening.. but there were a number of large problems and lots of time and money wasted. I'll probably be back once they get their stuff together because I really want to like this place! We arrived at 7:15, put our name down, sat at 8:15, and didn't leave till 9:45. What happened: My friend and I put our name and number down at 7:15 and we were told a 40 min wait. It was more like an hour, but that was okay. We sat down at 8:15. We sat down and were told the chicken takes 40 minutes to cook. That kinda shocked me after waiting almost an hour already.. but it was still fine. We ordered a combo large order and toppoki. The toppoki took almost 40 minutes to come out. What? That should have taken 20 max.. it was fine though. Nice and spicy. Our waiter was nice and kept apologizing for our food taking so long.. eventually he told us the wings were ready but the large drums would take longer. He asked us if we wanted only wings or to wait until they were all ready.. we ended up having the wings sent out first and having the legs sent out after. Now here's the kicker. After more than an hour of placing our order, THE WINGS WERE COLD. They were nothing special at that point. Overly sauced and getting soggy. What???? We ate them anyway cause we didn't want to wait any longer and got the drums to go. The bill was over $50 for 2 people for a bottle of coke, frozen toppoki and soggy chicken wings. I should really give this review 1 star but the waiter was nice and it was opening week. Also the menu has some interesting items that I want to try, but gosh, stay away for the next couple weeks till they get it together.

I've never had Korean Fried Chicken before, and although we had to wait about ~45 minutes before we received our order (we got a take-out because for sit-in, you have to wait longer), I thought it was really good!! Oh and just for reference, my friends and I came on a Friday evening around 5:45/6. I shared a half and half (soy ginger and spicy) wings and drums with a friend, and another friend got the strips.. my friends and I all really enjoyed our chicken haha it's worth a try if you don't mind the time and if you've never had Korean Fried Chicken before and you like chicken

A lot of people told me to come try this place out. I was excited but when i did, it was pretty disappointing. I mean the service is nice and all but the restaurant is quite overpriced. I don't mind paying a lot of a meal but i'd rather have something satisfying. The food is pretty typical that anyone could possibly make. The wings are similar to Soho, crunchy but has no flavor. If i was asked to come again, i would probably hesitate.

Came here with a group of friends to see what the hype was about. When I came it was super crowded and there was a wait. I probably ended up waiting for a good 30mins before I was seated. My friends and I ordered 40 wings with half of them being spicy and the half was soy sauce favored. Double fried chicken wings take about 20-30 mins to make because of the double frying part, so it was an additional 40-50 mins of wait time before the food came. I'll admit this place serves the best double fried wings in Chinatown. But I don't know if I'll be coming back any time soon due to the long wait time. They don't do take out orders through the phone

I'd like to start off with explaining how KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) is made. The wings are fried twice, then sauced. Each step is time consuming, I know because I've attempted this difficult task at home. So for people complaining about waiting, 1. They just opened not too ago and 2. BonChon Chicken just takes a long time to be made fresh. Alright, on to the good stuff, the chicken. The chicken is fried to perfect crispiness and the crunch from every bite is unlike any other fried chicken. This is why, to me, the wings are the way to go. They offer the best (max) crunch-to-meat ratio. As for the sauces, half and half is the standard. You'll want to cool off with some delicious soy garlic after a few bites of the spicy spicy wings. BonChon is known around the world for a reason, they mastered the sweet, salty, tangy, spice ratio for their sauce and it's why their chicken is so addicting. I also tried a few appetizers, all of which were outstanding. I like the salmon avocado ball the most, although it could use more avocado and salmon. Don't forget to grab a mango soju to go with your wings. Annyong.

Wings: Absolutely delicious. Maybe even the best I've had in Philly. They are deep fried asian style and have that nice crispy finish to them that you just don't find in American hot wings. The hot sauce that they come painted in is HOT. I may have shed a tear or two in that painful ecstasy. If your tolerance for spice isn't high, you can ask them to take it down a notch. Drinks: Standard stuff. Beer + full liquor bar. They do daily specials, but nothing to write home about. We tried the watermelon soju cocktail once - we ordered a pitcher and were mildly disappointed when an average sized bottle arrived at the table. One night out, we told our waiter that we were looking to consume something a little on the stronger side and he suggested a custom house cocktail that would "make us go blind" -but don't worry, we retained our sight! Atmosphere: Really fun. The entire front of the bar is open to the street which is really nice in the summer months. Noise level is manageable, music is good, TV screens alternate between Asian music videos and all relevant sporting events. The best part is that they're open till 2am every night (except Sunday, I think) - it's so comforting to know that Bonchon has my back whenever the craving hits.

I really wanted to love this place but sadly it did not live up to expectations. My boyfriend and I stopped in late on a Sunday night recently thinking there wouldn't be much of a wait. When we got there we were told there would be an hour wait but luckily there were two seats on the end of the bar available. From my experience, the environment is pretty typical for a Korean wing restaurant with trendy k-pop videos playing in the background. The staff was very friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. Beer selection was a little disappointing. Let's get to the food. The appetizers were outstanding. The salmon avocado ball is a must try! The dumplings were crispy and flavorful , some of the best I've had, covered in soy garlic and spicy sauce. The problem was the chicken. We ordered half and half and got both wings and strips and they just weren't that good. They were lacking in sauce and crispiness. Since Bonchon chicken just recently opened I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm hoping I just stopped in on a bad night so eventually I hope to get back there to give them another chance but until then Cafe Soho is the place to go for Korean fried wings in Philly.

Yup, Im gonna grade down for the 85 minute wait. I suppose I should take some of the blame, after all I was with 4 friends so a table for 5 is slightly harder to fit in compared to a 4 or 2 top. However, there's a few things not quite right yet with the place, in my opinion. First off, they told us it would be a 45 minute wait. We were ok with that and waited on the side-walk out front since it was a packed Saturday night with great weather. However after it got past the 45 min wait, my friend, who's name our table was under, had to repeatedly ask what the status was. They made little effort to keep us up to date and we watched larger tables get seated. The staff was friendly but perhaps less trained than they should be for such a place in demand. We stuck with it to try it figuring we'd maybe never bother again. The food was very good. We read yelp reviews so were ready to order before the server left our table on her first visit. The sesame ginger salad was great and for around $9 it easily fed all 5 of us with left over. We ordered 60 pieces of chicken and the chicken was really good. The spicy was very hot so I was glad to alternate between that and the garlic pieces. I recommend ordering the two flavor. Wish they had more flavors on the menu though. The floor was grease slicked and the stairs were scary - so be very careful to hang on to that railing! I'd like to stop in when they fade in popularity and or a less popular time. It seemed like there wasn't a single person that left the bar the entire hour and half we waited for our table. I wish Federal Donuts would open a place with a bar that was open all night. Their chicken is even better in my opinion and dry rubbed flavors more appealing to me. All in all, Im glad Bonchon is in philly. I hope it gets more efficient and faster.

Bon Chon is okay. Service was friendly and the decor is pretty clean and modern. The soy garlic wings taste good, but they are very salty. The hot wings have a medium heat. The wings are nice and crunchy. I love the pickled radish side that come with the wings. The bugolgi bibimbap is pretty standard and tasted good. I like that it comes in a hotpot. The food cam pretty quickly and the service was attentive. I'm not dying to go back, but it was all pretty good.

We walked right in, no wait on a Friday at 9pm. Win!These wings are worth a visit. They are well flavored, crispy, tender, delicious....simply put, just finger lickin good! We started with potstickers which were crispy and full of delicious pork. We use this plate to help change up the taste with all the wings we ordered We also got edamame, which I know isn't the most impressive of dishes, but it was. Each piece was salted, the beans came right out without trying, and they didn't taste frozen!! It was a simple appetizer that hit the spot for sure. Of course, we ordered ALOT of wings. We went half and half because I never like the feeling of not having tried it all. The hot sauce had a kick, but it wasn't anything that I couldn't handle. And the soy ginger sauce was a little sweet for me but had great flavor overall. I would definitely recommend getting half and half so you don't get bored of the same flavor. Each piece is a perfect balance of crunch, flavor and meat. Idk how they made the wings so crunchy without drying out the meat. This place is known for wings, try them. They also give you pickled radishes. EAT THEM. they help cool down your palate so you can actually enjoy your food. The TVs had Kpop on nonstop. Super relaxed causal feel to the whole place with excellent service. It's a good change up from the typical hot wings and worth trying.

Wow! The chicken here is finger-lickin' good!!! I heard great things about this place and thought maybe it was overhyped.... until I took my first bite of the amazing wings. We ordered a mixed bucket of wings and drumsticks. The sauce options are soy & garlic, spicy or both - that's right I said both! They let you have a "half and half" option where half the order is spicy and the other half is sweet. I loved the soy and garlic sauce, it was light and delicious to the point that the wings did not need additional dipping sauce. The only thing that this place can improve on is the service, it takes over 30 minutes for takeout but it is well worth it! The interior of the restaurant does not have a particular theme it is just trying too hard to be modern. It is like a nightclub-sports bar-fried chicken place in a random alley in Chinatown. They have top shelf alcohol (like a night club) and a lot of big screen high definition TV (like sports bars and yet they only sell fried chicken. Definitely worth checking out!

Another lucky visit for me i guess??? Decided to celebrate a bday here on a Saturday night (St. Patty's day weekend). Since they didn't take reservations, we had someone that was already there put our name on the list for 10 people. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately...so their "name on the list" method worked out well for us! Luck of the Irish!! The area we got was a bit awkward...i'd really like to meet the person that designed Philly Bonchon... the space is just poorly done. We were in the back, where there is a row of tables, which i assume are 3 tables for 4... or put them together for a large party area for 12. The wall there is just awkward for the server and a bit claustrophobic for diners. Anyway, we were lucky to get seated on time...so we ordered some wings.. and by some, i mean 120 wings half and half. I dunno what my cousin was thinking...half the party were girls lol. Buttttt, Bonchon usually has small wings, right??? Thats what I got grand opening day, that's what NYC has, and that's what the new Fort Lee one served as well... But what the hey, its my lucky day.. Luck of the Irish again. we get served BIG ASS WINGS. wtf is that? I'm talking PJ Whelihan size wings...plus, i think they added some flour coating/breading, so they are even bigger. They didn't have this when i went grand opening. ANDDDDD the wings came out super fast! and hot!!! Luck of the Irish i tell yah!!! 2 plates of 40 came out, the last 40 would be another 20 minutes....we ended up eating only 70 wings.. we had to take about 50 home. Either way, thumbs up for the kitchen not dropping the ball on wings. Sauces were still great. The spicy is actually too spicy for me.. so if i had 10 wings, 3 would be spicy 7 would be soy. Other orders with ratings Salad with fried tofu: 4/5 tofu was pretty dope. greens were standard Salmon Avocado ball: 4/5 salmon was pretty bomb, sauce was nice Lychee soju: 2/5 overpriced, little soju Mango soju: 2/5 overpriced, little soju bottle of jack: 1/5 overpriced.. shoudl've did pitcher of beer pistachio dessert: 3.5/5 pretty decadent The alcohol here is just overpriced for the quantity. The soju is fun, but it's really not much for $20. I think a price point of $12 is reasonable. The jack bottle ($75) was tiny. The mark up was expected, but give us a free mixer or something--I paid an extra $7 for 3 sodas. I had a good time there. Server was nice, despite our large party and multiple orders.

I went for a quick bite on a Saturday night around 7pm. I say "quick" only because I was dining alone that evening, and was able to sit at the bar. The wait for a table was pretty long, I think I heard the hostess say 30 minutes or so. From other reviews, it seems the wait can be an hour on a pretty regular basis during peak times, so just keep that in mind. The space is new construction, and has a "Sleep Inn" attached. This block of Cherry Street is experiencing some revival, and there's some other businesses there, along with a Simply Shabu place across the street. The decor is pretty modern, and they have a full bar with TV's as well. The bar stools are uncomfortable, as they have no back and are rather large and not padded. The padded chairs and benches at the tables also do not have backs on them that I could see. This is a major drawback, as it makes sitting for too long uncomfortable. This seems to be a trend in some restaurants, which I don't understand. The service is a little spotty...the bartender was very nice, and did his best to fill the gaps left by the servers. I ordered the shrimp siu mai (fried) which is drizzled with a honey dijon mustard sauce, and a 5-piece drumstick order with the garlic soy sauce. Both were very good, overall. The fried siu mai were pretty good sized, six of them, and while I'd have enjoyed a more traditional sauce, the honey dijon was nice. The drumsticks were good sized, and all about the same size, and coated with a nicely seasoned batter that was crispy and just right. The sauce was a slightly sweet garlic soy, also very nice. The one thing I'd say about the chicken that wasn't great was that the actual chicken meat was a bit bland. Not sure if they're brining their chicken, or not, but a good brine would likely increase the flavor of the meat considerably, and make it really outstanding. Service-wise, the feedback is a little less positive. The food was slow to arrive, and the server that brought the Siu Mai provided neither utensils nor napkins. I had to get the attention of the bartender to bring them...this took a few minutes, as he was busy at the time. I also asked the bartender for a bowl of white rice, which came quickly, and he did not charge me for, apologizing for the utensil snafu. It took about 20 minutes for the chicken to arrive after the Siu Mai. I asked our server for some of the same sauce used on the chicken, to put on the rice. He said they didn't do "sauce on the side" but he'd see if they'd put some on top of the rice, which would have been OK. He came back, and said they wouldn't provide any sauce on the rice, but gave me some soy to use. Can't say I appreciated that very much, since this is just a soy garlic sauce, nothing extravagant. Seems just a bit prima donna to me. I mean, really...this is a fried chicken chain we're talking about. I can only assume that this means you either have your chicken with sauce already applied, or none at all. The daikon on the side was nice. So, some hits and misses; it's OK, and may be a good takeout option. If you plan to eat in, you'll just have to deal with the waits, and some inflexibility regarding reasonably simple requests. It's good, but again...it's decent fried chicken, nothing else.

Horrible service. Rude bartenders. The current one overcharged me and gave me the most disgusted look when I tried to confirm the price. After all the good things I've heard, I am incredibly upset about the terrible service I had.

In dire anticipation of BonChon's opening of its Philadelphia location, my husband and I dined in, for lunch, on its soft opening (2/18). As with any soft/ grand opening of an establishment, there will be the usual growing pains. We expect it of any business, newly opened. I've had BonChon on several occasions in NYC and Jersey City so I knew what to expect in terms of the menu items. My husband, on the other hand, was a bit confused about the difference between the drums and wings. And from reading the other reviews, it seems that there are many folks who have never had the real BonChon and as a result do not understand the menu. The "wings" are actually the first and second pieces of the actual chicken's wing, separated. The first piece looks like a little miniature drumstick and the middle piece (also my fave) has that delicious piece of fat (don't judge me but I call it the armpit). If we lived in a perfect world, chicken wings would be two middle pieces joined by the "armpit" although I don't know what that would actually mean for the chicken... Anyway, the "drums" are actual chicken drumsticks... the big ones. I know you've seen them at the supermarket. Perfect for people who want more chicken and less sauce. We ordered the small wings in half and half sauce. Of course this meant we would receive a mixture of first and second pieces of the wings. My husband loves the drumstick shaped pieces (another reason I married him), we shared this order with a some white rice and extra crunchy radish. We also ordered the Salmon Avocado Ball.... I had this for the very first time this past fall in NYC while wedding dress shopping and I've been an addict ever since! Everyone should have at least one Salmon Avocado Ball in their lifetime. We are so glad there is a BonChon in Philly! We will be back! UPDATE: We went back much sooner than expected (last night) so rather than post an updated review, I will just continue where I left off. Since they've only been open three days and I've had BonChon wings twice, I'm feeling blessed! We returned much sooner because we discovered some friends who NEVER had BonChon. Our wait for a table was an hour because they were swamped... I was pleasantly surprised that we got our table on time. Because we brought some friends, we were able to order a variety of other items I wanted to try. In addition to Half and Half Wings and a couple Salmon Balls, we also ordered Potstickers, a couple orders of Bulgogi Sliders, & Bulgogi Bibimbob. Potstickers, I couldn't manage a photo because half of the potstickers were gone by the time my camera was out. I need not say more! Bulgogi Bibimbob really hit the spot. As a Korean, I was really regretting not ordering the bibimbob on the soft opening day. And everyday since had been a struggle. Craving satisfied! (Ask for extra hot sauce)

Ordered 40 wings, order of takoyaki, and french fries for a group of five. Wings were small but had great flavor; I really enjoyed the spicy one in particular. Takoyaki leaves much to be desired. Ours were a little overcooked and came out pretty dark. The sauce was a little sour and the bonito flakes just didn't work for me. Fries were really well cooked and pretty addicting. As my old roommate Jones would say, they were on point. Service was a little slow. Waitresses are cute but a little lackadaisical. They're open late though if you're ever in Chinatown late at night. Seems like they could get pretty busy and would be great drunk food.

This review is for takeout only unfortunately. Called in and my order was very efficiently and thoughtfully taken down with an estimated time of 30minutes for food being ready to pick up. Came in and started regretting not having a sit-down meal inside the space as the ambiance was really positive and energetic. We were worried about having to wait due to the dinner rush but there were a few tables downstairs. There were a few isolated diners at the spacious bar enjoying their beers and food while watching Sports on the huge TVs-- instantly jealous! The chicken was great! Ordered an XL size for the housemates as well as an order of takoyaki. We got half and half seasonings (half spicy and half soy garlic). They were crispy and super flavorful. As a spicy food lover, my favorite was the spicy but I'm glad we tried both. The level of heat is higher than expected which was a pleasant surprise. I instantly felt guilty for Soho Chicken as this is a lot closer and gives them a true run for the money.. Takoyaki was decent, too! Super friendly service which isn't surprising as they just opened. Hope this place continues to delivery quality food and smiles. The set up for entering the restaurant is a little funny and it took me a second to find the door (it's been a long Wednesday) --- that door could really use an official marker instead of the make shift paper signs.

I was rooting for Bonchon to be my Soho-replacement for a wings fix, since it's takes 1/3 of the time to get there. So after 4 or 5 trips to Bonchon (and several dozen to Soho over the past few years), here's a head to head wing comparison: 1. Size - the wings sizes are similar 2. Crisp - Bonchon wings have roughly 80-95% of the crisp 3. Flavor - I only go for the spicy wings, and Bonchon wings are hit and miss; sometimes they're super spicy and other times not so much; Soho is spicier on average and has a more complex flavor (a hint of sweet in their spicy wings) 4. Cost - comparable, but Bonchon is cheaper when ordering large quantities (e.g. 40 wings) 5. Speed - Bonchon is faster, hands down 6. Drumsticks (Bonchon menu only) - who orders drumsticks at a korean wings spot? Same guy that orders drumsticks at Arby's First couple of times the Bonchon wings were noticeably not as crisp/flavorful as Soho but the last 2 times they have really closed the gap. Can't say the wings are quite Soho-level yet but the improvement is nice and the convenience/value can't be beat. Easily deserves 4 stars

I had came here with friends for a get together and it was a great atmosphere for us. The food was pretty good, the spicy chicken was spicier than I thought! Presentation was great and I would recommend this place to anyone!

This was my third attempt at getting a table at Bonchon. We knew it opened at 5 and we arrived at 5:10 (on a Saturday) and the place was already at max capacity. We were told that it would be an hour and 15 minutes wait for a table, but it ended up being only 45 minutes. My two friends and I were seated at a four top in the loft. The tables were a bit cramped and it was particularly hot up there. The TV screens with K Pop videos playing were a nice addition. Our waitress was very pleasant and nice. She informed us that the chicken could take 20-40 minutes from the time we ordered, so we promptly ordered 30 of the half and half wings. The wait for the chicken was only 20 minutes. The spicy chicken wings were pretty hot and the soy garlic ones were perfect for someone who likes a strong flavor but not so much heat. For example, I started with a spicy wing, then had three soy garlic and then had another spicy wing followed by three soy garlic. The side of pickled daikon radish also cut the heat of the spicy wings. The drink selection is limited, and their prices range between $4.50-$6 for beer outside Happy Hour, so we decided it wasn't worth it. Overall, this was a great experience with great food. I highly recommend planning ahead, putting your name down for a table and explore Chinatown while you wait.

Finally a Bonchon in Philly! GREAT! I'm glad they started to serve during lunch hours. I know that this just opened recently so they are still ironing things out.. Customer service is awesome, fast and friendly service. Chicken is awesome as always, takoyaki needs some work to do... doesn't really taste like takoyaki, but its a Korean restaurant.. I'll try this again during dinner and compare the service

I loved Bon chon chicken in NYC but for some reason that I can't pin point, this experience was not as good. The waitress was very nice, the fried rice was great but the chicken tasted very salty. The air conditioning upstairs was very cold and I just did not feel the same ambiance as the NYC location.

My group of 5 stopped in last night around 8pm and the wait was about 40 minutes (luckily BarLy is right around the corner for waiting). Our server was helpful and attentive. We ordered a bunch of apps to start (seafood scallion pancake, japchae, salmon ball, bulgogi sliders), which were all quite tasty but I'm here to talk about the chicken. We ordered a mix of the wings & drumsticks (half hot, half soy garlic). Maybe the menu is confusing, or maybe my friends & I aren't that bright but we thought "drumsticks" meant the little wing drumsticks. What they mean is an actual drumstick though, as in the leg. We all preferred the wings to the drumsticks. The wings were juicier (the big drumsticks were kind of dry). As for the sauce, I preferred the hot. It was spicy with a nice kick. The crunch factor was perfect all around. We got a ton of food and each got at least 1 drink and the total including tax & tip was only $32 per person. Right now there is only a 1 person bathroom stall, but as I was waiting in line I was informed by an employee that the other bathroom will be opening up once the Sleep Inn next door opens (I guess they're connected). My obligatory comparison to Cafe Soho's wings: I do think Soho's are a bit better (more saucey), but Bonchon's chicken is delicious and a lot more conveniently located.

Went on a Friday during lunch hours (11am - 3pm). It was fairly crowded with about three groups of large people and a few smaller groups/couples scattered around. This is not a good place to go on your hour long lunch break. From when we were seated to when we got our food was an hour alone. I was in the upper level seating area with a friend and it was a little obvious that we were being passed over in terms of service and attentiveness for the large groups of people. Makes sense but there should really be more than 1 server for an entire level to try and mitigate that. I order 8 wings, half and half. The friend ordered 8 strips, soy and garlic. The strips were a lot larger than I thought they would be but not at all consistent in shape. He said there was a good bit of meat on them. The wings were on the smaller side but there were a few drumsticks mixed in which was a nice surprise! It might have been because they gave me a 8 soy and garlic wings instead of half and half though. The sauce on the wings is less a sauce and more like a coating. Very thick and heavy. The biggest thing to note is that the spicy is incredibly spicy. Ridiculously spicy. Painfully spicy. I'm Korean. I've eaten Korean food all my life. My mouth honestly started to hurt after 2 spicy wings in a row. They have a full bar but don't have a bar menu with specific prices on liquor and stuff. Just what they offer on draft and bottles. My friend had Jameson on the rocks. The Jameson was $8 and the rocks were $2. It's a great place and the wings were definitely worth it. They have drink specials for every day of the week except Friday and Saturday.

Four of us split 30 soy-garlic boneless strips and an order of seasoned fries. Soy Garlic Boneless Strips ($28.95): each about the size of a chicken select from McDonalds, these were nice and crispy. The fried texture was more like a thin crispy fish tempura fry than the usual type of fry on a chicken tender. The sauce was okay, a little sweet but nothing special. All chicken is served with a side of fresh daikon (radish), cut up into little squares and is crunchy, fresh and delicious. Seasoned fries ($6.95): the parmesan coating made these fries a little more special. However, not worth seven dollars. For a small meal or snack, four people under $40 is nice, but there are better things in Philly to snack on. Good service, sweet waitresses and our water glasses were never empty, however, the food isn't worth it here.

This was my first time going to Bonchon, and it was delicious! The wings were flavorful, crispy, and fall off the bone, and the salmon avocado ball was amazing! This place is similar to Soho in Northeast, but has a lot more variety to choose from. The food came out really quickly, too. I definitely recommend this place!

I've only tried the chicken so far, but it was great! Not exactly what I remember as authentic Korean fried chicken from my days living there, but still great. The sauces are wonderful. I recommend getting half and half since both flavors are pretty damn delicious. I look forward to trying the bibimbap and other Korean dishes, but for now, I'm definitely sold on the chicken.

My friends and I trekked 45 min through the snow and horrendous traffic to finally try BonChon this past Saturday. And I have to say, we were surely not left disappointed. We've been anticipating the opening for months now. My expectations weren't too high because they hadn't even been open for a week yet. I'm sure they had share of kinks to work out, as any new business would. We were seated right away. As the hostess and our waitress was very attentive to our needs. We ordered the XL half and half wings (half soy, half spicy). It was definitely missing the crunch I was used to but the flavor was definitely there. We also had the salmon avocado ball and I'm at lost for words. It was nothing short of heaven in my mouth. The fries and soju were delicious. I definitely recommend the watermelon soju and strawberry yogurt soju. I can't wait to return. I'm already craving it again so I guess my visit will be sooner than later.

Can't go wrong with late night food specials. More importantly, it was connected to our hotel and still had a nice late night vibe at 11 30pm. As far as food, the dumplings were crazy good -it's like the cook the dumplings then spread a good sauce on them then bake or broil them to make the sauce stick and the dumplings crisp. I also love the fact that they had bottled Fanta and plenty of tvs at the bar

Went here on sunday. Ordered - Large wings 15pcs + drums 8pcs 29.95 half & half and Bibimbap bulgogi 10.95 Bibimbap bulgogi was ok. They need to work on their sauce. It wasn't spicy but had a weird texture. I think the yellow radish made the dish alittle bitter & it doesn't work well in bibimbap. wings we got half & half of spicy and garlic. Spicy had a good taste I liked and the wings were crispy. I just wish they added more sauce towards both of the wings. Garlic, wasn't a big fan of the favor. biggest let down was the pickle radish. No favor at all and it wasn't even worth eating with the chicken. Cafe Soho does it better and man I love me some pickle radish with fried chicken. 3/5 stars

Had to open a Yelp account just to write this review.... I will be back next week!!!! I'm so happy To have Bon Chon in the heart of Chinatown. How perfect to have the grand Opening on Chinese New Year too 2/19/2015. Expect a wait for this place because of high demand. Expect great food with fun atmosphere filled with huge TV screens. Congratulations Bon Chon for bringing diversity in Chinatown!

I'm from MA so I have been to BonChons that operate like well oiled machines. I have never waited more than 10 mins for my 20 half n half wings. (I order this at every location.) I am a BonChon freak and used to go to one every weekend. Here we waited 40 mins to an hour for our food to come out. Our fantastic waiter Mikey T forewarned us, so we understood. This place is new. It was delicious! Try the kimchi coleslaw with your wings. The spicy is not as spicy as the other locations I have been to at all, so I knocked off a star. That and the nonstop kpop playing from all angles and on all screens made me a little woozy. (I still have some side effects.)

Chicken was good, some pieces were over cooked, but the annoying thing was that they charged $2 for extra raddish. Yes it's just an additional $2, but if I spend that much on XL chicken, and additional dish and appetizers for 2 people, you would think they would just give me extra raddish. Maybe I'm spoiled by Korean restaurants where they freely refill side dishes, but it just detracted from the experience.

This is strictly for my take-out experience and their their wings. I was told it was going to be an 1 hour and 15 minutes wait. I was fine with this. The call was a little weird. The didn't tell me the total price. I actually had to ask for it. And the price she told me wasn't even correct. Clearly, they don't know their menus yet because when I was orderly, they kept pausing me to go check if it was on the menu. I understand they just opened so the employees are probably trying to get into the jist of everything but I wish things were a bit more organized. The wings are great. The sizings of the wings is a little bit off for me. They sell them in smalls, medium, large, and extra large. I order 20 pieces of half&half medium sized wings and the size weren't consistent. They would give two medium drumsticks and everything else is rather small. They also strategically laid on top so I thought everything i got would be this size but it wasn't. The side of white radish was rather tragic. The didn't even give me enough to fit one layer at the bottom of the foam bowl. TLDR: Food is great but somewhat misleading. Wait is long. Service is unorganized.

Decided to try BonChon at the last minute on our way home, which was exactly at 5 pm. Anytime after 5:15 pm is most likely a wait (we are looking at a huge line). So my advice is to go early or late (after 11 pm, since they're open till 2 am). Now for the review of the chickens itself. You get to choose between wings, drumsticks, or strips; as for the sauces, there's soy garlic and hot sauce. I've personally tried the soy garlic and my verdict is that it's 3.5 stars. I've had other soy garlic Korean fried chickens and BonChon need to make their a bit more flavorful. In terms of crunchiness, I give it a 3 stars. The first bite is crunchy but even then not that much, the later bites definitely loses its punch. Another positive thing about BonChon is that they offer a variety of Korean dishes (pancakes, avocado ball, bulgogi rice etc.). I recommend trying those if you are new to the culture. On another note, we tried the seasoned Parmesan fries while waiting for the wings and they were rather fun :) crunchy and flavorful throughout. Last thing is the bar. Typical beers on draft (only remember blue moon), which is never bad. They also offer a very expansive range of flavor soju. Lychee soju would be my favorite. I'll update if there's anything new to add :)

I lived in Korea for 2 hours and feel pretty confident in the accuracy of the following statements. - It's atmosphere is authentic. - The fried chicken is good but not 'addictive-good' as they claim. - They have Korean beers and soju cocktails. Which is enough to keep me coming back. - The bull dak is similar to one of my favorite Korean foods, dak galbi, but has made my butt sick both times after eating it. I hope they fix whatever cheap ingredients are effecting the bull dak because the taste is there it should just come with a warning sign.

So today would actually be my fourth time coming to see if I can get a better wait time . Approximate wait time today was 45 mins for party of 2 but surprisingly hostess actually got us in quicker . So I'm happy to say bonchon has step their game up . As for the food we've ordered the combo of wings and drums half and half . Tasty as always . It's crack chicken cause they're so addicting . I'm originally from Boston so I've had bonchon in a few of their other locations . They're pretty much the same . We also order the salmon avocado ball . It was good but their portion comparing to the one in Boston and nyc is a lil bit smaller . Their chicken sliders is good as well . Food came out pretty fast . We didn't have to wait long for it . I wasn't too happy with my side of rice cause it was a lil soggy . Coming from an asian person I don't like my rice soggy . As for the pickled radish that comes along with the chicken , it's a little less flavor maybe because it's wasn't pickled long enough . Overall the food were great . My waitress was on point . I'm glad to say I would be returning and hopefully I'll try dessert next time . Thank you for being so close to home .

We used to be a big fan of Soho Cafe, but earlier in the year the quality just changed. We switched to Bonchon when they opened in Philly. We love the marination here and the size of the wings are good, we always order the Soy Garlic flavor. Our favorite appetizer here is the Salmon Avocado Ball, it's to die for! The only "problem" we have I think is whenever we specifically ask for just chicken wings, no drumsticks, they always say that they can't separate it. Or sometimes a server would say "OK" and then still come back with a plate of mixed wings and drumsticks. It confuses me because on the menu, the wings and drumsticks have difference pricing. I just want wings, not drumsticks, is that so hard? As for the soju, I think I prefer Soho better. Aside from that, their customer service is okay. I have a service dog, so sometimes when I have her, I call ahead and tell them that and they are able to accommodate me. Good for the price, nice atmosphere with multiple flat screens with music (and a big projector screen), open til 2 AM, and only 12 minutes away from where we live. No complaints there. Tip: it's better when you eat there rather than ordering take-out.

The chicken marinade was good. I got the soy and garlic and the hot and spicy. They were both delicious. Spicy could have been spicier. But in general the flavor could have been more prominent in the chicken. I think soho has a stronger marinade. The chicken is a bit smaller than the one at SOHO too. Service was great, and i love how they have the window open for a more open space since it is pretty small. It took us an hour to get our chicken even though they said 15-20 minutes. I dont think they were ready for an order of 140 wings. My friend said the salmon ball is not worth it. it has a small portion of salmon, and is mostly cucumbers.

One star bc the service was good. But that was it. The calamari was the worst I ever had. It was doughy, tough too chew, probably frozen, and greasy. The fried chicken was doughy, huge (like turkey legs), and it makes kfc Chicken look gourmet. The place was loud and filled with youngsters watching Korean mtv with hyper sexualized girls dancing all over the tv screens. Will never go again. Ps avoid this place If you eat healthy.

Happened to be in town in Philly. I never tried any of the Korean chicken franchises, so I decided to try Bonchon. We ordered half and half w/ a combination of wings and drumsticks. The chicken stayed hot for a long time, so that was a plus. I would say the chicken was fried perfectly well as it had that crispy texture that I look for when I'm eating fried chicken. B/w the two sauces I preferred the soy ginger flavor over the spicy. My only gripe was that the food took a long time to arrive and there weren't too many customers when we were there. Overall I would say that it wasn't too memorable for me as I tried other chicken places that had better tasting sauce options. I would still come back if I was in town.

It gets packed fast and always even on a weeknight there is a line. I wish they had more seating. Service is fine but the sauce isn't as thick as it is in NY.

The soft opening was really busy and expectedly backed up but the food was GOOD, especially the drum sticks... The inside is really nice! I'm definitely looking forward to watching some games there lol... Oh, and did anyone notice the USB chargers in the outlets?? Niceee For everyone who's given negative reviews just keep in mind this is only the first week and they're only going to get better!!

Waited for 3 hours and they forgot our seating and we never got our chicken. Awful. Would recommend to show up with maybe 2 people, sit at the bar, order 3 drinks and maybe your seating will be ready by then.

awesome wings. I'm korean and have had fried chicken all my life but this one is pretty legit (esp in philly!!). a lil pricey but def worth it.

We were worried aboit seating but was seated right away. There wasn't that many busy tables but we still waited about 45 mins for the chicken. I thought the size of the chicken was too big and it wasnt as crispy as I would have liked.

Went here recently with my boyfriend for a late night bite. We loved every minute. From the ambiance to the food, nothing was short of amazing. We walked into the restaurant about 11pm and was greeted by a friendly staff. Our hostess sat us close to their somewhat outdoor seating, which was nice since the weather was beautiful that night. The vibe of the place was modern and welcoming. Our server was friendly and patient since we have a hard time deciding on what to eat most of the time lol. My boyfriend and I eventually decided to order the takoyaki and a small order of hot and spicy chicken (6 wing & 3 drumsticks). We wanted to order the okonomiyaki, but after 11pm they only have a select menu :'(. Now, before I go into detail about how amazing the food was, I do have to say that people don't seem to understand that in order to make korean fried chicken, it DOES take some time (look up the process). People complain about the wait but what's the rush? Just enjoy the atmosphere and the company ur in. If you're alone, have a drink and watch the television for a bit. Then it wont feel so long. Back to the point of this review: the food. When we did finally get our food, we got our appetizer, the takoyaki, first. Each order comes with 6 fried octopus balls topped with takoyaki sauce, japanese mayo, dried seaweed, and bonito flakes. They were served nice and hot, and with a creamy center. It was very delicious and the flavors sent me straight into an anime style japanese festival (takoyaki is normally traditional street fair food). After licking the plate clean of any evidence of food being on it, our long awaited chicken arrived. One look and my boyfriend and I knew it was going to be a great meal. The size of each piece alone were amazing. It was like looking at an overgrown chicken from the mideval times. The chicken was perfectly fried and seasoned with the sauce of our choice. The meat was extremely tender and juicy. Every bite was worth the time and effort it took the create such a dish. On the side the server also gave us a small bowl of pickled daikon radishes, which we both love and was very refreshing with our meal. All in all, our overall experience was great. Everybit of our late night eating was no where near regretful. I would definitely come again and relive every minute.

Bonchon Chicken has some of the crispiest fried chicken I've ever had...and some of the spiciest! We got a platter of 40 wings and drums, half sweet and half hot. The hot was so hot you wishes you could stop eating it, but it was too temptingly crispy to stop. And the hot made you wish the sweet was slightly spicier. It made for a nice combination, though--most of us alternated between the two so we could still feel our mouths by the end of the meal. Would definitely return for the chicken and to try their other dishes, which looked great--we were just too full!

The chicken wings are really good. We also ordered the bibimbap and that was very dissappointing, maybe because since I don't eat spicy, I didn't add the sauce, but man that bibimbap didnt have any flavor. I do keep craving the wings because man those are some of the best wings I have ever had. The atmosphere in the bar is nice and I like that they play music videos incl Western and Asian. We went for happy hour late at night which was very nice, $5 for the top shelf alcohol. Pretty good deal.

Yay! Bon Chon is Wheelchair and Mobility scooter accessible. Just a tip, if they are really busy it will be a bit tough to navigate with people hanging around the center bar. There is limited seating downstairs, so consider this also when planning your visit. Everyone is really accommodating. I brought my team from work now that they are open for lunch. We had been talking about the place and it is close enough to the office to walk. With 7 people it is cool, you can order a good cross section of the menu and try a lot of different dishes. First the chicken. We went for the strips because we had to go back to the office, ordered half and half. I did not try the spicy, but everyone was impressed. Not too messy, good flavor and the chicken was moist. We had the pot stickers, calamari, French fries- all good. The kimchi cole slaw is a must, adds a great bite and goes with everything. Bulgogi to me us usually a hit or miss, this was good. Not too salty or spicy. A good amount of onions and served with some veggies and the seasoned rice was perfect. We also had the fried rice with just veggies, good, not greasy. Hate to tell them that the biggest hit at the table was actually the pickled daikon, I could eat a whole bowl of those myself and we fought over those a bit. Overall great food. The environment was comfortable and the music was the right level to let you hear the conversation. The videos playing were good eye candy. The service was exceptional, the perfect level of attention. All in all we left satisfied from the meal and from finally having the opportunity to try this restaurant.

You guys get the drift from the other reviews. I waited too long and paid too much for what I could get from several other places. It was okay food, okay drinks, okay service. The atmosphere is good for big groups of college kids. Not sure if that's a bonus or a detractor for you. The wings are actually my least favorite part of anything we had there, there are better places to get Korean fried chicken (the little hole-in-the-wall Chx & Wings is a shocker on how good ALL the chicken is.)

This place has a great vibe to it. There is sports and music videos on the many crystal clear flat screen TVs. The music is K Pop but at night the sights and sounds are taken over by top EDM hits. The bartenders make great drinks. You must try the Soju if you've never had it before. The food is excellent, I suggest the salmon avocado ball the bulgogi sliders and of course the wings! The staff is very friendly and welcoming!

I love that Bonchon is finally here in Philly. The restaurant itself is located beside the Sleep inn hotel on Cherry St btw 10th and 11th st . Don't be deceived by the front entrance. They are using the SIDE hotel entrance vestibule to help keep cold air from directly coming in the Restaurant. Doesn't work to well but better than using the front door. The chicken wings here are incredibly tasty, addictively so. I get the spicy and soy garlic variety sooo delicious. You can actually order drumsticks/legs here too. They are massive, so don't be fooled. Other options on the menu include the Salmon Avocado ball (pan seared salmon w/ crab meat & avocado ), which is a satisfying but not too heavy meal. Service was great, long wait for tables though probably because of opening week. Definitely coming back for more next week.

My fiancé and I are big fans of BonChon and have been waiting for this place to open in Chinatown for quite some time. When I heard news that they were having a soft opening today, I hopped in the car and headed straight to Chinatown and told my fiancé to meet there! Upon arriving at the location first, I was a bit confused on the entrance itself; you have to enter through the sliding doors of the adjacent Sleep Inn. Even with this design, I could still feel a cold draft throughout the dinner as I was seated in the corner along the windows/glass doors. They may want to consider adding a temporary second door just for the winter (if permitted by Sleep Inn?) with their logo to make it more identifiable. The decor has a more modern look and k-pop music videos are blasting out of one of the television sets. Seating can become a bit cramped, as I was elbowed a few times by a group of 6 sitting behind me. At one point, another had leaned on my back for an awkward five seconds as if it was a restaurant version of the "moon-landing." I was like oh, hay now! Being their soft opening, there was a limited menu of chicken and seasoned fries; I had wanted to try the Salmon avocado ball & bulgogi sliders, but I suppose that will have to wait until next time! I had arrived at 5:30PM and decided to start off with an order of the seasoned fries prior to my fiancé arriving. I later added an order of the half & half (soy garlic & hot sauce) medium combo (9 wings & 5 drumsticks). It is now 6:00PM, and we had noticed that the adjacent table (seated 20 minutes after us) had received their order of fries when I had only one glass of water between the two of us. We flagged down a different waitress (because we had not seen our waitress since I received my one glass of water) and notified her of the situation & need for additional glass of water. Shortly after, out comes the bonchon and order of fries. We were informed that they were waiting on the chicken to come out together with the fries. This didn't seem to be an adequate explanation given fries are clearly listed as an appetizer and bonchon was the main course. Moving onto the actual food: the first thing we noticed was their unconventional implementation of actual drumsticks! I was not expecting full-sized drumsticks even though their menu had denoted such. We decided to tackle the soy garlic drumsticks first. For two people who were starving, we were not impressed. Because of its size, the flavor did not completely penetrate and was relatively mild when compared to Cafe Soho's soy garlic. Not only that, but for something that you were waiting on, the chicken should not come out luke-warm (which may have also contributed to the slightly soggy and chewy texture). The wings, being smaller, were a bit more flavorful but still lacked a crunch that I'd expect from being double-fried. Even the staple side dish of daikon radishes, which came out in a generous portion, was somewhat disappointing. Typically, it is served in a bowl with some liquid at the bottom, but in this case, it was served completely drained. The radishes were left lacking in tartness and became dry over the course of the dinner. The fries, however, held up its crunch/warmth throughout the dinner. (Quite possibly because that was actually what we were waiting for?) It is now 6:20PM, and we finally receive a second glass of water. It came out in a Yeungling pint glass, so I'm assuming they ran out of regular glasses and it took some time to find a second glass to serve water in. This is where we meet our second and official waitress as she introduces herself. Overall, our initial experience was mediocre at best and pales in comparison to their counterpart restaurants in New York. With their grand opening being tomorrow, I hope they are able to make at least a few adjustments with both kitchen and wait staff. A majority of the staff seemed inexperienced and there were moments when my fiance noticed the waiters were just standing around staring at each other like it wasn't busy at all. I'll most likely return in a few months to see how the rest of the menu is and if the bonchon has improved; sticking only to the wings. Other than that, Cafe Soho may still be the place to go for bonchon even though it is a further drive for us.

Chicken was not as crispy as Soho's, but definitely had more meat on the bone, which I preferred. More protein and less of my arteries getting clogged up. Both equally tasty, but Soho needs to stop starving their chickens before throwing them in the deep fryer. It's terrible to die, but it's a tragedy to die starving. I highly recommend the fancy coleslaw onion burger majiggy (forgot the name) and will be coming back to try some of their other entrees. Also, I don't quite understand why reviewers are throwing a fit about wait times. Bonchon has been opened for 2 full days. 1 being the soft opening and the other their grand opening. On top of that, it's in Chinatown on the week of Lunar New Years...C'MON MAN! UPDATE: The "fancy coleslaw onion burger majiggy" is the bulgogi slider. I'm slightly disappointed with the change of bun, but it's still pretty good.

Went on a Tuesday night for a late night snack. Greeted warmly and seated immediately at the bar. Upbeat Korean music blasting, Soju flowing, and plates of fried chicken flying by -- just how I like my Bonchon. We'd been to one before, and are so happy one opened up in a Philly. The bartender was immediately attentive, and did a good job at explaining the menu and getting us our drinks. We got a small order of the wings, and went half and half with the sauces. The hotter of the two disappeared from our mound of food instantly. The chicken was so well cooked, crispy and juicy, we didn't even have time to use our napkins. Food came out to us really quickly, we were really satisfied with our time spent here. My only regret is not getting a Soju carafe, guess I'll have to come back. Oh no.

These chicken wings were just incredible. If I accidentally drowned in a vat of the soy ginger glaze...I'd be ok going out like that. The wings were huge, piping hot and satisfyingly crunchy. The pot stickers are crunchy and delicious, but the hot ones are VERY spicy so be forewarned. We got there just after it opened and there was already a 45 minute wait so that is not cool and I don't think they take reservations so consider that, but don't let it deter you from going, because it is quite worth it once your in.

Been anticipating for this place to open up for a while now and it finally did! And I must say.. I'm extremely disappointed.. Came here on their soft opening day. Upon arriving, there is a door right in front so of course, our first motive is to try and open it thinking that's the door to the restaurant. But it's not. You have to go through the sliding door of the hotel and turn to your left to enter Bonchon. That's stupid. Especially if you don't have a sign up for customers to know how to enter. It's kind of funny how I sat right in front of the door so I constantly had to keep telling people that the sliding door is how you enter. Maybe I should get paid for doing that. You see the struggle, why don't you do something about it? Thanks. Couldn't even enjoy my meal without being interrupted with a chicken wing in my hand waving it around for guidance. Finally entering after such a confusing entrance, we were told it would be an hour wait. I guess I'll wait, so the food better be damn good to make up for it. We ordered the combo of wings and drumsticks of spicy and soy garlic. Waited for an hour and a half for it but wasn't even fresh when it came out! It was soggy and cold. I expected that great crunch since it is fried twice but that's not what I got! What a disappointment. I hope you improve on this because you will lose customers. It came with a side of daikon radish which wasn't done properly. It was super dry and tasted like it wasn't pickled for the right amount of time it was supposed to in order to get the right flavor. Service: my waiter was pretty nervous when he came over and introduced himself. Maybe it was his first time working at a restaurant but that was fine. However, since I am seated near the door, I was near the hostess table and I noticed all of the hostesses were on their phones constantly and ignoring customers. Step your staff game up Bonchon. Overall, wasn't a good experience than what I've expected. I expected more but got way less. Understand that it's their first day and all but come on, there were certain things that should've been done properly. So no Bonchon, I'm not addicted yet.

Bonchon is a moderate resturant that points to today's generation. They play Kpop as their background music and I do think a lot of Kpop fans would come here. The service is great, and I ordered the bibimbap which tasted alright. I'll come back soon!

i like it very much that they make it fresh here.. what i don't like is that they always make me wait an hr before eating... so be prepared to wait! if you don't drink, not sure what you're gonna do for a hr sitting there.. also, you can call and make a reservation.

It's finally here! So far for grand opening weekend its packed every night. With the limited seating, come early and get a table Sometimes the wait is long, but its worth it! Lets start with the chicken, yes it takes a while for it to come out but it is how it is cooked that makes it take a while. When it comes out it is fresh and delicious! Another awesome dish is the bulgogi sliders, sooooooo goood ! Takoyaki is also another favorite of mine. Overall this is the place to be for bonchon chicken and to kick back for other food as well.

I think this is one of the best chicken places in Philadelphia. A fan of korean style chicken, I can compare this place to authentic places back in Seoul. Food came out relatively fast (within 10 minutes) and the taste of the chicken was quite good. Service was also pretty good. One negative is that the food and drinks are a bit on the pricier end, but that is a given considering the lack of competition in the area. Also, it's nice that they changed up the music from just KPOP to more modern songs, so it isn't so repetitive.

I came here during the soft opening. I will not factor in how crowded it was or go into details about the long wait or the lack of seats in my review. All of that was somewhat expected. But It was still surprised at the overwhelming amount of people who came out. I have to give a big prop to the advertising that was done. I will review BonChon solely on their chicken, which to me tasted a lot like MSG and wasn't crispy at all. The double frying, I don't think was done. In the end, I still think Cafe Soho has the better wings. I didn't get a chance to try out other foods, but based on reviews from others I don't think I want to try them. Maybe I wait sometime for BonChon to settle down and focus on making their food good. Perhaps then I will return.

Finally got a chance to eat at bonchon today. The decor and ambiance is fun and young. The chicken isn't as good as soho...yet. The flavors are almost identical but the texture/temperature are different. Bonchon wings aren't as crispy and they aren't piping hot when they come out. I think they are frying them first and having it sit until a order comes in then doing the 2nd fry. I hope they change this technique.

Kind of disappointing, there are better options for Korean style chicken in the city. I had the soy garlic wings. They were good but there was next to no meat on them, these were some of the smallest wings I have seen. They were about the size of the wings you find at bars that have 25 cent wing specials. The sauce and texture of the wings were great but they were just way to small to justify the $12 price tag.

In a major city with a surprising dearth of fried chicken options, I am glad this place has opened. Wait was not bad for a Friday night, and the restaurant has a quirky vibe to it. The double fried drumsticks were on point with a nice snappy crunch - better than other places in the city and on par with soho. Some might think the price point is a slight notch too high, but I didn't think so. Salmon ball was good, as were the octopus dumplings (which would be better described as octopus hush puppies). All in all, it's definitely worth a try and I will return.

Overhyped, ordered 2 xl combo half and half and only 5 pieces were eaten. They did not like the chickens. It was very bland on the inside only the skin had flavor. Now I have too much chickens that I need to get rid of. BTW take out is very long when they said 30 mins it actually 45 mins. I order the 2xl they said 40 mins but it was 70 mins

I have been here twice so far and both experiences were decent. Firstly, their hostesses are not very attentive. When it's busy, they just tell everyone that there is a wait. Even when asking for the bar both times I've gone, they also say there is a wait. When clearly there are two barstools open.... I have to mention to them that there are seats open for them to seat me. They obviously give me a dirty look first then seat me. Their soy sauce chicken is okay. I like soho's better though. When ordering the combo, sometimes they have these obscenely large drumsticks on the bottom. They almost look like turkey legs that you eat at Medieval Times. The time I went with my boyfriend there was a table seated next to us. They were so loud and obnoxious that everyone in the restaurant was clearly annoyed with them. Yet the owner and the servers did nothing about it. The owner was seated at the bar near us yet he just ignored them. If a table is causing a scene, you should do something about it so you don;'t lose other customers. There's one bartender who has served me both times, he is the only awesome thing about bonchon. He's nice, and considerate. The other male bartender is whatever. He flirts with other customers and I had to get my bf to scream "YO" in order to get his attention. I'd rather take the 20 min travel up 76 to go to soho than deal with rude hostesses, and obnoxious tables.

this place is awesome if you guys are into waiting over an hour to be seated and another hour to get your food served. Also, this is the best place for anorexic chicken wings that taste as dry on the inside as if eating a box of crackers. I was expecting more from all the Philly.com hype, but that is what this place is; just hype. Only eat the wings here if you've consumed enough alcohol to knock out a horse and or your taste buds is that of a polygrip wearing senior citizens.

Salmon avocado ball is delicious. Chicken is good. Really, not a bad place except Monday Martini night doesn't start until 11pm...so really, it's martini hour and then Tuesday Martini is what you're stuck with. Which, I mean, what's the point of the alliteration if you're only doing it for an hour. And so late! ON A MONDAY!! If you want anyone to actually take advantage of it, do it earlier, cause no one is going to be doing martini's at 11pm on a Monday.

If you want to have the most terrible experience on weekend, try it. I won't even say that, "it would be okay for you.." Let me tell you what happened to me. I heard that it takes some time to get any food there so i won't compliain for that. But hey, do you really want to wait for 'fried chickens' for an hour and a half?? Please just go to Federal Donuts or Rice and Mix. The worst thing was that when I finally picked up what i ordered(large chickens, ttokbokki, potsticker) and came back to home..there was no chickens. They just gave me extra salty craps as a 90 mins long waiting. If you still want to go, well good luck!

Wow! Their chicken was really worth the wait, so flavorful and crispy. We were really skeptical about going on the first day because we knew it was their soft opening and things weren't going to be perfect but I couldn't wait to try it. They were really busy but manage to get us in faster than their estimated wait time, which we were happy about because we had a baby with us. Our waitress was very attentive and checked on us and made sure we were happy, while we waited for our food. It was a great experience and I will be back. Bonchon, you have a loyal customer.

Womp womp womp. It did not hold up for take out. The chicken strips were a breed of jerky and/or chicken pancakes. Very flat and greasy. The wings were dried out and greasy. What a nightmare!

The soy garlic were amazing. I'm usually more of a spicy guy and avoid soy garlic, but I got 10 spicy and my friend got 10 soy garlic and I am converted. The edamame was also very fresh and tasty, although it was a slightly small portion. Very good fried chicken, I will definitely be back.

Seriously, everyone's getting played by this door that's locked in the front. You have to go around through the hotel on the side to get in and it's a hassle and it's stupid. The door is right next to the seats and it is FREEZING. Can't even enjoy my meal in a comfortable environment. They took 40 minutes to come up to our table to let us know they ran out of crab meat for their salad, then came back and said they found the crab meat and it will take another 20 minutes extra. We didn't even want it anymore so we asked them to just cancel our crabmeat salad order. The manager then comes up to our table 10 minutes later and said they feel bad for the wait so they will give us the crab meat salad for free. We were like oooo okay that's nice! Another 10 minutes later the manager comes back up to our table and tells us the chef said he ran out of a specific ingredient so he said forget the order, you aren't getting the crab meat salad anymore. We were like ugh, okay. Whatever. Our 30 chicken wings finally arrived after waiting for 1.5 hours! They then tells us they ran out of radish and that they can replace it with any other side, so we chose rice as an alternative. The rice is so nasty and tasted like it was soaked in straight tap water. The waitresses were very very nice, but the business itself definitely needs a lot of management adjustments. I highly doubt I will be back.

My husband and I have been highly anticipating the opening of BonChon for a few months now. We finally got to try it on the day of the soft opening! It was absolutely delicious! I loved the soy garlic wings! The japchae is a fave too. The ambiance is definitely of today's generation...trendy yet classic with the wooden style tables. They have an awesome full bar. The staff were all very friendly. As with any soft opening for any new restaurant, of course, there were some minor hiccups. That's the purpose of a soft opening, people!..to test everything and then make improvements. There was some wait time for the food, but that was only because there were sooooo many customers, eating in and taking out! That's a great thing! Even with the wait, the staff were all so friendly to talk to, and there were so many HUGE screen TVs, including a ginormous projection screen, playing different programs to keep everyone entertained. I will definitely be going again and bring everyone I know! I recommend everyone go eat at BonChon, even if there is a wait, it is totally worth it! Addicted!

Came here with my wife on a Saturday at about 30 minutes after the place opened. First day of the Philadelphia Flower Show. Hour and a 45 min wait for a table, snagged a place at the bar in 10 mins. Shared a large half and half chicken wing platter, which comes with sweet kimchi, and we ordered a carafe of lychee yoghart soju. Devoured everything -- was delicious. Bartenders were attentive, however we weren't offered plates right away and napkins never appeared, and chopsticks would've been nice for the kimchi; on the other hand, we never asked for these things, and we didn't mind using our fingers or our savage mouth napkins.

I am hoping they get more consistency in the next few weeks. The grand opening was horrendously prolonged and once they did open it has been rocky. Ordered the wing and drumstick combo with half&half lunch special with the pickled radish. The chicken was less meaty than what you get at Cafe Soho but the sauce and crisp level are good. The radishes were poorly done. They tasted fresh but didn't have the correct flavor. It appears they did not give the radish enough time to pickle prior to serving them. The servers seemed a touch disorganized as well. When asked for utensils, they seemed to struggle to find them. That seems a touch ridiculous for a restaurant to struggle when you ask for a fork. The final straw for me with this place was they decided last minute NOT to open today for lunch. I think the fact that they keep on having last minute changes leads me to not expect consistency with them. I wish them luck with their endeavor but not sure when I will be returning for another meal. Despite Cafe Soho being much further, it is definitely worth the drive at this point in time.

I am glad Bonchon opens at Chinatown Philadelphia because I usually go to New York or Soho for Korean chicken wings. I went there last week and tried soy & spicy wings with french fries. I love their french fries the most. I would love to give a 5-star, but their white rice is too hard and cold. Other than that, I enjoyed the food and service at Bonchon.

Great chicken! A closer to home Soho. The soy garlic chicken is one of the best I have ever tried and is making me salivate as I write this. I recommend the bulgogi sliders with a glass of beer. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

it would be 4 or more stars but they forgot an item on our to go order. Chicken is amazing... truly addictive, the salmon avocado ball was excellent, a great contrast of tastes. We also had a dish whose name escapes me but it was beef with vegies over a bed of sticky rice, all the food was remarkably good. The service was slow but i think that was the kitchen, they were very pleasant, professional and nice but forgetting an item in a to go order is no small sin.

3.5 stars. I wanted to wait a little while after their grand opening to try it out because of the wait time. We were here early on a Friday evening (7pm) on a snowy day. There was a 30 minute wait. The food didn't take too long to come out -- about 30 minutes. When you walk in-- the bar is in the left and they also have seating upstairs. The restaurant doesn't look that big. Our group of 8 got seated downstairs in a semi-enclosed area which was nice. The decor is black, red, white with a modern look. Soy wings- the wings are really big. They were okay. They're not as flavorful as Soho in Cheltenham. Hot wings- I didn't have any but my friends liked them. Supposedly they're hotter than SoHo. Salmon Avocado Ball- it was good but it's more like a salmon cucumber ball. There was a lot of cucumber. I think there were like 3 tiny pieces of avocado in it. Tacoyaki- they're okay. Nothing special. Sliders- taste like a mini burger with spicy mayo which is what gives it the flavor. Seasoned fries- you'd like this if you like paramasean cheese. Fries were typical. Beer- $15 Sapporo pitcher special
