This used to be one of my go-to spots. I've tried many different sandwiches, but the grilled chicken sandwich was my all time favorite. At some point, they went from using real chicken breast to using faux chicken similar to the one used at Subway. I figured it wouldn't be too bad, but I was wrong. It was horrible. Well, looks like Bain's will be scratched from my lunch spot list. It was fun while it lasted.

My first visit in Philidelphia and visiting this place is a must! This business has been around for close to a 100 years, family-owned. I have to take a taste of Philidelphia history! I ordered a reuben with marbled bread. Delicious! Generous helpings of meat and sauerkraut with just the right amount of mustard. I don't frequent delis very much in California but this place gives me some sort of meter to go by.

4.5 stars... This is center city's greatest walk-up delicatessen stand, offering numerous delicious options made fresh daily (closed Sundays). I like the egg salad and the seafood salad, but my personal favorite here is the tuna on kaiser or the chicken salad which must contain a secret differential ingredient that makes it better than any chicken salad you'll get anywhere else in Philadelphia Proper. There are wide varieties of rolls, sandwiches, and other fresh deli offerings (many cheeses, salads, pickles, slaw, various shades of peppers, bacon, etc). A slight detraction could be the ambient temperature on some of the food items. I like an item to be hot enough to practically burn the palate, but Bains does not always deliver in that regard. No problem, as I always order a cold sandwich or platter, and just avoid the rather lukewarm soups and sides (by my standard of temperature). The Bains family and other employees here personally strive to make the lunch ordering experience unique to everyone's tastes and yet consistent. If ordering platters for groups they recommend a call ahead to be ready for pick-up and not have to wait. The savviness of the employees generates a cult repeat business although they have provided plenty of first time visitors with a wonderful meal as well.

The guys in the picture no longer own it...and you can tell. Everything is half of the amount that you use to get! And the price is higher. I am writing this out of frustration. I ordered and specified NO seeds. (I am diverticulitis) after 2 nice bites....I realized it had small sesame seeds in it. I will never go there again!

A little light on the vegan options, but I still got a custom-made veggie sandwich on wheat AND a large La Colombe coffee for $5 -- a bit less than Subway charges for a footlong and a Diet Coke. Also, it's definitely worth noting that ALL of the ingredients here are visibly fresh; none of that wilted lettuce crap you get at a number of other places. I'll definitely be back when I'm in need of cheap eats and good coffee!

After a recommendation from a fellow Yelper, a buddy and I went to Bain's for a quick, relatively cheap dinner. I was trying to figure out why I knew the name, and realized that it was from EVERY MALL FOOD COURT EVER. For some reason, I equate restaurants in mall food courts with being bad, (except for Yanagi [R.I.P] in the Oxford Valley Mall FC), so I was skeptical about Bain's. But! It was pretty good. It is a bit pricey, but we came in during opening week and everything was 20% off. Also, they have Stewart's Orange Creamsicle and Cream Soda, FTW.

This is my office's favorite place to order from at the Bellevue food court. Bain's Deli is always friendly, fast, and the sandwiches are great. We have ordered from them almost every day or other day for like 8 months now and they're never out of anything and the whole process is always easy. We have large orders so it makes a big difference. Their soups are also kickass. note to Bain's crew - Don't change anything and we'll keep coming back *EDIT - 2011 Feb - *Used to be favorite*, there service has gone down since the staff was changed out, there just isn't love in the food anymore... you can taste the difference. The only guy that stayed makes a lot of mistakes with each order then has an attitude when we come back for anything he left out of the order.

Nice addition to South Broad Street and the neighborhood in general. Tasty sandwiches. Affordable. A variety of meats and cheeses and breads. Salads look good but I have not had any yet. Plan to soon.
