This place is cool. Was never a cigar smoker but I'm always up to try something new. We came here on a Friday night around 10PM and it wasn't as packed as some other people here mentioned. Gentlemen, there's a $10 cover for you, so expect to smoke one less cigar. We came as a party of six and were seated on the black couches by the windows - ideal. The alcohol and cigar menus were expansive; the variety of whiskey expanded from mid to top tier (Glenfiddich 40 anyone?) I've heard great things about their old fashioned here so I had to give it a try. The gossip was indeed valid and twas the best old fashioned I've ever had. I know nothing about cigars and they all seemed to range around $10-18. Had a buddy pick out a mild one and it was good for about an hour. We definitely had a good time with our false sophistication that was probably very transparent. But who cares, there's a first for everything. Would definitely come back.

As a first timer, this was a great experience. Went with a group of people and when we got there, the place was packed but we found a table that was perfect for us. Our server was great and knowledgeable and really helped me navigate the cigar menu. I felt pretty exclusively being there as the venue is nice and has a very classy vibe to it. Since I'm not huge on cigars idk how often I'd return but I'd definitely recommend this place to others.

Had an incredible time here. Was easily one of the best places my buddy and I visited during our time in Philadelphia. Came here for a night cap after going to a few bars in the city and came about this place. We were seated fairly quickly upon entering and led to the lounge sofas. This place had a wide array of cigars available, great list of whiskies on hand, and a great upscale ambiance. Since they had Pappy Van Winkle on hand, both of us wanted to get a sample of the remarkable alcohol. Not disappointing at all... for all the hype of this brand. Smooth and just really damn good. I'm no cigar expert so the waitress help out to pick out a medium body cigar. An excellent choice by her and my buddy and I enjoyed the night away. Cigars and whiskies in hand. Ambiance, service, and just everything was great.

A couple buddys and I went here after visiting a local steak house. This place is great for cigars lovers. They have an extensive scotch and whiskey list and a good amount of nice cigars. We got a table and our server was very good. She was great, our drinks were never empty and she was very good at answering any of our questions. This is a great place to relax and have some good cigars and drinks. One thing is they have a cover charge for men on the weekends after 9:00pm. $10.

This is such an awesome addition to Holt's. I usually only go here to buy my boyfriend cigars for special occasions. But we've been to Ashton Cigar Bar a few times for a night cap when we're out in the city. The staff is great. The atmosphere is awesome. Obviously if you go here, you're leaving smelling like cigars but I actually don't mind it. They have a variety of whiskey, scotches, but they also have drinks/wine too. I think they have a small food menu. You can order a drink and smoke your cigar there, or you can just go purchase a cigar and leave. I'd say the dress code is definitely business casual here. It's a fancier bar.

A great cigar selection and solid advice on pairings of a world class cigar with an outstanding selection of spirits! My colleagues and i came here on a Saturday nite. The staff and our service throughout was excellent! The place has a great vibe and warmth that I found perfect. Saturday was incredibly busy and as the evening went on the place was packed! Took a star back not for quality of product or service, but the music got turned up really loud so we had to wrap up for something a little more talkable!

Very smoky! Lol. I love the smell of cigars! Great drinks! Very comfortable. Was here with friends celebrating the birth of my buddy's new baby boy. Great place to take business contacts for a relaxing evening.

I love a nice cigar and a gin martini or Cabernet. I am originally from the area but moved down to FL but visit frequently. My friends have been raving about this place to me, understanding my passion for a good cigar. I love the atmosphere - all thanks to the couches, the bar, the high top tables and all glass humidor. We had great service - the server helped me choose a cigar based on ones I smoke (Romeo y Julieta and afuente). I had the La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Robusto - a great sweet, woodsy flavored cigar, even burn and easy draw. I can't wait to visit again when I am back home!

My first cigar bar experience. You enter on the ground level and walk up staurs to a smokey, trendy bar. This place was PACKED! I was really surprised. I did not think that many people were still into cigars! This may sound kinda silly, since I have no reference, but the place was really really smokey! I thought the ventialtion system could and should have been better. No? I do not smoke cigars nor do I enjoy the smoke so I was a little out of place and my star rating is probably a bit biased. On the positive side, I did like the bar scene here. There is a traditional bar area, high tops and a couch area.

Excellent place to go with your mates. Large selection of cigars. Reasonably priced. The tobacconist will be more than happy to help recommend a good cigar of your choice. As for the drink selection, it's vast. Some very good quality scotches to go with your cigar. A must when in town

I came back a few more times and my experience has been much better. I also love the air purification system that takes most of the smoke out of the air.

Best Old Fashioned I Have Ever Tasted... Great place to hang with the boys or bring your lady. The wait for a seat was a little long but a seat at the bar opened up, so I was good to go. #Appreciateyourbartender

Ashton Cigar Bar is clearly at the top of its class. In Philadelphia, there is no other cigar bar that can touch it in terms of selection, design, and style. With hundreds of whiskies and cigars to choose from, this bar is unparalleled. Upon entry, one notices the exposed brick, nice lighting, casual vibe, and let's not forget the beautiful hostesses and cocktail servers. The environment sets the stage for a relaxed setting that does not try too hard to be something it's not. As for the product, there are three central menus for the experience here. One menu involves whiskies and Bourbon with 2 oz pours along with both a menu for Specialty cocktails and cigars. For those that are on the hungrier side of the equation, there are only small bites here. These bites include cured meats, nuts, and other small snacks. If you pack an appetite, I'd advise you to eat before you get here. My friends and I enjoyed our drinks. They were mixed fairly well and for $13+ for specialty drinks, they should be. I had a mojito and Hemingway., as well as a pour of the Highland Park 12 yr for $18. If you enjoy fine whiskey and bourbon, they have everything here. You can also get a pour of the highly sought after Pappy Van Winkle starting at $75 just for the 10 year. A pour of the 20 year will set you back about $250. As you can see, the best does come with a cost. As for the cigars, they have a huge glass wall encased humidor with a great selection. My friend and I had the Montecristo no. 2 while my other friend had the Ashton VSG which is also a fine smoke. As a venue is only as good as its service, we found our experience here to be top notch. Our cocktail server took great care of us, was attentive, and had a great sense of humor. We never wanted for anything because she was on point. Mind you, we came on a Sunday so I can't speak for a Friday or Saturday here. Overall, total five-star experience here and I will be back for repeat visits. Leave the wife or girlfriend at home, and come here to hang out with the guys.

I'd leave 0 stars if I could. Worst service ever! We have a party of 12, was promised the next available table...waited over an hour for said table, and it was given to a party of 6 who just walked in, because they knew some employee. Terrible business, terrible service, worst customer service ever!!!

  • Di P.

I was weary going to this place because after reading Bruce B.'s review I was very skeptical of how they treat their customers. I think they have really stepped up their friendliness. We weren't exactly dressed super well for the evening out as it ended up being an impromptu stop after dinner. But thankfully, the host and server did not treat us differently. I asked the server lots of questions and she helped us pick out two cigars. She was attentive without being intrusive. The sidecar complimented my cigar perfectly. I told the boy toy that if we ever get accidentally knocked up we'll have to have the baby shower there. The place is very well ventilated.

I really really miss the old Mahogany on Walnut before these slick douches kicked them out and took over. I have smoked cigars for the past 20 years and been here many times and the service has steadily gone down hill. Previous visit: didn't have the 2 cigars I wanted (this IS a cigar bar right?), sent first one back bc it wasn't a maduro, time to pay my server (who was nowhere to be seen throughout my stay on a slow MONDAY, the bartender had to go find her) never took the first cigar off the bill so tried to charge me for 2 cigars. Took forever to pay and get out of there. Last visit was just last night, packed on a Wed evening, their air filtration system just totally SUCKS, this place is way too smokey, was never like this when it was Mahogany. Sat at the bar and, as usual, took WAY too long to even get a drink and cigar menu! This place is resting on its laurels, the schleppy dude in the suit that walks around looks like a tool, and the attitude here just sucks, you get the feeling that they're doing YOU a favor by allowing you in lol. Unfortunately its the only place for a cigar in center city otherwise I'd go elsewhere. And what is the $10 cover on the weekend? Are you serious? Like I'm trying to get into an exclusive club or something lol, they need to get over themselves....

We showed up paid for our cigars and then ordered drinks that were $15. We literally just started drinking and having cigars when their bouncer comes over and says we have to leave. There's about 20 other people left. He isn't harassing them because "they know people" and are allowed to stay. He literally stood behind us telling me I had to leave. I understand closing times at bars, but it was really rude. I left half my drink and no one could finish their cigars. I would not recommend this place based on the service this time i received.

I and my husband went to Philly for an Easter weekend. Since this was my first cigar experience, I wanted to make it good. So I searched for few cigar bars in the city and this came on top of the list. We went to the place for a late night session of drinks and cigars. The place was tightly packed, pretty smoky and quite lousy. However the humidor was quite nicely stacked up and we picked up a cigar with our limited knowledge of the brands in the area. After smoking a full cigar and few beers down we exited the place. Overall a god place to try cigars if u haven't tried it before!

We were two young single gals, all tarted up for a Saturday night on the town, cruisin' for dudes. After scoping out the scene at a few other bars we were feeling like Goldilocks- one too empty, one too crowded, one too small... Finally we scored the perfect scene when we walked into Ashton Cigar Bar. A classy, spacious room chock full of handsome fellows. The chick-to-dude ratio is highly favourable here, from a single gal's perspective. I'm not a cigar smoker but the smoke didn't really bother me. This is a good place to come if you're hoping to get picked up by an older, wealthy gentleman. The bartenders left a little to be desired. After we finished the bottle of wine we ordered to share we decided to get a cocktail before we moved on. I asked the bartender to make me something with gin and told him I like citrusy drinks like a gin sour. He made me some frothy pink concoction that was frankly a little embarrassing to drink, and overly sweet. Nothing like what I had asked for. It's a good thing he was cute.

My recent experiences here have been lackluster and they've been lacking hospitality. Here's one example, in particular. 4 of us, businessmen, decide to hit the Ashton for a smoke and some drinks. Our hipster bartender, who was more worried about his outward image than our drinks, was rude and inattentive to our group of 4 businessmen. Maybe it was the suits? I would suggest, if you plan to visit this very brightly adorned cigar shop bar, you put on some tight jeans and grow your beard out, just like every other wannabe NYC bar in Philly. Bring some mustache wax and you may just score a free drink. So, the bartender never heard of the single malt scotch I drink. No problem, but he gave me a look as if I just asked him to make me a Screaming Viking and instead offered me a half pour of a $120 shot of scotch to taste. No, I didn't get angry. If I were the owner, sure, I'd be angry. I drank his suggestion, told him it was delicious and ordered a bourbon. That's right, a bourbon. The smug look he carried disappeared from his overly bearded face instantly and I never heard from him again. The next bartender was even less friendly, so I guess they were trying to let us know that we weren't welcome. We were going to ask the manager for an intervention, but after a bit of observation we knew he was too timid to approach anyone. What's going on here, gents? We've been coming here for a while for your quality cigar selection. Maybe it's time to reevaluate things.

Me and my girlfriend went to this supposedly classy bar last night. I kept adding water to the drink, because it was too strong and I needed to drive later and I have a kidney condition that makes it essential for me to stay hydrated. There were two very nice bartenders - Carlos and clean shaved slim guy, and there was just the opposite one, with the ponytail and tattoos, who was only decent with regulars. I believe they called him E.B. For some reason, that bartender got more abrupt and rude with us with each passing minute, especially after we spoke to him with the Russian accent he pretended not to understand quite a few times. When I asked for more water he refused, saying he saw me dilute my drink, tossed our bill and credit card onto the counter without us asking for it and without list of drinks we had. Also, he included the price of drink that was sent to me by a nice lady. As we went to move to the table, he sent huge bouncer to to kick us out. In front of everyone!!! The guy didn't even let us use the bathroom and I begged him for that and a glass of water. At first, when we asked for explanation, he said we had too much to drink, then he changed it to that we were disturbing other customers. I mentioned that we could clear the confusion by watching the tape, then he finally said that they have a right to refuse service to anyone and threw us out under the heavy rain without even giving us back our umbrella. I'm so humiliated and mortified. Nothing like that ever happened to me in my 40 years and I've lived under the oppression of Soviet regime! People were looking at us being escorted out like common criminals! We are two classy ladies with an extensive education. I come from a long line of doctors and professors! I still can't believe it happened . How could I ever get over this?? I would appreciate any advise as to how not let this ever happen to poor defenceless former immigrants!!

This is a great environment to enjoy a smoke and the game. The place is very nice and it has a great ventilation system. The only reason I couldn't give this place 5 stars is because the waitresses was not the best. She didn't really have any info or recommendations for my female companion. Plus we had to try a little to hard to get her attention once she had a group of guys at another table. But even with this I would still come back.

I went here after hearing good things about this place after visiting other cigar places when i visit Philly. But, up front, bottom line, this is a place with an identity crisis that tries too hard to be both a nightclub and cigar bar, yet fails at either. To be fair, the drink selection was wonderful, the ambiance was top notch, the service (once we got a seat) was good. However, the bad cancelled out the good by a serious margin. First, a 10 dollar cover charge for males. Come on now. I thought i saw the end of that trolling nightclubs as a college junior that catered to college kids. It cheapens the image of a place thats trying to be a classy cigar bar. Most people who frequent such places spend more on that on a single drink. A 10 dollar drink minimum would make more sense. Second. The music was way too loud. This would make sense if it actually had a dancefloor. It doesn't. But having a conversation there is rather difficult due to the music cranked up really loud. Music at a cigar lounge is fine, but if you have seating in a communal arrangement, you would assume conversation is encouraged. Clearly its not. Speaking of seating... Third. Waiting for a seat was rather unexpected. You sign in to wait for a seat. We waited for 30 minutes to get a seat, and you have to flag down a waitress for service while waiting, adding extra insult to injury. And speaking of seats, the seating arrangement is awkward and rather space wasting (ie: some seats along throughways where people step on your feet whilst smoking). As a cigar aficionado, I really wanted to rank this place higher than two stars. But the Ashton Cigar Bar is an otherwise promising establishment with serious potential that ends up being pretentious and confused about what its trying to be.

Great cigar bar/restaurant (apps I believe). I really enjoy going there. Waitstaff are very attentive. I usually hit it during a busy time, and reservations are not accepted, but there is a wait list. So, I usually go in and stand at a side counter or the bar while the list whittles down to my party. A fine selection of cigars and alcoholic beverages. As for the food, I haven't tried any yet. The entrance on the street is a small door, so you may miss it even walking.

The Ashton Cigar Bar is a pristine, modern interpretation of pleasurable diversion from a bygone era. The right to sip on an exceptional cocktail complimented with the aroma and magic of a La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor cigar is engrained in the heritage of our nation....and it is comforting to know that the place where this right still exists does it right and then some! I have been here with acquaintances, clients and solo; the service is always impeccable! Upon scaling the entryway stairs, you are greeted by an attentive and sparkling hostess who will kindly relieve you of any unnecessary accoutrements. On a busier evening, you may wait a bit for a table, but fear not, the crowd is usually cool and sophisticated with a lack of pretension evidenced by their friendliness. The same goes for the service: calm, collected, senior in their approach. Try an El Diablo Suave if you are longing for a moment of summer, or perhaps a Whiskey Revelation should you be a winter embracer. I am predominantly a seeker of Scotch, and now an official Hazelburn convert, which among dozens of other brands, I had never savored prior to this place. The selection is seductive and requires subsequent visits! When pressed for a complaint on the Ashton Cigar Bar I do have one: only that the world outside seems a little less credible and a little more cruel when I am back down on the sidewalk, lingering as the sleek glass door closes behind my back, beckoning me to go home.

Great place. GREAT liquor selection. No cover unless you show up late night on Friday or Saturday. Good idea really - keeps out the people that don't fit this usually chill but fun crowd of male and female professionals. Great bar staff!

My first time at Ashton's was great. Went on an extremely busy Monday night before the holidays. Their space is absolutely beautiful. Their whiskey selection is out of this world. They had a large selection of cigars in their humidifier and the waitress was very knowledgeable in all things cigar. She made the process painless for one newb and a novice. Luckily all the staff was respectful and nice unlike some of the other reviews. Had a great time relaxing with a drink one hand and a cigar in another.

My first time here since the demise of Mahogany. Nice place in a hip, nightclub sort of way. Seems to be more emphasis on high end liquor than cigars. I must not be their demographic, because the place was packed. I'm a dark woods, leather chairs, quiet jazz in the background kind of guy. The music was all over the place, from hi-hop to 80's pop. On the good side, service was excellent

This was my first time at a cigar bar and I will say it definitely I nice place. The entrance is tucked away to the side of Holt's so be careful not to miss it. The decor is really nice inside, the wait staff are attentive and upscale. They have an extensive bourbon/whiskey/scotch menu which is awesome because I love all 3.. even including those hard to find bottles of Pappy Van Winkle, which WILL cost you.. my buddy got a glass of the PVW 20 year and it costed him a solid 50 dollars. They have a few tv's so you can catch the game or a movie while you are enjoying a good cigar. From what I understand you can also bring your own if you prefer a certain cigar that they don't readily have. Check out their website, they list the cigars and spirits that they have available for when you visit. When we got there we were promptly seated and it was pretty crowded but you could hear the person that you were talking to without having to raise your voice. Each table has its own ashtray, matches, and cigar cutter so you don't have to worry... and someone came around once or twice to dump out our ash tray in order to keep the ash from building up. I am already planning on coming back again... however next time I will bring my own cigars... I know for a fact that I can get them a few dollars cheaper than what they are selling them for. From what I saw.. the hard liquor costs anywhere from 12 dollars to upwards of 50+ dollars a glass and the cigars were around $8 to $30+ a stick. I can't comment about beer or mixed beverages.

A few of my buddies stopped in here about 2 weeks ago before heading to Morton's and had nothing but great things to say and how much of a difference it is compared to the previous bar. They said the list of drinks and liquor was enormous and that the humidor had basically anything you could think of. So I decided to stop in tonight and they were dead on. This place is top notch all the way, the design and look is clean and classy, the selection was huge and the servers were friendly. We were seated immediately and our waitress came over and took our order within a few minutes. We tried a few of the signature cocktails: El Diablo Suave, Whiskey Revelation and Paradise Found. All 3 were awesome. The atmosphere is laid back and everyone seems to be having a good time. I will definitely be back whenever I am downtown and have time to stop in. I'll be passing on the word to friends to check it out.

Limited but solid cigar selection. Outstanding bar and service. Not really into cocktails but if you know your liquor, rum, tequila, bourbon, et al you'll be happy here. Thankful it's here and is where I hang my hat when visiting Philly. Didn't give it 5 stars as there is always room for improvement.....

First Impressions As I'm walking through the door I see these beautiful lights and a clean crisp look.(it was like a stairway to heaven) When I reached the top of the stairs I was instantly memorized by the selection of liquor and size of the walk in humidor. I arrived early so I was instantly seated. I decided to go with the Mi Amor Mojito and a Mi Amor reserva. I've had this cigar before but it was so much better with this drink. I've been to other cigar bars in the city but none like this one. I was surprised to see them selling premium cigars for a decent price. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Now I have to figure out how to sneak out of the office more often.

This was my first "cigar bar" experience and definitely one worth having again. The decor is very subdued, swanky and feels upscale - exactly the kind of place you want to be enjoying a cigar like a baller. My friend and I sat in leather chairs along the side wall, which was the perfect set up for conversation, not so close that we were uncomfortable and not so far that we weren't able to hear one another. The only drawback was that the waitress, while very nice and attentive, didn't seem to have a lot of knowledge of cigars. However, she made up for it by referring us to the aficionado in the humidor. I can really appreciate someone who knows what they don't know and are willing to admit it rather than faking it. The whiskey list is extensive and I enjoyed every sip. I will certainly be back for another.

Beautiful atmosphere. Modern yet comfortable with options to sit at the bar, a hightop, or one of many cushy chairs. Professional wait staff. A cigar bar is almost all about atmosphere to me, and they have it. Drinks and cigars were fine as expected.

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. When I walked in I was intimidated because I was completely underdressed, but I was greeted with a smile and super friendly bartenders. I ordered a shot of whisky and began smoking a cigar. Midway into a spirited conversation with my friends( one shot in) I opened my left hand onto an oncoming waitress. She grabbed my wrist, twisted her face up and began to tell te other staff how she almost got a SCAR on her face. As I sat behind her she kept digging into the situation making me feel very uncomfortable as a customer. In all honesty I was done... UNTIL...... I had to PEE. The bathroom changed my perspective. The attendants were awesomely amazing. They treated me like a princess and sprayed after I peed and gave me hand towels and called me beautiful. Ugh, I'll be back. Even if to only sit in the bathroom and drink expensive shots with the attendants.

Probably the worst customer service I have ever had. From manager to staff no one had a clue how to properly run a shift. Sat friends of the owner, who clearly allows this and knows nothing about how to run a good business, before our table of 13 which had been waiting over 50 minutes. let it also be known the table of friends was a table of 6, less than half of ours drinking mostly water. I dont advise you choose this place at all... id rather smoke a good cigar at a place that deserves my money. 1 star is mandatory so you're welcome ashton!

So I came into town for the weekend and this place Ashton did not grant me entry due to having a v neck Ralph Lauren white tee on. This place is pretty lame if your into cigars. The owner or manager skinny white guy has no knowledge of cigars. I know this because I came to Philly a few weeks ago on a Tuesday night and went into the place and he helped me. Cigar selections are very limited and he was drunk as a skunk. He didn't even know what a java from rocky Patel was nor did he have a clue on the brand tabak. Needles to say this place is lame. By the way they have an Uncle Tom at the door doing security. He is also a lame

A must-go for audacious cigar smokers and anyone else comfortable with such aromas looking for a lounge with modern, hip decor and a sexy atmosphere thanks to the attractive and friendly waitresses. It's especially relaxed and low-key near opening time. The lighting, walk-in humidor, ventilation, and high-end decor is great. A view of the tall display of bottles behind the bar is stunning, and the liquor selection (especially the whiskies) is dazzling. Always a diverse crowd, with an eclectic array of music and spirited conversation filling the air. One big tip--it can get crowded on the weekend, so come by mid-evening or be prepared to wait for a table/spot at the bar.

HANDS DOWN! The best cigar experience ever!!! Way better than the cigar lounge in SROW SJ, Cali. Smoking my Oliva V Serie and listening to Christmas music and watching football. This is the moment right here. The employees are helpful too! They answered my questions and everything. They have every brand I can't find back home. You cannot too this experience smoking a cigar trust me. I'm blessed!!

  • Napoleon S.

I was thoroughly impressed. The bar tender was cool and showed us what was up with the cigars to help us make a decision. I don't really know much about them, so it was cool to have someone knowledgable school you on the game without making you seem like a complete rookie. Their cocktail list seemed really fresh as well. I went with an Old Fashioned and it was made to perfection. The prices are also really fair. Two cigars and three drinks came to about $50 which isn't bad. I would say that this bar definitely caters to the middle aged to older crowd really well while not alienating the 20/30 somethings. Very classy spot with bar tenders that are very kind and very easy on the eyes.

As a frequent business traveler, finding a place to smoke cigars indoors is a luxury. I was completely floored to find Ashton in beautiful downtown Philadelphia. As I walked up the long slim staircase to the hostess podium, I could smell the inviting aroma of fine cigars. I was with a business colleague who doesn't smoke at all. Ashton has great ventilation so you're not sitting in a fog of smoke. The cigar selection is decent - mostly Ashton's - well that's obvious - and a few other brands. The humidor is locked and they first get you to order the cigar from a menu. They will let you in the humidor accompanied. They have a nice drink selection - not much on the wine side - but great scotch's, bourbons, whiskey, cognacs, rums, etc... I've traveled to Europe and dealt with unisex bathrooms, but this is the only thing I didn't care for at Ashton. I felt more bad for the female staff that had to use the same sinks (there are individual private toilet stalls within the unisex restroom) but I still felt awkward as the clientele were mostly dudes while the ladies powdered their noses as men do their business. I went there three nights in a row and wish there was an Aston in every city!

I went on a very packed winter night. Friendly staff and good selection but the cramped space, loud crowd, and overpriced drinks are probably the worst combination to sit down and enjoy a cigar. I will try this place again on a less crowded night.

I don't know what most cigar bars are like, but this is really nice spot. I have heard about what the place looked like previously, but it's an amazing place. The waitress's are nice and helpful. Very nice cigar selection as well as great drink selections. The most amazing part of the experience was the fact that the room air was so clean. I mean it's really shocking to experience. It's a fly place. Will be back soon.

Ashton's is a cigar bar done right. The facility is clean, chic, and the owners are fantastic. The cigar menu is extensive and the cocktails are delicious--I'm a huge fan of El Diablo Suave. As a woman I often feel ostracized by the boys club atmospheres of most cigar bars, however Ashton's breaks those boundaries and is incredibly welcoming.

I read that this place isn't crowded but I must say when Hubby and I went to this place on Friday night it was really packed. We had to wait about 15 minutes to get seated and were seated across from each other so needless to say we had to yell across from each other just to hold a conversation. While we waited to get seated we went into the humidor to pick our favorite sticks. I didn't think they had much of a selection, only 1 wall of cigars about 15' long and 2 5' walls perpendicular to the main wall? Seems like all the cigars I wanted they didn't have, so the server was trying to steer me to the Ashton's after all the name of the place is Ashton's cigar bar but I'm not a fan of Astons much. I wanted something mild so we went with the perdomo 10th anniversary champagne. For a cigar bar one would think the would have a larger selection so that's why the lose 1 star. I was told there is a cigar shop downstairs and they don't charge a cutter fee when you bring your own cigar. Now my biggest complaint is the drink prices. I ordered a double shot of cognac since I had a church hill why not accompany it with a good cognac. When I got the bill for it was $44 for a double shot of cognac. I had to ask if this was some kind of joke and the bar tender said "you ordered a double shot yes it's $44. $44 I'm sure I could have gotten several other low quality drinks for the time we were there. For that I had to take away another star. Overall nice place, nice atmosphere, nice people, servers were always visible ready to take orders, not a big enough selection of cigars, and very pricey top shelf drinks. Would I go back yeah I'll come back with my own stick and maybe order a cheaper whiskey or uhhhhhhh bring my own cognac. I'm sure I can go to my local cigar shop and enjoy my own cigar and cognac for half the price but that's what you get when your in center city.

Came here as part of the bachelor party activities and had a great time! The ventilation was excellent, really allowing you to relax and enjoy the individual cigars. Huge selection of whiskeys. Beautiful space that is welcoming to both genders. Very friendly staff. I love that it's on the second floor because it really feels exclusive without the snobby attitude of other places. Everyone was dressed nicely and the bouncer was a true professional. Highly recommend!

Went to the cigar lounge next door Holts, awesome place. However, Ashton's the cigar bar next door, not awesome. $10 cover and a club atmosphere. If you're looking for a cigar bar, and like your stogie along with a relaxing atmosphere this is not the place.

I love this place. Great atmosphere and service. Dare I say---I feel this place is still under the radar. Whenever I visit, it's never crowded. Perhaps I shouldn't be complaining. It has a superb selection of cigars (obviously) and a great drink menu. It's very chill and a great place to sit and watch the world go by on Walnut St. Very appropriate for a business meeting.

When I tell you that I've been waiting for this place to open for months, I'm not kidding. I was a big fan of the former Mahogany cigar bar. When they closed it was a sad day. When I heard that Holts was taking over and remodeling, I was jazzed. So, today I got to sample it for the first time. And I plan on being a tough grader. In order to be as good as Mahogany was, they have to meet a lot of criteria. So first, the look of the new place... Top notch. I always liked the old look of Mahogany. Loved it in fact. I'm much more of a fan of the old look personally. But I can't argue with how they redid the place. It was built with the right amount of class and efficiency in mind. Impressive whiskey wall, great walk in humidor which the old place lacked, and far more open with less cramping. Kudos. Service level, well everyone was friendly to me. I was asked to remove my hat at the door (classier joint now... I'll let it go even though I saw more than one person in T-shirt and jeans). The bartender seemed like a happy fellow. Now here's a slip. I ordered the Papa Doble. It's a $10 drink on the menu. The bartender had to look it up before making it which I'll excuse. Heck I'd rather have him do that than wing it and get it wrong. I threw $12 on the bar with the intent of tipping $2. He took $11 for the drink and charged me $11 on the tab. Strike one. (Since I didn't have another $1 bill on me, he shortchanged himself). Decided to move from the bar to a leather chair. Comfort level in the seating was going to be key. Although I really miss the seats that Mahogany had, these will do. Wide enough single chairs for my big ass, the couches looked inviting, plenty of table space, ashtrays and cutters laid out on them. Good touches. Cigar selection and price was going to be a key. The old Mahogany was limited and tended to up charge. I brought my own in all the time so I never cared. You can still buy downstairs at Holts and bring them up. According to the gentleman I asked, you can still bring your own. All pluses. The up charge of buying in Ashton Cigar Bar is a 10% markup over Holts. That's not too bad for the convenience especially if Holts is closed. I bought my Padron Londres downstairs and brought it up with no issue. No complaints whatsoever on the drink selection. They did that part right. The drink I ordered hit the spot too. They carry some small snacks on the menu too. Would be nice to get a free snack option at the bar, some peanuts or something. You have to pay for everything you munch on. I wanted to use the wifi. They had it and gave me a password. But it never worked. One more bug to fix. Oh by the way... Music selection in the bar was going to be key. I heard lots of classic tunes including Ray Charles and Wilson Pickett. I approve. And nice touch with the bigger flat screen tv's for sports which Mahogany lacked. And one last twist... The bathroom is unisex. It has 4 big stalls with full doors on them so they're private, then you share the sinks. They are nicer and bigger than before. It might confuse you at first though. I consider this a 4 star place. It lacks the character that Mahogany had. But it makes up for it in many areas. They lost a star on the charging error but perhaps they will fix such things with time and experience. Now, the final word... I used to drive in from Delaware County just to visit Mahogany. The hassle of finding Rittenhouse Square parking was always worth it to me. The question is, would I do the same for Ashton Cigar Bar? The answer? Yes.

I really hated to give Ashton cigar bar 2 stars, but I have to be true to myself. I have been smoking cigars at Holt's cigar store faithfully for about 10 years now, and it was hard to give them a not too positive review. Everyone that smokes cigars in Holt's Smoking lounge has been anticipating the opening of Ashtons. I was enjoying a good cigar downstairs in the smoking lounge, and Phyllis said it was time to close. I took my half smoked cigar and walk up the steps to Ashton. Upon entering my first impression was what a beautiful place! I stood at the top of the stairs for a bit but no one came over to greet me. I walked over and sat at the bar and order a beer. While looking around the bar, I noticed two guys from the smoking lounge downstairs. They had an empty seat so I went over and sat with them. The server came over and asked me if I would like something to drink, I asked her if she had a rum menu for which she produce one. I love single malt rub and they had a nice selection of it here. I choose Zaya's rum from Trinidad that sold for 12 or 14 dollars a drink. It was delicious. The two guys I was sitting with were impressed, but sometimes you have to treat yourself. Then came the problems. A little snippy guy came over to my table and asked me if I could move my coat because it draped to the floor. I asked him if he could hang it up for me and he said no, you have to keep it with you. After the guys I were drinking with left the table, the same guy comes back over to the table and says that I have to move because he needs the table. I looked around and I did not see anyone standing or waiting. I stood up and said" I'll just leave". He wasn't very convincing when he said "you do not have to leave". He just walked off and left a Mexican busboys standing there waiting for me to leave to clean off the table. It baffles me to try and understand how you could have some one of his personality representing your business. I just hope I won't get banned by Holt's!

I come into Center City on a frequent basis to meet clients and this is my 10th visit. I have made it a point to stop in to indulge in my 2 favorite things, drinks and cigars. The selection is top notch and they are always adding new things to the menus. The have a collection of speciality drinks that are unique and fun. The staff is knowledgable and take care of the little things that make the experience pleasurable. Recommend to anyone that likes fine liquor, top notch cigars or both.

Amazing place to try almost any scotch, bourbon, vodka or rum you could imagine. Very pricey but worth the visit. If you don't like cigars you obviously shouldn't visit. But if you like (or don't mind) cigars, it's definitely a great place in a great location. Be sure to dress nice or you run the risk of not getting in. I would also recommend visiting Holts on the first floor if you want to shop for a good, well priced cigar before going upstairs.

It's hard to deny that this is the best place in Philadelphia to smoke a cigar. I will say though, that among the many upgrades and modern twists that have been added to this space, I miss the dark, smoky atmosphere and old school feel of Mahogany.

What an awesome cigar bar. I'm the kind of guy who likes cigars, but doesn't know a ton about them / visit a lot of cigar bars. That being said, wrapped up dinner nearby with coworkers and walked by this place - heard good things so we decided to check it out. Short version: great service, awesome venue, solid cigar selection, cool music. Long version: Was immediately greeted by a nice hostess who said it would be around 15 minutes for a table - in the meantime we went to the bar for a beer and to browse the cigar menu. Quickly found some open chairs and a table nearby, and the waitress very kindly told us she needed to verify with the hostess if we could take them. Before leaving for the hostess, she kindly offered to at least take our drink orders while we waited. Got the okay to take the seats, enjoyed some solid draft beer options, and proceeded to select some great Ashton cigars from their swanky glass door walk-in humidor. Waitress was very helpful and gave us great service the whole time, promptly grabbing us additional rounds without being pushy. While the service was great, the venue itself is even better. Super modern and brand new, really really nice on the inside. Kind of a modern Mad Men type atmosphere. Yes, there's a ton of cigar smoke - so if you don't like that, well then probably not the place for you... Otherwise, wouldn't hesitate for a second to go back. Great music playing at a medium level in the background (mixture of 70s/80s and newer stuff). Only knock is that it's a little small - so I could imagine this place getting packed on the weekends. Pretty upset that I didn't review their whiskey menu in more detail (they have Pappy van Winkle?!), but I'll be back soon for some bourbon and another great cigar.

Ashton cigar bar is a great place to have a cigar, considering how cold it's been this winter, a place to have a cigar indoors is a necessity for any cigar smoker. That brings me to why I went to Ashton Cigar Bar. I was looking to enjoy a fine cigar with some friends. So I went online to their site, and looked around at the cocktail menu and the whiskey menu. I saw that Ashton Cigar Bar has an awesome selection of cocktails and whiskies, so it seemed like it would be right up my alley. Generally I tend to be a bourbon sort of guy, and Ashton Cigar Bar's bourbon selection is top notch. They're one of the very few bars in the city that has Pappy Van Winkle. So of course I had to go there and get one. On top of the bourbons they also have a great cocktail selection. At this point I've tried from the cocktails, the Hemingway (which is my favorite by far), the San Cristobal Sling, the Caribean crossover, the Aviation. The signature cocktails are unique, and stand out for being made with fine quality ingredients, although the one that stands out to me the most is The Hemingway. I've been to Ashton Cigar Bar now maybe 6 or 7 times, and every time I've gone has been a great time. Although, if you decide to go on a weekend, it tends to get crowded Friday and Saturday night, so come earlier if you want a table.

Hesitant to write a review of this place, I like that its never too too crowded. Bartenders Mike and Carlos are top notch, super attentive, and make the best cocktails in the city. Period. Mike makes a Manhattan to be envied, and you almost never will be found with your glass empty. The wait staff is as friendly and attentive as they are attractive, you will have to visit to see what I mean by this. Cigars are reasonably priced, huge selection in the walk in humidor. You can bring your own without a cutting fee if you choose, it kind of takes away from the experience. Bonus for those who don't smoke cigars, the place has a amazing air filtration system so its not overly smokey regardless of how many sticks are burning. Well worth the visit if you haven't been, one of my top three spots in the city. Lock.

This place is great for a bachelor party. I came up here with a group of guys and it is perfect. The waitresses are great and very accommodating. They accepted my group of 9 without a hitch. The whiskey selection as well as cigar selection is unbelievable. Behind the bar is a giant wall of whiskey. There has to be over 200 different bottles up there. A cool thing in the menu is that they pair certain cigars with their specialty cocktails. I had a Mad Hatter and it paired nicely with my LA Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva. I'll definitely be back! Great place!!

I really loved this place. Very sexy, and there are very few spots in Philly that I would call sexy. It had a lounge feel. Great music playing, but not too loud that you couldn't have a conversation. Perfect for a cool date or hanging out with friends. Only negative is my clothes/hair reeked of cigars afterwards, but I guess that's expected.

This place is awesome. Very impressive when you walk in. Nice pub tables, huge granite/marble bar, big glass enclosed walk in humidor, couches and lounge areas everywhere. Very upscale. I am by no means an expert, but I like to think I know a little bit about cigars. To that end, the guy in the humidor was very helpful and offered a ton of advice; not at all intimidating for a novice cigar smoker. Plenty of cigars and liquors (specifically whiskeys) available. I am a big fan of the cigar bar and would love to go again. The only negative is the cigar smell. They advertise that there is a high-powered air purification system there, but my clothes smelled for days. Still, you have to partially expect that anytime you smoke a cigar.

We sat at the bar to watch the Eagles game on Monday night -- wasn't planning on staying the whole time and definitely wasn't planning on having more than one drink -- But Alex's (the bartender) Old Fashioned was probably one of the best I have ever had! He recommended a couple of cigars for my friend and I to try and they were great (even for a newbie like me!) Great drinks, great cigars & great company (and an Eagles win!) Can't really ask for a better Monday night! We will definitely be back soon!

HORRIBLE service. We were there for two hours on a Saturday night from 10:30p-12:30a. It took us 55 minutes to receive the first (and only) round of drinks. Ten minutes later we were seated. Shortly thereafter, another waitress came over to take our order. However she had far too much to drink and was too hammered to get our order. She took our order verbally. Thirty minutes later, and no drinks, we left. I told the hostess on the way out that we had been there for almost two hours and only had one drink. She really didn't care. We will never go back. It has become too popular for them to care about their customers. Two bad waitresses, a $10 cover charge, and mediocre cigars. No thanks.

So, I'm usually not big on the decor. But even before you walk into Ashton, you're like wow! This place looks nice. Then you walk up the stairs and you are like wow! Again. It's a really really beautiful place. I was stunned for awhile, but I soon recovered to order a tasty bulliet 10 manhattan. That was the perfect drink. I believe even the cherries are marinated in house. Service was impeccable and quick. Orders fulfilled quickly; new waters brought out within a half minute of the old one emptying. The place wasn't smokey even though it's a cigar bar! Once you go home you kinda stink, but I like the smell of cigars.

What an amazing place. Cigars, Great cocktails and one of the best whiskey selection I've ever seen in Philly. I'm very impressed with the service and staff. Ashton cigar bar is an upscale place to take friends and clients. If you want to win over a client by showing them a good time this should be your top 5 place to entertain. I can't think of anything negative to point out. If you like whiskey or cigars then you're found the right place!

Excellent spot...came here for the first time a few weeks back w/ a friend of mine who's a regular. Service was great, waitress's were pleasent and the drinks and cigars were all good. A little pricey but you need to expect that, it's a more high class hangout not a standard bar. The air filtering system is phenomenal. It's amazing that you can sit in a modern bar w/ 30-40 cigar smokers and actually enjoy the taste and aroma of just your cigar...this was a great surprise. If your looking for girls, this ain't the spot, but if your looking to chill w/ a cigar and couple of drinks then this is absolutely the spot...I highly recommend.

Place is disgusting. I was denied entry because I was wearing flip flops with jeans and button down shirt. We went to Vango around the corner with roof top bar and smoked cigars there. Cigar shop a few stores down from Vango has great selection and was able to enjoy outside.

I was a fairly regular customer of Mahogany cigar bar, which used to be located where Ashton Cigar Bar is now, and I hosted several large events at that once fantastic establishment, and was, as an individual, a regular. I was also a regular customer of Holt's cigar shop which, as I understand it, owns the new place. Apparently, under its new management, this establishment is too good for it's formerly regular customers. Yes, despite wearing a decent pair of slacks and a respectable button down shirt, they have judged that my (brand new, good enough for everyplace else in the neighborhood) shoes aren't up to their standard. So, they determined that they would shut me out of my own meeting. WARNING: this could happen to you. Do not plan to do business with this rude establishment. It might be a decent place inside ( they robbed me of the opportunity to find out), but if their gatekeeper isn't sufficiently impressed with your, or your guests', entirely reasonable attire, they might take it upon themselves to complicate your business meetings or otherwise ruin your night. It's sad that I will no longer feel welcomed at Holts or the once-awesome bar upstairs. But, at least I will be supporting an establishment that values my business. There are plenty of excellent bars in the neighborhood, and if you are looking to buy a cigar, try Harry's in Old City, where the selection is respectable and the service is consistently awesome!

The concept is sophisticated and design well executed, but our experience was immediately tainted by the smug and condescending host with an inexplicable negative attitude towards us. We were a rather large party, in town on a business trip and when we asked about seating they told us we could stand against the railing if we wanted, and order drinks from there. He clearly was not impressed with us and made no effort to hide his assumed superiority of us while not giving any idea of when and if a table might open up. We found our own table and ordered a dozen drinks and as many cigars. When we asked the host to have the table cleared of the old glasses, his response was "I just want to get this story straight...." What story??!! Lovely venue but the front man really turned us off. Won't be coming back. My suggestion is take your business somewhere it will be appreciated.

More of a lounge than a bar. Great seats, great cigar collection, great whiskey/scotch collection. I always spend $50-$100 when I go out here on cigars and drinks. Definitely worth your money though.

Fantastic! Smooth contemporary environment with an eclectic crowd. You can have a classy experience, see some notables possibly or just some local cigar heads who are always around. If you are a cigar veteran or not you will feel welcome and not out of place. There are good smoke eaters to keep the air as clear as possible. the cigar menu is large, with the walk in humidor you may see some not yet released for retail cigars available. Love this place.

So I will start by saying I was a frequent customer of the previous establishment that occupied this space and as much as I enjoyed the old establishment the new one is by far a superior cigar bar, on par with any of the well known NY cigar clubs and bars. The atmosphere is modernly sophisticated while still providing an intimate atmosphere. The service is great and attentive even when the bar is very busy. The bar staff is extremely knowledgeable on their extensive spirits list as well as offering up some very creative takes on classic cocktails as well as some unique cocktails. If Bourbon, rye, scotch or rum are what your libation of choice, they provide an extremely extensive selection as well as a rotating list of hard to find liquors such as all the variates of Pappy Van Winkle, the Buffalo trace antique collection and Elijah Craig 21 just to list a few. If rum is your libation of choice to pair with your Ashton or Fuente, they pick up where the Rum bar left off when the shuttered their doors a year or so ago. Their is a dress code which is posted as businesses casual, but from what I normally see people wear as long as your not in sweat cloths or ball caps your welcome in, but that's just an observation. The crowd is quite varied as early in the evening its the suites and ties but as the night goes on the crowd grows younger. The bar serves more of a role as a cocktail bar that encourages cigar smoking, with their generous 200 plus cigar humidor, then just a cigar bar. Overall The Ashton Cigar Bar is a welcome addition to the Philadelphia scene and has picked up where Mahogany left off and surpassed it in service and selection. A must try in Philadelphia!

I wrote my first review of this place a few days after I moved to Philly, over a year ago. I loved it then and I love it even more now. It's still the only non-dive in the city proper I can smoke a cigar in. The bar continues to my a top-shelf destination any and every night of the week--see my absurd number of check-ins. The list of spirits is even more wonderfully ridiculous than it was when I first commented on it. They even have two bourbons--by Jefferson and Knob Creek--that are distilled specially for The Ashton Cigar Bar now. How cool is that? The Jefferson is smooth and mellow with sweet heat on the back end and the Knob Creek is a husky, cask-strength, woody, viscous punch in the mouth through and through. Anyhow, the bartenders are still dynamite. If you are feeling adventurous, look for E.B. or Justin behind the bar and ask them to make you one of their respective signature cocktails with Bourbon or Rye and prepare to have your mind and liver blown. The place is terrific. If you've been there, you already know, if you haven't, check it out and you'll be sold after the first smoke and drink. P.S. Go on Friday nights and harass my cigar aficionado in residence, Tony, in the humidor. He's recommended half my regular smokes. Dude is a cigar mad scientist, genius. The La Aroma de Cuba Noblesse and Rocky Patel Opulence are my current picks.

If you enjoy good bourbon/whiskey and cigars this place is made for you. The markup on the cigars is not high, nothing more then you would pay in a downtown cigar store, the drinks are stiff and they are not shy with the pours. The service is top notch and its a great place to hangout with friends. The dress code just feels right here also, brings the ambiance up.

came here for drinks and cigar on a saturday night...place was very crowded...they advertise with state of the art air filtering system for the cigar smoke...but it seemed like it couldn't keep up with packed house with everyone smoking up the cigar inside. We put our name down for a table...but waited over 2 hours to get table...while waiting...we ended up getting a drinks and a cigar...and smoke on the floor...yes i know...this is cigar bar...but guy to girl ratio was about 20 to 1...lol...not a good place to meet girls...they did had a great selection with scotch...but price was on the bit of high end...I would definitely try it out sometime during weekdays...perhaps i can actually get an nice table to enjoy my single malt and a cigar..

When it comes to a cigar bar this is not what I or anyone I was with had in mind. Minimal seating. Old fashioned drinks $14 which I have never paid anywhere in Philly. I miss the old mahogany that gave it a executive feel. If you are looking for a bar this is a great place. If you want the feel of cigar lounge this doesn't make the cut.

My boyfriend was excited to stop in here this past Friday after anxiously awaiting their opening. He frequents Holt's downstairs, and used to enjoy a cigar or two before, when it was Mahogany's. We walked up the steps to a friendly, warm greeting by the hostess. She seated us right away in the lounge area. The space is absolutely beautiful. But that's where the positives stop. The service was horrible, if not non-existent. For the 10-15 minutes my boyfriend and I sat there, no one came over to greet us or take our order. And it wasn't even busy in there. I attempted to make eye contact with 4 separate employees, whom all ignored us. The one waitress, who seemed to be working our section, even bent down to chat with another table for several minutes before taking pictures for a larger group behind us. The next thing I noticed was the hostess bringing waters to the table that sat down after us, who also hadn't been greeted by any waitress. Maybe we would have stayed if we had received the same, but at this point my boyfriend suggested we leave, which is what we did. It would have been one thing if they were busy, but they weren't. The experience was a super let down for my boyfriend since he had been looking forward to it. Maybe they're still working out the kinks since the place is new, but I'm not sure we'd give it another try.

I have been smoking cigars for about a year and half now and I must say this place has made me love it a lot more. It's very upscale and the drinks are great. The staff there is hit or miss. There's a couple guys who are cool and there are some who really don't care but overall I enjoy myself every time I go. I will say that you need to get there early because once it get packed there is a long wait.

Please let me preface my comments with a little background - I'm from Minnesota where just about everything is outlawed by a state that takes the 'n' out of fun. Cigar bars are on the "we can't have people doing that" list, so just the fact that someone bucks the nanny-state psyche of having to protect us from everything and actually invests in opening an establishment such as this earns two stars from me. We were in Philly for a convention last week and patronizing a cigar bar was high on my list of things to do. I was not disappointed by Ashton and my thanks to the Concierge at the Marriott for his recommending it to us. We were greeted by a friendly hostess at the top of the stairs who immediately ushered us in toward seating by the walk-in humidor. There, she offered us our choice of seats and we selected two leather chairs against the wall. There were ample tables, cutters, matches, and ashtrays intermixed with the chairs. The hostess provided us a pair of leather-bound menus - one for drinks and the other for cigars. Within a moment of being seated, our server arrived to take our order. She recommended one of their signature cocktail creations to my companion, a tequila-based concoction Ashton's calls the El Diablo Suave, which she elected to try. I ordered a Davidoff Anniversario and a neat Jameson Gold Reserve. Our drinks and my cigar were delivered back to us within 2 - 3 minutes. My companion thoroughly enjoyed her "smooth devil" and ordered a second one to follow. We enjoyed Ashton's ambiance for the next hour or so - the time it took me to take the Davidoff down to the ring band. During this time, our server stopped back frequently to check on us and would visit for a moment or two to answer our questions about the establishment. She was very friendly and attentive during our visit. She explained that Ashton had only been open for 5 - 6 weeks at the time of our visit and that the space used to be another cigar bar in years past. Overall, we loved the place right off. We noted the clientele ranged from people in jeans and flannel shirts to business attire. The music was at a volume that allowed for conversation and the selection ranged from jazz instrumentals to classic rock; even a Neil Young tune made the play list. We were very comfortable and felt "at home" during our visit. I appreciated the fact that the smoke scrubbers were not too aggressive and actually let smoke linger long enough to let you know you're in a cigar bar. The only things that could have improved our experience regard the delivery of my cigar: our server simply delivered it still in the cellophane wrapper and set it on the table. While people have their own preferences for clipping and manner of lighting, I would have preferred to have the cigar presented with wrapper removed and to have the server at least offer to assist with clipping and lighting it for me. Overall, we had an enjoyable evening and were left with a very favorable impression. If 4.5 stars were an option, I would have given that rating. I'd definitely visit them again and can easily recommend Ashton to others. Light 'em up!

Great, clean atmosphere with a sleek, sophisticated layout with pretty good service. A nice selection of drinks and even better signature drinks. Will definitely be going back next time I'm in Philadelphia!

My initial review was based on my impressions in the opening week. I have noticed, now that it's been a month, that things are generally a lot more polished. The wait staff has improved, the bar selection is even better and it's a better experience. You definitely need to check this place out if you are a cigar smoker and want a nice place to have a drink and hang out.

Went looking for a nice place to enjoy a cigar and have a drink. Ashton's was perfect. Servers were knowledgeable about both cigars and Bourbons. The place was busy but not overly loud... you could either have a conversation or watch a game. Prices were what you would expect. Not cheap but not overly expensive either.

Have to write a review for this newly renovated cigar bar!!! Frequented the place before the renovation and have been by cigars by the box at Holts. Was very turned off and insulted by the short male dark haired host last Saturday evening. He was there the last time I stopped by a few weka back. I was out for a long walk and a cigar. Stopped in and was told "We have a dress code!". I quickly asked if I was not dressed appropriately and was TD my sweatpants were not acceptable. They were not sweatpants but expensive rain pants costing more than most of the blue jeans I saw in the place. I told him I would remove my new ball cap and promise to sit at the bar. He finally said ok. What an A_S! I spent over 100.00 dollars in the place that night and probably more than the inexperience 20somethings did having their first cigar in life. Rest of staff was very nice and bar service superb! Loss the loser at the front door.

Oh how I wish we had this in DC. We were in Philly for 3 days and spent 2 of them here. Our age is 49 and 54. The staff beautiful and on top of their game. The cigar selection is complete and way below retail. The Scotch selection was second to none. But best of all how beautiful the place was designed and how I felt that I could stay there all evening. Our waitress Christina was engaging and professional. I think I need to move to Philly.

I travel weekly, and know of no other cigar bar of this caliber between NYC and DC! Philly, you've got a winner!!!

Wish I could give a full review but we never made it through the front door. About 8 of us had come from a nice dinner and were looking to wind down the night over a whisky and cigar. We had read on their own site about a 'business casual' dress code and didn't have any worries all coming from work. As we approached, the bouncer immediately sized us up and pointed out one of our party in an argyle sweater....with a hood. He asked what he was wearing underneath (an undershirt) and told us all that we weren't welcome. Between the bunch we would gave been quite civil and spent plenty to justify our entry. It was sad though to be turned away over such a trivial piece of fabric on a guy in slacks, nice shoes, and a plan to drop a significant amount. I understand the desire to "keep it classy" but some discretion may have gone a long way. I'm sure I wouldn't be posting this nor the 8 of us wouldn't be retelling the story and so on. Hood no good?
