Awesome crust when it is hot! Don't try to reheat this stuff tho. I can eat nearly ANY pizza cold or reheated, but not this one. Try the sausage ad it's their best topping. Kinna pricy bit very tasty. It is definitely the kind of pizza you either love or hate. One other thing I should mention is their menu is completely limited to pizza! No apps or salads here. If you want to eat here on Friday expect at least an hr wait too.

I ate here once with a girl I was dating from this area. She insisted we stop here for the pizza. Walking into this place on a Friday night was somewhat like a Steven King movie. Very strange folk all around you (sorry locals, but it's true). We got a pitcher of Coke and plastic dixie cups (the kitchen size ones) to drink and the pizza came out shortly after. You could tell it was pizza, but it didn't really look like pizza. I was kind of scared to try it, but when I did, it was really, really good. It kind of tasted like pizza, but kind of didn't. It's almost impossible to explain. Whatever their pizza is... It is good. I don't date this girl anymore and live over 2 hours away from here, but I am tempted to take a road trip here again sometime (most likely during daylight hours) with my camera phone in hand to get a few pictures of this hell hole and to order a few of these "pizzas" to take home and let my friends down here try. Andy's truly is an experience you have to see and taste for yourself because no one has an imagination this wild.

Went after 9 PM on a Wednesday night, they were still open, luckily. Are open to 10 PM. Pizza was excellent, I miss going here years ago, one bite of the pizza and remember loving this pizza. Ambience is not there, but in this area, it is the norm. They have birch beer soda on tap!

GOOPY AWESOME CHEESY RADICAL PIZZA HUMPIN! Not for you boring right wing new york style pizza eaters! Think OUTSIDE THE MOZZ

Awesome pizza, terrible service. If you can get past the rude staff the pizza is damn tasty.

I know Andy's isn't traditional American pizza (NY or Chicago) but I *love* it. I cannot stress that enough. I grew up in Los Angeles, but my dad was from the Scranton area. We went back/go back to see family at varying intervals, but there is one thing we NEVER miss... Andy's Pizza. It's our arrival-night tradition, and we usually eat it 3 or 4 more times in a week long trip. When we don't all go back to visit as a group, inevitably someone calls the rest of us still at home and taunts the others about eating Andy's Pizza. Yes, we love it that much. There's nothing like Andy's Pizza out where I live, and I've even inquired about having some par-baked, dry-ice frozen pizzas from Andy's overnighted out to our family in LA so we can finish cooking them in the oven in between trips. It's a little cost-prohibitive, but we'll probably take the plunge during the holidays. Andy's might not be for everyone, but I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

I'm rating on the pizza. It's an area favorite and always excellent. Unique recipe. Just a typical bar pizza joint. Relaxed always nice people work there. Again 5 stars cuz that's the pizza!!!

Excellent pizza. My first time trying this pizza. They were quite accommodating us on a Sunday. We needed 7 pies for a family gathering, and they were so kind as to have it ready for us as soon as they opened. All 7 boxes were gone in moments. The sauce and cheeses made every bite perfect. I really look forward to my next visit to the area, this will be one of my first stops.

I would give Andy's 5 stars but they still only accept cash. it's 2015 - get with the program. I wish I could say that didn't stop me from going there more often but it totally does. I prefer to order from the local gas station around the corner that Andy's let's make and sell their pizza. As for the pizza - it is AMAZING. Sausage and onion is the way to go. Hot, cold, whatever. It's phenomenal. It has gotten a little iffy some nights in the past decade but it's still the best. I always get it with some of their mid valley bottling company's cream soda. (which is also second to none. cream soda should be RED!) The cheese sticks to the roof of your mouth, the dough is nice and soft. Not too thick or thin and definitely NOT hard or crunchy. It's perfect. It's not really old forge style.. it's better. it's valley pizza. I don't mind dining in. sure, it's not the most comfortable place but it's far from the worst. NEVER try to eat in after a football game at valley view. just don't do it. also, avoid Friday's during lent. It's a lot like torture trying to get pizza from there at either time. Either way, do yourself a favor and get yourself some pizza and cream soda. If you don't like it - I feel sorry for you.

By far the best pizza in the valley. My number one stop when I return from out of state. This pizza (and other Midvalley pizzas) is unlike anything you'd have anywhere else in the country. To outsiders it might seem off, what with this goopy, liquid cheese and fluffy thick crust, but just give it a chance. It has a unique taste you'll never forget. Get your tray (yes, it's a tray. Welcome to the NEPA valley. It comes on a tray, therefore you order a tray. Why is this so hard for some people?) well done, burnt cheese on top is heaven.

Wow...a treasure...has the lobster arancini, pretzel bites, fried haddock and ASK for his mothers cucumber salad! Sooo good, omg go here even if you don't drink...the food is AMAZING no joke ppl! Even take out...better than some 4 star places I've been and followers you know I've been around! So stop in, stop by..eat drink and be merry!

You people are crazy and insane. must be a local "grown up on it thing" the pizza is like a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup sauce and veveeta cheese. this is like pizza you make at home when there is nothing else in the house to make to eat. you have to stand this dark crowded narrow hallway for your order. they arent called "pies" or "pizzas" they call them "trays" to be special. good experience to suck in genuine scranton area culture, its very unique.

  • Marie H.

The best local pizza with the most unique tasting pizza dough. Dough tastes like there's beer in it. Pizza is the only thing on the menu. Sausage is great too.

I've lived all over the U.S., from Scranton to San Francisco to Dallas, Atlanta, Philly, Memphis, Orlando and many other places in between....and I can say without a doubt, Andy's Pizza is THE BEST pizza in the United States. Period.

  • Abbey H.

Second favorite pizza ever. Some love it and some hate it. Try ordering it with extra cheese and well done. Perfect combo. If you like spicy, try the Sweet and Hot. It was a lent special but was so popular it became permanent. It's a sweet sauce with jalapeños.

****Fair warning----this review is biased because of nostalgia..... So--I now live in the New Haven, CT area...Legendary place for pizza---Sally's, Pepe's, Modern, Bar, etc..... So...when I go 'home' (Forest City/Carbondale, PA area), and I tell my husband it is time for a stop at Andy's---he kind of cringes....but he goes along and eats the 'pizza' begrudgingly....well, the man eats anything---so I think he just amps up his supposed displeasure to say he 'sacrificed' himself...(as he swallows 4 slices in ten minutes)..... Okay---I know the crust is kind of doughy--and there is an 'interesting' blend of cheeses, but I grew up on this stuff--so to me--it is the original pizza.....

  • Shawn B.

Best non-sicilian pizza in the area. It is a must have whenever I get a chance to be in the area. The servers are EXTREMELY rude.....be ready to deal with that....but the pizza will not disappoint. The establishment itself is also a bit divey (not in a good way) and hasn't changed much in 30 years or more (as far as I can remember at my age). Get the pizza as take-out.

    (4)
  • Ashley C.

The worst pizza ever! Major disappointment. The whole pizza is a mushy gooey disaster. I ordered a pepperoni pizza and the cheese was nothing like I've ever had before it was gooey and stuck to the roof of my mouth and teeth. Nothing like a traditional pizza.

    (1)
  • Robert G.

Obviously, this isn't what most people call traditional pizza. But it still is pizza, and fantastic pizza at that. I always just get the usual "round plain". Andy's is basically a thick, round pizza with the typical oddball cheese combo. But that unusual combo is what makes it so delicious. Gooey, stick to your mouth cheese. This is clearly not the usual NY style, so no need to compare it to that. As far as the "old forge style" goes, this is the best round OF style I've had in all of NEPA.

As I sit here and plan our trip home I jump on yelp to see what the hours of operation are to make sure that we get this stop in on our itinerary. Yes that is correct! Andy's would make the best location for Drive-In's, Diners and dives with Guy Fieri. Let's talk about the way most other reviews of Andy's pizza chose words to tear down such a great FAMILY owned establishment. If you want to be pinky up with your over priced chain restaurant palate then please do not go to a place that is truly one of a kind, vintage and original. In this day and age some forget where the roots to business came from....that's right mom and pop shops! Be a supporter of small business not a hater! As for pizza if you think Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa Murphy's and CiCi's is good eats then shame on your parents for raising you on chain food restaurants. Craftsmanship comes from hand rolled, homemade sauce and a family secret recipe! Kudos and YmmO to Andy's pizza.

Contrary to other reviews, it is not a sletchy neighborhood AT ALL. There is very little parking, but everyone who loves pizza(all of us) should give it a try. Very interesting pizza and some will not like it, but others will love it. Hafta try it to find out.

  • C W.

LOVE their pizza. It's so good. It's not a typical pizza. The cheese is the kind that sticks in your mouth. The dough is softer. The sauce is orange. But it's delicious. It's a really simple place with a limited menu.

  • Jay L.

This place has been around for ages & never lost it's quality. Another family owned & operated establishment that has their craft perfected. The cheese is amazing. It sometimes takes a while to get your order but perfection can't be rushed. My friends from out of state & I always meet up here around Christmas time each year it's become a tradition I hope we don't break anytime soon.

Best pizza in the entire northern valley. It's been the pinnacle of valley pizza and a house hold name. Went there with family and it was superb. Enjoy!!!

  • Mac G.

Still the best of the best after so very many decades. No, it isn't your typical pizza. Yes, it is a dive bar with a dive restaurant seating section. Yes you should absolutely get yourself a few "well done" pizzas. It's an original style pizza all it's own. Delicious chewy crust which I believe has potato in it, perhaps beer. Delicious hot, and perhaps even better cold from the fridge the next morning.

Lately, I've been going on a pizza tasting adventure with my girlfriend. Scranton, PA is suppose to be the Pizza capital of the world and she's from PA so it was a great place to start. Our first stop was Andy's Pizza. She raved about how amazing it was but when I tried it I was quite disappointed. It tasted like an grilled american cheese sandwich to me. Quite disappointed....

Oddly, I did not grow up on Andy's Pizza and I still like it. I was introduced to it when I was an open-minded undergraduate ... and, it really is one of those "pizzas" one does not forget. And, yep, it is super polarizing. (My boyfriend loathes it. He growls in frustration when I even suggest the place. He positively refuses to visit since their menu has NOTHING else and he believes that this "cannot possibly be considered pizza by any definition"). So, the confusing reviews you see here are very much the truth. You either hate it or crave it. Me? I crave that layered American cheese bubbled brown on the top and the slightly sour taste of the crust (in the very best way). One of the reviewers here mentioned that she heard beer is added to give it that distinct flavor ... man, that makes total sense! And, don't mistake it for a hipster dive. Just because they have "colas" (we feel pretty sure that they use SodaStream) and a super restricted menu, doesn't mean it is hipster ... this is positively local (for better or worse ... often that "pick-up truck" sorta "worse"). I am removing two stars merely as a result of infuriating parking issues. The two last times we visited, we LITERALLY had to go elsewhere (i.e. Dickson City) as a result of NO PARKING. There is NO street-parking on either side. There is only the smallest parking lot in the back (accommodating about twelve cars) and the narrow passageway is frequently entirely blocked by people picking up pizzas. The surrounding businesses either have their parking lots CHAINED off or they TOW! And that is no joke. We have zero intention of returning as a result of TWO visits to this out-of-the-way area (Peckville?) when there was LITERALLY no parking available. NONE! (Maybe they too should threaten to tow those goofs who park IN THE passageway and block the parking lot. AND, no, we will not drive up and down the alleys of this already sketchy, sketchy, sketchy area! Unthinkable.) Hence, Andy's Pizza will remain a fond memory for me and a weird nightmare for my boyfriend. NOTA BENE: This establishment is CASH ONLY!!!

When's the last time you had a pizza who's entire top layer of cheese is so gelatinous that you half expect Bill Cosby to come out and ask where the jello at? Made with delicious American cheese and possible contamination of who knows what from what I imagine has to be a sketch-ball kitchen. But that's all a part of the charm and excitement. This pizza is seriously the bomb. Hot, cold, medium temps, in the car, on the bus, in the shop, on Mars... this stuff holds up. Next time you wanna get intimate with any entire tray, there is no finer choice.

I love Andy's pizza. It's not a NY style pizza and I would not call it Old Forge either. It is just Andy's. My favorite way to order it is "well done". The crust is thick and bready, the cheese is some sort of blend, my guess is American, cheddar, and something else. But then, there is a liquidy cheese in the sauce, that is my favorite part. I did not like Andy's the first time I had it, I think it tasted like alcohol. But then someone told me to order it "well done" and I have been in love ever since.

Review is for pizza alone. Best pizza in the area. Definitely best eaten in house. Place is a dive - no question, but it was been there forever, and from what I taste, the pizza has not changed from what I remember when I was a youngin'.

This pizza is supposedly legendary in the area known as the mid-valley, so I was excited to try it. One enters into a vestibule that contains a bench, a wall-mounted menu and a few doorways - but nobody in sight. Evidently, you're just supposed to "know" to go sit down someplace and that you'll eventually be served. We entered door #1, which leads to the "dining room" (generously speaking) and had a seat in one of the booths. The "dining room" is dimly lit by front-porch-style outdoor sconces and was quiet to the point of being completely awkward; creepy, actually. There was a jukebox present but it appeared to be unplugged. We shared this small room with four other occupied tables. Even the table of four 13 year olds wasn't enough to liven up the place. I will give them credit for the largely authentic vintage advertisements that grace the wall, but other than that, this was really an unpleasant place to dine. When the server arrived (who was also tending the empty bar on the other side of the building) my dining companion ordered a plain cheese pizza, a pepperoni pizza and a pitcher of beer. I asked for a menu (which I thought might include things other than the pizza listed on the wall in the vestibule), but was directed via the server's pointer finger to a small sign on the table. It was a list of pizza toppings. No prices were listed. Really? So, the pizza arrived... and just by looking, I could tell I was about to be tremendously disappointed. It appeared to be a disc of undercooked dough with a pale, pudgy crust topped with a vile, goopy sludge of what I can only describe as a pureé of American cheese and Campbell's tomato soup. Appearances - for once! - were not deceiving. It was certainly edible, just like Wonderbread, American cheese and Campbell's tomato soup are edible in the form of a grilled cheese dipped into said soup. This just happened to be... combined, and had no discernible amount of seasoning. On the other pizza, the pepperoni helped a bit, but not much. I don't consider the product here to be "pizza" at all. It certainly is comprised of pizza-like ingredients and baked in an oven, but it's simply not pizza. It's some kind of deranged grilled cheese. These were 12" pies (eight small slices per pie) which cost $10 (just cheese) and $12 (pepperoni). I thought the prices were high considering the murky atmosphere, flat ingredients, poor preparation and weird service. The proverbial icing on the cake: cash only. I normally take a star off for any business that is cash only, aside from the rare instance that they pass the savings along to customers and deliver an exceptional product. Andy's certainly doesn't.

Best pizza dough, fresh made daily. Their "famous" pizza is definitely a must try, it has a unique flavor that I think is a combo of american cheese blended with the sauce and then topped with the mozzerella & toppings. I'm Not sure what the secret is...that's just my guess!! However they make it all I know is it's very tasty! The place is very typical of a Northeastern PA coal town bar/restaurant. People who bash the decor are just from out of town ....if you live there or have been to the area, you know it looks just like all the other places in the surrounding area. The service is simple & fast, walk in place your order & go. No fancy shenanigans necessary....its just PIZZA folks! Also a nice little bar on the other side of the dining room if you want to grab a beer while you wait. BRING CASH! They do not accept anything else. There is a ATM right across the street.

Delicious pizza! Heard they use beer in the crust, whatever they use it's great, yum!

I suppose I am one of those "If you are one of those one dimensional "NY style pizza is the only legit pizza" types then maybe its not for you. I love it!" as stated by Maria D. But indeed I do actually enjoy this variation of PA style pizza it's a total change from the norm for me. Being I'm a born NY'er through and through and NY pizza is the best, this is definitely something different than what I'm used to. The crust is about a 1/2 thick maybe a little less, the cheese is like a white Ameriacan/procecessed Swiss but makes for a interesting texture and flavor. Give it a shot if you should be in the area for some reason....?

  • Scott B.

Terrible pizza.... American cheese does not belong on pizza. Although it's inexpensive, I would give them any more of my money.

    (1)
  • Greg E.

This is the place for a great American cheese pizza, one of the best around, though cant compete with old forge, it deserves its place in the pizza top 15 around Scranton area....

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations.
