Moio's Italian Pastry Shop did an amazing job for my daughters graduation cake. I live in the South Hills of Pittsburgh and have always bought my cakes from Bethel Bakery. I recently came across Moio's Italian Pastry Shop when in Monroeville shopping and tasted some of their amazing Italian cookies. I was hooked. I talked to Tony and he was great on helping me chose the best cake for the party. I also added those amazing cookies. The day of the party everyone raved over the cake. It was half chocolate & vanilla with buttercream frosting, strawberry filling, and had a picture of my daughter with her school colors. People kept telling me it was the most beautiful and delicious cake they have ever seen. Thank you Moio's & Tony you my not be down the road but it was worth going through 2 tunnels for the amazing cake. You were the cherry on the ice cream.

Wonderful bakery with the best cannoli I've found in Pittsburgh. The cannoli's are so close to the best I've had (Mikes Pastry, Boston) save for just a wee bit runny in the filling, but still 5 stars and delicious!

Amazing Italian bakery!!! The service was great and very helpful! We ordered many cannoli which were freshly filled! We also got some cookies, mini pies, and cake. Everything was incredible!

We heard about this place from one of our friends and we just never stopped by. We always talked about it until this one time . TALK ABOUT AMAZING. Everything here looked so good and tempting. Now its been awhile since we have been there, I should of wrote the review them but i was too busy stuffing my face haha. This place is great because it isn't a chain pastry shop. Everything is made fresh in that shop so the quality is great. The place is clean with helpful and friendly staff. Just make sure you don't go hungry because you will want one of everything.

We attempted to buy a large quanity of pastries for an office meeting in the morning and were frustrated to find out this bakery opens at 9am?! Seriously?! You're a bakery not a bank! Get some bakery hours! Ridiculous! tripadvisor.com/ShowUser…

This bakery is the stuff of dreams. I became a kid in a candy shop. With many Italian cookies, biscotti and cakes to choose from it was like being in dessert heaven. Cakes are sold whole or by the Slice -with many flavours to choose from. So you don't need to wait for someone's birthday to get a slice of 'birthday cake'! Super friendly service! We don't have stuff like this in Toronto. It's time our bakeries step up to this plate! Love it here and I even took cake to bring home with me!

We tried the Canoli and some of their cookies. The Canoli are pretty big. They freshly fill them when you order. They tasted pretty good, not the best I've had it I'd give it 4 stars. The cookies are good too - 4 stars as well. Hopefully we will get to try some of their pastries next time. They have a pretty big selection.

I haven't been to the actual store, but I stopped by their stand at Bloomfield Little Italy Days last night. My lab manager claimed that they have the best cannoli there, and they had a prominently displayed sign that claimed likewise. The cannoli ran $4 each, and could be filled with ricotta, chocolate ricotta, or both. I opted for a combination, since ricotta is my standard for comparison, but I wanted to try the chocolate ricotta, too. (I preferred the chocolate filling slightly.) The ends came dipped in chopped nuts, which I wasn't particularly thrilled about, since I prefer my deserts without nuts, but they did add some interesting texture. Overall, the cannoli was pretty good, but I preferred the one I had last year from a different stand, which I recall being slightly larger and less expensive, and being dipped in chocolate chips on the ends, which I prefer to nuts. So, I'm afraid I must disagree with the claim that this is the best cannoli in PGH--or at Little Italy Days. If I get out to Monroeville, I'll have to stop by to try their other pastries. If I do, I'll update this review accordingly. 3.5 stars. EDIT: They charge over $1 more for cannoli at Little Italy Days than they normally do at the bakery. While I get that their stand is very popular, considering that the best cannoli of my life at Termini Bros. cost $4, I don't think it's worth the inflated price.

Stop by after work for the first time. Pastry and shop were beautiful. I'd say the service was below average. I asked for three cannoli's only got one. I asked for my pastry to be put in a box as opposed to bag because I didn't have intentions of eating them all at once, the clerk objected saying the box would look empty but did it anyway. I felt a bit of resentment. Pasty a la carte is better. I'd rather drive the distance for better service.

The cookies are outstanding and so are the canolis. Service was fast and friendly. Huge selection. I live out of state but will be ordering online when I need my fix. Great bakery

If you love Italian pastries, look no further. Our friends found this little shop in a strip mall on a road trip to Ohio and we are hooked. The store workers are so friendly and every customer tells you it's the best pastries in the state. Try their tony-misu. It's so good!

I stopped by here a couple of Saturdays ago with my wife and her parents for an afternoon snack. We decided to come here after seeing an article about their sfogliatelle's in the local paper. As my wife's' parents are Italian and originally from NYC, they love sfogliatelles and have imparted their love of them to their daughter as well. Whenever you first enter Moio's the first thing that you notice is the wedding cakes which are everywhere. There is a huge variety of them too and many are quite pretty. After meandering around the shop for a bit while looking around at all of the goodies, we finally made our way up to cash register. While the rest of my party all ordered the sfogliatelles, I ended up making a spur of the moment change and went with what I would call a large lady lock. What prompted my change was a note on a sign above it which was for the pasticciotti saying that it was supposed to have some lemon flavor in the filling. I incorrectly assumed the sign was for the item underneath it when after looking at pictures of pasticciotti later, it clearly was not. With our pastries purchased, we proceeded to head back to one of the small tables in the corner of the restaurant to eat while perusing their wedding cakes books. I started to eat my lady lock and thought that it was a good lady lock but I was slightly disappointed by the lack of lemon flavor. Obviously in retrospect this was my own fault for the misunderstanding and I wish that I hadn't been expecting it. My wife also let me try her sofgliatelle and I thought that it was good even if there are better ones in Pittsburgh. What caught me off guard about this sfogliatelle was that it was not shaped like the traditional ones. It almost looked like a sandwich with the ricotta in between two halves instead of a seashell with the ricotta filling fully enveloped. The bottom line for me is that I would come back here again in the future. I enjoyed everything that I tried and I am pretty sure my wife would love to try one of the cannolis which they fill freshly for you.

We stopped for dessert after lunch and felt like two kids. The selection is overwhelming. So many delicious-looking things. My wife got the German chocolate cake, and I got Tony-misu. Neither of us were disappointed. So good. We got another little treat to go and promptly ate it in the car. Also got some cannoli for later (like an hour later). The staff were very attentive and friendly, like they loved their jobs. Who wouldn't, being surrounded by such delicious pastries every day?

A Fat Kid's Paradise! When you walk in the door and become enveloped in that tasty, sugary, yumminess that you only find in a good bakery, your instantly turn into a kid again. When I saw the display case of cakes, tarts, and cookies my jaw dropped and I immediately started to drool. I swear I ordered a dozen cookies, a ricotta tart, German chocolate cake, tiramisu, and a coconut puff (eyes are bigger than my stomach). I could have ordered ten times more, but told myself no. I will say that all of these items were consumed in less than 24 hours... I don't regret it. My waistline? Maybe... Moio's - I will be back. Please keep me to a $20 minimum... My bank account and figure will appreciate it.

Moio's is just what I would expect from an Italian bakery. They have all the standard cookies, pastries, etc. During the summer months, they also have fantastic Italian Ice. I've tried several things from them, including cakes, and all have been good. tThey have a good variety of items and there is something in every price range. The prices are higher than some other places I've been, but the quality makes up for the slightly higher price. Inside the shop, it is fairly small, but there are several tables where you can sit and enjoy your baked good or italian ice purchase (or browse through their wedding cake books). One thing I don't understand is why they seem to not have updated their wedding cake portfolio since 1980. I wasn't going to get my cake there since my wedding is in Buffalo, but I was curious and flipped through their book. They were so "old school" it was almost laughable. They even had fountains in one of the photos! Although I shouldn't laugh, because maybe they have a lot of people that request that type of cake. If you find yourself in the Monroeville area and are looking for a good dessert, or if you are looking for a tasty special occasion cake, I recommend Moio's.

Moios has one huge problem: too many great things to try that one is overloaded by not knowing what to try first. This place is awesome.

I love, love, LOVE Moio's! For the best Italian pastries in the Pittsburgh area, you must go to Moio's. They are a family-run business based out of Monroeville, PA. Some of my favorites include their cannolis, almond-cherry cake, raspberry-buttercream cake, chocolate brownies, and lady locks. In addition, Moio's has a pastry that blew my mind the first time I tried it - the fruitabella. The fruitabella is a fruit tart that can be purchased as a single serving or an entire pie. It is only available during the spring and summer seasons, so it is important to get it while it lasts! It looks beautiful with all of the bright colors of the fruits, yet its taste is what makes it truly unique. With so many delicious looking cakes, cookies, and pastries, the fruitabella may not be the first item that attracts your eyes, but it really is a hidden treasure of Moio's. Not only does Moio's have amazing pastries, but they also have GREAT customer service! The employees are so friendly, and the bakery is always kept nice and clean. I give this bakery two thumbs up!

Great pastries, I stop by for every special occasion I need to bring something. Today, the blonde woman, not to be confused with the really nice blonde woman with great customer service but the blonde woman with a horrible attitude and bad customer service, this post is for you. If you do not like working on the weekend or in the service industry or just plain hate filling cannolis, please find a new job. You made us feel like we were asking too much when we pointed at pieces in the case, made under breath remarks about filling our cannolis and just forgot to give me the baklava we paid for but did not receive. And.....this is after you were down right rude to the customers ahead of us. For all the delicious sweet things in the case, they can not compensate for the bitterness in your soul.

What a little treasure of a place just hidden away. The sign outside does it no justice. I drove by this place sooooo many times and never thought about going in. One day, out of no where, after a gym workout (ironically) I decided to stop in. I was in sweet heaven, so many cakes, cookies, etc, i didnt know what to do with myself. So i did what any normal person would, I got almost one of each little piece of cake. One of my favorites is the key lime tart, its delicious and just the right amount of sweetness. Yes, it did get a little pricey, but totally worth it. Stop in, get a cake, and be happy :)

Me and a Friend went there Yesterday before Returning to Northern Virginia it is a place to stop before you leave the Pittsburgh area or coming in Moio's is right off the Pa turn Pike off Route 22 or William Penn HWY they do traditional italian pastry and how you know that it isn't over done with sugar that is how european pastries are done the Cannoli is not supposed to Be too sweet and that is the first place I tryed the Sfogliatelle. and their Tiramisu is out of this world so if you are leaving Pittsburgh or coming into Pittsburgh stop by Moios in Monroeville

After wandering about Pier 1 Imports for a spell trying to kill time waiting for NTB to get the Kaymobile up and running so we could finish our 4 hour journey East, I coaxed Kay to come into Moio's with me. Fellas, getting my girl to enter a bakery with me is like getting your girl to go to the strip club with you. A woman will often get jealous, insecure when her man is ogling naked nymphs. Kay becomes indignant when I leer at...pastries. Imagine how she felt when I walked out with nearly $20 worth of adulterous goodies and had the gall to eat some of them while traveling. What was even worse was the moment she caught me...with one of them...in bed. I didn't think we were going to go to Benton, so I stocked up. I had no choice but to take them with me. I mean, some of the sweet, sweet gimcracks needed to be chilled. There wasn't enough room in her grandparent's icebox, so...I quickly tried to eat the Mocha Mountain and the micro Fudge Pecan Pie before she...surprised me...in our guestroom. "Darren!!! HOW COULD YOU???" The crumbs were on the bed. The aluminum pan from the mini-pie was lying on the floor. The Mocha Mountain was halfway eaten. Infidelity, thy name is Moio's! Kay, however, is guilty as well for she partook of a Coconut Macaroon on the way over. I also purchased the err...*adjusts collar* "services" of a brownie and a few other tricks and treats whose names I have quickly forgotten, cheap pastries-of-the-evening that they were. I mean, how could I not? The mesdames behind the counter were so eager to help me find the illicitness I craved, making me feel comfortable with my lust. Peering through the glass, I found that the confections all looked so comely, mysterious, enticing, aglow under the bright lights. My will had become candy glass. Can my ladylove forgive my indiscretion? youtube.com/watch?v=yk9A…

I just don't see it. I live in Monroeville and have been to Moio's many times. I'm never really that wowed by their pastries and have even thrown some stuff away. The staff is very friendly, and there are some things that I like (the coconut creme pie is very good, and some of the specialty cakes are good). The regular cakes though are nothing to write home about; they don't hold a candle to Oakmont or Jean-Marc. And trust me, I LOVE cake, but I will leave Moio's on my plate.

I ordered a white almond half sheet with chocolate buttercream, and the cake itself was very light and flavorful, just as I would expect from an Italian bakery. The frosting was decent, but it didn't have a very rich chocolate taste as I would prefer.

Delicious. Really, that's an entire review itself. Everything that I've tried from Moio's has been amazing - cannoli, cakes, cheesecake, cookies... especially the Tony-misu. That is hands down the best tiramisu I've ever had. Like other reviews have said, the customer service at Moio's is excellent - they are friendly and efficient.

Always serving up the best italian pastries! I usually stop by at least once a month--12x or more a year--to pick up some tasty cake pieces for me and the fam! They also have delicious homemade canolis, and for the holidays a rare chocolate fudge pecan pie that is rich and delicious! I can't say enough good about the food, quality and friendly staff! Thanks Moios for always serving up the best!!!

There is nothing more drool worthy, or memorable, than an Almond Raspberry cake from Moio's...(especially as a wedding cake) My Mother and Grandmother even rave about this cake. I'm also pretty sure I've gotten those pignoli cookies to go and devoured them all in the car on the way home. Shame? None here. Go get your own dose of Italian Pastries to take home...bet they won't make it half-way.

Moio's has been Pittsburgh's answer to Italian pastries for a looooong time now--and justly so! PROS: This is a very clean shop Nice staff Delicious cookies, pastries, tartes and cakes! CONS: Drooling comes at a price--its a bit costly. My FAVES: The Pignoli Cookies are to die for! Keep 'em in the fridge ;) nomnom

Yum. Yum. Yum! Loved Moio's as a child, and now that I live far away I miss all the delicious treats they offer. Ordered a package of cookies, a great selection of pignolis, macroons, butterballs and more. Worked with Tony over the phone to place the order and within just a couple of days had a lovely arrangement of beautiful, delicious cookies. Tony was very helpful and the ordering process was a breeze. Just wish I was closer to enjoy these treats more often!

So delicious! I've since moved away and I honestly miss the pastries. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they have the best cannoli I've ever had. Both the chocolate and plain are incredible. When I lived there I was about 5 minutes from Moio's and most of the cannoli's didn't make it home. The other pastries are divine as well!

I had to come to Monroeville ( just outside of Pittsburgh) for a friends funeral :-( . i know.. I know super sad. And it was. But we had to stop... and some how we were lucky enough to stop at the strip mall with this little jewel in it. Of course when I saw Italian Bakery... I thought I must stop in and get a treat for Honey and mini me. I walked in and was instantly was hipnotized by the smell of buttercream icing. Mmmmm mmmmm I swear I could almost taste it. So as I walked slowly eyeing every piece of cake, pastry, pie, cannoli, cupcake and cookie. I finally decided on the white cake with white buttercream for my two homies waiting for me to get back to MD. They are very plain and not super fans of chocolate or anything that has too much extra flavor going on... completely opposite of me. But since I was shopping for them and not myself, I had to completely control myself. How ever when I got home.. it was super late and they could not enjoy the treat. So I made sure the bag was sealed super tight. The next morning... my willpower was left in the bed as I found myself drawn to the bag with a fork taking a test bite. AAANNNDDDDDDDD when I mean I was happy, sad and satisfied all at the "SAME DAMN TIME" . The cake had a sligh almond taste.. and something was cherry tasting. I do know what it was., but Yesssssss! Happy... because this was single handedly the best thing that I had tasted since chocolate covered oreo 4 day prior. Sad... because I only purchased 2 pieces. Satisfied... Im not sure why, Im usually not satisfied with 1 bite of anything, especially not something sweet. But I was. I folded that bag back up... for them to enjoy the treat I got for them ------------------------------------------ Sometime around 4 or 5 in the evening... they remembered the treat was waiting for them. They race into the kitchen tear ...yes tear the bag open. And it was complete silence except for "mmmm mmmmm mmm this so good" Then mini me appears from the kitchen with icing around her mouth "you only brought 2 pieces" Ha ha ha ha . So this place gets 5 stars. I guess I should add the costomer service was great, nice and patient. If Im ever in the area... I'll be back.

How fitting that my first review is of Moio's in Monroeville. I first discovered this sweet Italian bakery 20 years ago while commuting back and forth to Pittsburgh. At least once a week, my car would veer right towards Monroeville instead of left to 22 East, and a cannoli or coconut macaroon would keep me company for the next 90 miles. On a recent trip to Monroeville for training, I had to stop in to see if the cannoli was as good as I remembered. When the super friendly lady behind the counter asked if I wanted cheese or chocolate or half and half, my eyes glazed over with indecision but I went for the cheese. Just as I remembered...sweet but not too sweet, light, creamy perfection. The coconut macaroons are to die for as well. Everything is fresh, and obviously made with the highest quality ingredients. The bakery is clean and the staff is friendly and eager to help. The only drawback is location. Situated in a small strip mall beside a car lot, it is easy to miss if you don't know where to look. Don't let the exterior fool you, though. Once you stop, you will keep coming back for more!

Outstanding pastry shop. You'd be hard pressed to find a better cannoli in the state. It's just on the east side of Monroeville, before the turnpike onramp. They do great pizzelles, Napoleons, and macaroons. The elephant ears aren't over-sweetened and are flakily perfect. The eclairs are rich with a very subtle custard. They do a tray of mini-pastries if you give them some notice and it's perfect to bring in to the office (you get a tray of 24 for a dollar each). They make a wonderful cake. The cookie trays are amazing. Their specialty is obviously their cannoli. You can buy a box of shells and they'll put the ricotta cream in a separate container and give you a paper funnel to put in the cream when you're ready to serve. They even throw in a container of nuts! And they're delicious. We had a dozen last week and they didn't last the night. I'll put them up against Vaccaro's in Baltimore or Mike's in Boston any day. Just wish they did breads! Monroeville is lucky to have Moio's!
