It's a big, old place with a mostly old clientele, but the decorations are pretty cool. The food, however, is just OK.

Had not been to the Towne House for years, but when I read the review about the corncob pipe, I could not stop laughing... so true! As that other reviewer said, if you've lived in Delco for a long time, you've been to the Towne House. I began to realize what a local institution the Towne House was, and, with mostly-fond memories stirred up, I convinced my non-local husband to take me out for a Towne House dinner. We visited on a nice quiet week night late this past fall. A couple bar patrons, and maybe three other parties were in the dining room with us. Of course there was one banquet in progress; a girls soccer team, who we only knew were there when they left. We had Chelsea for our server. She was very sweet and helpful. Would have wanted water filled faster / more often, and had to go to the bar to get it ourselves at one point, but she was otherwise very helpful, attentive, informed, and was genuinely interested in us having a good time. We really appreciate that, and hope our tip showed this. Absolutely delicious drinks from the bar. I couldn't decide what I wanted and asked for something sour. I was told the cocktail was basically a Whiskey Sour with grenadine, called a "Cupid's Bow," but when I tried to replicate it later, no cocktail directory called it that, and instead, gave different ingredients for a Cupid's Bow, so I wish I knew the correct name to find a recipe. Our food was good, nothing outstanding, but I don't expect outstanding from the Towne House, especially with their modest prices. I expect wholesome, consistent, decent food, and that is what we got. For a sure bet, go for pasta. The garlic bread is always a much-anticipated treat, and it never fails to deliver, in unlimited complimentary baskets. As for the people whining about the ambiance, I don't understand. Maybe it's because I have known what the interior looks like as long as I have known what the exterior looks like, but I can't imagine it looking any other way. I sincerely want to imagine what these people expected? I like the memorabilia on the wall, I like the millions of oddball romantic lamps lit up all over the place, I even like the 10,000 different patches of tile covering the floor. I would not want the interior to look like some stale, uniform, convention center type place. Nor would I expect the dining room at the late Le Bec Fin, because, after all, this is Media, people. One criticism, and this may be just me, but the costumed entertainment, which I have not recently encountered, but I believe still exists, is not my cup of tea. I steer clear of the Towne House during the Christmas season due to childhood memories of accordion-playing elves, and how the one little person elf always used to send a family friend's child into hysterics (that one elf was always drawn to the child, so this happened repeatedly). From the photo collage on the postcard mailer I got on my birthday, it appears that scary clowns, at least, are still in the Towne House's employ.

Some parts of this cavernous restaurant smell like old mops. Came here with the extended family. Brother-in-law said the clams were gritty. The produce in my sandwich seemed like it came from Acme. Iceberg lettuce, not that fresh, nothing special. Husband and daughter said the steak was tough and not cooked to their specification. Why ask if you're not going to deliver? Kids didn't finish their shared dessert.

Went to the Towne House last Sunday. It was the first time to the Towne House in about 15 years. I was somewhat apprehensive because of some reviews that I read. However, my concerns were completely unfounded. The décor is very much the same as it has been for the last forty plus years. Lots of antiques and memorabilia. This type of décor can be a little dicey if it is not kept clean and fresh. I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was fresh and clean. It was clear that they are maintaining the place. Now for the food. I had the roast turkey dinner ($16.99). Real roast turkey, real mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and green beans, Dinner came with a large salad and garlic bread. The portions were so large that I took half home. The food was very good and well prepared. My wife had the Veal Silvio ($16.99). Her dish was equally as good. She also took half home. We had an excellent bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon ($32.00). The service was excellent without being overly solicitous. We will definitely return to the Towne House and I recommend that you give it a try.

A landmark in Media with good portions and good service. Why three stars? Because the green beans we either canned or had been cooking for two days. It was the one item that everyone in our party of 13 was utterly disappointed in. Fresh veggies can make the meal . It's time to bring in a design update also, it's very dated. The rack of lamb was very good though.

Had delicious chicken parm, veggies and potatoes there recently. Always a quality spot.

This restaurant is great. The garlic bread is unreal and the best chicken parm I have ever had. The wait staff is friendly and I have booked several parties here. Very family oriented and I can see why I like it so much. Reminds me of visiting my grandparents in Italy. Highly recommend. Michael, the manager is always very accommodating and personable.

I used to come here back when I lived in Philly over 15 years ago, and I can honestly say that I'm not sure that much has changed. I guess that is part of its charm. The place is a little dark, and I remember when I used to think that this place was really upscale and fancy. However now, I'd probably say that this isn't super pricey or even pricey at all but a pretty standard restaurant. We came in on a Thursday and they have a great deal where you get a 3 course meal for $21.95. I opted for the prime rib for an additional $5. I had a house salad, the prime rib with mashed potatoes and green beans, and ice cream. While I think that the ingredients in the salad were mostly (if not all) canned and the green beans were likely frozen, the salad itself was really crispy and had a ton of veggies on it. The prime rib was surprisingly awesome, and the ice cream was some of the best that I've had. Everyone was pleasantly surprised. We came here more out of nostalgia than to seek out really great food but were all happy with our choices. I think that the only gripe that I really heard was that the crab cakes had too much breading and our server was a little ghetto. Other than that, a great family restaurant...excited to be back!

My fave place when I was a kid, I loved going to the Towne House for a big salad served in a wooden bowl, amazing garlic bread, a Shirley Temple, and a Snowball for dessert (vanilla ice cream covered with coconut, topped with a cherry). They still have fabulous garlic bread, great salads, snapper soup, and one of my favorite bars. Is it tired? Sure, but only in the way your grandmother is tired when you come to visit. She still loves you and makes your favorite foods, and her house is filled with knickknacks and memories, and you hope she'll be around forever.

Had dinner last night for valentines. Food was excellent, service was great. I had chicken Marsala, my boyfriend had crab cakes. Reason being 4 stars is because I am highly allergic to peanuts. We walked into the bar entrance not knowing that they throw peanut shells on the floor. I wish they would have noted that on their website being today that the peanut allergy is more common.

For comfort, good food, good menu, decent noise level, this is a great spot. I had dinner on Saturday with a date and my parents who are not particularly adventurous after a nice day at Longwood Gardens. We were promptly seated (w/out reservation) in a nice, cozy room and everything was efficient and great. I was very glad to have chosen this mainstay of Media due to the diverse palates at the table.

an old warhorse. reliable for group meetings biz meetings & lunch prof meetings the Towne House reeks of history & tradition. i like it because its old & reliable & nothing ever changes. others disfavor it for the same reason. a favorite of lawyers & judges.

Friday nights it is still bring your own , the other deal all week is. ( on Fridays u can't do both) is 40% off the menu before 5. . The bar has great music if you want to hear it come after 7 . The bar area has fast efficient waitress's and they are friendly . Best prime rib in Medja . A reservation is needed for the bar and music but not really necessary for the rest of the place.

A classic Old Peoples restaurant- the kind I like to go to once in a while. Great photos on the wall from past decades of happy customers. The food is just what you would expect - nothing exceptional, but completely adequate. If you are in the mood for an old fashioned Manhattan and a satisfying dinner, try it - you won't see places like this around forever.

Stopped here late on a saturday night after working and I have to say this entire place and food were a major disappointment. I was here years ago and was not that impressed then and when I was given a gift card I figured why not. Everything we ordered was bland and flavorless and simply was not good! My wife ordered a filet dinner and she is weird and likes her steak well done. I don't begrudge her I simply let it happen. She orders it and it comes out a beautiful medium. She is not pleased. I order the prime rib and although it was large a good quarter of it was "fat". I mean serious fat that I had to carve around it. The place looks huge, and It had an interesting decor but I'm simply not impressed and especially at the prices we paid for this food.

My family has been coming here for Thanksgiving and Easter dinner since my great-grandfather Tony Savastano started the tradition. We always reserve one of the banquet rooms (though the Cellar is definitely the best), and it provides the perfect atmosphere for sharing embarrassing stories from the past year, taking millions of pictures and entertaining the younger kids with plenty of decorations and pictures to look at. When I was younger, Shirley Temples from the bar and cones of popcorn from the bar made this a magical place. Now, I just appreciate the space as an absolute historic cornerstone of Media, where my mother and grandfather grew up. Sure the service is all Ridley High students and older waitresses who have served there forever, but we have never had a problem. The bartender usually sports a ridiculous handlebar mustache that is so jolly it's hard to beat. My only complaint was the one Easter where a creepy woman came into our dinner and sung weird songs about Easter while dressed as a bunny. I really hope never to experience that again. But the silver lining is that we all laugh about it each Easter while reminiscing about the 20+ years we have been coming to the Towne House.

Where do I start? Unfortunetly have been a customer far TOO MANY TIMES. Am definetly done with this place. Once enjoyed the bar atmosphere and spent way too much money on dinner TO COME HOME AND SIT ON THE TIOLET HALF THE NIGHT after spending money on way overpriced "really bad food." They offer Chicken or Veal "piccante" for well over $20., But being that they "call themselves Italian" they call It "chicken or Veal Piccante" (what is that?) Not to mention serving baked potatoes that have been cooked days before. The Old Man bartender is one of the most ignorant people I have ever encountered and by the way... good luck getting him to serve you a drink. The owner John Carney looks like he wants to kill whoever he looks at. And His wife "Owner" is one of the most disrespectful people you will ever meet! Good Luck Towne House...You are going down. bye-bye

Last night we ate here. Every item was delicious. She had crab cakes and I had the crab Au gratin for our main courses. Our server, Eric, and busboy, Austin, were excellent and attentive, even though we were, at our request, tucked away in a side room. Even the hostess who greeted us was friendly and accommodating.

I grew up going here every single day for lunch with my grandparents as a child. I loved the food as so did they, but as the place got older, everything about it started to go downhill. the food is not even worth eating, its so bad. It breaks my heart too because this is the place my mom had her wedding reception, my family had celebration dinners, and its a place that I had made wonderful memories in. But now its just a shell of what it use to be. This restaurant needs to change to survive.

My husband and I had our wedding here this summer and I can't say enough about how wonderful the experience was! Amy, the wedding planner, was a dream to work with. She walked us through the entire process and made sure that everything that we needed was taken care of from the first day of planning through the last minute of the reception. They set up the ballroom beautifully, exactly as I dreamed - I actually teared up when i saw it all set up before the guests arrived. The package that we got couldn't be beat and including hot and cold passed appetizers, 3 course dinner, our wedding cake and italian desserts, and open bar all night. Our guests raved about the food and the drinks. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and would highly recommend the Towne House to other engaged couples for their weddings!

We love the Towne House. Food is great and ambiance is wonderful. We went there for the specials and you can't beat them. We are constantly comparing other restaurants to this place! We highly recommend it if you're in the Media area.

I found this to be a charming, very old, wonderful place. The food and service was great; the atmosphere even better. Media's slogan is "Everybody's Hometown" and coming here completes that experience.

Best $50 you can spend. Tasty buffet and great entertainment for 1 1/2 hours. The Towne House in Media has always been one of our favorites for a wonderful dining spot, now offering entertainment, such as the show we attended this past Saturday night, "The Rat Pack". Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis. Looking forward to future shows. Representative from Towne House said they should be happening every 6 weeks.

Cozy, comfy, great neighborhood restaurant with a lot of town history hanging from every wall. My favorite date place with my husband. The prices are reasonable and it is always a fun time. You are always in for at least one halfway decent joke from the bartenders.

About the only positive thing I can say about our visit is that there are nightly specials so on Tuesday night there were several choices from the menu for $15.99. Considering the cost of food and that people get paid, I guess it's fair but I've had better food at a chain restaurant and certainly better service. The waitress was beyond rude, actually throwing flatware onto the table. She wanted us out badly enough that she came to the table and said " you's don't want coffee or dessert right?" So we ordered out of spite.

This is an old-fashioned diner type restaurant that attempts to pass itself off as something classy. The waitstaff is very dinery as well. The "whatdayawanthun" type. Thefood is so mediocre that you feel like they should pay YOU to eat there. I hate to be so extreme, but don't go here for the food or service. It is very dirty as well. The bar at night is kind of fun though. It is crowded and very neighborhoody.

Pub style with more upscale menu with colonial theme appropriate for the area. Service was right on point - thanks again Thomas. I really liked my bangers and mash. Wondered what ruben soup was, and Thomas brought us a sample, pretty good so I got a cup intead a of famous onion soup. IPA was good, so I had two. Some other interesting creations on the menu, along with familiar comfort food choices. Apps were good, wings with unique sauce, broussel sprouts, but chip nachos too small to share. Casual dining room, thick wood tables e chairs, and a small bar taking over the back wall. I look forward to returning.

Going strong for 60+ years, this Delco restaurant staple delivers very good rustic food and service in an English pub atmosphere: The best sautéed calves liver in pan gravy topped with bacon and onions...tender liver with still crisp bacon in a thickened au jus...FLAVORFUL! While the rooms are kept meticulously clean, the heavily antiqued decor is heavy on the eye and this interpretation of 'English pub' stands a refresh. Get here before 5pm M-F for 30% off the entire food menu for an outstanding value.

Chances are if you've lived in Delco for a long time, you've attended at least two banquets here. Chances are that if your family has lived here a long time, your uncle has had several birthday dinners here. And when I say your uncle, I'm talking about the uncle that still smokes corn cob pipes, wears bow ties, and longs for the days when Perry Como was still on tv. Yes it's a rather old and dated place. Yes, the food is definitely marketed to the early bird crowd. But I'll say that after a recent trip here just to see if it was still any good, that it was still pretty good. It wasn't spectacular, but the soup was hearty and the Chicken Caesar Salad was quite large and decent enough. In a town where there seems to be a lot of overrated restaurants, I have to give some props to a place that seems to be rated just about right. There's something to be said about consistency.

This restaurant reminded me of days gone by, complete with the bar and dining room separate entrances. We headed to the bar side to sit at the bar. Next to us was a big bowl of shelled peanuts. You know the drill - you pull out the peanut and throw the shells on the floor. The peanuts did not taste fresh as if they were sitting there a long time. The same thing with the self serve popcorn from the machine. The small pointy cups were there to make sure you don't take to much (usually there are baskets with some type of wax paper so you can share it with your friends). Even the popcorn tasted stale, like it was popped hours ago. Welcome to Ds! The bartender took our order - bourbon Manhattan and Makers on the rocks. Drinks were good - bartender seemed unhappy unless dealing with one of the many regulars. A waitress took our food order and billed us just for food. Who does that? Maybe ordering drinks and food is too complicated. I have no idea why. My girlfriend ordered the shrimp wrapped in bacon and a Caesar salad. I ordered a house favorite - chicken parmigiana with spaghetti. It came with a salad. The shrimp was good as you would expect when bacon is involved. Decent size. The Caesar salad was ok - the dressing was not typical and lettuce not crisp. The chicken parm was a huge disappointment. It was obviously not pounded out then pan fried the way great chicken parm is cooked. The spaghetti sauce tasted like it came from a jar. The salad I received was iceberg and odds and ends thrown together. Didn't touch it. The garlic bread was like the kind you cook in a tin bag. Read the review Steve S wrote for an deeper understanding of this local institution. Lucky for me, I have not been here for banquets or dinners. I doubt I'll be coming back and if I do, it will be for drinks. The food was nothing special.

Once the queen of Media with its various rooms, I brought my fiancée here after being gone for 15 years. Bad news. The crab cakes I remember were little fried balls of mush. The crabs over capellini was pretty good. Overall a three. Sorry old friend.

Very poor customer service. Went to buy a gift certificate at noon (they open at 11:30). There were people who could help me but I was told to come back 3 hours later. They obviously didn't want my money. I bought a gift certificate elsewhere.

Absolutely disappointed in a private event held in an upstairs room. ONE waiter passing tiny fried hors d'ouvres and ONE bartender at a jam packed cash bar. Not enough staff and not enough food for the crowd of 100 plus.

Sadly I Don't think we'll be back. This has been our Family Thanksgiving spot for three years. We have stopped in once or twice between. We stopped in, last minute on a Monday night in August to hopefully sit in the bar to have a burger. Though the hostess was very sweet apparently the Townhouse was too booked to really accommodate us - most tables were empty. Sigh

  • Erin O.

I've been here a few times for different events; weddings, baby showers, holiday parties, etc. I have never been disappointed in the service, and most times the food. I'm not the biggest fan of their sirloin, which is apparently their top seller. I do however, LOVE their crab cakes, which is hilarious considering I hate seafood of any kind! I'm actually having my wedding reception here, the prices are exceptional for what you get, but the most important part is the fact that the wedding coordinator Amy Chambers is AMAZING! She goes above and beyond to help you along and work with you to get everything you want and need for your big day. This was the number one reason my fiance and I chose this for our reception!
