This review is solely for the private events department of both Sophia's on Walden and Market. Please read if you are considering a private event with this group. It's long, but bear with me. Terrible experience. The food was good and our server lovely, but the awful experience I had with event planner Cornelia and owner Sophia was ridiculous and infuriating. I've worked as a server for 8 years, and am very friendly, easy going, and easy to please. I live in DC and work private events at a downtown DC restaurant, so I am used to the industry. Cornelia was abrasive, dismissive, could barely wait to get off the phone with me each call, and had a serious problem with communication. I would email with questions and wouldn't get responses for 2 weeks up to a month. I am not exaggerating. Gems such as "So do you want to book a room or not? We're really busy" when merely inquiring about rooms and rates should have been my sign to look elsewhere. All the little things piled up and it was an anxious and terrible experience to plan my party with her. I was told to notify a final head count about four days before the event. I called five days before with a final number. I should have put it in writing because, big surprise, Cornelia never communicated this. When it came time to settle the bill, I *calmly* pointed out that the head count was incorrect. We even had one less than the final quote I gave, but I was prepared for and more than willing to pay for 17 since that's how business works. And things happen, so I wasn't mad. But I expected it to be fixed. Enter owner Sophia who I thought would most certainly have some semblance of a customer service bone in her body. Nope. She flat out chided and argued with me over the difference of three people. So you're telling me because your employee dropped the ball, I have to pay for that mistake? She then said, and I quote exactly from the owner, in a threatening tone that "We will bring the headcount down, but you can't take the leftovers and I will give them to my staff to eat." ....... Speechless. No words. I can't believe this is how this woman does business. She never followed through on this threat so I'm not sure why it needed to be said at all. Other gems: $150 service charge which the actual server received NONE of / Plastic cups for beverages. I had to request actual glasses / Room was set up incorrectly even though I had expressly said a specific setup multiple times / Was told there would be two flavors of cake until they changed their minds less than a week before the event (unless I wanted to pay more) / Small portion sizes. The party was 13 ladies who ate like birds and 3 gentlemen and we nearly finished some of the food for what was supposedly for 20 people. Bottom line, there are too many good restaurants out there that will appreciate and do good business with you. Not Sophia and not her restaurants. Save yourself some undue stress and anxiety and ENJOY your event with another professional restaurant.

This little place is an amazing little find! I've eaten at the other location before but didn't even know this second spot opened!!! What an awesome atmosphere!! Beautiful decor, plenty of seating, inside and out!!! Customer service is excellent! The food would stand alone without all the other things listed above! Impressive to say the least!! My mom and I both had soup and sandwiches! The cream of mushroom soup is the best I've ever had! If I lived locally, I would be taking some home for sure!!! I got the roast beef & blue cheese on flat bread! Fresh, fresh, fresh!!! To die for!! My mom got the egg salad sandwich on olive bread and said it was the best she's ever had! We did get dessert, but are MUCH too full to eat it!! Chocolate Mousse Cake and Fresh Strawberry Shortcake. The shortcake looks nothing less than amazing!! Will be back for sure next time I'm home!!! Nice setting, and comfortable. I was there for breakfast. It seems to be a place for ladies to meet for lunch. You self order at the counter then sit down. There is a good selection of cakes and things in the display case at the counter. The food was OK but nothing special. The food did not match up with the setting. I think the clientelle woudl appreciate something a little more creative, even for breakfast. A breakfast taco perhaps, or huevos rancheros, a frittata. This could be a place where patrons would like to have a french press cafeteria with fresh ground beans of your choosing. Lunch sandwiches looked interesting, I need to go back and try dinner and give them a second look.

I stopped in to this location for lunch on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised. The color scheme is warm and inviting. I ordered the grilled turkey mozzarella sandwich. It had tender slices of turkey, large pieces of creamy mozzarella, pesto mayo, sprouts & roasted red pepper on grilled ciabatta. It was heaven on a bun! I got the red pasta salad as my side. The salad had a nice, light marinara sauce with diced red onion & bell peppers. My friend got the potato salad, which was also made in house and so good! We stayed from 2-430 and no one rushed us. I'd like to go back for dinner sometime. It's byob, too.

I read about the tree lighting at Walden and decided to take a stroll with my children. So happy I did. Walden is a little slice of heaven. And Sophia's is the perfect place for a lovely winter dinner while enjoying an evening out with family. The prices were a tad higher than what I expected. But the food was good, not spectacular.

One of my mom's and my favorite places to grab a quick healthy, delicious bite! The atmosphere is great, the food is amazing. My mom's favorite is the grilled chicken sandwich on a whole wheat bun with a peanut sauce. I love checking out their day specials whenever I go. I loved their burger with applewood bacon, homemade BBQ glaze, and the cheese I can't remember but it was delicious!! It can get pretty packed so be ready to wait for a table but the food it worth it and once the outside seating is up there will be plenty for all. They do breakfast, lunch, Dinner, and brunch on Sundays. If you love healthy, delicious food this is definitely the place to be.

Came here for brunch with my husband, kids, and my dad. Cute little place, and I was really looking forward to it. Server was very good and personable. She did accidentally drop a ramekin of syrup on my son. No big deal, accidents happen. It would've been a nice gesture to comp his meal (pancakes and bacon for $6.95) or offer a dessert, especially since we had made it known it was our first time there. Food overpriced. My husband had the open face filet that was amazing, the really good horseradish sauce made the dish. My dad had the Monte Cristo, which was your basic small sandwich. It was the same size as I would make at home. I guess I expected more for $12. I had the eggs Benedict with the chorizo sausage. The eggs were done really well but the sauce and sausage were really bland. It was also really small (especially for $14) and I left hungry. It bothers me that we could spend $64 (before tip) for 3 adults and 2 kids (no alcohol) and leave hungry. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again.

This is a pretty cool little place. It's almost brand new and located within the "Walden" housing development hence the name. There's no parking lot so you have to be lucky enough to grab a street spot or you'll be doing some walking. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We came for brunch on a Sunday and the place wasn't too packed. This is not going to make any sense but this place is almost hipster-"ish" and upscale at the same time. The hipster-"ish" may be a stretch but I'm sticking with it. Service was decent throughout the meal. Considering there were only 3 seated tables the entire time we were there, it probably could have been a little more attentive. The menu isn't very extensive but they have enough to choose from. I went with a 3 egg omelette and had some coffee with my meal. I've pretty much converted to 100% iced coffee but this place had some pretty tasty hot coffee. I enjoyed it. My omelette came with their version of home fries and toast. I rarely go out for breakfast/brunch so it was a nice change. Toast was good and the home fries were OK. They weren't bad but they weren't great. However, I did like my omelette. It wasn't huge but there was a ton of meat inside. Great sausuage, bacon and ham. I'd order it again and would definitely recommend it. Prices are a little on the steep side but this is definitely a nicer type of place. We also got some chocolate chip cookies to go that were great. They did have a pumpkin cheesecake that I wish I ordered. Oh well -- maybe next time. I do have one gripe about this place. They had 2 single stall bathrooms; 1 women's and 1 co-ed. I went to use the bathroom and the co-ed one was locked but the women's bathroom was open. I was waiting for the bathroom and then a lady came out. I kind of felt like I was in an episode of Seinfeld. I feel like they should have a men's room. That's it from me. Even with the strange bathroom situation, I'd still return.

I tend to only judge things after trying them a few times. Now that I've eaten at Sophia's two locations several times, I can honestly say that I'm ALL IN! For me, it's the flavor of fresh ingredients and creative recipes. Dinner at Walden is terrific, and Sunday Brunch is excellent. Well done, Sophia!

Went to Sophia's for the first last night. What a great vibe! Tucked into the Walden community with its outdoor patio and it's relaxing décor, Sophia has created another amazing atmosphere. The food was excellent... I highly recommend the diver scallops with pea ravioli. The service was friendly. They had a table side magician that made the rounds. Very entertaining without being intrusive.

Higher prices than most restaurants in the area, and I'm not sure the food is better quality... You pay for the ambiance and convenience (if you live here in Walden). Sometimes the quality of the food varies too. We've had great meals and gone back a few weeks later, ordered near the same thing, and it was mediocre. I was really disappointed when inquiring for the banquet space. It took forever for someone to get back (had to call 3 times and then corner the owner) to me and when they did, the prices were absolutely insane. Maybe it would work for a corporate function, but charging for tap water and a cake cutting fee for a two-year-olds birthday party that lives in the community? No thanks.

Went for Sunday Brunch with friends and I was underwhelmed. The place is pretty and clean and the Server was pleasant. However the room is small and the tables packed in tight like you would find in Manhattan. They were all full when we got there and there was a Reservation Book on the Hostess stand with a number of entries. That being the case, one would think they would have more Waitstaff. Again, the Server was pleasant, but probably too overwhelmed. We had to wait close to 10 minutes to order our drinks and she brought them back and still had to run off before taking our food order, despite the fact we had plenty of time to decide! By the time we did order, many of the tables had opened up. That being said, it should not have taken as long as it did to get our food. The food was just OK. The portion was sufficient, but with the high prices, I was expecting more. My bill was almost twice what it was the last time I went out for Brunch, and I even had a Cocktail that time. I often go out to eat in North Jersey and even New York, so I may be spoiled. But, if I am going to pay the same prices, especially in Central PA, not even Philly, I expect the same food and service quality.

Fantastic! This is the second location to the Sophia's on Market, just opened around a month ago. Husband and I just tried it. We got the Cobb salad and the coconut chicken salad. I have a feeling everything here is delicious. Love how there are so many options and many of them look to be healthy. Everything is prepared to order which I love. The service was very good too. It is BYOB. A few days later, we stopped back to get desserts to take home for V-Day, the peanut butter cake/pie is unbelievably good. It is an individual, little cake with chocolate icing and peanuts on the outside. Only concern is the lack of parking, right now, there is only street parking, they may be adding a lot at some point. I am a fan, we will be back soon. This is a must try for everyone.

I do recommend this restaurant as something very good and different to try. I tried the Reuben, which was excellent, and the Greek pasta salad. My wife tried the Greek salad which was fresh and tasty but not the best we've tried. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could.

Have been here twice. The first time we dined indoors. I was confused by the baked goods sitting around packaged for carryout, the walk-up counter and blackboard menu that they use at lunchtime. Once seated and with a menu in my hand, I found a nice variety of gourmet dishes at a reasonable price. Our second visit we dined outdoors. The planned community of Walden is not fully populated so the outdoor dining is still very quiet without a lot of cars going by. I had the Braised Short Rib ravioli special, which was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Again, everyone at my table enjoyed their meals and found their prices to be reasonable. The server assumed that one check was okay, which caused a bit of a scramble when it was time to pay. They cannot accommodate a party larger than four for outdoor seating, but that doesn't stop them from trying, which seems foolish: I hated to see large parties crammed onto tiny four-tops, but I supposed that's between Sophia and those customers. Someone commented on the small portion sizes: We found the portion sizes to be adequate, but we did not have leftovers. I would not like to see the portion size to go bigger, for that would be a waste and I'm sure the cost of that waste would be passed along to the diners. Terrific flavors, moderate prices, pleasant atmosphere and good service should read as a recipe for success!

Tried this place for the first time, and was not particularly impressed. We went for breakfast, as we saw they had different varieties of Eggs Benedict on the menu. We each ordered a different type, and both were disappointed. I had the classic, and my eggs were overcooked, the sauce was bland, and the potatoes were warm...not hot. My husbands sauce was not particularly flavorful (he had the chorizo version). We may consider trying for dinner, but breakfast was overpriced ($12 a piece) and underwhelming.

I'm sure this is a great little place for the community where it is located; however, it is not IMHO worth a long drive. Lots of chicken dishes on the menu to start, with or in addition to pasta. The Gorgonzola meatloaf was tasty and the portion sizable. Service was affable and efficient, though not as well versed on the menu as one might desire. Perusing the refrigerator case before leaving made me wish I had eaten from there. Impressive selection of cookies and other dessert items. I'm guessing that they do a better breakfast, brunch and lunch, judging from those meals I've had at Sophia's on Market.

Great for lunch, better for dinner. I was really impressed with their dinner specials, appetizers, and scallops. Dessert is always a winner-they are amazing! We waited quite a awhile between courses on a busy night, but weren't in a rush so we didn't mind. Overall a very good dinner option in this area.

Very nice and clean inside! Went on a Sunday and was only offered the brunch menu which was a bit of a bummer but the salad I ordered was awesome! Berry salad? Can't remember the exact name but it had feta and sesame chicken breast, but add the poppy seed dressing and oh my!!! I also had the mini desserts which were 1$ each. Try the chocolate mouse in the chocolate cup. I'm a little sad at the total price...almost $20 for 1 person. But I'm interested in coming back to try out some other items on the menu.

We had to wait close to 10 minutes to order our drinks and she brought them back and still had to run off before taking our food order, despite the fact we had plenty of time to decide! By the time we did order, many of the tables had opened up. That being said, it should not have taken as long as it did to get our food. The food was just OK. The portion was sufficient, but with the high prices, I was expecting more. My bill was almost twice what it was the last time I went out for Brunch, and I even had a Cocktail that time. I often go out to eat in North Jersey and even New York, so I may be spoiled. But, if I am going to pay the same prices, especially in Central PA, not even Philly, I expect the same food and service quality.

The atmosphere is really nice here. My husband had some chicken dish that he did not like at all. I had salmon and it was ok. Not fabulous, not bad but just ok. The server was nice.

Fantastic! This is the second location to the Sophia's on Market, just opened around a month ago. Husband and I just tried it. We got the Cobb salad and the coconut chicken salad. I have a feeling everything here is delicious. Love how there are so many options and many of them look to be healthy. Everything is prepared to order which I love. The service was very good too. It is BYOB. A few days later, we stopped back to get desserts to take home for V-Day, the peanut butter cake/pie is unbelievably good. It is an individual, little cake with chocolate icing and peanuts on the outside. Only concern is the lack of parking, right now, there is only street parking, they may be adding a lot at some point. I am a fan, we will be back soon. This is a must try for everyone.

I'm sure this is a great little place for the community where it is located; however, it is not IMHO worth a long drive. Lots of chicken dishes on the menu to start, with or in addition to pasta. The Gorgonzola meatloaf was tasty and the portion sizable. Service was affable and efficient, though not as well versed on the menu as one might desire. Perusing the refrigerator case before leaving made me wish I had eaten from there. Impressive selection of cookies and other dessert items. I'm guessing that they do a better breakfast, brunch and lunch, judging from those meals I've had at Sophia's on Market.

Great for lunch, better for dinner. I was really impressed with their dinner specials, appetizers, and scallops. Dessert is always a winner-they are amazing! We waited quite a awhile between courses on a busy night, but weren't in a rush so we didn't mind. Overall a very good dinner option in this area.

Very nice and clean inside! Went on a Sunday and was only offered the brunch menu which was a bit of a bummer but the salad I ordered was awesome! Berry salad? Can't remember the exact name but it had feta and sesame chicken breast, but add the poppy seed dressing and oh my!!! I also had the mini desserts which were 1$ each. Try the chocolate mouse in the chocolate cup. I'm a little sad at the total price...almost $20 for 1 person. But I'm interested in coming back to try out some other items on the menu.

Great for most items. Disappointed though that on a Saturday evening prior to the 6 pm golden dinner hour they run out of their specials for the evening. (shephards pie) They should offer their signature sandwiches for dinner time too.

I read about the tree lighting at Walden and decided to take a stroll with my children. So happy I did. Walden is a little slice of heaven. And Sophia's is the perfect place for a lovely winter dinner while enjoying an evening out with family. The prices were a tad higher than what I expected. But the food was good, not spectacular.

Have been here twice. The first time we dined indoors. I was confused by the baked goods sitting around packaged for carryout, the walk-up counter and blackboard menu that they use at lunchtime. Once seated and with a menu in my hand, I found a nice variety of gourmet dishes at a reasonable price. Our second visit we dined outdoors. The planned community of Walden is not fully populated so the outdoor dining is still very quiet without a lot of cars going by. I had the Braised Short Rib ravioli special, which was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Again, everyone at my table enjoyed their meals and found their prices to be reasonable. The server assumed that one check was okay, which caused a bit of a scramble when it was time to pay. They cannot accommodate a party larger than four for outdoor seating, but that doesn't stop them from trying, which seems foolish: I hated to see large parties crammed onto tiny four-tops, but I supposed that's between Sophia and those customers. Someone commented on the small portion sizes: We found the portion sizes to be adequate, but we did not have leftovers. I would not like to see the portion size to go bigger, for that would be a waste and I'm sure the cost of that waste would be passed along to the diners. Terrific flavors, moderate prices, pleasant atmosphere and good service should read as a recipe for success!

Tried this place for the first time, and was not particularly impressed. We went for breakfast, as we saw they had different varieties of Eggs Benedict on the menu. We each ordered a different type, and both were disappointed. I had the classic, and my eggs were overcooked, the sauce was bland, and the potatoes were warm...not hot. My husbands sauce was not particularly flavorful (he had the chorizo version). We may consider trying for dinner, but breakfast was overpriced ($12 a piece) and underwhelming.

I stopped in to this location for lunch on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised. The color scheme is warm and inviting. I ordered the grilled turkey mozzarella sandwich. It had tender slices of turkey, large pieces of creamy mozzarella, pesto mayo, sprouts & roasted red pepper on grilled ciabatta. It was heaven on a bun! I got the red pasta salad as my side. The salad had a nice, light marinara sauce with diced red onion & bell peppers. My friend got the potato salad, which was also made in house and so good! We stayed from 2-430 and no one rushed us. I'd like to go back for dinner sometime. It's byob, too.
