I fail to understand the great reviews?? Maybe its because it makes the reviewers feel that they are great??? I digress..... Small little hole in the wall type place in Mechanicsburg. Went three times for breakfast just to make sure. I really was hoping this would be the breakfast spot. Nah, not so much. Service. Hit and miss. Friendly, but I guess I don't like the teeny boppers who cant pay attention and cant answer a simple question about the menu. Deduct. Food. Nothing great in my opinion, just standard fare. Blah blah blah. Coffee-no good. I really wanted to like you Diener's, but I'd rather have breakfast at Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel. Its tastier.

My husband and I tried Diener's for the first time this morning for breakfast. This is another cute little restaurant in town that has gone unnoticed. I believe they only serve breakfast and lunch, so they have limited hours. There was a line upon walking in, however, we were seated fairly quickly (within 2 minutes.) They serve everything breakfast (eggs, hashbrowns, flavored pancakes and waffles w/ assorted toppings, etc) I got the #3 breakfast special which was scrambled eggs, hash browns, cubes of tasty ham, green peppers, and onions with 4 pieces of rye toast on the side. It was DELICIOUS. Huge portions for the price. I usually finish my breakfast at most diners, but I just couldn't do it here. Well worth the try, and will be back again. :)

Came for breakfast this morning. Prices are very reasonable. I had the Crab Benedict. Eggs were perfectly poached and muffin had a nice crunch. It was good, but I'm not an Old Bay fan, which was mixed in with the crabmeat and sprinkled on top. Hubby had typical eggs sunny side up and sausage links. We would come back.

Decent breakfast food and average service. It was freezing out, but my mom, brother and I decided to venture out anyhow for a good breakfast on a Friday morning. We were promptly seated towards the front of the establishment, unfortunately very close to the drafty door. The place seemed to be a decent size. Parking wasn't a problem since it was about 9 am on a weekday, but I would imagine it could get difficult when busy. I ordered the Knothole Eggs with bacon. Growing up we called them eggs in a basket. Basically, it is a slice of toast with a hole cut in the middle with an over-easy egg cooked within it. You normally butter both sides of the bread so it gets that delicious crispy effect when cooked on a griddle. Also, it can be more difficult to make sure the whites are cooked this way. I was impressed by how well they came out. There was a little bit of under-cooked egg whites, but not too bad, the yolk was nice and runny, just how I like it, and I love that they used thick texas toast. The bacon was thick and crispy. My brother ordered the Eggs Benedict which were standard. The poached egg was cooked well (appropriately runny), I think the meat was ham rather than Canadian bacon, but still good, and the hollandaise was creamy and well balanced. Personally, I prefer a more lemony/tart taste to my hollandaise so it wasn't my favorite, but not bad. My mother ordered the Pumpkin Walnut Pancakes which were good, but had a strong flavor we could not place; it may have been cardamon. If you're a fan of pumpkin, you would probably like these though. Overall, the place was pretty standard for breakfast with a few twists on some classics. The cinnamon bun french toast also sounded pretty good. They had a nice variety: omelets, pancakes, french toast, etc. The prices were about average ($9 for eggs benedict) and there were no complaints about the service. Our woman was fairly attentive when it came to the coffee. A random little perk were their cute coke drinking glasses. If you're in the mood for a good sit down breakfast, this is a decent place.

Really liked this place. I had eggs and pancakes. Everything served perfect. Really cool, old time dining room. Like things have stood still for fifty years. Total throwback. Very good service. Enjoyed this place and will be back.

We got here at just the right time. It gets pretty busy and the restaurant is small, but we beat the crowd by only waiting 15mins. The food was delicious and service was very nice and friendly. I had the Western Omelette and my husband had the meat lovers omelette. We both loved it! We will definitely come here again.

Nice little place with a good breakfast. I'm full. The wife got carrots in her omlet which we thought was odd. I had the corned beef hash with eggs. Excellent. Both large portions.

A Mechanicsburg establishment this place is a go to for brunch. I normally get the mexican omelet filled with peppers, jack cheese and jalapenos or one of the specials. My eggs are always cooked properly. The portion sizes are large and the prices are low. Its a good place to go for a fast, tasty, breakfast when you don't feel like cooking. They are active in the community and many of the students get their first jobs here. My only quibble is the coffee is poor.

Since we're leasing space down the street for a business of ours, we thought we'd check out the neighborhood. Diener's was a pleasant surprise! We will definitely return for a breakfast or lunch - you can't do breakfast out much better than Diener's...

BIG (delicious) breakfast + little price = my new go-to place when I'm in town for meetings! Lovely server who knew everyone's name as they came in the door (not mine as it was my first time but she was no less friendly to me!). I got two scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, toast and juice for seven bucks.

Best breakfast ever. I had a spicy mexican omelet and wife had crab meat on eggs Benedict. Every time I go to Diener's it is awesome!

I am so Blessed to have a business near Diener's. I can get the very best Breakfast and be satisfied for the day. I love the Pic's of Oldtime Mechanicsburg throughout the restaurant. Food is great & service is friendly!

Their lima beans are unreal. Definitely some of the best food I've ever had anywhere, hands down. Fantastic buffet!

The service is extremely quick and friendly. The food tastes great and you get alot of it for an extremely low price. I will have a hard time passing by this place whenever I'm in Mechanicsburg.

Great place all around. Good service. Family owned and the care shows. Try the knot hole eggs. No better breakfast place in PA.

This is my favorite place to get breakfast. It's very reasonably priced and the wait staff is awesome. They get your food out fast and it's DELICIOUS. Get there early, though because it fills up fast.

Diener's is one of our favorite places to grab a delicious breakfast in Central PA. We love the old fashioned, neighborhood atmosphere that sets it apart from chain establishments. Their food is very good and the prices are very reasonable (especially with the amount of food that you are served). We particularly enjoy the Monte Cristo, the Cadillac of breakfast sandwiches. In the nice weather, you can enjoy your food outside on the back patio. And, perhaps most importantly, they brew a strong cup o' joe!

Great local spot to grab a cheap, quick, large, and tasty breakfast. Staff was friendly and atmosphere was nice. Food was better than the restaurant: our table was right under the ac unit which was a little inconvenient and the light bulb on the table lamp was exposed. But all in all a place my wife and I would return to.

Strawberry stuffed French toast was awesome. Server recommended it as today's special. Wife's omelet --tomato spinach and cheese was huge and apparently very good as well as there was nothing left. Love this place. Always Something new every week.

Best. Pancakes. Ever. We were looking for a place for brunch and yelp directed us here. If anyone on this page has a bad review, they're just a pessimistic person that never likes anything ever. This is quality stuff here, people...

Very cute place with a friendly staff. We were looking for a "good" place to eat. There lies the issue-"good" to me and you are different. If you like the everyday HO hum pancakes, egg dishes, etc. come here. If you are looking for the little things that make a place GREAT, like 100% maple syrup, sprouted grain bread, and locally sourced veggies and meat this is not the place.

Absolutely best place in Mechanicsburg for breakfast or lunch. Great local flavor, warm friendly service, and wonderful nostalgic accents all around. Great pancakes and the Cinnamon Bun French Toast is just awesome! Get there early on Sundays as the after church breakfast crowd can create 45-60 minute waits routinely.

Great breakfast... Haven't had anything that's been less than very good. Some of the best French toast I've ever had. The servers can get stretched a bit thin at times... Coffee cup may sit empty for a minute or two, but they do a good job otherwise. Cool place - very old school.

We stopped for breakfast based upon the reviews. Well, it was a great choice. We really enjoyed the look, atmosphere and the food. The wait staff was great, the food amazing, and who would think to use High School yearbooks as part of the decor. Bravo! I had the peach and blueberry granola pancakes...great flavors from the very fresh fruit and the pancake was perfectly cooked. My wife tried the cinnamon roll french toast. A whole cinnamon roll, cut in half, dredged in egg and perfectly grilled with the warm glaze adding a touch of sweetness...no syrup needed! Both came with bacon, and the french toast had a small fruit salad. Coffee was very good and the price was perfect (~$16.50 for the whole meal).

This is a great place for brunch! I love the location and the food is delicious! It is an old fashioned country style restaurant nestled in the heart of Mechanicsburg. The staff is friendly and accommodating.

Best breakfast hands down. The food is amazing. Try the Mexican omelet, #2, or any of the pancake specials!

A couple girls I work with recommend this place for breakfast so I thought would give it a try. Signage is poor. Parking is on street. Had to make a couple laps. The restaurant right beside it "colonial house"actually had someone in there parking lot making sure you didn't use there parking.lol Cozy, cute. I had a party of 6 but would not recommend this place for larger parties. It accommodates party's of 2-4 nicely. Service was very friendly. Food was yummy! Overall 5 stars! I'll be back.

Initial impression wasn't great. Place looked homey, warm and inviting but we stood by the counter the better part of 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Looking at the list there were 3-4 names ahead of ours so they were full but 4 servers walked by without eye contact, a hello, or a "just a minute." May be I am particular but I Believe good service starts at the door. We were seated pretty quickly and our server was nice and explained the specials so maybe a weak moment. Really love the decor and Coke glasses for the water. Opted out of the coffee since so many other reviews have warned against. My lovely wife ordered ordered the Cinnamon Bun French Toast and I got the #5 (corned beef hash and eggs). Both were delivered VERY fast and looked amazing. Sausage and French Toast were terrific. 5 stars and would get again. Hash and eggs were great too. Best i have had in the 4-5 other diners Ive been to in the area. Prices were great, overall service great. Abby (who was serving solo for the first time) did an outstanding job! I will request her section in the future. Kudo's Diener's. Great job.

Stopped here Sunday AM for breakfast, neat little spot. It was quite busy, had a 30 minute wait, but everybody was friendly and welcoming. The food was great, had an omelet loaded with ham and cheese, and a side of sausage links...that sausage was awesome, big fat links, not the little ones you find at the chains!! My wife and daughter had the Philly scramble and loved it. The service was great even though it was busy she tried to make sure we had what we wanted. Would make a return trip if we were in the area.

My boyfriend and I came here for breakfast after seeing the good reviews here on yelp. There's street parking and a good amount of spaces available when we arrived around 11:45 on a Saturday. When we walked in, we appreciated the homey feel- something a lot of Philadelphia (where we live) restaurants lack. It's a pretty small space- a few 2-person booths, a few booths for 4, 3 or 4 tables for 4 and a 10-person (maybe) counter. The hostess was holding a newborn baby when we walked in... A little strange I think?? But she told us it would be about a 10 minute wait for 2 so we opted for the counter. Our waitress wasn't friendly in the least bit. She didn't say hello, didn't once ask us how our food was and barely even looked at us when we were sitting there. She didn't even tell us her name but I think I overheard a waitress call her Tessa. Our food wasn't anything special. I had 2 blueberry pancakes which we're standard and 2 scrambled egg whites that came out lukewarm. My boyfriend had 2 chocolate chip pancakes and 2 eggs over easy which he said were good but nothing special. Overall, id say this is just your standard breakfast place that could've been a lot better had we had good service.

My favorite breakfast place in the area. Great coffee, Cinnamon bun French toast, breakfast sandwich, and the sausages are huge! Highly recommend it! Only issue is you might have to wait for a seat on the weekends. But it's worth the wait!

Not impressed. Typical dinerish food. Toast was good. Pancake undercooked and caked in sugar. Service was nothing special.

I recently traveled to the Mechanicsburg area for business, and this was the first place that I had the opportunity to eat at. Actually, to be honest, I was looking for Sophia's on Market, but couldn't find it and parked near Diener's instead. I was very pleased with my meal. Food: We ordered the pumpkin-walnut pancakes, eggs in a basket (Knothole eggs), and eggs Benedict. The food was good. My eggs Benedict was executed perfectly. The egg was poached perfectly (whites fully cooked, yolk golden and runny); the ham/Canadian bacon was cooked perfectly (just a little bit crispy and lightly browned on the outside); the muffin was crispy, golden, and tender; and lastly, the hollandaise was texturally perfect, with nice flavor. Like I said, executed perfectly. For me though, I would have liked a little more lemon in the hollandaise. (Benedict 4 / 5) The pancakes were good, but did have an overwhelming flavor of 'something' in there that threw-off the balance of the entire dish. This was a little bit of a shame (3 / 5) The Knothole Eggs I did not try, so I cannot comment on them, but I am a real stickler for ensuring that the whites of eggs are totally cooked. It just grosses me out when they are not. Maybe that is a personal preference, but it turns-my-stomach a bit. For that reason: Food: 3 / 5 Service: For a diner-like establishment, I found the service to be very friendly, efficient, and expedient. The service was prompt, despite how busy it was. It exceeded my expectation for a restaurant of this nature, given how busy it was. Service: 4 / 5 Atmosphere: It was cold out when we went -- frigidly cold. The restaurant was extremely drafty, and despite being 3 tables from the door, we were regularly dosed with a low, freezing breeze. This made the dining experience a little unpleasant. Despite that though, the restaurant is in an old building that is cozy and has character. It was very clean, and was a place I could see myself coming back to. Lastly, it felt home-y and welcoming. Atmosphere: 4 / 5 Price: The prices were consistent with the quality that I received, and what I expected from this establishment. Price: 3 / 5 Final Thoughts: I enjoyed the meal that I had while I was here, and I appreciate the fact that they put on their menu '1 refill only' on items like coffee and soda. I absolutely loathe it when restaurants to not make this known, and you order two refills only to find out that they charged you full price for all of them. That leaves such a sour taste in my mouth that I never return to those types of restaurants because it feels like a scam. Anyway, I digress. For a solid breakfast with a friendly atmosphere, I can definitely recommend Diener's.

OK, but not great. The Crab Benedict was over seasoned, completely overwhelming the Hollandaise. The shredded hashbrowns were mediocre. Service was fantastic. Prices are reasonable. This was my second visit; I might go back, but I've had meals just as good at other diners in the area.
