We love the fresh baked pastries, raspberry or blueberry cheese Danish, peaches and cream filled doughnuts, lemon sponge pie are wonderful! You must try their long johns, offered in vanilla, chocolate, maple and peanut butter fresh fresh fresh! Old world recipe for over 60 years now! Have breakfast at the restaurant exit door, then pick up your pastries. A "must do" when in the Lancaster area!

These donuts are pretty decent. I like the long john's here, the peanut butter ones are delicious. Some of the best donuts in Lancaster. The selection is limited if you go in the afternoon.

Achenbach's pastries are epic! I was born and raised on the best pastries in the world. As my career took me other places in the last thirty years, they were a phone call and delivery away. My co workers as well as my pastor were partial to the Long Johns and shoo fly pie! It is a Leola landmark and a must see! Best news of all, I will be moving back soon. Get ready for a large order.

If you come to Lancaster County, you must stop at Auchenbach's! I started eating their delicious Long Johns about 25 years ago. Although I no longer live in Lancaster, I make sure I stop by every time I'm in town to visit family. DELICIOUS!!!!!

This is definitely a landmark out in Leola, but I'm not completely sold on them. I've had numerous types of the doughnuts, muffins and long johns since I work with people who bring them in about once a week. The cake doughnuts that are rolled in cinnamon sugar are excellent - very soft and not overly sweet. The rest of the items I've had were either topped or stuffed with way too much frosting/filling. I usually end up scrapping at least half of it off. Most of the staff is nice, but there is a rather grumpy elderly lady that is well known in our office for her demeanor. Overall, this isn't a bad place for treats.

Three Words: Peanut Butter Longjohns! This place is amazing! And well worth a drive from ANYWHERE! I got a baker's dozen of their fresh doughnuts, including both the chocolate and peanut butter longjohns. Both were amazing, but the peanut butter longjohns are to die for! Their homemade custard is fluffy and light, which makes for an incredible mouthfeel. Finally, the Pecan Sticky Buns are AMAZING! My mother, who spent a fair amount of time in the area as a child, was ecstatic! She said they were exactly like the ones she used to have as a kid! The prices are reasonable and the baked goods sublime! What more can you ask for?!

My wife and I stopped by to check out the muffins. I was immedietly drawn to the plate size cheese, and blueberry dainishes. Simply you won't want to buy another day old, factory made donut. It might be a little bit of a drive, and a little bit more $, but you won't be dissapointed.

Achenbach's is amazing! Delicious bakery items, reasonable / cheap prices. Really doesn't get better than this! As others have echoed, the long johns are their specialty. It's the main reason I trek up to Bareville. They also have long john cakes, where the long johns are iced together and decorated like a cake... it's fantastic and unique. What more could you want? I think there's a little cafe adjoining the bakery. I've never eaten there, but it looks cute =) If you're in the area, definitely stop by!

Oh man, this bakery has some amazing stuff. I grew up on the vanilla ring, the long johns. If you are nearby, you need to stop by this little shop and taste how good they are. Sticky buns with raisins also amazing. My dad owned a market stand in the 70s and sold Achenbach's Pastries. The baked goods they make here are unique and something you can't just find anywhere.

I agree with Shane...If you go here, get a peanut butter long john (or a dozen). They are soooo gooood !!! But one of the main reasons I go to Auchenbach's is for a seasonal baked good; Black raspberry pie (No, not blackberry!). They sell these freshly baked pies when black raspberries are in season. The season is from the end of June to the middle-end of July. These heavenly pies come in 5",8", and 10" sizes. They are so good that I sometimes go overboard and eat a lot of this limited treat. I know I do this because in a couple weeks I will get a craving but it is too late; black raspberries are out of season! Unlike pig stomach, scrapple, or shoo-fly pie, I think black raspbery pie is the most unappreciated AND underrated of the Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish foods. 2011 season (June 27-July 23) Get one before they are gone !!!
