Over the last 3 years my family, friends and I have had roughly 12 meals there among us all. Of those 11 were very enjoyable and only one unsatisfactory.A couple were foodie level. Service is professional and the venue is attractive as it is an old train station. Where it is unique is its downstairs cigar bar, which features a wide selection of quality cigars and spirits including a nice selection of single malts. The cigar lounge with its couches, high backed chairs and pool table is a great place to top off an evening.

Found this place on a late Sunday afternoon after a day of Kayaking on nearby Keystone Lake. Our waitress, Laurie, was engaging and witty, and very responsive. The manager 'Mike' came to our table to chat. We asked about the history of the place and the owner came out to give us the tour. This place has an atmosphere unlike any other place we've seen. Clean, large, and somewhat imposing with all type of train and model trains throughout, Almost as if the Spaghetti Warehouse merged with the Grand Concourse (in Pittsburgh) in a positive manner. Menu had many selections and the portion sizes were fine. The artichokes romano appetizer was amazing and the soups were tasty with the right amount. salt. (Many soups are way too salty). Our party of three left discussing returning as a party of six with our wives.

I enjoyed a great New Years Eve dinner with my Fiancé and family and everything was great. Wonderful wine, amazing rack of lamb, surf and turf was perfect, with a great filet and rack of lamb. After dinner, we headed downstairs to Joey D's Cigar bar for great cigars, after dinner drinks, champagne, and live music. Disalvo's is a great place for dinner, And if you want the best experience, check out Prima Clase for a old school fine dining experience. Good food, and good cigars, mean a good time.

I've been for both lunch and dinner. When it's busy and when it isn't. The best I can say is. . .it's OK. . .but just ok. I've ordered seafood and received it terribly overcooked. I ordered a dish with risotto and it was actually crunchy, yep. . .crunchy. Wedding soup tasted as if it came from a can. Salad contained wilted greens. When I sent them back the waitress acted as if i had committed a felony and became short with me. It does have a nice atmosphere as it is in the old Latrobe train station and the dining room has some toy trains running around. But, don't let the decor fool you. . the food is marginal at best.

6 stars! Mike is the most patient coordinator that can possibly exist. I had several, sometimes awkward, last-minute & changing requests and he just--BOOM--done, made them happen; place was better than envisioned at arrival. He also let us do whatever we wanted, including bringing our own alcohol, for which he had his staff beautifully set up a table with a punch bowl, glasses, decor. I lost balloons in their super high ceilings, and he wasn't even mad ;) His staff happily & eagerly brought all of the bride's [heavy] gifts to her car--and it was freezing! I am in love. The food was fire, as well. Oh boy! HAVE ANY EVENT HERE YOU CAN, in summation.

This place is really overprice. I had the gnocchi and it was really starchy and cheesy. My husband and father in law had the shrimp. They loved the shrimp but they hated the risotto. It was really cheesy. My mother in law had the ravioli and she was the only one who loved her entire dish . We spent 123 dollars without tip and we didn't have drinks or desert . It's just really expensive for the quality of the food. Definitely not coming back

I recently had my wedding reception at Disalvos. It was beyond Perfect !!!!!! Mike (our wedding coordinator) listened to every detail I ever told him and made the planning process a lot easier than doing it alone. The food was incredible and the staff was friendly and efficient. Disalvos is so unique- that's one reason I loved it so much. Not your typical catering hall. We had our after party downstairs in the Cigar Bar and that took our reception to the next level. The night was perfect - Hands down - best wedding reception ever!!!!! Thank you Mike - Disalvos and Joey D!

I went to a private event at Disalvo's earlier this month, and we had a great time! The restaurant itself is interesting and worth a visit for the architecture. It's inside an old train station, full of beautiful brick, and there's a train car inside the restaurant itself. There's an interesting tunnel, and bars both upstairs and downstairs. Food quality always suffers a bit in the buffet banquet setting, but overall I was very impressed with what we had at Disalvo's. Our dinner included salad, bowtie pasta with pesto, eggplant parmesan, roast chicken, carved roast beef, and chocolate mousse cake. Everything was very good-- I'd definitely go back to try the regular menu. The wine and beer that came with our buffet wasn't fantastic, but wasn't bad, and the service was excellent. It's hard to judge a place when you're not there for a regular meal, but I'd based on this experience, I'd happily make a repeat visit.

We had dinner here this past Sunday. As soon as you walk through the door you are mediately assaulted by the fumes from the cigar bar that is downstairs. The dining room is an escape from most of the smell of the cigar smoke. The food was delicious but I don't think I'll ever go back.

Actually 4 1/2 stars! I was visiting friends in Greensburg, and they insisted that we dine here. So glad we did. The building is an old train station. If you're lucky, a train will run by while you're dining. (Not counting the toy train that circles the dining room. :-) ) So, the place itself would get five stars for atmosphere. The waitstaff is friendly and efficient. And quite entertaining to boot. We had several good laughs with our waitress. Five stars for the waitstaff. We started with the tomato brushetta for an appetizer. Very good. I had an Asian tuna salad (main course salad) which was quite good too. I finished the whole thing and used some of the delicious bread to mop up the dressing. My dining companions had mahi mahi, pork chop, and eggplant. (I sampled the red sauce on the eggplant, and it was some of the best I've tasted -- very tomato-y.) They all got dinner salads with the meal and agreed that they were the best salads. Accompanying veggies and rice were tasty as well. And we all had big portions. (I was the only one to finish mine -- the others got boxes to go.) Five stars for the food. We were all very pleased with our food. The friends who live in Greensburg frequent this place often, and I can see why. I will definitely go back the next time I visit them. The only downside was the dessert. We ordered creme brulee and it was just okay. Not bad, mind you, but not as good as the rest of the meal. Three stars for the creme brulee. (Maybe we should have tried some other desserts, too.) Prices are just a tad on the high side, but worth it for the quality and quantity. When you go, check out the bottom floor -- it's a cigar lounge/bar/poolroom. (I don't smoke, drink, or play pool, but it was an interesting space to see.) Recommended.

My husband and I have been here twice, once for my company Christmas party a few years ago and again on Friday. First let me say that the decor is absolutely charming. I wish I had more nice things to say of this venue since its so close to home but I just don't. I recall our food at the Christmas party was unimpressive at best and in edible at worst. We decided to give the place another shot last week since my daughter had a no-parents-allowed Halloween function across the street, giving my husband and I an hour and a half of free time. First of all-getting in from the back, was rather complicated since the sign on the door directs diners to the kitchen entrance. We did get in-through the cigar bar. The bartender seated us in the dining room directly in front of the wine cabinet despite many other options. About 10 minutes later our waitress came for our drink orders. I asked if it would be possible to try one of the wines (sold by the glass) before I ordered it. She said they couldn't do that, but recommended the wine I was looking at. As she was serving me the $9 glass of wine that I couldn't drink, the owner was allowing an entire table to sample wine! About 45 minutes after we were seated we got our mussels. The dish was good, unexpectedly spicy. It would have been great if we had something other than 4 tiny blackened toasts to dip in the sauce. Our salads were ok, mine had a bit of rotten lettuce in it. We finally got our dinners, I had the saltimbocca which was very good, served with a side of penne with marinara. We ordered a piece of tiramisu to go when we got our dinners since we only had about 30 minutes before we had to pick our daughter up. About ten after 8 our waitress swung past with drinks for a private party and asked how our dinners were and I said they were great, and that we needed boxes and the check because we needed to pick our daughter up at 8:30. She looked a little bothered that we actually needed something and moved on. My husband ended up leaving to pick our daughter up since there was no sign of our waitress. She didn't get back to the table until 8:40, empty handed, to apologize, saying that she got pulled into drinks and speeches? I am assuming that is where she was all evening since she had no other tables, took forever to get our food out and only stopped at our table once other than to serve our food. When we finally got home I saw that the tiramisu was a one inch wide piece barely what I would consider one serving. I won't go back. If you're going to charge those prices you need more than ambiance to justify it.

My sister got married at this location last weekend. It was an amazing experience over all. Not only was the wait staff attentive and professionally dressed they were very friendly and personable. Mike and the rest of the staff paid careful attention to detail and set up the space exactly how my sister wanted it. The food was delicious and served professionally. We took beautiful pictures outside which will be lifelong keepsakes. Upon going back the next morning to pick up the center pieces, cookies, etc. we found everything neatly packed up and waiting for us at an enterence that was easy for us to load up. This was a great location and environment for a wonderful wedding. I wish we could do it all over again!

Me and my betrothed Jonathan D. headed to DiSalvo's this past Sunday to visit with Mike and discuss the possibility of using DiSalvo's as a wedding reception venue next year. We arrived very early and decided to engage in a senior citizen's 4pm dinner :-) We sat in the bar and watched the Steelers game amongst the train paraphernalia. It was cold in the bar, but my heart was warmed by the atmosphere, the service and the food. Let me tell you something about this food. WOW. I wasn't expecting to be blown away by the food. I was into the trains. But as I dined on a delectable House Salad including fresh spring mix, flavorful walnuts and bleu cheese and a warm loaf of homemade bread; followed by an entrée of Pistachio-encrusted Mahi Mahi on a bed of grilled brussel sprouts, butternut squash and a surprisingly yet perfect raspberry glaze of some sort, I fell head over heels in love with DiSalvo's. For the two of us, our bill came in at $50 - a reasonable sum for such an extraordinary meal. Whether or not DiSalvo's is our reception destination, I'll be back again. This time I'll arrive by train in style. $15 from Pittsburgh to Latrobe. Who knew?!

My husband and I ate at DiSalvo's for the first time tonight. Their main menu is fairly expensive, at least for what we're used to. I'm sure compared to other restaurants of this class, it's pretty normal. We sat in the dining area, but were able to order from the bar menu which was nice. They have a good selection of beer; we both got Smithwick's and it was fairly priced. For dinner we each ordered a half house salad which is perfect just the way it is described on the menu and it's very fresh. My husband got a burger cooked to perfection and I had the lobster ravioli. The sauce was very delicious, but a little heavy. I'm glad I ordered the smaller portion. Our server was very friendly and we were served in a very timely manner. We'll definitely be going back. PS. There is a cigar bar off the bar that you can smell if you're in the bar. We could not smell it in the dining area. I rather enjoy the smell of cigars, but it might not be for everyone.

I was expecting a beautiful, fancy, and romantic dinner with my husband and our good friends, and that is exactly what I got! This place is gorgeous, and if you like trains, you'll love it even more. It's inside an old train station that is UNDER the tracks. You can actually hear the Amtrak trains passing overhead as you eat. So cool! Our server was really fun as well. He prided himself on getting to know his guest's preferences throughout the meal, trying to guess which dessert we would all get, and telling me what wine I like. He was largely correct on most things too! He guessed 3 out of 4 of the desserts orders correctly. I had to order something different from what he guessed (mostly just to spite him. muahaha). But we'll get to dessert later. We started with our appetizer, and we decided on the Crab Cake. Crab cakes usually freak me out because they remind me of canned cat food. But they taste so freaking delicious! This one was exceptionally good. It was served with a tasty mustard aioli which complimented it quite well. Sorry I couldn't get a picture of that, we scarfed it down almost immediately. We also tasted a bit of Calamari that our friends got. I've had calamari a lot of places, but this was really the best tasting calamari I've ever had outside of beach vacations. Inside its crispy fried coating was smooth and succulent and NOT chewy baby squid. Served with a very complimentary basil aioli. They like aioli around here. It was so difficult to choose an entree. So much of the menu looked appetizing. Finally I decided on Saltimbocca, simply because I'd never had or heard of it before. Whoo was it a good choice! Your choice of chicken or veal stuffed with scaloppini, prosciutto, provolone & sage in a sherry wine mushroom sauce. I opted for chicken, and shortly it arrived, 2 massive stuffed chicken breasts AND a big bowl of penne pasta that automatically comes with it. I was a bit disappointed because the scaloppini did not have a very large presence. But everything else kind of made up for it. The chicken had a thick, cheesy, breading which tasted excellent with the sherry mushroom sauce, and everything tasted great together. Occasionally I got a big bite of sage leaf, which was a bit overpowering, but that's a minor flaw. I had a bite of Tyler's Mahi Mahi, which was pistachio crusted and came with a wild berry and hot pepper glaze. I'm not a big fan of fish, but it was tasty. Dessert next, hubby got a chessecake I was jealous of. It was perfect. But I had never had tiramisu before, and I had decided that today was the day of trying new things. And guess what, Tiramisu is awesome! Not only awesome, but beautiful as well. (See photo below.) Our gracious host then gives us a brief tour of the place, and we got to go inside the fancy "Prima Classe" train car. He also really talked up the local entertainment Disalvo's provides. If we lived closer, I'm sure we would be regulars at this place. It's fantastic.

Great food. Awesome service. You won't find better Itialian food in town. You can sit in an old train car. You may even see Arnold Palmer at the table next to you.

An old train station converted into a restaurant? Yes, please. This is a very cool space and the food is pretty good. Check out Joey D's lounge if you like to smoke cigars.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
