Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. Avoid Soup bowls and opt for cups instead at Village Inn.

We have been here a handful of times, and somehow the dining room gets louder with each visit. There are no soft surfaces anywhere in the dining room to absorb sound. This is unfortunate because the food and service are very good. Food and service rate 4 stars. Atmosphere rates 2 stars.

Amazing Italian food! Really authentic and inexpensive! Try the calamari salad and cavatelli!

Didn't expect such a. good meal at peddlers villAge. Very nice decor. It was not crowded for lunch so the noise level was not bad. Waiter was very cute with his authentic Italian accent. We met friends there and stayed for 2 hours and they were very attentive the entire time. Tried 2 soups which were excellent but not really hot enough. Didn't matter. They were great. Calamari appetizer should be passed on. Tasted like it went from the freezer to the fryer. Main dishes. Tuna was done perfectly. Eggplant pram without cheese on request was perfect as was the angel hair. Veal saltemboca was great. THe fourth dish was good as well, just can't remember it. No complaints. Cheesecake was different and delicious. Tiramisu was recommended and not to be missed. Great location just outside the main part of peddlars village. Orvis, coach and Nine West are right there. Definitely a keeper. Recommend highly. No alcohol.

Always a great meal. Relaxed atmosphere and very good food. I let Sal, the owner, surprise us with appetizers and are always pleased. Worth the trip to Lahaska with my wife (even if I have to go shopping first.)

This is an above average Italian restaurant with good service and a little something for everyone. DW will have me drive from Trenton to Lahaska just to get pasta with red sauce. I had the arrabiata last night and the pasta was cooked perfectly while the sauce had the right kick and definitely featured fresh ingredients. Fish always seems like a good choice here too. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the bolognese, which was rather bland. The Sicilian Orange Salad is good too.

My boyfriend and I dined here for restaurant week and had a great experience. First I'd like to say that I'm glad this is a BYOB, we brought our own bottle of pinot grigio and it went fairly quickly. I almost wish they offered to bring an ice bucket to keep it cold for us, we didn't ask. Next, the food was extremely tasty. Bread was homemade and served warm. For my self I ordered the fried calamari with marinara sauce... Perfect portion and best marinara sauce I've ever had! I then had the arugala salad, lightly dressed, also perfect. Then I had ravioli and shrimp in a rose sauce for my entrée, didn't think the shrimp was seasoned but the ravioli was cooked well, good dish. I ordered the tiramisu for dessert and had to take it home, can't wait to try it! My boyfriend had has he fried mozzarella, again delicious because of that sauce and fresh ingredients, ceasar salad (I'm not a fan) but he liked, and fusilli pasta (string beans as he called it), pretty good, and he did had room for the canolli and loved it. The only other downside beside no ice bucket for my wine was the size of the room, we had a reservation in advance and ended up getting seated in the middle of the restaurant where we could very well hear our loud neighbors. We would return, and request to have a window seat next time.

I find it interesting that some reviews for Villaggio are hit or miss on this site. Since they opened about 8 years ago, we've eaten at the restaurant at least a dozen times. One time on Christmas Eve, for a party of 15 of us for their 7 Fishes feast. All my Italian relatives attended, including my 95 year old grandmother, who was the absolute best cook in the world - Villaggio got awesome reviews across the board, including from Grandma. We've also ordered takeout on several occasions, and had them cater a family Christmas party at our house. Not once did we have anything but delicious, extremely well-prepared food, and friendly, accommodating service. I can say this - compared to anything else you find in this area, they have the best Italian food around. And for the most part, it appears to be cooked by real Italians from Naples who know what they're doing. We are big fans and hope to see them continue with success.

Bacchanalia! Went here with friends on Saturday night and it was an utterly bizarre experience -- and not in a good way. First, they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. Since there were only four of us, we called before leaving the house (it was around 7:15) and were told there was an hour wait, but they'd put our name on "the list." We waited a while, then headed over there, arriving around 8:00. We were told there was one table of four ahead of us. We ended up being seated at 9:00 -- an hour and 45 minutes after we were told an hour wait. With that kind of business, you'd assume the food must be spectacular, right? Well, think again. While I will admit, it's a cut above most of the red-sauce joints in the area, that's a pretty low bar to clear. We split a caesar salad for two and an arugala salad for two ($16 each) and then ordered one chicken parm, one chicken pulcinella, one chicken portofino and a gamberi arrabbiata. All were fine, but nothing spectacular. At around $20/entree the cost was a bit high for the quality, but the portions were large, so we'll call it a wash. The best course was by far the desserts, although by the time we'd finished our meal, they were out of at least half of the items on the menu. But still, with a number of unique gelato-based desserts and some nice classics, the meal ended on a high note. If it were just a matter of the food, I'd probably be nice and give them that third star, but the atmosphere was utterly absurd. First of all this is a big, cavernous place with high ceilings and nothing to soak up noise, so under the best of circumstances, conversation would be a challenge. But on this incredibly busy night, it was impossible. Part of that was due to the number of people who were taking full advantage of the BYOB policy and were totally trashed -- I mean loudly cursing one another out, THROWING FOOD, fall-down as they tried to stand, trashed. I've never seen such chaos in what purports to be a "fine dining establishment" before, and from the studied avoidance of the staff, it was clear this was something they put up with regularly. That nothing was done to keep people in check was in keeping with the totally inept management overall. I mentioned that were kept waiting for far longer then they'd "predicted" with no apology or even acknowledgement. We were kept standing in a claustrophobic lobby with the other chattel, some of whom were experienced enough to ask for wine glasses so they could begin catching up with the rest of the clientele. The only advantage of waiting so long was that the the drunks began to clear out around the time we received out entrees. Unfortunately, that was the signal for the staff to begin cleaning the dining room. Seriously, they were sweeping floors, spraying ammonia-based cleaners on the tables, chucking trash into rolling cans all around us as we tried to finally enjoy our meals. From the arrogant maitre d' who appeared to be seating his buddies as the came in, without consulting the sacred list to the mousey greeter (I refuse to give her the credit of calling her a hostess) who was totally overwhelmed and kept abandoning her post for 15 minutes at a time to the clean-up staff that made it abundantly clear they couldn't wait for us to leave, pretty much everyone we encountered in this place made it very obvious they couldn't value our business less and they'd be happy if we never came back. We, in turn, will be happy to accommodate them.

Noisy but good food-I had a problem with how dark it was and how the napkins were crinkled at our places. I would go back, but do think they could make improvements concerning noise level and appearance.

My friends and I went for lunch and had the 15.00 seafood salad. Are complant was it was small and we were hungry after, the dressing was fair also. A main course salad should be substantial .The service was great and the please pretty.

birthday dinner for my aunts 85th. everyone seemed to really enjoy their food. the caprese salad was excellent but i thought the gnocchi tasted like the sauce came from a jar. i would have given 4 stars but i am dropping it down to 3 because of how the bill was handled. it was clearly a birthday lunch, and the server (other than this the service was excellent) walked over with the bill and announced, 'i'll just put it in the middle of the table'. it was a little uncomfortable, and since i didn't arrange this i don't know if there was a conversation about the bill prior to arriving. to me, all he had to do was pull one of us aside and ask who was handling the bill.

I work nearby this restaurant, and have to say it's one of the best "Real" Italian restaurants around. It's BYOB, and if you want to get in there Friday or Saturday night you should probably get a reservation. Prices are very reasonable, and portions are appropriate.

  • Bob T.

bread was the best thing here, its great. but the entrees were uneventful. i took a chance with the gnocchi with gorgonzola, and got an overwhelming dish that was not tastey. my wife had an average meal, but most likely will not be coming back since there are plenty of other better places in the area.

  • Helen D.

We all enjoyed the food & love the fact that it is byob. It IS good for groups - and we had 15 so Villaggio it was..... The "issues" we have with Villaggio are: it is VERY NOISY and all the meals are served ala carte. You might pay $16 for a plate of pasta then another $8 for a salad. Everyone in our group just ordered entrees ( i don't know why) -- no apps/dessert/coffee - and the bill was $400 -- but if we all ORDERED like regular people do - it would have been A LOT more $$$$. We'll go back if we need a place that is byob & can accomodate a group but I'm not rushing back with just a few people - there are better places to go that are quieter & just as good food.

Often restaurants in tourist areas have the problem of a captivated audience. They do not have to excel at their craft in order to have a consistent money stream. I think the same is true here. The good news: fresh bread and a diverse Italian menu. The bad news: average-uninspired execution. The perfect example of this would be the mozzarella salad I ordered as my main course. It was passable, but I have honestly had more flavorful basil, mozzarella, and olive oil which I have purchased from a grocery store. This summary was consistent for each of the several appetizers we ordered, as well as the 4 entrees. This average experience has led to a 3 star rating from me...karma in its purest form

I love this place. Soups, salads, pasta, entrees, deserts, and BYOB, nice place, nice people, parking, sweet location, sooo reasonable for lunch. All good things to say. DELISH! Seafood salad is like letting your tongue dance with little crabby mermaids. Wow. Ragu on pasta like the best I've had in Europe. Chicken soup is like mama maria made it last night---and it only got better. Ask what's fresh people! Always, everywhere! Then and only then you'll get the best. Like the bread. They must get it from NYC. It's just toooooogooood. I swear, it could be your whole meal it's so good. BUT IT MUST BE THE CRUSTY BAKED STUFF, not the 2nds from hoagie rolls. ASK.

Been here a few times since the original review and again tonight. This place is so good. But again, 2 adults and 2 kids....we get 4 apps and then share one of the dishes and get that "sharing charge". We had too much food and brought some home. That sharing charge is so "amatuer hour" for an otherwise excellent restaurant. 2 stars for that (would have been a solid 4).

Great food, friendly staff, BYOB, reasonable prices. I am Italian, so the sauce is key...theirs was great.

Whenever we visit family in New Hope, we usually eat at Villaggios. The food and service is consistently good. I love that it's BYOB...so the bill is usually reasonable. When Villaggios is busy, it can get quite noisy, but that's minor.

  • Barry P.

We went with one other couple. Nice value and selection. The portions were large; the fact that is ala carte as the other reviewer points out is offset by the value the generous portions provide. Nice selection of veal, chicken and seafood dishes. Food was good but not over the top. Place was noisy as previously suggested so not a place for a quiet romantic evening but good food and given the volume, very good service. BYOB makes it a value for wine drinkers. My only complaint (as I have for any place that does this) is no reservations for party under 6. The waiting area (small lobby) was claustrophobic by 730 Saturday night. All in all, a place I would return to (with 2 other friends and a reservation :) )

    (4)
  • Shawn M.

As far as tasty food goes, this place is excellent. The bread, the salads the entrees were all excellent. I would definitely come back. I can't comment on the noise factor that some reviewers have mentioned. I was there late on a weeknight so it was pretty empty. Service was fine, albeit a little slow. As far as prices, yeah, it's on the pricey side. It's not an every weekend kind of place unless you've somehow avoided being effected by the economy. All in all, though, I'd got back again.

  • Jerry K.

Incredibly a consistent authentic Italian restaurant. Attractive interior; not high end ambience, but everything is spot on and cooked to perfection. It is very very noisy, but I'm ok with this for having a place where I know the food is well prepared. BYOB is an added plus. How about real fresh Italian crusted bread that they claim to get from Brooklyn. The broccoli pasta dish is perhaps my favorite, and if not for my wife, I would never have tried it. Service is excellent, to include the best bussers in the business. Pleasant and very attentive. Understand that if this was in Philly, I would rate it a 3 star. Bucks is a disgrace with a dearth of good dining options. Mediocre restaurants abound. Word of caution; If you go on Saturday, be prepared for 1hr wait after 6:30pm, and no resdervations unless you have 6 people or more.

    (5)
  • Patrick M.

A bit loud but it's kind of small so seating is tight. Service is fantastic, very friendly and your food comes out quick but we never felt rushed even though the place was packed. The food was outstanding. The portions were just right, not too much but enough to fill you up. We can't wait to go back!

Guess I'm in the minority, but my stomach still hurts from eating there.. We were there on a Saturday night around 6. Place was not packed, there were a fair amount of tables. As soon as I walked in, the maitre d, the owner, not sure told me there was a party of 7 coming in and we had to be out by 7... Nice way to start, huh? I knew my husband really wanted to try it so I said fine. Service was good, bread, very Italian, pasta was delicious...I ordered Bronzino, which was filleted 4 out of 10..tons of bones, I mean tons.. And. Then he poured this absolutely flavorless olive oil all over it, I mean completely drenched, pretty much ruined it. I love olive oil, but it was way too much. I had to take it off the plate to drain it... I had Bronzino several times, actually 3 days before this at another restaurant in Lancaster and that was delicious and well seasoned. I'll be honest I wasn't thrilled with the food ( well my dish anyway). I try to persuade my husband to eat elsewhere, perhaps porterhouse....

What a great find! We went for dinner Friday, around 5:00, which I think was the perfect time. It started getting very crowded about midway through our meal, and you start realizing how small the place is as people are bumping into you. The waiter was very friendly and efficient. He was quick to take our order, brought us more bread and some zucchini and beans 'on the house' because of the wait, which wasn't actually that long. The Shrimp Scampi....let's talk about that for a minute. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. I get weird with shrimp... like, they freak me out sometimes. They were cooked completely through, but were still so tender you could cut them in half with a fork. And the flavor? Lemony and garlicky perfection. A lot of times in order to get a nice "sauce", restaurants saturate Scampi in butter... but not this place! Absolutely perfect. The best part? I left feeling stuffed AND I had hefty leftovers. I love when that happens. My boyfriend ha the chicken parm and liked it as well. They seemed to pound the chicken nicely, which a lot of places don't do. My only qualm would be the fact that the meals don't come with salads. 20 bucks for the scampi...I don't mind paying...but throw in some salad. Also, I wouldn't go later than 5 on a weekend. verrrrrrry crowded.

Delicious food, fabulous wait staff, fun atmosphere and HUGE servings! I was part of a large group and they just kept bringing out plate after plate of yumminess! We tried the calamari, clams, mezza plates, mozzarella covered in something divine and we also had an arugula salad with grilled chicken. Everything we ate was incredible and the staff all enjoyed having us there. This is fun for a group of people and I highly recommend it.

We came here for Restaurant Week earlier this year and had a fantastic meal and a great time! I have to say, this whole Restaurant Week thing towns are doing is great because it really gets you into restaurants you normally wouldn't think of. Everything we ate we didn't leave a crumb on the plate. Service was very friendly from the hostess when we walked in, to our waiter to the hostess again on our way out. We really felt like we were very welcome here and you don't come across that feeling very often. Most times, restaurants like this can sort of expect you to be there.

We have been here many times. The food is great the service is great. It is a BYOB. Not a quiet place. But the food is worth a little noise. Big portions. Everything is good.

Always friendly servers and really delicious. It gets crowded sometimes but it is a real gem in the land of mediocrity that is Peddler's Village. The fact that it is a BYOB makes it more enjoyable for me: I can always drink my favorite wine with the delicious offerings available.

Had a lovely lunch with a friend.. Shared an asparagus appetizer ( rolled in prosciutto and covered with a Gruyere sauce) was very good but asparagus slightly underdone for my taste . I had a veal sandwich with broccoli raab that was seasoned beautifully but was a little thin on veal.. But still tasty.. Girlfriend had a veal dish with a large side of seasoned spinach . Service was lovely and I'd definitely like to return..

I've been here about 3 or 4 times now and I can honestly say I will keep coming back. My girlfriend and I are huge fans of BYOB's and have always enjoyed coming and eating here. I must say that the the last time I was here I was extremely disappointed with our meals from appetizers to main course... That being said we knew we would come back for them to prove us wrong and we were extremely glad we did. We came in on Valentine's day and everything was great, start to finish; we had the Calamari Fritti, Insalata de Arugula, Capellini Positano and a Filet with Jumbo shrimp. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted fantastic. The waiters are always friendly and helpful as well as very attentive. I have seen people complain on other reviews about noise but personally I could care less. It's an 2 large open rooms so voices are going to carry around but it's not to the point that some people want to make it out. You are still able to carry on a conversation... We will keep on coming back and I highly recommend Villaggio to everyone.

Located in the beautiful Peddlers Village area. Every year we have a holiday party here for about 30 people. We have always been well taken care of and zero complaints. Servers are polite and attentive always. The food is amazing we pretty much get each of the appetizers they offer and multiple entrées served family style. I could go through each item on the menu but it's much simpler to say everything is delicious. Give this BYOB Italian restaurant a try.

I'm still holding my chest in disbelief the next day trying to comprehend the fact that I had an Italian meal that good in Peddlers Village!!!! Myself and a group of our friends ended up here pretty much as a last minute decision on one of our winery outings in the area. Thank God we did!!!!!! The place is in an odd location located in a small outlet center across from Peddlers Village. If you weren't looking for it, you might not ever see it!!! The place itself is fairly nice inside. Pretty roomy and the rustic look is done fairly well. Let me warn you now. If you are looking for a quiet romantic meal, this is NOT the place for you. This place has two noise levels.......LOUD and LOUDER!!!! On to the food. Appetizers were asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and Fontina cheese. Fried calamari, and mussels in red sauce. Calamari were light, not overly breaded, with a good sauce. Asparagus were very tasty and cooked perfectly. As for the mussels, easily some of the best I've ever had!!! Clean, fresh tasting and melted like butter in your mouth!! They kept plenty of bread and oil on the table and also gave us pickled Italian vegetable plates. They also never let the water glasses go empty!!!! Main courses. Mine was chicken portofino. Chicken in a garlic white wine sauce, topped with crab meat and mozzarella. Delicious!!!! There was a stuffed pork chopp that was incredible filled with broccoli rabe, cheese, sundried tomato!! The veal portofino was met with an orgasmic moan from my brother in law!!! Another had the Branzino. It's a whole sea bass that is grilled and then finished in the oven. The waiter brings it to the table and cleans it right there for you leaving you with nothing but the fillet. Another fantastic choice!!! There may be one more that I'm forgetting, but whatever it was, this table had NO complaints about anything!!! Last, the desserts!! Home made Tiramisu!! Can you say light and delicious!!!!!! I had the Flute Limoncello. Lemon gelato with Limoncello and what was similar to a meringue. God that was good!!! The cherry gelato with cherries was a huge hit as well!! Cheesecake with lemon !! I have to stop because I'm fighting the urge to get back in my car and head over there right now!!!! Service was excellent here. Our waiter, Fabio ( no I'm not making it up) Was very accommodating and did his job very well. The owner or at least I believe he was, stopped at all the tables to ask how everything was. Bottom line here is this, I may have had a better meal over the years, but I'm giving these people 5 stars for this reason. They are smart enough to open an Italian restaurant and NOT serve all the same old tired stuff that I can get at every other Italian restaurant or have done even better at home!!! This is what Italian food is all about! Variety, freshness, simplicity, all done right!!! If you are too afraid to venture out of the world of chicken parm and penne with vodka sauce, then stick to Olive Garden and leave the real Italian food to the people that know better!!!

I have been to Villaggio's s three or four times and each time I go it gets a little worse. Saturday evening I took some first timers to the resturant. 2 hours later we finally were served our dinner. My friend ordered the shrimp and scallops. 4 tiny shrimp and 4 very small scallops. All in all a very disappointing night. They tried to make it up to us but the damage was already done. It will quite some time before I spend that kind of money for poor service and food

Went around 7 pm on a Fri. Night with friends . Place is very noisy, very hard to hear unless person is speaking very loudly. The bread and olive oil were just okay. The entrees , pasta with red clam sauce, chef's chicken special and the pasta with egg plant were all below average with little taste. The special Ossa buco was the best entree. Desserts were good. Service is good and it is a BYOB restaurant. Nothing special though and we are unlikely to return.

The Sicilian Orange Salad is good too.

birthday dinner for my aunts 85th. everyone seemed to really enjoy their food. the caprese salad was excellent but i thought the gnocchi tasted like the sauce came from a jar. i would have given 4 stars but i am dropping it down to 3 because of how the bill was handled. it was clearly a birthday lunch, and the server (other than this the service was excellent) walked over with the bill and announced, 'i'll just put it in the middle of the table'. it was a little uncomfortable, and since i didn't arrange this i don't know if there was a conversation about the bill prior to arriving. to me, all he had to do was pull one of us aside and ask who was handling the bill.

I work nearby this restaurant, and have to say it's one of the best "Real" Italian restaurants around. It's BYOB, and if you want to get in there Friday or Saturday night you should probably get a reservation. Prices are very reasonable, and portions are appropriate.

bread was the best thing here, its great. but the entrees were uneventful. i took a chance with the gnocchi with gorgonzola, and got an overwhelming dish that was not tastey. my wife had an average meal, but most likely will not be coming back since there are plenty of other better places in the area.

Always friendly servers and really delicious. It gets crowded sometimes but it is a real gem in the land of mediocrity that is Peddler's Village. The fact that it is a BYOB makes it more enjoyable for me: I can always drink my favorite wine with the delicious offerings available.

No alcohol.

We have been here a handful of times, and somehow the dining room gets louder with each visit. There are no soft surfaces anywhere in the dining room to absorb sound. This is unfortunate because the food and service are very good. Food and service rate 4 stars. Atmosphere rates 2 stars.

Whenever we visit family in New Hope, we usually eat at Villaggios. The food and service is consistently good. I love that it's BYOB...so the bill is usually reasonable. When Villaggios is busy, it can get quite noisy, but that's minor.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
