I love Josie's. The combination of icy water ice (much better than Rita's chain) with their creamy thick custard creates this beautiful thing called a gelati. Cheap, filling, refreshing. I'm a huge fan of the creamsicle custard (the flavors rotate by week) or the watermelon or root beer with vanilla custard. I'll admit that it's not the cleanest of places nor in the greatest neighborhood (my old neighborhood, might I add), but definitely worth the trip.

This place is sooo freaking good. I'll never go to Rita's again. They're basically the same thing but I thing Josie's ice is creamy and more delicious and they have better flavors. The custard is great too. A mounds ice/chocolate custard gelati is my favorite!!

I have to say I love Josie's! The service is always fast and friendly, and I think they have a great selection. They have not only amazing Italian ice and creamy custard (which would be enough to sell me!) they also have flurries and banana splits, root beer floats and even chicken and fries! Plus there are picnic benches under an awning. As another reviewer said.. do yourself the favor of skipping the chain, check Josie's out, you will not be disappointed!

This place is GREAT! I don't actually come here for their water ice or other selections, but their custard which is beyond delicious! Many different featured flavors throughout the month make this place a must-visit!

With a Rita's nearby, I fear Josie's often gets overlooked. As much as I enjoy Rita's, this small operation is worth skipping the chain for. They have basic flavors, but none are disappointing. As another reviewer mentioned, the custard is very creamy and it makes gelati really enjoyable here. The prices aren't bad at all, and they do rotate special flavors each week. I've never had a bad experience here. Do yourself a favor and pass up Rita's, go a few blocks further for this joint!
