My wife's comment was, "good thing we don't have one of these where we live, because we wold eat here too often and eat too much." We just unfortunately don't have such small Italian restaurants in the south. There were tons of pizza slices of wide varieties ready to be heated, but we went for eggplant parm. And chicken Marcella. Both were exceptional. Don't leave without getting garlic knots, which are $1.50'for 4. We did not need them, but they looked so good and for that price, how could you skip them. My daughter just had a cheese slice and it was great, my son had baked ravioli which he thought was exceptional. If I ever returned to e Hershey area this would be a must stop.

Excellent pizza, great selection to choose from, and fast and friendly service.

Great homemade Italian food. We ordered a lunch of lasagna, eggplant parm sandwich, spagetthi and meatballs and meatball sub. All were really great. Bread was the best - housemade. I checked - they make it all themselves. Highly recommend over anything else on the mall around Hershey. Drive a little ways and you will be rewarded. Two adults and two teens, one a picky eater. There were a lot of choices on the menu. The staff were all speaking Italian to each other. Thought that was a good sign.

Solid local pizzeria and italian eatery. I swung by here for lunch and enjoyed a nice meaty slice. They also had some garlic knots that were pretty decent but would probably have gone better with one of the pasta dishes. Friendly staff and yummy food made for a great lunch.

Been going here for well over 10 years now & it seems to only get better! The Taco Pizza is AMAZING! Their service is great - very fast, very friendly. I do wish they delivered. Still 5 stars for sure because of their large selection of pizzas, Middleswarth BBQ chips, drinks & everything else!

With all the stellar reviews for this place on Yelp, I was really excited when I ordered a slice of stuffed chicken parmesan pizza! But, alas, my dreams of amazing stuffed pizza left a lot to be desired. There was something very bitter about the breaded chicken and cheese inside my slice, and I ended up picking out the stuffing and just eating the crust. I will probably go back and try it again, just in case it was a fluke, but for now, I'm giving it two stars. It just wasn't that good. (I noticed several people ordered the buffalo chicken stuffed pizza; will probably try that next time). Note to people from out of town - this place is closed on Mondays.

Very creative and amazing pizzas served by a friendly family staff. My only critique would be, and may God forgive me for saying this, but their pizzas have too much meat and cheese and not enough veggies to counteract. They taste incredible, but being so heavy, it's hard to have them often and avoid looking like you're from... umm... well... Pennsylvania.

The Hershey area is not exactly the mecca of good food. But if you can find your way to Palermo's, which is in a tiny hamlet next door to Hershey called Hummelstown, you will find some of my favorite Italian casual takeout ever!! Palermo's has a couple of tables but you place your order at the counter, next to a few tantalizing pizzas, garlic knots, and other mouthwatering looking and ridiculously unhealthy specialties. The pizza is fantastic, and they have numerous special pizzas such as stuffed pizzas, white pizzas, etc. There is an 'Old World pizza' that my husband loves that has tomato sauce on top of the cheese. And best of all, me & my friends love the stuffed shells. You can pick this stuff up take-out, and it was worth the drive. These stuffed shells are absolutely the best, best sauce, best shells, full of cheese.... I feel like driving a few hours to Hershey just to get these right now. It's a family owned restaurant and everyone there is very nice. The price is right, and you get plenty of food. Best Italian in the Hershey/Harrisburg area.

I used to like the other pizza place down the street for years, but they cheapened their ingredients and the food is terrible. Palermos has a nice thin crust pizza with a very tasty sauce. They have lots of stuffed pizzas that looked interesting, and the meatball sub was very good on the roll made from pizza dough.

Great small town Italian restaurant with a large menu ranging from pizza/Stromboli to many pasta dishes and sandwiches. We eat here a few times every month. I've had better Italian dishes here than most Big Chain places for less $$ and better service. Here are a few of our favorite dishes: Pasta rabbiata - Penne in a spicy pink sauce with meat. Tortellini Bolognese - Great flavor with a good amount of meat. All pasta dishes come with a decent small house salad with awesome fresh baked garlic bread. Cream of Broccoli soup - very thick with pieces of bacon, large bowl served with that awesome garlic bread. Grinders, Salads, Sicilian deep dish pizza, Stromboli, cheese steaks are all as good as any "pizza shop"! The owners are very friendly and have been running a great business for many years.

I drive out of my town with so many pizza shops to go here its that good! The stuffed pizza is there signature dish.

Just in for a couple of days, and stumbled upon Palermo's. Buffalo Chicken stuffed pizza to die for, and our son loved the cheese pizza. The crust is amazing! It was so good, we had to go back our second night! Plus, off the path a bit and away from the Hershey crowds. Highly recommended!

Former New Yorker here. I have reviewed another pizza shop in the area and I have found a challenger. Palermo's Neapolitan pizza is as close to good New York pizza as you can get from this area. I have not tried anything else from this shop. This review is based solely on their regular pizza. This is my favorite pizza place so far.

Not sure where they learned to make calzone, but every one I've made or purchase contained ricotta cheese except this one. Won't be visiting this place anytime in the near future.

3.5 stars....Palermo's has pretty decent pizza (albeit a little on the small side), they DELIVER, and they have better hours than Bricker's :) Too bad their pizza delivery guy was a little spacey...he forgot the receipt and didn't bring the pizza in a warming bag so it was cool when it arrived :(. The girl who answers the phone is pretty nice though :) All-in-all, it's a great Plan B when Bricker's inexplicably closes at 7pm!

After a long day at Hershey Park my family and I, along with friends, we're looking for a good dinner to finish off the day. Fortunately we found Palermo's. This was exactly what we were looking for. A comfortable environment with absolutely delicious food. I totally recommend the stuffed pizza and the baked gnocchi. On top of that the staff was very friendly and waited over us like family. Now I know where to go to eat when we're in Hershey. It's minutes from Hershey Park.

They have the BEST stuffed pizza!Their food is all unique - the garlic knots are great and the staff is super friendly!

Great carry-out or dine-in homemade italian food. Order at the counter, little checkered tableclothes. Loved the variety of pizzas, breads, and salads. Casual atmosphere, hometown feel.

Delicious food, friendly staff, and reasonable prices! They have lots of unique varieties of stuffed pizza, my favorite being the lasagna stuffed pizza. Great little place!

I can't believe I have not reviewed this place. I guess your favorites you take for granted. The first place my wife think of for italian food is here. They really do have the best pizza. There subs are awesome (Try the baked ones). We have also ordered the dinners. My favorite is the Veal Parmesan. Its actually hard to find this dish. No veal at Olive garden.

  • Wayne S.

I absolutely love Palermo's!! My wife and I have eaten several strombolis and had their pizza. All I can say is Yummy! It is my favorite pizza in the area. I just wish it wasn't almost 30 minutes from my house. Oh well. The owners are authentic Italians and very friendly. They get my orders right every time. Why go anywhere else once you've tried Palermo's? Highly recommend!!

My wife and I stopped in over the weekend for lunch and were really amazed at the assortment of unique pizzas they offered. I ordered two slices of chicken parm and my wife tried a slice of lasagna. First off, be warned, these are stuffed pizzas and are VERY filling. My wife and I could only finish one slice each, and then WE were stuffed. The chicken parm was very good and my wife enjoyed her slice of lasagna pizza as well. Nice staff, very friendly and a great place to relax with family or friends!

Better tasting than the Hershey Palermo ii. Average pizza. Nothing mind blowing but tasted decent. Prices reasonable.

Delicious pasta. We tried pasta primavera with cream sauce, cavatelli, and penne with veggies, garlic and olive oil. All of them were great. Folks were very nice as well.

I don't give five stars but rarely. They deserve TEN stars out of five. We had the pierogies and stromboli which was excellent!!!

One of my favorite hoagie places ever! The italian hoagie with house dressing (oil & vinegar & spices) is so good - thinking about it makes me hungry for one. I've tried some of the other hoagies too, and they are good as well. Large menu so lots to choose from - different types of hoagies & subs, pizza, french fries & fried foods. Fair prices. The people who run this family-owned business and the employees are so nice & friendly. Lots of seating (inside & a few tables outside). Order at the counter and they bring the food out to your table. Clean restrooms. Not a fancy place - just casual. Come here in your jeans & old sneakers and feel comfortable. This place is always busy with locals coming in to pick up their take-out orders. They may do delivery as well but I'm unsure. Do yourself a favor - if you are in the Hershey/Hummelstown area and you want a good hoagie & french fries, this is the place!

Before hitting the road for the long drive home, found this place on yelp. Ordered the Italian hoagie with house dressing per recommendations of another yelp review. SO disappointing of a sandwich. Came on a house made bread which had none of that special fresh bread taste that some bakeries, pizzerias and restaurants can produce. Very surprising since this is a pizzeria. Even a mass produced Aldi's French baguette tastes so much better. A few slices of supermarket like ham, some cheese some olive oil and vinegar. I mean this sandwich reminded me of the mistake I made trying a pre-made ham and cheese hoagie at Walmart a few years ago. Could not have been a more bland and disappointing meal and I am not that picky!

    (1)
  • Jennifer T.

Food here is only OK. Hoagies were tasty and my kids enjoyed their slices, but my husband's cheesesteak was bland and the bread was a little strange. It was pretty expensive for what it was: $28 for two sandwiches and two slices of pizza. Not a bad stop if you're driving through, but I wouldn't make a special stop for it.

  • Allegra S.

Palmero's will not disappoint. I just moved to the area and was looking for a good pizza place and decided to try here cause of the good reviews. Boy were those reviews accurate. The food was so delicious and such generous portions, you will leave here satisfied. The food was very reasonably priced too. I can't wait to go back!

Delicious & fantastic Italian fare. We had a buffalo chicken slice & a meatball sub. The bread for the sub is made from the best pizza dough I've tasted. Had a family of 3, in between & the staff was incredible - suggesting foods after asking what we were interested in. Very caring, too. I'm rating it 5 stars because it's the quintessential Italian take-out. Family-oriented atmosphere, the food is crafted with care, and the people were fantastic.

Nice neighborhood place. Got NY style pizza and antipasto salad which was good. Nothing fancy but very hard working father and daughter run the place and work hard to make sure everything is ok with diners. Great to support place like this vs national pizza chain

The food was AWESOME! Fresh and really yummy. The owner was very friendly. The place was clean and it was also affordable. If we ever come back we will definitely sop here.

Great pizza. Stopped in after too much chocolate and super enjoyed the pie. Italian local girl owns(?) the place and is really friendly. I'd def recommend to tourist families and locals alike. Ohh and the crust was amazing!!

This place was AWESOME! The staff was friendly, portions were huge, and it was so good. Our meal for 4 people cost $35...we each had pasta dinners which came with a salad and a garlic roll. It was fantastic. They also serve sandwiches, burgers, and pizza, and have chicken fingers for the kids. The garlic knots are amazing. You get 4 for $1.25 - they are big, about the size of your palm. I highly recommend this place. Coming to Hershey on vacation all the way from Chicago, I rely a lot on Yelp. They haven't steered me wrong yet!

We went here a little over a week ago while visiting Hershey, we found them thru Yelp. Absolutely delicious. We had a slice of cheese, philly steak, baked ziti, & spinach alfredo stuffed pizza slices. They were wonderful everyone enjoyed there slice & there was plenty of leftovers. I had the baked ziti, it was not dry the sauce ratio was good even got extra sauce on the side. My family of 4 ate for under $25.

This place is definitely worth a try. As you approach the place looks like a typical pick-up/take-out pizza place. However, they have a pretty large menu. We already had pizza on the brain, but after tasting the pizza I'd be interested in trying some of their other dishes. We ordered a sausage & pepperoni pizza and two slices of cheese. They both were really good. The people next to us ordered two Sicilian pizzas and they looked really good. I'd wager to guess any of the pizza/calzone/rolls/strombolis would be good. If you're in Hershey, on this side of town, this place would be a real good option. You could obviously dine in or getting take out to bring back to a group visiting Hershey Park would be another good option.

Came up to the Hershey area from the DC area to go to a Hershey Bears hockey game. Ended up at this place thanks to Yelp for a quick snack and to kill some time before the game. Bought a whopping two slices of cheese pizza and a Coke for my daughter and myself, the rest of our party not hungry. I got no attitude from the guy who took our order, not even when I handed him my credit card for the $5 purchase. The pizza slices were delicious. Can't get pizza that tastes like this in DC. Even my daughter, who is not much of a pizza fan, really liked her slice. Great casual place, nice people, great pizza slices, very inexpensive.

Like the other reviews says, this place is AWESOME. My family and I were visiting Hershey last week and did not want to eat at the typical tourist places. We parked along the street and walked in. Owner (older gentleman) was very friendly and patient despite us taking a few minutes to place our order. The garlic knots were the great size and 4 for $1.97!! Seriously AWESOME! Saw quite a few locals in there as well. We had excellent pizza, clam linguini, and spaghetti with meatball. I wish we had a local small place like us near us! If you are visiting Hershey - definitely go here!! :)

Always our go to pizza shop in Hummelstown. The staff is always very friendly and welcoming. Their pizza is the best in the Hershey area :-). Also try their garlic knots, to.die.for. if you are looking for some thing a little healthier their side salad with house dressing will hit the spot. Prehaps leave the cheese off, but that's the best part. Street parking, but honestly Hummelstown isn't a big city, you'll always find parking. Also, 10 dollar minimum for credit cards. Do yourself the favor and treat your tastebuds to the fantastic pizza and great people here....

went to palmero's while visiting the area based on the good Yelp reviews. Overall, a good choice for pizza. Please note that it is a "pizza shop" with no alcohol and not a table service sit-down restaurant. We ordered pizza and garlic knots and were mostly pleased with both. Pizza is hand tossed Italian style and baked in a deck oven. the crust was delicious and they put plenty of cheese and toppings on the pie. (I do have an issue though with using canned mushrooms - yuk! you have a good pizza please use fresh mushrooms!) Pizza sauce was nondescript. The pie was a bit on the salty side but again overall we were very pleased. service was friendly and efficient. prices seemed fair as well 10.75 for a 16" cheese. also worth mentioning...the shop was well kept and clean....nice job!

Great dinner after a long drive. Ordered small veggie calzone and it was HUGE. kids had cheese pizza and the slices filled the plates. Baked ziti pizza and buffalo chicken pizza were different but tasty. Mom and Pop type place. Very affordable for the amount of food we got.

Palermo's really has the best pizza in the area. We've tried all the local shops and now that we've found Palermo's we don't go anywhere else for pizza. The sandwiches are also yummy!

We found this place on vacation. The garlic bread was fantastic as was the pizza!! Can't wait to go back someday!

I used to live adjacent to Hummelstown in Union Deposit. Palermo's was my Saturday feast pizza place of choice. They have a very extensive menu but I really just stuck to what made Palermo's the best, their pizza. It's some of the best pizza I have ever had and that includes NYC. It's run by an Italian family in a small unpretentious building. When I find myself back in the Harrisburg/Hershey area I MUST go to Palermo's and have my fix of 2 slices of pepperoni pizza and a Coke....Perfect!

I had A Chicken Parmesan Dinner.I thought the portion was huge. I liked the tomato sauce. I Enjoyed The Chicken. It Had a little crunch to it.It includes spaghetti,Chicken, and Tomato Sauce. It Was Good.My Father Had A Buffalo Chicken Pizza He Thought The Dough Was Very Tasty. He also Thought It Was Really Good. The Service Was good but came out pretty slowly. My Mother Had Pepperoni Sticks And Salad She Really Liked it.My Brother Had Meat Lover He Thought it was Yummy! Also he thought the dough had good texture and the meat was good. The pepperoni an top made him like it more plus it added a good spice. My Other Brother Had Angel Hair He Thought It Was Good. Inside the angel hair slice was mozzarella and spaghetti which he had enjoyed very much. We also ordered garlic nots which were cooked to a good temperature and spiced to an amazing level. The pricing was also reasonable. The staff was polite and enjoyable. So enjoy yourself and have some stuffed pizza. To recap this restaurant our family enjoyed all of the courses we had ordered.

Great pizza, great pasta! Nice selection. I wish they'd deliver to apartments but it's ok since it's not that far in the first place.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
