The food is adequate but overpriced. And they seem to have instituted a policy of non-service unless you are a frequent flyer here. The "hostess" is completely incompetent at noticing people who are waiting to be seated and the waitresses are more interested in yapping on cell phones and kibbitzing with friends than they are in taking orders and bringing food. I agree with the reviewer who said it used to be a great place but now it's not. If I could give a lower rating than one star, I'd do that.

The restaurant was under construction but the food and service was great. We waited a bit to get seated, but we were a large group and did arrive early.

I have to agree that getting seated is a problem, with nowhere to wait inside comfortably on a busy and rainy evening. However, I found the service to be quite good, and my entree was excellent. Sure, I am not fond of red beets in my salad, but the chicken marsala was quite good.

Not a fan, not even a little. I had the worst dinner here, and pretty much zero service. Not sure how this place gets business?? I'm a huge fan of pasta dishes, just assumed since they made it sound so delicious on the menu, i'd try a pasta dish. When the meal finally came it looked rather unappealing. I could kinda tell right away from looking at it. I ordered a seafood pasta w\ white sauce. YUCK! over cooked soggy noodles, ZERO flavor, and when I pushed the heaping pasta to the side of my dish, I find pasta water. I didn't want to ruin the night, so I said nothing to the waitress, to me, it just wasn't worth the aggravation. We just decided we would never go back there again. Oh, and this place has a dress code...makes no sense to me.

Edible, but overpriced for what you get. HUGE portions, excessively so - I took my left overs home and barely finished my entree in two sittings. I am also under the impression that no one knew what the hell they were doing. After our mussels appetizer (that we waited half hour for), my entree came 40 minutes later. Within a minute of receiving it however, the busboy came to take our dishes away. He grabbed the plates right as my girlfriend picked up her first spoonful! After we ordered we were brought someone else's leftovers all boxed up. Not very organized. Our waitress was polite and mentioned she was training someone, but after our initial meeting, nobody came to take my order. I had to hunt them down so we could order. The bread was good, as well as the mussels, but this was followed by a flavourless entrees. The braciole (italian rolled steak) was dry and doused in a half a quart of off-the-shelf acidic red sauce. This sat on a giant pile of pasta that would be appropriate for 4 mouths, not one. My girlfriends salmon was plain and on par with the frozen stuff you get at the supermarket. The decor was nice, but clashed with the horrible cheap chairs and tables. Overall I think this place has potential, however the restaurant seems confused, attempting fancy-expensive Italian and falling many yards short. Needs smaller plates with better, fresher, more flavourful food, and a retrained staff. At $40 per head for dinner there are better places.

Great food ! Great hometown feel !!! Some of my Personal favorites are the Eggplant Parmesan, sausage red pepper penne , and the lump crab cakes ! The filthy pig martini goes with everything, and the creme brûlée is a perfect finish !

This was recommended by locals for a good neighborhood Italian place, and it did not disappoint. Hostess was telling everyone the wait was 45 minutes, but the people in front of us told us that the people in front of them had waited only 25; so, it turned out, did we. This was the last day of the "spring specials" before the restaurant closed for a week and converted to a summer menu (there's also a large selection of entrees not on the seasonal part of the menu), so since it was lateish in the evening I like to think I was the last person this year to have the barramundi. It was well-cooked, a little dry, on a large bed of angel hair with a touch of an interesting light citrus sauce. Pretty good. Better still was the wedding soup, with ground beef and chicken as well as meatballs and a good selection of veggies. Best of all was the appetizer, "greens and beans" with sausage. The sausage was spicy and flavored the whole dish, which was a tasty and perfectly cooked little saute bowl.

Ate here last weekend for Dad's birthday. It was not very good. We ordered Calamari, Fried zuchini and anti-pasta salad. These were all fine, but nothing out of the ordinary. The entrees however, were disappointing. My Chicken Marsala was bland and tasted pretty much like a plain chicken breast drowned in a brown sauce from a can. My wife's Eggplant Parmesan was disgusting. Tasted like a sponge and the beading was like a skin that could be peeled off. Service seemed attentive enough, but later we realized that no bread was ever delivered to our table, and although we had at least 4 dishes at our table were some kind of pasta with red sauce, there was no cheese on the dish, or delivered to the table. Basically, this is a $10 a head experience that you pay $30 each for. Pasta not fresh made. I wouldn't be surprised it all of the food came we saw came out of a restaurant-supply box.

Not impressed at all, thumps way down! Over priced and cheap ingredient, yuck yuck yuck!!

Great eggplant, meat ball and pasta cooked perfectly. The calamari is the best hands down. Fresh bread and a well balanced sauce that rivals lidias. Seems the biggest complaint for folks is the price. I say keep cooking the best Italian in Westmoreland county. Do not cut corners in quality and service. It's always a great meal which is hard to find in greensburg. If you want cheap food and bad service go to Olive Garden. Leave sunset to those of use who understand. Keep up the great work Noviello's.

Had dinner with friend who lives in town and my client visiting from NY. My friend had veal, she liked it very much. My client and I had Chilean Sea Bass. Was nicely grilled. Tasty but slightly salty. We would've had dessert but it was late and they sold out.

Not great. My wife and I both had salads. My chop salad was as boring as could be with lettuce that was a day too old. My wife's salmon salad was better, but the salmon was completely unseasoned and cooked to death. Our dinner partners had pasta with red sauce and didn't complain, but did mention that the pasta was not fresh. We've tried the white pizza and will not again.

Service was good but food was mediocre at best and way over priced. I had seafood crepes and the seafood was a mere garnish for something that cost $24.00. The sauce on my husbands pasta was bland and did not seem to be anything more than out of a jar. The bread was excellent but if you asked for more they brought you a cheaper bread. I won't be back

Generally an ok place, except $18 for lasagna in Greensburg?! Glad to see they want to be upscale, but it takes more than price - the food has to taste and look good. The pizza is still decent. We'll take a hiatus for the foreseeable future.

I feel as if I may be a little unfair in my review of this establishment as I cook a lot of pasta and rarely find a dish that can compare to home made sauces. I live within walking distance to this cafe and surprisingly hadn't ever been there. One early evening we decided to give it a try. While we did walk there is ample parking for guests in several places nearby. Private lots mostly. There are several signs outside that denote a dress code policy, but state things like "no muscle shirts." So, maybe there is a dress code? Maybe weigh lifters are not welcome as they carbo-load too much? I'm still not sure. There were definitely people in jeans and sports team t-shirts inside though. I felt over dressed in my skirt and dress shirt. Attempting to make the restaurant seem more affluent and high brow may have been their way to justify the prices we paid. We were seated promptly, and I have to admit it was very small inside. Almost akin to being in someone's house. We were given a window seat overlooking... the roof of the salon next door. Lack luster, but essentially out of their hands I suppose. We ordered beer from a small-ish selection and salad before the pasta. The salads were the run of the mill "house salad," which means iceburg lettuce, a single cherry tomato, two rings from an onion, 6 croutons (which were actually rather good), and the usual "ranch, light ranch, italian, french, and vinaigrette" choices for dressing. (I am biased as I nearly loathe iceburg lettuce though.) After a surprising wait, we were presented with our pasta dishes. The servings were quote large (Another reason to charge more? It was more pasta than I would have eaten in two sittings. Read: Excessive.), but I was hugely disappointed with the flavor. The pasta noodles (angel hair) was cooked well, although perhaps a little over done. The sauce I had ordered was nothing different than a jar of "pasta sauce" from the grocery store. The bread severed with dinner was acceptable, although nothing impressive. I think that was the theme of the entire meal. There wasn't really an atmosphere set in the restaurant what so ever and the food was merely "ok." In all none of that would have bothered me if we hadn't dropped FIFTY DOLLARS on this meal. As much as I hate chains like The Olive Garden, I've had more flavorful meals from there and at a lower price. It's not fair of me to not give it a second chance, but I can't imagine going back there to drop another fifty dollars on a meal that was less enjoyable than something I could spend my day making at home for far less than half the price.

I went here in early January for the first time. The place was under construction inside, which was a little unsightly, but I know that's only a temporary thing. Our service though was good. The waitress was young, but extremely nice and knew the menu. The food was good, not excellent though. I had the eggplant parmesan, which was OK, and my partner had the stuffed peppers, which were enjoyed. The salads were surprisingly tasty as well. However, the people that showed up in the restaurant were a little bit unsavory for me. Also, I went to use the restroom which was in the bar and that was gross, so I'm afraid to know what the kitchen is like. So, would I go back? Probably not.

I've been going here for years and the food is consistently outstanding. I love their gnocchi and the desserts are so yummy. I did get the chicken parmesan once and it wasn't great, but the pasta is always good. I also like how you can make reservations online now. Great place!

Sunset Cafe has yet to let me down. The service there is incredible. Any time we have ever asked for anything special or particular, we have always been accommodated. They've never said no to anything we asked specifically for. Enthusiastic, friendly, prompt wait staff. The food is also great. When you go, you MUST order the crab-stuffed mushrooms over risotto. The risotto will change your life. Haha. It's so fantastic. I love the gnocchi, too! Great restaurant, we go back again and again.

I was a frequent customer of the Sunset until some bad experiences this year. The seating service is awful. I have had a hard time getting seated there even when there are tons of empty tables. It is also overpriced for what you receive. I would say by about 50%. Too bad, this was at one time a great place.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
