Oh, Steak n' Shake. When you're having a good day, I love your cheap burgers and melts and fries and shakes. But when you're having a bad day, you disappoint me so. I don't expect perfection for a meal that costs under $6, but assembling a melt shouldn't be that hard, right? On two of my last three visits, I've received a patty melt with a patty on one corner of the (untoasted) bread, with semi-melted cheese, and last night's sandwich didn't include either the onions or my requested Frisco sauce. The fries are still some of my favorites, but I've finally learned my lesson on the burgers. On good days I'm a fan, but since I can't predict when those might be, it's worth the extra few dollars and effort to get out of the car across the street at Five Guys to avoid bad-day-Steak-n'-Shake-disappointment.

Wait staff was pleasant, burgers were good... but the shakes we ordered came AFTER we finished ALL our food. Others who arrived after us had shakes before us. Not cool. We wanted to dip fries in the shakes. :(

On my last 2 lunch visits my burger as well as my friend's was rather mediocre. I always request my bun to be toasted a little longer but each time of the past 2 times they were rather soggy. Maybe it's just one of those "hit or miss" places, depending on the time of day. Incidentally, the times I was impressed it was after midnight and few customers were in there so maybe that's the difference.

This place should not even be considered a fast food restaurant. We ordered two very simple menu items, with no customization. I have been waiting thirty minutes to get our "fast" food. Going through the drive through was only a good idea in theory. I am never ever coming back. My boyfriend says I should just keep typing this yelp review until I get my food and see how long this review gets. I am way too tired to do that. So just warning you - please never ever come here. This is ridiculous. I should've just gone to the 24/7 Walmart next door to buy peanut butter, jelly, and bread. Update: So turns out they served the guys before and after us and they forgot about us. Great. Way to go. And they also upgraded the order of the person in front of us for free because they waited. Did we get an upgrade for our forty minute long wait? Nope. I'm still in shock that the servers forgot about us. And it took forty minutes to get our "fast" food. Our food was literally off their cheap menu and had no fancy add ons. Ps. I just tried the food and it is not good. At all. The fries are really dry. I bet they do that so the shakes taste better in comparison. The taco salad was just dressing.

This steak and shake has the best servers, they act like they actually care about you lol and they know their regulars! The food is great for the price you pay and the place is clean. Breakfast is pretty good too! Large menu!

Seating and service took forever. Granted they were busy but still, you have to be prepared. Heard workers talking about people quitting and discussing their own resignation plans. Kind of a turn off. Food was ok. Very cheap. Basically this place is McDonalds with a longer wait and thinner fries.

I love the patty melt. I also love the shakes. I used have to drive from Philadelphia to satisfy my shake cravings. There is now one in Harrisburg which is much closer. I will always have the memories of driving four hours one way just for a patty melt and a shake.

Stopped at Steak and Shake today for dinner before catching a movie. It was Labor Day. The place was literally half empty, but we had to wait almost 10 minutes before anyone stopped over to seat us. There were several empty tables that hadn't been bussed. Our server took a while to get to us, but once she did, she apologized. We ordered. It took what seemed like AGES for us to even get our shakes (ordered as beverages with our meals). I ended up using napkins to clean off the sticky ketchup bottles; half the people at our table were smeared with ketchup, and our food hadn't even arrived! The shakes were drained by the time our food got there. And I didn't even get the burger I'd ordered. I ate it anyway, since we would've missed the movie if I'd waited for a new burger. Our server was kind enough to take the burger off our bill. She seemed like a pro; the problem seemed to be in the kitchen. Maybe because it was Labor Day, they'd given the A-team off, and so the kitchen was staffed with the B, C or possibly D-team. This place never seems to serve as quickly as it seems they ought to (they have a drive-thru!), so if you have somewhere to be, keep looking. The last time I came, though, I had one of the best patty melt burgers of my life, so it just may be worth the wait!
