After hearing from the kids that they are not a fan of Halligan's, I had to drag the oldest daughter over there for a repeat visit (and to view new menu). The restaurant is the same, open tables in the front room but a bit more private in the porch room. New menu is a bit (a lot) smaller, but still has good signature dishes on it. When in doubt, go for the shepherd's pie. The daughter went for the crab cake (another fantastic holdover) and I went for the Chicken Monterey special. Absolutely wonderful food, and with cocktails the bill before tip was in the mid $30.00 range. Service was a bit spotty, but it was a Monday night. Great place for a family dinner.

Due in full to Rick R.'s fantastic review, we decided to try Halligan's, and were very glad that we did. One of the things we liked about Halligan's is that you can tell it's a neighborhood spot, packed with locals. Every table was full with families eating together, with children of all ages, and the bar was full, too. We were lucky to get a couple of seats at the bar, and where we decided to stay and eat. The decor is definitely no frills, but seems to be moving in the direction of something more modern, that is it's not a dive bar. The beer selection is not bad. Lots of domestics on tap, but also a couple of craft picks. More craft beer available in bottles. It looks like they're moving towards a setup with quickly rotating beers, as they've decided to use a chalkboard on the wall to display the beer list, which seems good. I decided to go with a Guiness on tap, which while perhaps not the 'perfect pour' was tasty nonetheless. I was pretty impressed with the food here. The menu definitely has a bar food bent to it. We decided to try a few things to get a feel for the food, so started with the spicy curly fries (good), went to the arugula salad (HIGHLY recommend--the goat cheese balls they put in the salad are amazing), and finished with a cheesesteak hoagie (nicely prepared, good hot peppers). The menu is pretty large, and we hope to go back and try more of the food. One of my favorite aspects of the place was the service. Our bartender (I think her name was Ellen) was great--very funny and attentive. She definitely was a big part of the overall experience. If you happen to be in the Flourtown area and are looking for a quick bite and a beer, I recommend checking out Halligan's. It's a nice time in a homey atmosphere.

We went here for dinner while I was working in the area. We didn't have to wait to be seated and sat out on the patio. Either we weren't given a drink menu or there isn't one, but I decided to save my money rather than inquire about it haha. We had the irish fries to start, which tasted like the typical loaded fries you would get at a pub, about average. For dinner, I had the roast beef sandwich which was great and the perfect sized portion. The service was so so. Everything came out in a reasonable amount of time, but the waitress basically ignored us after we were given our food and didn't check up or anything. Prices were very reasonable. This seems like a very local place where everyone knows eachother. Food was above average pub fare. I would probably come here again.

For basic pub-ish food this is a nice little spot. I was in the area with my friends and we decided to stop here for a late lunch. We got the cheesy crab dip which I have never had before, and it was pretty good. While there was a little more glue like cheese preventing from efficient scooping, it made for a salty crabby mix delight. I ordered a basic burger and tried what was so popular in the East Coast: chips with Old Bay. For myself, the Old Bay seems super salty but a good condiment to add to chips for a cheat meal. The burger itself was good, I ordered medium rare and it came as ordered which was good and while I did not eat the bun entirely, it was a filling meal. My friend got the mini crab cakes which she enjoyed and size wise was enough for a meal itself for one person too. This place has daily specials besides happy hour which I found fun and the atmosphere itself was not too loud but then again we were there for a late lunch during an in-between time...

I came here with my uncle to grab a bite to eat and I wanted to get a burger because, hell, I haven't had a good burger since California and after 6 months of no good burgers, I was going a little crazy. Got there right after noon and was seated immediately. They seemed to have a few regulars in there but this place looked like it'd get pretty busy for dinner or if there's a big game on the tube. Looked and felt like a typical pub that's on the cleaner and neater side. I ordered the cheeseburger with bacon and it was decent. Nothing to rave about. I had a few beers too and it was on the average side. Nothing blew me away but nothing was bad enough to say that I won't be back. I might go back if I was in the area and was hungry and didn't want to drive any further. Service was decent. All-in-all, solid 3/5. Btw, I'm still crazy. Parking: Lot Price: $10+ per person Wait: 5-10 mins after ordering

***STOP!*** If you have not been here in the past 3 weeks, don't read any other reviews. The menu has completely changed. The decor has changed. The draft and craft beer list has vastly improved! Walking into the newly restyled bar and dining room area you'll notice some changes. The decor and ambiance is much improved. Their draft and craft beer list is now written on the chalkboard painted wall across from the bar. It is easy to see from most of the seats and is a great way to advertise their beer list. The new menu is great. They have lots of choices from munchies and sandwiches to tasty entrees and dessert. In the past the food was bland, at best. I was never a big fan, even though I live so close. The food now is on par with good city bars and pubs, if not better than a lot of them. I'd liken their quality to places such as Rembrandt's and even Lemon Hill in Fairmount. Good food, good selection of beer, and a good ambiance. I believe it may take a little while for the younger crowd to realize a change for the better has taken place. Now that my fiance and I are aware we will be going here on a weekly basis. They have Trivia and daily specials. Check out their Facebook or website for more info. No, I don't work for Halligan's nor have they asked me to write a review. I'm just this excited! If you have not been to Halligan's in a while, or have never been here, you need to come back and give it another shot. You won't be disappointed!

Walked in3-4 weeks ago and the place smelled of stale beer. The lighting is dim, so most people don't notice the drabbiness. This place needs a serious update, and I'm not talking go metro, but they definitely need a good 3-4 day overhaul with new paint, carpet, and lighting. The only thing they don't need to replace is the service. Always prompt, courteous and friendly. This place has SO MUCH POTENTIAL but just seems to rely on regulars and past reputation.

1st time visit to this place We were greeted and promptly seated by very pleasant staff. Chose to sit in the outside area on a beautiful early evening. We started with a few draft beers Ordered buffalo wings, (above average) Had meatloaf with mashed and salad. Pretty good meatloaf, not too much cut, but a little too much of a smoky flavor from all the bacon (I know is there such a thing as TOO much bacon?) Answer... yes :-) Salad was pretty good (descent Caesars dressing) mashed may have been a mix of powdered and real, but predominantly powdered tasting... still not bad per se I had a cheddar burger. Pretty good actually. Done just as I asked for it One thing I would mention is that if you sit outside, be prepared for a parade of smokers to share their smoke with you as you are eating...with zero regard. I totally felt like I was in their ashtray. Personally, I believe that smokers should definitely have a space for them to partake, however, I will never sit in the back again. May visit again... nice folks... pretty good pubish food. Plenty of similar options. I would add, Personally I prefer Magerks

On a Tuesday, go to Halligan's. Burgers are half-price on Tuesdays. Order a burger. Order a basket of seasoned curly fries to share with friends. Enjoy. Repeat.

I use to like the food but lately it has been very disappointing every time. Main entrees are so blah and vegetables are so bad! The broccoli was have cooked and not fresh at all! It has become a pub of just good fried bar food like chicken fingers etc... You can't mess that up but maybe they can eventually.

We stopped in here on a whim this past Saturday. It was that weird time in between breakfast and lunch where not many places are open, so we were actually going to stop in the Wawa next door to grab a snack, but saw Halligan's was open. Everyone was very nice, the hostess, our server, the bartender, etc. We were greeted and served right away. It was a little before noon so we were offered breakfast and lunch menus, as well as some blackboard specials. If there is a soft pretzel item on any menu, I am getting it! We ordered the soft pretzel bites as an appetizer, they came out as four long braids of soft pretzels with two dipping sauces, a grainy honey mustard and a chipotle cheese. Fantastic!! Hubs ordered the roast pork sandwich (minus the roasted peppers) with fries and I ordered the "Gobbler" with sweet potato fries. Loved it all! Hubs said it was the best roast pork sandwich he has ever had, tender, juicy and served with a side of real au jus. My gobbler was fresh roasted turkey, cranberry sauce and stuffing on a bun. I took the top of the bun off and ate it with a knife and fork and it was really good! Only thing missing was some gravy, I think they may have forget to give me some, but it was still great, I was dunking it in the leftover pretzel sauces. By this time I was getting really full and the sweet potato fries suffered, but I did eat a few and they were also good. Served with a creamy horseradish sauce, which I would have never thought to do, but it worked. I definitely want to come back and try some other items and hubs wants to try some of the beers on tap. Very reasonable too, all that food and two cups of coffee for about $35. We will be returning soon!

Hosted my father's funeral luncheon here and left with a horrible taste in my mouth. Had made the reservation for 60 people and made our budget clear. Got the bill at the end of the night and got charged for 85 people. They said they counted how many people came in and ate, and charged us for that. I reiterated the fact that I had only ordered food for 60 people and they never cleared the additional food with myself or any other member of the party. When I raised the issue they basically said tough luck we charged for who we counted. Completely unprofessional and disgraceful on an already horrible day. From the business we brought to the bar alone on a Saturday afternoon in February you would think they would have sucked up their mistake of not clearing the additional food orders. Please do not support this business as their lack of etiquette was disgusting.

This is a late review, I'm writing about St. Patrick's Day. We aren't interested in going out to the bars and such like we used to on St. Patrick's Day so we planned to go early enough to just get some decent food and enjoy the atmosphere. This is the furthest thing from an Irish pub I have ever been to, the food was bland and about par with an average diner, I was hoping for a traditional Irish breakfast but they didn't have the available They picked a fun Irish music station on Pandora(with the commercials) but I would think being an Irish pub they wouldn't need to go to such resources. I'll give it another try when I'm planning on just going out and screwing around but there are much better pubs in the area and in Philly then this.

Went two weeks ago on 1/2 price burger night (Tuesday). 1) Very friendly and excellent waitress. 2) No-smile hostess. 3) Burger isn't something I'd go back for. Big burger, but lacking taste. 4) Mushroom Beef Barley soup was excellent.

I think we made a mistake coming here and ordering entrees. The food was sub par at best. Would have apparently been better ordering bar food and sandwiches. The decor is awful. The service was slow but nice. We will give it another try since it is walking distance from home.

Awful, wings were raw in middle. Only went in because Scoogies & Magurks were both packed. Next time that happens ill go eat McDonalds rather than going back to that bar. Since, I've heard from numerous people Of similar incidents of bad food & description of old Drunks at bar loud and obnoxious. Which I and Wife and kids also witnessed an old ass singing About nipples & guessing woman's nipple sizes Sitting at bar, we had to listen sitting at table Dining area. Never again !

Yep, the menu still brags about the "Best Staff on the East Coast," and while our server was awesome and totally on top of things (and also very cool with our kids), the wait for dinner tonight was crazy. I was starving already - guess who forgot to eat lunch again today? - and when i see other tables that were seated after us get served faster, it sends me into a tizzy. Yes, a tizzy. But when the food did come, I totally got over it. I ordered a cheesesteak, since I was delirious with hunger, thus breaking my self imposed one-cheesesteak-a-year rule. But hot damn, I ate the hell out of that bastard. Food was flying everywhere, onions were falling out of my mouth - it was crazy food porn gone wild. The best part - there was no grease. How do you make a cheesesteak with no grease? Clearly the kitchen crew, while a bit slow tonight, is magic, thus reassuring me that their claim of "The Best Staff on the East Coast," is not bullshit.

very good. I had the shrimp in a basket. My daughter had the crab cake sliders. We were very impressed. not over priced. the waitress was right on top of us. Place appeared clean and friendly. I would recommend. A better choice than some franchise like Fridays.

Looking for dinner sat night, prime time, we're locals. Hostess eating something in the lobby when we walked in. Carpet sticky, black painted walls and harsh lighting. Thankfully seated away from what was clearly the regulars. Service was fine, food very average. We won't go back. Shame of it is this place could be great by virtue of their location and a monied crowd of locals. Two other places within five minutes of here were packed to the gills. Avoid here until, if ever, it gets a new menu and a new look.

When I was a student at Chestnut Hill College this was *the* pub for all my friends to hang out. I think that's partially why I'm giving it five stars, all the odd and good memories. We always got good food at a great price with excellent service. When I was there with friends we sat in the bar area and had a great time playing their trivia games and were regularly there to hear great live performances. I haven't stopped into Halligan's as much since graduating college five years ago, but since then I've taken my parents from Jersey there and out of town friends there and we've gotten good meals and good service in the non-bar area. I always loved their cheesesteaks and they have the *best* jalapeno poppers. It's still a nicer place to get a good meal than any of those crappy chains like Applebee's or Chili's.

This place looks like it be a cool place to hang out and I was excited to visit for the first time. I left disappointed. The food is mostly bar type food and sort of expensive. I got a burger and a beer. It was nothing special. I was really hungry and it filled the void, but thats it.

"This place doesn't skimp", so says my Dad the cheapskate. We took him and my Stepmother there a few months ago on a Monday night (cheap night)- when all of the entrees are $10.95. Since then- it is all he talks about. So, we went back tonight... We each ordered something different, and we all sampled each others food. I was too scared to order the Turkey Croquettes- but my husband did- and they were excellent! I had the Chicken Halligan- and although it was tasty, my only complaint was that there was way too much of it. My Stepmother ordered the Sheperds Pie (again scared), but this was great too! My Dad had a big lunch, so he just had the chicken salad- but that kept him happy. And folks, that is all that really matters here. That and the fact that they have a good beer selection.

Recently took 11 members of my family to Halligans for dinner. Ages of group ranged from 4 to 79 years old. Everyone in the group enjoyed their choice of food. Service was friendly and efficient. Many thanks to the Halligan's staff.

I am only giving three stars, because of previous trips to Halligans, it was based on today only - it would be a 1! Four of us went, on our lunch break - for a birthday lunch. The food took WAY too long. We were told that the cook said the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich was holding up the order and it takes 20 minutes to make. (the fact that it was 25 minutes after ordering... didn't help) We mentioned that we had to get back to work and probably would have to get the food wrapped and a check, if it doesn't come soon. This got us the check a few minutes later, shortly followed by the containers to take our food with us. but, still no food to put in the containers. When the meals came out, they were good, but it definitely does not take that long to grill a pounded chicken breast and melt cheese on it. they forgot my friends side of fries and when she reminded them, she got half a bowl. We quickly inhaled our meals, two of us wrapping half to finish later and never even got to acknowledge my friends birthday. We have eaten there several times and the time has been close before, but this was crazy and the excuse was not legitimate. I'll give them one more chance, in a few weeks, to see if there is an improvement. right now, i think the whole thing was handled very poorly. I'm in no rush to return and there are plenty of other places to go for lunch in the area.

We ate for the first and last time today at Hallihan'sPub in Flourtown, Pa. on 5-22-11. Our server, blond hair, could not keep up with her tables, food was very slow coming out and tasteless. My chickensteak was dry and rubbery and it had bone in it. Also, our server told us that pino was $5 per glass before we ordered it, yet when we got our bill it was $6. Also, when we asked our server why the woman across from us who clearly had a larger wine glass that was filled much higher than ours and it was either grigio or chard, her reply was "the glasses are different sizes but the amount of wine is the same in all". This was simply an insult to our intelligence level and that is why she received a 10% tip. Lying to a customer did not work for her in this case and we will let everyone we know of our horrific experience at your restaurant. Men's room was deplorable as well!!

Halligan's is a great little local pub in Flourtown and is one of me and my wife's go to restaurant choices when we don't feel like cooking at home. The food at Halligans is all good, although I haven't had anything really outstanding. I always have a good time and leave satisfied, and really isn't that what you're looking for in a local pub. My wife and I will continue to be regulars for as long as we're in area.

I always liked Halligan's, but now that I moved into the neighborhood I really like it! Moving is such a drag, and we were exhausted--but it was 11pm. Anyone in this area knows you can't get food at 11pm, except Wawa or 7-11, right? WRONG!!! Halligan's serves 'til 12 on SUNDAY NIGHT! 1 AM weekends. We were so happy. We had salads and Burgers and it waqs all good. It's not gastropub gourmet food, it is what it is. But for a nice, inexpensive, late-night meal, it was perfect. Nice crowd there too. I am excited to be closer to Halligan's! Try getting food in Chestnut Hill at 11PM on a Sunday.....Go Flourtown!

This place is next to our local Wawa, and after years of ignoring it we decided to stop here for a quick bite. The menu looked promising and well put together. But the food was absolutely mediocre, and we ordered fairly plain dishes. I'm not a picky eater, and I was hungry enough to eat a full meal, but I ended up picking at my salad (which was fresh-looking but flavorless) and didn't finish my French onion soup...which has never happened before, in the history of my restaurant-hopping. Cheese on top was burnt, tasteless, and rubbery, the soup itself had a strange non-food-like taste. There was something synthetic about all the food--I can only imagine that maybe midwinter food supplies for this restaurant are grown in conditions that aren't conducive to flavor. My companion had the same impression about her meal (salad, potato skins, cheesesteak). The potato skins were better, edible but nothing great. According to other reviews this is a great hangout spot, so it may be good for get-togethers where there's less focus on getting a tasty meal. We went here to avoid going, again, to Scoogi's (the somewhat boring Italian restaurant sort of across the street), but we ended up wishing we'd gone there, if only because the food is much better.

Gotta say that aside from six packs to go and a good hh special -Halligan's doesn't really do it for me. It does seem to do it for AARP - they must send out coupons by the dozen for this place. Average age is at least 72... Food is mediocre at best - used to go for lunch fairly often but haven't for years now... just wasn't worth the trip. Have had burgers, clubs, soup, cheesesteaks, tuna sandwiches... Stick to some beers and eavesdropping at the counter. ~~ I just added the third star for the trivia game... forgot about that.

Struggling to find a local spot that carries the Sunday NFL Ticket, I was referred to Halligan's. If I'm going out alone drinking and yelling at 1pm on Sunday, this is where I want to be from now on. Great staff and clientele, pretty much a bunch of local dudes out watching some football and talking sports. The bartender is happy to put the Patriots game on a TV for me even though I'm the only one in there to watch it. I haven't sampled enough of their menu to comment on their grub but they have a well-rounded beer selection.

A true highlight of my trip while staying in Fort Washington for a night. This place was a total local hangout - it was amazing to see how everyone knew each other and were talking about the rest of the town -- some juicy gossip too! I had never experienced anything like this, not even while living in the smallest town in parts of the US. The people were super friendly and would actually engage in a discussion with outsiders, the fascination of new comers into this "forbidden city" I guess. If you're ever stuck at the hotel and looking for a quick bite, hit this spot. I had a open faced buffalo wing sandwich, customized order and it turned out great. They have a very nice beer collection too.
