Having just moved from Arizona this was a big disappointment. It felt like an a very grand taco bell. I can say some positive things about this place. The food came fast and it was hot, but there was no flavor, are they even using hot peppers here? My daughter whom is 4 said daddy, this is not good mexican food. I told her I agree this place isn't going to be a landmark kitchen anytime soon in Erie. I understand this is a chain and they can only go so far out of bounds to make the food better but please try harder.

My boyfriend and I have gone here several times now hoping to find a good margarita in town after several horrible experiences at bars. The margaritas here are really delicious and fresh and if you go on Monday they are always on special! Our server, both times, was friendly and courteous. We ordered some of the cheese dip to go with the tortillas that they bring to the table. Best cheese dip ever and the server made sure to keep the baskets of tortillas coming! Really nice friendly atmosphere. Portions are huge also and the prices are good.

Tried this place at the reco of a coworker who was just through the area. Overall food quality was very good. See my pics. Hot tasty and it hit the spot for my entire family. Chimichangas, burritos and enchiladas were excellent and very filling. My wife ordered fajitas that offered a lot of food and tasted great. The letdown here was not the food - it was very good, however he service was sub par. The server took our order quickly, and was fast returning with our drinks... The food also came out very quickly.. However, once we had food he never returned. No follow ups on how he food was, drink refills etc. We sat for 15 mins surrounded by empty dishes and finally had to go to the bar to request our bill. We never did see our waiter again. This could have been a five star experience however the server really let toreros down. I urge you to give it a try... Just maybe "to go"

We where traveling to Erie to go skiing and this was on the way to are hotel. I wanted Qudoba but my husband wanted "authentic" Mexican so we stopped here. First the waiter was in a big hurry and rushed us in to ordering..with that being said I couldn't even tell you what I ordered but it was chicken with some kind of red sauce...my fiance ordered shrimp with the same red sauce. He compared his sauce to spaghetti o's minus the pasta..I had to agree and laugh a little. My chicken was swimming in the stuff I actually used some of the mushy rice to build a dam so I could at least eat some of the chicken with out all the red stuff! My husband is by far the least particular person when it comes to food but if he didn't like it then you know its no good! Very disappointed!

I was worried (as a Texan who moved to Erie, PA) that the Mexican food here would be horrible. (As a reference, I went through the drive through at Taco Bell and the person working at the time did not know what queso meant.) However, Torero's is about as authentic Tex-Mex as you can get. The rice and refried beans are extremely authentic. There is guacamole and avocado served with most entrees. Many vegetarian options as well. The food could be spicier, though.

Monday night is margarita night! House margaritas $2.99, frozen flavors $3.75. And they're tasty! There's also a Sunday-Thursday margarita happy hour from 3-6, same prices. The food was good, I got Pollo a la Crema, which is an old standby choice when I go eat mexican. Torero's version was a little less cheesy and a little more creamy than usual, but it was still delicious. The chips and salsa are as addictive as ever. I was disappointed in the guac, it was half brown when I got it, which means they used some overripe avocados, and I found some rind in it. That's just pure laziness. A tiny little side dish was $1.75 and it looked like elephant crap. The tomatoes on the side of my dish also looked kinda sickly, they were orange instead of red. However, on the whole everything was pretty good. Also important, BEST fried ice cream ever. It's legit people, they took no shortcuts. It's hard to find a Mexican restaurant that doesn't just throw some corn flakes and cinnamon on the ice cream and call it a day. Share it with a friend (or don't!), but certainly don't skip dessert. I love going out for Mexican with my in-laws. My father-in-law speaks fluent Spanish, and the waiters always perk up and are extra attentive and friendly. It's nice, but it makes me feel like my service experience was biased. But our drinks and food all came out super quickly, and I noticed that everyone in our section got a second basket of chips without asking for one, also pretty unheard of at Mexican Restaurants. So go Toreros! I'll be back for that fried ice cream one day...

We kind of laughed because this Mexican restaurant sits right next to an Americanized Mexican restaurant. To us the choice was obvious-go authentic!! We were quickly greeted and seated. Everything on the menu looked good. We checked out other people's food as it was brought out. The portions were enormous but they looked and smelled good. I ordered a chicken quesadilla. It's a pretty safe choice. My husband ordered a beef burrito. When they came to the table they were indeed HUGE. My husband's burrito was served on a big oblong plate and the burrito filled it. I don't know how but he ate the whole thing. Usually a quesadilla is one large flour tortilla and they put the fillings on half and then fold over the empty half to cover the half with filling. THIS quesadilla was a whole tortilla filled with a whole tortilla on top. I finished half. It was so good that I filled every empty spot in my tummy. Normally you get chunks of grilled chicken in a quesadilla, but this was a slow roasted pulled apart shredded chicken. It was some of the best chicken I had ever eaten. We had great food and great service. We will definitely go back.

Best Mexican restaurant in Erie We have eaten here several times. Always good food, fast service & reasonable prices. Yesterday, I had the veggie-chiladas. The seasoning & sauce was excellent. My wife had the tilapia. They served then whole fish & she said it was excellent. Although the wine choices are limited, it's good wine & inexpensive. Our entrees & 2 glasses of wine each for under $40.

My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and was greeted quickly .. We ordered two margaritas and also the Texanas Fajita .. We enjoyed everything ! They give you a nice amount of meat and also beans rice and avocado .. The queso is great as well as the salsa which I think is home made .. I'd definitely come back here again

We stopped here after hiking the Alleghenies for the weekend, and they didn't mind that we were gross and unshaved. Better still, they had $3.50 22 oz Dos Equies, and the beers were amazingly cold in a frozen glass. The standard 'Mexican Salsa w Chips' came to our table before the ladies had evne sat down (a +1 in my book). The Waiter was super nice, and didnt mind working with our moderate food restrictions. The rest of the staff were polite and kind, and the bathroom was clean. This was a typical small time Mexican place, but the food was fresh and you can tell they used 'real' ingredients like fresh Cilantro. The menu was the same as all mexican places- but that's just what we wanted. We didnt spend too much and still had leftovers. Great Place, thanks!

I've been to a hundred A-OK Mexican joints just like this. That's not necessarily a bad thing; you just need to manage your expectations. The atmosphere here feels like a chain and what a surprise, it is a small chain! The décor is better than many hole-in-the-wall Mexican joints. It's also very clean. I travel a great deal on business so I'm often alone. I like to sit at the bar to have my meal. The bar here is a joke. It's small and uncomfortable and feels like an afterthought. I can't imagine meeting friends here to have a drink. For that, there are a dozen better places within a three minute drive. The house margaritas are pre-made and are served from a giant five gallon metal container. They are cheap and forgettable. For my meal I ordered Carne Asada ($12.75). It was filets of skirt steak charbroiled and garnished with whole green onions, jalapeños, guacamole, pico de gallo, rancho beans, Mexican rice, and corn tortillas. It was served in a flash and was a large portion. And yes the plate was hot. If I'm ever served a Mexican meal on a cool plate I'll drop dead from shock! As expected it was A-OK and the price was right. If you need to fill up on cheap Mexican food these folks will get the job done. Anyone that gives this place 5 stars doesn't get out much, or has the IQ of a golf bar or both!

This place was pretty average, with your typical Mexican fare. I would probably have given it three stars if it weren't for the exceptional and friendly service, along with the freshness of the food. The margaritas were pretty good and were a great price at only $2.99. My family was satisfied with their dishes so the place delivered but don't expect to be wowed.

Let my just say their chicken taquitos from there appetizer menu is the best taquitos in Erie. You get any better. The service is quick and very accommodating. Mexican is tough when you have El Canelo and El Toro Loco around town but this is one of the top.

I've been here maybe a dozen times in the last year and each time, the food has been very good! The waiting staff has also been very attentive. By far, my favorite dish is the chile verde Macho burrito.

Honestly wasn't our first choice but found out Latinos was closed on Mondays. First the positives The service was efficient and friendly. We all started with the margarita special that arrived in small plastic cups...wasn't impressed but we laughed it off. The food was plentiful as someone else has mentioned but definitely on the bland side. Had a fun night, but that was thanks to the company. Would I come back probably not.

The worst "Mexican" food I have ever had! The waitstaff is friendly but sloppy, slow and careless. I ordered the enchiladas. They tasted terrible and were served cold. It took several mins (5+) to get the waitresses attention. I complained that the food was cold and she took it back to the kitchen. All I can say is they brought the same food fresh out of 3 mins in the microwave and a new layer of enchilada sauce. The Enchilada sauce tastes like ketchup and pico mixed together. SO GROSS! I don't know for certain of course but I would say the "shredded beef" was cat or rat. It was disgusting. Stopping at this place was a huge mistake. Alkaseltzer to the rescue -- so sick! Ugh!

Sometimes you try a restaurant and get lucky, and today was one of those days. The chips were good, the refried beans were especially good, and the fish tacos were great. Definitely not your typical tex mex.

Big fan of this place. Good food, reasonable portions, cost effective, know us by name. Excellent stuff. Price a tad high on certain things, but in my opinion tastier than other Mexican options in the city!

This restaurant has some of the best Mexican food in Erie. The margaritas are also affordable and fantastic. Carne asada is by far the best I have had in Erie. Always friendly staff, speak both Spanish and English so that is a plus. Child friendly atmosphere and they have kids eat free Tuesday and Wednesday, which is also another great bonus! The decor is very nice, bright and inviting. Seating is comfortable and provides a great view from anywhere in the restaurant. Overall a fantastic place. I stop in quite often and love it every time!

Great Mexican food we get Texakana which is shrimp steak and chicken fajitas which is more than enough for two people

The decor was nice enough; I was going to sit at the bar, but it looked extremely uncomfortable. The host took me around the restaurant until he found an empty table. That was a little annoying. The waitress came quickly enough and brought my drink, took my order and brought chips in salsa promptly. The chips were slightly warm and were okay. The tomato based salsa was thin with occasional chunks of onion and tomato. The salsa tasted okay, the consistency left something to be desired. The food arrived very quickly and the portions were generous. I had the huevos con chorizo with refried beans and Mexican rice. There was very little chorizo scattered amongst the mounds of scrambled eggs. Everything was rather bland. They provided four tortillas, which was nice. The service was okay; there was no effort to do anything but the bare minimum. Decided to drop from a 4 to a 3 on account that I would not choose to eat there again. I had eaten there a couple times before, but couldn't remember why I never went back. The purpose in writing this review is so I will remember. The food is just not that tasty. There is no reason to go back.

Great Mexican food and very good service. The margaritas are a little watered down but they have a good selection of drinks.

Don't waste your time. Although portions are generous, I would have happily cut them in half for double the quality. I had the fajita sampler plate. Bland. I don't know of any other way to put it. There was no spice to it at all. The shrimp did not taste very fresh, and the chicken and steak did little to inspire my appetite. When the guac finally came, I suppose there were avocados in there somewhere, but they certainly did not jump out at me. Honestly, Chile's fajitas blow these out of the water. Then came dessert. Hoping to console myself by ordering something that nobody could possibly screw up, I ordered Sopapillas. When I think Sopapilla, I think warm, fluffy, deep fried goodness drizzled with honey. What I got was the most bastardized version of Sopapillas that has ever been attempted. Deep fried flour tortilla covered with chocolate, whipped cream, sprinkles and a barely noticeable amount of honey. W T Freak is wrong with this place? If I was a child, I would have cried like someone ruined my birthday cake. Honestly the worst attempt at Sopapillas I have ever seen. Horchata was ok, as was the service, but the food quality and flavor is inexcusable. I hope I can find decent Mexican in this town before it's too late...

Loved this restaurant. The service was exceptional. She was so accommodating and friendly. She really knew the menu and gave her recommendations based on our preferences, which was awesome. Kudos to the waitress!! I got a Burrito and it was huge! Loved it, but could only eat half of it. Lucky me I got to take the other half home for lunch the next day! They give you unlimited salsa and chips and the servings are huge. The food is very reasonable and we received our food fairly quickly considering we had 12 people in our group, I was impressed. The drink specials here are the real deal. They don't short you what so ever. Everyone in our party was loving their margaritas! I ordered the sangria special, and it was delicious! Last words: Seconds...yes please!

I have eaten Tex Mex all over the country and for the first time can say this was the worst experience I have ever had. My first item I ordered I was told 15 minutes later wasn't available. I had to order quick because the other food was already coming out. It was horrible. There was some spice on the tacos that I can't even describe and I ate one of the three. My rice in the one bite had so much salt in it that it made me sick. My son found a hair in his salsa. My daughter found a hair in her food. We saw the waiter four times. Drinks, ordering, dropping the food off and dropping off the bill. We had to yell to him when he dropped off the bill if we could get a refill or not. The worst experience and the worst food ever. First time I left a restaurant where I had nothing positive to say ever. I wouldn't give them one star if I had my choice.

We came to Erie to check out LECOM and stopped here for dinner before heading home. The food was very good and it came very quickly. My boyfriend ordered a steak burrito and it came with much more steak inside than he expected. My chicken quesadilla was made with cheddar and Monterey cheese and lots of chicken, making it probably the best quesadilla I've had. The environment was great and it seemed like a very popular place as almost every table was full. I would definitely go back if I was in Erie again.

OMG!!! Amazing!!! Here on vacation with family. Had the Mar y Terra which had shrimp wrapped in bacon. The food has lots of flavor and the wait staff was amazing. I would totally recommend this if you are looking for real Mexican food.

I love Mexican food. My boyfriend and I get Mexican food very frequently. However this was the first restaurant of any kind where I actually walked out without eating. The food was so salty and just generally awful. It was cold by the time we got it anyways and the service was terrible. Will never go back.

Perhaps if you don't know what Mexican is supposed to taste like this place is acceptable? Skip the pain and head to Chipotle ... you'll thank me. Perhaps this is another "good enough for Erie" establishment?

Okay word association Mexican food - Erie, PA. Yeah, I was more than a little surprised to find this place in strip mall land. The menu is about six pages. I ate most of the nachos, before the wife could narrow down the choices to three. The salsa has a bite of cilantro. The pablano pepper was unbelievable, nice sauce too. The Taquito Racheros was very good. Enchiladas has very nice sauce. Guacamole was really, really good. This place is a chain, most in NC. Very nice surprise for a drive-by find.

This is place is nothing special and only mildly authentic. However, the food is pretty good and the portions are very generous for their price. So, if you're looking for a big meal that will be just enough to satisfy that Mexican craving, I would recommend coming here to eat.

My fiancé and I were really surprised to see that our favorite restaurant has such unfavorable reviews. Toreros is a rare gem in Erie. The wait staff are friendly, the service is lightning fast and the food is phenomenal. Gigantic portions and the best guacamole I've ever had. It's so hard to find restaurants in Erie that have vegetarian options worth ordering but Toreros has at least 10 meatless dishes that are all incredible. Not to mention how fresh all the ingredients they use are. We love this place and we get excited about getting to dine there.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
