It is really good experience, I ordered the "house cut" and the salad bar was so good. They are very efficient. We ordered as we entered, then by the time we got our salad and finish it, the stake arrived. Then we helped ourselves to nice Deseret bar. it was really pleasant experience

My kids love to go to Hoss's, particularly this location. My husband and I used to enjoy it but after feeling a bit iffy after the last few times we ate there, we're not so keen to go. The salad bar has lots of kid-friendly options, from chopped ham to bread to fresh fruit and includes a sundae/dessert bar. Kids also like the crane game and there is a variety of good non-carbonated beverages including punch, lemonade, milk, chocolate milk, and water. Placemats have games on the back and there are crayons on every table. The entrees are okay but tend toward being overcooked and flavorless. Steaks are the best thing on the menu and they make a very good burger (they don't ask you how you want your burger done and, depending on the cook, they could be juicy and perfect or dried and burnt. My main complaint about the food is that it's simply flavorless. This isn't unique to this location. We recently tried the Altoona location when the children begged to eat at Hoss's. The best item on Hoss's menu is their chicken soup, which is made on-site fresh daily. You can salt your soup at the table. What you can't do is turn your meat soup into chili. There's no spice or heat to the chili at all. Not a bit. It's literally tomato-y meat soup. I understand that Hoss's is catering to an older, milder crowd but when one scoops up chili, there's an expectation behind it. Unfortunately "lack of flavor" is indicative of a menu-wide problem with the chain. Your best bet for flavor is the salad bar and its variety of dressings. Other menu highlights are the garlic bread, large but thoroughly cooked baked potatoes (skip the potato soup; the large chunks of potato are practically raw), the French onion soup (croutons and cheese are beside the soup for you to assemble), and the filet mignon, which has never disappointed. The other big plus for Hoss's is its healthful dessert options like fresh fruit, yogurt, low-fat froyo, Italian ices, and angel food cake. Usual options at this location are puddings (variety), M&M brownie, Jello, and bread pudding. Hoss's always presents sugar-free varieties and labels everything well. Sauces for all of these vary but always include caramel and hot fudge. There are many toppings for the soft serve and the counter is low enough for kids to help themselves. Parking is plentiful and the parking lot is laid out in a way that keeps people from zooming through. Other pros: fast service, friendly service, clean restrooms.

9/4/2013 This is a steak and seafood place where you order your meal at the register before being seated. We got what we ordered, a couple of steaks, baked potato for one and steak and fries for the other. The potato, a bit under done. The sirloin steaks, cooked to order, were pretty good. The salad bar was like many salad bar ... a bit of a mess because of sloppy customers. It was well stocked with salad goodies.

Friendly staff and decent food. My first visit to a Hoss's Restaurant. I've had better but this dinner was good. I had the beef tips, which were tasty, baked potato was large and good. Veggies were okay. The salad bar is big and inlcudes a dessert bar, which is nice; but the food looks like it's been refrigerated or at least definitely purchased elsewhere and just served at Hoss's. A lot of people rant and rave about this place, and they are thinking they have a good spot here; but I've been spoiled with real steak houses and real fresh food. I would give it a second chance, as this was my first time at Hoss and in Altoona. It was nice that you could walk to the restaurant from the hotel.

Best salad bar in town, and best Hoss's in the state. Service is usually good, and we can usually have a complete meal in under an hour. Kid-friendly salad bar, and of course the sundae/dessert bar. Only issue is that I always eat too much!

My 8 oz steak looked like it was 4 oz. Really fatty and burnt. I think the food quality has gone down hill in the last couple of years.
