I was a little leery of the food quality based on there only being 5 reviews of the place on here, but I decided to go for it. You come up to the counter when you walk in and order. You then take the food to your table or you can get it to go. I had the pulled pork sandwich. The pork was in a sweet barbeque sauce and the pork was of very good quality. The roll or hoagie, as they called it, (definitely not a hoagie), was just OK. I feel like if they would serve this stuff on a homemade italian roll that is lightly brown and crispy on the outside, this place could be a solid five star joint. Either way though, if you're on you're on 22 and hungry, definitely worth a stop.

Quick, friendly service. Excellent barbecue. Baby Back Ribs and Chicken meat was moist, flavorful and fell off the bone. Covered seating outside and seating inside.

This was delicious! Easy to stop in, grab food and get on your way. We had baby back ribs and chicken.. and it was probably the best BBQ chicken I've ever had!

Fantastic BBQ! I had spent the last 5 months in south Georgia, so I thought I had eaten some pretty good BBQ, but Clem's puts'em all to shame! Great food, owner came to the table to see how everything was... Be even better if they served ! Check it out...be worth your time.

Going to drop them down one star from my previous review. Turns out that you can't get the beef until "later in the day". You guys are a BBQ place. Perhaps you should get it in a little earlier. Very good sweet style barbecue. Everything I have had there is very good. Pick up your plate at the counter and go. Pork is good, ribs excellent, and be sure to try the beef if they have it. Potato salad etc is ok. A little hard to get in and out of. You can only approach and leave from one direction on 22 going East.

    Great BBQ :)

Other than being a little tough to get in and out of, this is a pretty good place to eat. The workers sometimes seem a little bit irritated and aren't the most pleasant, but they aren't rude either. The food is really good though.

The ORIGINAL Clem's. This place is amazing and the standard for BBQ. You wont be displeased with whatever you get off of the menu!!!

Good BBQ. It wasn't top of the line. But I will go every time I'm in that area. It was good. The staff suggested the ribs. Good choice. Yes, fall off the bone. You had me at hello!!

Best bbq in western p.a. perfectly cooked ribs, chicken and pulled pork. A fresh cooked bun with pulled pork with the flavorful sauce and cold pepperjack cheese is downright yummy. They have a number of sides that complement too.... And dont forget the sweet potato pie.

Delicious barbecue. Small menu but enough options to satisfy. I had the boneless ribs. 1/2 lb is a large serving. I also had to try the macaroni and cheese. It was nice and creamy. My fiancé has the 1/4 rack ribs and 1/2 lb pulled pork. It was more than enough to food. We sat outside in the pavilion. Look for the obese groundhog running around!

Excellent ribs! They seem to be the best seller. This was my first time here. I got the ribs and chicken combo. Would definitely recommend and will be returning!

I pride myself in having had BBQ in 35 different states, and Clem's finishes in the top 5 for sure. This place meets all of the requirements of a great BBQ place. Moist meat, flavorful sauces, great consistency, and of course portion sizes that won't leave you hungry yet food quality that will leave you hungry for more. It's a little out of the way but that is in a way part of the appeal. If you live within 1 hour of this place it is absolutely worth the drive perhaps even farther. It's just not summer until I've had myself a pulled pork sandwich with a side of slaw from Clem's.

  • Robyn S.

Clem's is great! I've never had anything on the menu that I didn't like. The soup that they make in the winter is REALLY good too! Just a heads up: make sure if you get a sandwich for take out, you have the bun placed in a separate container or it will get soggy.

You want BBQ, You got it! Die hard fan and will keep going back for more. They have many menu items but not so much that it gets confusing.. I have strayed and tried others around but not a single one compares. The best part is if your like me and do not like dark meat, you can get just a breast with out having to buy half a chicken. I usually get a 1/2 rack and a breast drizzled with their wonderful and flavorful sauce. They also have many yummy sides like garlic mashed potato's and beans but when in season they also have delicious grilled fired corn on the cobb. They are also very reasonably priced.

The food is always excellent here and you get a lot of food for your money. Best bbq place around!

Where do I begin? This gem in our little town is home to some of the best BBQ I've ever had! My usual order is a 1/2 lb of pulled pork accompanied by a 1/4 rack of ribs and their homemade slaw. I pile the pork and slaw onto one of their fresh warm rolls and go to town! Another great thing is the staff. Always energetic, polite, and fast. Definitely an A+ place!

  • Chris G.

Awesome BBQ! Awesome sides. Great sauce. Their rolls are so good I stop by just to buy them to serve with dinner that night!

Best short ribs on the planet. All they need is beer and I'm in for life. Excellent!!

    (5)
  • Jason L.

Best BBQ in the state of Pennsylvania. I can't resist stopping every time I pass the place. If only they had a spicy sauce, I'd never leave!

  • Ira S.

This BBQ was the worst I've ever had! ...and I have eaten BBQ all over the USA. The rack of ribs were just dumped on a styrofoam plate then dowsed with sauce. They should have just left the ribs in the back and served a glass of sauce. Just a bunch of young kids working, with little to no care for the product. As for the sides, the Mac and Cheese was like paste and the cole slaw was watery and really nothing special.

    (2)
  • Clinton H.

BBQ was delicious! We almost got there too late, but managed to try a little bit of everything. The BBQ Beef was tender and juicy. The sides were also good, especially the slaw. What I found to be fairly unique is the cafeteria style. You walk up, tell them what you want, pick it up, pay for it, and seat yourself. The menu is small, but efficient. You want to get there early because by 6:00 pm, they were just about out of everything. Definitely worth the trip.

If you like ribs with meat that falls off the bone, home cooked side dishes and an owner that looks like Tim McGraw, Clem's is the joint for you. Amazing food, excellent service. We wish we lived closer!

  • Pamela L.

4 years living in the south and never had BBQ this good! We had the most amazing lunch here today en route to the East Coast-off the beaten path and WELL worth it! We had fall-off-the-bone ribs, chicken, pulled pork, rolls, mac n cheese, cole slaw and to top it all off the tastiest sweet potato pie-it all was true to its slogan-"Bad to the Bone" without question. We left equipped with another meal to share with family when we reach our final destination. Thank you to 'the very special man' who introduced us to this place!

  • Lizelle A.

The best in Blairsville! I live nearby and love how whenever I drive by I can smell them smoking the meats. This barbecue is the most tender and tastiest pork you'll ever have. We've had friends come up from the south and they said this is just as good or better than the bbq in Virginia or Tennessee.

Love, Love, Love this place! We've been stopping here since it was located on the other side of the road. I don't eat pork so I can't judge the ribs, but I love bbq beef (typically brisket) and even the occasional chicken. Though really, if there is bbq brisket available are you really going to order chicken? I did have the chicken at Clem's once (when they were out of brisket) and while it was good, it wasn't anything special. The brisket on the other hand, wow! Absolutely the best bbq brisket within 100 miles of Pittsburgh. I've been to some places in the Carolinas that are every bit as good, but that's a long way to drive for a meal. The sides are good, but frankly not better than available elsewhere. You are going for the bbq. If you are in a hurry, you can even get a bbq sandwich for the road. Though I would warn you, if you are eating it and driving, you are going to end up with bbq sauce on you. A small price to pay for the delicious meal. This has been a stop we've made whenever we are traveling on Route 22. Fortunately, I now have a kid at Penn State so that trip is made more frequently. I try to time the trips so I can make a stop at Clem's either on the way there or the way back. My only complaint is they close at 7:00 PM which means that if I'm on the way back, say after a football game, I'm going to pass by Clem's at 8:00 or 9:00 PM, I'll be jonesing for some bbq brisket, and I'll be out of luck.

Outstanding BBQ! Their ribs are literally fall off the bone with a sweet BBQ sauce and plenty of smoke flavor, The chicken is good, although the breasts get a little dry (but the sauce balances that out well) For a treat get the fresh baked bread to mop the sauce up when you are done. They are a little spendthrift but worth every penny. If you're cruising out Rt 22 I highly recommend a stop in!

I have a confession to make about this place. For years I have sped past here while criss-crossing the highway commuting from here to there without giving this spot a second thought. I even remember the old location before the widening of the road. Now I can say, without a doubt, that I should kick myself in the behind. Why did I shun this place? Sticking my nose up in the air thinking that this food wouldn't satiate my need for some beefy barbecue. When I finally did come here and order some heaven I think I may have literally gone to heaven. I ordered myself a pulled beef sub with a side of their mac n cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. To say I was blown away is by far the biggest understatement I could have ever said. This was the most mouth watering pulled beef I have ever had. Placing it on that homemade roll was so good. The sauce they make in house has the right mix of sweet and spicy that I should have just got some of that to bring home and put on top of literally everything I would eat. The mac n cheese was the right amount of cheesiness and the portion could have been bigger for me, only because I wanted more, not because it wasn't enough. The garlic mashed potatoes were the perfect consistency with a bit of lumps in it. Truly making it a homemade delicacy. The staff here are super to deal with. They were so fast and efficient that my wait time was near zero. So polite as well, made for a pleasant experience. I will definitely have to stop here more often, especially in the warmer months, if not for anything else but to smell the amazing meat cooking.

I almost missed Clem's tonight because it's been awhile since I've been there and I was used to the old location, which was pretty much a shack on the side of the road. There was a palpable sense of panic in the car as we raced back. To say that Clem's is the best BBQ in the area is like noticing the sky appears to be blue. Let's go beyond that- it's the best I've ever had in my life! Menu is simple- pork and chicken. If there's beef, I haven't tried it. Even the non-BBQ lovers will think they have gone to culinary heaven since all meat is available without the sauce, but without the smoky goodness. If you live within an hour and haven't tried Clem's, put it in your list this summer. The cafe is cute, but we always bring ours home. There aren't many places that are must-sees when I go home, but Clem's is one of them.

Simply incredible. Lives up to the hype and exceeds expectations. If you put a giant pig surrounded by flames on your roof, you better be good at what you do... And they are. Phenomenal. Get the pulled pork and 1/4 rack.

Clem's has THE BEST ribs, they literally fall off the bone. Also, the garlic mashed potatoes are delicious! They're quick and not stingy at all with the portions.

I've been going to Clem's for years as a road trip pit stop thanks to a friend who first introduced me. Trying to decide what to get is always the hard part since I know whatever I do order will satisfy my craving. The menu is simple BBQ: ribs, pork or beef. I think they have chicken, too, though I've never tried it. I've had the ribs and several of the sides including the beans, cole slaw and garlic mashed potatoes. But my go-to winner has always been the pulled pork sandwich on that deliciously soft roll with shredded peper jack cheese. Clem's has improved service since expanding awhile back. They do a brisk business for lunch but since some people get their orders to go I've never seen it overly crowded. They are not open very late, so check hours before you make the drive. For me, that's about an hour. Which is really the only reason I deducted a star. I'm drooling now just thinking about this great BBQ. I think that means it's time I plan a trip to see an Altoona Curve game so I have an excuse to stop by Clem's on the way.

Hands down - The best ribs I ever had ! Very meaty, tender perfect rub and sauced just right ! Going to make a special trip just to get some over winter ! Then again for Thunder in the Valley.

The food is excellent. All of the food aside from the obvious (pasta, pie, rolls) is gluten free, too. It has the typical bus-your-own table style of most barbecue places, but the staff keeps it clean. My only complaint is that the bathroom isn't always the cleanest when the restaurant gets busy.

Mmmmmmm! So good! Quick service and a rustic atmosphere. Rhe BBQ sauce was tangy. I've passed this place a few times wanting to stop in. Ill make sure I always do when up this way.

Once upon a time there was a healthy young man named Joe. He was a foodie back when there were no such things as foodies and because of his upbringing, family gatherings centered around the dining room table and day long feasts. Then one day a searing pain caused him much discomfort and an evil doctor declared he must change his eating habits and the young man stopped eating creatures. But, before this life changing event took place, long before he took much medication to control cholesterol, he was driving in God's country, past Wall Pa, he came across a little shack called Clem's. it indeed was a shack, but wonderful smells emanated from the tiny house. The smell of smoked meats! The man was happy and he parked his vehicle in the places provided. Once he stepped foot inside, his eyes filled with tears of joy! Wonderful, large pieces of beef, pork, chicken, beans, slaw and other food stuffs were offered to him. He ordered brisket, beans, pork, chicken, and slaw. He devoured the plate of food in front of him. The pork was smokey, sweet, and crunchy, almost like meat candy. No need to bury that flavor with house BBQ sauce. The brisket, well marbled, juicy, a nice bark of dry rub coating the outside, smoke ring inside, you can tell this hunk of beef had been smoked for hours. The chicken was juicy and well smoked, almost tasting of turkey. Delicious! The slaw was not sickeningly sweet like most slaws can be. A tad bit sour to cut the sweetness of a little BBQ sauce to compliment the chicken. The beans were cooked in the smoker, slathered in the BBQ sauce and the drippings from the other smoking meats allowed to drip into the pans of legumes. These should be illegal! It was all washed down with a delicious Dad's Root Beer. The man left Clem's to finish his journey, sadly watching the tiny shack disappear in his rear view mirror as he traveled away. Then, he thought about dinner, knowing he would pass Clem's on his journey home!

Bbq is decent, have to say I've heard a lot about this place and was underwhelmed. We ordered pulled pork/ribs combo and the famed pulled pork and pepper jack sandwich with slaw. Ribs were better than the pulled pork, and honestly the coleslaw was nearly the highlight. Atmosphere was... bizarre. Not unfriendly, just had no substance, I felt like I was eating at McDonald's. Disappointed, can't say I would hurry back anytime soon.

[ok, here's how to get a review removed, insult a divorcee and muffler queens] this is an A-OK 3 star place. the food is pretty good, ifn you like bbq, n I do. what is not nice is the snarky attitude if you ask if they are related to the Clems in State College. the temperature goes down too far too fast for their 'no, it's just named after a pig named 'Clem'" to be believable. And it's not pleasent. So unless you want to troll them, don't ask. The menus are completely different, the sides are completely different, and the quality is, well, ok, look at the menus, etc., they are too close for this to be chance. and, oddly enough, Clem in State College was married to Kathleen Andrews, who seems to be related. Just sayin. As for bike parking, if you mean the poor misinformed souls who don't know the acoustics literature about how low sounds are hard to localize and if you hit them the motorists are happy? yes, there is bike parking. If you mean the poor mislead souls who would ride a push bike to this Clems? there is not and should not because it's a four lane divided highway you should not be riding on anyway. oh, I can and do go back. And, perhaps you should troll them.

So my fiancé and I finally made it to the mythical Clem's yesterday. The reason that I say mythical is that this is attempt number 3 or 4 for us since they are not open on Mondays and close at 7 on other days. The outside of Clem's is easily recognizable on 22 with the giant pig riding the motorcycle on top. Since we got takeout I did not get to see any of the dining area but the area that we ordered in was clean with wooden walls. Whenever we arrived there was a decent line of people with a younger gentlemen helping them out. A few minutes later an older gentlemen in a black leather cowboy hat came over to help telling the younger one that he needed to be friendlier to the customers since they paid the bills. Now the younger guy wasn't being being bad by any means but didn't have the charm and conversational skill of the older guy. For our takeout we decided on the pint of beef, pint of Mac and cheese, awesome chili (it's name) and a combo with a 1/4 slab of ribs and 1/2 lb pulled pork. My favorite part of the meal ended up being the BBQ sauce and the ribs. The sauce was both sweet and tangy and after trying it I can understand why they sell it by the quart. Meanwhile the ribs were super tender and literally fell off the bone with only minor prodding while tasting good although I do feel like they were missing some smokiness. Of the rest of the items that we ordered I thought that the pulled pork and chili (very meaty) were good while the beef and macaroni and cheese were average at best. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. My fiance and I certainly got a large amount of food for a good price and I thought that most of the food was pretty good too.

My family and i just eat at clems in blairsville and it was definitely not what i was expecting. I chose the half pound of boneless ribs and a side of mac and cheese. Well the bonless ribs and bbq sauce was good. The mac and cheese was good too. My wife got the sausage under the specialty area. And well guess what sause was on it? Bbq sause. The sausage was dry and was a lot of it. They dont have any kids meal section of their short menu. So she ended up with a chicken leg and garlic mash potatoes. NO GRAVY just garlic mash potatos. She liked the chicken leg. But all of us agreed that the garlic mash potatos should of had a more mash potato and less garlic. I thought this was gonna be a resturant style eating atomispher. Wow way off it was more like mcdonalds. Go up get ur food and take a seat or take it home. Oh but its a little worse. The plates for the food were all stirophome so for me it gave me flash backs of bad reunions. I was suprised i didnt see any "congrats grad" plates from the doller store maybe they dont know that they are on sale rate now.

Clems is truly one of a kind...the bbq chicken & ribs platter at a little over $9 is the best deal and most flavorful bbq anywhere!! The sauce really is the boss here!

After searching for over two years for a solid (or better of course) BBQ joint near Pittsburgh I had to stumble upon Clem's out in Blairsville. I will start off by saying that I was extremely dissapointed that they don't offer burnt ends or just regular brisket, but I guess I can deal. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with mac 'n' cheese and baked beans. The pork was moist, the BBQ sweet and smokey, in fact some of the better BBQ sauce I have ever had. The roll was obviously fresh baked, and perfect, perfectly soft on the inside and just hard enough on the outside so it didn't fall apart. The baked beans were very tasty, not as sweet as some I've tried and that is fine with me... The mac 'n' cheese was just okay; really they just tasted like Stouffers... All in all this place was above and beyond any BBQ joint I've tried in W. PA (yes, better than Union Pig... by a long shot). I just wish it were closer, but then again, maybe that is a good thing.

I'm a vegetarian. And I ate at Clem's. No, no, no... I didn't convert to a meat eater after some great pilgrimage to the place. Let me explain myself: I was a Penn Stater from the Pittsburgh area, who on my trips back and forth to school would stop at Clem's in Tyrone. I'm assuming that this Clem's is owned by the same people, but please forgive me if I am wrong. Anyway, this was before I was a vegetarian. I would always get the pulled pork sandwich and put some coleslaw on top of it (I know that sounds weird, but that's something us Pittsburghers do). I LOVED it. Fast forward a couple years: I've moved to Las Vegas and am now meat-free. As much as I love being veg, one of the things I miss the most is barbeque. It is impossible to find anything like it (good, anyway) as a vegetarian. Goodbye, delicious barbeque sauce. *Sniff* So, on my first trip back to Penn State since I had graduated, I made a stop at Clem's. Fortunately, there weren't a lot of people around because they probably would have thought my husband and I were nuts (as I'm sure you will as you read this). We went in and ordered a bunch of sides. At the last second, I ordered some rolls too. The girl at the counter gave us a look as if to say, "Seriously? You just want a roll?" Yes, ma'am, that is all... So we sat down to our feast of side dishes and I started to wish for some of that amazing barbeque sauce. Hubby goes and asks for some. Well now what? Just dunk the bread? After some deliberation, we made some sandwiches of our own. A roll with garlic mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and barbeque sauce. Don't judge- desperate times call for desperate measures. It may not have been the pulled pork sandwich of my yesteryear, but it was super tasty and helped nix my bbq craving. In my vegetarian opinion, it was incredible. The barbeque sauce- amazing. The roll- super yummy. The coleslaw- great. The mac n cheese- my least favorite of everything but still really good. The garlic mashed potatoes? They are the stuff dreams are made of. To finish the meal we got a slice of the sweet potato pie and it was so good. So, if this place can manage to get their side dishes spot-on delicious, I can only imagine that their barbeque is out of this world. Would I go back and make my veg sandwich again? You betcha. But if it happened to be a super busy Saturday night I would probably get it to-go to avoid the strange looks...

Pulled Pork fantastic. My only issue was they put some type of water, drippings or a mixture of both in the pork which was way too much as it made parts of my bun soggy and it had a case of the dribbles each time I picked it up to take a bite. I would definitely come back to this place though as the flavor was great. The prices were very reasonable too. Potato salad just OK, it needs some flare. Maybe they should put some dribbles in there? :) The sauce they use on the pulled pork is awesome. Not super busy for lunch when I came, which is probably why the say the atmosphere is quiet, but I don't think that speaks negatively of the food. Try the root beer they stock, it's pretty good. I was tempted to try the birch beer....

It's hard to put into words just how good this place really is. If you haven't been there before, stop what you are doing and go wait for them to open. Their barbecue is simply amazing and you have no idea what you are missing. It's a no frills, take what they are cookin type place but if you stop in they will truly spin your head. The boneless ribs are my favorite with a little Mac-n-cheese and coleslaw to keep me from going into meat shock but everything on the menu is awesome. My wife and I went this weekend for takeout and I immediately crushed half a pound of ribs upon setting the bag down on my kitchen counter. It held me off for the remaining 30 minutes until we "officially" ate but I probably devoured close to a pound more in addition to some Mac and slaw. Their food is really all that and well worth any drive to get there. P.s. Get there early, once they sell out of what was cooked for the day...you're bummin until they open back up. Enjoy!

No smoke flavor at all in pork or ribs. Food is not bad, per se, but it is not what I think of as barbecue. They have a pit, but There is never any smell of wood fire or anyone working in pit. I am guessing, from the amount of water in the meat that they are boiled and then seared off, not smoked. As further evidence to this, there is no pink "smoke ring" present in any of the meat. Pulled pork seems to be reheated. Again, the food is good, but it is not true BBQ. I
