We are lucky enough to live right around the corner from Christine's Creekside Inn. Last evening we took my Mom there to celebrate her 81st birthday. The atmosphere was wonderful; quiet, relaxing with soft jazz playing in the background. Our waitress was a sweetie and made sure everything was just right. The entrees were perfect in every way. It's hard to recommend one above the rest because we have never been disappointed with any of the food we have ordered in the past. Kudos Chef Doug! Mom even got a candle in her dessert :). If you are looking for a noisy, fast paced, shiny, chrome plated eatery please do not come to Christine's Creekside Inn. But if you enjoy a relaxing dinner in a restored stone mill surrounded by people who take pride in their establishment this is the place for you.

I know this location has received some tough reviews but I have been at this place at least 10 times and have not had a bad meal yet. Stuffed flounder and the crab cake meal are my fav dishes I really like the menu and the waitress staff is very nice and friendly. This place is one of my fav places to go in the winter as the view of the creek is very pretty. I wish it would have a deck. Outdoor seating would be great.

I have had Christine's Creekside Inn on my "to try" list for some time now. We haven't been there mostly because of its location. It is in a beautiful, but out of the way, location. We just don't get out that way much. When a friend said he'd found a nice Groupon for Christine's, we were on our way! As I mentioned, the location is beautiful! The building is old and rustic, which is nice and quaint. When you walk in, it is a little confusing but once you walk up the stairs the hostess is right at the top - so no need to figure out the disjointed dining room, bar, dining room set up. They got it. We were seated in the larger room which overlooks the creek. Thus the name... It is a nice view, but the dining room is very loud. There isn't much to be done about it, it is what it is. But if you want a slightly quieter dinner, you might ask to be seated in the front dining room. We ordered their appetizer sampler which featured steak bites, chicken and mushrooms. It was delicious - but could have been a little larger for the price. For our entrees; my wife ordered the chicken francaise, I ordered the chicken marsala and my friend ordered the steak diane. The wait for our food was long... and we had our 2 year old with us. This is a god time to mention that the servers were very good and attentive. They took a moment every so often to stop and say hi to our little guy which helped keep him entertained enough to not lose his little mind during the long wait for our dinner. Once the food arrived, it was easy to see that the kitchen does a nice job. The food looked appetizing and smelled yummy. My friend's steak was done just the way he asked it (just this side of still mooing) and his report of it was positive. He said the sauce could have been more flavorful, but he wasn't complaining. My wife enjoyed her chicken, and I stole a bite and can concur that it was good. But it could have used a touch more sauce. My chicken marsala was prepared in a light, broth based sauce. I prefer the reduction method of preparing chicken marsala that make the sauce thicker and with a deeper flavor. So, while it was not what I like, for what it was it was fine. Next time, I'll order something lese. Which brings us to the big end, would we go back? Sure we would. The experience was positive and the food was good. The issue is the cost. It was a $150 dinner without our Groupon (with the groupon it was about $75 I think). I don't have $150 dinners very often, but if I am planning one I'll consider Christine's. If we get another Groupon, we will certainly. go. If you liked my review and would like to read more, or are interested in my novels please visit me at bruceasarte.com !

Restaurant has a nice, American traditional, borderline colonial era look to it....until they must have run out of gold-framed artwork and decided to slap a Marilyn Monroe and another modern poster on the right wall as you look toward the creek. If you go, reserve a creek view table. Fireplace is nice and cozy looking and adds to the atmosphere. We had dinner on Civil War weekend, which provided enjoyable, interesting musical entertainment, albeit hard to enjoy over the noise in the room. I think the noise was coming from the kitchen..very distracting. Bread in the form of a dinner roll was delivered hot and fresh in a basket lined with a dirty (hopefully just stained and not continuously re-used) white linen napkin. Bread was delicious! Appetizers...coconut shrimp was literally a dry shrimp with coconut shreds on top. Edible but not special. App trio we chose had stuffed mushroom (yummy), steak strips which is actually two bite size morsels of meat (also yummy), and chicken veronique..tasted like chef boy r dee chicken out of a can, in a cream sauce that tasted like it was tainted with charcoal grill lighter fluid, and halved grapes. I say "neh neh" to that concoction. Hot washcloths for our hands were delivered at some point prior to eating and they were fresh and much cleaner than the linen in the bread basket. Crab cakes...I'm somewhat of a crabcake perfectionist and these had very little jumbo lump meat, mostly the stringy meat (from a can?) but overall good flavor and one would have been plenty for me. $25 for two. My hubby had Chicken Christine and he ate it but it was nothing to write home about. The two chicken breasts on his plate seemed very plain and slippery/rubbery. I did not like the texture at all. ?never ate chicken like this before. The mustard sauce was "ehh." A friend next to me had chicken marsala and spaghetti...she was not impressed. Another couple had chicken fricasse, french onion soup, and chicken pot pie soup which they were pleased with. The food was edible, but i feel the prices are too high for the product. Waitress did not check back on guests to refill drinks. We were thirsty. We had a group of about 10 people, some needing separate checks. Two of us had coupons and the waitress told us she would allow it this time, but only one coupon is allowed per table. (It was separate checks so had we all sat separately, we could all have used coupons). Not to mention 18% gratuity is charged on any party size, and the servers couldn't even keep drinks filled. I'm normally a large tipper (greater than 20%) but this just turned me off. The waitstaff seemed busy and overworked although they were very pleasant. I dislike places that charge too much for crappy food, force you to pay 18% for mediocre service, and want to nickel and dime you after they chose to put coupons ads in the paper. The atmosphere and view could really bring in a good crowd...i would tell the owners to work on sound proofing the kitchen and finding a new chef. I do not plan to visit again.

Please dont go to this restaurant if you have restaurant.com certificate. You will get smaller portions tougher steaks and 4 ounce Margaritias and lousy service. I called and left 2 messages at this restaurant for the owner to call me back before I wrote this review. They take all kinds of coupons but make so many rules that the coupons are close to useless. Its a Creekside Inn but we were not allowed to sit in the nice dining room with the creek view.We were told that a wedding was in there. We got there at 745pm and left at 9pm there was no wedding in that room and on a Saturday night only 4 tables in the back dining room without the view. They had signs all over that 18% gratuity was automatically added the bill with restaurant.com . That is totally against restaurant.com rules. They did not care. My drink was about 4 ounces not in a margarita glass. My 12 ounce steak was about 8 ounces and tough and over cooked.with the coupon the bill was almost $55. As soon as we ordered our waitress said if we ordered what we originally wanted we would not make up the $50 total we needed. Most times you order what you want and if short order dessert. This place cares more about how much you spend then how happy you are with the food .It just really upsets me when management wont even talk to me or try to rectify my complaint. Also no signal in this restaurant so you cant even use your dell phones

Do not waste your money!!!!! My husband and I ate here using a restaurant.com gift certificate and still ended up spending a lot of money on really terrible, bland food. The building has great potential.... but the service, decor, menu and food was awful.

Definitely the worst meal in a restaurant my wife and I ever experienced. We could not even go back if it was free. You might want to check out reviews on the other sites for a more realistic opinion.

My husband Mr. Monk and I ate here this past week on a Thursday evening. We had heard of it about a year ago from a client who said it was a great atmosphere. I was reminded of this restaurant when I saw it in the Clipper Coupon magazine offering Buy One Entree Get One Entree up to a $14.95 value. Well we decided we would try it out so we called to get directions. It is off the main road a bit but the atmosphere when we first arrived was beautiful. We walked in the door and waited for about 5 minutes- no one in sight and I mean no one. We figured the two other cars in the lot must have been employees or something. A young lady came out and apologized for our wait - she was very friendly and seated us by the window. I have to say the dining room is very inviting with the candles in the window, white and burgundy linens on the table, high ceilings with wood beams. I was surprised that the fireplace was not lit on a cold November evening . . . I was also surprised that the little candles on each table were not lit -we asked for ours to be lit and our served took care of it right away. If it were my restaurant I would definitely make use of the fireplace and candlelight . . . Our menus came and we were told about the specials. I am a vegetarian these days and I have to say there was really nothing on the menu I could eat other than fish so I went with the crab cakes. My husband decided to try the Veal Schnitzel. One thing I have to point out is that not ONE item on the menu was listed at $14.95. If you are going to promote a buy one get one free at a $14.95 value you really better have at least one item on your menu that is listed at that price. My crabcakes were $25. I started the meal with soup - a potato and leek soup - it was good. My huband tried the French Onion Soup - he said his was good as well although the onions were really large - they were tender. Entrees arrived - my crab cakes which were promoted as jumbo lump no filler cakes were good but definitely not all crab. I have had much better than these but I will say they were flavorful. My salad was just basic iceberg and romaine served with a Balsamic. It was fine. Side choices were spaghetti, green and yellow beans, baked potato or steak fries. I asked if the beans were fresh and was told they were frozen. Opted for the baked potato which was fine. I had a glass of wine which was about 5 oz - $7 a glass - the pricing was not listed on the wine menu so being a lush it quickly added up to $21. My husband's dinner was good but he also said he has had better . . . It's a shame because it is really a lovely setting and the one employee we met was very sweet and helpful. I also noticed in the Clipper that this place has Happy Hour from 5 - 7pm - but not a soul in the bar area. In fact I'm not sure the lights were even on there . . . . of course if there are no customers why would they staff that space. I would go back and maybe try it one more time. The music that was piped in was wonderful . . . and again that fireplace would have been a great addition had it be on - not sure if it is gas or wood. Also, the menu had an authentic Vitello Tonnato listed - a specialty I enjoyed in Italy prior to my vegetarian days - it's very specifically Northern Italian and I was impressed. It was surprising that we went out for a dinner with a BOGO coupon and ended up spending $80 on dinner lol. Just be aware there are no $14.95 entrees or at least there were none last Thursday. I wish them luck!

This place is HORRID. We just got back. Website says they can make anything vegetarian (I am vegan but my husband and daughter are not). Everything on menu had meat. They made me plain white pasta with some kind of old crappy tomato sauce, onions and peppers for $17. Veggies were frozen in a bag. My husband had a $32 seafood platter where he wouldn't eat the fish because it was a pile of broken up blech. My daughter had orange kraft macaroni and cheese, half frozen chicken, and wouldn't even eat the chocolate cake which was made from 2 frozen brownies with ice cream in the middle. It took the waitress 30 minutes to get us checked out from the time we asked for the bill. The place was almost empty.$100 for horrid food and service. If you live in Berks County, go to Lancaster to John J Jeffries. We were there a few weeks ago and it WAS AMAZING and FABULOUS and WONDERFUL! Christine's creekside in in Birdsboro is HORRID HORRID HORRID. No QUALITY in their ingrediants. They even WATERED down the vinegar in my salad. Food is bland, processed, and prepackaged. Chef must be on work release from a local prison. No 3G cell service either so you can't tweet the horror of the food and service.

I found Christine's from Groupon and thought it looked like a nice place to try. We went last Saturday and although we read horrible reviews, were pleasantly surprised. I called to make a reservation and the girl was very sweet. When we arrived there were at least 6/7 tables filled with people and the staff was extremely attentive. We had a seat overlooking the creek and it was a beautiful night. I had onion soup and house salad to start and Chicken Francaise with spaghetti for my entree. All were tasty and the portions were ample. My boyfriend started with bacon wrapped shrimp and house salad and had the Rainbow Trout special with vegetables. The bacon wrapped shrimp were small [but that seems to be common in some restaurants in PA this time of year] and there were only 4. I would suggest there be at least 6 if they are that size and more bacon. He seemed pleased with the remainder of his meal. The bill was around $65 [including drinks] and felt it was fair. Overall, it was a nice evening out and we were pleasantly surprised.

Will not go back to this place because of the food and the service. The building/location was very nice, but the food is below average and over priced. We went because we had a gift card and also a coupon from restaurant.com . They said we couldn't use both, because they don't accept more than one discounts at a time. I asked the server how much it costs for a $50 gift card and he responded $50, I then had to ask where the discount was. He didn't have an answer and either did the owner, but he still wouldn't let me use a coupon with my gift card. With this type of service it was no wonder we were the only people in the restaurant on a Saturday night.

This restaurant is a cute little place out in the middle of no-where. The building was originally a mill established in the late 1700's. Then it was converted into a knitting mill in the early 1900s and later, during Prohibition, it was used as a "Speakeasy". So there's lots of history to this place. There are basically two dining areas - a smaller room near the bar and a huge room with large windows along the entire wall that overlooks the creek. The larger room by far has the most personality and wow factor. It has a very nice look to it with burgundy trim and a large fireplace. It was in this larger room that we dined. My wife and I dined here on a Saturday night. The meal came with warm rolls and butter. We both got sodas to drink, regular cola for me and diet cola for my wife. Surprisingly this ended up being a major upset for both of us. The sodas had a REALLY strange/off taste to them, especially my wife's diet. I don't know what they're doing or using for soda but what ever it is they should change it. For appetizers we ordered the mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat and the soup of the day which was a shrimp and corn chowder. The stuffed mushrooms were ok but surprisingly lacking in flavor for being crab stuffed. I also thought they were on the small side considering there were only 4 of them (size wise we're talking just a little bigger circumference than a quarter) . The shrimp and corn chowder was very good. We got salads to go with our meals and the salad greens were very fresh and the dressings were tasty. For my entree I had the Veal Marsala and my wife had the steak Alexander which consisted of sirloin medallions over a bed of red onions and confit sauce. We both enjoyed our meals. I found my veal dish to be very fresh tasting and one of the better veal marsala dishes I've had in a while. My wife enjoyed her steak dish too though she did find quite a bit of fat and gristle in the meat. For dessert we ordered the chocolate lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Along with the strange taste of the sodas this was the other misstep of the evening. Chocolate lava cake should be hot and when pierced the chocolate sauce should ooze out of the cake like well, like lava. This cake was hot and yet the "lava" was a congealed lump on the top and inside of the cake that didn't ooze at all and had the consistency of very firm pudding. We could have used a lot more vanilla ice cream to give this dessert a lift. It wasn't horrible but it was by far the poorest example of a chocolate lava cake that I've ever had. Service was very friendly and attentive. This restaurant has some really good things going for it, it just appears to me that they have a few things that need to be ironed out to take it to that upper level.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
