Server was very friendly and restaurant was clean. Food was so so. Pancakes were not good. Very dry. Turkey sandwich was fine, but nothing special. Not so sure I would go back again.

The early bird gets the fresh donuts and other pastries. When I travel down I-78 east toward NYC/East Coast...this place is 1950's rustic. Lunch is okay, but breakfast is the time to come. It seems that the best servers are there in the morning as the place is full almost every single day....the cooks know how to cook eggs, pancakes, sausage, and other breakfast fare. For a good bite to eat on the go, you won't go wrong here.

This is perhaps the worst diner I've ever eaten at. Usually, one can count on at least a decent breakfast at a diner. The breakfast I ordered, pancakes and eggs, was horrible. The pancakes were so tough and "rubber like", I could barely cut them. This diner can't even get a simple breakfast right. Judging from previous Yelp reviews, other dishes as well. Can't believe they have been in business since the 1950's. Guess they're the "only game in town."

This place used to be decent. My steak was cold, side dishes came out at least 10 minutes after the entrees, I ordered my steak medium... shoe leather

As long as you kept your order simple, it was good food. Anything too extravagant off the menu is met with mixed results. Nice people, slow service.

Service friendly. Nice open atmosphere. Right off highway. They give you rolls to begin which are good. Nothing surprisingly awesome. Tuna salad wrap was ok. Kids spaghetti was ok. Shrimp basket ok. Hamburger basket ok. Prices ok.

I wanted to love this place since everything was homemade but it was just ok. The grilled cheese was fine but tasted very little of cheese. The apple fritters and fried mushrooms were fine but tasted frozen. The chocolate cake and strawberry pie tasted homemade but, well, weren't all that amazing. The staff was extremely friendly.

I had never heard of the Midway Diner until last July when my boyfriend made a move to Bethel. After months of passing it to get to his house, I finally decided I wanted to give it a try. I always enjoy diners as they generally have good food and good prices, too, so I was excited to test this one out. A few days later, on a rainy afternoon, my boyfriend and I headed over to the diner for a late lunch. Mistake. As soon as we walked in we were disappointed. It looked run down, dirty and was poorly lit. We decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt and still order lunch. Bigger mistake. I ordered chicken tenders and french fries, and my company got the roast turkey sandwich with a side of fries as well. We got our meals about 15 minutes after we ordered and were thoroughly displeased. My chicken tenders were spongey and lacked the flavor of chicken. Although my boyfriend ordered the roast turkey sandwich, he ended up with a roast beef sandwich that was discolored and so dry that he had trouble swallowing without a drink of water. The best part of our trip to the Midway Diner was leaving. Aside from all the negative, we did have a very nice waitress. I encourage you to avoid this diner by all means. The gas station down the road has better food.

The Midway Diner was a great place to stop for breakfast on our way to Yuengling Brewery and Roadside America. Great service, great food, great price. I opted for one of the breakfast specials (smoked pork chop and eggs). I find that I'm not completely satisfied with a breakfast if it comes on just one plate. Midway did not disappoint. My eggs (sunny side up), home fries and toast were presented on one plate and the pork chop on its own. Followed by, to my surprise, another egg on its own separate plate. Our waitress's explanation: "She felt bad in the kitchen because the yolk broke on one of your eggs." It did not matter to me since I normally just dunk my toast in the "dippy eggs." But the gesture brought my breakfast to a three plate meal and the extra egg at no charge was much appreciated. I was very excited by my breakfast before I even tried it. But of course the pork chop was beautifully smoked and a delicious compliment to my three eggs and home fries. As with many places along the turnpike, Midway has an odd collection of items for purchase near the register. Including our favorite, the Lotto Angel. I've deducted one star only because I was looking forward to a homemade donut only to be told they didn't have any. My guess is the donuts are only made on the weekends and not a random Tuesday just for me. But by the time I finished the rest of my breakfast I nearly forgot all about it. Nearly.

The place is fine, pretty much what you'd expect from a roadside diner. That said, I have some thoughts. 1. When you allow customers to "upgrade" from chips to fries, maybe explain that the fries will come smothered in gravy. 2. Allow the parent of a 3 year-old to order a beverage for the child. Don't ask (in front of the child) if said child would "like" chocolate milk. 3. If you're a female employee cleaning out a mens' room, maybe place a sign on the mens' bathroom door that you're in there. Or better yet, leave the door open. Other than these things: the service was as friendly as can be, and my turkey club was crispy and delicious. And yes, despite my wife's protestations, the gravy fries were amazing.

I've been here a couple of time and its nothing to brag about but, there is plenty of parking for trucks. The food is hot but everything is from a box, except the homemade peach pie I had which was made with fresh peaches as well. The service is great. The place isn't anything fancy but if your in the area you can find some traditional meals.

Speak about old school...but driving from NYC to Pittsburgh, it seemed like a good stop for a bathroom/breakfast break. I was not wrong. I prefer to support as local a place as possible during long drives, but that is not always easy. This is an easy on, easy off place. The egg sandwiches hit the spot and the bathrooms were clean. Service was friendly and we were on our way. What more do you want?

So so. I love diners and had high hopes for this one. Food was below average, meatloaf was bland, my Dr. would have frowned at the amount of salt it needed. Decor was original but who cares, it's about the food. I might have made it 3 stars but the men's room reeked of sewer gases and the waitress had a death rattle cough around the food.

I have to admit I was a bit skeeved out and perhaps a bit freaked out by the time warp that seemed to exist. We had breakfast there. The coffee was weak and the breakfast was below average. We like an old diner atmosphere but this felt more like a tired old restaurant that served bad breakfast. We wouldn't stop again if we were passing through and needed to make a roadside stop.

True diner atmosphere. Good food. Service alittle slow but it was busy. Truck parking. Prices were good.

You will find standard quality diner food at Trainer's, safe and dependable. When I'm on a road trip and traveling through the American countryside, that's all I'm asking for. Don't vary to far from the diner 3B's; BLT's, Breakfast food and Burgers. The service here was very good and both the folks and the clientele were friendly.

Every Christmas when I go with my boyfriend to his grandmother's in Schellsburg, PA, we stop by the Midway Diner. It is right off of westbound route 78 and it is so much better than going to a fast food rest stop. I've only had grilled cheese and soup and it was good, but the main reason why we love to stop here, is the cakes! Big huge cakes! When we last stopped by we just went in and got like four pieces of cake. Go for the coconut, it is the best. Next time I'll get a burger and try some real food. Staff is also very nice here.
