Interesting concept. You order at the door from a menu on the wall, like fast food. But then you are seated, they bring the food to you, and it acts like a normal restaurant. Salad/soup bar is genuinely impressive. The steak was pretty mediocre. Standard low-end chain steak. But the service was super friendly and the overall experience was pleasant.

I tell you what, it all started at the front with an extremely helpful manager. The guy was clear and concise when we weren't sure of the way to order and he was very friendly as well. Our food was out so quick I couldn't believe it! I had a steak sandwich that was pretty good. But the salad bar totally rocked!! The only real issue we had was that the mozzarella sticks seemed undercooked. The manager asked my lady how our experience was and she told him things were good and even the mozzarella sticks had good flavor. When she told him about the sticks, he came to our table a little later and announced he took them off the check!! How nice!? He said he didn't want us to have a bad experience he said. Totally didn't have to do that and we told him! All of the staff were friendly and the food was good. Highly recommended!

The local atmosphere was s o welcoming and refreshing after a long day on the road, and really added to the charm of this joint. Although the food wasn't as good as I had hoped, the buffet was included in my meal and filled up any void from my main course.

I stopped here on my 400 mile drive to NJ as I wanted something better than PA Turnpike exit fare. I have to say I was quite impressed. I had grilled salmon topped with crab stuffing and broccoli as my side, which was delicious and healthy. I took full advantage of the all you can eat salad bar by devouring a cup of chicken noodle soup, two plates of salad, and dessert that also included healthy options. All of the food was very satisfying. I also liked the atmosphere which was very family oriented and low key. To me it was quite refreshing from the pretentiousness of upper scale venues as well as even the annoyance in other well known chains in city settings. My server, Kristine, was very friendly and accommodating. So while this place is by no means extravagant as it does not try to be, it easily earns 5 stars for me given the tasty food I had and overall one of the more pleasant dining experiences I have had.

I visited Hoss's with my Daddy and step-mom when I came to visit in December 2012. I live on my own in California and had to make an emergency trip home. This is one of the restaurants I wanted to visit. Even after having not eaten here for 10 years, I still knew what to expect and still knew that I would love it. Unfortunately the closest thing we have to a Hoss's out in California is a Sizzler and I'm not a big fan. The service here was impeccable and it brought back many wonderful memories. The food was delicious (I had some sort of fish, but don't remember what), and the salad bar is always a favorite. I didn't get to come back during my visit in July of this year, but hopefully we'll make it there next time!

I have been going to Hoss's in Bedford since they opened in the 1980's. I always look forward to the garlic bread. I just ate here this past Thursday and, as usual, it was very nice. The waitress was attentive and on point. She deserved her gratuity. The chicken noodle soup was made with large, fat noodles and was very tasty. I ordered the Maryland crab cake with seasonal vegetables(which was sauteed zucchini). The crab cake appears to be made when it is ordered. The zucchini was not complocated. It was sauteed with salt and pepper and had an al dente texture. Very tasty and definitely not overcooked. Entree, salad bar, drink and all was only $18. I recently visited a Bedford burger establishment and paid $24 for a fraction of the food. Btw, try the burgers at Hoss's. They are the best in town. I have been to this Hoss's literally dozens of times over the years and have never had any complaints with the food, service, wait time, etc. When in the Bedford area, Hoss's is one of the best choices. It is preferred by many locals and the chances are you will not leave disappointed.

Straight up, this is the best buffet place around! Hoss's Steak & Sea House has lots of options for steak and seafood. I personally like the scallops, and steak here. The salad bar is a great surprise also. I would definitely give it a try if you are in the area.

What a nice surprise! The food is good and the service is great. I went with some hungry folks and we were all satisfied with our meals. It's a much better choice than the Bedford Diner and Denny's next door. I don't eat steak and mine was cooked well but not dry and marinated well. The salad bar is excellent. I made a real salad with spinach and all kinda of vegetable choices. Then there are like 6 soups to choose from and a dessert bar. I had no room for the dessert bar. The waitress Cathy was friendly, fast and efficient. We will definitely be back again. :)

It was fine. We were traveling from out of state and needed a place to eat between destinations. This restaurant is a lot like a Ponderosa. You have to order right when you get in, before you're seated. All we wanted to do was rest a minute but felt rushed. Staff was very nice. Salad/soup/bread/dessert bar was just satisfactory. Rolls were very good. I got the crabcake dinner. Overall it was good but too salty. Other diners in our party said their food was, surprisingly good. Portions were not overly large. Be careful of add on items adding on to your price. Sometimes you don't catch that there is an extra charge for most things.

Buyer beware here. If you're looking for a real steakhouse, this isn't it. This place is more of a Ponderosa or a Golden Corral. If that is your sort of thing, you may like this place. It's not my thing, so we walked out.

An interesting place. It's not even on the Longhorn level, or Ryans, but if you weren't expecting anything fancy, it's fine. In its context, I think it deserves four stars, which makes me the only reviewer to date giving it more than three. Really, it's a pretty good place for a completely unpretentious dinner. They take your order at the front door like a Ryans, there's no liquor license (quelle tragédie! But my liver was happy.), and much of the food is served via a rather messy "salad bar". Unlike a Ryans, you pay at the table like a regular restaurant. Appearance wise, it's pretty utilitarian, with lots of signage here and there promoting various specials etc. A bit noisy due to the conjunction of unforgiving acoustics, clanking of dishes and some argumentative kids. Free wireless! I had an eight ounce filet mignon, which was perfectly prepared and betrayed no evidence of chemical tenderizing. One side was included, so I ordered a sweet potato and an extra side of steamed broccoli. Being a pig, I also added grilled shrimp for a few bucks more. What the heck. The person taking the order warned me apologetically the broccoli would be "crunchy", but it turned out to be correctly steamed al dente, and not boiled to mush as is commonly the case at restaurants. The sweet potato was wonderful but very petite. I wonder where they get such small sweet potatoes. I didn't have anything from the salad bar. There was a person who kept coming by to bring me drinks and who surprised me very much by asking if I'd like coffee to go with my dessert. I declined, not having a dessert and fearing evening doses of caffeine, but that was a nice touch. Check ran to $26 for steak, shrimp, soda, and one extra side. With tip $32.

Hoss's was very good quality for this genre of restaurants. It was very clean, and the service was very good. The server was also very helpful. We went on a Tuesday, so the items on the kids menu were 2 dollars off. Normally, the kids items are 4-6 dollars, so that made the kids meals pretty cheap. The kids liked their hamburgers. The buffalo chicken salad was ok, but you could get soup and salad for 99 cents. The soup was very good. There were many different kinds of soup. The salad bar was clean and there was a good variety of toppings and dressings. The soft serve ice cream was not good. Most of the toppings were not the name brand.

When we come to Bedford for the Fall Foliage Festival this is our go to spot for dinner. The salad bar is awesome. Very fresh ingredients that are constantly being replenished, as well as very clean and neat. If something accidentally gets spilled you can bet there is an employee right there in no time at all to clean it up. Sometimes I get a small steak and baked potato, which also includes the salad bar. Service is fast and friendly. We always look forward to eating here when we are in town. During our last visit we noticed a bus unloading in the parking lot and were a little leery because we thought we would have a long wait to be seated. Upon entering there were about 50 people ahead of us, but despite the line, we were seated in less than 10 minutes. I guess being right off the turnpike they are prepared for bus loads and know how to keep things moving and accommodate their guests in timely manner.

Hoss's is a good old standby in an area where there are not, quite frankly, any standout dining options. You'll likely only be Yelping this if you're starving when you exit the PA Turnpike at Bedford, but I'd suggest skipping the Pizza Hut and Subway and giving Hoss's a try. This is a small chain in the southwestern Pennsylvania area that's been open for over 25 years. When you come in you can either order an entree ($6-12 for steaks, seafood, burgers, etc. that all come with the salad bar) or you can order the salad bar. I've always loved the Hoss's salad bar because it is massive and it's pretty hard not to find something that you like. In addition to having tons of different stuff to put on your lettuce (old school iceberg with carrots and purple cabbage, or baby spinach) they usually have a few soups, a fresh bread stand, and the ever-important dessert bar. And yes, there is a soft-serve machine...with toppings! There is absolutely nothing fancy or refined about this place, but it's decent food at a decent price and the people are always very lovely who work here. I'm pretty sure it's in a part of the country where you still have the smoking or non-smoking option, so everything about being here, from the vinyl booths, to the brown and orange carpets, to the stain glass light fixtures and the stale smoke smell just screams 80's. It instantly makes me feel 7 years old and on summer vacation to visit my grandparents when I walk into this place. But if you are in the area and need a very respectable meal, definitely stop by. It has always been a great place to take big groups and young children because there is always something that everyone can eat.

Decent food at a decent price. That's pretty much it. When you're on the road for a long period of time and you don't want to do fast food, this is a great option.

The best place for lunch near the PA Turnpike. You order when you go in, then are seated. Most go for the soup and salad, but they also have nice beef and seafood items available. Plenty of items on the salad bar, with five kinds of soup. And all of it is fresh. Beef and seafood entrees are also quite good, I like the rib eye. Much better than the average steak house like this. Good wait staff, too.

I decided to give Hoss's a try as I continue my hunt for a restaurant in Bedford. Hoss's is a basic chain type restaurant with a couple main differences. The first thing that jumped out at me was that you order your meal and drink at the reception desk prior to being seated. It was kind of strange and caught me off guard. I was hoping to get a chance to review the menu for more than 30 seconds before I ordered. Since Hoss's bills itself as a steakhouse I went with the KC Strip. (Basically a NY Strip w/the Bone still in) The steak came out quickly, was cooked properly was well spiced. As chains go it was probably a step below Outback and Longhorn but about on par with a LoneStar or Texas Roadhouse. The meals at Hoss's also come with a soup, salad and dessert bar. The salad bar was was OK. It was fresh, well stocked and clean. The service was good and the waitress was friendly. In conclusion if you're driving the PA Turnpike and looking for a quick bite Hoss's is a good option. You could definitely do far worse.

I can't speak to the steaks, despite its name as a "steak & sea house," but the salad bar is very good--the main reason my family and I would frequent the restaurant in my younger days and what brings me back when I'm in town. Spectacular or gourmet it's not, but Hoss's serves up some good sandwich offerings, a well-stocked and fresh salad bar, and generally good soup options. The soup & salad bar with an added sandwich at lunch is $7-8 as I recall, and it's a good deal, even if you only get one salad during the visit. The menus are on the wall as you walk in, and you order at the register before you are seated (similar to Ponderosa Steakhouse or Golden Corral if you're familiar with those chains). A neat part of the experience is the decor--each Hoss's decorates with a lot of old tools, farming equipment, local vintage photos, and other historic items, similar to a Cracker Barrel, but more localized in scope. Friday is clam chowder day on the soup list, and I'm a big fan of their chowder, so that's always the day I prefer to go. The fried whitefish fillet sandwich is ENORMOUS, and the burgers are respectable. I get one of the burgers and the salad bar for a late lunch and I'm a happy camper.

We love this Hoss's Steak & Sea restaurant for a quick, delicious, inexpensive, yet mostly healthy lunch or dinner option while traveling on the PA Turnpike (I-76). It's located just off the PA Turnpike at the Bedford Exit # 146. The salad bar is always fresh and plentiful. They offer several homemade soups each day, fresh breads, make your own nachos, fruits, and desserts, in addition to the usual salad bar offerings. My kids love the salad bar because they can graze on little bites of many different things and feel very important while choosing items for their meal. The soups are always good and hot. It's a great deal, and you can load up on your veggies while traveling. It definitely beats anything that they're offering at those awful PA Turnpike Service Plazas. I'm giving them 3 stars overall, but it would be 4 stars based on a quick, healthy, and fresh option close to a Turnpike exit. Keep up the good work Hoss's, and thanks for always taking care of us!

Not a lot to choose from in Bedford. So, ate at Hoss's and later wished I hadn't. I didn't get sick or anything, but the food was sub-par. Bread was terrible, salad bar was bad, soups were okay, nacho bar (not exactly sure what it was, actually) was unfortunate. The only good thing was the soft serve ice cream station.
