My girlfriend grew up here so we end up in Altoona several times a year. Just tried this place after being told about it for a while. Service was friendly and hospitable. Food was spot on. This place doesn't claim to be pretentious, it is what it is. My girlfriend had the chicken parmesan and I had the veal oscar. Both were great and exactly what you would hope each dish would taste like. My veal oscar had an abundance of crabmeat and the sauce was spot on. Love the 7 spice potatoes as well. Wine selection is very nice. A must visit for good Italian.

A hidden gem! We always call for a reservation, Always had great service and treated as we were the only ones in the building!!! You will feel the sensation of walking back in time. Make sure to have an after diner drink in the small bar, where you can check out the photo's and go back in time !

So this is one of Altoona's gems. I have always really enjoyed my food here. Don't expect the trendy atmosphere you'd get in a metro area, but it's really very good food, especially for Central PA. The service is a bit slow, but I actually think that's by design. I'm inclined to believe reservations are a good idea.

Food is very good...service not so good. Waited 1 hour for salads...two hours for entrees. Were told there was a large party that created issue. Many tables empty that night. Very frustrating. Reservations at 7:00...did not leave till 10:00. Sent email to owners letting them know our issue and received no response back.

Wow, this is an incredible Italian Restaurant for little Altoona. The wine selection is incredible and they have a few vintage wines from the mid 90's. The restaurant is owned my the Finelli family and the chef is one of the sons. Try the desserts, they are made by Mrs. Finelli herself and are quite exquisite. This is one restaurant you definitely want to visit if you're in the Altoona area.

Loved Finelli's! It was our first time there and we will return. Tessa, our server, was excellent! We were treated warmly by the owner and welcomed as if we had always been customers. The artichoke app was wonderful and the seafood chowder was the best we've ever had! Many selections on the menu and I doubt you can go wrong with any of them. Worth going out of your way!!

I have been here numerous times over the past few years and the food has always been great. I have tried just about everything on the menu and I have never had a bad meal. The atmosphere is elegant and cozy and I would highly recommend Finelli, for an enjoyable evening on the town. Whatever you have, don't skip on the desert!

My husband and I have been to Finelli's twice now. Yes - we are beginning to make a habit of driving down from State College. The food is THAT good. Seriously, you cannot go wrong with just about anything on the menu. I have lived all over the country, and I can honestly say that Central PA is VERY lucky to have a place like Finelli's tucked away in Altoona. I'm looking forward to taking my parents here when they visit us from out west later in the year. Definitely save room for one of Mrs. Finelli's delicious desserts! You will certainly not regret it. You don't find family-owned places like this much any more. Do yourself a favor and check it out. It may be 40 miles away, but we'll be back. I promise you.

I stopped by for dinner on May 4, 2015. I ordered the linguine with clams. Remember asking the waitress if it was clams or a sauce because I don't care for the sauce. After waiting well over an hour and having finished my salad over 30 until my meal arrived I was starting to question if my main course would ever arrive. The service was subpar and the linguine with a clam sauce which I didn't want looked like someone got sick on my plate. You can rest assure that I will not return to dine here.

I wanted to eat at an authentic and classy Italian Restaurant, so I found Finelli's. This place rocks! I had the Crab Supreme... amazing! It included a side of Gnocchi... incredible! Can't wait to come back. Abbondanza!

Worth the trip. We had eggplant parm and the sampler coupled with a bottle of Malbec. Flavor and presentation hey A's. Service was great as well. Family run atmosphere adds to the charm. Certainly didn't leave hungry. Only complaint was price of bottle of Malbec..$35 for an OK wine, would have been happier if it was $29. Next time will have glass of house or another drink.

Finellis Italian Villa has the best food in Blair County and beyond. Their service is impeccable, courteous, and efficient. The food is prepared with perfection and care. The desserts are the best finish to the meal. Mrs Finelli does a great job on them. Everyone should try this venue for their special dates

My wife and I have dined here on three occasions. The most recent being on our 50th wedding anniversary. Each time we have been pleased by not only the fine food and service but the warm hospitality of the owners. A definite must stop in Altoona.

"We had a big occasion to celebrate here, and sadly, we ended up regretting our choice with Finelli's. I will list all of the bad experiences in the order in which they occurred: 1) Our party called ahead and gave them the billing information as to not haggle for the check later-- to which they said they required a 20% tip for the server. In the end, our server did not deserve the 20% gratuity they tacked onto our bill. 2) When we arrived, we were not presented with menus or a wine list until 10 minutes after sitting down and only after we requested them. 3) It took at least 15 minutes for bread to arrive, even though the table had been pre-set with butter dishes. 4) When asked about the wine, the server was not knowledgeable about the menu, a lot of the wines listed on the wine menu were our of stock, and when asked to recommend another in our price range, the server was not prepared to do so, and had to go check with the chef. 5) The server did not inform us of the 86'd menu items for the night, so when ordered, she told us they were out of the item. 6) The server talked up the Cesar salads, and highly recommended them, however did not mention the fact that they were a $5.00 charge (when you could get a garden salad with your meal for free). 7) The dining room was freezing. 8) We waited 35 minutes for our starter salads. 9) We waited 1 hour 20 minutes for our entrees. 10) One of our party's dishes had charred grilled chicken. When he told the waitress it was burned, her reply was "Well, we grill it." in a snide tone. He had tasted grilled chicken before, and knew it wasn't supposed to taste burned. 11) The special dish for the night was said to come with white asparagus. When the asparagus came out, it appeared to be from a can. If not-- insanely overcooked. It was mush, and inedible. Needless to say, the experience was horrific and I will never go back again.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
