Best wings in the Lehigh Valley, as far as I'm concerned... and lots of sauce options to go with them. Other food is also very good... my favorites are the Classic Rueben sandwich, the Fish and Chips and the Irish Potato soup. Great selection of draft beers to go with the food make this one of my favorite stops.

We finally have a local! I don't know why we avoided this place for so long when we live so close. We had a nice time here for someone's birthday a few years ago. Stopped in for drinks not long after that and did not have a good time (neither one of us remember why) and basically cut them and never returned. So, tired of our regular spots one Wednesday but not wanting to drop $125 on dinner/drinks, we decided to give them another shot. I'm super glad we did. Really friendly and charming bartenders and very good - surprisingly good - food. I haven't tried the wings everyone raves about but the corned beef is amazing and so far everything we've tried we've liked a lot. Everything has been fresh, home made, tasty and very reasonably priced. Yes it's a bit of a 'dive bar' and run down but that's really part of it's charm. Not going to lie though, they could do with a LITTLE bit of rehab (the broken blinds on the window are just sad and the bathroom looks like something out of a 1970's park rest area from my days at CYO day camp.) They get awfully crowded on some nights, but now we know why!

Since moving to West End Allentown we've been wanting to try some of the neighborhood joints. Wings are often out go to menu item so we had to give it a try. I ordered the sweet and spicy and he ordered the hot and sweaty (i think)Wings. I liked the size of the wings I won't be surprised if I'm alone here but I don't like jumbo wings. These wings were a perfect non steroidal looking wing. We got and even share of flats and drumsticks. The sauce was on point. I just felt like they were a bit overcooked and dry. We also paid full price $9 for the wings which is unlike us. We normally try to catch a wing night. So that's probably another reason for this review. They were not worth my $9. The mozzarella sticks were battered not breaded which was a plus for my guy. Service was great. Place is tiny. It was empty at 8pm on Saturday, seemed strange. I'm confident I will not return but I'd say definitely worth shot.

I got say I'm glad I give this place another chance, the food was really good, they must replaced the chef or something; the waitress was nice, the wings was the boom, I got the pull pork sandwich and was very good, the fries to die for..
Great local bar with amazing food and good specials (wings and pork sandwhiches are amazing). The night chef is also awesome Bc he does different specials that aren't on the menu. Overall a lot of the people there seemed to be regulars, but if you want to go to a low key place and grab a beer and food, this is a great option.

Of all the bars on the West End, this is probably my favorite. Really impressive beer selection, all your standard drinks with some pretty cool specialty cocktails and shots. The food menu is pretty big for a bar and they have lots of wing sauces. They also do a great trivia night on Wednesdays! The cherry on top of this is the free popcorn to keep you thirsty. Always friendly servers, too.

This Irish Pub is right around the corner from my dwelling. Every point on my scale is hit and with authority! Food: Delicious. Bartenders: Friendly and Prompt. Atmosphere: Inviting. Selection of beer: Enormous! The owner Chris is super friendly. All the bartenders and servers are professional and enjoyable to banter with, most of all Brit and Tatum. The chef makes the best fish and chips PERIOD. The UK has nothing on his fish and chips. Its funny how the one Yelper gave the place one star based on the fact that she was carded and told to leave....ummmm its a bar for 21 and over! Duh! The server did his job.

If you're looking to try some awesome craft beers, this is a good place to go. The bartenders are friendly, and the beer list is extensive. The food, and ambiance of the place? No thanks, I'll pass. It took 15 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge that we were even there the last time my friend and I went, to be told "I'll be right with you". We would have just gone to the bar, but it was packed. I can see why. At least at the bar you can get served. Another 5 minutes or so later, our beer order was taken and promptly delivered. 15 minutes later, we placed our order with another server (who was sincerely nice). Our waitress came over and rudely stated, "So you placed your order with another server". She tried to strike up conversation, but at this point my friend and I were well past agitated. I ordered the pretzels with crab on them. I ended up scraping the crap (crab) off and dipping the pretzels in honey mustard that my friend had gotten with her salad (she said that was really good... the crispy chicken salad, maybe?). We tipped (both) our servers- one considerably more than the other, and left. I don't know if I'll be back. If I am, I'll find that male server or go to the bar.

This place was okay. They had a decent selection of beers on tap but the food is "meh". I ordered "English Fish & Chips" and what they brought me was actually English Fish & Crisps. Potato chips do not belong on the same plate as fish. I'm not sure if they just don't know that the English call their french fries "chips" or if they were out of fries and hoped I wouldn't notice. To be fair, I should have mentioned it to the bartender when she brought me my food(I'm paranoid no matter where I go that the cook is going to spit in my food). Instead I ate it and the fish was pretty good for fish you can find in Allentown.

Callaghan's is my spot. You know, it hardly even needs reviewing. People know about it, anyway. But here goes: It's the best neighborhood place on the West End (and maybe everywhere?). It feels like I've been coming here for years. The beer selection is good. I could do without some of the tap selections, but I can say that everywhere. There are always at least 10 good beers on tap, though. And with 30 bottled selections, there's something to drink for everyone. Some of these switch regularly, too, so variety is good. The regular food menu is really good. Burgers are fantastic, sandwiches are great (Reubens especially), and the salads are a hidden gem. I mean, people don't come to bars for salads, but they should. The blackened chicken and buffalo salads are delicious. And the wings, sheesh. I don't know how many sauces there are, but it's over 20, and there's at least one not on the menu that you can ask for. I prefer the jerk and sweet n' spicy, myself. I'm going to take a new paragraph to talk about weekend food specials. Seriously, eat them. The regular menu is good, but the specials are great. Burgers stuffed with mushrooms and onions and other deliciousness, paninis with chipotle raspberry sauce, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, and other just plain fantastic dishes. I wish they were on the menu all the time, but I realize this is probably not practical. Still sad about it. What really makes Callaghan's, though, is just the people and atmosphere. The bartenders are great (I'd namedrop them here but they'll yell at me) and the crowd is just right. It's not full of college kids, though there are some. It's not full of oldheads, though there are some. It's a really eclectic mix, and overall just friendly. No complaints, it's my best neighborhood bar.

Tried 5 times until I found the place open. Closed Sundays, closed for special parties, closed for per St Pattys Day BS. Service is awful. Take a canteen because you can die of thirst at the bar.

This place SUCKS ASS. I was really excited to get clams. It was clam Tuesday. My boyfriend & I went inside. we sat down and the guy came with the menus and he card us. So they couldn't serve us. An Irish pub on the West Side. Parking is on the street, as there is no parking lot. The place is rather small and the decor is quite dated and tired. The food is average bar food. They do have an extensive beer list, as well as a few specialty bar drinks. There are even a couple specialty shots available (one that looked appealing enough to be a possible cocktail). Live entertainment is offered from time to time. As a bar, it more of an A+ neighborhood type place, but as a restaurant it leans towards a C- place. If with friends and you want some place quiet to go for drinks, check it out.

I would not go out of my way to eat here -- the food was fairly non-descript, and the atmosphere kind of loud. I guess that is what we should have expected from an "ale house," and the prices were reasonable. The French Dip sandwich was good, and my easy-to-please husband liked his salad with blackened chicken. I ordered the Irish potato soup on the advice of the waiter -- it was bland and starchy. As a pub, or drinking place, where a festive atmosphere and good drinks are the goal, this place is probably a good choice. The space is pleasant, with bar in the center, and booths around the outside. As I walked in, I noticed the entry seemed a bit dirty.

Although not a huge space, it has the feel of a neighborhood bar, without the strange old guy in the corner. The wings are delicious (I'm a huge fan of the sweet hot or whatever they call it) and the beer selection is good but not huge. Bartenders are really friendly. I'm not one to go to a bar alone, but if I do this is the bar I would go too. Keep an eye out for their specials as they are worth it (especially wing night and clam night)

Horrible service. Wasn't that busy, but the two bartenders did not circle the bar for twenty minutes. When we tried to order a pitcher there were no more left. Never been to a bar that ran out of pitchers, but seems everyone ahead of us got on. Also only on waitress walking around on a Saturday. Based on service alone will not be back.

I stopped by here last night with my mom. I'd had a rough day and the only thing I wanted out of life was a shot of Jameson, a Stella, and a snack. So we sit at the bar, get our shots and beers, then take a look at the menu. I was psyched to see that they had a French Dip on the menu and mom was pleased to see that she could get a Reuben. My French Dip was super tasty. I asked them to bring out some mayo and honey mustard for the big thick cut fries. The honey mustard was also really good. My sandwich totally kicked ass, and the swiss cheese on it had such a clean yummy undertone. Psyched. My mom really enjoyed her Reuben. I can't tell you if it was good since I don't eat those, but she really seemed like she liked it. The bartenders were friendly, the crowd seemed cool. We went out front for a postprandial smoke and were talking about how tasty the snacks were. While we were out there, we ran into the owner. He was very friendly and seemed genuinely interested in whether we were enjoying the food, drinks, and service. All in all, it's a good bar with tasty snacks and a friendly staff. Also, the prices are pretty reasonable. We each had a shot and a Stella, the two sandwiches, and a total of about 5 or 6 mixed drinks. Our bill was about 55 dollars which was pretty killer as far as I'm concerned.

My fiancé and I decided to go out for a fish fry last Friday, and it left much to be desired. The whole house was packed, I felt so bad for the staff, they were clearly overworked and the service started to reflect that. It took over ten minutes for drinks, close to a half an hour for our appetizer(which I'll get into) and an hour in we finally got our fish frys. We got the pretzel bites with crab dip which was absolutely deplorable. People actually like this dish? Our fish frys were overdone, and tarter sauce clearly was pre-made. And they charged us for extra. Really? Won't be returning, unfortunately.
