Tamales were amazing. Almond chicken was to die for. Blue corn tortillas on the tacos was a nice touch.

The Mexican food here was unique. We had a tamale as an appetizer for $2.95. It was delicious! I had beef filled empanadas which had the lightest shells. Almost like a Mexican phyllo shell. my husband had enchiladas topped with Mole sauce. They served these dishes with sauces on the side that ranged from mild to habanero!! It was unique to me that one of the sauces was a guacamole sauce in a squeeze bottle. Everything was very good and plated creatively. I also enjoyed a cilantro margarita. What really made this place special was how excited they were about their food and service. It was a happy environment. It is unusual to not be served chips and salsa, but i did not miss them at all.

Stopped by on our way to Seaside. Honestly, my girl and I weren't expecting much. However, they delivered! The service and speed of delivery was a bit iffy, but the food made up for that. It was downright delicious. We are currently in route to go get more. Very cute little restaurant and delicious as well. Glad we found it!

Guacamole was chunky, fresh and delicious, served with fresh-made, hot tortilla chips. We found Tacos el Catrin on yelp and trip advisor, and it was definitely worth the the 20 minute drive from Seaside. This place would be GOLD in Hawthorne or NW Portland! Warm and engaging server, chef came to ask us how dinner was; overlook the strip mall surround, its darling inside.

I was getting my haircut next door and I decided to stop here for lunch afterwards. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and seated. The menu is simple and I was surprised on how inexpensive everything was. Although, not everything on the menu is served with sides. I ordered a tamale and two chicken tacos and they arrived very quickly. Everything tasted so fresh and I was presented with an array of different salsas/sauces. For the price and the quality of the taste, Tacos El Catrin can not be beat. I can't wait to come here again and try some more of their delicious food!

A bit of a meh experience. I got a torta, which was fine but just fine. I asked for no onions and I got onions. Not just some onions, but a lot of onions. My girlfriend got a burrito, which was a little rice heavy. Nothing was outstanding about the experience. It's fine if you are just looking for a quick bite.

Delicious al pastor burrito & pollo tacos. We stopped on the way out of Seaside & were very pleased! Very nice and prompt service, too! We will stop again on our way through Astoria.

Only two days open and our first meal / experience was beyond awesome! We have been driving by daily waiting for the paper to come down from the windows. Are they open?...Damn. Open?...Double Damn...Wait...ummm...YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss Ginger's Diner and Jim & Ginger, but they deserve a peaceful retirement. It was so sad to see a burned-out tweaker take it over and destroy it. How the hell did she fund? Probably on my tax dollars. (sigh) Tacos El Catrin is beautifully decorated in a Mexican but classy contemporary theme. Enrique (Co-Owner) did an amazing job. (Peek at the hair salon next door to be blown away by his skills there too). Catrin and his wife are an amazing team. Order / Pay at the counter and be seated on the handmade tables and chairs. It is like being on the Mexican Coast. This Sunday was crowded. Our arrival took the last table (a good sign after two days of being open). Our food was brought out quickly. All hands were on deck and it was relaxed and under control for the full house. Hands down the best tamales that I have ever had!! Big, flavourful, well presented, and sooooooooooo good. Rice is to die for as well. Tacos were very good as well. In my opinion, a bit pricey but they do come with a small cup of awesome beans. Tamale prices were cheap compared to other places and of superior quality. We split 4 tamales, 2 tacos, rice and beans and walked out for just over $23. Filled to the brim with Mexican goodness. No Tex-Mex crap here. This is the real deal. Mexican sodas, fountain drinks, horchata, etc. No iced Tea (but I will pester them). So stuffed!!! Be sure to check out Emiliano's Hair Studio next door. (review will follow after I take my mum there). Beautifully decorated and offering hair services, high end Italian sexy shoes, handbags, jewelry, and much more!! Emiliano and Enrique are great lads and deserve every bit of success. I have watched both of them earn their stripes in Seaside and it is nice to have them as neighbours here.

It may not be what are used to. The food Michoacan style Mexican food. Very good. Good service. Staff very attentive. I will be going back. We ordered a tamale. Excellent. Fluffy and savory. The Enchiladas are served with chicken on the side and potatoes and sweet potatoes, home made guajillo chile sauce. One of our friends ordered the Chilaquiles. They were Mmm. Delicious. Burritos are good in size and satisfying. You can't go wrong. Enjoy if you go.

Very nicely done interior. The bathroom was spotless. Our server was very friendly and suggested the Almond Chicken with Green Rice special. I took her advice and my daughter ordered the Chicken Enchiladas. They were both delicious. The pickled vegetables that came with the enchiladas were an excellent surprise. The chicken leg served on the side as well as the enchiladas were as good as I've ever had. The special was amazing with a delicious chipotle sauce. The chef came out to check on us and the service was excellent. We finished with Chocolate Flan which was delicious. This place reminds me of the food from Cabo San Lucas, authentic and delicious. This will be a regular spot while in town.

Have been watching this site and waiting for it to open to see if it was better than the place in downtown Warrenton (not difficult, imho). Well, it is fantastic! The ingredients are VERY high quality and Enrique (Kiki) is eager to please. When he said they had flautas (a corn tortilla rolled around a filling and then deep fried) with the usual beef or chicken, I asked if he ever made cheese flautas. I explained that I used to get them decades ago at a restaurant in Berkeley and that I understood they could be difficult because the melted cheese would tend to leak out while they're frying. While Enrique had never made them, he was up to the challenge and said he had the perfect cheese, a hard cheese that should be able to withstand the deep frying. He made some and they were PERFECT! Their presentation was also special--it included guacamole and pickled veggies. I'd never had pickled potatoes before, and they and the carrot sticks were delicious and so obviously fresh. My dining companion had the tamales and they also were the highest quality. Then we tried Enrique's special Choco Kiki flan for dessert and it also was fantastic! Enrique explained that his flan had more cream cheese than eggs and, for us, that was a really good thing. It tasted like a very flavorful cheesecake, like a Snickers bar w/out the peanuts--it was layers of chocolate and plain flan drizzled with caramel sauce and topped with whipped cream that was obviously made in store, not from a can. Enrique explained that they make their own chorizo in-house so it's not greasy, and that their overall focus is on being innovative with quality ingredients and authentic Michoacan components (e.g., the pickled--vinaigre--veggies) when they fit. We will def be back to try more menu items, such as the mole and the fish tacos, and I'll DEF have the cheese flautas again!! So glad to see this quality Mexican restaurant in Warrenton.

We stopped in after reading reviews and have to agree 5 stars all the way, the best alpastor and carnitas in the county. It is nice to finally have a good Mexican restaurant in the Astoria area

Don't be deceived by the strip mall exterior. This is a very special place. Warm and inviting interior, pleasant sound level and comfortable seating. The staff is very welcoming, but not overwhelming. I had a tamale and a chicken taco with the fresh salsa condiments; only $7.00 ala carte. All very nicely done. Looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu. I highly recommend this hidden gem.

  • Aldo G.

Tacos a bit on the expensive side at $3.50 each. I recommend going for the full entrees where you do get a good bang for your buck. A nice all around dining experience with attentive service. If you love the tastes of Mexico, you will not go wrong. Horchata (to drink) was excelente, and wife's empanadas primo bueno.

  • Michelle J.

You will love it. This place makes me feel as though I've walked into someone's home, instead of a restaurant. Our sever (and all of the staff) was extremely friendly and kind. They had 4+ specials that day witch was a little confusing. But I think they might still be trying to perfect there menu. Now to get to the food. I had a tamale and beef nachos. The tamale was DELICIOUS and only $2.50. Our meal came out with four different kinds of house made salsa and I had a lot of fun deciding witch one I liked best( there all fantastic) but I'm a verde girl. The nachos were loaded with meat pico and tons of great quality cheese and they make there own chips. My bf was also very happy with his enchilada. In my opinion, best Hispanic food on the coast. I will be back.

The tamale was AWESOme!!! The tacos were killer and with no cheese, perfect! Sauces house made. I'm bringing the family when they get here. oh and a sucker for horchata, and these dudes make it from Scratch!

So far this is my new favorite Mexican restaurant on the coast. The owner cares about his food an even puts an artistic chef flair on the visual presentation. We will definitely be back!

  • Bethany W.

I drive by this place frequently, but had never stopped in until recently, and I was missing out! I had the Almond Chicken and it was amazing! The sauce was just the right amount of spicy to add flavor and the corn tortillas were fresh and warm, and the bacon was absolutely fantastic. My friend had the carne asada burrito, and I can't report on how it was myself, as he consumed before I could snag a taste, but he was thoroughly impressed. Like other reviewers have said, this is more authentic, less TexMex, which our area was lacking. The staff is also very attentive and seem to have a passion for the restaurant and its culinary creations.

In seven words: my food had a hair in it. In two words: never again. If you want authentic Mexican food, go to the taco truck at the Astoria rotary. If you want authentic Mexican hair, check out Tacos El Catrin.

  • Kristy M.

Tasty and accommodating. My husband loved the salsa choices that came on the side of his meal. The freshly made corn tortillas came out streaming in the foil. I hate onion, so they offered me plain tomato instead of pico and plain avocado instead of guacamole. So nice! We'd consider this fine dining Mexican, although they didn't care that we were in casual attire. We would return.

  • Dana G.

Only the most flavorful Mexican cuisine I've ever had! Not a large menu but an exceedingly well executed array of favorites. The food is not covered with cheesy slop that hides the entrees... Instead the chef has created wonderful, flavorful sauces that accentuate the entrees. The Pollo a la crema is incredible as is the almond chicken. Located in a strip mall and tucked away a bit you would never suspect the finest Mexican food on the coast is hiding in plain sight!

  • Sally M.

Great food, service, and atmosphere. Located in a strip mall, it looks like a hole-in-the-wall from the outside. But the interior is pretty, warm, and cozy with only half a dozen or so small tables. The two page menu didn't have the typical cheap combo plates you often see at Mexican restaurants. Menu, including several specialities, included tamales, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, menudo, mole, chilaquiles, tortilla soup, nachos, and ceviche. Numerous types of meat to choose from. Was a little concerned seeing mozzerella cheese on the menu, but it tasted fine in my dinner. No free chips and salsa, but they do bring you four big squeeze bottles of sauces with your meal. Two red, two green, and they each have their own distinct flavors...all very good and fresh tasting! I had a burrito with asada ($9.95) and was happy to see that it was big and grilled. Nice balance of meat, cheese, rice, and beans, with a drizzle of sour cream. Very filling and flavorful and I even noticed that the tortilla was better than normal. It came with a side of lettuce/veggies that I could have done without. Easily the best Mexican food I've had so far on the North Oregon Coast. Service was attentive. Drinks, food, and check came quickly and dishes cleared quickly. Looking forward to coming back! I visited on a Tuesday evening and there was a steady stream of customers.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
