I have stopped in here a bunch of times over the years while working in the area or passing through. I have to admit this place has the best milkshakes of anyplace between Portland and Pendleton (and up through Tri-Cities), and I am fairly certain I have tried them all. If I only rated on milkshakes this place would get 5 stars. They make their own hot fudge, which is extra delicious in a shake. I am always disappointed in the price if the food however. The food just shouldn't cost as much as it does for what you get. It is made to order, and a definite step up from any of the fast food chains, but everything (except the ice cream treats) is a couple dollars more than it should be. For sure stop here for a milkshake, but be prepared to empty your wallet if you get any food.

Great local place to get your burger on! Love the staff, and always enjoy chatting them up. It's popular so be prepared for a wait. It's worth it. The burgers are always great, the fries always hot, and the shakes are to delicious.

Best Malt Shakes this side of town!....I'm not kidding!!! It has become like our tradition every single time we drive down or up to the PacWest to stop at this local Mom & Pop shop. The people here are really cool, friendly and always happy to serve with a smile. My favorite at G&J's is their Chocolate Malt Shake LARGE! I'm telling you this delicious treat is a decadent treat from first to the last sip...It is thick, sweet, chocolatey and everything good about a malt shake, an absolute treat especially after many hours of driving. Their Hamburgers are pretty darn good as well, satisfying and flavorful enough to fulfill the hunger pangs of the hungry long distance driver ha ha! I highly recommend stopping by if you happen to pass by this very low-key town in Umatilla OR, Consistently good food... all these years. A real thumbs up!

Stopped here on a Monday at 11:30 a.m. Service was friendly and we received our food quickly. We all ordered cheeseburgers and shakes. Our standard cheeseburgers were OK, but nothing to write home about. My son ordered a double bacon cheeseburger and the bacon on it was good. Shakes and a malt were OK. Lots of flavors to choose from but nothing spectacular.

This place is NOTHING fancy... in the least little bit. When we walk in there are your typical high school kids working the counter. Looking up at the menu I start to get overwhelmed... This thing was MASSIVE!!! I think they had every greasy spoon item you could think of. As my eyes danced back and forth across the menu. I'm thinking... OMG!!! What do I choose? TOO-MANY-OPTIONS!!! After giving it LOTS of thought... I decided to go with the bacon cheese burger. To me... this is the King of burgers. My boyfriend has a little harder time deciding... at this point I thought he was going to order EVERYTHING on the menu. He finally settled with their biggest burger, a corndog and a chili cheese dog. Ok, I must admit... I talked him into getting the chili cheese dog because I wanted to try it. And believe me... this was only a SUPER small fraction of what they offered on the menu. We were given a number... and since our food was made to order... It took a little while for it to come out... not SUPER long... but I wouldn't necessarily call it "fast food" either. The burger joint it's self reminded me of an OLD Dairy Queen. I think that may have been what it was before it became G & J Dairy Freeze. The booths were old and were showing a lot of wear. Thank goodness the seats were not cloth... they would have been GROSS. The walls are covered with interesting "art" and old cartoons. So, it help to pass the time while waiting on our meal. When our meal was done... they shouted out our number and my boyfriend went to retrieve it. When he put the tray down on the table I was like... OH MY GAWD!!! THAT is A LOT of food. We'll NEVER finish all of that. Famous last words... right? I unwrapped my burger and took a bite. WOW!!! That was delish! Then to the fries... they were your typical run of the mill french fries... nothing fancy... but not bad. They also offered us fry sauce. Being from Texas... Fry sauce is something new to us. So, I said... HECK YEAH! I'll try it. What is it? Come to find out... it's pretty much just mayo and ketchup. Pretty good stuff. I think I should market it and sell it back in Texas. =) Anyway... my burger tasted to be made with fresh beef... the veggies were also pretty fresh. You can tell that they don't bake the buns there... but it was pretty fresh as well. All and all a good solid burger. I also tried the chili cheese dog. I must admit after eating almost 1/2 of my burger I wasn't really that hungry... but since the chili cheese dog was KIND OF my idea... I thought I better give it a try. I was tasty as well. The chili had a great flavor... and the dog was cooked just right. It was also a pretty good size. After that I told my boyfriend that I just HAD to try the corndog. GLAD I did. I was YUMMY as well. We did the best that we could finishing our meals... but needless to say... we didn't quite make it. We have a tendency to let our eyes overload our stomach. I must also admit that this was one of the better meals we've had since moving to this area... along with one of the least expensive. We WILL be making a trip back to Umatilla to have burgers again.

As someone who has wandered the Columbia Basin for many years, this is one of the great spots for good burgers on the road (Big Jim's in The Dalles is another). G and J is located about half a mile west of the I-82 bridge in Umatilla. It has the usual array of burgers, including one advertised to be "as big as your head". I thought the basic cheeseburger was just fine. Everything is cooked to order. The menu is incredibly extensive - everything from chili cheeseburgers to an oyster sandwich (did not try - eating oysters in Umatilla??) Part of the name is Dairy Freeze. Excellent shakes in a variety of flavors (None oyster). It has outdoor picnic table seating and booths inside.

I have stopped in here many times over the years. I often have work in the Tri-Cities. We travel to Montana for vacation. We stopped last Sunday for a quick burger on our way to Montana. It was a mistake. The burgers were mediocre and a bit cold. The big problem was the 45 minute wait. I assume the crew was having a bad day. I am sure I will try them again, but only if I have plenty of time. Stopped in again and had the same problem. Cold burger. They do good shakes. We will likely stop again, but only for a milkshake, not any food. Too bad, they used to serve a very good burger.

Crappiest place ever. Not worth the money at all. It used to be great. But now a person not from this country runs and has screwed it all up. Wtf is fry saice. I can mix mayo and ketchup on my own.

I think its a bit too much I got two bacon burger without cheese and it was almost 19 bucks they give you a lot of fries but the burger is small for the price. The burger was good but the price killed it.. I rather stick to mcd's
