Awful...the worst service, what does it say when the staff acts like they don't want to be there? Located in Tillamook, cheese ring-a-bell? My order was inedible, so I leave over ninety-five percent of my government cheese infested dish, and they don't bother to ask "was everything okay?" How do you mess up salsa, it's not possible, but La Mexicana managed.

A family owned restaurant with great food and really great portions. I eat here pretty often. I usually order the Grande, because I there are so many great options that this fatty foodie just can't make up her mind! With the Grande I get three of my favorite things! Sadly I can't eat three of my favorite things, so it's a doggie bag for me, or a treat for the husband. When you walk inside, you'll pass a table or two and then make your way to 'the lobby' Bit of a crowded place in the midst of a hallway. Hang out there for a sec and then you'll be taken to a table. There's no seating while you wait, so if you have a member of your group that can't stand a couple of minutes, it's a good idea to have them hang out in the car while you wait. Before long a waitress/waiter will take you to your table and ask for your drink order, there are a ton of drinking options! The food is always piping hot! It's absolutely fantastic, not fantastic for Tillamook, but this is just plain good Mexican food. If you want Guacamole or Sour Cream, you will be charged extra, but you can ask your waitress to bring A LOT and she will, otherwise it'll be a teaspoon or so of each. There are great desert options available including both Flan and fried ice cream. The bathroom is generally clean, there's one stall in the ladies so there can be a wait. It is in dire need of a remodel. All that space, and you're staring at the wall..

Food was just ok. I ordered the shrimp fajitas. Not as flavorable or as spicy as I would have liked. Almost 100% onions, a few green and red peppers but not enough! The place was very busy, Tillamook is a small town. Staff is very friendly.

Very good food. The Relleno Burrito was very tasty and was the cheese and onion enchiladas. Recommended!

So I've always had a great experience here. The staff is always friendly and their good is pretty damn good. The prices are right on, and you can't beat the service. The fajitas ROCK!!! ;o)

Been coming here for nearly ten years and always look forward to enchiladas at La Mexicana. Consistent quality and great service. Yes, the salsa is on the thin side, but it's just a different style than some are used to (this is not a chain!). They serve chips the minute you sit down, with the aforementioned salsa and a little bowl of refried beans. Ahhh. Outstanding enchiladas, huge drink menu, great chile rellenos. What more could you need? Only drawback is that the exterior of the building is no longer that nauseating pink pepto-bismol color that I had grown to love. Still, it's what's inside that counts and what's inside is good-to-great mexican food and awesome service!

We are visiting the area. Decided on Mexican food for lunch. La Mexicana was the best Mexican food. The wait staff was great! We will come back every time we're in Tillamook!

I lived in Tillamook a few years ago. I would almost consider moving back JUST for the food at La Mexicana. Having grown up in San Diego, I have found that Mexican food in Oregon isn't...exactly. This is absolutely the closest I've come in Oregon! If you're near Tillamook, it's definitely worth going!

We go to Tillamook at least once a year. Three years ago we discovered La Mexicana. The atmosphere is cozy and the servers are always friendly. Since I have a sweet tooth I will start my review with dessert. I always order Flan no matter what Mexican restaurant I'm at. La Mexicana's Flan is incredibly good (and I grew up in southern California. I could eat Mexican food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of my life and never get tired of it.). It was thick and creamy. I wish I'd ordered my own instead of splitting it with my husband. :) For dinner I ordered a combo plate with three items: Chicken Enchilada, Chile Relleno, and Tamale. Tamales and Chilie Rellenos are my favorites. Everything was delicious and flavorful. The Tamale was the best I've ever had. It was moist (not dry like 99% of the Tamales I've had in most restaurants) and big. I can't speak for the others who have given negative reviews for this restaurant. I'm sorry they had a bad experience. Fortunately, for me, I have never had anything but great food and friendly service. I can't wait to go back.

We ordered the extra spicy salsa when the chips arrived, and it was very thin, and watery. None of the thick, pico de gallo that one would expect for dipping chips. Chile relleno was ok, enchilada had a raw, uncooked tortilla flavor to it, and I was unable to eat it. Tostada was pretty good, but the chile Colorado was bland, and tough. Overall not a great experience. The chile Colorado lunch special at around 8 bucks turned out to be a 10.99 item on our bill. Very Oregon/Americanized version of Mexican food. Why is it so difficult to find good Mexican food on the coast of Oregon? I travel extensively in the Southwest, and find amazing food, simply prepared, with few ingredients, and incredible flavors. It's not that difficult to prepare great food. You don't have to smother everything with melted cheese, and call it Mexican.

Went here for lunch yesterday and the food wasn't amazing, but decent. I got the carne asada burrito and the thing was huge!!! Ate half and took half home...The meat was not seasoned as much and I added hot sauce, but the rice & beans were on point...The chips needed salt added to it as it was not salted...I guess it would be okay if you dipped it in the salsa or bean dip but I like a lil flavor to my chips...All in all, not a bad spot to have lunch...Wasn't amazing, but wasn't bad...Just okay...

I am giving this restaurant 3 stars primarily because of the location. Tillamook is not the culinary capital of the world, let alone Oregon. So my expectations are fairly low. First the good news. We ordered a pitcher of Margaritas for the 4 of us. While not the best Margaritas we have ever had, it was pretty good. Definitely drinkable. The food was not as good. My son and I both ordered Pollo ala Diablo. We love spicy food and the waiter said this was spicy. Yes, it was spicy but we would of liked a little more kick, but the problem was with the sauce. the red sauce had the distinctive taste of canned tomato paste. Not very authentic Mexican. but it was edible. My wife and daughter both had enchiladas. they reported them as being ok. If I was in a major metropolis, this restaurant would get no better than 2 stars, but I'll give them an extra one for trying hard and beng in Tillamook.

I have read all the reviews for La Mexicana and I have to say that the people who are complaining about it NOT being TRUE mexican food must think they live in mexico. We live in the USA and of course their food would have an American spin on a traditional mexican meal. Now with that said I live in Yakima, WA....where every time you turn the corner you have an authentic Mexican Restaurant and in my opinion La Mexicana in Tillamook rates right up there with the best of them. I had the Carne Asada burrito and the meat was seasoned perfectly. The portions are big and you do not walk away hungry. I always judge a mexican restaurant by their salsa and La Mexicana had a great salsa that was served along with a bean dip that was ok. Service was a little slow at first but got better. Overall I would go back again to La Mexicana

Cute place. Service was a little slow to start but then picked up. Loved getting the beans with the chips and salsa, nice touch. The ceviche tostada was the bomb!! It was under $5 and was huge. I had a cup of tortilla soup and was definitely full. My boyfriend had a taco salad and said it was just ok. Chicken was kind of bland no seasoning really. Not bad for Tillamook.

My favorite Mexican restaurants are the ones with lots of choices, ie, an entire menu page dedicated to taco/enchilada/tostada/chile relleno combos. Who would think that such details are so important? and yet, my heart starts to race when I get to choose between the 3 taco plate and the 2 tacos, 1 enchilada plate. It's the small things in life, for sure. Anyway. The food is good and the portions are big. My boyfriend says the food reminds him of the Mexican restaurants in Southern California; it reminds me of the Mexican restaurants in Philadelphia. I don't know whether that makes this restaurant more authentic than its Oregon counterparts (in the case of SC, I would say yes), but it certainly makes it tastier.

I have to say that I've been to this restaurant several times now, for lunch and for dinner, and the service is better than I've experienced elsewhere in Tillamook. For some reason, service is not a priority in this little town. But at La Mexicana, the staff are super friendly, and service is quick and accurate! The food is good, with generous portions. Not sure why the other reviewers aren't so keen on it, since we've had nothing but good food here. The salsa is delicious. I had the Chile Colorado yesterday, and it was good and meaty, with a zesty Colorado sauce, that wasn't overly diminished in it's spiciness, as many Amerexican restaurants do. Finally, we are able to feed our family of 5 for under $50.00, which means it makes our short list, for sure.

Food is okay. Nothing to write home about. Portion is bit small especially for a Mexican restaurant.

Forgive me if I am wrong here. I've been to many Mexican Restaurant, but this has to be the worst experience ever. Food wise. They say that it is the best authentic Mexican. What is authentic about serving frozen ceviche shrimp. Bland bland beans and watered down salsa to start the meal. Oh let me go back to the ceviche. It stated "SEAFOOD CEVICHE" what we got was bay shrimp salad, with lots of onion and jalapeno, but yet bland and yes frozen shrimp, I mean still icy inside. Another thing was that I ordered the most expensive item on the menu to really have the full experience and really enjoy dinning out. Bad Bad Bad all the way. Why pay for this kinda of food. Go to the Wagon cart on 101 about a mile away and have the best tacos and burrito.

LaMexicana.... if you live in Tillamook or have ever driven out Highway 6 then you have seen or know of this place located on third street across from the court house and Kephardt's Flooring. The building is also a historical building and is painted peach and pink so you can't miss it not only because of the location but also because they serve great traditional Mexican/American food. First I must say this restaurant is at the top of their game they dress well, speak well, serve well, and cook well. I can ask the waiter or waitress a question and not get a blank look back, I know that may sound ignorant but it's a real issue; if you don't understand me how can I communicate what I want, I could care less about all the political mumbo jumbo. After receiving a generous portion of warm chips, house salsa, and warm bean dip, I ordered the carnitas lunch plate for a little over $6, and it was great I also added a cup of tortilla soup for $1.90 which was out of this world, hands down best tortilla soup I have had in a long time, and with a bottomless drink my lunch came to $10 but I took home a rather large to go box and it filled me up for dinner. The lunches average $7.00 with dinners more around $10-$11 they have a decent drink and desert menu and if there is a knock on this place from the locals its that their drinks are a little on the weak side but that's it, they even have a frequent diner card buy 10 entrees get the 11th one free and be sure to spot a local on the birthday wall or get your own picture up there. Final Grade A- great value, great food, great service, and a great family that is truly a part of Tillamook and personifies this blend of cultures taking place.

Allow me to preface this review by stating the obvious- it is my first review. You may have read one of the many reviews written by my wife, Catherine F. She rose quickly through the ranks of Yelp to reach Elite status, for which I am very proud of her. Forgive me for not having her mastery of the written word; however, you may see her influence in my writing style (it's funny how things like that happen when you grow very close to someone). Now for the review. What can I say about this restaurant that the name doesn't already say. As the previous review stated, this is solid Americanized Mexican food but average at best. I had the carne asada burrito. According to La Calaca Comelona, it is not a true mexican burrito, but it is what I've come to expect, and love, as a burrito. A huge flour tortilla stuffed with grilled meat of some kind, beans and rice, possibly cheese, sour cream and or guacamole. There's is stuffed with meat and cheese, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, sour cream and guacamole and served with rice and refried beans. The sides were average to bland. The meat was slightly over-grilled for my tastes (liking my steak rare to medium-rare). The guacamole was alright but pales in comparison to my wife's. The margarita I had was way too saccharine and tasted like it was made with cheap mix. On the plus size, I mean plus side, the portions are huge...so they got that going for them. You get more of the average food for the reasonable price. My margarita and burrito came to $20 with tip. My wife would be proud of me, not just for finally writing a review on Yelp but for taking half of the burrito home for lunch tomorrow. Also on the plus side, the service was decent and the decor was not atrocious. All in all, I would say the experience was meh to average. I would go again for a large burrito but I'm sure my self-proclaimed foodie wife would be less than thrilled with experience. Perhaps we've been spoiled by our favorite mexican-influenced home away from home- Trebol. I hope you find this review either entertaining or informative if not both.

Great chip, bean dip, tortilla soup has lots of flavor, I think too many tortilla's though, say light on the tortillas

Completely solid tex-mex food. If you're looking for Americanized Mexican food that will taste good with no surprises, good or bad, this is the place. There is only one other Mexican restaurant in town, which I haven't been to yet, but want to soon. The other alternative(s) would be the taco trucks, which I admit to having a thing for, but if you're looking for a sit-down Mexican meal in Tillamook, this is the place for you.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
