Seriously, if there was ever a real "Cheers" in the Metzger area, this would be it. The food is very decent, and the drinks are generally VERY strong and flow aplenty. Video poker to lose my money, and a giant plate of nachos to drown my sorrows in. The sandwiches are yummy, and they're all served with original Lay's potato chip, the best in the world, I think. There's no shortage of regulars and laughs at Toby's. See you there!

If you're near the Washington Square or you're in Tigard. This place has had the same bartender for a while. Good selection of plain old craft and then the domestics---sometimes they throw out a free pizza for everyone to enjoy. Couple large screens to watch Nascar, Sports, the Ducks....Really a lot of regulars. Owner is there often....Good spot. Nothing too special, but reliable and not full of creeps. Just real down to earth people, drink, and food.

I'm not exactly a neighborhood pub connoisseur, but I might visit one for bar food specials and something like coffee or a soft drink to wash the food down. Yeah, I know bars don't like that, since the profit is in the alcohol. However, I came to learn of Toby's through periodically needing to be in its general area and, of course, being hungry. Toby's sits in the Metzger area of Tigard, west of all the craziness along commercial 99-W and on Hall Blvd., where it makes a bend and is closer to the Greenburg and Washington Square areas. It sits in an anonymous strip mall and has parking, though not an abundance of it. I would say Toby's is sort of like "Pete's Lair West." I know both for their tacos and, even though the Taco Thursday's tacos are better at Pete's Lair in Jennings Lodge/Milwaukie because those are the focal point of that evening, Toby's is better on other dimensions. I was able to surmise that this is a down-home neighborhood bar and, while there are occasionally foreboding individuals outside the door, possibly savoring nicotine, I've never seen it get to "them thar fightin' words" as I have at Pete's Lair. I believe most of the patrons are regulars, but they don't make a new face feel out of place. And some of them may even chat you up. Here's what makes me a "fan." I happened to be in the area on a Super Bowl Sunday in which the Seahawks were playing. The Toby's folks surprisingly had a spread for the Super Bowl party, as well as a cake frosted in the Seahawks colors. It was a darn good spread, with calories coming at you from every direction. The bartenders were very cool given how hectic it was and didn't even bother collecting for my Sprite, so I handed the server a few dollars. That's the sort of stuff you remember and would get you to come back when in the area and looking for pub grub and something to wash it down with. Too bad the Seahawks lost that Sunday. Watch your speed along Hall Blvd. in this area. The traffic is not intended to move as briskly as it does on 99-W. Sure, if in the area, and I'm not looking for Italian, Greek, donuts, or buffet fare, I'd drop in on Toby's.

This was my first visit... It was a hot Friday and I never do this on a work day... But it was my birthday the day before and it was time for a beer (Little hair of the dog, don't YA know) Very much a locals hangout! A Very nice bartender knew EVERYBODY (Except me) and what they were drinking before they asked! It is a very casual sports bar atmosphere... Great place to watch the game. They are on the Alaska Air - Dine Air program (for now), so you can even get extra miles for having a cold one. I did not eat, but the food I saw come out of the kitchen looked good. The bartender said the pizza was the best, but you have to take her word for it! I'll be back on game day! Enjoy MORRY

Happy Hour Review: My FIRST time here...well maybe not. It USED to be a video store...I still have the ID card. And I need a HAPPY, HAPPY HOUR. And I immediately recognize the porno section back by the pool tables in the back. Bartender says it still is. I'm on the rebound and looking for a COLD, CHEAP beer...fast, It's hot, I've been stuck in traffic and I just paid $ 5.75 for a pint at the VERY Thirsty Lion...and we've agreed we should see other bars. Sure they have those fancy craft brews, but I feel like a "sure thing" (guys..... you know what I mean). I check out the regulars at the bar....mostly Pabst cans....OK. "Pint o Pabst". I get mine in a high class GLASS. A full pint. And it's $ 1.75 !!! I tell my $ 5.75 beer story to the bartender...she wants my receipt to show her boss. I have another shot on goal within minutes...then they bring out free happy hour pizza. AND they have "Toby" T shirts for sale (Nephew's name)....I already like this neighborhood bar. I think I'm in for 3 beers, four slices of pizza for $ 5.25.... well, plus $ 10 for the t shirt. UNFORTUNATELY they also have video poker. ANd after my third beer (here) plus one at TL....my judgement is not quite up to my game. My money clip was thinner, but I did NOT get a DUII on the way home. I'm a winner. Will visit again. Ambiance? You kiddin? Neighborhood regulars bar. YOU will be the new guy....but not for long. Lots of TVs with the Olympics on. Edited to add: I see the picture with the "JELLO SHOTS= $ 1" sign. It's true !! And having purchased those for some ladies before...THAT IS A DEAL !

Based on three visits to Toby's, we have had good service once and the other two times, no service. I agree with an earlier post that it appears to be a "cheers" type of place, however unless you're a regular, you have to beg for service.

I like a good dive bar, and I like hanging out where the locals hang out when I travel. Having said that this place serves neither of those. To call it a dive bar does the good dive bars of the country a disservice. It is in a small strip mall store front, it stinks, it has no ambiance. The "locals" are a bunch of fat middle aged men that look at you you when you walk in because you're not one of them. That part I can handle, but they don't even talk to each other, they just sit there being fat and old and keeping to themselves. One word: BORING! Don't waste your time.

I have been to place three times. Every time I go they are very friendly and provide good service. The food is good pub food and they have a full bar and a decent beer selection. Widmer pints are $3.50 all day every day. If you are looking for a "Cheers" type of place, you might like this place. Give it a try, I did and I will go back.

This is a great neighborhood sports bar. Food is good and reasonably priced. Best of all is the owner, Toby, a world-class guy with a big heart who sets a warm and welcoming tone in the place.
