The Anzac Tea Parlour

A mandatory stop for me any time I go through the Gorge. On a nice day, their porch is exactly what you need. The food is authentic and distinct, and the tea selection is unparalleled. But more than anything else, it's just a nice, shady spot to sit down for a bit.
Always great service and the owners are great to visit with and make you feel at home.
The Anzac Tea Parlour is a definite bright spot in our little town. The decor is charming and warm, and the food is very good. I have tried several different things on the menu, but love to have the Sampler Plate, which includes wonderful chicken almond sandwiches, tiny cucumber sandwiches, mini-quiches, veggie roll, Anzac cookie, a chocolate dipped strawberry and fruit. Many teas to choose from also. It is a popular lunch spot with a definite Australian flare. I recommend it highly.

Best espresso/coffee in town! They serve Stumptown coffee and know how to do it right. Great food in a wonderful historic setting. perfect lunch place or event venue.
Delicious, cheap lunch options. Try the turkey, dill & cream cheese bagel sandwich. The cinnamon scone is good, too. Only con is the Cheetos were 3 months expired. Overhead them say they're raising their prices. Not a huge deal though considering our bill for a two-person lunch is always under $13.
Average place. Nothing special about the coffee....have a good feeling it will be closed soon

Ate here a couple weeks ago. I'm in my third trimester of my pregnancy and my mom and I went here after I had an ultrasound to catch up. First the all you can eat pancakes This is my number one craving and they were fluffy and perfect. We both enjoyed our meals except my mom and I don't like fried country potatos. Why can't they just be cooked in a pan? My mom got the avocado eggs Benedict or something like that. Holy yum Will be back. The service was great. Our waitress was attentive, sweet but not pushy.
Thank you yep! You led us here and oh did you make my kids super happy! The service was like really? Salt of the earth is what my old man would say. Just the way she explained the four syrups that they make in house, you can really tell they are proud of the food they put out! And it shows! These are some of the best pancakes and crepes we have ever had. We recommend the cinnamon roll french toast! Way good! Wish this place was in my town!
Great place to stop for breakfast. Lots of types of pancakes, four flavors of house made syrup. Some of the best sausage and bacon I've had too!

Really good food, very fresh. Amazing wait staff. Very clean. It's a bit on the expensive side. And they are conservative on their portion sizes. But I eat here a couple times a month.
Amazing little place! Service was small town and very genuine! The menu was simple and very delicious!
The food is excellent. The new owners are doing a wonderful job. Their chopped salad is one of my favorites.

I have to agree with Jeremy C. When we first walked in, the waitress seemed scared, like we were going to yell at her. It was an odd welcome. Perhaps she was overwhelmed. She was the ONLY waitress, for about 6 tables. Or, was it cultural? Still it was odd...but it got better from there. I ordered E-1..the Vermicelli bowl with Marinated Pork and Shrimp and two Pork Egg Rolls. It was fabulous!! $9 for a generous portion. The pork and shrimp were succulent. We had started with the Spring Rolls and a Bubble Tea. We loved them too. The bubble tea was different than any I've had before though. We chose Mango. It was more of a milkshake, frozen. The Boba were delicious, but it didn't have the jelly in it. It was still really good. The waitress warmed up to us by the end of the meal, with some smiles, thank yous, and engagement. She was really sweet! We found this one on Yelp. Another win for Yelp reviewers! Thank you!!
Great choice after our long drive! The portions were big, flavorful, affordable, nice customer service, and the ambiance was relaxed and open. $9.00/pp
This place used to be an Italian restaurant, so the décor was a bit more on the Italian side instead of the traditional Vietnamese décor. I think I came a bit too early since there wasn't anyone around. No waiter, no staff, no nothing. VERY quiet inside. Almost a bit creepy. I checked the time to see when they opened. Yep, 11am. It was 11:10am I just stood there in the entrance thinking...what should I do next? Maybe I should walk around and make some noise? I figured, maybe if I jingle my keys someone will hear me? I waited some more in silence, finally, after a few more minutes, a guy came out and smiled, pointed to a table and told us to sit down. He was very nice, but didn't speak English very well. I can't speak Vietnamese either, so our communication skills were a little rough on both sides. He asked about drinks. I tried to order a bubbl tea drink, but he didn't understand what kind of drink I wanted. He just smiled, said," sorry I don't speak English well." I let it go. Who needs a drink anyway? I checked out the menu. Figured out what I wanted, pointed at the picture on the menu and smiled. It got the job done. I ordered the Bun GA Nuong ...marinated grilled chicken with vermicelli noodles. Within a 10 minutes, food was served. Nice big serving in a BIG bowl. Looked very good, however, it wasn't very hot. I'm not talking spicy, I'm talking about the temperature of the food. It wasn't even warm. More like room temp. Maybe it was supposed to a cold dish? I guess I expected something warm, especially the chicken. It tasted ok. Nothing to talk about. About 15 min. later, a lady comes out and she is asking how everything was and If I needed anything. I could tell she could speak English, so I figured, why not ask her for a drink. Bubbl tea, Mango. She understood and I finally got my tea. I must say, the drink was actually better than the meal. Again, Nice people, food is just...OK.

All filler no thriller. I came this evening with a party of 5 to grab a bite to eat before my friends made their trek to Southern California. I read the reviews a few days beforehand and thought this would be worth a try so I got my friends to meet here. We made our order and all decided to go with el pastor burritos. The food did not take long at all. Once we recieived our food I noticed all 3 of my Mexican friends thought it was unusual to have the burritos served with olives garnished over the burritos. Me being Chinese I didn't think much of it and digged in. My first few initial bites consisted a lot of rice and beans after a few bites in I finally get to some of the meat and didn't stand out for me. Not sure whether it was a lack of marinade or just not enough seasoning but it was fairly bland. After eating the burrito which consisted of mostly all rice and beans I was left disappointed by the quality of the food. Friends and I all agreed it was a lot filler and little to no meat at all. Overall service was pretty casual and the employees were fairly on point and followed up regularly. Ask me if I'd come again? Probably not at this point. Not because of the service, cause it was good. Not because of the price, cause it was fair for what they were serving. In the end it came down to the quality and portioning of the food overall. It's a pretty big let down when you receive a rice and bean burrito and a few pieces of meat that lacked flavor. I hope in the future you guys can resolve this issue.
Awesome food!!! We've had tacos here on Taco Tuesdays, enchiladas another time and taco salad once for lunch. (My favorite place for taco salad in The Dalles) The food has been fresh, hot and flavorful each time. The chips and salsa are delicious and fresh every time. The dining room is not as nice as some restaurants but there are tables and booths and very genuinely friendly service, family run. Whether ordering in or to go service has always been fast. Beware the crowds on Tuesdays, the secret's out!
Chips and salsa are excellent. Not the best tacos I've had but good. Service is excellent

Super fast and fresh. Salad rolls are small which is nice so it won't fill you before the entree. I got the mango paradise, which was too much mango. That's my fault though, it is called paradise. The freshness and quality makes me want to return for some other dishes.
We were driving through. The food was ok. We had little to no service. I bet if you lived in The Dalles this place would seem amazing as it is probably the only Thai place in town. It's ok. I'd go back.
I live in an area with a ton of Thai restaurants but was really blown away by Montira's while visiting The Dalles. Definitely recommend the pumpkin curry, coconut ice cream and tapioca (which is served warm and slightly salty :)

Starbucks

Not all Starbucks are created equally. Yes - the coffee is pretty much the same at each one, you can find one on almost every street corner in the city, etc. It's the staff they hire, the experience created that makes a person coming back for more. I am from out of town and I left my computer charger there by accident. I panicked! I use my computer for business all day, most days. I called and the manager answered. She let me know they had it and would ship it back to me if I called and setup shipment details and payment with a nearby UPS store. My charger arrived the next day. My experience could have been horrible. Instead, it was excellent. Thank you Starbucks in The Dalles!
This Starbucks is probably one of the worst ones I've been to! I usually love Starbucks but this one has got to get their drinks down! A lot of their frappes are bland with too much ice and not enough flavor. I really think the baristas need a better training on how to make all the drinks!! Other than that their service is great which is why I game them 2 stars instead of 1. I hate doing that but there are way better coffee stands around here that serves better coffee.
Finally!! An official Starbucks in The Dalles! Heart. Melted. So here is the skinny: this location just opened this month (March 2014) and it is super shiny and pretty. The most modern tables and shelves and decor. I really do love it in here and it makes me feel like I'm home in Portland. So if you love Starbucks.... This is as good as it gets. Even though it's new.... The baristas made me a flawless latte and had my breakfast sandwich to me in a jiff. These guys are gonna give the Dutch Bros down the road a little more competition. I know I'm sold!
